1988 J Boats j-28 The J-28 is a well built, performance sailboat that is fast, easy to handle and looks good both on the race course or cruising on a quiet bay for the weekend. Her comfortable layout  includes berths for 4 (with private stateroom forward), and an enclosed head with shower. Six opening ports provide ventilation and light throughout the cabin and three opening hatches give cross ventilation.  The boat has been very well kept by a knowlegable yachtsman and can be seen by appointment.

It has a Yanmar Diesel engine, Tick Tack mast mounted knot and depth instruments, and VHF radio. Boat has manual marine head, roller furling, stove and oven. Bottom painted in 2011 with Pettit Vivid Black. Top sides were painted with Awl Grip in 2004 with Jade Mist Green paint. Has 155% genoa, 130% genoa, main, and spinnaker. The hull was laid in 1998 by the original Rampage company then the sold to KCS International when they acquired Rampage shortly after that. She was then finished in 2002 and the present owner bought her in 2002 and then she was commissioned and launched in 2003. Great sailing boat. The J28 is a very comfortable easy to sail boat that still has the J performance but in a cruiser package. Arguably one of the best all around 28 foot sail boats ever built. She had bottom paint and new thru hulls & seacocks done in spring of 2022 along with many other updates done in 2022. She is a truly turn key boat. The engine was replaced in the early 2000’s with a new not rebuilt Yanmar which has seen very little use since then.

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
