Insider Today

Three men on board an inflatable catamaran were rescued off Australia's northeastern coast on Wednesday after their vessel was attacked several times by sharks.

The trio — two Russians and one French citizen — were about 510 miles from shore when Australian authorities picked up their distress alert in the early morning, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said in a statement.

The Russian vessel had departed from the Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu and was heading to the city of Cairns in Queensland, the AMSA said.

Both hulls of their 30-foot catamaran "have been damaged following several shark attacks," authorities added.

Officials said they asked a nearby Panama-flagged ship, the Dugong Ace, to help rescue the three people. A Challenger rescue aircraft was also sent to assist from Cairns.

When found, the catamaran had "large sections of its hull missing," AMSA Response Centre manager Joe Zeller said.

The three sailors are aged between 28 and 64, in healthy condition, and on board the Dugong Ace on their way to Brisbane, Zeller said. Their full trip would likely have taken between two to three weeks, he said.

"The emergency beacon absolutely saved their lives," Zeller added. "It enabled the rescue coordination center to identify their precise location and empower the most appropriate and quickest response to rescue them."

The trio are expected to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday, the AMSA said in its statement.

Sharks and orcas have been making headlines this summer amid a rising number of reports documenting attacks on vessels . But it's still unclear what causes these encounters , or if they are related at all.

3 men rescued after sharks repeatedly attacked their inflatable boat off Australia

Three sailors were rescued from a sinking inflatable catamaran Wednesday after it came under repeated attack by sharks that stranded them more than 500 miles off Australia .

Rescuers picked up the men, two Russians and a Frenchman, after their emergency beacon sent out a distress call at 1:30 a.m. eastern Australian time (11 a.m. Tuesday ET), the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, or AMSA, said in a statement .

The crew had embarked from the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Aug. 28 and were headed to the Australian city of Cairns on the latest stage of an around-the-world trip.

But several shark attacks damaged both hulls of their 30-foot boat.

cookiecutter shark, Isistius brasiliensis, found during offshore blackwater dive in Kona Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, USA, Pacific Ocean

The catamaran had “large sections of its hull missing,” Joe Zeller, a senior manager at AMSA, said in a video statement.

"An emergency beacon absolutely saved their lives," said Zeller, who was on call when the distress signal was received.

A huge Panama-registered vehicle carrier, the 650-foot Dugong Ace, carried out the rescue in the Coral Sea. The unharmed sailors, ages 28 to 64, are expected to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday.

AMSA did not name the rescued men. The expedition is led by Evgeny Kovalevsky, alongside crew member Stanislav Berezkin, both from Siberia.

The project's website lists Vincent Thomas Etienne as an extra crew member participating in the Tahiti-Australia stage. The boat is a Russian-registered catamaran named “Russian Ocean Way — Tion.”

Russian boat rescue off Australia

A spokesperson for the expedition said by text message that Yulia Kalyuzhnaya, the head of the operation, will fly to Australia to meet the sailors and discuss the future of the voyage.

“Now [the] travelers are safe, this is the most important thing. Unfortunately, the catamaran could not be saved. The fate of the expedition will be clear next week,” the spokesperson said.

The trip from Vanuatu to the trio's intended destination of Cairns, Australia, is more than 1,200 miles. AMSA said it would normally take two to three weeks depending on weather conditions.

An Instagram account for the voyage said the boat was first attacked Monday by cookiecutter sharks, a small species that grows to around 16 inches and is linked to only a handful of attacks on humans. That caused the boat to partly submerge, but it limped on for 100 more miles.

Russian sailing expedition attacked by sharks off Vanuatu

It was attacked again Tuesday, when sharks pierced its right-side hull, causing it to start sinking.

Satellite photos and a video on the AMSA website showed the extent of the damage, with the boat clearly listing and losing buoyancy.

The crew and their belongings were saved, but the catamaran was lost.

“There are many reasons vessels are attacked by sharks, but the motivations of these sharks is unclear,” Zeller said in a video statement released by AMSA. The trio were “very happy” to be rescued, he said.

Russian sailing expedition attacked by sharks off coast of Vanuatu.

The boat set off from St. Petersburg in July 2021, led by Kovalevsky and Berezkin.

The pair said they were emulating pioneering Russian explorers of the 19th century. The voyage was planned to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the birth of Adam Johann von Krusenstern, who led the first Russian round-the-world voyage.

The plan was to visit 40 countries and return to St. Petersburg in July 2024, but the future of the project is now in doubt. Russia’s Ministry of Science and Ministry of Education, as well as the state broadcasting company, are listed as "information partners" on the project's website.

AMSA has used the incident to remind sailors to always carry the appropriate safety equipment. "This is a timely reminder to always carry a distress beacon while on the water. GPS-equipped EPIRBs and personal locater beacons (PLBs) can save your life in an emergency," it said in a statement. (EPIRBs are emergency position-indicating radio beacons.)

Officials reminded citizens "always carry a distress beacon while on the water."

Three people were rescued from the Coral Sea after "multiple shark attacks" damaged their catamaran.

Following an alert from a Russian-registered emergency position-indicating radio beacon, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority responded to the distress call early Wednesday morning at around 1:30 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time.

The beacon came from a nine-meter (29 feet) inflatable catamaran Tion with three people aboard -- two Russian citizens and one French citizen.

The sailing party had departed from Vanuatu, in the South Pacific, and was traveling to Cairns, a coastal city in Queensland, Australia. While details are slim, the stranded people were in their catamaran 835 km (519 miles) off the coast of Cairns in the Coral Sea, per the AMSA. Both hulls of the catamaran had been “damaged following several shark attacks,” the AMSA confirmed in a release.

After receiving the beacon’s signal, AMSA sent a Cairns-based Challenger Rescue Aircraft to the catamaran’s location and secured the assistance of the Dugong Ace, a vehicle carrier sailing under a Panama flag.

Fill ‘er Up (With Air): The 6 Best Inflatable Catamarans for Fishing, Fun and Portability

Fill ‘er Up (With Air): The 6 Best Inflatable Catamarans for Fishing, Fun and Portability

From the wooden rafts of Polynesia to the 60s surf culture of the Hobie Cat, catamarans (or simply cats) have been a fun way to enjoy the local lake, ocean or bay.

That seemingly effortless way they glide across the water is both relaxing and exhilarating.  What's not relaxing is lugging a heavy vessel across the sand or investing in an expensive traditional catamaran.

Have you considered an inflatable catamaran? Inflatable catamarans are a less expensive and more portable option to traditional cats. You can even use them as inflatable dinghies and yacht tenders.

The main design of a cat is 3000 years old and influenced by the Polynesian wooden rafts that made long journeys across the Pacific. You don't have to journey across the Pacific (or even the Atlantic) to enjoy the fun, convenience and diversity of catamarans.

Keep reading to discover more about inflatable catamarans and how they might be just what you need for fishing, diving or just cruising around the lake.

