One of Sydney's most exclusive private clubs, perched bang smack on Sydney Harbour... visited by a social who's who of members. Endless posh club facilities - which you can't enjoy unless you get signed in by a member. Get past the gate, and it feels kinda French Riviera outside on the deck... lounging around on plush white couches... next to the water festooned with gleaming luxury vessels. Down a little too much Veuve, stroll along the pier and make like a millionaire as you consider you're next floating investment. Just try and narrow it down to one. Then return to the bar and drink a little more Veuve... cool off in the harbourside pool and grab a leisurely lunch in the uber chic restaurant. A relatively recent restaurant fit out by Mike McCann of Concrete Blonde fame feels timeless, elegant and a little bit Colorado cabin on the water come winter with timber panelled walls and open fireplaces. Of course, the panoramic views of Sydney Harbour is a constant reminder that you are not in fact in Colorado... but the contrast works well nevertheless. Summer Sundays seafood buffets are a must. How many prawns can one consume in a single sitting? Only one way to find out. There once were jet skis on offer for endless Harbour fun, until Bob Carr put a lid on them. Cheers Bob. Well, back to the bar then I guess...

A truly beautiful venue, the RMYC at Point Piper is one of the more exclusive yacht clubs in Sydney. It can be tricky to get through the doors here as it is members only (unless you're attending a function of course) but there are ways to get around this. For example, the club has reciprocal rights to other RMYCs in Sydney that don't have as stringent membership policies. Once you're in you'll take the lift to the harbour front restaurant which is done in casual chic décor (mostly white, of course). It's my family tradition to have Christmas lunch here. Each year there is a fantastic three course set menu which always leaves you feeling full and jolly like you should on Christmas. There is nothing better than taking a stroll along the pier after lunch to ogle the boats docked here. If you fancy a swim there is an outdoor pool you can dip in and sun chairs that you can recline and relax in. Overall this place is a fantastic venue for a special occasion, you just might need to sneak in!

Point Piper, Sydney: A Purely Residential Suburb With Serious Views

A postcard-perfect neighborhood in much demand, many of the properties at point piper are either right on the water or with views of the bay..

Few neighborhoods sit as pretty as Point Piper. In a best-of-both-worlds scenario, this tony suburb just minutes from the city has enviable Sydney skyline, Harbour Bridge, and opera house views, all without the commotion and crowds.

Boundaries:

Set out on a peninsula surrounded by water, Point Piper is just six kilometers east of downtown Sydney. It’s bordered to the south by the suburbs of Bellevue Hill and Double Bay.

Price range:

As with any neighborhood catering to upscale residents, one will need to have their finances in order to afford one of the enviable properties here—many of which are either right on the water or with views of the bay.

"Houses start at about A$8 million (US$6 million) with the highest sale at A$52 million (US$39.5 million) but there are even more expensive homes in Point Piper that have not yet come to the market," reports Ken Jacobs, managing director of Christie’s International Real Estate in Sydney. "Apartments range from about A$1 million (US$749,000) for a small, older-style unit and up to A$13 million (US$9.7 million) at the high end."

More: Australia’s Most Expensive Home Is Being Marketed to Chinese Buyers

Housing stock:

Multi-story mansions, grand Italianate and Victorian homes, and Arts and Crafts cottages are traditionally found lining the leafy streets of Point Piper. In recent years, new construction has given rise to more eclectic, contemporary-leaning homes.

A four-bedroom, six-bathroom home with sweeping harbour views is on the market at an undisclosed price.

What makes it unique:

The unobstructed views of iconic Sydney landmarks coupled with a secluded setting, make this spot postcard perfect and very much in demand.

Francis Egan of Sotheby's International Realty in Sydney adds that, "Point Piper is unique because it’s a very small peninsula with prime harborside position, and a high number of waterfronts, given the suburb’s small size." He also notes that just by the nature of being on a peninsula, there’s no through traffic and only 11 streets in total, so it’s also rather tranquil.

"Point Piper has always been an affluent suburb," says Mr. Egan, "And it’s consistently ranked among the most expensive suburbs in the country, with [its] Wolseley Road ranking globally as one of the most exclusive addresses on the planet."

More: Banking Tycoon John Symond’s Sydney Mega-Mansion Looks to Set a Price Record

Luxe amenities in the neighborhood:

Point Piper is almost entirely residential, with the exception of two beaches and two yacht clubs: The Royal Motor Yacht Club and the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club.

