Rolex Yachtmaster 116655 Full Review

Behold the  new rose gold Rolex Yachtmaster with the Rolex Oysterflex Bracelet: Rolex's 1st Rubber Strap

With the new rose gold Rolex Yachtmaster, Rolex watchmakers held no punches and put in nearly every great idea they ever had into one amazing watch. The Rolex Yachtmaster has been around since the early '90s and came in an assortment of materials from gold and steel all the way up to platinum. They are known for being shiny and luxurious from one end to the next. So it comes as no surprise that the world was taken by a storm when they decided to use rubber to introduce the new Rolex Yachtmaster watch reference #116655 . Was it a step up or a step down for the series? PrestigeTime.com bloggers believe that pictures speak much louder than words.

The new men's Yachtmaster from Rolex is a 40mm 18k rose gold case watch with a black dial and accented in Rolex's very own Everose gold. Just like their proprietary 18kt rose gold alloy, Rolex will always prefer to create the status quo and not have to rise to meet it because of anyone else.

In the new rose gold Rolex Yachtmaster, they held no punches and put in nearly every great idea they ever had into one amazing watch.

At the core lies their in-house Rolex movement, the automatic caliber 3135 which resonates at 28,800 vph containing 31 jewels and has a whopping 50-hour power reserve. Of course, it would not be complete without their "Cyclops" magnifier. The new rose gold Rolex Yachtmaster is also known as the m116655-0001.

Rolex is also no stranger to trending luxury watches. They tend to be the first in doing and introducing many things. While rubber has been around for a long time and has been used on many watches over the years, both high-end luxury watches and everything else. Rubber had no place on a Rolex watch until now. Rolex waited this long to introduce this material into their products not because they were hesitant to be part of the trend, on the contrary,

they wanted to revolutionize the rubber watch band before using it on their first-ever rubber strapped watch. Creating the best rubber bracelet was something Rolex obsessed about until its perfection. Enter the new Rolex  Oysterflex bracelet which we hope to see on more of their men's watches. A rubber-coated two-piece titanium bracelet with a patented cushioning system. The black elastomer coating is a similar substance to what you see on the Apple Watch. The bracelet has an Oysterlock clasp in solid 18k Everose gold which seals the deal. Rolex held nothing back in reinventing and over-engineering the perfect rubber bracelet that has the same elasticity as a metal bracelet without the initial cold feeling of a metal bracelet when first placed on a wrist. Now it's just a matter of time before a platinum Rolex comes with a rubber Oysterflex bracelet.

In 2015 Rolex introduces the Rolex Yachtmaster watch model #116655, the first Rolex watch with the all-new rubber Oysterflex band with an 18k rose gold clasp. After its creation, they saw all that they have made …and it was good.

Most recently this watch has been upgraded with a new movement and new reference number that we sell new, in its original box, with a warranty, and with free shipping to the United States. The new Rolex 126655 Yachtmaster 40mm is essentially the same watch with a few improvements. Specifically, the caliber inside has been replaced with the Rolex in-house caliber 3235, a Superlative Chronometer with exceptional precision, 31 watch jewels, Paraflex shock absorbers, and a substantially longer power reserve duration of approximately 70 hours.

Review: Rolex 116655 Yachtmaster 40 Rose Gold Oysterflex Sports Watch

rolex yacht master 116655

A hand-on, in-depth review of the highly intriguing, ultra luxurious Yachtmaster 40 (Rolex 116655) . This is the first Everose version of the Yachtmaster. The first Oysterflex Bracelet version of the Yachtmaster. And, the first Cerachrom bezel  matte black version of the Yachtmaster.

Today we are reviewing the Rolex 116655 Yachtmaster 40, which was released back in 2015. This watch was a novel take on the Yachtmaster, with its unique strap and bezel and use of precious metal rather than the classic stainless steel.

It was a hit straight out of the box. It drew a lot of attention to this wonderful watch and the Yachtmaster collection as a whole.

In this article, we are going to briefly discuss the Yachtmaster collection. Then we are going to cover all of the finer details of this particular watch, digging into all of its patented creations, while also giving our personal, hands-on opinion.

So, let’s begin.

The Three Highlights of This Watch

There are a few features that stand out about this Yachtmaster.

