A General Description of Motor Yacht ARCADIA

This motor yacht ARCADIA is a 36 m 117 (ft) well proportioned aluminium vessel which was manufactured at Royal Huisman and designed by Tony Castro. Launched to celebration in the year of 2006 this boat’s interior design and decor proffers the distinction in the designing of Rhoades Young Ltd.

ARCADIA as a fine motor yacht which has been beautifully engineered, immaculately detailed and built to last a lifetime. Her fine detailing is encapsulated in an unobtrusive but elegant and compact superyacht.

The Shipyard Work & Naval Architecture with respect to Luxury Yacht ARCADIA

Tony Castro was the naval architect involved in the formal superyacht plans for ARCADIA. Her interior design was realised by Rhoades Young Ltd. Tony Castro is also associated with the yacht wider design collaboration for this boat. In 2006 she was formally launched with accolade in Vollenhove and post sea trials and final completion was thereafter delivered to the owner who commissioned her. Royal Huisman completed their new build motor yacht in the Netherlands. Her core hull was constructed with aluminium. The motor yacht main superstructure is made mostly using aluminium. The total length of the luxury yacht on deck is 31.15 (102.19 ft). With a width of 8.24 m / 27.04 ft ARCADIA has spacious internal space. A shallow draught of 2.99m (9.81ft) limits the number of ports she can enter, contingent on their particular depth at low tide.

M/Y ARCADIA Engineering & Performance:

Installed with twin CATERPILLAR diesel main engines, ARCADIA is able to attain a high speed of 14 knots. Coupled to the ARCADIA engines are twin screw propellers. She also has an efficient range of 6000 miles when motoring at her cruising speed of 10 knots. Her total HP is 1248 HP and her total Kilowatts are 918. Regarding thrusters she was built with Koopnautic. For stabalisers she was built with Koopnautic.

“We did not want to lose our identity, which is unlike anything else on the market,” he told Robb Report during a tour of the yacht. “The A96 has excellent divisions, large spaces and large volumes, which you won’t find with our competitors.”

The A96 mixes the lines, volume and open-plan layout of Arcadia’s Sherpa series with the speed, joystick maneuverability and service quality of the yard’s A range. The exterior was designed in-house, with interiors penned by Igor Lobanov (this was a first-time collaboration between the yard and designer). The A96’s top end is 24 knots. Besides speed, there’s a whopping 4,300 square feet of usable space, which is 30 percent more than other yachts in its class.

The term “floating resort” or “terrace on the sea” is often used to describe open-plan yacht designs. The Arcadia A96 lives up to those names, largely because of the 96-foot yacht’s 24-foot beam, which stretches even wider when the side platforms are folded down. It’s mated with twin balconies and sliding glass doors on the main deck that leave the aft end of the yacht fully open to the elements. The same design is repeated on the upper deck, with more sliding glass doors on both sides and aft that lead directly to the exterior deck. The low bulwarks and lateral walkways continue a sense of space.

The A96 is also equipped with the latest generation of electrically activated stabilizers to provide stability at anchor yet maintain a low environmental impact. Solar panels on the roof of the yacht generate 2000 kW of energy, which is enough to run the yacht in silent mode for up to nine hours.

For the interior, Lobanov was tasked with furnishing the space with natural and “eco-compatible” materials. He opted for soft, welcoming lines and tactile furnishings, including a sand-patterned bouclé carpet. The interior loose furniture is selected from Italian design houses united by calm colours, natural materials and a glossy finish.

Central to the wellbeing element is the guests’ onboard experience. Two separate stairways are used for owners and crew. Two pantries ease service on multiple decks so there is little overlap but the boat is more efficient. The four guest cabins on the lower deck—one VIP, one double, two twins—enjoy ensuite bathrooms that are positioned to provide a buffer between guests’ beds and the engine rooms.

The large sun deck is where guests gather for large alfresco meals and to watch sports on the supersized television screen. Cream linen curtains allow the breeze in but keep the sun out, while a separate sink and fridge give the owners the freedom to serve themselves should they wish.

Four Volvo Penta engines with IPS 1200 transmissions ensure a long-range, low-emissions comfort, not to mention that top speed of 24 knots and range of 600 nautical miles at 16 knots. At 10 knots, the A96 has a 2,000 nautical-mile range. It joins Arcadia’s A85, A105 and A115 models.

When the 36 metre explorer Arcadia completed her east-to-west transit of the Northwest Passage in September 2011, she was only the 159th vessel to do so in the 108 years since records began.

The ancient Greeks viewed Arcadia as a place that brought people to a state of contentment and happiness and it is without doubt that the client for this Tony Castro designed 36 m long range motor yacht was seeking this very same state of well being.

