Justin Bieber on Never Say Never yacht

The 37.18 metre yacht Never say Never has been thrust into the public eye this week when teen heart throb Justin Bieber posted a photo of himself posing next to her on photo sharing site Instagram.

Some reports suggest Bieber was attempting to fool fans into thinking he has bought a yacht and named it Never say Never, which is the title of his 2011 3-D concert film.

A split image of Justin Bieber and his Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT

Justin Bieber purchased a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT for $1.29 million, paying a reported 300 percent more than its valued market price.

The singer posted a photo of the new BAYC #3001 – which features a cartoon ape in a black T-shirt with tears in its eyes – to his Instagram on Monday, along with lyrics from his 2021 hit song “Lonely.”

“What if you had it all, but nobody to call, maybe then you’d know me. Cuz I’ve had everything but noones listening and that’s just fuckin lonely. #lonelyboredape,” he captioned the post shared with his 219 million Instagram followers.

Bieber, 27, purchased the NFT for 500 ethereum cryptocurrency, which is the equivalent to $1.29 million, according to Bitcoin.com .

The estimated value of the NFT was $208,237 as of January 29, 2022, meaning the star bought the non-fungible token for nearly 300 percent above its valued price.

Naturally, people took to Twitter to poke fun at Bieber for dishing out so much money for the piece.

“Justin Bieber really paid 5x the Bored Ape floor price for an ape with no rare traits He just got finessed,” one person tweeted.

“Next time you think you’re down bad, just remember that .@justinbieber just bought a floor ape for 500 ETH,” another person added.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Justin Bieber (@justinbieber)

Others noted that Bieber must have really wanted the NFT to pay so much over asking, with a third person tweeting , “He’s not looking for the flip he just likes the apes!”

“Yes we all know that @justinbieber could have bought a more expensive/rarer ape but, he doesn’t give a shit, this is just a flex, to get people talking about it. A statement piece. Welcome !” a fourth person argued.

Bieber is no stranger to the NFT world and has a growing collection of pieces. The “Yummy” singer, who has an estimated net worth of $285 million, has reportedly purchased 619 NFTs from 49 different collections.

But he isn’t the only star to hop on the Bored Ape Yacht Club bandwagon. Paris Hilton, Jimmy Fallon, Serena Williams, Travis Barker, Eminem, Stephen Curry and Gunna have all purchased BAYC NTFs.

A rep for Bieber did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Mr. and Mrs. Bieber couldn't get enough of each other on their latest beach vacation.

The two were seen kissing, laughing, and embracing aboard a yacht on Lake Coeur d'Alene in Idaho.

The model wore a bright cobalt blue one-piece SKIMS swimsuit and navy cap as she lounged on the boat, enjoying the sun and chatting with her husband. She accessorized with a dainty gold necklace and seemed to wear no makeup. The "Peaches" singer wore black swim trunks by Purple Brand, a matching watch and sunglasses, and a chunky white necklace.

Photos show Hailey and Justin lying on white towels on the yacht. At one point, Hailey embraces her husband, who shows her something on his phone, and leans in to kiss him. The two also spend some time hugging while standing and enjoying the view.

The Biebers were joined by various friends on the yacht and took turns jumping into the water.

The Rhode founder looked cool as ever in a cobalt blue triangle bikini from Sculpt Swim and matching baggy Motel parachute pants . Her accessories included a crocheted hat with a green floral design by Memorial Day , black oval sunglasses by Balenciaga , gold bracelets from Tiffany & Co., and a delicate pearl necklace. Justin, meanwhile, sported highlighter-yellow board shorts, a white visor cap, and white shades.

Though Justin has not given an update on his health since he revealed his Ramsay Hunt syndrome diagnosis last month, he seems to be in high spirits while on holiday with his wife.

Justin Bieber Buys A Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT For 500 ETH: Here Are The Details

A Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT sold for $1.3 million on Saturday, and the owner of the NFT is one of the world's most well-known celebrities.

What Happened: Bored Ape Yacht Club #3001 sold for 500 Ethereum ETH/USD on Saturday, the equivalent of $1,311,170 based on the $2,622.34 price of ETH at the time of writing.

The non-fungible token was bought by an OpenSea account called JustinBieberNFTs, believed to be owned by Justin Bieber. The account is the owner of several inBetweeners NFTs including the one that is the profile picture of Bieber on Twitter Inc TWTR .

The OpenSea account owns over 100 NFTs, including recent purchases of well-known NFT projects such as  Doodles , CloneX and World of Women . A World of Women NFT was purchased for 16 ETH Saturday. The Doodles NFT was purchased for 13 ETH Saturday. The CloneX NFTs were previously purchased for 49.99 and 50 ETH.

Bored Ape Yacht #3001 is not a rare Ape, which left many on Twitter questioning the large purchase price.

