Integrated production from the very beginning

On 4 March 1957, the mill Maglificio Daco, founded in 1921, opened its doors under the new owner Gian Ludovico Dini. Every aspect of the production took place within the company: from sourcing the yarns to producing the fabrics and making all the packaging. Clothes were shipped around the world thanks to prestigious partnerships with Christian Dior and Balenciaga.

A journey and an inspiration

At the start of the 1970s, Paolo (Paul) Dini, the eldest son of Gian Ludovico, during a trip to a small sailmaker's workshop in Maine, found a sail from an old 18th-century clipper that caught his attention: the inscription read "Paul&Shark". It was fate. The Paul&Shark brand was born.

A yachting collection

The yachting collection dates back to the mid-1970s, when Paul&Shark entered the luxury sportswear sector with a collection inspired by the sea, the world of sailing and the spirit of adventure.

The birth of an icon

In 1978 the C0P918 pullover was born: a sailing sweater that would become an icon of the Paul&Shark style: immediately recognizable from its packaging, a metal used onboard boats as a multi-purpose container. The water-repellent sweater had immediate success and signaled the start of a whole new water-repellent knitwear collection.

Over the years the company has expanded to become a comprehensive smart casual and luxury sportswear brand, famous for the quality of its garnments, appreciated by fans of Italian design and high-performance technical materials, many of which have been patented by Paul&Shark.

TYPHOON 20000 uses an ultra-thin membrane that’s impenetrable for water. Any person that wears a garment with this treatment can trust that they’ll stay dry, even in the most turbulent waters.

Brave the Winds

The ocean can be not only cold but also windy. Harsh winds can make it feel colder than it really is, which can put a damper on any  yachting trip .

TYPHOON 20000 uses a revolutionary process that allows every square centimetre of the fabric to withstand a 20-meter column. Not only that, but it’ll also hold up against strong gusts of wind.

Feel Comfortable

Often, waterproof and windproof materials don’t feel very comfortable; they tend to trap heat and sweat. The technology for TYPHOON 20000 changes all this.

This treatment is a membrane that’s highly breathable, which helps with air circulation. This breathability won’t have you sitting and soaking in sweat, as it’ll disperse excess body heat.

In addition, Paul & Shark line their garments with thermometric stitching. This helps keep you warm with little rubbing and chafing.

Partnership With Formula One Driver Antonio Giovinazzi

In March 2021, the brand partnered with Italian Formula One driver Antonio Giovinazzi. Like Gallinari, Giovinazzi will also represent this company as a brand ambassador.

Appointment of New Worldwide Travel Retail Director

in July 2021, Paul & Shark appointed Silvia Santin as their new Worldwide Travel Retail Director. She has extensive experience in the fashion and travels retail business. She’s also served on the Tax-Free World Association Management Committee.

Collaboration With White Mountaineering

White Mountaineering is a Japanese label known for its urban look. These 2 brands came together for a fall 2021 capsule collaboration, which features all-black garments. The selection ranges from jackets and sweaters to T-shirts and vests.

Partnership With Shark Trust

Paul & Shark partnered with Shark Trust to bring a capsule collection. There’s a special logo designed by the Shark Trust that appears on these garments. 10% of sales from these pieces will be donated to this organization.

Second Life Project

This brand aims to reduce waste by repairing defective garments and repurposing them as new unique pieces. 20% of the proceeds are given to various sustainable projects in the world.

Anyone familiar with Paul & Shark?

They used to have a retail store in Atlanta; it was open a year or two, I think. Kind of nice resort/sailing/golf etc. wear. I thought it seemed overpriced, but at their store they had big sales periodically. I found the line to be overly "branded" myself. DH  

Paul & Shark It is an Italian company (notwithstanding the name...). I bought a couple of sweaters from them many years ago and I was quite surprised by how long they lasted and how well they held their shape. I am not crazy about the style right now, but that is of course a matter of personal preference.