What is an Inflatable Catamaran?

With a design based on geometry, just like their traditional non-inflatable counterparts, inflatable catamarans offer stability and smooth sailing due to the wide beam and double- hulled tubes on either side.

This isn't your typical full-size dive/snorkel/sightseeing catamaran you've seen in the local marina. They range in size from eight to 15 or so feet and can be propelled by sails, an outboard engine or a pair of oars.

The unique thing about inflatable catamarans is that they, well, inflate, as well as deflate for storage in a car or on a bigger boat. This also makes it easier to carry to and from the water.

Similar in design to a pontoon boat, inflatable catamarans have actually been called pontoon boats (though they're technically not), along with fishing boats or even inflatable kayak s (which they're really not either).

While they don't have cabins or storage in the tubes like full-size (non-inflatable) cats, they can accommodate anywhere from two to eight passengers depending on size.

Benefits of Inflatable Catamarans

  • Lightweight
  • Foldable (like a folding kayak )
  • Fuel Efficient
  • Wide beam for stability
  • Small enough to navigate small coves and sandbars

Features of Inflatable Catamarans

Parallel Tubes:  Two pontoon-like tunnel-hull tubes, located on either side of the platform, provide stability and flotation. They usually have multiple chambers to make inflation easier.

Wide Beams:  Like a traditional cat, this makes it stable for one or multiple passengers whether you're fishing, anchoring out or just cruising around the lake.

Sectional Aluminum Floors:  Sturdy aluminum provides a stable surface. Sections make it easier to put together and take apart.

PVC Hulls:  The bottoms of inflatable catamarans are usually made out of durable PVC, which helps prevent tension and tearing.

Heat-Welded Seams:  Heat welding ensures a sturdy, durable and water-resistant seam that can stand up to saltwater, fresh water and high heat. The high heat factor comes into play if you store it for long periods of time (such as in a garage, shed or attic).

Marine Plywood Transom:  Marine plywood is designed especially for wet, humid and marine environments. It makes a strong material to hold a small outboard engine.

Multiple Propulsion Methods:  Inflatable catamarans can be operated with outboard engines , sails or oars and paddles .

Uses for an Inflatable Catamaran

  • Tender/Dinghy
  • Diving/Snorkeling
  • Support vessel for watersports such as swimming, kayaking and rowing

Six of the Best Inflatable Catamarans

1. bris 15.4 ft. inflatable boat.

Check price on Amazon

Constructed out of 2000 Denier 1.2mm PVC fabric, this inflatable catamaran is durable and resistant to tearing and tension.

It has sturdy heat-welded seams that are guaranteed to last in saltwater , fresh water and high heat.  Reinforced fabric withstands rugged gear like dive tanks and fishing tackle.

A marine plywood transom provides space for an outboard motor (it can handle a 35 HP engine). A deep-V keel with rub-strake protection offers easy planing.

The tube bottoms each have a double layer of fabric that provides protection from sharp rocks, sticks and other debris.

There are five individual chambers, a one-way drain valve with a plug, built-in oarlocks and a strap to secure a gas tank.

It comes with a PVC hull, aluminum floor panels, three aluminum bench seats, two aluminum oars , a carrying bag and a foot pump.

2. BRIS 11 ft. Inflatable Catamaran

If you're looking for a great cat in a smaller size than the 15-foot BRIS, this 11-foot BRIS is a terrific alternative.

The main tubes and floor fabric on this cat are made out of 1100 denier 0.9 mm PVC. The tubes each have two air chambers, and the floor is 80 mm thick.

A marine plywood transom can accommodate an outboard motor. Tube bottoms have two small fins for better direction. Extra wide rub strakes on tube bottoms allow you to pull up on rocks.

It comes with a foot pump, carrying bag, oars and a repair kit.

3. BRIS 9.8 ft. Inflatable Boat

Whether you're diving, snorkeling or fishing, the heavy-duty 1,100 denier 0.9 mm PVC and polyester support provide resistance to tearing, tension and breaking.  The sectional aluminum floor is sturdy and has a corrosion-proof platform.

The transom is covered with triangular splash guards to minimize splashing and protect the transom holders from heat and exposure to UV rays.  Getting up on a plane is easy via the deep-V keel with rub strake protection.

This inflatable cat has heat-welded seams, separate internal air chambers and a marine plywood transom.

4. Sea Eagle Inflatable FoldCat ProAngler Fishing Boat

For the fishing enthusiast, the Sea Eagle inflatable cat makes a great alternative to bass boats. Designed for two adults, or 650 pounds, this cat is made of 1000 denier and has quadruple overlap seams, raised oarlocks, rod holders and a motor mount.

Two swivel seats sit up high above the floor, making this cat an excellent choice as a fishing kayak . The casting bar is one of my favorite features for visibility and stability while fishing.

A folding frame provides a stable and rigid floor platform. There are carrying handles at the front and back.

5. Dolphin 8.8 ft. Model SB-270A “ 2021 Inflatable Sports Boat

Sleek and contoured, the Dolphin is my pick for best inflatable catamaran. It has more of a sporty look than some.

Created by nautical engineers to provide rear buoyancy and faster planning, it's made of .9 mm 1100 denier reinforced PVC material, which is UV, oil and puncture resistant. Thick PVC holds 8 PSI and provides a stable air deck floor.

Easily portable, it can be assembled and disassembled in about 10 minutes. It has one front and four rear exterior carrying handles.

It comes with a removable seat bag and cushion, two aluminum oars, a carrying and storage bag and two front towing D-rings.

6. Inflatable 1.2 mm PVC 15 ft. Windsurfing Catamaran

We didn't forget the sailors and Hobie cat enthusiasts in the group. This super cute inflatable catamaran comes with two sails made of 3.8 OZ Dacron.

The PVC tubes are 1.2 mm. Each has an air chamber. It can accommodate four passengers and is easily assembled in about 30 minutes.

It comes with a pump and carrying bag but doesn't include oars or a motor.

The Coral Sea where the men were found is brimming with reef sharks.

According to the Australian government, it is home to more sharks “than almost any other survey site in the world”.

What Our Customers Are Saying...

Row vista - beyond amazing.

Alex, I gotta tell you this. Yesterday I was at Lake Natoma, the home to the Sacramento Aquatic Center, with my Kayak and RowVista kit. What I did not know was that there was a whole bunch of rowing teams practicing. (I later googled and found that they have the PAC 12 happening today, which is a University level competition). The look of amazement and bewilderment that I got from the boys and girls on sculls was amazing. It felt that this was the first time they saw someone row forward which btw is the only way I know, as the first time I rowed was 2 weeks ago. I got smiles, cheers and sometimes envy (side eyes) from over a 100 young people. I thought of going again today but I think I couldn't handle any more attention. The RowVista definitely made me the coolest rower, although not the fastest among these professional athletes. While, I have improved to 4.6 mph (7.4 km/h) over 2 km since I got the kit. Thanks for letting me live this moment, eagerly waiting for the XCAT.

