Description

“MAITIA”, an interesting example of the sought after Privilege 615 series by Alliaura Marine is for sale. The Privilege 615 is a blue water capable catamaran, providing every comfort necessary on board while retaining good sailing performance. MAITIA’s current owner has undertaken several upgrades including the installation of a second generator and additional winches to improve the sailing ergonomics. The most important change made by the owner is the modification of the flybridge. The boom has been raised sufficiently to allow for standing headroom, a large dining table and seating. The dining table can be lowered to create a large sun pad – as seen on her sisterships. The modifications have been professionally inspected and have received the appropriate CE homologation.

MAITIA is available immediately, lying new San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain. If you would to receive additional information, photography or to arrange a viewing, do not hesitate to contact us.

Privelége 615

  • By Mark Pillsbury
  • Updated: February 27, 2015

Privilège Marine, a French builder of big bluewater cruising catamarans, arrived in style at Strictly Sail Miami this past winter with two cats for the company’s first visit to a U.S. show in several years. Models on display included the 745, the company’s longtime flagship, and a more modern sailboat, the 615, a 62-footer that’s an anchor for the company’s new Series 6.0 line of cats (there will also be a 5.0 and 7.0 series as production gathers steam).

Privilège’s roots go back to 1985, when winning BOC Challenge singlehanded racer Philippe Jeantot founded the company and set up shop in Les Sables-d’Olonne. In 1996, the company expanded under the direction of Alliaura Marine, producing both catamarans and the Feeling brand of monohulls. The company hit a rough patch with the global financial meltdown, but the brand was brought back to life in 2012 under the direction of Gilles Wagner, and with many from the old team back at work in the Privilège yard.

The 615 is a lovely boat. In keeping with the latest style, it sports a flybridge complete with twin wheels (the starboard wheel is an option, as is a second set of engine controls) and a sprawling sun bed where the crew can lounge the day away. Stairs on either side lead below to a generous cockpit, where a second lounging area sits to port; a long oval table is to starboard.

A large centerline sliding door opens to the saloon, a couple of steps down. Indoors, an L-shaped couch surrounds another large table, with director-style chairs that can be moved about as needed. A very sea-kindly and fully equipped galley is located in the saloon’s forward starboard corner (galley down in the starboard hull is another option). A nav station is to port and can be equipped with a joystick and engine controls to make an additional helm station.

A couple of living accommodations are available: a five-cabin charter version and the four-cabin owner’s model, which was at the show. The starboard hull is fairly conventional, with a fore and aft cabin, both with en suite heads and showers. An additional fridge and freezer were located amidships. To port, a third cabin took up the aft portion of that hull; the owner’s suite stretched from amidships forward and culminated in the master bedroom, spanning the entire area forward of the mast. The layout, space, and fit and finish were nothing short of stunning.

Despite its size, under sail the 615 was one of the easier of the large cats to handle. Though a staysail and gennaker are both options, this boat had a single furling genoa with sheets led to electric winches on either side of the flybridge. In 9 knots of true wind, we skipped right along at nearly 7 knots closehauled. Later, reaching in a 13-knot breeze, the speed climbed to an effortless 9 knots (and more).

As we turned around off South Beach to head back for the barn, I stepped below briefly and revisited the owner’s stateroom, marveling at the silence below: just what you want to hear on a long downwind sail to nowhere.

Privilege 615: Grace & Strength on the Biscayne Bay Boat Review

privilege 615 luxury bluewater catamaran

During the five-day Strictly Sail Miami show, it took everything I had not to board her, as I wanted to experience everything as “new” on my sailing adventure. With childlike anticipation, I raced from my home in Boca Raton like a Grand Prix driver, efficiently dodging south Florida traffic, to make it to the docks on the Tuesday after the show by 8 AM. With a Café con Leche in hand, I stood patiently on docks adjacent to  Privilege 615 Hull 21 waiting to be invited on board. Yes, I do, love my job!

Cecilia and Bernard were my hosts for the day. I was greeted with a warm French welcome from Celcia while Bernard busily attended to lines and fenders. The air was crisp, the sun was shining and the seas were calm, I could not have ordered a better day!

On our way to Biscayne Bay, I decided to use the time it took Bernard to maneuver this 60’6” by 30’3” catamaran through the floating docks (still in place from the show) to take a look at the interior trappings of this truly breathtaking Marc Lombard-designed cat. Ceclia accompanied me to insure I was aware that this particular Privilege, the 615 , is used primarily for private use. Owners tend to be avid sailors with the intent to circumnavigate in luxury. Another interesting fact of Hull 21 is that she is just one of threemade by Privilege Marine with the galley up.

privilege 615 luxury bluewater catamaran

The crème de la crème of this model however is the Owner’s suite. It is completely unexpected and I am certain my photos do not give it justice! As you walk through the port side hull, it’s like many other luxury cats. You see ahead of you a nice desk and seating area just like other owner’s suites, but it really isn’t the same. Once past the cabin doors, MM a quick glance to starboard will take your breath away. The bed itself is up a set of stairs and tucked into an alcove. The suite spans nearly 20 feet across. It is extraordinary!

Once on the bay it was time to venture out into the gorgeous  Florida sunshine. It was a bit surreal … the colors that day … everything so vibrant. The bright blue sky against the crisp white mast with the chrome-plated stainless steel winches. A true mise en place – A place for everything and everything in its place. Two steering stations allow you to have a complete panoramic view of the deck and control over your sailing. With cruising speeds of 9 knots, 11 knots with the gennaker, Bernard was in his glory cruising around Biscayne Bay dodging kite fisherman and photographers like a body guarding evading paparazzi for his star.

We had a very nice discussion, translated by Cecilia, as my French is not as good as it used to be, about the technical compartments on the 615. He explained that necessary storage was not missed on this cat and how easy it was to access her engine rooms. He further discussed the centralized rigging making management of the sails simple and easily handled by two.

This is part of the Privilege philosophy. According to Cecilia, since Phillipe Jeantot’s first design in 1985, their vision continues to be one of maintaining performance, low center of gravity and proportion. The 615, with her sleek design and versatile range, reinforce that philosophy. The day was magical and I thank everyone who made it possible! Source: MultiHulls Magazine

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

We take pride in our happy customers

Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb

I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.

Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.

— Beverly Cory

Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.

I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.

— Eric Boutiette

Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.