It retailed for 1500.00 but was marked down to 550.00, which is still a little pricey, but tempting. I'm not familiar with the brand, was wondering if there are any fans of Paul & Shark on here. Flanderian called it. They are very pricey, very good quality and they offer a slightly weird assortment of clothes but I like all their sailing/boating related sportswear. They are also WILDLY knocked off and ebay is polluted with counterfeit stuff so you would have to tread super lightly picking up anything P&S on Ebay. One drawback as mentioned is that on some items they tend to plaster their logo all over it.  

B ig & tall Some of their stuff is offered in Rochester Big & Tall, usually 6 to 10 pieces. Made in Italy, bit pricey $350 for a cotton sport shirt, much like Cutter & Buck in cloth & color selection. Bought a sweater & polo last year on sale...well made not really a full cut but not snug. While I can't fault their quality, I was put off them by the fact that every airport and high-end mall in SE Asia seemed to have a P&S store. Irrational, but there it is.  

I have worn Paul & Shark for a number of years. Great quality and decent styles. I currently have a few pairs of their shoes, several shirts, and a jacket.  

Best brand for true "Italian" look. Very pricey!

Paul&Shark

On 4 March 1957, the mill Maglificio Daco, founded in 1921, opened its doors under the new owner Gian Ludovico Dini. Every aspect of the production took place within the company: from sourcing the yarns to producing the fabrics and making all the packaging. Clothes were shipped around the world thanks to prestigious partnerships with Christian Dior and Balenciaga.

At the start of the 1970s, Paolo (Paul) Dini, the eldest son of Gian Ludovico, during a trip to a small sailmaker’s workshop in Maine, found a sail from an old 18th-century clipper that caught his attention: the inscription read “Paul&Shark”.

It was fate.

The Paul&Shark brand was born.

The yachting collection dates back to the mid-1970s, when Paul&Shark entered the luxury sportswear sector with a collection inspired by the sea, the world of sailing and the spirit of adventure.

In 1978 the C0P918 pullover was born: a sailing sweater that would become an icon of the Paul&Shark style: immediately recognizable from its packaging, a metal used onboard boats as a multi-purpose container. The water-repellent sweater had immediate success and signaled the start of a whole new water-repellent knitwear collection.

Over the years the company has expanded to become a comprehensive smart casual and luxury sportswear brand, famous for the quality of its garnments, appreciated by fans of Italian design and high-performance technical materials, many of which have been patented by Paul&Shark.

Paul&Shark collections (men’s, children’s and accessories) are available throughout the world in 73 different countries, 458 cities and more than 280 Paul&Shark monobrand boutiques located in the most exclusive shopping areas, from Via Montenapoleone in Milan, to Rue du Faubourg St. Honore’ in Paris, to Dubai and Moscow.

Paul & Shark was first founded in 1975 by the Dini family. Since then, the brand has become a highly recognisable brand that encompasses quality , style and timeless wear. It first began when Gian Ludovico Dinni reopened and changed the name of the Maglificio Daco mill. What makes the brand so special is that every aspect of the production of all garments took place internally. From the producing of yarns to even creating the packaging for items, it was all done in house.

The eldest son of Gian Ludovico once found himself in a sailmakers workshop on his way to maine. Whilst there, an old 18th century clipper caught his eye, the name of the ship? Paul & Shark . Fast forward and the C0P918 was born, the pullover sailing sweater that would go on to be the most iconic garment of the brand. First debuted in the 1978 yachting collection it was not just popular for its look, or even the unique process of manufacture, instead it became so popular as it signalled the start of a new water repellent knitwear, it was a trailblazer.

Soon the items were to be shipped all over the world thanks to partnerships with Christian Dior and Balenciaga . With its constant innovation in classic garments, the brand has become renowned to this day for its luxury items and classic designs.

Throughout the generations the brands core values have always remained the same, for it to seem excellent both in the manufacturing of the products to its quality. Paul & Shark now create smart casual wear to luxury lines to sports lines all of which combine technical fabrics with elegant stylish detailing making each garment unique to its brand.

The AW19 collection is filled with the classic styles from Paul & Shark, however, not a brand to miss out on innovation… We see some new designs and bold new colourways in some of those iconic garments.
