Classic Series

In 1991 Vicem made the biggest splash of all with the introduction of their Classic series. For a builder in Turkey to produce the epitome of classic Down-East stylings struck some as presumptuous. To endure challenging North Atlantic conditions season after season (and some of the most demanding captains in the world) traditional Maine lobster boats must please both the eye and the sea. Vicem found the Mediterranean offered similar challenges and that our Classic series was the solution.

Vicem envisioned the Cruiser Series as a step up from even our unusually high standards towards another level of style, luxury, and spaciousness. These higher-volume, longer-range motor yachts are the perfect bridge from classic, traditional full displacement yachts towards modern, semi-displacement performance specs. They are capable of undertaking demanding voyages with low fuel needs and ultimate comfort.

Vulcan Series

The vulcan series is thrillingly represented by the 46m, the 35m Tri-Deck and the 32m RPH (Raised Pilot House). Sprung from the design tables of renowned Dutch Naval Architect Frank Mulder and the award-winning interior design firms of Art-Line Interiors, Wetzels Brown Partners, and Ken Freivokh.

Sportfish Series

Vicem’s world-class and high-performance sport fish line carry on the Vicem tradition of timeless design and exquisite detail. It has a handsome classic look that combines outstanding comfort with the latest technology and incorporates all the elements of a fishing vessel any serious sport fisherman would dream of.

Bahama Bay Series

Vicem’s Bahama Bay line is our first designed from the keel up around Volvo’s IPS System. It offers the fingertip control, fuel efficiency, special flexibility, and noise control that IPS is widely known for. Bahama Bay yachts are modern and maneuverable luxury yachts, yet they are also cold-molded mahogany beauties with the same Down-East style profile that Vicem is world-famous for.

Recognizing wood’s superior qualities and honoring the millenary tradition of woodworking craftsmanship in Turkey, Vicem proudly continues to utilize the traditional boat building method but with a contemporary twist. All the Vicem Vintage Line yachts – which includes Classic, Flybridge, Cruiser, and Bahama Bay lines – are built with the Cold-Molded Process.

This operation simply involves applying layers of thin solid-wood veneers, oriented at different angles, to be saturated by epoxy over a computer-designed mold. This marriage of engineered woods with formulated resins yields a hull that is lighter, stronger, and more durable than traditionally built fiberglass boats. To this are added the widely acclaimed advantages in comfort, noise reduction, and insulation from the elements.

Vicem Yachts (pronounced "VEE-cham") builds classic style luxury motor yachts that are enjoyed by discerning yachting enthusiasts in many parts of the world. Crafted largely by hand at the company's shipyard in Istanbul, Turkey, Vicem models range from about 35' up to 150' in length.  Currently there are more than 150 Vicems afloat in Europe and the USA.  Since the company was founded more than two decades ago, the Vicem brand has become synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship, upmost attention to detail and quality, and widely respected cold-molded construction.

The Vicem Classic Series, introduced in the USA in 2001, includes models ranging from 34' to 72'.  These strikingly handsome yachts are an established favorite among Vicem owners.  Based on the achievement of the Classic Series, Vicem launched the Cruisers series in 2008.  These larger yachts, now ranging from 65'--115' are also attracting a great deal of attention.  We also build Sportfish models, ranging 54'-66'.

In 2008, Vicem started construction of its first composite 150' megayacht, which is a collaboration of world-renowned designers, Frank Mulder and Art-Line Design supported by a project management team with global experience in this area.

The cold-molded construction operation simply involves layers of thin veneers, oriented at different angles, glued over a mold.  The glue in this case being a specially formulated epoxy resin.  The marriage of engineered wood with formulated resins yields a hull that is lighter, stronger and more durable than a traditionally built boat.  There are two basic reasons for this:

1- Firstly, laminating several layers of wood at 90-degree angles optimizes the unidirectional strength of this naturally flexible product, making it ideally suited to resist and absorb the complex forces applied to a hull in a seaway.  Secondly,

2- Wood is a very strong material.  However, this strength is unidirectional, meaning you can easily bend the wood in one direction but it would break if you try to bend it in the other direction.  Binding together several layers of wood at 90-degree angles makes the hull much stronger in resisting the complex set of forces that effect the vessel during navigation.

Preventing the hull from absorbing more moisture than ideal is crucial in a wooden boat.  Many woods are two or even three times stronger when dry than they are when saturated with  moisture.  The cold molding system aims to keep the wood dry.  The epoxy soaks deep into the wood, sealing it off from moisture and oxygen.  Keeping the water out means no swelling and no rotting.  The glued joints are firmly bonded for long periods of time.  Through this method, the hull skin is built upon a wood frame in four directional layers of African or South American Mahogany (Sapele) composite planking.

The first layer (-45 degrees) is fastened to the frames, keel, chine and sheer strake with galvanized nails and saturated with epoxy; the second layer (+45 degrees) and third layer (90 degrees) are fastened and bonded with epoxy and stainless steel staples, while the fourth layer (0 degrees) is fastened via epoxy and stainless steel strapped staples that are then removed, leaving behind a smooth hull with no visible markings.  For larger, heavier yachts, an additional inner layer of edge-fastened strip planking mechanically locked together in a bead and cove fashion, with two outer layers of diagonally fastened mahogany planking, is required.  Both methods have mahogany laminated internal structural members for the keel, chine, sheer and beams.