  • It is the first Yachtmaster to be crafted from Rolex’s rose gold Everose. The case and the clasp that is, as the strap is something entirely unique.
  • Possibly the most special thing about this watch is the strap. It’s called an Oysterflex Bracelet, and it is an entirely Rolex creation. It first appeared in 2015 (same years as this watch’s release), and it is only used on certain precious metal Rolex’s, such as this Yachtmaster 40. It may look like rubber, but in fact, it is a high performance black elastomer with a nickel alloy metal blade running through the center of it. The Oysterflex has impeccable stability, structure, and comfort. The Oysterflex Bracelet is super unique and cool. We will talk more about the Oysterflex later in this post.
  • Last, but definitely not least, the Cerachrom ceramic bezel. As with pretty much everything Rolex does, this is also a special Rolex creation. What’s special about this particular bidirectional Cerachrom bezel is that it has a matte finishing rather than Rolex’s typical glossy Cerachrom bezel that you see on watches like the GMT-Master II.

Yachtmaster History

The Yachtmaster (actually written as ‘Yacht-Master’) was designed to be a high end lifestyle sports watch. Although all Rolex watches are “high end”, most would be considered more utilitarian, like the Submariner and GMT-Master.

As most know, and as the name suggests, the Yachtmaster was made for affluent sailors and people who own yachts. Because the watch is made for sailing the seas, all Yachtmasters use an Oyster case. So, they can have a good degree of water resistance. Moreover, Yachtmasters have a bidirectional bezel. And the Yachtmaster II also has a regatta timer for those who race on the lush, moveable surface known as the ocean.

The Yachtmaster wasn’t made to be a pro diving watch or a watch for pilots. Yet it shows up in those fields by professionals who have a keen eye for the Yachtmaster.

In any case, what’s more than its water resistance, bidirectional bezel, and usefulness on the ocean is the fact that the Yachtmaster was made to allure and emit style and status…the most fitting aspect of a watch for the world of yacht owners .

When you think about it, essentially every major watch manufacturer has a collection for marine or nautical use. There’s Omega, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Seiko, Ulysee Nardin, Blancpain, IWC, Richard Mille, and more, yet none of those brands really compete with the Rolex Yachtmaster when it comes to both functionality, design and status for those who sail the world on expensive boats. The Yachtmaster is the epitome of a nautical luxury tool watch.

With all that said, surprisingly, the Yachtmaster collection has only had a relatively small (yet fierce and loyal) following of Rolex enthusiasts since its first ever creation in 1992.

That is until the Yachtmaster 40 came out.

Rolex 116655 Yachtmaster 40 Rose Gold

The Yachtmaster 40 reference 116655 came out in 2015. It helped open more a lot more eyes to the Yachtmaster collection.

The 40mm size and the overall luxurious style with the matt black on Everose on matt black on matt black made this watch an instant must have. It was a rendition of the Yachtmaster that got people talking. It’s like a polished man’s Submariner if you will.

Personally, we absolutely love the Rolex 116655, which is why we are reviewing it today, 4 years after its release. Now, we are going to dig into all the nitty gritty details and features of this watch.

Everose Gold

As we mentioned above, Everose is Rolex’s very own rose gold. It is an in-house and patented creation. Everose is a beautiful 18 ct rose gold that has a special, exclusive alloy that preserves beauty far greater than most rose gold alloys. It was first introduced in 2005, and now Rolex only uses Everose for their rose gold watches.

On this particular model, the case, crown and clasp are all carefully crafted from Rolex’s precious Everose, with a finishing that is incredibly striking.

Thanks to Rolex creating one of the finest precious metal alloys the world has to offer, you can be confident that this rose gold watch won’t dull or fade over time.

You probably already know this, but the Yachtmaster 40 has a traditional 40 mm case size. It is an Oyster case. This one is water resistant to 100 meters (more than enough for your typical dive).

Back in 2007, Yachtmaster changed the Oyster case shape. So this one has the more sporty and modern look compared to pre-2007 Yachtmasters. Overall, Rolex has made nice refinements to the newer Yachtmaster cases and that includes this one.

Moreover, the Yachtmaster 40 has all the same reliable constructions of your normal Yachtmaster watches, such as a triple-sealed “Triplock” screw down crown and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal covering the dial with a magnified cyclops eye.

However, what’s very special about the case of the Yachtmaster 40 is it is crafted from precious metal (Everose) rather than what Yachtmaster has always used in the past, which is Rolex’s Oystersteel (their patented 904L stainless steel).

If you know Rolex sports watches, then you know this is special, as most references use either solid stainless steel or a blend of stainless steel and gold.

