The Practicals of Bareboat Charters in Greece

If you are looking to rent a bareboat in Greece then either you or one of your group is an experienced sailor holding a valid sailing license . In Greece, authorities require a minimum of one captain with a sailing license/certification and one experienced crew member as co-skipper for bareboat charters.

As a rule, ASA & RYA Certifications are recognised but Day Skipper certificates may sometimes be rejected by Port Authorities. To be on the safe side, if this is your first time chartering in Greece, please contact us so we can evaluate your license and answer any questions you may have.

Our bareboat fleet includes brand new models of popular sailing yachts and catamarans available from any of our 11 charter bases throughout Greece.

Our Charter Bases in Greece

We offer bareboat charters from all of our eleven charter bases in Greece . Specific models available at each base vary, but you will find a suitable yacht or catamran no matter where you are planning on sailing from.

Which base is best for you usually depends on the flights available from the country you are coming from and which area of Greece you will be arriving to.

For those flying into Athens , we have our main fleet in Alimos Marina and a second base in Lavrion which is just half an hour from the airport. Alimos is a gateway to the Argo Saronic islands and the Peloponnese mainland ports while both are good options for visiting the Cyclades .

For those looking at charter flights to the western Ionion islands we have bases in Corfu , Lefkas and Preveza .

Visitors to looking to explore the Dodecanese can find us at our very first charter base opened in 1992 on the island of Kos , and our more recent addition on the island of Rhodes .

Last but not least for those of you looking to fly into Skiathos and explore the Sporades we have a main base in Skiathos Port and also in the nearby mainland city of Volos which is often convenient for our guests travelling to Greece by road.

Bareboat Charters - Frequently Asked Questions

Most of our sailing yachts and catamarans may be rented as "bareboats", in other words they are offered for private charters with no skipper or crew. To hire a bareboat you and/or someone in your party need the appropriate qualifications and are responsible for the navigation and handling of the yacht. Most bareboat yachts can accommodate up to 10 or 12 persons. The "per person" cost of a bareboat charter is usually at or below the cost of a resort vacation, without the crowds!

The Greek Authorities require a minimum of one sailing license/certification and one experienced crew member as co-skipper for bareboat charters. Typically, ASA & RYA Certifications are recognised but Day Skipper certificates (and/or those facing nautical miles’ restrictions) may sometimes be rejected by Port Authorities. To be on the safe side, please contact us so we can evaluate your license and let you know if you’re good to go!

Please note that you will be required to have your original sailing license at the charter base upon embarkation for checks performed on the spot by the Port Authorities. You should also have a copy of your license for Istion records and to ensure there are no problems if license is somehow misplaced during your holiday!

That depends on you! Istion's experts are always happy to recommend the best choice for your needs. Your sailing holiday can be tailored to fit your party and your preferences. Usually, details such as how many people are you are sailing with and if there are couples traveling together or single guests who require private cabins will determine the type and size of boat we recommend. Each yacht is registered for a maximum number of people on board. We have a wide selection of yachts suitable for smaller and larger groups, simply contact us for our recommendations based on how many people will be in your party!

Please note that regardless of the yacht’s size, the number of passengers allowed must not exceed 12. A pleasure craft in Greece that carries more than 12 people is considered a ‘passenger ship’ and must comply with different safety regulations which are not compatible with bareboat charters.

Our bareboat charters are usually offered Saturday to Saturday. Depending on the yacht’s booking plan however, there may be a chance we could accommodate other embarking/disembarking dates, so feel free to ask!

Our bareboat charters start on Saturday at 17:00. In some cases a fast track process is available for an additional fee. If it is available, fast tracking allows you to check in at 14:00. If you wish to start your charter earlier than 17:00 please notify us so we can advise on availability.

Charters end on Saturday at 09:00 (disembarkation from the boat). You will need to be back at your designated finishing base by Friday at 18:00.

