10 Fascinating Facts About ‘Loon,’ the 221-Foot Superyacht That Gets the Coolest Toys First

With the ever-expanding portfolio of charter yachts vying for attention, the 221-foot Loon took to social media to showcase its offerings. Not just with a Facebook page of pretty destinations, but with an Instagram account that now has 140,000 followers and a YouTube channel with 122,000 folks who watch its journeys.
The yacht, previously christened Icon, splashed in 2010 when it left the Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts. Purchased in 2023 by owners who named the yacht after their lakehouse residents, the loon bird, it is now widely recognized on the charter scene, thanks partly to its social-media presence but mostly because of its eclectic crew.
Captain Paul Clarke, who has been with the owner since 2017 and created the social-media frenzy, made his way from the vessel’s smaller siblings to helm this third generation of yachts named Loon. An overflowing toy box and tenders that include a wake-surfing boat, as well as an inventory of all the top brands, have made this an exceptional charter vessel, with IYC being the primary brokers.
The yacht’s timeless lines and contemporary features are a testament to RWD Design’s forward-thinking philosophy. “ Loon has many features which are only now being incorporated into today’s yachts,” Clarke told Robb Report.
Here are 10 cool facts about this social superyacht.
An impressive catalog of toys is a given on any reputable charter yacht, but Loon ‘s toy trove is a cut above the rest. “Those who have the most toys win—this has always been our mantra,” says Capt. Paul Clarke. “For instance, most yachts have two Jet Skis, we have four. We apply that philosophy across the toy spectrum.” It is a thrill-a-minute onboard with Seabobs, wakeboards, scuba equipment, foils, and more towables and inflatables than one can get on in a week. Loon is regularly asked to test toys before they hit the market. “We always get pre-release toys to demo. We were also the first superyacht to carry Lift foils,” adds Clarke.
A Singing, Dancing Crew
The linchpin holding a great charter together is the crew. But Loon raises the bar with its onboard team, who are born entertainers. Besides their regular duties, crewmembers double as a scuba instructor, a masseuse, a pro kitesurfer, a personal trainer, a yoga instructor, and even a DJ. The chief engineer provides an added layer of charm with his guitar skills for evening soirees. “I always hire crew who have secondary skills,” says Clarke.
The Influencer
If it isn’t on social media, did it even happen? Clarke started Loon ‘s social accounts back in the day to share the wealth of content he gathered from shooting videos of guests. Today, Loon has a crew member whose sole job is to create content with “equipment in hand 24/7.” This person, using drones and an occasional helicopter, creates charter memories with videography, photography, and other content-creation skills. Clarke says Loon is the only superyacht to have this dedicated position. The strategy has paid off. The vessel has 143,000 Instagram followers and 121,000 YouTube subscribers tuning in to watch its every move.
Loon-Inspired Inflatables
Aside from the yacht’s signature beach club, Loon literally expands for on-the-water playtime. In fact, the yacht is more than a consumer of water toys. It’s an influencer. Inflatable manufacturer FunAir developed its Beach Club Sea Pool, the first-of-its-kind inflatable Yacht Slide (with a stylish carbon-fiber finish) specifically for this yacht. This section serves as a bumper point for toys and launchpad for Jet Skis. The netted surroundings also protect swimmers from currents and jellyfish.
Looney Activities
Loon’ s activities regularly catch the eyes of onlookers. The vessel’s G23 Nautique is ideal for wake surfing. However, when chartering, the professional poker player and influencer Dan Bilzerian decided to take water stunts up a notch or two and wake-surf behind the yacht itself. While Loon regularly has “tons of A-listers” on board doing epic things, stunts are also for the crew. For its Instagram feed, the crew have leaped over the bow dressed as Thanksgiving turkeys and pulled off impressive kitesurfing jumps. The next booked charter will include magicians, helicopters, fire breathers, and a renowned DJ. “We try to make it extraordinary no matter who the guest is,” says Clarke.