The Ape ranks as the #9777 rarest on Rarity Tools, with the following traits:

Punk Blue Background (12% of Apes)

Black T (3%)

Sad Eyes (6%)

Dark Brown Fur (4%)

Bored Unshaven Mouth (16%)

The 500 ETH purchase price was the seventh-highest amount of the cryptocurrency paid for a Bored Ape, according to OpenSea.

Related Link: How To Buy NFTs

Why It’s Important: Bieber becomes the latest celebrity to purchase a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT . Prior to his purchase, Bored Ape passed a floor price of 100 ETH on Saturday. At the time of writing, the floor price of Bored Apes stood at 104 ETH.

Bieber has the second most Twitter followers with 114.2 million, trailing only former President Barack Obama (130.6 million). Bieber has an NFT as his profile picture, and changing it to his recently purchased Bored Ape could increase the brand exposure for the already popular NFT collection.

In 2021, Bored Ape Yacht Club hosted an exclusive party for holders with appearances by musicians and comedians. Could the 2022 event feature an appearance and performance by Justin Bieber?

As Bieber himself would say, “I will never say never.”

One Of The Girls Who Was On Justin Bieber’s Yacht Has Spoken Out About What Happened

16 March 2017, 11:23

Facebook share

She’s revealed how she got on Bieber’s private yacht party.

Getting invited on to Justin Bieber’s yacht for a private party with the man himself is pretty much what dreams are made of, and one lucky girl has revealed all about what went down on board.

WATCH: Justin Bieber Responds To Claims He Swore At Journalists With This Bizarre Video

Australian ‘socialite’ Nyssa Large has revealed what happened during her afternoon on Bieber’s boat, explaining to the Herald Sun, “He has matured so much since his last tour, he seems much more reserved this tour, a little cautious. But he is lovely. He is really good to talk to, you can have a great conversation with him. We all just sat around and had some drinks.”

Well he’s probably right to be cautious if the girls he invites to party with him go straight to the press to talk about it… but they even had to sign non-disclosure agreements and surrender their phones before they were allowed on board.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin aren't going to let the haters get the best of them during their relaxing getaway. As posted on Instagram, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin's new yacht photo shows that the couple had a low-key and incredibly chill trip recently. Or, as Drop the Mic host wrote, "the Biebers" had a fun day together, without a care in the world for any of those pesky social media trolls.

Bieber and Baldwin embraced nothing but chill vibes during the past weekend, as the model's Instagram post showcases. On March 31, she posted a photo posing with her husband on a boat in what is surely one of the sweetest snaps of the married couple yet. Considering how much they've had to deal with when it comes to any of those haters online, it's nice that the couple was able to step away from the social media-related stress for a little bit.

Of course, the trolls couldn't help but come out of the woodworks to try and put a damper on the couple's fun. Baldwin even addressed some of the hate that she receives in a (since-deleted) post on her Instagram Story. She wrote to her followers, including those of the trolling persuasion, that there's a "weird" faction of people who follow her but continue to send her negative messages. On Sunday night, she wrote:

"why do people comment something rude on your pic but yet they follow you...? So you wanna be rude and nasty but still see everything I do? Weird."

It's certainly an interesting quandary that she brings up, and it's one that any of those lurking haters needs to take note of.

This isn't the first time that Baldwin has directed a message towards any of the haters. In an interview with Cosmopolitan in late March, in which she detailed her ROXY Sister collection with bestie Kelia Munoz, the Drop the Mic host opened up about receiving negative and intrusive social media attention . She told the publication:

“I’m like, you actually don’t know me. You don’t know him. You don’t know her, you don’t know these people for real. What’s really weird to me is they create scenarios in their head of what they think is happening or what they think should happen, and I’m just like, ‘This is just so dumb. It’s so dumb.’"

Baldwin's significant other has also addressed the trolls with his own passionate message. On March 25, Bieber posted a photo of his wife. But, one Instagram user still had something negative to say, as they brought up the "Sorry" singer's ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez , and wrote statements such as "You are NOT in love with Hailey!"

He responded to their comment with a rather mature note, as he addressed his past with Gomez before heading into a strong defense of his wife. Bieber wrote, in part:

"I've seen multiple people say things like this and I will never respond again to a message like this and will never respond again to a message like this because I don't like to even give it my energy but this is a reply to all immature sick people who send Hailey hurtful messages like 'he always goes back to Selena' or 'Selena is better for him' YOU HAVE NO IDEA MY LIFE WHAts good for me!!"

It's so unfortunate that Bieber and Baldwin have to deal with these haters time and time again. But, at the very least, it's nice to see that the couple can move past any of the troll-related drama and focus on nothing but positive vibes instead.