The price includes the use of the yacht and its equipment (as per each yacht's inventory list), marine insurance, all taxes & currently applicable VAT. The price does not include any running expenses necessary for operating the yacht (i.e. fuel, fresh water consumption, travel insurance, trip cancellation or curtailment insurance, food and drinks, port fees if any, etc.) nor any of your personal expenses.

All of our charter bases throughout Greece are located at main marinas or ports that have nearby shops where you can find everything you need. Upon your arrival, our base staff will advise you on the nearest supermarket for provisioning in the local area. Alternatively you may ask us for our provisioning list in which you can specify the supplies and quantities you require and we can arrange for delivery to your yacht so you are ready to set sail as soon as possible!

The key for sailing charters is simplicity and a minimum of unneeded extras. Casual and breezy beach attire is certainly the order of the day on deck, though for evenings ashore, slacks or a sundress are more appropriate. Rubber soled shoes as opposed to hard soles are recommended aboard our yachts, so bring boat shoes or tennis shoes. For cool or windy evenings, a windbreaker comes in handy and depending on the time of year you are sailing a long sleeved shirt or two just in case you feel chilly is a good idea.

Above all, protection from the sun is vital – lots of suntan lotion, wide-brimmed hats or sailing caps, and loose-fitting cotton cover-ups. Don't forget to pack it all in soft-shell baggage for easy onboard storage.

During check-in, you will meet our base team who will conduct the yacht familiarisation briefing and join you in thoroughly inspecting the yacht so as to have an overview on all the yacht's systems and safety equipment on board. Our base team will also go over any details of your planned route with you and advise you on expected weather conditions during your charter.

Check-out is similar in the sense that here too our base staff will inspect the yacht and you will sign the handover papers. This is also a good time for you to share your feedback and any comments you may have regarding the yacht & your overall sailing experience.

For any technical issue on board, you may call our Base Manager (contact details provided in our Base Information file) and he will immediately advise you. Furthermore, our technical team operates on a 24/7 basis in order to provide our clients with quick & professional assistance whenever and wherever needed.

Kindly be advised that all our yachts are comprehensively insured against damage to the hull, machinery and/or equipment including third party cover, beyond a deductible excess figure, which is boat’s security deposit.

The security deposit is a refundable deposit used to cover the insurance deductible of any ONE insurable event (damage or loss). This means that should an incident occur, in order to be covered against a 2nd incident, the charterer must replenish the security deposit to the initial amount.

The value of the security deposit varies depending on the size of the yacht or catamaran you are renting. If no insurable event occurs during your sailing holiday, the deposit is returned.

The security deposit covers damage per insurable event that will be covered by the amount of the refundable figure (i.e. EUR 3000 for a Lagoon 42) even if the cost for the damage is higher.

The only possibility of exceeding the refundable figure is with the loss or damage of the auxiliary equipment of the vessel, such as damage or loss of the outboard motor or dinghy. For such, you (the client) would need to cover the cost of the reparation and/or replacement of the auxiliary equipment in full.

For skippered charters, If the damage is caused by the skipper, then the skipper is responsible, on the other hand you (the customer) are responsible for your actions and any damage caused by your actions onboard.

Yes! When chartering with Istion Yachting we offer the option to reduce the boat’s security deposit by choosing the security reduction which consists of two figures (amounts depend on yacht’s size as per our Bareboat Price List). SECURITY REDUCTION (NON-REFUNDABLE & REFUNDABLE FIGURES)

Security Deposit reduction: • Yachts up to 44 ft: €300/week plus refundable security deposit €500 • Yachts from 45 ft and up to 50 ft: €350 / week plus refundable security deposit €600 • Yachts from 51 ft up to 54 ft: €400/week plus refundable deposit €700 • Yachts from 55 ft: €500/week plus refundable deposit €1.000 • All catamarans up to 41 ft: €400/week plus refundable deposit €700 • All catamarans from 42 ft & up to 45 ft: €500/week plus refundable deposit €800 • All catamarans from 46 ft: €600/week plus refundable deposit €1.000

The security deposit reduction is mandatory in case of a skippered charter. For all skippered charters: €350 plus refundable security deposit €700. Not available for regattas & races.

