By Rebecca Whitlocke

Growing up in Southampton before moving to the sun-kissed coastlines of the French Riviera, emerging artist Jane Dieu cultivated an enduring love affair with the sea and the exquisite craftsmanship of luxury yachts.

Transitioning from the corporate world to pursuing her artistic passion, Jane’s evolution as an artist is clear and compelling. “I’ve developed a bold, modern take on the more traditional yacht painting,” she explains. “My aim is to capture the soul of the yacht, and guide the viewer’s eye through the painting by using my signature cubic style abstraction.”

For those immersed in the world of yachting, Jane’s nautical artworks transcend mere acquisitions—they are statements, celebrations of the yachting lifestyle. Whether adorning the interiors of majestic vessels or gracing the walls of galleries like the Galerie Yachting Style in Port Grimaud near Saint-Tropez, her paintings seamlessly meld with the world of the owner, becoming an integral part of elegant yacht salons and luxurious residences.

The Irresistible Charm of Jane Dieu ’s Yacht Paintings

Currently, Jane is preparing for an array of gallery exhibitions in 2024, setting the stage for an opulent showcase of her paintings. Simultaneously, she’s working on a collection of bespoke commissions, destined to become cherished Christmas gifts for global yacht owners. Her collection includes originals and hand-embellished prints featuring iconic vessels like the Maltese Falcon, Black Pearl, and Zulu.

Jane’s artworks are more than visual delights; they are conduits for the ‘wow’ factor, provoking inspiration, contemplation, and meaningful dialogues between the viewer and the art.

Charter companies and yacht brokers are taking note; “During Monaco Yacht Show, I was delighted to purchase Jane’s stunning painting of Motor Yacht WHISPER for the new owner,” enthused Will Christie, Founder of Christie Yachts. “They were not only impressed by the artistry, but also deeply touched by the personal gesture. I would highly recommend Jane Dieu’s artwork to anyone in the industry. Her paintings are a wonderful gift, or for owners a beautiful way to capture their unique yacht in a truly original manner.”

Another creation found its place in Cecil Wright’s prestigious collection, marking a noteworthy acknowledgment of her talent within elite circles of yacht aficionados. The industry is realising that by offering Jane’s custom paintings to their yacht owners and charter guests, they can help ensure their name echoes in conversations for years to come, attracting a refined clientele seeking the epitome of luxury.

Artful Horizons: Onboard Art Unveiled

For connoisseurs of luxury living aboard superyachts, art transcends decoration—it becomes a defining element of identity. Each carefully chosen painting serves as an anchor, a symbolic fragment intricately woven into the fabric of the owner’s personal taste. These curated artworks are more than an embellishment; they are pivotal contributors to the yacht’s ambiance, shaping its mood and character. In this exclusive realm of luxury and distinction, art isn’t just an accessory—it is a chapter in the ongoing narrative of the superyacht experience.

Commissioning a painting from Jane means tailoring it to fit a specific space seamlessly. Yacht interiors, with their unique constraints of ceiling height, lighting, and practical considerations related to salt, humidity, and shifts in movement, demand a meticulous approach. Much like the craft of boatbuilding, painting becomes a passionate journey, blending concepts, tools, and creative nuances.

Nestled in Normandy, France, Jane’s studio stands as a haven—a sanctuary for inspiration, especially on days when the weather turns tempestuous. Here, her canvases await a world where beauty and adventure converge. In Jane’s paintings, the intricate dance of architectural lines and design motifs of yachts unfolds, crafting a beautiful harmony that intertwines the vessel’s structural elegance with bold colour palettes.

In every brushstroke, Jane intricately weaves the significance of perspective into her creations, infusing each masterpiece with intimate emotions, rich experiences, and a subtle touch of nostalgia. Her vibrant, modern paintings transform the yacht’s interior into a floating gallery, where the undulating waves outside echo the fluidity and dynamism of the artworks within.

For those who appreciate not only the yachting lifestyle, but the artistry it entails, Jane Dieu’s art offers a unique voyage into a realm where luxury and artistic expression converge.

With an upcoming exhibition in January at ‘The Artists’ gallery in Caen, France, Jane Dieu welcomes bespoke commissions in 2024 and beyond.

Are super-yachts the best places to keep your art collection?

Anyone driving into Miami Beach this week is sure to pass a string of super-yachts—floating signifiers of their owners’ wealth. These highly visible luxury purchases, which come with their own multimillion-dollar price tags and creative names, often hold a cache of cultural treasures, from antiquities to contemporary art. But is a yacht the best place to keep your art collection?

In theory, works are no more at risk on a super-yacht, where temperature, humidity and light are maintained by a full-time crew of up to 50 people, than in a house. High-value items on a yacht will also be insured separately, since they could be worth more than the boat. They may also be fakes. “Insurance brokers will often suggest that you have something of exceptional value copied and put the original somewhere safe,” says the lawyer Jonathan Watson, a partner with MFB Solicitors in London.

There is, of course, the danger of your art being seized—not by pirates, but by Customs & Excise (which some taxpayers consider to be the same thing), if you attempt to avoid paying duty on objects bought in other parts of the world. Recent court cases should serve as warnings to collectors who try to hide their assets by sending them out to sea.

This summer, the mega-yacht Equanimity, belonging to the 36-year-old Malaysian businessman Jho Low, was first seized in Bali. Low, who is now a fugitive, is accused of stealing billions from his country’s sovereign wealth fund 1MBD and using the money to buy real-estate and yachts, as well as an art collection that at one point contained a $39m painting by Basquiat as well as works by Van Gogh, Monet, Calder and Rothko. “We don’t know if valuable art was on the yacht,” Watson says. “But the insurance brokers probably do.”

In a similar case, Vijay Mallya, the former chairman of India’s largest brewer, who has also been charged with financial misconduct, had his yacht—the Indian Empress—seized in Malta. Although the boat was sold in September for €35m, a number of items that were on board, including valuable paintings, were spirited away before they could also be seized, according to Watson.