We think this was a genius move for the Yachtmaster for two reasons. One, the Yachtmaster is geared towards luxury sports lifestyle, which is different than their professional series. So, the use of precious metal is very appropriate. And two, modern sports watch buyers want precious metals, especially rose gold. The trend has become clear, and thanks to Rolex, even more so.

Bidirectional Rotatable Matte Black Bezel

It’s very rare to see a matte black dial on a Rolex sports watch, and what a pleasant surprise this was when it was first released back in 2015. The matte finish allows for better legibility and the look is more aggressive than your typical slight gloss Rolex bezel.

The bezel on the Yachtmaster rotates bidirectionally and it has slightly raised 60 minute graduations that are glossy. They are precious metal graduations with a beautiful polish finishing, which makes them stand out impeccably on the matt black sand-blasted background. Even with it being black on black.

The bezel is more than just looks, though. It is a functional bezel. The bezel allows the wearer to calculate times between distances. For example, you could use it when sailing between two buoys.

And, likely the bezel’s most important aspect, it is made from Cerachrom, which is Rolex’s patented ceramic material. Cerachrom is extremely durable and scratch resistant. It is pretty much as scratch resistant as the sapphire crystal.

The Rolex 116655 pairs the matte black bezel and Everose incredibly well with the dial.

The dial is luxurious and business like. It is a matte black maxi dial, except the lume plots have an Everose surrounding and the hands are Everose with blue glowing Chromalight. Using Everose hands was a smart move, as not only does it match the case, but it also prevents tarnishing and creates an amazing identity. What’s more, the hands are beautifully polished, giving it that true Rolex character and allowing for incredibly easy legibility as the hands really pop.

The dial’s writing is a mixture of white and Everose, with exception of the red “YACHT-MASTER” lettering above the 6 o’clock. The red lettering was a fantastic touch, as it charmingly stands out.

All in all, it is an extremely contemporary dial, mainly crafted by hand, and completely manufactured in-house. We fell in love with it at first sight and so did the Rolex community. This is the dial the people were hoping for with the release of the Submariner, yet they got it with the Yachtmaster 40. No complaints here.

rolex yacht master 40 rose gold review

Oysterflex Bracelet

Now, the bracelet may look like a rubber strap, but in fact, it is made with a flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade that is overmoulded by a high-performance black elastomer, which is very resistant to environmental effects, durable, and flawlessly inert for the wearer. It has maximum comfort, as the inside of the bracelet is fixed with a longitudinal cushion system. This stabilizes the watch on the wrist and fits it in the Everose Oysterlock safety clasp perfectly.

The Oysterflex bracelet was developed and patented by Rolex. It is their sporty alternative to metal bracelets.

You won’t find many Rolex watches with an Oysterflex. It was reserved for the Yachtmaster 40, a few gold Daytonas, and as of 2019, the Yachtmaster 42 white gold watch.

All in all, the Oysterflex bracelet is one of our favorite features of this watch. It’s extremely supple, comfortable, and secure. It just feels great wrapped around the wrist.

However, one crucial thing to note is that there isn’t much room for resizing with the Oysterflex bracelet. The Oysterlock clasp does have some micro-adjustability, but it’s still important that you get the bracelet in the right size as you can’t resize it. This one is perfect for a 7 inch wrist.

Caliber 3135 Movement

At the heart of the Rolex 116655 Yachtmaster 40 is a caliber 3135 automatic movement, which is, of course, COSC Chronometer certified. It’s the same movement that you will find in the Rolex Submariner Date.

It is a tried and true movement with great shock resistance thanks to its addition of the Paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring (another Rolex creation).

Overall, it is a reliable movement with extreme precision. The usual for Rolex.

Which Would You Choose? The Rolex Yacht-Master Everose 37mm vs 40mm

rolex yacht master 40mm rose gold review

The Yacht-Master has been an unashamedly high-end variation on the Submariner theme ever since it launched back in 1992. Only available in the most precious of precious metals, including being the watch to introduce Rolex’s own steel and platinum alloy Rolesium to the world, it has always been aimed squarely at the luxuriously active lifestyle market.

So the release of the two Everose gold, black dial versions in 2015 raised some luxuriously active eyebrows. With nothing quite like it emerging from the Rolex lair before, the 40mm ref. 116655 and its smaller brother, the 37mm ref. 268655 played host to several pioneering features.