The expression "less is more" is perhaps used far too often but ARCADIA fits this vision perfectly. Since the launch of ATHENA, the world's largest private sailing yacht, many yachts currently being launched appear to be overshadowed in size, but many owners are looking for new yachts that are deliberately designed to be on a "human scale", able to visit the smaller, intimate ports and explore in areas that deliver personal satisfaction in total luxury. If yachts could meet the lofty ambitions of Haute Horlogerie, surely Huisman"s yachts would be a major brand in the upper echelons. This analogy is chosen carefully to illuminate the products and building ethos from the Royal Huisman Shipyard, where intricate detail and internal space management can create engineering excellence in a compact yacht, either sail or in the case of ARCADIA, a long range motor yacht. So think of ARCADIA as a fine chronometer, beautifully engineered, immaculately detailed and fabricated to last a lifetime. All this fine detailing encapsulated in an unobtrusive but elegant and compact envelope.

The owner of ARCADIA, an American East coast yachtsman, wanted to create his own tradition and engineer a cruising yacht where the main objectives did not include the need for size over function and utilisation. As an engineer, he came to the Huisman yard because he saw mirrored interests, where he could harness the build ethic of utilising and maximising usable spaces in sailing yachts to engineer a 36m (110ft) long range luxury motor yacht, with a surprising internal volume, that has the feel of a much larger vessel.

The owner"s choice to build in aluminium was driven by his experience with his last yacht of sixteen years. The benefits of aluminium are many, but principal benefits include a ballasted hull with a low centre of gravity - ARCADIA uses carbon fibre composites for the antenna mast to enhance this equation - a similar balance of a sailing yacht. Hull weight reduction enables more sophisticated hydrodynamics with (in the case of ARCADIA) a finer entry and more efficient stern sections. The results are improvements to fuel economy and extended range. Using aluminium allows the naval architect to fine-tune the hull form to give typically 10% better frictional resistance against a steel hull. With less wetted area as well, the more economically driven hull can achieve a 25% range improvement or put in another way, 17% more fuel efficiency, lowering operating costs. With the owner, planning to explore Polar Regions, aluminium is more flexible and impact-resistant and does not become brittle in extreme low temperatures, like steel. As proof of efficiency, ARCADIA can achieve 5000 nm at 10 knot cruising.

ARCADIA Yachts – Operating Since 2008

Like many great shipbuilding companies, Arcadia Yachts is based in Torre Annunziata, Naples, Italy.

The shipbuilding company is dedicated to deleting innovative yachts with a design approach that uniquely incorporates ethics and environmentalism into building their line of semi-custom composite yachts.

ARCADIA yachts history

The word Arcadia is used in classical literature and mythology to mean an idyllic land where people lived in perfect harmony with Nature.

In 2008, yachting industry executives founded Arcadia Yachts to follow an “Ecological Dream” in the yachting industry.

The group includes the president and owner, Ugo Pellegrino, and chief engineer and designer Francesco Guida. Arcadia’s vessels are designed to embody the rich cultural history of Italy, including luxury, style, beauty, and appreciation for the art, history, and culture of the renaissance.

This design brief has been used to create a line of yachts that incorporate all these elements into high-end yachts, focusing on ecological harmony. 

In 2009, Arcadia launched its first vessel, the 25.9-meter Arcadia 85 SOLAR (which is now called GOOD LIFE). The vessel was the embodiment of their philosophy. The ship featured an exterior design from Francesco Guida.

The vessel also has numerous solar panels to air recharging the yacht’s house batteries. The yacht also has a hybrid diesel/electric power and can run on an electric propulsion system that offers total silence up to 8 knots.

Arcadia 85 was presented at the Boot Düsseldorf 2010 show. Since then, Arcadia models have continued to embody a unique perspective in the yachting industry.

Arcadia models appeal to a wide international market of buyers and owners. Guida said in an interview, “I love the sea, and of course yacht owners love the sea, and whoever loves the sea doesn’t want to destroy it.”

Arcadia designs boats that prioritize comfort and environmentalism over speed from this notion. The yacht models from Arcadia show futuristic exteriors and expansive windows for owners to make the most of the calm and views while on the water. 

ARCADIA notable works

The Arcadia 85 was groundbreaking for the shipyard, and they went on the create another notable work in the yachting industry: the Arcadia 115. The first of this model to be launched was named the M’OCEAN, a 35m yacht released in 2012. 

The yacht has a blend of a futuristic exterior by Guida, which blends solar panels into her top side seamlessly. The interior of M’OCEAN is elegant and contemporary.

Arcadia has continued to innovate and showed off its SHERPA XL model in 2020, which took the values of the company and the artistry of excellent craftsmanship in the yachting world to a new level.
