Watch our pick of the most dramatic heavy weather videos
This first video of heavy weather sailing is our from our Storm Sailing Series with Skip Novak . It was probably the most ambitious project Yachting World has ever undertaken: to head for Cape Horn with high latitudes doyen Skip Novak to make a series on Storm Sailing Techniques . Here is one of our most popular videos, rounding Cape Horn in Storm Force 10 conditions…
Hallberg Rassy are known for being heavy, sturdy, seaworthy boats. This video shows Hallberg Rassy 48 Elysium in heavy weather off Cape Gris Nez, northern France in 2014. The yacht seems to be handling well, able to use a Raymarine lineair 7000 autopilot depsite the conditions.
This compilation is from the BT Global Challenge round the world race, a crewed race westabout the prevailing winds in one-design steel 72-footers. It took amateur crews upwind through the Southern Ocean from Cape Horn to New Zealand and from Australia to Cape Town. This footage shows some of the weather they experienced and what the crews endured – and watch out for some footage of the race leaders fighting it out under trysail during a severe storm in the Cook Strait in New Zealand.
Single-handed sailor Berthold Hinrichs sailing in Hinlopenstretet. It is the 150km long strait between Spitsbergen and Nordaustlandet in Svalbard, Norway and can be difficult to pass because of pack ice.
A fun compilation video of sailing in strong breeze including 2 wipeouts, 1 dismasting and 1 guy going for a swim…
Our last example comes from popular YouTube channel Sailing SV Delos , as the crew tackle a 50-knot gale on the crossing to Madagascar. Skip to 8:00 for the stormy stuff:

Gone with the Wynns
If you want a sailing YouTube channel that offers an unscripted tale of an eccentric couple who left their everyday life to become perpetual travelers and experience whirlwind adventures, you've come to the right place. Known as Gone with the Wynns, this sailing YouTube channel chronicles the adventures of prominent travel vloggers Jason and Nikki Wynn.
The couple started by chronicling their travel adventures by buying an RV and undertook an epic road trip in search of endless exploration across the country. They went around North America and even trekked around Alaska and admit that they'd have stayed there forever had it not for the fact that they suffer from what they term as incurable sedentary life phobia.
The couple then decided to sail around the world and have been on a sailing voyage of more than 10,000nm. The couple has always been inspired by their unparalleled desire to explore, grow, learn, and share their travel experiences. To them, sailing is far more surreal as it's almost akin to exploring the world as it was done in the 1400s.

But soon after graduating, this gorgeous couple founded a successful architectural design-consulting firm as a way of earning a living. A Look at the Various Types of Yachts
Yachts are a lifestyle of luxury and leisure that many individuals aspire to, as they can be used for relaxation and fun. There are numerous types of yachts to choose from depending on intended purpose, size, and budget. From the classic look of sailing yachts to the speed and power of motor yachts, each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.
- Sailing yachts come in various sizes, shapes, and design aesthetics. Depending on the particular need of the owner, there are daysailers, offshore cruisers, racing yachts, and performance cruisers that can be considered. With advancements in technology, sailing yachts have become more and more efficient, allowing for longer voyages at greater speeds. The major drawbacks are that sailing yachts require more crew and must be able to handle choppy waters for extended periods of time.
- Motor yachts offer more convenience and are often faster than sailing yachts. They are most commonly purchased for luxury cruises, as they often come with a variety of amenities, such as bars, hot tubs, and entertainment systems. Like sailing yachts, motor yachts come in various sizes and designs, ranging from smaller powerboats to full-size luxury vessels. The major downside to purchasing motor yachts is that they require more fuel which can be costly. Additionally, they do not stand up to choppy waters as well as sailing yachts.
When it comes to purchasing a yacht, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. It is important to research and consider the various types available to find the right fit. Both sailing and motor yachts are desirable options, depending on the individual's needs and budget. Taking the time to look into the various features of each kind of yacht can help buyers make the best decision for their particular needs.
Cruising the Seas Aboard a Yacht
Yachting is a luxurious way to explore the seas. A modern yacht is the perfect way to fuse the freedom of cruising the seas with the comfort and glamour of a luxury vessel in one. Although expensive, the enjoyment of traveling on a yacht is more than worth it for the lifestyle plus the waterside views that it gives.
Today, yachting has become more accessible than ever before. With a fraction of the cost of owning and maintaining a yacht, you can use a wide variety of luxurious services and amenities to suit your preferences. From top-of-the-line food to spectacular sightseeing and water sports activities, you can easily create the perfect yachting experience for yourself and your guests. Yachting also brings with it the unique added bonus of providing a more truly private and customizable experience, as compared to a cruise liner.
No matter what type of experience you are looking for, whether it's a romantic getaway or a family adventure, cruising through the seas aboard a yacht is a great way to make the most of it. The comfort of a home away from home and the exquisite luxury of the yacht will let you feel like royalty as you explore the beautiful sights of the oceans. Not only do you have the ability to view pristine seascapes, but you also have the opportunity to make new friends, as well as make your time aboard that much more enjoyable. So if you're ready to enjoy the adventures of the seas, look no further than a yacht charter. You won't be disappointed.

