6 September 2023 – Torquay, UK  – From Wednesday 6 September the International Dragon Fleet will begin arriving in Torquay for the Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup 2023. Hosted by the Royal Torbay Yacht Club (RTYC), the regatta will officially begin with an Opening Ceremony on the Harbourside at 18:00 on Saturday 9 September followed by a Welcome Reception at the RTYC. Championship racing will run from Sunday 10 to Friday 15 September.

With 50 teams from across Europe, Asia, and Australasia and some of the top Dragon sailors in the World competing, the event will follow the traditional and infamously challenging Gold Cup format of six days racing with one single long windward leeward race each day and all races to count.

The Dragon Gold Cup is one of the most famous trophies in yachting and is raced for annually at venues across Europe. Quoting from the original 1937 Gold Cup Rules created by the Clyde Yacht Club’s Conference when they presented the Gold Cup, the intention of the competition is to “bring together as many competitors of different nationalities as possible in a friendly spirit”. With 14 countries from 3 continents represented and full professional to all family crews racing, this edition most certainly meets that criterion.

Torquay is a popular venue with superb racing waters, a welcoming and very experienced host club, and all the delights of the English Riviera. On behalf of the RTYC, Commodore James Clapham looks forward to welcoming the sailors; “We are delighted that the Dragon Gold Cup is returning to Torquay. Our club’s association with the class goes right back to the early days of Dragons in the UK and includes hosting the sailing for the 1948 Olympics, in which the Dragon featured, the Gold Cup in 1995 and the Edinburgh Cup no less than ten times between 1952 and 2018. Our volunteer team has been working for over two years to prepare the event and we are excited that those plans are finally coming to fruition. Torbay offers outstanding racing, our race committee is well practised, and we are looking forward to working with Race Officer Stuart Childerley, who knows our waters well. Our hospitality, bar and restaurant teams are also at the ready to ensure the event is one that everyone will remember both afloat and ashore.”

With a host of top names participating competition will be fierce. Fresh from victory at the recent 75 th  Dragon Edinburgh Cup comes British Olympian and America’s Cup veteran Lawrie Smith sailing Alfie for Glandore Yacht Club. Smith will be joined by his fellow Edinburgh Cup podium finishers, four-time World Match Racing Champion and Australian sailing legend Peter Gilmour of the Yanmar Racing Team, and Grant Gordon’s Louise Racing Team sailing for the Royal Yacht Squadron.

Reigning World and European Champion Wolf Waschkuhn will be hoping to achieve the elusive treble of holding the World, European and the Gold Cup trophies at the same time. Other big names to watch out for include three-time Dragon World Champion Andy Beadsworth, sailing the Turkish Provezza Dragon, who took the silver medal at last year’s Gold Cup; 2019 Gold Cup winner Pedro Andrade from Portugal; and 2017 champion Stephan Link from Germany.

WorldLeisurewear.com has been appointed as the event’s official apparel supplier and is offering a range of technical and leisure clothing carrying the event logo, which can also be customised to include individual boat names, etc.

A good social programme is an integral part of a successful Gold Cup and with post racing hospitality each evening, a BBQ hosted by the British Dragon Association, the Yanmar Gala Dinner and the Prize Giving to look forward to competitors can expect a great time both afloat and ashore.

TNG Swiss Watches has been appointed as the event’s official timekeeper and has created a limited-edition range of three Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup 2023 Sailmaster in orange, black and navy which are available to competitors at a specially discounted price. The event is also being supported by a number of Official Suppliers including Salcombe Brewery, Plymouth Gin, Havana Rum and Tolchards Drinks.

Registration and launching for the Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup 2023 will take place from Thursday 7 September to Saturday 9 September, with a practice race scheduled for the Saturday. Gold Cup championship racing will run from Sunday 10 to Friday 15 September with a total of six races scheduled.

our 2018-19 events were held at Royal Torbay Yacht Club. 2020-21 saw a hiatus and a re-focussing on what's important - accessible, quality music in a good acoustic!  Our 2022 events were at Torquay Rugby Club and Hamilton's Club in  Babbacombe :

2023 saw us move again showing jazz clubs need to be nimble and resilient and we hope our audience keeps the faith. olly syrus quartet 12 apr 2022 @ tarfc pete canter 3rd may 2022 @ tarfc annika skoogh 7th june 2022 @ tarfc  jesse molins 24 june '22 @ hamilton's   terry quinney 21st july  '22 @ hamilton's louise parker & lateral flow 26th august 2022 2 @ hamilton's martin dale 30th sept  2022 @ hamilton's gareth lockrane 28th oct @ tarfc in june, fresh from a tour incorporating ronnie scott's, we had jesse molins's guitar in duo with tom ball on piano. in july, award winning canadian saxophonist terry quinney joined us with his quartet. and in august soulful vocalist louise parker sang with kent-based, horn-heavy quintet  lateral flow . 30th september saw sax supremo martin dale head on over from his plymouth base to show us how it's done.   and 28th october brought london-based superstar flautist, gareth lockrane, to torquay for the very first time - hot off the tv and this year's aretha franklin prom concert gareth blew our socks off and was immediately rebooked for 2023. he is a multi-award winning composer and band leader (like the mobo award for best album) and his incredible facility on all the flutes has to be seen to be believed. 18th november: maestro andy panayi, professor of jazz, saxophones and flute. december brought us the lovely annika skoogh with some chrustams songs mixed in. january saw a debut for marvin muoneke and  with respect to nat and their nat king cole homage - they went down a storm and will be back. february was the turn of derek nash with the martin dale quartet for our best ever attneded gig -and last ever at hamilton's sadly march sees us return to the rugby club with sam massey, jesse molins and coach york for some trumpet / organ based groove and april will be the debut at gresham court's luscious art deco bar with cocktails on special. for future shows, please  book online   ...or take your chances on the door . .