Carbon 420 - The Perfect Cat

We bought a Carbon 420 in Nov 2020, and have sailed it almost every week since then, sometimes twice a week! Alex is great to work with, answers every question, and is extremely knowledgeable. He truly loves the sport! One of the first things we did was intentionally capsize it to see how hard it was to right... Almost too easy! It's super easy for 1 person to right. And the carbon mast is super light and easy to step. So glad we got the carbon version! We find that it is highly stable, but very nimble. And it can really fly! We love that combination. It's fun and easy! Some accessories we highly recommend: Flextail pump. Cuts inflation time tremendously. And deflates fast to make storage really easy. Upgraded shackles. Huge difference in knowing they are secure, easy to check, and so easy to turn. Worth it! Front trampoline. Rope ladder. Outboard attachment. Trolley wheels. Because we added weight with an electric motor, we made a telescoping extension that hooks over the trolley axle. Now we launch and retrieve easily even at a ramp. The boat just floats on and off the trolley. Super easy and fast! Overall, we highly recommend the Carbon 420. It's perfect for us. We spend wonderful days on the water, sailing, exploring, snorkeling, and just loving the sound of water against the boat. And we definitely recommend Red Beard Sailing... Alex has the best service and the best prices!

HAPPY CAT EVOLUTION...PERFECT FIT FOR ACTIVE, TRAVELING FAMILY OF 6

Having sailed most of my life I was looking for a cat that did not require a trailer, but was large enough for a family of 6 to go day sailing and over-nighting while providing a level of excitement to keep the kids interested (speed). Other options didn't offer the loading capacity, size, portability, and performance found on the Happy Cat. I purchased our Happy Cat in 2020 and have sailed it with my family at numerous locations around Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, and Lake Ontario. Its portability makes it possible to fit in our RV (I've even had the Happy Cat in our Chrysler minivan along with the whole family-tight, but possible). With two adults on board, flying a hull is easy, non-eventful, and adds exhilaration to a day of sailing. Loaded with my family of 6+gear, the Evolution easily skims across the water at speeds that keep my young kids wanting more! While not the least expensive option, the construction, quality hardware/rigging, ease of sailing, performance, and portability made this a perfect choice for us. Alex assisted in reaching a decision on a boat which was best suited for my needs in a NO pressure manner. After sale support from Alex has been AWESOME! Alex continues to answer questions, provide input, and promptly responds to email, texts, as well as phone calls. Thanks Alex for helping me select the right boat to introduce my four young children to the amazing world of sailing..Oh, by the way, I feel like a kid again when sailing the Happy Cat!!

STILL LOVING MY 420 AFTER FOUR YEARS OF SAILING

So happy with this purchase four seasons in. It’s a serious boat with all the lines and controls exactly where you want them. The light weight makes it easy to go in the lightest wind, and the rugged engineering feels solid even when it’s up on one pontoon in 20 knots. One person can easily get it righted if you manage to flip it (which doesn’t happen often). Alex has provided great service the whole way. I haven’t needed much, but he is responsive and knowledgeable. I have patched a pontoon, gotten some rigging replicated at West Marine, and attached a trolling motor to tool around when there’s no wind. All of that has been easy enough, and I see years of great sailing ahead of me in my Minicat 420. Can’t say enough positive things about the boat and Red Beard.

We purchased our RowVista X-Cat in 2016 and could not be happier with it. Superior engineering and construction. Red beard Sailing and Alex specifically are the best in the business to work with. Five stars in every category.

Awesome Cat!

Got our 420 (LD Edition) from Alex at Redbeard this past summer (2017) and love the boat. I have owned and raced A-Class catamarans and while this is understandably no A-Cat, it is an awesome little boat that is a blast to sail! We live aboard our cruising catamaran, JADE, and wanted a portable sailing dinghy to mess around with while anchored in various places. Alex has been a great source, from the original set up and demo of the boat, through the purchase, delivery, inventory and follow up. The boat is very simple to set up (and actually fun to construct) and is lightweight enough to sling over the side with our big boat's spinnaker halyard, so we can set everything up on the trampoline of JADE and then launch and go. The roller furling jib is a great feature that really makes getting underway and docking very easy. My wife and I can sail it together, comfortably, as there is plenty of room on the tramp and hulls. I sailed the other day, solo, pacing a friend on his roto-molded beach cat and kept up in winds that were just shy of 15kts. It comes apart very easily and stows in two heavy vinyl zippered bags which we stow internally in JADE. Because this is a boat that sails really well AND is collapsable and easy to assemble and disassemble, it was the right choice for us. Can't wait to get out and sail it some more!

An Inflatable Dinghy That You Can Row!

I had a small Mercury inflatable for about 10 years, and when I went looking for a replacement, I needed something a little larger and--I hoped--a boat I could row. We usually row out to our moorings on the midcoast of Maine and rarely use an outboard either on the dinghy or the sailboats. The design of the Takacat 260 Sport offered less wetted surface to push through the water and more space for people and gear. The high-pressure inflatable floor was an added bonus: soft and sure under foot and quick to dry, not to mention the convenience of having any rainwater settle below the floor and drain readily from the stern when the bow is lifted. This is our second season, and the "Left Behind" is working out beautifully. We frequently carry an oarsman, two passengers and an 80-pound Golden Retriever, although the boat certainly handles better with a lighter load. Alex handled the delivery from New Zealand to Maryland to Maine without a hitch.

STILL WONDERFUL AFTER 3 YEARS

This thing is a little rocket. This is my Third year with the X-cat. I still love it. I also have a 30 foot keelboat, but I take the X-cat out a lot. The X-cat is stable & well designed. I just took it out in worsening weather (against my better judgement). Very choppy conditions and accelerating winds with some light rains. I was sure I would pitch-pole but did it just would not happen. I also stayed pretty dry which was a big surprise. The motor is also wonderful for leaving against the tide. We’re still happy with it.

A DREAM TURNED INTO A REALITY

For a long time I have dreamed to own a sailboat, but don't have the space to have a towable one. Storage and transport were major concerns since I live an hour and a half from the nearest sailable lake. I learned about Minicat and was completely amazed about its features. Alex did a good job taking me and my family for a demo sail and the deal was closed the same day. Now we own a 420 emotion and it is our dream turned into reality. For novices like us, it took just a couple of hours on the water to learn by ourselves how to take the boat to where we want to go, it is very stable, fun and easy to sail. The service at Red Beard Sailing is not limited to the sale, we know we can count on them for whatever we need, five stars for sure!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Red Beard Sailing was the first North American portable boat dealer! We started RBS in 2015 with a MiniCat 420 and the demand has just exploded! We have poured every ounce of passion we have into portable boating and the lifestyles that it affords! Whether you are looking at one of our portable sailboats or dinghies or just need advice from a seasoned delivery captian we have the experience to help you make the right choice for you!