There is no doubt that the introduction of drones for onboard reporters in the last edition of the Volvo Ocean Race changed the viewing dynamic of the race forever. Suddenly you could follow the crews beyond the marina and spectator boats right out into the middle of the ocean.
Drones enabled us to capture never-before-seen aerial footage that moved audiences from spectators to feeling like members of the crew. To anyone who has ever flown a drone, we think you can appreciate the skill of flying from a boat on a heel like this, going that fast with that much water coming over the deck, onboard reporters we take our hat off to you.
Here we watch some of their most epic moments in what is, without doubt, one of the most impressive Sailing Videos we’ve ever come across on YouTube.
Impressive video of Vendee Globe Boats sailing around the Kerguelen Islands
With the incredible support of the French Navy and French television TF1, a team of two people spent forty days onboard a frigate helicopter carrier in order to shoot Vendee Globe boats rounding the Kerguelen Islands. Here we see this rare and epic sailing footage.
The best, most complete sailing app available. Cuts out the need to use lots of different apps. Incredibly easy to use. Modern navigational planning software as it should be. Not just a picture of a chart!!!

Video of Alex Thompson performing the most amazing skywalk
This video combines two of our favourite water sports - sailing and kitesurfing.
What if you kite surfed behind the Hugo Boss Vendee Globe boat, attached yourself to a wire and hoisted yourself up to twice the height of your mast before ripping the cord and floating back down on your kite?
We think even the most adrenaline-fuelled individuals would take their hats off to this particular stunt…
This video of a couple living on a self-sufficient sailboat for 10 years
Follow this extraordinary couple who have been living aboard their boat for ten years, sailing 83,000 nautical miles. Using wind and solar panels this couple, and their baby, can be off-grid for months at a time.
Some people may also know them as SV Delos. The couple knew nothing about sailing before going on to live on their boat full time.
Take the full video tour of the boat that lets them live a sustainable life on the sea or, if planning your own trip, check out our essential boat packing list .
This footage of a drunk sailor being pulled off a reef in the Caribbean!
A list of sailing videos wouldn’t be complete without at least one boat fail video and this one is a good reminder to ensure you have the right safety equipment on board !
After a night sail back to Grenada in the Caribbean , Sailing SV Delos find a drunk sailor who’s run his sailboat up on a reef with all his sails out and engine on motoring even further onto the reef! Sounds too crazy to be true? Take a look at this…
Watch the guys from BoatUS cover the five outboard maintenance jobs most people forget
We’ve covered important considerations for maintaining your boat before. In this video, Yamaha technician Sean Stahl of Annapolis Boat Sales explains to BoatUS Magazine's Lenny Rudow five outboard maintenance jobs that people forget about.
These include replacing the fuel-water separator filter, checking the timing belt for wear, checking engine and bracket zincs, checking trim tab zincs, and removing the prop to look for a fishing line behind the thrust washer.
Awesome Video of Sailing a Superboat Crossing the Atlantic in Record Time
To quote “A Great Big Story,” - “Even the most daunting world records are meant to be broken.”
And it was no easy feat. On July 22, 2016, Comanche—a custom-built, 100-foot racing yacht—set sail from New York to the southern tip of England. Precisely five days, 14 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds later, the Comanche’s crew shattered the world record, by more than a day.
This video has it all; excellent helming , speed, resilience, teamwork, and the bravery to sail through bad weather.
Brave the high seas as we set sail on one of the most amazing and inspiring journeys ever to take place on film.”
Watch Sailing Nandji prepare their yacht for its first ocean crossing!
We love watching the guys as Sailing Nandji and we are well aware of the importance of proper preparation . In this video Bonita goes up the mast for the first time to take measurements for a new headsail, Yosh gets handy with some fiberglass work and the crew gets creative in the sail loft.