Such cases raise interesting questions in a world where yachts, often with a complex web of ownerships, transport valuable art from one jurisdiction to another. In 2015, for example, French customs officers seized Picasso’s Head of a Young Woman (1906) from Adix, the Spanish billionaire Jaime Botín’s yacht. Although it was moored in Corsica, He argued that it was sailing under a British flag and was thus in the UK’s jurisdiction, but this held no sway with Spain’s judges, who deemed the work a national treasure and Adix subject to Spanish law.

“There are a host of local rules and regulations governing the inventories of yachts,” Watson says. “They vary from country to country and even from port to port.” All of which makes climate and light control seem like the least of a collector’s concerns.

Choosing Art for Yachts: Considerations and Tips

Whether you’re a seasoned yacht owner or contemplating a nautical adventure, the process of curating onboard artworks is a crucial one. In this section, we’ll dive into the key considerations and tips when it comes to choosing art for your yacht. We’ll explore the importance of size and scale, the significance of durability and maintenance, and the impact of light and space on showcasing artworks. Get ready to discover how to transform your yacht into a floating gallery that exudes elegance and style.

Size and Scale

When curating onboard artworks for luxury yachts, one crucial consideration is the size and scale of the pieces. The table below showcases the recommended guidelines for size and scale.

Main salon Large-scale artworks such as oversized paintings or wall installations can serve as impactful focal points of interest.
Staterooms Medium-sized artworks that complement the size of the room without overwhelming the space.
Hallways and corridors Smaller artworks or a series of smaller artworks arranged in a cohesive manner.
Outdoor spaces Sculptures or artworks that are weather-resistant and suit the scale of the surroundings.

It is important to note that the size and scale of the artworks should not only be determined by the dimensions of the available wall space but also by the overall aesthetic of the yacht. The artworks should seamlessly blend with the luxury yacht interior and enhance the visual experience of the space.

As a true story, the superyacht owner of Cloud 9, a prominent art collector, carefully considered the size and scale of the artworks for the main salon. Being passionate about contemporary art, he commissioned a renowned contemporary artist to create a stunning TV roller artwork that spanned the entire length of the wall. The impressive scale of the piece not only added a touch of luxury to the space but also created a captivating focal point for guests to admire while onboard.

Durability and Maintenance

Durability and maintenance are crucial factors to consider when curating onboard artworks for yachts. The artworks onboard should be able to withstand the challenging and ever-changing environments at sea while requiring minimal maintenance.

To ensure durability , it is important to choose artworks made with materials that are resistant to corrosion, fading, and water damage. Metals such as stainless steel or bronze and materials like acrylic or resin are suitable for marine environments. Selecting artworks that are sturdy and well-constructed can help ensure their longevity.

Maintenance is a key aspect of preserving the artworks onboard. Regular inspection and cleaning are necessary to prevent the accumulation of dust, salt, or other contaminants that can potentially damage the artwork. Utilizing environmentally friendly cleaning products and techniques is advisable to prevent any harm to the artwork’s integrity.

Considering the accessibility of the artworks for maintenance is vital. Artworks that are easily removable or have detachable components can make maintenance tasks more manageable. Adequate storage space should also be allocated to protect the artworks when they are not on display.

By carefully considering durability and maintenance, yacht owners can ensure that their onboard artworks remain in excellent condition and continue to enhance the aesthetic appeal of their yacht for years to come.

It is recommended to work closely with art consultants, curators, and designers who have extensive experience in selecting and maintaining artworks for yachts. They can provide valuable guidance on choosing durable artworks and offer advice on proper maintenance techniques. Regularly reviewing and updating the artwork archive and implementing environmental controls, especially in extreme high sea cases or when sailing in international waters, can also help protect the artworks.

Light and Space

When curating art for yachts, one important consideration is how the artwork interacts with the yacht’s light and space. The right combination of light and space can enhance the visual impact of the artwork and create a harmonious and luxurious atmosphere onboard.

Proper lighting is essential to showcase the artwork effectively. Natural light can bring out the colors and details of the artwork, so positioning artwork near windows or skylights can provide an optimum lighting solution. Installing adjustable and dimmable lighting systems allows for flexibility in creating different moods and highlighting specific pieces.
Considering the available space is crucial in selecting the right artwork for a yacht. Large-scale artworks can make a bold statement and act as focal points in spacious areas such as the main salon or dining area. For smaller spaces, opting for smaller or medium-sized pieces can create an intimate and cozy ambiance.

Pro-tip: To make the most of the light and space onboard, choose artwork that complements the yacht’s interior design and color palette. Consider collaborating with design partners who have extensive experience in integrating artwork seamlessly into luxury yacht interiors. This ensures that the artwork not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also elevates the overall experience for the yacht owner and guests.

Curating Artwork Themes for Yachts

When it comes to curating artwork themes for yachts, the possibilities are as vast as the sea itself. From nautical and maritime themes that capture the adventurous spirit of the ocean, to serene seascape and underwater themes that immerse you in the beauty below the surface, and luxurious elegance themes that exude class and sophistication, each sub-section offers a unique perspective on yacht art collection. Get ready to set sail on a visual journey as we explore the artistry that can grace the walls of your yacht.

Nautical and Maritime Themes

Nautical and maritime themes are a popular choice when curating artwork for yachts. These themes not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the yacht interior but also create a cohesive and harmonious atmosphere with the surrounding waters. Here are some considerations when selecting nautical and maritime art for your yacht:

1. Capturing the essence of the sea: Choose artwork that depicts the beauty and power of the ocean. Paintings or photographs showcasing crashing waves, serene seascapes, or majestic sailing vessels can create a sense of tranquility and adventure.

2. Symbolism and nautical elements: Incorporate nautical symbols and elements into the artwork to create a cohesive theme. Anchors, compasses, sailboats, and marine life can add visual interest and reinforce the nautical theme.

3. Historical references: Consider artwork that pays homage to maritime history. Paintings or sculptures depicting famous ships, lighthouses, or explorers can add a touch of nostalgia and intrigue to the yacht’s ambiance.

