How to Get There

The island is served by an international airport, located in bustling Charlotte Amalie. Cyril E. King Airport offers nonstop flights to East Coast hubs in the U.S., including New York, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, and Charlotte. Flights are also available to other Caribbean destinations.

Ferry service is also available between St. Thomas and St. Croix, or between St. Thomas and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

Named after the Queen of Denmark in 1692, in the heart of St Thomas you will find Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the US Virgin Islands. Most recently Frenchtown has become a culinary destination offering an extraordinary range of divine eateries and wine bars.

If seeking more seclusion and a relaxed atmosphere, let Red Hook located on the east end of St. Thomas, become your playground. Overlooking Pillsbury Sound and St. John, the serene town runs at a slower pace of life and offers a more intimate glimpse into the island’s culture. Conditions for watersports are ideal here with great spots for playing in the surf and lounging in the sun.

The sandy shorelines of St. Thomas are simply spectacular, boasting of over 20 stunning beaches to enjoy and endless options for spending your time snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, swimming or simply lounging in the sun or shade. The most frequented and picturesque beach on the island is the heart-shaped Magen’s Bay, located on the north side of St. Thomas. For a thrilling aquatic adventure nothing compares to Coral World Ocean Park, located next to Coki Beach which offers the rare and exciting opportunity to swim with sea lions. To really get your blood pumping, make a stop at Tree Limin’ Extreme where you can soar high in the air above acres of jungle and terraced gardens from their six ziplines. A more subdued option that also affords spectacular views of the island is the St. Thomas Skyride which climbs 700 feet above Charlotte Amelie to Paradise Point. Another prime example of the bountiful beauty of St. Thomas can be found at St. Peter Mountain Greathouse & Botanical Gardens. For those that want to delve into the rich past of the island make sure to include visits to Fort Christian, a 17th century national historic landmark and the Emancipation Garden, a park commemorating the freeing of the island’s slaves. An experience you will not want to miss is the climb up the vine covered 99 Steps (in reality there are 103) leading up to the tower at Blackbeard’s Castle. Built in 1679 by the Danes as a watchtower to protect Charlotte Amalie from the French settlers of St. Croix, venturing to the top you will be rewarded with amazing views of the harbor below.

Captain Kyle and Henry were fabulous! This activity made an incredible vacation fabulous! Kyle and Henry made everyone comfortable and make the trip fun. Kyle even gave us some history of the landmarks we saw. I would recommend Kyle and Henry and this boat ride as a must do!

This day was great and so was the boat and the captain. We had our family of 4 and we went out with Brian for a full day around St John. We had such a great time and he was the nicest person and so easy to talk to. He also knew alot about the island and its history. He also made the best rum punch. (best we had while on the island for a week) BEST DAY WE HAD ON VACAY. Highly recommend this company for your boat day needs and ask for Brian.

What a great time we had. Wedding went well, and the snorkeling at water island. They took us where we saw sea turtles and stingrays. The captain and Rachel we such great hosts, so attentive and just so nice. We all enjoyed our half day tour. Can’t say enough good things about them!

We spent half day celebrating our friends one-year Wedding Anniversary on Pisces catamaran! It was such an amazing time; Captain Connor and his first mate Chelsea were excellent! It was tranquil and quite relaxing; I will certainly use them again when ever my family and friends visit us in St. Thomas! I will also recommend Seas the Day Charters and Tours to my Airbnb guests!

What an incredible day!! Captan Bryan is amazing and probably the best captain we’ve ever had! He listened to basically what we wanted to do and then crafted the itinerary to perfection. We circumnavigated St. John and he took us to some of the most beautiful spots for snorkeling and just relaxing in the water. His superb timing got us to Lime Out for lunch at JUST the right time to secure us the best Lilly pad in the house! He was personal and informative and took the trip (which would have been great by itself) to the next level. Highly recommend!!