Justin Bieber, the Weeknd, Madonna Among Defendants in Lawsuit Against Bored Ape Yacht Club

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

Justin Bieber , the Weeknd , Madonna , and Post Malone are among the artists, athletes, and celebrities named in a class action lawsuit against the creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs .

Gwyneth Paltrow, Stephen Curry , Snoop Dogg, Kevin Hart, Serena Williams, Future, Diplo, and more were also named as defendants in the suit, which alleges that Yuga Labs, the creators of the BAYC non-fungible tokens, enlisted the celebrities to help “artificially” increase the value of the NFTs, inevitably resulting in “staggering losses” for the buyers.

(Count the defendants among those buyers: In November, it was revealed that a BAYC NFT allegedly purchased by Bieber for $1.3 million in Jan. 2022 was worth only $69,000 less than a year later.)

The class action lawsuit was filed in a California district court by lawyers for Adam Titcher and Adonis Real; the former claims they bought a pair of Yuga Labs NFTs, while the latter said they purchased Yuga Labs’ cryptocurrency ApeCoin under the pretense it would be needed to buy things in the greater BAYC “metaverse.”

The lawsuit also alleges that entertainment manager Guy Oseary formed a partnership with Yuga Labs to “leverage their vast network of A-list musicians, athletes, and celebrity clients,” with those celebrities discreetly paid for promotional work via the crypto firm MoonPay, which the lawsuit alleges is connected to Oseary’s Sound Ventures capital firm.

In the case of most of the celebrity defendants — including Bieber, the Weeknd, and Madonna — the lawsuit claims they acted as “a promotor for the Company and solicited sales of Yuga securities to the public.”

The BAYC class action lawsuit is similar to the celebrity-aimed lawsuit against the “brand ambassadors” who helped promote the fallen cryptocurrency exchange FTX, including Larry David, Shaquille O’ Neal, Tom Brady, and Curry, who is the only defendant in both the BAYC and FTX lawsuits.

How Did Justin Bieber Commandeer a Yacht for Selena Gomez?

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber went on a yacht trip together? How does a kid get his own yacht vacation?--Dwimbo, via the inbox

Huh? You mean you don't let your teenage son rent a yacht whenever he wants time alone with his new girlfriend? Gee, you must have a serious case of the meanies. As for exactly how Bieber scored his recent Caribbean yacht trip with Selena Gomez, here's how such things are done out here ...

"Justin wouldn't charter the yacht as he is not old enough," says David Horne of the travel agency Cosmopolite. Instead, in cases like this, Horne says, management companies generally handle such details. "A 16-year-old can not sign a contract on a $300,000 yacht charter. It would have to be his immediate family or his handlers."

In other words, the yachts are rented in the name of the manager adult, and the kids' names are then added to the passenger manifest.

TWITTER: Seen any other teenage stars on yachts? Tip off the Answer B!tch on Twitter!

"I'm 95 percent confident that the transaction was done thru his manager, Scooter," echoes Lyndsey Green of Pat Walker Travel. "It's totally the norm that everything goes through management."

And Green would know.

"I used to handle Lil Bow Wow's travel, back when he was still 'Li'l'," Green says. "I literally took orders and requests from a 15-year-old would call me up and have me reserve him limos and hotel rooms and everything. It always made me chuckle."

There is also the possibility that the yacht was on loan from a friend, even a famous one. If so, Bieber's people don't necessarily want you to know which friend; his publicist didn't return a request for comment.

Does Justin Bieber Own a Yacht?

Justin Bieber may be a world-famous singer, songwriter, and concert film actor, but it’s important to remember that he was just 13 years old when he started his career in music. What did this teen pop star turned R&B artist do with his success, and does he own a yacht?

Justin Bieber does not own a yacht, but he frequently rents or charters them for him and his friends to use. Chartering yachts is more popular than owning them, since it’s cheaper and takes less upkeep, especially if the renter uses them infrequently or seasonally.

Read on below to find out more about Bieber’s yacht adventures, and which celebrities do own yachts.

Bieber’s Yacht Parties and Hangouts

Celebrity parties always seem so luxurious and extravagant because they have the resources and time to travel to faraway places and enjoy themselves. Yachts or flying first class are upsides and ways to keep a star’s privacy, ensuring that they’ll be able to truly get away and relax with their friends or family.

While owning a yacht takes a lot of upkeep, requires keeping staff on board, and organizing, chartering or renting yachts is easier for a lot of celebrities. This is what Bieber does, as he doesn’t own one yacht in particular, but often charters them for different parties or hangouts.

How Tall Is Justin Bieber? Exact Height Revealed

Does justin bieber reply to dms, what is justin bieber’s favorite animal.

During his early career, when Bieber was a teenager, he would go on yachts with his friends for small parties or just to hang out on the water. More recently, Justin and Hailey Bieber have been spotted relaxing on yachts as small getaways.