We are experts in everything we sell. We have walked many customers through the assembly of their boats and even tips on how to improve their on-the-water performance too! Give us a call ( 410-705-5026 ) or email us ( [email protected] ) to have a member of our sails team help walk you through the process! Please also check out our YouTube channel where we are always making new videos to help with those first assembly woes!

The greatest part about portable boats, the ability to take it anywhere, begs the question... "Where can I take it?" Our portable boats can be launched nearly anywhere a kayak can be launched! Here in Baltimore, Maryland, we prefer to launch from the Gunpowder State Park, Hammerman Area . This park has great facilities, including a snack stand and proper bathrooms. The basin is pretty well protected, but large enough for ample wind on most days. In all but a NE wind, the water is flat and calm with little powerboat traffic, which is perfect for fast sailing and smooth paddling. If you are not near us, we recommend looking for State Parks that offer Small Boat Launches. We also have found some great resources through the sea kayaking communities, they typically well document launches and paddling areas similarly to how we discribed the Hammerman launch above.

Many of our boats are in stock, but others must be ordered from their respective factory. East Coast USA In Stock Items - 2-4 days Special Order - 2-3 weeks   Central USA In Stock Items - 2-4 days Special Order - 2-3 weeks West Coast USA In Stock Items - 4-7 days Special Order - 2-3 weeks If you have an urgent need for something or just want to verify the lead time for your purchase, please give us a call ( 410-705-5026 ) or email us ( [email protected] ) for a personalized ETA.

Portable boats have inexpensive and easy to replace parts, so if you are in a situation where you need to purchase a replacement part (or are looking to keep a few spares on hand), give us a call ( 410-705-5026 ) or drop us an email ( [email protected] )!

Depending on what boat you are purchasing and where you live, registration may or may not be required. In Maryland, we are only required to register our boats if they are intended for use with a motor.

The best way to see one of these boats is to visit our warehouse in Baltimore, MD or schedule a demo day on the water for the boat you are interested in. We host demo days where we have many of our boats on the beach ready to try out as well. There is a lively owner's group for all of our brands, we encourage you to join the community either on social media or other sailing forum to meet with other owners that are local to you! Give us a call ( 410-705-5026 ) or drop us a note ( [email protected] ) and we would be happy to point you in the right direction!

Red Beard Sailing is fully staffed with experienced sailors including yacht delivery captains and certified sailing instructors, but we do not offer sailing lessons. We have many local partners that would love to provide these lessons, with many of these options willing to do so on your personal boat!

We take pride in our brands and our work. We will work to make sure you are 100% satisfied with your purchase or we will work with you to return your boat. Unfortunately, the process of simply taking an order does cost us money that we, as merchants, cannot recover. We assess a 15% restocking fee for all cancelled or returned orders to cover our costs.

3 Men Rescued from Coral Sea After ‘Several Shark Attacks’ Damage Their Inflatable Catamaran

The trio were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday morning, over 500 miles off the coast of Australia

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Three men have been rescued from the Coral Sea after "several shark attacks" damaged their inflatable catamaran.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority confirmed in a media release that both hulls of the 30-foot catamaran had been damaged following the attacks more than 500 miles off the Australian coast.

The three men, who were traveling to the Cairns in the far north of Queensland, were rescued in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The boat’s emergency distress beacon sent out a call at 1:30 a.m. local time.

russian.ocean.way Instagram

A video posted on the AMSA’s official Twitter, now known as X, shared footage of the search and rescue effort. “Remember to always bring a registered beacon with you when you're out on the water - it could help save your life,” the tweet accompanying the clip read.

“AMSA requested the assistance of Panama-flagged vehicle carrier Dugong Ace and tasked the Cairns-based Challenger Rescue Aircraft to the scene. Dugong Ace successfully conducted the rescue and collected three people,” the release added.

According to NBC News , the men had set off from the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Aug. 28 on the latest stage of an around-the-world trip.

Per the outlet, the sailors, aged between 28 and 64, are said to be unharmed. Their belongings were also saved, but the catamaran was lost.

The trio, two Russians and one Frenchman, are due to arrive in Brisbane, Australia on Thursday morning, the release said.

Joe Zeller, a senior manager at AMSA, said in a video statement that the catamaran had “large sections of its hull missing,” reported CNN ,

"An emergency beacon absolutely saved their lives," he continued. “There are many reasons vessels are attacked by sharks but the motivations of these sharks is unclear.”

Zeller added that the men were “very happy” to be rescued.

Per the voyage’s Instagram account @russian.ocean.way , the three men onboard were Evgeny Kovalevsky, Stanislav Berezkin and Vincent Thomas Etienne.

According to one post, their vessel was first attacked by sharks on Monday and began to sink on Tuesday.

Glued Seams vs. Welded Seams

Welded seams are often used for RIBs as they are affordable, typically easy to do, and inflated most of the time. Glued seams are best for boats you intend to fold and unfold constantly.

Welded seams become brittle and will start to leak. Additionally, they are not totally repairable as you can only patch them up, which compromises your boat’s quality and performance.

You want to purchase glued seamed boats, which are more flexible and have higher holding power in complex shapes and sizes.

Frequently Asked Question

Yes, you most definitely can, but there are a number of little details you and your team need to remember when leaving it inflated. Equipping your dinghy catamaran with chaps is best to protect it against UV rays and keep off bird poop. Inflatable bottom paint is also one thing to help your boat contend with any growth in your waters.

The best way to store an inflatable catamaran is by deflating it and rolling it up. Store it in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. You can also use a storage bag to keep it protected while in storage.

Inflatable catamarans can last for a very long time, provided you take good care of them. Your inflatable catamaran can last for many years with proper maintenance and storage.

Inflatable catamarans are just as safe as any other type of boat, provided that you use them properly and follow all safety guidelines. Always wear a life jacket when aboard an inflatable catamaran, and avoid rough waters.

Insider Advice

If there’s one thing you need to remember when purchasing and maneuvering inflatable catamarans, it’s safety. You may want to be the next Laura Dekker or chill out in the water on some days.

No matter what, you need to take California-approved boating safety courses and always have a number of life jackets with you for you and your crew.

Better be on the safe side all the time.

FastCat14™ Catamaran Reviews

I absolutely love my FastCat 14. It really is a great day boat and fishing boat with plenty of room for all of my gear, friends, coolers, and more. I have it packaged with a Honda 9.9 and it pushes this boat around just fine. Its great being able to get into shallow areas that many boats cannot. When I get to the beach I pull it up on the beach and use it as a day bed. The new bow padding and scotty rod holders make me jealous. Great boat!

This boat has exceeded expectations in every way. It is stable, durable, eye-catching, and very functional. There is so much room on it. I've had many fun outings on it with friends and family. Satisfied owners, on their own, created a Facebook group for those who have already bought one to get the most out of their boats by sharing information with other owners. Prospective buyers have joined to ask questions and learn—most who do get one.