4. Colors and materials: Opt for artwork that incorporates colors commonly found in the maritime setting, such as shades of blue, white, and sandy tones . Artwork created using materials like driftwood, seashells, or marine-inspired textiles can further enhance the nautical theme.

5. Artwork placement: Carefully consider where to display the nautical and maritime artwork. Focal points, such as the main salon or hallways, are ideal locations for showcasing these pieces, allowing guests to appreciate them while immersing themselves in the yacht’s luxurious surroundings.

By following these tips and carefully selecting nautical and maritime artwork, yacht owners can create a captivating and inviting environment on board that reflects their passion for the sea and adds a unique touch to their yacht experience. So set sail and immerse yourself in the beauty of nautical and maritime art.

– Sculptures inspired by marine life can bring a unique touch to yacht interiors. Sculptures representing sea creatures or showcasing the movement of water can create a captivating visual impact.

– Incorporating seashells and coral-inspired artworks can add a delicate and whimsical touch to yacht interiors. These pieces can be created using various mediums such as glass, ceramics, or even natural seashells.

– Artists often explore abstract interpretations of seascape and underwater themes. These artworks can use bold colors , fluid brushstrokes , or imaginative compositions to convey the essence of the ocean and its depths.

– Artists may use a combination of various mediums such as painting, photography, and collage to create visually striking artwork inspired by seascape and underwater scenes. These mixed media pieces can offer a multidimensional and textured aesthetic.

Luxury and Elegance Themes

When curating artworks for luxury and elegance themes on yachts, there are several factors to consider:

  • Artists and styles: Choose leading contemporary artists known for their luxurious and elegant aesthetic. Look for artists like Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Claude Monet, or Claude Lorraine, who create artworks that exude sophistication and opulence .
  • Subject matter: Select artworks that depict themes of luxury , such as lavish interiors, exquisite fashion, glamorous events, or high-end destinations. These themes will enhance the overall luxurious atmosphere of the yacht.
  • Medium and materials: Opt for artworks created using high-quality materials that exude luxury, like gold leafing, marble, or fine textiles. The choice of medium and materials can greatly contribute to the elegance and sophistication of the artwork.
  • Placement and focal points: Strategically place the artworks in prominent areas of the yacht, such as the main salon or other spaces where guests gather. These artworks should serve as focal points of interest, drawing attention and adding to the overall luxurious ambiance.
  • Coherence and harmony: Ensure that the selected artworks blend seamlessly with the luxury yacht interior design. Consider the color palette, style, and overall aesthetic of the yacht, and choose artworks that complement and enhance the existing elements.
  • Collection management: Properly organize and maintain an artwork archive to ensure the preservation and care of the pieces. Consult with art experts and professionals to ensure the longevity and value of the artworks.

By carefully considering these factors, yacht owners can curate a collection of artworks that perfectly embody the themes of luxury and elegance, elevating the overall aesthetic of their yacht.

Displaying and Securing Art Onboard Yachts

Unlock the beauty of your yacht with captivating onboard artworks! In this section, we dive into the art of displaying and securing art onboard yachts. Discover the secrets behind proper lighting and framing that will accentuate the elegance of your chosen pieces. Learn how to secure your valuable artworks in challenging environments, ensuring their preservation and protection throughout your voyages. Let’s embark on this artistic journey and elevate the ambiance of your yacht to new heights.

Proper Lighting and Framing

Proper lighting and framing are crucial elements to consider when selecting artwork for yachts.

  • Optimal lighting accentuates the visual impact of art pieces by creating a captivating focal point. LED lights, known for their energy efficiency and bright illumination, are commonly utilized. Strategically placed, these lights highlight specific artworks and cultivate a captivating ambiance onboard.
  • Framing plays a vital role in preserving and presenting artworks. High-quality frames not only contribute to the aesthetic value of the artwork but also protect it from potential damage caused by humidity, temperature changes, and yacht movement. Selecting frames that harmonize with the artwork style and overall interior design of the yacht is essential.
  • Installing adjustable lighting fixtures and dimming systems allows for accommodating diverse lighting needs and creating different moods onboard. This flexibility ensures that the artwork can be appreciated under various lighting conditions, optimizing its visibility and impact.
  • In addition to lighting, careful consideration should be given to the placement and positioning of artworks. Utilizing natural light sources facilitates a seamless integration of artwork and surroundings. It is advisable to position artworks away from direct sunlight to prevent fading or discoloration.

By carefully attending to proper lighting and framing , yacht owners can effectively showcase their art collection while preserving it and enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the yacht interior.

Securing Artwork in Challenging Environments

When it comes to securing artwork in challenging environments onboard yachts, there are several factors to consider.

First and foremost, securing artwork in challenging environments is crucial to prevent any damage or accidents. This can be achieved by implementing secure mounting techniques, such as reinforced hooks or brackets. It’s important to take into account the movement of water and ensure that the artwork is placed in a location where it won’t be affected by splashes or strong waves .

In addition to securing the artwork physically, protecting it from theft is equally essential in challenging environments. Yachts can be vulnerable to unauthorized access, so it is recommended to incorporate security measures such as surveillance cameras , alarms , and limited access to certain areas .

Environmental controls should also be taken into account when securing artwork in challenging environments. Yachts often encounter extreme high sea cases and operate in international waters where weather conditions can be unpredictable. Therefore, it is crucial to protect the artwork from moisture , humidity , and temperature fluctuations . This can be accomplished through the use of climate-controlled display cases or the installation of moisture barriers to prevent any damage.

Furthermore, displaying the artwork in a way that seamlessly fits with the yacht’s interior design is important. This entails careful consideration of the artwork’s size and scale, as well as its placement in relation to other points of interest. Proper lighting and framing techniques can enhance the artwork’s visibility and ensure that it stands out in the space.

Securing artwork in challenging environments onboard yachts requires thoughtful planning and the implementation of measures to protect the artwork from damage , theft , and environmental factors . By considering and incorporating these important aspects, yacht owners can enjoy their curated onboard art collection with peace of mind .