Shortly after they were married in 2018, Hailey posted these pictures of their time on a yacht, according to the World Music Awards Twitter account. She also posted this picture , simply captioned “The Biebers,” on Instagram in early 2019.

While the Biebers have received some negative comments on social media from fans who mean well but may not fully understand their situation, they don’t let the criticism distract them from enjoying their yacht getaways together.

While renting or chartering yachts is popular, which celebrities go on yachts enough to get their own?

Yacht Owners

Parties on yachts may be common, but yachting is also a niche pastime that many celebrities get into. One celebrity who loves yachting is Rafael Nadal , one of the top tennis players in the world

As of June in 2020, Nadal is the owner of a Sunreef 80 Power superyacht named Great White. He talked about his love for yachting in an interview, saying , “Because I have a yacht, I am able to forget about everything and get away from that tiring stress. I do have a real passion for [superyachts]. It is rare that I see a superyacht from a distance and I don’t know its name. I know them all!”

Roberto Cavalli , the Italian fashion designer and inventor, known for his use of exotic animal prints and creating different fashion trends and looks. His yacht, named Freedom , was modeled after Batman’s batmobile , featuring a sleek design and black exterior.

The Belgian fashion icon known for her wrap dress and recent addition to the National Women’s Hall of Fame , Diane von Fürstenberg is also a proud yacht owner. She bought the yacht Eos in 2009 with her husband, Barry Diller .

The owner of the yacht Astoria which was built in 1911 for Fred Karno is now David Gilmour , who was the guitarist of Pink Floyd . Gilmour bought the yacht in 1986, adding a recording studio in which some parts of Pink Floyd’s last three albums, as well as some of Gilmour’s solo work, was recorded.

Steven Spielberg , one of the most popular American directors, producer, and screenwriters in Hollywood, is the owner of the impressive superyacht Seven Seas .

Justin Bieber Splashes his Cash on 280ft Superyacht in Ibizia

Vacay on a yacht? You better Belieb it!

Following a rumored bust-up with Orlando Bloom over Miranda Kerr and several recent run-ins with the law, Justin Bieber  retreated to the comfort of his huge superyacht whilst vacationing in Ibiza .

Joined by Australian model Shanina Shaik and a mystery brunette he particularly took a shine to, his Jacuzzi, massage room and many TV’s on board 282ft (85m)  rental yacht Ecstasea   probably meant he was soon over his tiff with Orlando.

The fabulous superyacht once owned by Russian Oligarch Roman Abramovich was built by Dutch shipbuilder Feadship and comes complete with not one but two helipads, and a built in helicopter hangar, gym, Jacuzzi and massage room complete with a masseuse as part of the crew. It’s ok for some! The bedrooms ooze luxury and the hallway, filled with works of modern art looks like something you would find in a hotel!

Superyacht Ecstasea

Bieber’s latest love interest comes only a few days after Orlando Bloom allegedly threw a punch at the singer at Cipriani restaurant, which at the time, was packed with celebrities including Paris Hilton   and Diddy .

Orlando was dining with Leonardo DiCaprio at the posh eatery and appeared to get rather angry when Bieber came up to their table and tried to talk to them.

Cool as you like, DiCaprio apparently shooed the Baby singer away with his hand which enraged Bieber and said something to provoke Orlando.

The argument that ensued was probably because Bieber made a comment that suggested he had slept with Bloom’s ex wife Miranda Kerr, after they met at a Victoria’s Secret show in 2012.

According to rumor, Orlando punched Bieber, much to the delight of the onlookers, including DiCaprio.

Bieber has since done nothing to settle things, despite the fact that he started the whole thing – and has instead decided to use Instagram to further rile up the Elizabethtown actor.

After the argument, Bieber posted a bikini-clad picture of Miranda with a crown symbol caption.  He then also shared a picture of Orlando that seemed to look as though he was crying.

He might be trying to start a tough-guy image since his baby face looks do not appear to be waning and probably won’t any time soon!

Meanwhile on board the yacht, despite the mystery brunette who seems to court all of Bieber’s attention, Justin posted a very cosy shot of him with Aussie model Shanina Shaik – but immediately denied any kind of budding romance.

He wrote next to the snapshot: ‘Me and the beautiful @shaninashaik and don’t even start with dating rumors.’

Bieber was later joined on board by pals Zac Efron and Michelle Rodriguez , who definitely seemed to hit it off.

Ibiza has been the hottest destination for celebs this summer, with Will Smith , Diddy , and superyacht king Leo DiCaprio all choosing to let their hair down in the Balearics on board a luxury yacht.

Who know if Bieber will go even bigger next year? Maybe a 100m yacht? Either way, it seems the gossip surrounded Bieber’s activity is bigger than any yacht could be…

How the super rich party at the Monaco Grand Prix

T he Monaco Grand Prix gets underway this weekend in Monte Carlo with its heady combination of glamor and adrenaline, not only for the tens of thousands who descend on the pristine principality, but for the millions watching across the world.