For any technical issue on board, you may call our Base Manager (contact details provided in our Base Information file available during check-in) and he will immediately advise you. Furthermore, our technical team operates on a 24/7 basis in order to provide our clients with quick & professional assistance when needed.

Wherever you choose to sail on your yachting vacation around Greece, you'll encounter any number of sandy coves and beaches to enjoy, wonderful sites of antiquity to discover, and inviting towns and settlements where cultures are maintained and the hospitality just great! Every place you visit is unique, every settlement has its own story to tell. Turn the page and set your course, for the ultimate holiday experience sailing Greece and its famous islands.

This Famous Place of Antiquity: Imagine it, Experience it

Greece: it captures the sailor's imagination. Once you've experienced these ancient lands from your charter sailboat, you're sure to be drawn back for a new Greek Island experience. With regional variations east and west of the mainland there's sailing nine months of the year, so time is on your side. Discuss with us what each Greek sailing area has in store, let us sort through the myriad of boat and operator options, and we'll present a personalised proposal that's just right for you.

With all the choices you have for chartering a boat in Greece, it's important to do research and take advice. We know Greek sailing well, and our team is equipped to tailor-make your yacht charter, whether it's your first bareboat experience or you are a seasoned crew.

In Greece you have a choice of five unique charter areas, all full of places of extreme beauty, numerous islands, beautiful sandy beaches, traditional harbours and small ports. Every place you sail in Greece is unique, every port of call is different from the rest.

Climate in Greece

The weather in Greece is suitable for sailing from March through to November, with the best months for charter being from June to September. In July and August it can get very hot, often with temperatures in the high 30’s. This is of course peak European holiday season, when marinas are more crowded and newer charter yachts are often booked a year ahead. Some local areas have seasonal winds that are best avoided. For instance the Meltemi that blows in the Cyclades in July and August can be a little fresh for some.

Here's a snapshot of wind and sailing conditions that generally prevail in the five main Greek Island charter areas:

The Saronic, Argolic & Peloponnese Area

The Saronic, Argolic and eastern coast of the Peloponnese is a well-protected cruising area that's ideal for relaxed sailing. Winds are normally gentle, averaging force 3 – 4 and usually from the north to northeast direction. In the Argolic Gulf, the summer wind is mostly from the southeast and blows at the average of force 3 - 5. During spring and autumn the winds are normally weaker, and blow from the south over the whole area.

The Cyclades Islands

This region's prevailing summer wind is the Meltemi, which blows from the north. The Meltemi peaks in July and August at force 5 - 7 and may occasionally reach force 9. It can last for several days. During spring and autumn, you may also find winds blowing from the south.

The Dodecanese

The Meltemi also affects this area, blowing from a northwesterly direction at force 4 – 6. In spring and autumn the wind is not as strong, blowing from the southeast.

The Sporades

Also in the path of the Meltemi, which comes generally from the northeast at force 3 - 5. Occasionally in July and August there can be stronger winds from the northwest at force 4 - 6. By the end of September the winds are usually lighter again.

The Ionian Islands

The wind and sailing conditions in the Ionian Sea are predictable, making these great sailing waters. From May to September the wind blows from the northwest at force 2 - 5, mostly in the afternoon. In spring and autumn the wind is not as strong, and blows usually from the southwest. Expect to use your motor a lot in the Ionian Islands.

Our Greek Boat Charter Services

In the Mediterranean there's a wide choice of charter operators, and it's very important that you sail with a reputable company. In our three decades-plus in the charter business we have developed a network of only the best operators - people we know we can rely on to take care of you. We'll identify the right yacht to match your budget, level of comfort and boat-handling experience.

Our team travels to destinations worldwide to inspect boats for charter, and to get first-hand experience of the cruising grounds we market. We offer local knowledge ,sailing itineraries that suit your pace, and onshore connections that ensure everything runs smoothly and you get the most from your holiday. When we help you organise your charter in Greece or anywhere else, you pay no more for our service.