Superyachts: Art on Board

Learn how art experts and susan almrud, valentina zannier, and pascale reymond integrate art, architecture, and aesthetics on some of the world’s largest superyachts..

This article was written by Jill Bobrow. Photography courtesy of the designers.

Owning a superyacht is tantamount to having a second or third home.

So naturally the interior design and décor of a yacht not only reflects the way you live aboard, but your aesthetic sensibilities as well.

And while art and interior architecture are often intertwined, the topic of what art is and what makes art good is a centuries-old conversation with no clear definition. So, understanding art is, at once, universal and personal.

superyacht art collections

Meanwhile, superyachts are often filled with priceless art even though choosing and placing art on a yacht is not as easy as simply hanging a painting on a wall. The question is: how do superyacht designers and art experts help clients make such personal choices that help make their yacht the ultimate expression of their passion? I spoke to a professional art advisor and two prominent yacht designers to find out.

superyacht art collections

Susan Almrud is the founder and principal in SA Art Partners, a New York/London-based art advisory that specializes in museum-level modern and contemporary art. She partners with clients newly interested in collecting art as well as enhancing the collections of long-time art lovers.

Almrud’s specific field of expertise is post-war contemporary art. She says, “Most of my clients have been new to collecting. It is very motivating and inspiring to share and expose people to new art and ideas. I never want to force a client to get something he or she does not like, but pushing the envelope a bit is part of the process. Passion for art is essential and this takes time and knowledge to develop.”

All of her collectors have been pleased with how their acquisitions have also increased in monetary value. Almrud says, “There is a Picasso quote that always resonates. He would often say: ‘I do not seek, I find.’” She adds, “Something clicks with me. I sense when I have discovered the right piece for a client.”

I feel more like a connector than someone just selling art.

Her process of working with clients is personal. She says she needs to understand each client’s aesthetics to find out about their current tastes and where they can go. “Often chosen artworks for clients are based on intuition and gut instincts.” After developing some knowledge about those she works with, the most important thing is to gain a client’s trust around choices. Part of the journey of establishing a collection for a client is sharing in-depth information about art. She says, “I like to get people to step outside their comfort zone of what they know. I find sharing art books is a very visual way to inform them about artists with whom they may not be familiar. Once you learn about an artist and their intentions, it helps to understand more about their work. My focus is always on artists with longevity and works with beauty and quality.”

One of Almrud’s superyacht collections was for Lukas Lundin, the now-deceased previous owner of the award-winning Feadship Savannah. “I worked of the specifications and plans of the yacht together with Lukas and with the yacht’s designer, Cristina Gherardi of CG Design, for several years preconstruction. We collected many iconic artworks for the yacht.”

There is no question that the carefully curated art as well as each placement aboard Savannah are enhancements to the overall ambiance onboard. Entering the yacht from the aft main deck, one of the first pieces of art is the epic Cecily Brown mosaic swimming pool installation. Once inside the yacht, unique works by Jim Hodges, Raymond Pettbon, Gerhard Richter, Ugo Rondinone, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and others, all add to the exquisite interior spaces created by Cristina Gherardi and are part of Savannah’s magical appeal for visitors and guests.

Valentina Zannier is the principal of Valentina Zannier Interiors Architecture studio and has always taken an artistic approach to interior architecture. “I grew up in Venice and art was everywhere,” she says. “In my family, art was truly our daily bread.” As a trained architect, she says that her approach to going granular with design details is to first envision a yacht in its entirety. Her furnishings, such as light fixtures, dining tables, dressers, staircase surrounds, and wall hangings, have one thing in common: “Each and everything I create is unique.”

As former chief of interior design and partner at the renowned design firm Nuvolari Lenard, Zannier made her mark on an impressive roster of yacht projects over a period of more than two decades. One of her most recent projects while at Nuvolari Lenard was the 115-meter Ahpo, where she developed many unique interior features.

“I respect the old masters and I would never equate my artistic creations with them.”

superyacht art collections

However, I do believe there is a connection between decorative furnishings and fine art. I have always endeavored to push the boundaries between the two.

Zannier is quick to give credit to design companies with whom she collaborates, such as LIST, Based Upon, DKT, and many others.

“Working with shipyards, interior builders, and, of course, artists, I have had the opportunity to cross some lines of art and artistry that I didn’t think possible,” says Zannier. “Together we have developed a language that integrates joinery details into special surfaces and the final result looks like art just not the type of art you hang on the wall, or that stands on a pedestal.”

superyacht art collections

Pascale Reymond , partner in UK-based Reymond Langton Design, says, “Having studied art and art history at university, I was an artist before being a yacht designer. A work of fine art is more than the sum of its elements the whole has its own magic, totally unplanned, and does not try to match or compliment anything. Fine art is full of surprises.”

Reymond goes on to say, “Design and integrated art are very different and, to an extent, very much planned and controlled. They have to sit in their dedicated environment that the owner or designer has allocated. There is not very much room for spontaneity. To be a true work of art, you need to let the creator breathe and give him space as even the artist himself cannot necessarily control the final product. It could be a terrible work of art or a piece of magic.”

superyacht art collections

Many Reymond Langton-designed yachts enjoy a large proportion of integrated art in all areas of the yacht interior. They commission many different artists and artisans, such as leather carvers (Bravo Eugenia saloon), handwoven silk tapestry (Artefact VIP stateroom), and painted and embroidery panels (staterooms in H3 and Aviva).

“While we engage artists from all over the world to collaborate with us, we always direct them,” says Reymond. “We have a multi-talented and artistic team at Reymond Langton.

With my background in fine art, I not only enjoy and can paint, I also have a seriously great passion for art.

I have personally collected over 70 paintings in the last 20 years.”

superyacht art collections

It is always a fine balance in an interior to have integrated art working well with an existing art collection. Integrated art is usually more in line with interior design while independent paintings are collection pieces which have a life of their own and history behind them, and do not serve the purpose of decoration. “A good balanced interior should have both,” says Reymond.