Even those who are typically indifferent to motorsports can find themselves enraptured, or at least intrigued, by the sheer spectacle of Formula One cars hurtling along the country’s winding streets.

It is also where you will find celebrities happily jostling their way through the crowds and cameras. “It is unlike anything I have ever been to, it is electric,” exclaimed Spider-Man actor Tom Holland while walking last year’s grid.

And of course, there is plenty of wealth on display.

Monaco is nicknamed “the billionaires’ playground” for good reason. Here, designer stores, supercars, multi-million-dollar yachts and astronomically priced restaurants are ‘la norme’, but during the three-day Grand Prix, the eye-watering ostentation increases three-fold.

When demand is high and options are limited, it is all to play for among the world’s wealthiest who are keen to revel in the race’s iconic location and party ‘til dawn.

If they are not using their own superyacht as a base, they might book into a private villa on the Côte d’Azur or check-in to Fairmont Hotel, Hôtel Hermitage or Hôtel de Paris in Monte Carlo itself.

A pioneer of Grand Prix party culture

Of course, it is not only about finding the finest suites to rest your head, but the premium spots for dining and clubbing, whether it is the top table at Cipriani, Sass Café or Café de Paris or the best booth at exclusive night spots such as Jimmy’z or Amber Lounge.

The latter has the distinction of being the go-to destination for the F1 fraternity, including Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, while previous guests have included Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Minogue and Prince Albert of Monaco.

Established in 2003 by former racing driver Eddie Irvine’s sister Sonia as a “post-race destination” for drivers and VIP guests, Amber Lounge is regarded a pioneer of the Grand Prix party culture.

Notably, it will be marking its 20-year milestone (there was a year off during Covid) as “the most exclusive party in the world” with panache over the Monaco weekend with three nights of events costing just over €1.5m ($1.6m) to produce.

There will be after parties at an Amber Lounge beach club on the terrace of Le Meridien Beach Plaza (the only hotel in Monte Carlo with its own private beach), as well as VIP viewing of the race from aboard a 108ft superyacht moored just feet from the circuit’s famous Tabac corner.

“The size of the yacht also means we are as close to the action as you can get, unlike the larger yachts that are pulled back (from the coast). It also feels more intimate and exclusive on board. We have a lot of repeat clients (typically from the US, UK and Middle East) who want to network and build relationships,” said Lauren Green, Managing Director of Amber Lounge who oversees logistics of the three-day pop-up event in Monaco, as well as other F1 locations including Singapore, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.

Unsurprisingly, a ticket to one of the most coveted trackside spots does not come cheap.

A one-day VIP viewing package for the race itself on Sunday costs €3,500 ($3,800) per person — and the 65 available tickets sold out within two weeks of going on sale in May 2023.

While the dress code is ‘Riviera chic,’ shoes, however expensive, must be discarded on embarking so as not to ruin the yacht’s teak decking. Tickets include free-flowing beverages, including champagne, wine and signature cocktails, as well as food, a DJ and dancers before tenders return to shore at 6.30pm.

‘The center of the universe for a weekend’

At the club’s after parties held over the race weekend, a small army of waiting staff serve ever-flowing drinks for a 1000 strong crowd on Saturday and Sunday nights. On arrival, guests ring a bell and a gloved hand appears through a flower wall proffering a glass of champagne. Attendees have paid anything from €600 ($650) for entry to the afterparty on Saturday (the F1 qualifying day) to €800 ($870) on the Sunday (race day) in the hope they can party alongside drivers, celebrities and guests of high net worth, away from the public gaze.

For €40,000 ($43,400), partygoers can book what’s known as a “diamond table package” for 10 people — a prime table with unobstructed views of the stage and DJ booth (Fatman Scoop and Jax Jones are the acts for 2024), as well as cirqus-themed performances, and Methuselahs of champagne (6-liters) and premium vodka. Add an extra €10,000 ($10,800) on for a Salmanazar — a nine-liter bottle of champagne that requires a team of four to carry it to the table, or €20,000 ($21,600) for a 12-liter Balthazar-sized bottle.

The top-tier tables also have their own “hosts,” who act as a concierge; liaising with VIPs’ assistants or drivers to ensure guests can be greeted and escorted along the black carpet without having to queue.

Amber Lounge might be one of the most exclusive and expensive events taking place during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, but Monte Carlo itself is a veritable party hub. It’s common for champagne glasses and bottles to be cleared from the track from the previous night’s revelry ahead of that day’s qualifying or race sessions.

“The Côte d’Azur is one of the truly exceptional global destinations, and Monaco is at the heart of it. The scenery, the sophistication, and the opulence are unmatched,” said Bruce Bundrant, Senior Vice President of Business Development for rEvolution, a global sports marketing agency who lived in Monaco for three years as Commercial Director for AS Monaco FC.