We had an absolutely fabulous day with Glenn! Truly, it could not have been better! Glenn is a very experienced sailor and very knowledgeable about the Caribbean. He is also a great guy and we all thoroughly enjoyed hanging with him for the day. We snorkeled at several great spots in the BVI, visited Willie T's and Soggy Dollar.

Whenever we visit St John "Boat Day" is always everyone's favorite day of the the vacation. This year was fabulous! We are a 3 generation family of 11 with six kids ages 9 and under. Captain Alex and First mate Aaron found out exactly what we like to do and they made it happen. The snorkeling was amazing, lunch from the pizza boat was delicious and fun and the time out on the water all day cannot be beat. Thank you Seas the Day and especially to Alex and Aaron. Our day really could not have been better!!!

An amazing experience to St. John! We went to snorkel at 2 different places that were both beautiful! Captain Greg and Coleman were amazing and so nice. They answered all of our many questions about the island and gave us the best information. They were so knowledgeable! We never felt rushed and we felt like they wanted to give us the best experience possible. The boat was so clean and the snorkeling gear was great. Very professional. This is the charter to book!

There are no words to express how wonderful everything was. To begin, the crew was adorable. They were very discreet, which is very important, they were not often seen. Very polite and proper, but the best was their desire to please. The comfort of the boat was amazing. I have chartered many times and had never seen such spacious bathrooms. I loved it, closets and everything. There is different spaces to be in and people can relax alone which is most necessary. The only thing I would criticise is that there is no good area to sun bathe, the upper part with the spa pool is not very practical, but other than that everything was amazing. It was an amazing vacation and I thank you for that because you had a lot to do with it. We are both very grateful for all that you did. We shall be in touch for sure. Virgin Islands Yacht Charters directly manages the charter fleet.  We are not a broker.  We do work with many reputable and trustworthy charter brokers who regularly book our boats and are familiar with our procedures and knowledgeable of the local cruising grounds.  At the same time, there are many brokers out there who know absolutely nothing about our fleet OR even the Virgin Islands themselves.  Please be aware. 

Catamarans are wonderfully spacious and provide ample area for moving around.  Whether it is in the cockpit or salon which spans over both hulls allowing for a larger area inside, the foredeck with the trampoline  for sun-tanning, or the great lounging area on the top deck you will enjoy the variety of ways to spend your day on the water.  Cats are much more stable than their counterparts which can be much better for new or inexperienced sailors who haven't quite found their sea legs yet or those who are prone to seasickness.   Two engines allow for greater maneuverability when in a marina or picking up mooring balls and thus, have gained popularity in recent years.  And, you will love the panoramic views!

Guide to St Thomas

A shopper’s paradise steeped in history

Home to almost half the population of the US Virgin Islands , and the location of the territory’s capital, Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas is known for its stunning sandy beaches and for its diving and duty-free shopping opportunities.

St Thomas is a busy and cosmopolitan island, which attracts large numbers of yacht visitors throughout the year, drawn here by the natural beauty of its sandy shores and crystal-clear waters, to enjoy the wide range of outdoor activities on offer and to take advantage of some of the best duty-free shopping in the Caribbean .

The capital, Charlotte Amalie, is often the first port of call for those visiting the US Virgin Islands, and its award-winning, full-service marina can accommodate yachts of up to 200m in length. Founded in 1672, the town is one of the busiest cruise ship ports in the Caribbean, but has retained much of its historic character and is known for its Danish colonial architecture, including the 17th century Fort Christian, which is now a museum, and Blackbeard’s Castle, a watchtower dating from the same period.

Charlotte Amalie is a popular duty-free shopping destination, with high-end boutiques lining the pedestrian streets near the waterfront. Jewellery shops are especially prevalent, while watches, leather goods, alcohol, designer clothes and artworks are also available at tax-free prices. You will find more outlets at the Yacht Haven Grande marina complex. 

If you’re coming ashore for lunch, there are plenty of restaurants in Charlotte Amalie serving Caribbean and American cuisine, as well as some excellent seafood restaurants in Frenchtown, just west of the capital. 