Everose Gold Yachtmaster

They became the first Yacht-Masters to sport matt black dials, a more restrained but still unmistakably masculine element which is echoed across onto the sandblasted bezels; again, the only time Cerachrom has been used in the series.

Housing two different calibers, the Cal. 3135 inside the 40mm version has been a staple of Rolex watches for nearly 30 years, but the 2236 that powers the 37mm is their first movement to contain a silicon composite, or Syloxi, hairspring. Found originally in the ladies Datejust Pearlmaster range, the smaller Yacht-Master became the first men’s watch with the movement.

But it’s the bracelet, the sophisticated black Oysterflex band , which marked the biggest departure from the norm. What could well be mistaken for a simple rubber strap actually keeps completely true to Rolex’s prevailing theory that anything worth engineering is worth over-engineering.

Inside is a thin titanium nickel alloy blade, overmoulded with a hypoallergenic elastomer. The result is a strap as durable as a metal bracelet and supple enough to conform to the natural shape of your wrist. Two longitudinal ridges underneath play the twin roles of cushioning the watch, preventing it from shifting around as you wear it, while also allowing fresh air to circulate between the strap and your skin to provide more comfort on warm days.

Everose Gold Yachtmaster

Secured with the same rock solid Oysterlock clasp you’d find on the brand’s metal bracelets, Rolex’s first foray into rubber straps is a typically striking one.

Overall, the dramatically different Yacht-Master duo has proved extremely popular. The unorthodox combination of Everose and black gives the watch an aura of coolness it hasn’t had before and has also made its way onto the latest generation of the watch world’s current hottest player, the Cosmograph Daytona.

In fact, there’s just one debating point that remains amongst the brand faithful. The Yacht-Master is the only sports watch in the range to be offered in a choice of sizes.

Let’s take a look at what that distinction means.

37mm versus 40mm

First off, let’s get the financials out of the way. There is understandably a price difference between the two, but it’s hardly what you’d call a gulf and won’t be a factor for the Yacht-Master’s target audience. Those with enough buying power to spend $22,000 on a watch are unlikely to suddenly balk at $25,000.

So the choice comes down to one of aesthetics. On its launch in 1992, the Yacht-Master was actually available in three different sizes—a 29mm ladies version, a mid-size 35mm and the full-scale 40mm. Today, there is no official ladies size, but the new 37mm watch is listed under both the men’s and women’s section on the Rolex website.

The main reason is obviously the current trend for women wearing larger watches, but another factor could be the use of Everose gold. The pinkish quality of the metal sees it blend in slightly with skin tones, making the watch appear smaller than it actually is.

However, out of the Yacht-Master range, the black dial and bezel variants are definitely the least showy, and the 37mm case is also a popular choice for men content to wear a very discreet watch; one that doesn’t need to shout, fits more comfortably under a shirt sleeve and benefits from a lighter overall weight.

Everose Yacht-Master Gold

As for the 40mm watch, what would have been considered exceptionally large a few decades ago, is now very much an average. With that Everose effect of wearing smaller than the actual size, even men with slender wrists who usually opt for more modest pieces have been deciding to wear the bigger of the two models.

For an added bonus, with the contemporary thinking of bigger equals better, 40mm Yacht-Masters are enjoying a healthier resale value on the pre-owned market, if you decide you want to sell it on at some point down the road.

Conclusion on the Everose Yacht-Master

So, 37mm or 40mm? There is, of course, no right or wrong answer. The only choice is which size is better for you.

Everose Yacht-Master

Whichever you choose, what you’ll come away with is a very interesting chapter in Rolex’s long running story. The Swiss watchmaking colossus has a history of quietly releasing radically altered variants on some of their most timeless designs. The 116655 and 268655 appeared with very little fanfare and have gone on to become real favorites among the brand’s devotees.

Whether they will go on to become all-time classics, it’s too soon to call. But with just enough subtle nods to Rolex’s illustrious past, such as picking the Yacht-Master name out in red, harking back to the Double Red Sea-Dwellers of the sixties, and combining them with a host of never-before-seen features, I wouldn’t bet against it.

Rolex Yacht-Master Watch Review

Rolex yacht-master review.