The Honey Bees
Teaming up with the biodynamic honey producers at Hikian in southern Finland, Loon has adopted its own beehive and features the honey in its cuisine. The buzz around this premium honey is that the bees thrive in the unspoiled air of the Finnish forest. As well as the flavor, the honey also accompanies the chef’s creations.
Crypto Charters
Two years ago, the former Loon was the first superyacht to accept charter fees in cryptocurrency. Fast forward to now, the current Loon continues to accept Bitcoin for bookings. Embracing crypto transactions is not just another form of payment but also a nod to a younger yachting clientele.
Involved in Rescue Missions
This Caribbean charter season has already seen Loon involved in two successful search-and-rescue missions. The first was retrieving an overturned fishing boat at the request of the U.S. Coast Guard. Just before Christmas, Loon also responded to another search and rescue that came from a couple scuba diving in the Dog Islands. Clarke sent the tender ahead to locate the missing woman who had been swept out. “It could have ended much worse if the rescue hadn’t come together so quickly,” he says.
The Main Suite Built Around the Bathtub
The interior styling by Studio Linse is inviting across all seven cabins, but the one that really catches the eye is the full-beam primary suite. With neutral and contemporary aesthetics, it is located on the main deck, where large windows flood the space with natural light. But the spotlight really shines on the impressive three-ton stone bathtub in the ensuite. It had to be installed before the deck was put on—a true commitment to a relaxing soak.
Well Connected
Loon keeps everyone connected wherever it is anchored by remaining fully hooked up to the onboard Starlink system. Besides fast Wi-Fi for work or socializing, entertainment demands are also met, thanks to the fully integrated Apple TV system, delivering every kind of movie on the yacht’s big screens. The electronic bells and whistles continue in the bridge, which recently saw upgrades to the 26-inch touchscreen panels that control all elements of the yacht.

68m Icon Yachts superyacht Loon joins market
The 67.5-metre Icon Yachts superyacht Loon has joined the market with Jim McConville of Merle Wood & Associates.
Designed by British studio RWD , with interior by Studio Linse , the steel and aluminium motor yacht, delivered by Icon Yachts in 2010 and refitted in 2020, has built up an enviable charter reputation, the broker reporting over $13 million in gross revenues in 18 months.
Accommodation is bright and airy with a seven-cabin layout for up to 13 guests. A duplex owner's suite with a 180-degree viewing lounge and private terrace has proved to be very popular. The VIP is located on the upper deck with the remaining guest cabins on the lower deck.
Features abound, a highlight being the raised main deck pool with panels of glass allowing light to filter through and illuminate the beach club below, where a bar, gym and massage room are located. The boat was extended by five metres in 2014 by Icon Yachts, enlarging the beach club considerably.
One unusual people-flow design highlight is that the beach club is directly accessible from the lower deck guests cabins, avoiding dripping through the saloon and negotiating staircases in wet swimwear. Guests can walk out of their cabins straight towards the sea, via the beach club aft.
The 1,295GT yacht for sale is powered by twin MTU diesels, totalling 4,960hp, giving her a top speed of 16 knots, cruising speed of 12.5 knots and range of 6,000 nautical miles. Tenders are stowed in a garage forward keeping the decks clear.
Lying in the Western Mediterranean, Loon is asking $47,500,000. VAT is paid.

Text description provided by the architects. The National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan is located in a building erected in 1987 for the Kazan branch of the Lenin Central Museum. The building, clad in Armenian tufa stone thus resembling the image of a waving Soviet flag, is one of the centerpieces of Kazan and a significant example of late Soviet architecture. After the collapse of the USSR, the National Cultural Center "Kazan" was located there, which also housed a Kazan City Museum until recently. The most notable achievement of the project, whilst being respectful to the material and spatial features of the original design, was to transform a somber and outdated structure into a vibrant and lively public space.
The historic architecture of the Tatars reveals quite consonant approaches to the late Soviet "monumentality" in relation to both the organization of space and the use of materials and color solutions. In line with the essence of the historical architecture of Tatarstan and with attention to the Soviet heritage, materials are used in their simplest yet the most solemn form.