"There are no restaurants, shops or schools in Point Piper proper," Mr. Jacobs says, "However, very good schools are located in the adjoining suburb of Bellevue Hill, and there are great shops and restaurants in the Double Bay." Nearby prestigious private schools include the Cranbrook, Ascham, Kambala and Kincoppal-Rose Bay schools and Scots College.

Who lives there now:

As the price of entry would indicate, this swank suburb is a highly polished mix of business owners, doctors, lawyers, and professionals who are in the top of their fields. Australians make up the bulk of homeowners here, but it does turn heads of in-the-know foreign buyers as well.

Notable residents:

If invited to a dinner party in this exclusive enclave, you’ll want to study up on your current events as Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his wife, Lucy Turnbull, are residents. The founder of Australian shopping center company Westfield Group, Frank Lowy, as well as John Symond, the founder of Aussie Home Loans, also call the neighborhood home.

Despite low inventory, Mr. Egan says that, "Demand in Point Piper remains exceedingly high, given the small size of the suburb and its outstanding position in Sydney harbour." Mr. Jacobs concurs, adding that, "Point Piper is pretty much a gilt-edged investment location, and it will remain so because of the natural attributes."

General Information

The Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club (RPEYC) is a private yacht club located on Felix Bay, Point Piper on the southern shoreline of Sydney Harbour.

There are currently 500 members of the RPEYC. Guests are welcome when accompanied by a Member.

The RPEYC hosts Wednesday afternoon racing in four divisions from October through to April and is also very active in race management of its own regattas as well as managing many of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron’s Saturday races.

The Clubhouse was purpose-built in 1924 as a yacht club, 2 years after the land was acquired and proffers spectacular views of the harbour from the Clubhouse and lawn. Many of the original features are still very evident. The full sized billiard table was “borrowed” in the 1930’s from the Commodore while he was overseas and remains to this day for use in the Club. The first floor of the Clubhouse consists of the Club Bar, full sized billiard table, a large lounge room and separate dining room overlooking Shark Island.  Apart from fully catered lunches and dinners, the lounge and dining room are used extensively for information evenings and talks related to sailing.  Members are permitted to host their own private functions at the Club, catered to their specific requirements.

The grounds of the RPEYC include a dingy and kayak storage shed with a davit for lifting dinghies to road level and a barbeque. Tables and chairs are located on both the front and rear lawns, used predominantly for outside dining and entertainment. The front lawn leads onto Lady Martin’s beach, a popular sandy harbour beach for members and the public to use.

WHAT’S LIVING IN Point Piper LIKE?

Point Piper is a small suburb in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. Like many of its neighbors, its real estate is among the most expensive in Australia. Mansions line its exclusive streets, many of which have incredible views of the harbour and Sydney CBD (in fact, some residents have illegally poisoned trees to make their views a little bit better).

This is an exclusively residential neighborhood, so for dining and shopping you'll need to head to neighboring Rose Bay or Double Bay. It does have more of one thing than any other part of Sydney: Yacht Clubs. When you're a gazillionaire you don't want your boat to be far away. Both the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club and the Royal Motor Yacht Club of NSW are located here.

Point Piper is bordered on the west, north, and east by Sydney Harbour and on the south by Bellevue Hill .

Thank you so much once again for all your work and support leading up to the wedding and on the day. Your team is wonderful and so professional. We have people still talking about the service and the quality of the food and that dessert bar - which was amazing! The evening just flowed with no hiccups and was absolutely perfect. The only complaint from people we got was that it wasn’t long enough. We had such a fantastic time and wouldn’t change a thing.

Dear Laura, Just a quick thank you email to you and all the staff at Zest for a fabulous night last Saturday to celebrate Emma and Sam’s wedding. We all had a wonderful evening. The food was delicious, the staff charming and attentive throughout the night. You have quite a remarkable team at Zest and it is very apparent when hosting such an event! You made it all seem effortless. Many of our guests have complimented Emma, Sam and me on the fabulous venue, food (particularly the roving deserts) wine and the impeccable service. So to all the staff and management at Zest thank you for your professionalism, courtesy and attention to detail. I would particularly like to thank Matthew who managed the evening so competently and you Laura for coordinating everything in the planning stage and answering all our queries so completely. You certainly made us feel at ease.