For our 15TH February 2019 Event with Great Pleasure  we Welcomed 

an AMAZING Jazz Funk Collective led by TALENTED Saxophonist Neil Maya, also featuring Jesse Molins on guitar

Neil relocated to Totnes over a decade ago and, since then, has forged a reputation as a fearsome improviser and a bandleader whom other musicians love to follow.

A regular at the Teignmouth Jazz  Festival, and at all the jazz clubs in the South West, h e has earned a loyal following through his consistent dedication and ability to entertain an audience. 

Neil is an innovator and, alongside his original compositions, has sculpted his quartet into a credible tribute to Dave Brubeck's band, and latterly to celebrate a key year in jazz, the 1959 project. 

For Friday night at Liquid Spirit, Neil and long time collaborator Jesse Molins have put together a jazz funk set sure to delight and get the feet moving!

Neil is in demand all over the South West as a saxophonist, band leader and composer. He conceived the Dave Brubeck project and the 1959 project, and runs a pop function band, Solar.

The moorings within the Moscow Ring Road allow regular sailing even for those who, due to high employment, cannot often travel out of town

Passenger river transportation is being actively revived in Moscow. Already in June, for the first time in 17 years, the authorities promise to launch river buses. Maybe that's why the idea of ​​owning a yacht is increasingly coming up among wealthy Muscovites, and there are more and more yachtsmen who would like to live close to the place of attraction of like-minded people. Next to the yacht clubs there are 21 projects in the primary market of Moscow. More than half of these projects are premium. The experts of the Elitnoye.ru portal, using the data of the Metrium company, decided to talk about the leading metropolitan centers of yachting and tourism, as well as about the premium-class complexes adjacent to them.

Dream Island Marina on the Nagatinsky Peninsula

Dream Island Marina is located on the Nagatinsky Peninsula, in the harbor of the Northern Landscape Park of the Dream Island entertainment center. This is the only modern yacht club (opened in 2021) in the central part of the capital's water area. Moreover, its port stands at the source of a large-scale deep-sea system of the European part of Russia, which unites the whole country. The club has two berths with a capacity of up to 40 seats. The water area is designed for boats and yachts of any size. There is a school of navigators, which teaches how to operate a small vessel. You can rent catamarans, boats and yachts. A restaurant with a grill area is open. Nearby is Dream Island Wake Park, where you can go water skiing and wake surfing.

The closest new building to Dream Island Marina is the Dream Towers residential complex (pictured). Apartments in the project cost 484.2 thousand rubles on average per sq. m. meter. The houses are planned to be put into operation in the next month.

Moscow Imperial River Yacht Club on Balchug Island

The Moscow Imperial River Yacht Club is located in the center, next to the monument to Peter the Great on Balchug Island. The founders of the yacht club restored an old building on the banks of the Moscow River. Today it hosts social events. The development of the club mainly depends on the implementation of the new quarter “Red October”, adjacent to the water. The developer of the project – Guta Development – is going to restore the berths for ships and river taxis.

Not far from the yacht club, sales are carried out in four projects: Residences Zamoskvorechye, Sky House, Golutvinsky, 10 and Vernissage. In “Residences Zamoskvorechye” “square” will cost an average of 517.1 thousand rubles, in Sky House – 401.5 thousand rubles. Both complexes have already been put into operation. In “Golutvinsky, 10” the average price per square meter. meters is 1.3 million rubles. Keys have to wait until the end of the year. In Vernissage, a “square” costs 634.2 thousand rubles. The house will be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

Berth of the Moscow City business center

Estate Park on Serebryany Bor Island

Manor Park is the largest yacht club on Serebryany Bor Island. The yacht port has a berth designed for 36 vessels up to 15 meters long. Rowing boat rental, boating and jet skiing, on the “banana” are available. The pier is combined with the Manor restaurant.

The nearest complexes are Capital Coast and Wellton Spa Residence. In the already finished project “Coast of the Capital” sq. meter is estimated by the developer at an average of 767.6 thousand rubles. In Wellton Spa Residence, the average “square” costs 481 thousand rubles. The project is going to go live in about a month.

Radisson Royal Moscow flotilla near Ukraine Hotel

The Radisson Royal Moscow flotilla is a transport company, and its largest berth is located on the embankment near the Ukraine Hotel. River trams, yachts and motor ships constantly start from here. You can rent the ships of the flotilla, but you won’t be able to rent a place for your own yacht on this pier.

Less than a kilometer from the base of the Radisson Royal Moscow flotilla, the Badaevsky complex is being built. You can buy an apartment here for an average of 1 million rubles per sq. meter. The project will be commissioned at the end of 2025.