Rolex has built a reputation on their classic and timeless designs. They’re not one to release a new model every other year. In fact, after the launch of the Daytona in 1963, it would be nearly another 30 years before they’d debut an entirely new model. That model was the Rolex Yacht-Master. Here, we’ll provide a Rolex Yacht-Master review, including key features of the Rolex Yacht-Master, the history of the Rolex Yacht-Master through the years, and notable wearers.

rolex yacht master 40mm rose gold review

List of Key Features of the Rolex Yacht-Master

  • Case: Available in three different sizes – 37mm, 40mm, and 42mm – and two materials – gold or two-tone gold and platinum
  • Bezel: Bidirectional, rotatable, 60-minute graduated bezel
  • Crown: Screw-down, Triplock, water-resistant crown system
  • Depth Rating: 100 meters of water resistance
  • Movement: Perpetual, mechanical, self-winding movement manufactured by Rolex
  • Band: Offered with either an Oyster bracelet or Oysterflex strap

History of the Rolex Yacht-Master through the Years

The very first  Rolex Yacht-Master  was the Reference 16628. The brand only offered the model in a 40mm, 18-karat yellow gold case with a white dial. The Ref. 16628 also came equipped with a screw-down, Triplock crown and boasted 100 meters of water resistance. Inside, it housed the Caliber 3135 movement.

For the first several years, Rolex only made minor changes to the Yacht-Master line. In 1994, they released a slightly different iteration of the Yacht-Master: the Reference 68628. This variation was smaller, with a 35mm case. That same year, they also added a women’s version of the Yacht-Master: the Reference 69628. It showcased an even more modest case size, measuring just 29mm.

In 1999, Rolex introduced the first major update to the Yacht-Master collection. That year, they debuted an all-new, patented combination of metals created specifically for the Yacht-Master. They called this two-tone combination of stainless steel and platinum, Rolesium . At the annual Basel World Fair, Rolex launched the material in three different sizes. These included the 40mm Reference 16622, 35mm Reference 168622, and the 29mm Reference 169622.

The next update to the Yacht-Master collection came in 2005. That year, Rolex added another two-tone variation to the line, this time in stainless steel and 18-karat yellow gold. They offered the new colorway in the 40mm Reference 16623. Two years later, Rolex made the most significant change to the Yacht-Master line with the addition of the Yacht-Master II . However, the lineage of the original Yacht-Master has continued.

Rolex Yachmaster Crown view

In 2012, Rolex released the next notable upgrade for the Yacht-Master with the Reference 116622. While the model retained its 40mm sizing, it featured an all-new “super case” with different styling. In addition, it boasted an all-platinum bezel as opposed to a combination of platinum and stainless steel. Last but not least, it came equipped with a refined version of the Oyster bracelet featuring an upgraded clasp.

Three years later, Rolex debuted another first for the brand in the Yacht-Master collection’s Reference 116655. This time, instead of a new metal, they introduced their own rigorously designed and tested variation of the rubber strap. The Oysterflex bracele t marked the first-ever rubber strap for the brand. Ever since, it’s become a staple of the Yacht-Master collection.

In the past several years, Rolex has continued to make subtle updated and additions to the Yacht-Master line. One of the latest releases is the Yacht-Master 40 with a multi-color, gem-set bezel. More recently in 2019, Rolex introduced the first 42mm time-and-date Yacht Master Reference 226659.

Deep Dive on Key Features of the Rolex Yacht-Master

For years, 40mm was the standard sizing for the Yacht-Master. The smaller, 35mm variation was the only alternative up until around 2016. Rolex has since replaced it with the 37mm iteration for a smaller option. In addition, it’s only been since 2019 that Rolex has made a larger, 42mm option available.

Rolex Yachtmaster Blue Dial

One of the most notable key features of the Rolex Yacht-Master is the bidirectional, rotatable, 60-minute graduated bezel. Its design helps skippers measure and anticipate the crucial countdown interval leading up to the start of a regatta or sailing race. The screw-down, Triplock crown is another key feature of the Rolex Yacht-Master. This water-resistant system has been a staple of the model since its inception.

With only 100 meters of water resistance, the Yacht-Master is perfect for enjoying a day on the water as opposed to scuba diving. Yet, its in-house, perpetual, mechanical, self-winding movement makes it a robust watch for any occasion. In addition, the option of Oyster bracelet or Oysterflex strap made it versatile enough to take from land to sea.

Who Wears the Rolex Yacht-Master?