10 of the best Youtube boat restorations
- Kass Schmitt
- August 1, 2020
Video blog reviewer Kass Schmitt shares 10 of her favourite Youtube boat restorations - as reviewed in the pages of Practical Boat Owner magazine
Boat restoration projects on Youtube never get old – for a start: the boats are often older than the people restoring them! But for anyone considering taking on a project, immersion in a few of the channels listed below may provide inspiration, techniques and help you avoid common pitfalls.
The video bloggers themselves will usually answer sensible questions, but do take the time to read through some of the comments below the line, as quite often even wiser heads prevail. Just be aware that your quick 15-minute video could easily turn into a three-hour read late into the night!
In no particular order of preference, here is a wide range of Youtube boat restorations that I have reviewed in my regular column in Practical Boat Owner magazine. Enjoy!
1. Tally Ho – Sampson Boat Co
In the lead up to lockdown, Leo Goolden and his small team at the Sampson Boat Company were making huge strides on the rebuild of the 1925 Fastnet Race winning yacht, Tally Ho , even if one of those strides was… in the wrong direction.
After fitting all the new deck beams and carlins they discover a good number are not actually white oak but a timber with the wicking characteristics of red oak.
Leo takes the sensible decision to redo them.
History of Tally Ho (RORC presentation / Ep.48(Pt1)
In Summer 2019, Leo gave a talk at the Royal Ocean Racing Club In London, which he kindly recorded and published on YouTube for the benefit of those of us who were not able to attend.
2. Sailing Yacht Kora
The number of channels inspired by Leo is also growing. There’s a buzz about 17-year-old Ashmole Faire-Ring’s channel Sailing Barge Growler , documenting his ambitious rebuild of a wooden sailing barge, but more to my taste is the channel Sailing Yacht Zora . Kinsale-based Rhys Walters is rebuilding a Koopmans (senior) designed steel blue water cruiser. The aim is to sail her to the Canaries, the Caribbean and beyond. She’s already sailing again and the focus is now on the interior fit out. With over 10,000 subscribers, I reckon this channel is going places.
3. Motor launch Gesida – Back Down On The Boat
Another Leo-inspired series that’s charmed me is Back Down on the Boat . Durham-based baker Paul Spooner is renovating Gesida , his ex-Admiralty wooden motor launch. We see him single-handedly reinstalling the reconditioned 750lb engine, a challenge for anyone, but even more impressive considering that Paul has ME and needs a wheelchair half the time. In addition, he muses on the benefits of boat work on his mental health. I’m sure many can relate when he says that it’s more than a hobby, it provides an escape from the trials of life and motivation to persevere when things get hard.
4. Westerly Centaur Lagertha – Sailing LAGERTHA
A refrain I frequently hear is that (insert name of) popular channel has become boring now that the boat’s in good shape or they’ve upgraded to a newer, shinier model, or they’ve learned how to sail, and are now spending all their time spear-fishing and sharing ceviche recipes. If you relate to that sentiment and need an antidote…
Yorkshireman Layton Barr of Sailing LAGERTHA has recently bought a Westerly Centaur, renamed her after his favourite viking shieldmaiden, and plans to fix her up and then go explore the Norwegian fjords… once he learns to sail. Expect to learn a thing or two about marine electronics from Layton, as that’s his profession. He’s pretty sure we’re not going to like the new livery he’s got planned.
5. Lightship South Goodwin – Harry Dwyer
Professional video director Harry Dwyer has created a surprisingly engaging video on his channel Harry Dwyer about removing a huge quantity of expanding foam from inside a decommissioned lightship. The project takes nearly two years and the team displays an impressive amount of persistence and ingenuity.
As a reward for his filmmaking services, Harry is given the lightship’s tender, an Avon Sea Rider SR4 RIB. So he also made a series of videos about renovating the RIB.
Project Speedboat Part 7
6. Hurley Silhouette MkII Misumi – Alex Goes Sailing
The COVID-19 lockdown has led to the birth of a number of new channels, as frustrated sailors get busy in the editing suite instead of on the water. One that caught my eye is Alex Goes Sailing , in which a resourceful young lad from south-west London acquires a 1960 Hurley Silhouette MkII for £60 and slowly rebuilds it before embarking on a number of trailer-sailing coastal adventures in the Solent and Devon. Alex has since traded up to a £300 1970 Vivacity 650 bilge-keeler. One to watch.
7. Pearson 36 Uma – Sailing Uma
Meanwhile, at the Mayflower Marina in Plymouth, Sailing Uma ’s Dan and Kika managed to finish a number of ambitious projects on their Pearson 36 and relaunch before the UK lockdown began. Recent episodes see them replacing their electric motor and shaft drive with a snazzy second-hand Oceanvolt saildrive propulsion system and working with their friends at Multimarine to design, construct and fit a carbon fibre bowsprit in anticipation of adding a Code 0 to their sail wardrobe. If you don’t have friends willing to knock up a carbon fibre sprit for you don’t worry, I’m reliably informed that the lower portion of a windsurfer mast can also work.
(The Uma’s are always busy with new DIY – here’s their ‘Creative Tiny Wood Stove Installation’)
8. Carter 33 Chak Matay – Bums on a boat
Bums on a Boat is another channel chronicling the rescue of a classic that many would consider a lost cause. In this case it’s a modern classic, a Carter 33 built in Greece in 1974. The rescuers are an entertaining young American couple who, after sailing some time in the Caribbean, hauled out in Luperon, Dominican Republic to discover serious structural issues. I recommend starting from the haul-out at episode 62.
9. Gamelin Madeira 37 Chuffed – Vet Tails Sailing Chuffed
Meanwhile, in Mexico, sailing vet Dr Sheddy on Vet Tails’ Sailing Chuffed rises to the challenge of being the suddenly single owner of her 1990 Gamelin Madeira 37, while continuing to do her admirable voluntary work of providing lifesaving treatments to pets and wildlife.
10. Leopard 50 Happy Together – Sailing SV Happy Together
YouTube’s recommendation algorithm suggested I check out Sailing SV Happy Together , which is the closest thing I’ve seen to an episode of MTV Cribs for yachties. Randy and Lenny are an American couple in their 50s who last year traded up their Leopard 48 to a new Leopard 50, and, after taking delivery of the boat, proceeded to spend an eye-watering amount of money on extensive upgrades to, well, everything they could think of, in preparation for their eventual participation in the World ARC Rally.

