2001 Vanguard Vector
Seller's DescriptionGo to Sailing Texas classifieds for current sailboats for sale Vanguard Vector, 2001 skiff in pristine condition The Vector is a double trapeze performance skiff by legendary designers Bob Ames and Steve Clark. It is light, reactive, fast, and fun to sail with a self tacking jib, a fully battened mainsail, and an asymmetric spinnaker on a telescopic sprit. It was voted “performance dinghy of the year” by Sailing World in 2001. This particular boat sat in a warehouse for 15 years and has been sailed very little since. When I bought it two years ago, it still had paper shipping stickers on the bow. The boat is ready to sail as-is and includes: Titled and licensed trailer Dolly with fat wheels (nests on the road trailer) New Kinder Industries spinnaker sock. Like-new Kinder Industries top cover. Brand new high-performance tapered sheets. Dual adjustable trapeze. Mainsail, jib, and asymmetric spinnaker in very good condition. Two-parts mast: aluminum lower half and carbon fiber upper part. Custom-made cassette rudder-head for launching in shallow water (or return to the standard fixed head setup). Recently faired and polished rudder and centerboard. Rig and SailsAuxilary power, accomodations, calculations. The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more. Classic hull speed formula: Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL Sail Area / Displacement RatioA measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more. SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
Ballast / Displacement RatioA measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize. Ballast / Displacement * 100 Displacement / Length RatioA measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more. D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
Comfort RatioThis ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more. Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
Capsize Screening FormulaThis formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more. CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64) This listing is presented by SailingTexas.com . Visit their website for more information or to contact the seller. About the authorsRobert ludlum. Robert Ludlum was the author of twenty-seven novels, each one a New York Times bestseller. There are more than 225 million of his books in print, and they have been translated into thirty-two languages. He is the author of The Scarlatti Inheritance, The Chancellor Manuscript, and the Jason Bourne series—The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum—among others. Mr. Ludlum passed away in March, 2001. Patrick LarkinWhen I was nine years old, I caught the writing bug. My fourth-grade teacher read one of my stories to the whole class—something I found both embarrassing and exhilarating, all in the same moment. I doubt that story would qualify as great literature, but it was pretty darned exciting for a bunch of kids caught inside on a rainy day, full of archers and knights, ambushes, and thundering cavalry charges. I've been interested in history, especially military history, for as long as I can remember. (As a three-year-old, one of my favorite books was a collection of illustrated stories about some of the great battles of history. My parents grew a bit worried when they found me arranging my blocks as an Athenian phalanx and formations of Persian archers and cavalry to fight the Battle of Marathon, but it was too late...the damage was done.) After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in English, I went to work in Washington, D.C.—doing my bit as a researcher for a committee of the House of Representatives. Other jobs as a political and corporate speechwriter followed. Along the way, I wrote adventures for a Star Trek role-playing game and created the background history for Battletech—which has now spawned a whole series of popular board games, computer games, and novels. In 1985, I met Larry Bond while he and Tom Clancy were finishing their book RED STORM RISING. Larry and I teamed up in 1987, and our first book, RED PHOENIX, hit the New York Times best seller list as soon as it was published in 1989. With bolstered confidence (or an inflated ego, depending on whom you ask!), I abandoned speechwriting to work as a full-time novelist. Over the next nine years, Larry and I wrote four more novels together—VORTEX, CAULDRON, THE ENEMY WITHIN, and DAY OF WRATH. While writing these books, I was also lucky enough to meet and marry a wonderful woman. We live in Central Texas with our two children. In the years since, I've written THE TRIBUNE, the first in a series of Roman-era thrillers featuring Lucius Aurelius Valens. THE TRIBUNE blends action, adventure, history, romance, and a hint of the supernatural. It's now available as an eBook through Amazon. The next story in the series, THE STANDARD-BEARER, should be available soon. In the years since THE TRIBUNE first appeared, I've also written two fast-paced contemporary thrillers in Robert Ludlum's Covert-One series, THE LAZARUS VENDETTA and THE MOSCOW VECTOR. If you enjoy international intrigue, cutting edge science, and spine-tingling action, these books are for you. Customer reviews

LENGTH: Traditionally, LOA (length over all) equaled hull length. Today, many builders use LOA to include rail overhangs, bowsprits, etc. and LOD (length on deck) for hull length. That said, LOA may still mean LOD if the builder is being honest and using accepted industry standards developed by groups like the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).