The Yacht-Master is a popular choice among many of today’s top entertainers, athletes, and chefs. Some of the Yacht-Master’s famous wearers include TV personality Ellen DeGeneres and film icons like Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis . Athletes across an array of modalities also appreciate the Yacht-Master. You can find it on the wrist of star players like former pro-footballer David Beckham, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan , and former World Number One golfer Justin Thomas. Last but certainly not least, the legendary chef Emeril Lagasse is among the Yacht-Master’s celebrity fans.

Watches In The Wild The Road Through America, Episode 1: A Model Of Mass Production

At 8:30 AM last Wednesday (Geneva time), when everyone stateside was tucked into their beds, the entire set of new Rolex novelties hit the internet. We immediately turned our focus to a certain left-sided crown GMT-Master II with a green and black bezel, and the new Air-King with crown guards and professional case. But those weren't the only releases from The Crown this year. In fact, when the HODINKEE team visited the Rolex booth (I really need to stop calling these things booths) at Watches & Wonders, one collection took us all by surprise: The Yacht-Master.

Now, I don't have a complete understanding of the personal lives of my colleagues, but I think it's fair for me to say that not one of us is a competitive yachts-person and yet nearly every one of us was jazzed to handle the new 42mm Yacht-Master in yellow gold on the Oysterflex bracelet. Yellow gold has a tendency to do that.

YG Yacht-Master

In fact, this is one of the reasons I am so happy that trade shows are back and we're able to handle watches in person and report back to you, the readers, on our observations. I think it's likely that we would have overlooked this release as nothing more than a change in metal. But to my mind, this new case material results in a Yacht-Master the way it always should have been: Flashy, but no less sporty. The yellow gold execution just feels right.

Of course, that wasn't the only news to come off the yacht. We weren't able to see it, but Rolex unveiled a new white gold variant with something called a Falcon's Eye dial which looks about as cool as anything I've seen out of the "house that Wilsdorf built" in years. I'll reserve full judgment until I see it in person, though.

Falcon's Eye Yacht-Master

Yacht-Master with Falcon's Eye dial

But there was even more yacht-watch action that had the room waiting to touch and feel (I'll never stop saying that). I'm talking about the 40mm white gold Yacht-Master with diamond-set lugs, and a rotating bezel fully set with an array of colorful sapphires.

I don't want this point to be lost on anyone. The bezel has no text, numerals, or any useful markings. It's just adorned with sapphires and yet – Rolex still made it rotate. You just have to love that. It almost bears repeating the "no sapphire left unturned" joke I made in the introductory article. Well, I guess I just repeated it anyway.

Sapphire Yacht-Master on wrist

It really is interesting that the watches you think we'd scoff at in press photos are the ones we were most excited to try on in person. The sapphire YM made its way around the table multiple times, as each of us wanted a second and third time with it on the wrist. From a size perspective, I have always loved the 40mm YM , and the colorful blingy-ness of this one really makes it a larger-than-life timepiece.

But it was the YG YM that really caught my eye. Prior to W&W, we wrote an article about Rolex watches we hoped to see this year. I chose one I knew we would never see, which was a Submariner with a Yacht-Master bezel. I just love the matte-ceramic look and feel of this bezel with the tone-on-tone raised numerals. For a model range that comes predominantly in precious metals, it is interesting to see such a utilitarian, toolish look paired with gold. This is in contrast to the steel Submariner, which utilizes a shiny Cerachrom bezel.

Yellow Gold YM on wrist

On the wrist, the 42mm version wears exactly like you would expect a 42mm watch to wear. It isn't deceptively small, or overly large – but it is big. I have a six-and-a-third-inch wrist and I am not sure I could wear this one daily. Much of that has to do with the Oysterflex bracelet – and yes it is technically a bracelet and not a strap. You see, as comfortable as it is (and it's mighty comfortable), it bows out slightly and doesn't hug the wrist as tightly as a traditional bracelet does. Unfortunately, this makes a 42mm watch wear exactly as advertised, which in my case makes the watch a tad too big (though fingers crossed for a future 37mm version).

This was a bit of a bummer for me to experience in the room because as a design object, the yellow gold Yacht-Master is a total stunner. The black dial, maxi lume plots, and the date window all work to form a well-proportioned timepiece. Of course, this is a purely aesthetic update and the watch continues to feature the Superlative Chronometer-rated 3235 caliber.

Yellow Gold Yacht-Master

I really think the entire YM collection is criminally underrated by the general watch-loving public, but I also understand that price is a factor in these things, and at $28,300 the yellow gold model isn't necessarily a bargain. Of course you can always spring for the steel model with platinum bezel in 40mm sizing, but that really feels like a different watch entirely.