“As a former resident, I can tell you there are two sides to the F1 Grand Prix arriving in Monaco. On one side, your town is now the center of the universe for a weekend where the top 1% of the 1% from all over the world arrive and engage in outrageous parties and events on yachts, at luxury hotels suites, and in hilltop mansions,” Bundrant explained.

“On the other, it’s the hybrid of the arrival of a hurricane and New Year’s Eve. A week out from the race, grocery store shelves are emptied as locals know it’s impossible to move around the principality when the F1 circus is in town. During the Grand Prix, your quiet, regular neighborhood bar has a line around the corner, charges a $100 cover charge, and a drink that typically costs $20 will be $50. But it’s a truly unforgettable weekend, with an unreplicable buzz and energy. Sure, it’s expensive, but come the Monday, things are back to normal.”

As normal as it can ever be in a place as excessive as Monaco. As the jet set move onto their next port of call, and the racetrack is dismantled, so too is the Amber Lounge club as preparations continue for their next F1 event, which will be Singapore in September.

“There is no rest at Amber Lounge,” Green quipped. “Just a lot of adrenaline. And a lot of coffee.”

Basketball with Justin Bieber: My game as the teammate of a pop icon

Basketball with Justin Bieber: My game as the teammate of a pop icon

LOS ANGELES — In the middle of a third quarter on a November evening, I checked into a basketball game at a hangar-like facility a few miles south of downtown Los Angeles. I was on the court, but when I looked up, there was a balcony with people sitting on furniture you might find at a nightclub. In another part of the facility was a bar.

I knew this wouldn’t be like your typical LA Fitness run when I showed up and saw photographers lining the walls.

As I ran onto the floor to find someone to defend, the on-court public address announcer, J.C. “Mouthpiece” Thompson, reminded the other team it had too many players on the floor. Meanwhile, my team had another player sub in with me before play resumed.

Perhaps you have heard of him.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Justin Bieber (@justinbieber)

I have known about Justin Bieber since January 2010, when his multiplatinum single “Baby” featuring Ludacris first came out. He’s been playing basketball on elevated stages for years, with his highest profile exhibitions coming in the NBA’s All-Star Celebrity Game. Bieber took part in the previous two occasions when the All-Star Weekend was held in Los Angeles, in 2011 and 2018. The 2011 game saw him win the MVP award despite being on the losing team and scoring only eight points.

But this wasn’t a celebrity game. This was The League at SRGN Studios (pronounced “Surgeon”), an exclusive collaboration of sports bringing together notable brands in fashion and sneakers with some of Los Angeles’ top local players.

“Justin got his wind,” Mouthpiece said as the two-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist jogged onto the floor to play defense.

The team Bieber and I played on was called Nahmias, named after Doni Nahmias, the creator of the celeb-favorite fashion brand. The team we played was called Surgeon, named after Dominic “The Shoe Surgeon” Ciambrone, who created custom shoes for Bieber’s tour more than a decade ago. Team Surgeon also had Dominique Johnson, a longtime overseas pro and former Drew League champion — a respected hooper.

But all eyes were on Bieber. Particularly Bieber as a southpaw basketball player and not a pop icon. He finished with 13 points in a 110-102 loss to Team Surgeon.

“He’s a baller,” Nahmias told The Athletic about Bieber’s basketball prowess. “He’s a walking bucket. He balls just as hard as he pop stars.”

I remember a play where I dove to the floor in front of Bieber to secure the steal and pushed the ball ahead to Nahmias to start a fast break. As I ran down the middle of the lane, Bieber trotted to the top of the key. Nahmias found Bieber on a pass to escape a double-team. With a clean look at the basket, Bieber drained a 3-pointer that capped an 8-0 run that erased a deficit that was as large as 11 points at halftime.

We didn’t get the win, but no one can say Bieber can’t play the game.

The commissioner of The League is Ron Abaekobe, who also is the vice president of sports and business development at The Surgeon. Abaekobe is a Los Angeles native and a 6-foot-6   forward who has played basketball professionally and in pro-ams like the Drew League. In this game, Abaekobe dropped 26 points in Team Surgeon’s win. Team Surgeon ultimately won the league championship.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by SRGN Studios (@srgnstudios)

The League started as Abaekobe’s idea to get players together from a post-pandemic open run and to collaborate with high-end brands. The League is in its second season and featured players who have seen time in the NBA , the G League and the Big3, including Al Harrington, Ty Lawson, Franklin “Frank Nitty” Session and Ryan “Hezi God” Carter. This season had 16 teams — one of which included Bieber.

“The teams are brands,” Abaekobe said. “I was easily able to come up with 150 guys that would do anything to be on these teams and build those relationships. That’s what they’re after the most. You’re not going to get a pro contract out of here, but you will leave with a couple of dope relationships that could, you know, pivot your life.”