My 3rd inflatable but my first Cat. WAAAY more space and 15% faster with the same 20hp motor. 24 mph Highly recommend.

I recently purchased the FASTCAT14 by Sea Eagle, and I couldn't be more thrilled with my decision. This inflatable catamaran offers an exceptional boating experience. The FASTCAT14's inflatable catamaran design provides ample space for four passengers. The user-friendly design makes it a perfect choice for spontaneous trips, and the inflatable nature of the boat ensures easy storage when not in use. The FASTCAT14 truly shines when it comes to cruising. The swivel seats make socializing a joy, and the canopy provides excellent shelter from the elements. The boat's stability, coupled with the Honda 9.9 engine, makes cruising a seamless and enjoyable experience. In conclusion, the FASTCAT14 by Sea Eagle has exceeded my expectations. It's the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and performance, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a versatile and enjoyable boating experience. Whether you're a seasoned boater or a first-time enthusiast, the FASTCAT14 is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Advantages A lot bigger than the other 'standard' inflatable that I have, and also faster. Seems very well built. more Disadvantages A standard-shaft OB motor will not work with this raft. It will cavitate, no matter how far you trim down. I'm using a 1980 Johnson 9.9. So I will either have to find a long-shaft OB motor, or may possibly notch the transom a few inches (Discussing with the manufacturer). more Comment A lot bigger than the other 'standard' inflatable that I have, and also faster. Administrator reply Thank you for your feedback and the great pictures. The new 2023 Saturn Triton catamarans are indeed larger and of greater quality than our prior models, and we appreciate you noticing that. While the transom is custom designed for a short shaft motor, it is possible that certain motors/brands may not perform as well as others. We look forward to continuing to partner with you to help resolve the motor performance.
Comment Steve..just sent you some pics today before the big snow fall tonight...made lifting bridles from new tow straps so they lift from under the tubes worked out great! Cheers Tim Wrangell AK (These photos are now shown on product page) more
Comment I bought this for carrying lumber to remote building sites in Alaska, it's light enough to use the main Halyard to lift it out of the water and place on top of my boat. I will be doing a whole video on YouTube this spring. Steve Susten has delivered on time..as quoted every time....Great Inflatables! more

8 Best Catamarans That Are 30 Feet or Less

30 ft inflatable catamaran

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. We may also earn commissions if you purchase products from other retailers after clicking on a link from our site.

Large-sized catamarans are appealing due to their ample spacing and comfort. Therefore, a cruising family or couple looking to buy a boat is more likely to go for one of these. But are there small cruising catamarans that provide the performance, comfort, and amenities found in larger boats?

The best catamarans under 30 feet (9.14 m) include the TomCat 6.2, Cadillac 27and 30, Gemini 30, Endeavour 30, and Maine Cat. These time-tested cruising cats are easy to handle, premium built, and are great for daytime sailing, overnight trips, and some even suitable for long-range sea passages.

In this article, you’ll find a list of the best cruising catamarans below 30 feet (9.14 m). Keep reading to discover which catamarans make this list, what they have to offer, their pros and cons, and how much they cost.

If you are unsure whether or not 30ft is too small for your needs, then I suggest you check out another article I wrote named Best Size Catamaran , it will discuss why length matters and how it affects safety.

Unlike most catamarans designed for racing purposes, the TomCat 6.2 is a medium-sized cat that’s well-suited to daytime cruising. It boasts high-quality construction, vacuum-bagged hulls, and a plywood-reinforced deck.

This 20 footer (6.09 m) comes with an 11-foot (3.35 m) beam and not only offers you safety and comfort but performance and versatility as well.

This boat has a centrally placed outboard engine and two rudders that allow it to turn quickly and maneuver confidently into and out of marina slips. The 9.9 hp outboard propels it to speeds of around 8 knots (9.21 mph or 14.8 kph), though the boat has the potential to move faster if desired.

This simpler type of cat (just one engine as an example) also allows for cheaper and easier maintenance. Maintenance costs are something most people underestimate when getting a cat, if you want to get some real numbers from actual sailors then I suggest you read this article (How much does it cost to maintain a cat).

The boat sails with minimal heeling, comfortably accommodate 6-8 people, and you can sail it single-handed or take a crew.

High and narrow hulls bearing arched bottoms allow for a low wetted surface. The hull design provides low resistance and a great deal of reserved buoyancy and also enables you to drive through closely spaced waves.

On most 20-footers (6.1 m), driving through waves generates a smooth but wet ride, but with the TomCat’s enclosed deck (link to parts names explained here ), you are safe and protected behind a windshield and the high bulwark.

The TomCat makes an excellent cruiser because it performs impressively well both under sail and power. It combines the performance of a modern sailing cat with the comfort, style, and convenience of a powerboat. It’s also trailerable since you can detach the hulls from the deck , winch up the deck on a trailer, and slide the hulls underneath.

But the best part is that it’s easy on the pocket, with the price ranging between $36,750 and $44,580 .

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Catalac 30 (9M)

The Catalac brand consists of strongly built vessels that sport thick hulls, glass windows, narrow beams, and vertical transoms . Catalac 30 was the first vessel in this popular British cruising line designed by Tom Lack in the late 60s. The boat’s appeal was attributed to its safety, ample spacing, well-built interior, and load-carrying abilities.

These characteristics are extremely important on a safe catamaran, overloading your cat makes it sit lower in the water, increases drag, reduces handling and speed, there is stuff you should know about this (so that you can make an educated buy). I have created an article where I try to explain the basics of a safe cat ( link here )

Sporting 5 berths, a massive galley, plus a cockpit with a sheltered steering position, the 30-foot (9.1 m) Catalac makes an excellent floating home for a cruising family. It sails exceptionally well, doesn’t heel ( heeling explained here ), and delivers a reasonable motor-sailer level of performance.

Furthermore, the hulls provide adequate headroom, allowing those on board to move around comfortably, and there’s enough space on the deck for sunbathing.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The Catalac’s structure features solid fiberglass, chined hulls, and a staggered sheerline that allows easy aft access. With a modest rig that’s easy to handle, the Catalac can deliver top speeds of up to 12-14 knots (13.81-16.11 mph / 22.22-25.9 kph) under sail.

Given that the boat’s design focuses more on comfort than speed, this is a spectacular performance.

Catalac 9M requires a skilled hand when turning into the wind as it is prone to blowing sideways. This is because the boat lacks ballast (which helps in keeping momentum during a tack) but also centerboards ( explained here ).

Skills are always the most essential things to bring aboard and you can acquire them in many ways, my two favorite ways are through NauticEd courses (two free courses here ) or by reading books (my top 15 books here )

Back to the boat! This model came in two versions; the standard layout contained a 30-40hp outboard, while the second option had duo engines. The latter is easier to maneuver into a marina.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

These cats retain their value pretty well. However, they might not be easy to come by since most owners find it challenging to get their hands on a larger boat with similar qualities and performance.