For sailing Greek waters, arranging a bareboat charter is quite straightforward for the suitably-able sailor. Or we can arrange a skipper, who will take responsibility for your yacht and provide your meals. You can even take a cook along if you're looking for the ultimate luxury sailing holiday. Even experienced sailors often prefer to hire a crew, carefully chosen by us in consultation with our operators, who not only take care of the work but are your in-house local guides. It's fun to live like the locals for a bit: dining and shopping as they do, being entertained as they are. Often it's only with the help of your knowledgeable crew that such unique cultural connections arise.

Navigation and Sailing Licences

A sailing license (usually a formal certificate at any level will do) and a VHF operator’s license are compulsory requirements of bareboat yacht charters in Greece. We help you work through all that, seeking prior approval of your documentation before you travel to avoid any last-minute headaches. During your charter you must carry the original documents on board, in case of inspection by the local port authority.

Our client reviews about charter sailing in Greece

.carousel-cell { width: 50%; /* full width */ } .sc-carousel, section .sc-carousel { margin-top: 0; } Rating: 5 / 5 The Lagoon 46 was the best catamaran we have chartered. There was plenty of deck and seating space and all the bedrooms/ensuites were a good size. Preveza was a great starting point and we enjoyed travelling south to Ithaki and north to Paxi. Kalamos was a highlight we tied up to a pier next to a taverna for the night and it was a lovely spot. We had very good service from Robert and Sue at Yachting Holidays and dealing with an NZ company gave us peace of mind. The service from Fyly in Greece was also excellent. We really appreciated being able to board the boat early and our skipper was also very friendly and easy to get along with. Our skipper Adrian Dimitru was keen to get away on Saturday afternoon so we headed south and got a day ahead which was great. .he cruise was excellent and Adrian got us to some of his favourite spots so we were very lucky. Ithaki not to be missed. Craig, New Zealand, Oct 18th, 2023
Rating: 5 / 5 Dear Sue, we would like to thank you and Robert for all the work you put in to make our charter run so smoothly from your end. We absolutely loved the Greek Islands, they were everything we had ever imagined. Jill and Pip, New Zealand , Oct 9th, 2019
Good breezes that provided just the right level of challenge. Not super crowded - no troubles berthing / mooring / eating / etc. Fairly chilled - at least compared to Croatia. Patmos was very good. John, Australia, Aug 17th, 2019
Had a great time. The wind was terrific - good fun, but nothing too hairy - exactly what we were looking for to take it up a notch or two from Croatia last year. And the Dodecanese were really good - nice ports, not too crowded (esp compared to Croatia) - just felt a bit more out of the way. DYC were fine - a little bit more on the 'smell of an oily rag' end of things compared to the very efficient German-run scene at Trogir, but it all worked and no real issues. Excellent recommendation Robert - boat and destination - you nailed it! John, Australia, Jul 31st, 2019
The Lucky Clover was fantastic. We travelled around the Saronic Islands which were beautiful. A new adventure every day. One day we hired scooters and explored the islands. Great service thank you. 10 out of 10, a trip of a lifetime! Deborah, New Zealand, Aug 1st, 2017

bareboat sailboat charter greece

Until the end of the sixties, the only way to sail the world on your own terms was to own a boat. It was only in 1969, that someone had the brilliant idea to provide well-equipped sailing yachts for rent without a skipper or crew. Since then, the bareboat yacht charter industry has made possible the dreams of many amateur sailors all over the world. Bareboat charter in Greece is quite developed. So, you have the opportunity to experience the Greek islands or coastline rather as a true traveller than a simple tourist.

bareboat sailboat charter greece

The benefits of bareboat charter in Greece

Bareboat chartering in Greece allows you to be your own captain with full control of your sailing vacation right from the beginning. You have the freedom to select the yacht you like, to set your own pace and choose the destinations you want to visit. In other words, you have complete independence and can spend your holidays the way you like, without adhering to anyone’s timelines. So, if you find a secret cove with superb waters and an unforgettable view in Skiathos, you are free to stay as long as you like.