One of the brands Abaekobe had a connection with was that of Nahmias, who recently received national exposure when actor Adam Driver wore his menswear brand on “Saturday Night Live.” Nahmias had been a part of Abaekobe’s pickup runs for years. A longtime friend of Nahmias, Bieber asked Nahmias what he was doing after a dinner in October, about a month after this season of The League began.

“I was like: ‘I got a basketball game. I’m in this league,’” Nahmias said. “He’s like, ‘I’m coming, I’m playing,’ and I was like, ‘All right.’ Literally the next day, he came and showed up for the game.”

The League has had cameos from other notable figures — including Floyd Mayweather, Future and Casey Veggies (who has his own team) — but Bieber was genuinely curious about The League.

“The cameo-seeking moments at the Drew and getting that one viral moment, those aren’t the things we’re after here,” Abaekobe said. “That’s why it was kind of warming when (Bieber) asked a few questions his first time here, as far as what this place was or what The League was all about. Once he kind of saw that there were brands he was familiar with that had teams in The League, he understood that this was for a bigger picture, and it made sense as to why he’s wearing the jersey he was wearing.”

“What he’s told me out of his own mouth is, ‘This is a league like I’ve never seen before,’” added Mouthpiece, who is known for being the announcer at Venice Basketball League among other events in Los Angeles. “Somebody that’s had arenas shut down, for him to come here week after week after week to just want to catch the vibes here, it says it for itself. He could be anywhere in the world, you know what I mean? But he makes sure he comes here every week.”

Bieber blended in with his new teammates. Quincy Urbina, a 6-foot-7 forward from Los Angeles who also works with Abaekobe at SRGN Studios, played multiple games with Bieber on Nahmias.

“Justin’s a normal dude just like you and me,” Urbina said. “The only thing is he’s got a bunch of hit songs and everybody loves him. But he’s a cool dude. It’s not one of those things (where) it’s weird. He puts on his shoes, shorts, everything, just like we do. And he’s not like big-time where he’ll ignore you or anything like that. … He’s just like a normal player.

“He might not be as tall or as big or as skilled, but he still has the competition and fire. That’s all that matters.”

Playing basketball with Bieber felt normal. He high-fived everyone in the pregame layup line. He likes to dribble, drive and shoot, but he won’t force it and is willing to pass the ball. When he is on defense, Bieber plays hard — so hard that he does not play very long stints.

And when Bieber is on the bench, he’s talking to everyone, staying engaged in the game. When the game was over, Bieber stuck around for photos and caught up with players from both teams before being whisked away from the facility.

For Bieber, basketball is an escape, something different from the regular rotation.

“He’s not a hooper, like a hooper that hoops every day,” Urbina said. “He has a family; he has a bunch of stuff going on. … But he’s a hooper that has the desire.”

Bieber’s recurring appearances were a highlight for The League in 2023, as he played in five games and scored 32 points. Even though Nahmias did not qualify for the playoffs, this season was meaningful to both Bieber and The League by showing that even an international star could be part of the budding phenomenon.

“I think it’s really special because it allows him to be here and feel safe and just have fun,” Nahmias said. “It also lets the fans or whoever is coming here to come and feel like they’re in a safe space and have fun and also have that more maybe intimate connection that wouldn’t be possible. So, it’s allowed something special, I think, for both parties.”

Crime and Public Safety

Crime and public safety | rapper sean kingston, his mother arrested on fraud charges after swat raid at his southwest ranches home.

A SWAT team was in the process of raiding the Southwest Ranches home of rapper and singer Sean Kingston Thursday afternoon, authorities and attorneys say.

Kingston was arrested by police in Fort Irwin, California, on an arrest warrant issued by the Broward Sheriff’s Office, spokesperson Carey Codd said in a news release shortly before 9:30 p.m. The Sheriff’s Office said he will be booked in a jail in San Bernardino.  The specific charges Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, faces were not available late Thursday.

Janice Turner, 61, was arrested on “numerous fraud and theft charges,” Codd said in a media release earlier Thursday. Turner is Kingston’s mother.

The raid at the sprawling white mansion in the 4600 block of Southwest 178th Avenue came out of an investigation that first began in Dania Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

An attorney representing a company currently suing Kingston said the raid of Kingston’s home was related to his February lawsuit. Both Kingston and his mother have been named in previous lawsuits stemming from allegations of unpaid goods and services, court records show.

As of Thursday night, Turner was being held in the Broward Main Jail on eight charges: organized scheme to defraud over $50,000; three counts of criminal use of personal identification information; grand theft greater than $20,000 and less than $100,000; making an insufficient funds check greater than $150; and two counts of grand theft greater than $100,000, jail records show.