The final structural construction step requires coating the entire bilge area, engine room and exterior of the hull with 10oz E-glass cloth, epoxy resin and a polyurethane paint system.  The exterior of the full is finished on top of the E-glass by multiple steps of long boarding, epoxy fairing compounds, epoxy primers and polyurethane paint to achieve a mirror-like finish.  The result is a yacht that has all the advantages of a laminated wood hull, such as natural insulating properties for sound and humidity, and is also stronger than standard fiberglass and traditionally built wooden yachts.

The glue in this case being a specially formulated epoxy resin.  The marriage of engineered wood with formulated resins yields a hull that is lighter, stronger and more durable than a traditionally built boat.  There are two basic reasons for this:</p> <p>1- Firstly, laminating several layers of wood at 90-degree angles optimizes the unidirectional strength of this naturally flexible product, making it ideally suited to resist and absorb the complex forces applied to a hull in a seaway.  Secondly,</p> <p>2- Wood is a very strong material.  However, this strength is unidirectional, meaning you can easily bend the wood in one direction but it would break if you try to bend it in the other direction.  Binding together several layers of wood at 90-degree angles makes the hull much stronger in resisting the complex set of forces that effect the vessel during navigation.</p> <p>Preventing the hull from absorbing more moisture than ideal is crucial in a wooden boat.  Many woods are two or even three times stronger when dry than they are when saturated with  moisture.  The cold molding system aims to keep the wood dry.  The epoxy soaks deep into the wood, sealing it off from moisture and oxygen.  Keeping the water out means no swelling and no rotting.  The glued joints are firmly bonded for long periods of time.  Through this method, the hull skin is built upon a wood frame in four directional layers of African or South American Mahogany (Sapele) composite planking.</p> <p>The first layer (-45 degrees) is fastened to the frames, keel, chine and sheer strake with galvanized nails and saturated with epoxy; the second layer (+45 degrees) and third layer (90 degrees) are fastened and bonded with epoxy and stainless steel staples, while the fourth layer (0 degrees) is fastened via epoxy and stainless steel strapped staples that are then removed, leaving behind a smooth hull with no visible markings.  For larger, heavier yachts, an additional inner layer of edge-fastened strip planking mechanically locked together in a bead and cove fashion, with two outer layers of diagonally fastened mahogany planking, is required.  Both methods have mahogany laminated internal structural members for the keel, chine, sheer and beams.</p> <p>The final structural construction step requires coating the entire bilge area, engine room and exterior of the hull with 10oz E-glass cloth, epoxy resin and a polyurethane paint system.  The exterior of the full is finished on top of the E-glass by multiple steps of long boarding, epoxy fairing compounds, epoxy primers and polyurethane paint to achieve a mirror-like finish.  The result is a yacht that has all the advantages of a laminated wood hull, such as natural insulating properties for sound and humidity, and is Vicem 95 to star at Leigh-Smith’s Sanctuary Cove display

An all-new vicem 95 custom superyacht will take pride of place at sanctuary cove.

Leigh-Smith Yachts has announced it will highlight a Vicem 95 Cruiser as part of its Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show display this year.

Leigh-Smith Yachts director Ryan Leigh-Smith told boatsales the fully custom Vicem 95 that was booked in for Sanctuary Cove was a “gentleman’s cruiser”, suiting an owner chasing classic lines but with modern amenities.

“It’s a cruiser version, so it is a lot more traditional,” Leigh-Smith said. “It’s quite a heavily specified boat with stabilisers,” he said.

The three-level Vicem 95 is a true long-range cruiser, featuring twin 1600hp MTU V10 engines fed by a 16,000-litre fuel capacity.

Extended flybridge

The $11.5 million motor yacht features a raised wheelhouse and an extra-large flybridge that extends over two-thirds of the Vicem 95’s length, shading the cockpit below.

The saloon features open-plan living with the lounge space, galley and dining area all on the same level, while a service galley is located on the lower deck. 

Below decks is a full-beam master stateroom with a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom, a VIP double in the bow, and an amidship double and a Pullman stateroom, sleeping up to eight people.

The Vicem 95 is also fitted out with crew quarters behind the engine room. 

Up top, the hardtop-equipped flybridge is entirely dedicated to entertaining, with a wet bar and informal dining area, seating for up to 10 people, and a heated jacuzzi. Forward is a second helm station.

The aft section of the flybridge is dedicated to storing a tender up to 6.0 metres in length, serviced via a 1000kg davit.

The boat was delivered late last year to an Australian owner. The motor yacht has been built to AMSA survey and is available for charter on the east coast of Australia.

Other models on display at Leigh-Smith’s Sanctuary Cove line-up will include an Alaska 49, a Horizon FD90, a San Lorenzo 76 and a 100-foot expedition yacht, giving it one of the longest waterlines of the show.