Chuck liddell explains viral yacht mishap, here's what happened, chuck liddell explains viral yacht mishap ... here's what happened, exclusive 76 3/9/2024 12:40 am pt.
Chuck Liddell is finally addressing what led to him going overboard on a Lamborghini yacht last month ... telling TMZ Sports it was a simple whoopsie-daisy moment.
The Iceman turned into Aquaman during a recent trip to San Diego ... falling off the side of the luxurious watercraft in front of all his peers -- requiring some serious assistance to get out of the water.
Liddell chalked the fall up to his animated hand gestures while talking ... and once he lost his balance, he only had two options -- hit the deck or aim for the H20.
Of course, Liddell chose the latter ... and in his opinion, that was the best way to avoid getting hurt.
The former UFC superstar says he's a pro when it comes to boats ... and he's pretty adventurous at sea, even doing flips off top decks of much bigger vessels in the past.
As for how he's doing, Liddell says he's completely fine ... so everyone can relax.
In fact, he tells us he's heading to Miami ... and chances are he'll be back on the water again.

A 20-Year-Old Transcriber Is Turning Sheet Music Into Hot Content
George Collier started his YouTube channel as a way to stay engaged with music during the pandemic. Now nearly a million followers tune in for his notations.
By Tristan Geary
For some budding musicians (and even old pros), the very sight of sheet music can elicit a fight-or-flight response, bringing up painful memories of strict piano teachers and high-pressure recitals. George Collier , a 20-year-old music transcriber, is doing his part to change that.
Collier, a student at Warwick University in the United Kingdom, takes snippets of videos from live performances by well-known artists like Wynton Marsalis and Celine Dion, or bedroom musicians who’ve posted clips online, and adds detailed directions for what’s being played. Juggling harmony, melody and rhythm, he turns sounds into wildly detailed notations and shares the results with an audience of over 882,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel , where his most popular videos have between 5 million and 18 million views.
“Music can be a bit uptight, particularly in the whole music theory land,” Collier said during a break between lectures, as he video chatted from a light-filled campus building where the sounds of bustling university life swirled around him. In his videos, made with the help of a team of transcribers, he deciphers mesmerizing cadenzas, barbershop quartet arrangements, funk jams and jazz solos in an entertaining way that softens sheet music’s reputation as something academic and unforgiving.
His video “ When You Make the Trombone SING ” takes on a soaring trombone solo by Frank Lacy from a performance in 1988 with the Art Blakey Big Band. Another clip, titled “ She Practiced 40 Hours a Day for This ,” captures a virtuosic Mozart piano cadenza by Mitsuko Uchida. While Collier specializes in jazz, he also showcases performances from the classical world, as well as everyday people with impressive talents. A clip titled “ When Your Family Is Musically Competent ” features a version of “Happy Birthday” that turns into improvised gospel-laden riffing. His video “ Pro Musician Jams With Street Performer on Subway ” notates a saxophonist on the London Underground as he spontaneously engages a guitarist in a version of Big Joe Turner’s “Shake, Rattle and Roll.”
“The transcriptions are to understand the musical decisions made by performers,” Collier said. “It doesn’t really matter how famous you are. If you make good stuff, then people are going to want to listen.”
Laufey, the Grammy-winning cellist and multi-instrumentalist, has been the subject of Collier’s videos multiple times, and she appreciates his broad taste. “It’s celebrating, I think, real musicianship,” she said in a video interview, “and uplifts artists that aren’t necessarily the most popular.” She noted that his channel is also a powerful source of discovery: “I’ve got lots of comments, especially on YouTube, where people say: ‘I found this song from George Collier’s video.’”
Collier grew up about two hours north of London, in Cambridgeshire, a low-lying county known for its pastoral beauty and historic universities. After picking up piano and trumpet by age 8, he began showing a keen interest in jazz. In 2020, when the pandemic hit and in-person music making ground to a halt, Collier, then 16, started expending his musical energy online, uploading his first transcriptions to YouTube as a just-for-fun side project to combat lockdown boredom.