The central double-height vestibule connects the core functions of the building and the Kazanka river embankment with the city square. Thus, the vestibule connects not only the different parts of the building but also the various fragments of the urban fabric surrounding the building. The vertical surfaces of the vestibule are resolved with green serpentine, white marble, sandstone, and white plaster. The floor is a breccia with rocks of similar colors, whilst the ceiling is finished with visually seamless grainy acoustic panels.
To the west of the vestibule, on the ground floor, there are the public library's multifunctional spaces, including reading spaces for toddlers, children, and adolescents, a computer lab, and a music room. This part of the National Library is the most remarkable since it is as open and inclusive as possible for all user groups. Its interiors are resolved in a progressive, ascetic and democratic manner, using the natural texture of concrete, metal, and glass, soft furnishings in soothing colors, and accent lighting.
To the east of the vestibule, on the second floor, there are reading spaces of an academic library. The architecture of the academic library spaces pays homage to late-modernist Soviet architecture. Spatially, with respect to the original museum floor layout, the library space inherits a stepped structure composed of three successive levels. These levels are effectively housing spaces for both individual and group studies, catalogue area, linear exhibition space and a remarkable sculpture - “Antiwar Demonstration” - an artifact from the original design.
The ceiling of this part of the National Library is resolved by an ornamental pattern of tubular skylights and artificial lighting. The floors are epoxy terrazzo of warm beige binder filled with brown and gray marble stone aggregates, walls are plastered white, furniture and wall paneling are finished in natural oak. In addition to major library spaces, the National Library building accommodates a conference hall, the Whitebox exhibition hall, the Blackbox hall, a recording studio, lecture halls, staff offices, and several book depositories.

Minnikhanov to regional leaders: ‘Some of our colleagues have a very bad attitude to milk”
The Tatarstan president criticised municipalities for bad performance and universities for insufficient scientific research at a session of the Ministry of Agriculture
A three-day agricultural exposition TatAgroExpo 2020 opened in Kazan-Expo exhibition centre on 12 February. Opening the business agenda of this event, the president of Tatarstan participated at an extended session of the republican Ministry of Agriculture, which Realnoe Vremya’s correspondent visited. In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov criticised some regional leaders for lowering indicators in agricultural produce, indicated agricultural universities’ rectors’ shortcomings and asked them to eliminate them. Read more about this in our report.
Not only to buy equipment but also repair it
According to Tatarstan’s Minister of Agriculture Marat Zyabbarov, the level of wear of the agricultural machinery fleet in Tatarstan is evaluated at 60%, this is why it should be renewed more actively. And, in Rustam Minnikhanov’s opinion, it would be incorrect to limit to purchases of new machinery only: it is necessary to seriously repair already existing tractors, combines and other machines. The president considers that such work needs to be entrusted only to specialised enterprises that can provide a guarantee for their work.
“We have already had experience in repairing KAMAZ lorries in the republic’s backbone enterprises. There are small enterprises that repair foreign agricultural machines three times cheaper. One thing is to allocate money to purchase new equipment, but we should create a system to maintain a good technical state of machines and equipment,” Rustam Minnikhanov is sure.
To refuse substandard seeds and use more fertilisers
In his report, the president indicated a difference in crop harvest, which is seen in every household: if successful enterprises receive no less than 40 centners of grains per hectare, their unlucky rivals do 20 at best. Minnikhanov thinks the use of substandard seeds and unreasonable economy of fertilisers are the reason for such non-compliance.
“We lost 300,000 tonnes of grains every year because of bad-quality seeds. It is necessary to pay attention to this problem. Fertilisers are another important theme, 25 kilogrammes per hectare is too little. It is necessary to look for financial schemes that allow using more. We, in turn, provide all supporting measures. Yes, the amount of federal subsidies is limited, but let’s work with the ministry, perhaps, we can create some additional resources.”
In addition, according to the president, the Ministry of Agriculture should cooperate with banks better to provide agriculturists with resources they need for a good spring sowing campaign.
Minnikhanov thanked TAIF and Tatneft for supporting Tatarstan agriculturists
But there shouldn’t be any problem with fuel: Tatarstan oil companies have already promised to provide local agriculturists with diesel fuel at concessionary prices.