In the end, many superyachts themselves embody art and artistry. Adjectives used to describe yacht’s profiles, hulls, and superstructures are often similar to the language of art: linear, sculptured, balanced, proportional, monochromatic, smooth, uniform, symmetrical, asymmetrical, glossy, refective, edgy, precise, and so on.

$5 M. Art Collection Seized from Russian Oligarch’s Superyacht by German Authorities

By Francesca Aton

The superyacht Dilbar pulled into a covered floating dock at Luerssen shipyards, 2022.

Thirty paintings owned by sanctioned Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov have been seized by German police, the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reported on Monday.

Earlier this year, citing close ties with the Kremlin and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the European Union sanctioned Usmanov in response to Russian’s invasion of Ukraine.

In April, German authorities impounded Dilbar. Usmanov did not declare all his assets in Germany, including artworks, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung . A representative for Usmanov, however, denied that the oligarch owns the paintings and superyacht.

In September, German police  raided  a villa on Lake Tegernsee in the Bavarian region, along with other properties supposedly linked to Usmanov.

On Tuesday, German news outlet Der Spiegel reported that investigators had searched the Munich and Frankfurt branches of Swiss bank UBS in connection with Usmanov. The searches were conducted to collect evidence in a suspected money-laundering case, evasion of up to €555 million in taxes, and for infractions to the law of foreign trade, said a spokesperson for the attorney general’s office to the news agency Reuters .

Usmanov is not the first Russian oligarch to have his art and luxury holdings confiscated. In April, a Diego Rivera painting was among the assets seized from Oleg Deripaska , who was sanctioned in 2018.

Meanwhile, in March, the world’s top three auction houses— Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips—agreed to comply with ongoing international efforts targeting assets owned by sanctioned Russian business moguls.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN DISPLAYING FINE ART ON SUPERYACHTS: 1. Proper insurance and security is important for keeping art on board 2. Too much light can damage a yacht’s artwork 3. Install art on yachts the right way 4. Climate control to extend the life of art on board 5. Trust experienced specialists for your superyacht’s artwork see article: Boat International Magazin

1. Proper insurance and security is important for keeping art on board A working alarm system is essential. Marine insurance policies are rarely standardised, so your art collection can probably be incorporated into it. "Insurance companies expect owners to employ a professional art management service to guarantee maximum protection where all possible negative influences are avoided from day one," adds Aston Milan Salcedo of Yacht Art Management. "Many countries also have strict laws to protect their cultural property so you may also face legal issues if you're taking an important piece of art out of a country."

2. Too much light can damage a yacht’s artwork Lighting is all-important, both directional and ambient. As on land, photography, watercolours and drawings need to be protected from natural light, so frame them using a highly protective anti-glare, anti-reflective glass and hang works away from direct light sources. "To create perfect illumination of the colours in the artwork a specific LED light system in the appropriate range of colours is necessary," advises Milan Salcedo. "Due to the limited ceiling height in a yacht we highly recommend working with an interior designer early on in the process."

3. Install art on yachts the right way You cannot simply hang a painting on board; it needs to be screwed to the wall. The same goes for fixing small sculptures and objects, which is where “museum glue” (also called gel, wax or putty) comes in: a clear product that fixes objects to surfaces (though not irrevocably) to stop them shifting in a swell. "Even with six metre waves in the Gulf of Lyon nothing really moved," Raffaele Costa says in testament to the skill of the team who installed the numerous artworks on board his 53 metre Mariotti yacht.

4. Climate control to extend the life of art on board The air quality and temperature within each room is important: humidity is bad for art, as is salt air and direct sunlight. "You always have to be aware of humidity and heat on board," explains Tilman Kriesel. "Strict insurance requirements mean even museums have to fulfil high standards before important pieces are allowed to be shown and your yacht is no different. Special climate boxes are needed for transportation and you may need to install an alarm system to alert you to atmospheric changes."

5. Trust experienced specialists for your superyacht’s artwork Every advisor, gallery and specialist house has its own specialists and quite often the artist will insist you use the framer of their choice. So the best advice is: take the advice of your trusted advisor! "Limited space and technical classifications have a major influence of the display of an artwork," says Milan Salcedo. "Seek qualified advice before buying so you can plan the perfect surroundings for existing pieces or choose the perfect piece for an existing surrounding. Art is nice to have, but it has to have the best possible setting to inspire."

6. The Practical Care of On-board Art Collections One and two-day intensive art instruction course for Superyacht Captains and Crew. This two-part course teaches those with little or no knowledge the basics of the art world. Flexible and modular, the course includes an overview of the art world, the art market and what is involved in the study of art history. Additional art handling modules teach the management, care and handling of valuable objects on board along with the full scope of collectors’ services. The Practical Care of On-board Art Collections was specifically developed for yacht managers and staff. Pandora Art Service

Inside new superyacht Ulyssia with 132-room hotel, pools and theatre

  • World's most wealthy will be able to own a share of the 1,050ft yacht with all the luxuries of modern living

'For a life without boundaries,' promise the makers of the superyacht 'Ulyssia', a planned 1,050ft (320m) vessel bigger than The Titanic that its owners say with 'transform our concept of discovery and home'.

The Ulyssia is still some four years away from its expected date of completion, but new images provide unprecedented insight into the life of luxury on board, including 132 lavish apartments said to 'meet the standards of a five-star hotel', a theatre, a library, various pools and great underwater panoramic windows.

Although it is not yet known exactly how much residency on board will cost, details have begun to emerge around the kind of lifestyle guests can expect to enjoy. Beyond the essential amenities - restaurants, a medical centre, an XXL wine cellar - residents will also be able to bring home comfort on board, customising their rooms to their liking.

Residents hoping to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life are expected to be able to take out a 50 year lease to stay on the ship in rooms ranging from 112 to 1000sq-m. Those with lives still on land will have access to two helicopters on board to bring guests back and forth.

The mega yacht belongs to Swiss company Ulyssia Residence AG and is the brainchild of Espen Øino, a veteran Monaco-based yacht designer from Norway with a track record of drawing up swanky yachts with bespoke touches for the world's richest.