One of these early uploads was a particularly beautiful piano and voice interlude from “ Hajanga ” by Jacob Collier (no relation) during a performance with the MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble. The video attracted a modest view count at first, but in February 2021 it connected with YouTube’s elusive algorithm, accumulating 200,000 views in just nine days.
Collier is now a student of philosophy and politics — “Hardly music-related,” he quipped — but he is also the musical director of his university’s founding a cappella group, the Leamingtones. Some of his key musical influences often appear as the subjects of his transcriptions, including Jacob Collier, the guitarist Cory Wong and the funk band Vulfpeck.
Navigating full-time student life, plus recently starting his own web development agency, has made it difficult for Collier to fit exacting music transcriptions into his day. To keep his channel consistently uploading, he works with transcribers from the United States, Germany, Hungary, Austria and beyond, and sometimes brings in an online music transcription service. A far cry from a pandemic pastime, his project is now monetized, and operates as much as a business as it does a hobby. Collier breaks even through view-count-dependent payouts from YouTube, but in keeping with his channel’s spirit of accessible music education, he leaves the transcriptions free to download.
Collier stressed that he wants his audience “to have fun watching the videos, whether by being amazed by the performer, whether it’s being amazed by how someone can transcribe that, or whether it’s being amazed at some of the daft comments on the transcription.” When traditional notation can’t reflect the raw energy onscreen, Collier and his team, well, improvise.
“ Whilst standing on one leg” is marked into a transcription of a flute solo by the Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson as his limbs become increasingly erratic onstage. “Induce stank face in First Lady ” is annotated into a transcription of Trombone Shorty’s performance of “ St. James Infirmary ” at the White House in 2012, as Michelle Obama’s face contorts in approval at Shorty’s growling solo.
“It can be very intimidating to approach music at that high level without some kind of in, ” the professional musician and YouTuber Adam Neely said. Watching Collier’s videos, “you’re given permission to laugh and find community with people that you wouldn’t normally think of.”
While perfecting the transcriptions is Collier’s priority, he wants his videos to be seen as widely as possible, and has learned a lot about the YouTube algorithm. Many of his videos are titled in the “when you” format, like “ When You Hit Puberty Twice ,” which transcribes a basso profundo’s astonishingly low vocal performance, or “ When You Practice 40 Hours a Day ,” which tracks an impossibly fast rendition of George Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” by the pianist Hiromi Uehara.
“It’s not just hypermusical nerds who click,” Collier said. “It’s people that may not even be musicians, may not even understand the transcription, but click on it for the title and stay for the music.” In turn, his videos have amassed over 300 million views. “It’s just democratizing, making it accessible for everyone, and everything for free,” he added.
Laufey agreed with this assessment. “I think social media has been that kind of great equalizer,” she said, calling Collier’s channel a “great way for my fans to also learn my tunes.”
Despite his steadily growing subscriber base, Collier is hesitant to make YouTube his full-time job. “I don’t want something that I enjoy as a hobby to risk becoming work,” he said. But until he moves on — or the algorithm does — he’s still enjoying that he can help inspire first-timers to pick up an instrument, and old-timers to dust theirs off.

Israel’s war on Gaza updates: ‘Humanitarian islands’ for Rafah civilians
With international community’s help, Israel’s military says it will transfer 1.4 million Palestinians to central Gaza ahead of its Rafah invasion.
- Israel’s military plans to transfer about 1.4 million Palestinian civilians trapped in southern Rafah city to “humanitarian islands” in the middle of Gaza before it launches a ground invasion.
- Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US government has yet to see an Israeli proposal to “get civilians out of harm’s way” in Rafah and ensures shelter, food and medicine.
- Israeli attack hits a UN aid distribution centre in Rafah, killing at least one UNRWA staff member and wounding another 22.
- At least 31,272 Palestinians have been killed and 73,024 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The death toll in Israel from Hamas’s October 7 attack stands at 1,139 and dozens continue to be held captive.

- Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari says that there are plans to push a significant amount of the more than one million displaced Palestinians in Rafah towards “humanitarian islands” in the centre of the Gaza Strip in advance of Israel’s planned offensive on the city.
- Lebanon’s Hezbollah has said two of its fighters were killed in the Bekaa Valley after Israeli jets launched attacks on the area for a second consecutive day. Israel also killed a Hamas member in south Lebanon’s largest city Tyre when it attacked a car.
- An unpublished report by UNRWA details the extensive use of torture against Palestinians taken prisoner by the Israeli military in Gaza, including 21 agency staff members and 15 family members of UNRWA staff, an accusation Israel has denied.
- Israeli forces shot a Palestinian who allegedly stabbed two Israelis at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.
Report: US privately tells Israel it will accept small-scale Rafah offensive
A report from US news site Politico says that senior US officials have told their Israeli counterparts that the administration of President Biden will support the targeting of “high-value Hamas targets in and underneath Rafah”.
The report cites four unnamed US officials, who told Politico that the US wants Israel to avoid a large-scale invasion of the southern Gaza City, where some 1.5 million displaced Palestinians are sheltered after fleeing Israeli bombardment in other parts of the Strip.
“In private conversations, top administration officials have signaled to Israel that they could support a plan more akin to counterterrorism operations than all-out war, four US officials said”, the report says.
“That, the administration officials argue, would minimize civilian casualties, decimate Hamas’ ranks and avoid scenes that have led to souring public opinion on Israel’s campaign and Biden’s handling of the war.”
The US has long said that it would require a plan to protect civilians in Rafah before it supported Israel’s promised Rafah invasion. Today, Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters that the US has yet to see such a plan.

Palestinians named a street in Jericho after Aaron Bushnell – the US airman who died after setting himself on fire to protest Israel’s war on Gaza.

Getting aid into Gaza ‘very unpredictable’
Janti Soeripto, president of the charity Save the Children US, says it is “very unpredictable” which aid trucks can make it into Gaza and which ones are rejected.
“I saw a wooden toy box with games for children being rejected because the box was made of wood, and it had to be packed in carton boxes,” Soeripto, who was at the Rafah crossing in January, told Al Jazeera.
“Hygiene kits with soap, blankets and sanitary pads for women got rejected because there was a nail clipper in it. The list goes on.”
Moreover, Soeripto said even if trucks make it into Gaza, distribution inside was “problematic” amid the ongoing fighting in the coastal enclave.
“There’s so much rubble and destruction around that it is physically even hard to actually get the last mile in order to deliver our supplies when they make it in,” she added.
Attack on UN aid centre targeted Hamas commander: Israel military
Israel says its air strike on a UN food distribution centre in southern Gaza killed a Hamas commander after the UN said one staff member was killed and 22 others were wounded.
The Israeli military said the strike killed Mohammad Abu Hasna, whom the military described as a Hamas fighter who provided intelligence on Israeli troop positions, and was “also involved in taking control of humanitarian aid and distributing it to Hamas terrorists”.
In a statement, Hamas said Abu Hasna was a member of its police force and condemned his killing as a “cowardly assassination” meant to disrupt aid distribution.
Hamas identified another of the five killed as the head of an emergency committee for Rafah, Nidal al-Sheikh Eid.
WATCH: US woman rescued from Gaza rubble after Israeli air strike
An American woman living in Gaza was pulled from the rubble of an Israeli air strike after a two-hour operation to free her.
After she was freed, she had a message of solidarity with Palestinians facing Israel’s war. Watch the video below:
‘Who are you negotiating with if Hamas has been defeated?’
The leader of Hezbollah says Israel has already lost the war on Gaza, even if it launches a ground invasion of Rafah with the stated aim to “destroy” Hamas.
“Even if you go to Rafah, you have lost the war. Despite all the massacres, Gaza’s people will not surrender to you. The people of Gaza are still embracing the resistance,” Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech.
“Who are you negotiating with if Hamas has been defeated?” Lebanese media quoted him as saying.
“All Palestinian factions are unanimous in stopping the aggression, contrary to what is being reported that Hamas is obstructing the negotiations.”
EU Council president calls for pause in Gaza fighting
Charles Michel says a humanitarian pause is urgently needed, as well as the release of all captives.
“The EU will continue to insist on increasing urgently [needed] humanitarian aid, protection of all civilians and respect of international humanitarian law,” he said in a post on X.
Israel’s war on Gaza, raging since October 7, has caused mass civilian deaths, reduced vast areas to a rubble-strewn wasteland and sparked warnings of looming famine in the Palestinian territory of 2.3 million people.