A Catalac 30 (9M) goes for between $33,000 and $55,000.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Catalac 27 (8M)

The Catalac 27 8M is a pocket cruiser that boasts a strong reputation for high quality, durability, and strength. Besides, the boat’s design makes it somewhat suitable for bluewater sailing ( understand why the small size is an offshore problem).

Built like a battleship, the boat contains solid fiberglass hulls. Additionally, it comes with double engines, a large cockpit fitted with cushions all around, and features standing headroom in each hull.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Like the Catalac 9M, this boat comes with two different layouts; a twin inboard diesel engine or an outboard engine. The twin-engine models can motor up to 1000 km (621 miles, read more on cat fuel consumption here ) without needing to refuel, while the 70 amps of charge plus water tanks (70 gallons / 265 liters) make these vessels remarkable coastal cruisers.

Catalacs equipped with outboard engines sail faster since you can raise the engine during sailing and are also lighter. This helps to minimize drag . Catalac 8M sports a short but thick mast that helps make the boat stable.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Though small in size, this catamaran packs a lot of features in its small frame. It has a full-sized berth, a large galley that’s almost 8 feet (2.4 m) long, a quarter berth, head, and navigation station.

What’s more, the cockpit is as large as that of a 38 to 40-foot (11.5 to 12.1 m) cat.

Catalac 27 costs about $31,836.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The Endeavour 30

The Endeavour 30 catamaran is a boat characterized by stability, ample deck space, and a spacious interior. It boasts fast cruising speeds under both sail and power.

The boat has mini keels and rudders plus symmetrical hulls separated by a hydra-cell. The latter is a center section with a characteristic V-shape.

The boat’s vacuum-bagged construction helps enhance strength and stiffness while reducing weight. Furthermore, the interior has a fiberglass mold, providing extra strength and rigidity. With sufficient breeze, this vessel can deliver reasonable off-the-wind and doable upwind speeds.

As such, you can expect to attain speeds of about ~10 knots (11.51 mph or 18.5 kph) on power reaches. Below is a video showing a panoramic tour of the Endeavour 30:

This vessel has the internal capacity of a 40-foot (12.1 m) monohull. And you can tell this from the unique layout merging the cabin and cockpit with wide doors to the numerous features packed into this 30-foot (9.14 m) vessel.

It has a spacious salon, an enormous galley, two queen berth staterooms with plenty of storage space, a head with separate showers, and a sizable U-shaped dinette.

You can get this boat for under $50,000 .

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The Geminis by Tony Smith were the United States’s first production cruising cats. Today, these vessels remain the most appealing American-built cruising catamarans. Built between 1981 and 1990, the Gemini 30 does not have a contemporary design, but it works remarkably well for cruisers desiring generous living space in a small affordable sailboat.

At only 14 feet (4.2 m) across, Gemini cats are somewhat narrow. But this mean s they can easily fit into most of the regular marina berths.

Besides, the boats still contain enough interior space for a queen-size double berth and two smaller doubles housed in separate guest rooms.

There’s also a modest but serviceable saloon with duo settees and a collapsible table that can transform into an additional double berth.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

For the Gemini 30, this translates to a cruising cat with standing headroom that can comfortably accommodate 3 couples in private cabins or a family with small children. A good-sized galley, a spacious head with a shower, nav desk, and a large comfy cockpit make up the Gemini 30’s cruising palace.

Catamaran layout is highly personal and if you want to learn more about different characteristics then I suggest you read my article Designing the perfect catamaran layout ( Link )

While not that fast, the Gemini 30 will easily outsail the Endeavor 30 discussed above. Its daggerboards (which are explained in detail here ) can point well, and if you keep it light, it can do 7-8 knots (12.9-14.8 km/hr) under sail.

Besides, raising the daggerboards reduces the wetted surface area, and increases the speed downwind.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The Gemini 30 tends to pound and hobbyhorse a little when sailing in choppy waters – particularly when overloaded (more on load carrying capabilities in this article ), but the deep pivoting daggerboards provide stability and lift underwater.

Furthermore, the Gemini’s retractable rudders enable it to venture into shallow waters.

This is a very popular cruising cat that’ll give you a lot of bang for your bucks.

You can find a Gemini for less than $65,000.

30 ft inflatable catamaran

Maine Cat 30

The Maine Cat 30 combines premium quality construction materials with the most advanced building techniques to create a lightweight vessel capable of handling most offshore conditions. What’s more, this boat can remain trouble-free for years on end with little effort.

If you are in the market for a simple liveaboard cruiser that you can use for a short weekend getaway or a cruising voyage, this is it.

The boat has a sizable primary stateroom berth with ample overhead space and a dresser fitted with a hanging storage cabinet. The enormous head includes a toilet, sink, 20-gallon (75.71 L) holding tank, vanity, and a pressurized shower.

Covering the open bridgedeck is a permanent hardtop. This spacious bridgedeck can hold quite a crowd and comes with a convertible dinette that turns into an extra berth. If need be, you can even enclose the entire space using acrylic windows or screens. Gabo

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The 360-degree visibility from the cockpit allows the captain plus the crew a panoramic view, and all sail controls go back to the cockpit, which is very useful if wanting to sail single-handedly.

I believe that most boats should be set up in this way since sooner or later you might be in a situation where there is only one person to handle the controls, such as in an emergency. But more on that in another article ( Link ).

The Maine Cat 30 is a classic boat that delivers on high-performance multihull sailing. Designed to offer much better performance than catamarans bearing tall and heavy bridge decks, this cat weighs less and suffers less windage thanks to the acrylic windows.

The boat’s interior layout allows for easy cleaning as surfaces sport a smooth gel coat and satin-finished cherry trim. The solid but lightweight furniture bears the same Core-Cell foam core employed on the hull, deck, and hardtop. Plus, there’s ample storage for all your sailing equipment, cleaning supplies, and provisions.

A Maine Cat 30 can cost up to $110,000.

Heavenly Twins 27

The overall design of this well-equipped catamaran makes it a superb pocket cruiser.

Heavenly Twins 27 manages to fit not one but two coachroofs on hulls that are only 27 feet (8.20 m) long. Canoe sterns and a central cockpit separating the duo coachroofs form the boat’s other prominent features.

Famous for their excellent build quality, medium-depth draft, and narrow beams, Heavenly Twins 27 appeals to a wide range of boating enthusiasts.

These include solo sailors, weekend sailors, cruising families, circumnavigators, beginner sailors, and experienced liveaboards such as this famous Youtube channel “Kittiwake”.

The vessels house double cabins in the hulls while the forward starboard contains the heads and, to port, the galley. You can easily access the bar from the well-protected cockpit while the Comfordesk accommodation converts into a double dock.