The superyacht is presented as a base of operations for some of the world's most fortunate people, a place to kick back and relax after a busy day of adventuring through foreign wonders.

Alain Gruber, CEO of Ulyssia Residences AG, said: 'The concept behind Ulyssia is to travel the world - but from your own home.

'Every day you can go out and discover new destinations around the world, but in the evening you can come back to your family in your own four walls.'

The homes on board will be offered in configurations of one to six bedrooms, and are set to include open-plan kitchens, terraces and receptions with all the comforts of the modern home.

Residents can also house guests in one of 22 slightly smaller guest apartments - also offering a space for lecturers and experts to stay when visiting, according to BOAT International , a guide for the superyacht enthusiast.

FM Architetture and eight other top designers have been drawn in to fit the interiors to residents' individual tastes.

The company has an impressive portfolio of working on boats, homes, towers and hotels in a range of classical and contemporary stylings.

To suit everybody's needs, the yacht will carry a range of permanent entertainment, including a two-level theatre, a library and several conference rooms.

Restaurants will welcome 'world famous but also up-and-coming chefs' - although residents will also have access to a grocery store with 'local products from the piers' if they fancy a quiet one.

Beyond practical usage, the helicopters, it is promised, can also be used to 'facilitate epic adventures' like heliskiing.

'[Every resident] has something in common. They want to travel, they are curious, they are adventurous,' said Mr Gruber.

'But after that, they divide up into these sub-groups.

'You have your foodies, you have your divers, you have your sailors, you have your art collectors, people that interested in reading and book clubs – all those subcommittees will start to form on board and create a real sense of community.'

For longevity, the yacht will be powered by methanol and other biofuels, according to Bild , ensuring it can keep sailing for decades without becoming too taxing on the environment.

Solar panels will also help make use of natural resources to slash emissions on this ship of the future.

Ownership will be on a shared freehold basis, with residents owning the ship in perpetuity and in proportion to the square footage owned, BOAT International reports.

“Today marks the culmination of a shared vision and the relentless pursuit of excellence, a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication of all those involved,” Jim Murren, executive chairman and CEO of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, said at the delivery ceremony. “We are deeply grateful to the exceptional teams here at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, whose hard work and passion have brought this vision to life.”

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Ilma

Named after the Maltese word for “water,” Ilma took two years of painstaking work to build. The 790-footer showcases a sleek, superyacht -inspired exterior by the folks at Finnish studio Aivan and an elegant, light-filled interior by British firm AD Associates. Some 224 spacious suites are thoughtfully positioned throughout, creating space for up to 448 passengers.

Each suite features floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces that afford prime ocean views. As with sistership Evrima, Ilma has several larger, more luxurious suites for seafarers looking to splash cash. The top-tier Owner’s Suite offers just over 1,000 square feet of living space, an in-suite bar, and a chic dining area.

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Ilma

Ilma’s maiden voyage from Monte Carlo to Rome is scheduled for September 2. The liner will then embark on more cruises to the Mediterranean and Caribbean, before sailing the North and Baltic Seas of Northern Europe during the 2025 summer season. Custom Art Commissions

Commissioning a piece of art is a key way to create impact in yacht interiors. We work with artists to create customised paintings, sculptures and mural art, specially for the project.

Artelier's yacht art services oversee each aspect of the art commissioning process to develop personalised artworks – from devising ideas for yacht art, to installing art onboard the yacht.

Technical Yacht Expertise

High-value art on superyachts requires specialist care, so knowing how to protect art on yachts is essential. We ensure each artwork supplied for a yacht has uniquely designed fixings so that it is safely secured, and project manage art installation.

In addition, our art consultants collaborate with artists to create specialised art coatings – such as lacquers or metal finishes – for optimal art conservation.

Art the Clown’s Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree in New 'Terrifier 3' Images

The Big Picture

  • Terrifier 3 brings back Art the Clown in a blood-soaked Christmas slasher, with new terrifying images to haunt your dreams.
  • The film follows Sienna's struggle as a survivor, with Art still on the hunt and a possessed Victoria playing a bigger role in the madness.
  • Taking inspiration from classic Christmas horrors, Terrifier 3 hits theaters on October 11, 2024, promising a terrifying and gory experience.

As we get closer to the spooky fall months, there's only one sequel on horror fans’ minds. That would be Terrifier 3 . The Damien Leone directed slasher continues Art the Clown ’s blood-soaked reign of terror this October. Now, ahead of the Christmas-themed film’s trailer this week, Terrifier 3 has left some frightening presents under the tree in the form of new images .

Courtesy of USA Today, the images include David Howard Thornton’s Art dressed up in a Santa Claus costume with a festive reef behind him. This demonic force is looking scarier than ever with blood all over his face. His other disturbing close up features the slasher killer in his traditional black and white clown costume. The next haunting shot is of Lauren LaVera’s returning final girl, Sienna Shaw , who’s walking around in the dark with only Christmas lights guiding her. When speaking with USA Today, Leone teased where Sienna was as a survivor of Art. “Especially for Sienna, it hasn't been an easy road. She's been in and out of a mental health facility just dealing with all of this – not only just what she's been through but what she's becoming and what her role is in this universe.” That struggle only looks to get harder in the third film as Art “still has his eyes set on them with a lot of unfinished business.” The final image of this set is of Samantha Scaffidi’s Victoria Hayes . She may have survived the events of the first film, but Victoria is possessed by an evil entity and, at the end of the second film, she was a major part of Art’s literal rebirth. She’ll have a much bigger role to play in Terrifier 3 .

What's ‘Terrifier 3’ About?