Aid groups provide new evidence of Israel attack on staff members
Medical Aid for Palestinians and the International Rescue Committee provided new details of an Israeli air strike on a residential compound housing humanitarian workers and their families.
The January attack wounded several team members despite coordinates being shared with the Israeli military, which offered six different explanations that “ have not provided clarity” as to why it happened, a statement said.
“The variety of responses highlights a continued lack of transparency regarding what occurred. It is clear from this experience the Israeli military and government are either unable or unwilling to properly investigate this serious incident,” the groups said.
The statement called on Israel’s allies, including the US and UK, to launch “a full, independent and timebound investigation into the 18 January incident – and all reported attacks on deconflicted facilities and personnel”.
“As current suppliers of arms and munitions to Israel, governments such as the UK and the US have a particular responsibility to hold Israel accountable for this and other attacks on aid workers and civilians.”
Israeli army attacks Hezbollah
On X, the Israeli army says it recently attacked “military buildings used by the terrorist organization Hezbollah” inside Lebanese territory.
It claimed attacks on the areas of Mis al-Jabal and Ita al-Sha’ab in southern Lebanon. Additionally, the army said it carried out artillery attacks on the Wadi Hamool area.
Earlier in the day, Israel attacked a car in Tyre, south Lebanon’s largest city, killing two, including Hadi Mustafa, a Hamas member based in the Rashidieh Palestinian refugee camp near Tyre.
Criticism of Israel’s war and occupation is not anti-Semitism
Anti-Semitism, its prevalent nature, and the shame and guilt for the Holocaust that sit at the heart of Germany’s memory culture have indelibly shaped my life.
For many of Israel’s most ardent supporters, there is no space in the debate for those who criticise Israel’s actions. Nowhere is this more clear than in Germany, where German Jews, many of them Israelis, make up a disproportionate percentage of those detained for protesting against Tel Aviv’s warpath.
Violence begets violence. “Never again” must mean never again by anyone, against anyone.

Aid seekers injured by Israeli bullets in Gaza City
Al Jazeera’s correspondent reports that nine Palestinians awaiting aid distribution at the Kuwaiti roundabout in southern Gaza City were wounded by Israeli forces.
This roundabout has been the site of several attacks on aid seekers by Israel in recent weeks.

Israeli MPs approve revised wartime budget
Israel’s parliament has adopted a revised budget for 2024 allowing for more spending to finance the war against Hamas, now in its sixth month.
The new budget passed by a vote of 62 lawmakers to 55.
It modifies the budget passed in May 2023, increasing the spending limit by 70.4 billion shekels ($19.4bn), or more than 14 percent, according to a statement from Israel’s legislature, the Knesset.
Of that amount, 55 billion shekels ($15.1bn) could be allocated to the military and 15.5 billion ($4.1bn) could go “to finance civilian needs”, the statement said.
WATCH: How does US intelligence disagree with Israel on Gaza?

EU, 5 other nations call on Israel to open additional crossings to Gaza
The European Union and five other countries in a joint statement called on Israel to open additional crossings besides the Cyprus maritime corridor so more aid can reach the coastal enclave.
“The ministers agreed there is no meaningful substitute to land routes via Egypt and Jordan and entry points from Israel into Gaza for aid delivery at scale,” it said, following a virtual ministerial meeting.
“The ministers underscored the need for Israel to open additional crossings so more aid can reach Gaza, including the north, and to ease overall customs restrictions to facilitate an increased flow of life-saving humanitarian assistance.”