Moreover, bareboat chartering is the ultimate expression of holidays with complete privacy. It’s you and your significant other or your family or your best friends – as if you were at home. Sure, you may lose some on the front of pampering that a professional crew would provide. On the other hand, you can do whatever you like without feeling ill at ease by the presence of strangers. Just imagine yourself skinny-dipping in the turquoise waters of a deserted bay in one of the Cyclades islands without any worries and you get the picture of total privacy.

Furthermore, bareboat chartering can be a very affordable and convenient way to experience sailing in Greece, especially if you share the expenses with a larger group of friends. If you have the qualifications, considering this easy and ultra convenient way of vacationing is an alternative worth exploring!

Most importantly, a bareboat yacht charter in Greece offers sailing enthusiasts a unique chance to fulfill their passion in one of the most beautiful sailing destinations in the world. Greece can probably satisfy any sailing preference you may have – from easy sailing in the Ionian islands to quite challenging conditions in some parts of the Aegean.

The fun starts at home

So go ahead, spread out your charts on the floor, grab a glass of wine and plan your holidays itinerary. Just imagine which fantasy of a Greek sailing holiday you would like to fulfill. That should be enough to guide you!

Greece bareboat charter

Greece offers a full range of Bareboat Charter experiences, from easy to extremely challenging, depending on your choice of area. You can find more on the individual sailing areas in the Sailing in Greece section, which includes a map showing the main charter areas .

It’s not just the sailing conditions that vary; if you Bareboat Charter in Greece, mooring up can present a challenge at some destinations. Most moorings are in town or village harbours and port officials are a rare sight on the quayside. As usual in the eastern Mediterranean, booking systems are unheard of!

img

Ability: Easy to very challenging options

Mooring: Busy in parts, especially in Ionian

Navigation: Few hazards usually well marked

Sailing: Varies greatly between areas.

Vibe: Island hopping. Villages & small tourist towns. Range of restaurants and shops

Getting there: Some bases near airports, others need sea transfer

In many places this doesn’t matter; there’s plenty of room for everyone. However, in busy ports, getting a spot can be a bit of a bun fight and may require some rapid rigging of warps and fenders. On the plus side, when it’s that busy, there are usually plenty of fellow yachtsmen on the quay to help with your lines!

All is not lost; Bareboat Charterers in Greece get used to rafting out, where yachts are moored outside the yachts already tied on the quay. Alternatively, there is often room to anchor nearby, which can be a preferable option for some people when in noisier places.

A bit of research on the ground also pays dividends. The arrival of a Flotilla can turn a quiet harbour in to a busy one so ask around to find out where the Flotillas are headed. Likewise, if you’re out for a fortnight, avoid going in to a yacht base in the middle of your trip; it will be full of charter yachts being prepared for the next guests.

Taking in to account the mooring a well as sailing aspects, I’d rank Greece Bareboat Charter destinations from the easiest upwards as the Saronic, the Ionian, the Sporades, the Dodecanese and the Cyclades.

Life ashore

Until the tourists arrived, the islands were reliant on agriculture and fishing, so there’s little sign of industry. The modern world has arrived though and you’ll find shops to meet your every need. Happily, the supermarket culture is less established so in the towns you will still find butchers, baker and grocers, like a British high street 50 years ago but with the odd mobile phone shop!

A Greek shopping arcane!

A Greek shopping arcane!

There are of course a disproportionate number of bars and restaurants but if you’ve visions of booze crazed teenagers fear not, the worst ravages of British tourism are concentrated in small areas well away from places you’ll be visiting. Greek bars and restaurants are generally tranquil family run affairs.

Greece’s history runs deep and you will see plenty of it. As well as the many well preserved remains from Roman times and beyond,  the architecture reflects the various occupying forces that have seized parts of the country in more recent centuries.

Even the new buildings look old – much of the Ionian that was flattened in the 1953 earthquake has re-emerged looking much the same. It can seem a bit twee at times – some places bear a quite remarkable resemblance to their colour saturated postcards, and the country’s annual spend on whitewash must be phenomenal!