A stoop through allows access from below-deck to the aft compartment without going through the cockpit. There’s ample storage space throughout the boat, plus you can section off the large stateroom into smaller double compartments if desired.

The price range for this boat is $ 20,098 to $24,193. (I believe that kittiwake is for sale too)

30 ft inflatable catamaran

The last cruising catamaran on my list is the Aquilon 26 . This French-built cruising vessel is light in weight and trailerable, which means you can disassemble it in a few hours or transport it as-is.

Designing a boat that is possible to disassemble usually means that it is structurally less strong, which by no means is a problem during coastal sailing but the Aquilon 26 is mostly attractive to sailors who prefer inland lake sailing. It’s also suitable for beginner sailors.

Although there are no real “beginner cats” there are specs to consider if you are a beginner with catamarans, most of them I have listed in another article ( here ). Gabo

This 26-footer (7.92 m) has the potential for good speed though its layout is anything but conventional- which forms part of its appeal.

The cockpit works as the saloon, and a full bimini protects the crew from lousy weather. The starboard hull contains a dinette and galley, and the port has a double berth stateroom. The windows are quite unusual, but they provide lots of light, remarkably enhancing interior visibility.

Aquilon 26 can deliver an average cruising speed of 10knots (11.51 mph or 18.5 kph).

On a beam reach, you can expect around 25 knots (28.77 mph or 46.3 kph) with an adequate breeze ( I have never sailed at 25knots but researching this boat supposedly it is possible).

You can get this boat for under $50,000.

What Makes Small Cruising Cats Attractive?

Small cruising cats are ideal for sailing along the coast. But that’s not all. Under capable hands, properly fitted smaller cats can also deliver spectacular offshore passages similar to their larger counterpart (Heres a list of full-sized bluewater cats).

They can operate over long cruise ranges, cross oceans , and circumnavigate the globe . Smaller cats are also suitable for day sailing, overnight trips, and coastal or inland voyages.

For most sailors, comfort on board is crucial, so they’ll look for a vessel that guarantees a comfortable cruising experience. The good thing is that smaller vessels provide almost the same qualities and amenities that bigger vessels offer. Plus, you can do quite a bit with the available space, especially if it’s well laid out.

You’ll find that most 30-footer (9.14 m) or more miniature cruising cats comprise a galley, head, bunks, navigation and entertainment electronics, and refrigeration.

Sailors usually talk about these benefits of smaller cats:

  • They’re less expensive. Large boats are costly to buy. They also cost more to hire, maintain, and dock. You can buy a small-sized boat at a much lower price, and parts tend to cost less too. Besides, you get to use smaller sails, winches, and lighter lines than those applicable on a larger boat. And since marine services such as moorings and haul-outs get billed via boat length, a smaller cat makes sailing more affordable.
  • They boast superior builds. Most cruising boats under 30 feet (9.14 m) feature designs that are 30+ years old. In those days, weather forecasts were hard to come by and not as accurate, so boat builders used hulls with thicker fiberglass than the type found in today’s builds. Furthermore, everything in the boat, including rigs, rudders, hulls, keels and decks, was designed to withstand strong winds and high waves.
  • They have simpler systems. This means less time spent fixing and maintaining your boat. For instance, most small cruising cats often lack water-makers, hot water systems, or electric anchor windlasses.
  • They’re easier to handle. Smaller cats are simpler to sail than larger cats. It’s also easier to sail one single-handed or with a small crew.

What is the largest cat on person can sail?

The Disadvantages of Smaller Cruising Cats

Below are some of the most discussed downsides of small cats:

  • They have limited living space, storage, and amenities.
  • Though they don’t heel much, they are less comfortable than larger boats since they get tossed around much more easily in big ocean swells.
  • It’s not easy to accommodate crew for extended periods; hence there are fewer hands to share work.
  • They are slower and take longer to get to their destination.

Though fewer are on the cruising trails than their larger counterparts, small catamarans make ideal cruisers because they are simple, seaworthy, and pocket-friendly.

When choosing the best cat for your needs, focus on quality rather than size. A well-planned 30-footer (9.14 m) is reliable and provides ample space for your accommodation, dining, and relaxation, plus a storage room for provisions and any spare parts you might need.

And if you want even more info than I have presented to you in this article I would recommend a book from Serj, he makes it easy to understand why size matters and how to find a cat suited for your needs (amazon link )

10 Best Inflatable Catamarans To Buy In 2024

Takacat-T380LX

What Are Inflatable Catamaran Sailboats?

Catamarans are easily spotted by being water vessels consisting of 2 parallel hulls (of equal size), connected together by a frame. With a priority on smooth sailing and stability, Inflatable Catamarans are your holiday go to option as they can be driven by engines, sails or a pair of oars.

Oars are used for rowing, and they’re connected to the water vessel via oarlocks or designated pivot points. The difference between a pair of oars and paddles is that paddles are held by the paddlers when propelling the vessel, while oars are connected to watercraft via oarlocks.

With so much to see and do during the holidays and at your leisure, you sure wouldn’t want to miss out on your scheduled adventurous activities. Inflatable catamarans give you the option to go where bigger catamarans/boats would prefer not to, due to sizing and sometimes distance. Take a dive into our top 10 picks for the best kayaking GPSs on the market.

Inflatable catamaran dinghies are geometry stabilized water vessels that derive their stability from their wide beams. They’re unique in size, as their typical size range is between 8 – 14 feet (∼ 244 – 427 cm).  The inflatable catamaran could get slightly larger depending on the specific purpose for which it was created.

They are used for a host of different purposes, of which some include: relaxation & picnicking, sporting, diving/snorkeling, fishing, marine research, and search and rescue. Before we proceed any further, even though inflatable catamarans have excellent maneuverability and are relatively stable, always ensure you’ve got a life vest, or if you’re with the crew, life vests .

Also of important note is, if you’re inexperienced, you shouldn’t try doing this on your own. It’s advisable you have an experienced individual with you before heading out, it’s better safe than sorry.

In addition to inflatable catamarans being very portable and lightweight, they provide a lot of comfort alongside fun. Some important accessories to have handy with your inflatable dinghies or catamarans include anchors, foot pumps, storage covers, oars (or paddles), cart with wheels (for ease of transport from and to the target water location).

BRIS Inflatable Boat Reviews: Who Makes These Boats?

If you’re looking for a tough inflatable boat for serious use, you’ll surely come across BRIS.

BRIS Inflatable boats are easily one of the most popular for online buyers.

Their high-quality, durable boats have hundreds of happy customers. Plus, they offer a variety of inflatables for every use.

However, these boats don’t come cheap. Getting a BRIS will always be a commitment, which brings up the question…

Is it worth it?

Today, we’re taking a deeper look at the BRIS Inflatable brand. We’ll look at:

  • Who BRIS is made for
  • The BRIS Inflatable boat line-up
  • The BRIS accessory shop
  • Who’s behind BRIS

With these, you can decide for yourself is BRIS is worth it.