St Thomas is fringed with spectacular sandy beaches if you’re looking to simply relax, enjoy the views and go for a swim in the clear blue waters of the Caribbean. Magens Bay Beach, a picturesque stretch of white sand on the north coast, is among the most celebrated in the whole Virgin Island archipelago, while for a quieter, more secluded spot, try Brewers Bay Beach, on the south coast.

St Thomas is a particularly attractive destination for snorkelers, with a number of interesting sites to explore around the coast. One of the best is Coki Point Beach, in the northeast of the island, where the rich coral reefs provide a habitat for numerous fish species. Nearby is the Undersea Observatory Tower, belonging to Coral World Ocean Park, which allows you to view the reef 4.5m below the surface of the sea without getting wet. 

Novice scuba divers will also enjoy the reefs off Coki Point Beach, at a depth of 15m, while more experienced divers can head across the bay to the north coast of Thatch Cay, to discover deeper coral fields, sponges and dramatic drop-offs. The Cow and Calf Rocks, off the southeast coast of St Thomas, is another popular site for both snorkelling and diving, with a network of coral tunnels, ridges and canyons to explore.

There’s plenty to see inland, too, with a number of hiking trails crossing the island, taking in historical sites such as the ruins of the 17th century Neltjeberg sugar plantation, and for the ultimate adrenalin rush, take a turn on the Zipline through the lush rainforest on St Peter’s Mountain.

The Caribbean’s Must-Visit Yacht Show Is Coming to St Thomas 

The Virgin Islands Boating Expo will take place May 10-12, 2024 at Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas, the USVI’s top yachting destination.

This boutique destination show, hosted by the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association, ticks the top three boxes of what yacht buyers today want in a yacht sales experience: the ability to yacht shop, wine and dine, and stay and play — making for a unique kind of boat show-meets-food-festival event.

“We welcome our attendees, both the public and those flying into our award-winning destination, to visit with yacht dealers, manufacturers, exhibitors, and our local and global vendors,” said Joseph Boschulte, USVI Commissioner of Tourism. “Experience the best of what the U.S. Virgin Islands offers on land and sea and shop for a yacht while you’re here.”

Yacht shoppers can take advantage of duty-free tax benefits when buying in the USVI.  

It’s another major event for the Yacht Haven Grande Marina, which saw a major boom during the pandemic and continues to be a premier yachting jump-off point in the broader region.

The Government of the Virgin Islands also supports infrastructure on shore to maintain charter business interests such as an Economic Development Commission Tax Incentive Program for charter yachts. 

Charter company professionals, financial companies and Marine Expo vendors with global and local products will be on hand to talk about charter management opportunities in the USVI.

The latest models of top brands will be on site, including Bali, Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Leopard, McConaghy, Azimut and Boston Whaler, to name a few. 

Yacht buyers benefit from St. Thomas as a hub destination for transport ships delivering yachts from foreign manufacturing facilities. 

Attendees can walk the docks, tour the yachts, meet the professional crew and receive a fully immersive experience on board, with the opportunity to test-sail directly from the show berth through the scenic Charlotte Amalie harbor to world-class cruising grounds.

Daily yacht viewings combine with live music and cultural performances, starting with the Exhibitor’s Opening Ceremony & Reception on May 9, from 5-7 p.m.

VIBE and Cutlass & Cane, Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas’ newest restaurant, have partnered to produce a curated Food & Wine Experience, with lunch served daily from 12-3 p.m. including wine pairings. 

Yacht Haven Grande is also home to Blue 11, which has been featured in the 50 Best Restaurants in the Caribbean ranking.

All attendees can also visit a variety of pop-up bars featuring many beverages distributed by West Indies Company, including St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands-made Mutiny Island Vodka, the world’s first and finest Island Vodka made from breadfruit and Caribbean rainwater and St. Thomas-crafted Leatherback Brewing Company’s products, which offers craft beer made with Caribbean-grown ingredients.