Yacht Charter Bases

The yacht charter operators are a mixture of large companies and family concerns. The major bases are near Athens (Kakamaki/Alimos marina and at Lavrion) or in the Ionian.

Catching the evening sun

Catching the evening sun

Many yachts spend the winter in Athens and are then sent out to their summer bases in the Sporades (Skiathos), Dodecanese (Kos and Rhodes) and the Cyclades (Syros and Paros). The choice and numbers of yacht at these bases are limited. Smaller concerns offer yachts from other places such as Poro (Saronic Gulf), Samos (E Sporades) and Santorini (Cyclades), again in limited numbers.

Athens retains the largest numbers of charter yachts, its popularity assured by the close proximity of Athens’  international airport, despite its geographical location at the edge rather than the centre of the Saronic and Cyclades. There is a good choice of yachts from here and the Ionian bases.

So your choice of start point is partly dependent on your choice of sailing area but also on how long a transfer you want to get there, particularly in the case of the Cyclades and Saronic Gulf.

For most people though, the choice comes down to whether you prefer the easier sailing of the Saronic and Ionian, or the more challenging conditions elsewhere.

Rent a Boat in Athens and Open New Greece

Traveling by sea is an excellent option for everyone who is tired of traditional vacations or being tied to one certain place. When you select a water vehicle, you receive a unique opportunity to visit a lot of wonderful and unique locations and, additionally, enjoy beautiful views, which can only be seen from the sea. Moreover, you are free to organize your own resort on your boat , playing favorite music at full volume or relaxing in silence, which will be interrupted only by water lapping and seagulls. And even more amazing is the possibility to swim in clear waters of amazing remote bays far away from crowded beaches.

General Information

If you are interested in this exclusive way of spending holidays in Athens but don’t have your own boat or don’t know where to rent one, this is not a problem. Thanks to the qualitative rental service provided by 12 Knots in Athens , everyone has a chance to rent a water vehicle and enjoy sailing vacations. The rental agency 12 Knots successfully runs its business since 2009, and it is a leading charter broker facility. This company is quite famous for offering only rental services but also a sailing school. It is possible to find 12 Knots Club’s representatives in more than 36 amazing locations all around the world. You can choose any destination, from the Bahamas to Rhodes. One of the most popular placements for sailing is Athens , Greece .

Why You Should Choose Athens for Yacht Charter

A lot of tourists, as well as locals, choose Athens for their traveling by boat . The popularity of this location is understandable – you can see all showplaces in Acropolis (for example, Parthenon and Daphni Monastery), visit interesting excursions, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Old City. After that, you take a boat at the local port and go to explore the stunning surroundings of Athens and small islands , which are no less stunning than the capital of Greece is. In addition, thanks to the city’s settlement, you have a chance to sail in the Sardonyx gulf and the Aegean Sea. Moreover, sailing conditions in these waters are great. The Aegean Sea is considered to be the calmest sea in the world. Additionally, you will be pleasantly surprised with the cloudless weather but still mild climate.

The Best Time for Sailing Vacations in Athens

The best time for sailing vacations in Athens is a period of a warm half of the year. The most popular season for sailing is the second half of spring, the summer months, and the first half of autumn. The winter season is not appropriate for sail because of the windy weather at sea.

Difficulty Level

12 Knots takes care of customers regardless of their experience and skills in shipping. Therefore, it is possible to either crewed or bareboat yacht. The first option is obviously suitable for newbies or those who want to relax and forget about any difficulties. At the same time, experienced users select a bareboat charter in Athens . In this case, one should know that there could be problems with vehicle driving. The sea is unpredictable; so, you should be ready to cope with stormy weather. Therefore, do not choose a bareboat charter in Athens for the long term if you do not have enough experience in sailing . If you are an experienced captain and have a plan to visit other European coasts, then do not forget that you need to have an international sailing certificate like RYA Day Skipper, IYT Bareboat Skipper, ASA 104 plus IPC.