New plot details also came alongside these spine-chilling images. Terrifier 3 will take place five years after the dreadful events of Terrifier 2 . Miles County is still dealing with the trauma left behind by Art. However, Sienna and her brother Johnathan are spending the holiday season with their aunt and uncle . Yet, not even Christmas can stop Art’s maddening return. Terrifier 3 will also be the home for a lot of answers, deepening the mythology of its horrific universe that was set up in its first sequel. This includes learning more about The Pale Girl and why she helped resurrect Art, along with further exploring Sienna’s connection to her deceased father . The latter of which has a mysterious connection of his own to Art. When talking about the new Christmas setting and how it’ll affect Art , Leone teased, “Pretty much any classic Christmas movie trope you could imagine, I try to put Art the Clown in that situation and see how he would handle that.” How he would handle it seems to be the scariest and goriest film in this cult indie franchise to date.

When Does ‘Terrifier 3’ Release?

Terrifier 3 is coming down the chimney exclusively in theaters on October 11, 2024 . The film has taken inspiration from seasonal slasher classics like Black Christmas and Robert Zemeckis ’ holiday episode of Tales From The Crypt. The new trailer and poster will be dropped on Wednesday, July 24th ahead of San Diego Comic Con. Until then, you can read Leone's full Terrifier 3 interview on USA Today's website .

Terrifier 3

In the third installment of Damien Leone’s breakout horror film, Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.

No one loves like a Leo. This season, let your feline flame burn eternal

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

surreal collage of a portable burner with illustrated sparks flying above with a lion lays on a celestial landscape behind it

Who — or what — is like a Leo? The fifth sign, presiding over the astrological house ruling joy, passion and all things lovable, is never not a welcome presence to those with taste. As different as each Leo is (and as they insist they are, never appreciating comparisons with another and always requiring a pampering of their endearing delusion-truth that they are unequivocally one-of-one), they all bring a flame. As an astrologer, it’s most ethical to view the zodiacal constellations with a lovingly dispassionate eye. But as my Uranian dominance lends itself to rule-breaking, I must confess that Leo is the sign that melts me. Who else could inject an icy, dormant heart with the warmth of a thousand suns with one laugh, one embrace, one absolutely ridiculous and yet perfectly executed dance?

Art by Beth Hoeckel, featuring Mono Silver Zeug Cutlery Set

This Cancer season, give into the comfort your heart is yearning for

Sometimes the secret to comfort is also the secret to happiness, and it involves three things: bathing in the sea, basking in your home, and forgiving your mom.

June 21, 2024

I can’t help but think of an analogy in the Snow Peak Takibi Solo Portable Fireplace . What could be more leonine than a personal inferno? The portable fireplace (also known as your sweetest Leo) is theoretically always ready for any adventure — it might be a forbidden beach fire in Malibu that may or may not get the fire department called on you by quasi-well-meaning cliffside residents with way too much disposable income, and thus time to be nemeses of fun. Perhaps it’s an unexpected cannonball at a rooftop hotel pool party that beckons the bouncer to remind your precious Leo performer to conduct themselves with a bit more decorum (what’s that?). Maybe it’s a 4 a.m. love confession that almost feels angry, that’s pained with the agonizing passion that only an expansive lion heart could ever conjure. For no one loves like a Leo, that burning, beating organ that, when aligned and evolved, gives just as much and just as generously to others as they do to themselves.

For no one loves like a Leo, that burning, beating organ that, when aligned and evolved, gives just as much and just as generously to others as they do to themselves.

In that vein (or flame), who better than a Leo to teach the rest of us the sacred art of loving ourselves, of being so unabashedly oneself that people, places, situations and energies just can’t help but bend like flowers toward a welcoming, nourishing midday sunray? The Takibi fireplace is silver, reflective — an homage to the infectious way a Leo’s self-love mirrors all the empty spaces in everyone around them that could use some compassion. And, as what is above is also below, we must acknowledge the plight of a wounded Leo, of the darkly misanthropic nihilism that can, and often does, shroud their heart in a titanium veil of protection. A Leo scorned is as dangerous as a forest fire in the night, furious at rejection by the very world they bleed out for. How exhausting it must be to bear that burden of joy, to be compelled to entertain through the tears. Indeed, when the time comes, the Takibi fireplace’s contents are extinguished and the stainless-steel apparatus is packed up until the next flame calls.

And so, this is a love letter dedicated to our cherished Leos — we thank you for your service. May your feline flame burn eternal, for the world would be so dark and so cold without you.

The result of a wonderful passion for creating ship models is this 1:50 scale model of the 126-metre luxury motor yacht OCTOPUS , which was built by the prestigious German shipyard Lurssen in 2003. Jurgen Goller and Roland Hache constructed the 2,52 metre superyacht OCTOPUS model and presented it for the first time on water this September. Roland Hache also built a model of the motor yacht Lady Lola (see picture at the bottom of the article).

It took two years to build the Octopus Yacht Model and she was built based only on pictures and different photos found on the internet. The two friends had absolutely no access to the general plans, layout drawings or any other designs of the original yacht.

The hull of the Octopus Yacht Model was constructed in GFK and ABS, polyester and wood were used for the rest of the parts. The railing was created using different metal parts.

Weighing 62kg, the model is fitted with 2 Bosch electrical engines and has a lead acid battery of 12 V – 7,5 Ah with a duration of about 4 hours. It has impressive 460 led lights on its five decks, which can be regulated thanks to a dimmer, showing her elegant silhouette when put on water at night.