Blinken comments on Israeli attack on UNRWA facility
In his news conference, the US secretary of state has told reporters that the US offers its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who “apparently” were killed in today’s bombing of an aid distribution facility operated by the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees.
According to UNRWA, the attack killed at least one of its staff members and injured an additional 22 other people.
Blinken admitted that he did not know “the facts” of the incident, but said that he spoke to the Israeli army about it, which told him that they were investigating.
He said that the incident reinforces “the imperative of having much better and much more consistent deconfliction,” between humanitarian workers and the Israeli army, adding that the people working to distribute desperately needed humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip must “be able to do their jobs with as much security and as much confidence as possible”.
The Israeli military, the Israeli government, have a responsibility to make sure that humanitarian work can be carried out,” he continued, including not striking “clearly marked” humanitarian facilities.
Israeli attacks on aid trucks and Palestinians seeking the aid carried by those trucks have been frequent over the last several weeks, including in northern Gaza, which is on the verge of famine.
Israeli military says it will push Rafah’s civilians to ‘humanitarian islands’
Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari says that there are plans to push a significant amount of the more than one million displaced Palestinians in Rafah toward “humanitarian islands” in the centre of the Gaza Strip in advance of its planned offensive on the city.
“We need to make sure that 1.4 million people or at least a significant amount of the 1.4 million will move. Where? To humanitarian islands that we will create with the international community,” Hagari told reporters at a briefing.
Hagari said those islands would provide temporary housing, food, water and other necessities to evacuated Palestinians. He did not say when Rafah’s evacuation would occur, nor when the Rafah offensive would begin, saying that Israel wanted the timing to be right operationally and to be coordinated with neighbouring Egypt, which has said it does not want an influx of displaced Palestinians crossing its border.
The US has frequently said that it will not support an Israeli invasion of Rafah without a clear plan to protect civilians there.
During its war on Gaza, Israel has frequently designated areas and corridors of movement for civilians as “ safe zones ” before bombing them, killing many.
Blinken says Israel has still hasn’t presented a plan to protect civilians in Rafah
The US government has been consistently saying that it would not support Israel’s promised invasion of Rafah without a “clear” plan from the Israeli government to protect the more than one million displaced Palestinians that are currently sheltering there.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that the US government has “not seen such a plan” as of yet.
“We need to see a plan that will get civilians out of harm’s way if there is to be a military operation, and not only get’s them out of harm’s way, but ensures that they have shelter, food and medicine,” he said.
Protecting civilians must be ‘priority’ for Israel: US
Protecting and aiding civilians must be “job number one” for Israel in the war-battered Gaza Strip, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says.
“We look to the government of Israel to make sure this is a priority. Protecting civilians, getting people assistance they need, that has to be job number one, even as they do what is necessary to defend the country to deal with the threat posed by Hamas,” he told reporters.
US President Joe Biden has made contradictory statements about how he intends to approach mounting international concerns over Israel’s military actions.
On Saturday, he said an invasion of the southern city of Rafah would be a “red line” for Israel not to cross. Still, he said he would never “leave Israel” or “cut off all weapons” for the US ally.
‘Deep distress’ over Gaza war to sour St Patrick’s Day at White House
The annual White House celebration of St Patrick’s Day will be less festive because of Irish anger over US support for Israel’s attack on Gaza.
The SDLP, Northern Ireland’s smaller nationalist party, said it isn’t sending any representatives to Washington, DC, for Friday’s event.
“The White House St Patrick’s Day event is a party. We have taken the principled position that we won’t be attending that party,” said Claire Hanna, an SDLP lawmaker.
“This is about the deep distress that we and our constituents feel practically every hour of the day about what’s going on in Gaza, and our attempt to use whatever opportunities we have — parliamentary and otherwise — to contribute and create international momentum to end this,” the Washington Post quoted Hanna as saying.
Dutch PM Rutte calls on Netanyahu to step up humanitarian aid into Gaza
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte urged his Israeli counterpart to “drastically reduce the level of force” unleashed on the coastal enclave.
“Further escalation must be prevented and an Israeli offensive in Rafah would cause a humanitarian disaster,” he added.

‘Stop Arming Israel’ protesters block San Francisco airport in US
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters have shut down part of the San Francisco International Airport to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the end of all US military assistance to Israel.
Demonstrators chanted “Free, free Palestine” while holding a banner that read “Stop Arming Israel” as they blocked access to security gates inside the international terminal in northern California.
Protesters also halted traffic outside the departures entrance, blocking all lanes while marching in a circle with Palestinian flags.
Israel’s war on Gaza has sparked mass demonstrations in major cities across the United States and led to repeated interruptions at US President Joe Biden’s campaign events.

MSF condemns last months’ Jenin hospital attacks
The international medical charity Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres, or MSF) says Israel’s attack was just the “latest act of appalling violence” at the facility.
“In the last months, our team has witnessed bullets and tear gas grenades being fired at the facility, a minor being killed, ambulances being obstructed, and healthcare professionals being targeted,” Samuel Johann, MSF project coordinator in Jenin, said in a series of posts on X.
“Shooting people in a hospital, or any act of violence in a healthcare facility, is completely unacceptable. We unequivocally condemn the continued attacks on healthcare facilities.”
South Africa says citizens fighting with Israeli forces in Gaza will be arrested
South Africa’s foreign minister has said that any of her country’s citizens who fight with the Israeli armed forces in Gaza will be arrested when they return home.
Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor made the comments earlier this week at a Palestinian solidarity event attended by officials from South Africa’s governing African National Congress Party.
“I have already issued a statement alerting those who are South African and are fighting alongside or in the [Israeli military]: We are ready. When you come home, we are going to arrest you,” Pandor said, to rapturous applause from the audience.
She also encouraged people to protest outside the embassies of what she called the “five primary supporters” of Israel and its military action in Gaza.
In December, the foreign ministry said that the South African government was concerned that some of its citizens or permanent residents had joined the Israeli military to fight in Gaza.
Those with dual South African-Israeli citizenship could be stripped of their South African citizenship, the foreign ministry said.
The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock
- The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
- The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
- Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.
The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.
Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.
"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.
In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.
Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.
"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.
Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.
"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8. The Harbor Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.
Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."
"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."
In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."