Dennis Card, an attorney for Ver Ver Entertainment, the company currently suing Kingston over breach of contract and fraud, had been standing outside of the home along with more than 30 SWAT team members Thursday afternoon, waiting to get inside. He said he saw Kingston’s mother in handcuffs.

“I’ve been waiting on this raid for a couple of months now,” Card told the South Florida Sun Sentinel as he waited.

Ver Ver Entertainment installed a 232-inch home theater and audio system in Kingston’s home in December, Card said. After making a down payment of $30,000, Kingston never paid the company for the full balance, the lawsuit claims. The system is worth about $150,000.

When Card emerged from the home on Thursday afternoon, he described it as a “full blown raid.” Deputies were “basically taking everything in the house,” he said, not just those pertaining to his lawsuit.

“People love negative energy!” Kingston wrote in an Instagram story Thursday afternoon. “I am good, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”

The Miami-based attorney representing Kingston and his mother, Robert Rosenblatt, told the Sun Sentinel that he did not have much information about the allegations against his clients before their arrests were made public.

“These are fine people, and I’d be surprised if the allegations were true,” Rosenblatt said Thursday afternoon.

Card said Kingston convinced his client to sell to the singer by saying he was working with Justin Bieber and would include their products on social media to help drive business to them.

Kingston toured with Bieber in 2010 and collaborated him on the hit song “Eenie Meenie.” He is best known for his popular songs “Beautiful Girls” and “Fire Burning.”

Kingston also has a history of “fraudulent conduct,” according to Ver Ver Entertainment’s complaint. In 2015, a judgment was entered against him for obtaining over $300,000 worth of watches without paying for them. A similar judgment was entered a year later pertaining to his failure to pay for over $300,000 in jewelry. And in 2022, he was sued for allegedly failing to pay for two watches worth over $1 million together; the disposition of that case is unclear.

Card’s client and three workers went to the home to disassemble the home theater system and take it back Thursday, he said.

“They’re super happy they’re getting their stuff back,” Card said. “They were working their butts off trying to make it … it’s just a huge financial hit for them.”

(Article continues after document.)

Erick Passo, 36, sued Kingston and his mother over contract and indebtedness in 2010, court records show. He said the lawsuit had to do with a 2008 concert in Brazil that Kingston did not show up for, but he discontinued the lawsuit because he could not afford lawyers. He was 19 at the time.

“It was one of the worst times in my life,” Passo said.

Reacting to the news of the raid, he said, “sooner or later, the guys that do bad to other people, they’re gonna go down. It’s inevitable. I wish I was in the position I am today. I would’ve gone further with lawyers and whatnot.”

A Coral Gables attorney who had represented Kingston in that lawsuit was not in the office Thursday afternoon and did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

Earlier this month, Kingston’s mother was sued for allegedly not paying several months rent on a beachside home in Fort Lauderdale, according to the attorney representing the property owners. The rent was $25,000 per month, which Turner stopped paying several months prior to the end of the yearlong lease, according to the complaint.

Jeffrey Harrington, the attorney representing the property owners, said that they were in the process of filing the complaint and may have to try to serve Turner while she is incarcerated.

In 2017, Turner was sued over the failure to pay $70,000 in costs for jewelry purchased from New York. Sean Kingston’s name was written on the top of the purchase order. The attorney for the jewelers did not immediately return voicemails or emails Thursday.

By late Thursday afternoon, authorities, Card and his clients had entered the mansion, and the surroundings had quieted. Two U-Haul trucks had been parked in the driveway, presumably to carry items confiscated from within, Card said, as well as a Broward Sheriff’s RV with its lights flashing. One of the U-Hauls left about an hour later.

A tow truck arrived in the late afternoon and took a black SUV from the driveway. Deputies appeared to search a garage; one reemerged with a box. Another appeared to enter a black Bentley parked in the driveway.

Along the road outside the mansion’s gates, drivers slowed down to observe the spectacle. Some asked reporters what was going on; others took out their phones to record. One person played “Beautiful Girls” over their car speakers.

More in Crime and Public Safety

Federal prosecutors on Friday asked the judge overseeing the classified documents case against Donald Trump to bar the former president from public statements that “pose a significant, imminent, and foreseeable danger to law enforcement agents” participating in the prosecution.

A New Mexico judge has rejected a request by Alec Baldwin to dismiss the sole criminal charge against him in a fatal shooting on the set of the movie “Rust.” The decision Friday means the case remains on track for a July trial. Defense attorneys had accused prosecutors of flouting the rules of grand jury proceedings to divert attention away from evidence and witnesses that could aid Baldwin’s defense. Prosecutors had accused Baldwin of “shameless” attempts to escape culpability. Prosecutors previously dismissed an involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin before rebooting the case. A grand jury later indicted Baldwin on the same charge in cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death.