“Our oil companies render huge support to agriculturists. Both Tatneft and TAIF promised to help this year,” the president noted.
“Let’s give them a round of applause for this, it is serious support.”
According to head of the agriculture ministry Marat Zyabbarov, agricultural entities of Tatarstan consume over 180,000 tonnes of fuel in total, of which 140,000 tonnes are supposed to be obtained at preferential prices.
Mendeleyevsk District is outsiders in milk production
Tatarstan is a leader among Russian regions in raw milk production. This type of production is one of the key income sources for the republic’s agricultural enterprises. In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov singled out the regions that lead in “white gold” production and criticised outsiders.
“Production in Kukmor exceeded 300 tonnes of milk a day, it is a big victory, huge labour. Atna District has 265 tonnes, Baltasi — 246 tonnes, Saba — 209 tonnes. These municipalities systematically work with milk well. But some of our colleagues have a very bad attitude to milk,” the head of the republic complained. “It is Mendeleyevsk District (14 tonnes a day), Cheremshan (17 tonnes), Bugulma (17 tonnes), Kama Ustye (20 tonnes)… 20 tonnes a day now is a production volume of a normal leading household, and here it is how much the whole district produces… How do households operate in these municipalities? How do they plan to run the business? Because it is necessary to provide people with jobs.”
It is noteworthy that as a leader in gross milk production, Tatarstan is even not in the top 10 Russian regions in productivity, that’s to say, the average milk yield per cow. The president assumed that it might happen due to the specifics of statistics, however, he urged the Ministry of Agriculture to pay attention to stock breeding, cattle selection.
Supporting measures for enterprises with no activity
The president in his speech talked about state supporting measures too that the federal and republican budgets provide agriculturists with. It turns out that not all investments work well.
“I was given information that some cooperative societies that received support that don’t run their activity. These materials were sent to the court, but somebody should have looked carefully before giving support,” Minnikhanov reminded. “We don’t have extra money, I am asking to make sure everything strictly complies with the regulations approved by the republic’s government. Those who give and receive public money must feel personal responsibility.”
To take abandoned land away from negligent owners
There are enough fields in Tatarstan that haven’t been used. According to Russia’s agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor that Rustam Minnikhanov cited, only 8 out of 43,000 abandoned hectares started to be used again last year. The president had most complaints about Verkhny Uslon, Laishevo, Almetyevsk and Zelenodolsk Districts.
“Not only the districts are guilty here, some owners that have an unclear stance. They should use all legal methods more: both in taxation and punishment. Every case must be considered together with regional leaders. All services — Rosselkhoznadzor, Ministry of Agriculture, Russian Roster — should join this work,” the president urged. “I have an aide who should deal with these issues. It is land, we should care about it because we won’t have more of it. Every centimetre has a value, and not only we but also the next generations should reap the benefits this land gives. The task is not to take parcels away from someone but to make sure the land benefits those who live on it.”
Export: focus on halal
The agricultural complex of Tatarstan hasn’t so far reached estimated indicators of exports. The president asked the audience to create all possibilities of increasing exports. Rustam Minnikhanov sees a lot of room in selling halal agricultural produce.
“We have good relationships with OIC countries, we could promote halal produce through these tools,” the president thinks. “We should bring our potential to light during Kazan Summit we will have in summer as much as possible.”
“Rural territories should be as attractive as our cities”
Ensuring the conservation of a sufficient population in the countryside is one of the key strategic tasks of the agro-industrial complex. For this purpose, it is necessary to not only provide people with jobs but also create a comfortable environment to live in settlements.
“Rural territories should be as attractive as our cities. All the necessary infrastructure must be created there. Now we are implementing a big programme designed to build houses, but if we build them only near big cities, nobody will be living in the countryside soon, everyone will move to the city. This is why we should create jobs there and find tools to support private housing development in the countryside,” Minnikhanov is convinced.
Moreover, the president asked his subordinates to continue supporting private households, including through cooperation.