Yellow Gold Yacht-Master

My high-level observations of this watch are that it's a logical addition to the Yacht-Master fray. I suspect we'll see more of these in the wild than we did the white gold model because WG is a metal that flies under the radar. If you're buying gold, you want someone to know. It has the heft you want from a solid gold watch, but it's balanced by the cushioned comfort of the Oysterflex. In a world where steel Rolex sport watches are trending around the price of this model on the secondary market, is it so crazy to spring for YG and get your name on the warranty card?

Staying on course

The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 40 in Oystersteel and Everose gold with an Oyster bracelet.

Bidirectional rotatable bezel, timing the distance.

The Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel is made entirely from precious metals or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-tech ceramic. The raised polished numerals and graduations stand out clearly against a matt, sand-blasted background.

This functional bezel – which allows the wearer to calculate, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – is also a key component in the model’s distinctive visual identity.

Chocolate Dial

Exceptional legibility.

Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master 40 offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.

The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.

Everose Rolesor

A meeting of two metals.

Gold is coveted for its lustre and nobility. Steel reinforces strength and reliability. Together, they harmoniously combine the best of their properties.

A true Rolex signature, Rolesor has featured on Rolex models since the early 1930s, and was trademarked as a name in 1933. It is one of the prominent pillars of the Oyster collection.

The Oyster bracelet

Alchemy of form and function.

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex.

This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

FIFTH WRIST

Owner review: rolex yacht-master 37 268621.

Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621

The Yacht-Master line of Rolex has never been a hugely popular series from the acclaimed watch house. That is not necessarily a bad thing though. This was actually the main reason that I got attracted to the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 in the first place.

There are very few of these that you will actually see in the wild.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 has such an elegant profile, it is similar to the case of a modern Datejust and Daytona with lugs slopping down and hugging one’s wrist. So when I got a call from my Rolex authorized dealer last year (I waited for a week…. Yes you read it right, waited only for a week) I didn’t think twice and drove myself the very next day to pick it up in person.

I picked up the less popular 37mm two-tone rose gold version and I absolutely love it. The Rolex rose gold is so warm that one tends to get mesmerized by it (at least I do). The elegance of the profile, shine and tone of the rose gold and weight does not disappoint. I wear this in the office and on the beach… literally an incredibly versatile timepiece.

Rolex Yacht-Master 37

A lot of people might be wondering why I opted for the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 rather than the popular 40mm. I always prefer the more modest sized watches and thought this one was a good fit on my 6.5 inch wrist. I have a number of 40mm watches in my current collection and I thought the 37mm would be a good addition for a more “classy touch”. It is still a mystery to me why this line has not shoot up in popularity and value. Something deep inside me would prefer to keep it that way… a hidden gem that only a few know and appreciate!

Yacht-Master 40 Rosegold - question in comments. So I went to a RedBar meet up last night and got to try on this 40mm rosegold YM and I was blown away. I don't like rubber straps and so never really considered any of the models with Oysterflex, but man this was comfy and the fit was perfect for my wrist. Now I can't stop thinking about it.

  13. The Rolex Yacht-Master Is Now Cooler Than Ever

Danny Milton. April 11, 2022. 0. At 8:30 AM last Wednesday (Geneva time), when everyone stateside was tucked into their beds, the entire set of new Rolex novelties hit the internet. 15. Owner Review: Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622

Before we get to my Rolex Yacht-Master 40 126622 review, we need some background. In 1992 Rolex introduced a watch that shared the silhouette of their beloved Submariner but in solid 18k yellow gold, embossed YG bezel insert soldered to the bezel, funky white dial, and the unusual name "Yacht-Master" written where "Submariner" would normally live.

  16. Owner review: Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621

The elegance of the profile, shine and tone of the rose gold and weight does not disappoint. I wear this in the office and on the beach… literally an incredibly versatile timepiece. A lot of people might be wondering why I opted for the Rolex Yacht-Master 37 268621 rather than the popular 40mm.

  17. Any owners of the Rose Gold Yacht-Master on Oysterflex? : r/rolex

I own the 40 and it's one of my favorites. I have an average size wrist 6.75" and all of my Rolex are 40s. Actually my wife wants the 37 although I truly think it depends on your wrist size. I got it from my AD last February after about a 2 month wait, however I do have a strong relationship with them. Good luck!