Let’s begin!

Table of Contents

Who is BRIS For?

Bris inflatable boats, bris mini catamarans, bris inflatable river rafts, bris inflatable kayaks, bris accessory shop, who makes bris boats, alternative brands.

If you’re looking for a simple, affordable inflatable boat… look elsewhere.

BRIS isn’t something for people who are just getting started, these are for serious boaters .

Sure, these aren’t the boats the Navy Seals use , but they very well could be. All BRIS boats are strong, durable, and packed with features.

Unfortunately, this makes them fall on the expensive side.

Their price tags scare away people who aren’t willing to invest. Instead, they attract fishermen and adrenaline junkies who need a high-quality inflatable boat.

BRIS Product Line-Up

One of the reasons BRIS is popular is because they have so. many. boats.

They come in all shapes and sizes for your every need.

Their line-up can be broken up into three categories:

  • Standard Inflatable Boats
  • Mini Catamarans
  • Inflatable River Rafts
  • Inflatable Kayaks

Let’s have a look at each one.

What sets BRIS aside from other brands?

Their durability .

BRIS produces some of the strongest inflatable boats you can get your hands on.

Even their smallest, cheapest boat is made from 1100 denier 0.9mm PVC . This gives it excellent tear, UV, tension, and breaking resistance. Not to mention their pro models go all the way up to 2000 Dtex, 1.2mm PVC !

Yes, PVC will never be as strong as Hypalon . However, compared to other brands, BRIS’s PVC is quite special.

Plus, their heat-welded seams won’t give. Great material is no good if the seams break right away. With BRIS though, both won’t let you down.

BRIS boats also come in a bunch of sizes . You can get their 8.2 ft recreational and fishing boat…

Whatever you’re doing, there’s the perfect size for that (unless you want something smaller than 8.2. BRIS only makes medium to large inflatables) .

All these boats were designed for serious activity , such as fishing, diving in deep water, or rescue missions. They all have solid-floors, whether that be a high-pressure air floor or an aluminum one .

Watch how to set-up a BRIS pro boat here:

They also have a bunch of features all around . They come with aluminum oars, oarlocks, benches, one-way drain valves, steel d-rings, repair kit , carry bag, and a foot pump… what more could you ask for?

As for color, most BRIS boats come in white. But you can also opt for their black or red boats for more style.

These mini cats have all the features of a catamaran in inflatable form. Compared to standard inflatables, they’re more

  • Manueverable

At 11ft long, these mini cats are going to be a blast out at the lake. Unlike the standard inflatables, they’re not suitable for rugged use. But for luxury, it’s difficult to find a better option.

They’re more stable on the water thanks to their double-hulls. They’re more spacious thanks to their open nose. And they’re more maneuverable thanks to their ingenious design.

You get the point… these are luxury boats.

Going river rafting?

BRIS has you covered.

With their inflatable river rafts, bringing a raft upstream has never been more convenient. You can deflate and fold them up into a compact ball whenever you wish.

BRIS 1.2mm 9.8ft Inflatable White Water River Raft Inflatable Boat FloatingTubes

  • Premium Quality Materials : BRIS rafts are made by 2,000 Dtex 1.2mm PVC fabric with polyester support, having excellent resistance to tearing, tension and breaking . It is a much more heavy-duty PVC...

These rafts were built to be strong and durable – just like all BRIS products. They were built to withstand whatever the river throws at them.

That’s why they’re made from 2,000 Dtex, 1.2mm PVC fabric . They also have heat-welded seams to ensure that no air escapes.

With their super stable high-pressure drop stitch flooring – you’ll never feel wobbly even when the river gets rough. They also have a unique self-bailing system that allows you to choose your speed.

BRIS’s river rafts start at 9.8 ft, all the way up to 15 ft long. So if you’re up for some rafting with your friends, BRIS will definitely be worth a shot.

BRIS 1.2mm PVC 15ft Infltable White Water River Raft Floating Raft Tubes Boats

If river rafts weren’t enough, BRIS also has its own line of inflatable kayaks.

These aren’t your traditional kayaks which feature only 1-2 seats with very little space. Instead, BRIS’s kayaks are more like super-thin inflatable boats.

BRIS 12 ft Inflatable Kayak Fishing Tender Inflatable Poonton Boat 2 Person Kayak

Like the rest of BRIS’s products, these kayaks are also extremely durable.

If you want a single-person kayak, BRIS also makes one “ BRIS Inflatable High Pressure Kayak Canoe Boat One Person “

You’re going to be hard-pressed to find a single-person kayak as high-quality as this one.

BRIS doesn’t only make boats, they also make everything boat-related.

Their shop includes:

  • Inflatable fenders
  • Drain plugs
  • Halkey Roberts Valves (and HR valve adapters)
  • Boat covers

Looking for replacement parts? This is one of the best places to get them.

Plus, they also have bimini tops

Portable Bimini Top Cover Canopy for Length 7.5-11 ft Inflatable Boat (2 Bow)

  • Marine grade polyester 600D canopy coated PU
  • Light weight aluminum & portable design

If you want to stay cool in the shade, these will protect you from the sun when you’re out in the water.

When it comes to quality, no one can doubt BRIS has it.

However, if there was any downside to BRIS Inflatable, it would be their customer service.

There’s something slightly shady about this brand.

What do I mean?

Well, it’s impossible to pin down where these boats come from. BRIS’s website has an American address, but all that leads to is a warehouse.

From my research, I gathered that BRIS boats are made in China .

Where in China? No clue.

BRIS doesn’t have a landline number, only an email address. Plus, some customers run into trouble when it comes to warranties.

BRIS offers a 3-year warranty for all their boats. But when it comes time to use this, you may have a difficult time.

Again, their customer service isn’t great.

If you want good return policies, the best place to buy a BRIS is through a trusted dealer.

For example, Amazon has a 30-day return policy. If there’s a problem, you can return the boat to Amazon without having to deal with BRIS.

All that said, you should remember that BRIS boats are very high quality. Getting a bad egg from them is rare. Most buyers will never have to deal with BRIS anyway.

It’s hard to find a brand that produces boats at BRIS’s quality.

But one noteworthy competitor is ALEKO .

ALEKO is famous for its highly-durable aluminum floor boats. Unlike BRIS, there’s nothing shady about ALEKO. They’re based in Washington and are known for providing great customer service.

They don’t have as many options as BRIS – they are, after all, a company that sells so many other things aside from boats. But in terms of quality, it’s hard to judge who has the upper hand.

Is BRIS worth it?

I won’t say.

But if you’re looking for a tough boat that will survive all the challenges you throw at it…

…If you’re willing to invest in an inflatable boat that won’t let you down…

…If you don’t mind dealing with a company that isn’t too transparent so long as they deliver the best quality…

… then BRIS will be perfect for you !