Of course,  sailing  vacation takes a little more effort for its qualitative organization. However, 12 Knots Yachting Club assures stable support during the booking procedure as well as the vacation period. More often, difficulties are related to the transfer activities in unfamiliar locations. So, it is convenient to select the option “Transfer on request” from the list of additional services. In this case, you will save your time and energy.

Main Charter Bases

12 Knots has many charter bases to ensure clients’ convenience. Main stations are:

What Vehicle Type to Select If You Rent a Boat in Athens

Sail yachts

The most popular vehicle for charter is a sailing yacht . 12 Knots team offers a great number of these boats – 1545. This vehicle assures your comfort and safety in both long-term travel and a day trip. Thanks to the wide variety of options, you can choose a yacht in accordance with your preferences and plans. For instance, if you are going to travel with friends, you can choose Maxus 22 Prestige, Sun Odyssey 32i, or Elan 333, which have 6 sleeping places. However, if you want to spend a weekend with your date, a boat with 1 cabin would be enough.

Powerboat is the best variant for tourists, who want to visit as many places as possible but do not have a lot of time, and those who prefer speed. Motorboats of all sizes with a professional crew are available for booking as well.

In addition, a catamaran is quite easy to operate; so, you can practice and improve your driving skills.

Sailing holidays on a yacht rental is not just for sailors. It is for everyone seeking something more than the sea, the sun, and a sunbed. We provide professionally trained skippers for those who wish to rent a yacht and enjoy relaxing sailing holidays in Greece or those who wish to get involved and learn the ropes and the sails during a skippered yacht charter in Greece. After all, learning how to sail is easy. Depending on crew eagerness, our skipper will not only show how to navigate but will also provide firsthand knowledge of the Greek island destinations.

Skippered yacht charter in Greece - Sailing Heaven

  • need more experience and more confidence to take a yacht rental on their own
  • want to get familiar with the Greek waters (first time to Greece)
  • need a hand because no other in their crew may provide sufficient help
  • need a guide to be with them and show the best coves and secluded bays for moorage and/or swimming, as well as the best places in seaside villages to eat and drink

Choosing a skippered yacht charter, you also hire the skipper who will take care of the yacht for you and will ensure that you get the most out of your sailing holidays in Greece. When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).

You can explore the Greek islands with a sailing or motor yacht, bare-boat or with a skipper for the vacation of a lifetime. The Greek peninsula is at the far south east of Europe is made up of the mainland (Attica, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace) and the islands in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. The area has a population of about 10 million.

Evia  (Yacht Charter in Evia, Greece) – The prefecture of Evia (which also includes the island of Skiros), is next to the prefecture of Viotia on the east and on the south touches the Aegean Sea, on the north and northwest to the Pagasitiko and Maliako Gulf, while on the west and southwest with the north and south Evian Gulf.

Leaving Its Party Island Reputation Behind Ios is Filled With Timeless Villages and 75km of Sandy Beaches.

Ios. Located in the south-central Cyclades, Ios is a small island with a large personality. Once considered one of the main party islands in Greece, the island has now moved forward from this reputation and is getting a name for itself for other reasons. On a Greek Islands bareboat charter, you will still find the lively bars and bustling cities that once were full of the young and free, but now you can escape them very easier. Confined to the town of Mylopotas the nightlife and partying is easy to escape with towns such as Chora gaining a name for itself. Chora has white square buildings, windmills, and blue-domed churches.

Timeless Villages. A great reason to go to Ios on a Greek Islands bareboat charter is to visit the towns which time has forgotten. Ios has over 75km of sandy beaches which are beautiful and picturesque. The port of Ormos Yialos is one of the biggest natural harbours located within the Aegean and a great place to visit on a Greek Islands bareboat charter.

Two of the smallest islands in the ionian islands - paxos and antipaxos..

Paxos . Located in the Ionian Islands, Paxos is located around 20 miles south of Corfu, the island is one of the smallest in the collection of islands.