"Good morning, My name is Hxxxx Sxxxx and am currently coordinating a project between NAVCENT [ U.S. Naval Forces Central Command ] and CENTCOM [ United States Central Command] . We just have a quick question about your product listing for the USS Arleigh Burke. Do you have versions of these photos that are not watermarked that we could use in a public affairs article or announcement? Pictures of the actual ship do not work for what we have in mind and the model on your site is a very high fidelity reproduction . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time. V/r, Hxxxx Sxxxx, Effects Coordinator. CENTCOM CCJ39"

" I received the long expected crown jewel yesterday. What a fabulous piece of work. I am so impressed! Especially the car deck with real working door hinges, it just blew me away! This will be a family heirloom from me to my son, who also couldn't stop staring when he saw it... Thanks again modelshipmaster for making my dreams come true!  With the best regards, Max" ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"The Hartford arrived yesterday: FANTASTIC piece of art!!! I really liked the way it was crated – amazing. I took the crate apart screw by screw, and the only mishap I had was that I busted the life boat hanger on one side when I pulled the blue tape off, but I think I will be able to repair. Looks great on the mantel. I will be in the market for another one of your ships very soon. Thanks for the excellent work!  Mike R." ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"I just unpacked my Wanderer and it is beyond my highest hopes. You did a masterful job in recreating this historic whaler! It is the centerpiece of my "man cave" and I'm sure will become a family heirloom. Almost equally amazing was the craftsmanship of the shipping crate. I have to admit, I was a bit worried about how such a large, detailed and delicate model would survive the transport but your custom fitted crate supported and protected it perfectly. Thank you for everything and feel free to post this if you like, Terry" ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"Words fail me at the exquisite model y’all produced and delivered. My wife laughed out loud in surprise and delight. She’ll spend the next week deciding where to highlight it in our home. Many thanks, gentlemen! I couldn’t be more pleased. With complete admiration, Ron"

" Trireme is of micro-museum detail quality... better than expected, arrived timely, undamaged, packaged like the Crown Jewels.  Heartily recommend your products.  Alex Texas."   ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"Hello Frank, The 62" Normandie did arrive yesterday in perfect condition. The model was packed so well I don’t think anything could have really happened to it. Thank You. The ship exceeds all expectations. You and your team are truly fine craftsmen. This is my favorite ship, and I’m so happy I chose Model Ship Masters. Not only is the ship a work of art, but with the lights and being RC, it’s like the Normandie is back alive. Thank you so much. Sincerely, George W."

"I gave a really close look at the photos of the QM2. I am a meticulous person by nature, exacting. The mechanical engineer in me. I just cannot believe the detail on the QM2. I commend you and the craftsmen in your company for your work. I do model railroading and collect ‘exact’ replicas of passenger cars and locomotives. Regards, Paul"

And more than impressed with the packaging for shipment. Just wanted to thank you and your team on a great job and I will cherish this ship always. I may even order another but will definitely order once again from you and your team. Once again thank you so very much. James Buday, Canada, 1/20/2023."   ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"I cannot thank you and your team enough for the absolutely magnificent liners that your team constructed for me.  I am a mechanical engineer by trade in the railroad industry and also collect model trains. I look for authenticity in my models. Your liners are in a class of their own. And, best of all, they are constructed here in the United States. Paul J. Messina, Program Manager. "She made it into port unscathed and fully intact. Y'all did an amazing awesome job with it. I really love it. It deserves to be on constant display in my living room where it can be seen by anyone who enters in. Thank you very much for keeping me informed and paying attention to detail so heavily. I’m thrilled with the craftsmanship :) Thanks, Bert" ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞   "I can't thank you enough. It's like you built the tugs for yourself--very high standard. The packaging was so good that it's like we needed a bomb squad. They can't move inside the crates... I will show them to my tugboat association. Your pricing is so fair that I am sure will get you several jobs. Thanks again, Columbus" ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"Just to let you know SS United States model and display case arrived safe and sound. Beautifully packaged. I think it could have withstood a direct nuclear strike. Interestingly flew over the real SS United States rusting in Philadelphia same day I got home to put the model into its display case. Such a pity to see such a great, beautiful ship deteriorate. I sailed her 4 times and on her sister ship SS America twice. Best, Allan Hamilton"   ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞   "Just to let you guys know that my U99 arrived safe and sound.  Loved the model and I look forward to the Bismarck when it finally gets here. Can I say that the packaging was truly professional and so finely put together. You have a great little carpenter there.  Can I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year, Best wishes, Lorne. N"   ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"I just wanted you to know that both ships arrived in perfect condition along with the cases. They are magnificent! I cannot believe the detail and workmanship. You and your staff are to be commended!  Thank you again and again!  Eric"   ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

I am also amazed of your transport and post service that, in the middle of Christmas managed to deliver this big box in my hotel in NY.  All this only encourages me to do more things with you during 2010, God willing. I think the MOSHULU would be a good one.  By the way, I loved your Reina del Mar replica. Have a happy Christmas, Luis"     ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"The Normandie arrived last Friday after taking a few  days to get through customs. I was  so impressed by the way it was packed. It arrived in pristine condition. Please convey my sincere thanks to those involved in making it a masterpiece. The beauty of this ship reinforces my view and those of others that the Normandie is the most beautiful ocean liner ever built. Having been a designer myself this ship represents art, architecture and design so far advanced for the time it was built. Robin, New Zealand"     ∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞

"You were kind enough to suggest the steps I should follow to unpack it which worked out nicely. I very much appreciated the most secure packaging. I was most fortunate to serve as a substitute Third Mate on the SS United States for four round trip voyages to Northern Europe from NYC (voyages 393, 394, 395 and 396 from July 17, 1969 to September 10, 1069). Your precision and masterful work on the model is truly superb and brings back some terrific memories. Thank you. Regards, Harry 214-718-xxxx"

I, however, am much more future oriented, and very aware of the fact that items of high quality but limited appeal to the general public may not be available in the future....books that aren't on the best seller list, classical music recordings, etc. There is always a niche market for high quality items, but it frequently becomes very expensive. Unfortunately, we live in a culture where it is nearly impossible to go broke making mediocre movies or producing annoying and cloned rap music, but quality, if not priced "competitively", frequently becomes extinct, in the mass market sense...try finding a a good quality toaster or other small appliance at any price.

I fully plan on unveiling all of the acquisitions when we have more space, I hope, in a few years, assuming I don't prematurely expire ( I am 63, but in much better shape than most my age... I should know, I'm a physician ). However, no one's future is assured.

Interestingly enough, my wife inquired today as to whether a friend of hers could bring her grandchildren over to see my ship models, as they seem to have a fascination for sailing ships (probably watched Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean too many times), so I would say that's a positive sign.

Anyway, as usual, I have probably communicated more than you wish to hear.  Keep the colors flying and thanks to all your artisans for their greatly appreciated efforts. Scott B."
