Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.

We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.

Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

  • Politically sensitive comments
  • Promotional content
  • Illegal activities
  • Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
  • Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
  • Spam and fake content
  • Animal cruelty
  • Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
  • Any violation of our review guidelines.

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.

An accommodation can reply to a review.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.

Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.

Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Really, the only complaint we had was the shower wand. It did not want to consistently stay in place at the top of the shower wand bar. Maintenance did address the issue. It appears to be more of design flaw with this particular wand more than anything.

The staff was exceptional! Friendly, attentive, courteous. The North End / Long Warf location made access to the various tourist attractions easy whether on foot or taxi/Uber/Lyft. Given the close proximity to the Long Warf activities and all that the North End has to offer, the Boston Yacht Haven is a quiet little oasis. The fresh chocolate chip cookies put out daily were a welcome snack after being out and about all day!

All perfect

The location is perfect. We were "two steps" from fabulous restaurants in the North End. Quick jaunt to Aquarium, T, everything but the inn was so cozy we didn't even want to leave our perfect little nest. My favorite part was staying is a quiet lovely inn in the middle of the city. The views over the harbour are picture-perfect. We chose our included breakfast which was brought to our room. Room had all the coffee and tea we needed. I will be back !

Felt a bit lonely along the wharf area and the entrance is hard to find. There were a few rowdy young people leaning up against our car in the parking lot.

Amazing helpful staff - namely Mo - sent a list of favorite restaurants prior to my stay and was super helpful in answering questions about the room like the amenities. Will and another young lady who's name I can't recall were extremely professional, polite and helpful. Loved the in room breakfast service. Super clean and modern room with a gorgeous water view. The Captain's lounge is relaxing and fun for pool players.

Slight hiccup with housekeeping but put right most graciously.

Ideal location a stone's throw from transport links, excellent restaurants and the Boston sites. Room was an excellent size for chilling between excursions and had brilliant views of the harbour. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. Huge shower that chucked out a good drenching. Easy to come and go at all times of the day and night with electronic key. Helpful staff, friendly and professional. Breakfast was delivered to our room and was delicious. (When we remembered to put our request out!) It didn't matter not having an in house restaurant because there were cafes and diners on the doorstep. Captain's Lounge area very comfortable but we didn't really need it because our room was so perfect.

Choice of poached egg, boiled egg on top of omelette would have been appreciated.

Whole experience was excellent, Staff, Location and facilities. Breakfast was very good but a choice of eggs other ways rather than just omelette would have been a bonus. The views across Boston bay were fantastic.

I have stayed here for maybe 4,5 times. My favorite little Inn at north end, Boston. Today I see snow. This place has only 11 rooms. Or is it 9? Anyway just small Inn. The staff will go home around 6:00ish. So if you arrive after the hour, there is the way to come in. Only one person stay for the security purpose all night long. (I think) But not staying at the front desk. They do have a complimentary breakfast. They do have an incredible view! And feel little isolated in a great way because this inn on the edge of the bay, but not really isolated physically. I will be staying here if the room is available every time I will come to Boston. I am hesitated to announce this jewel. I almost want to hide. But if you have chance enjoy staying here. If you need attention all the time from the staff, this may not be your place. When the staff is around, they are such a friendly kind staff. I love them.

Boutique hotel on the marina with unparalleled views of the harbor, attentive & friendly staff, recently renovated rooms with most amenities, complementary bottle of wine on arrival & breakfast is included, well appointed Captains Lounge with floor to ceiling glass for optimum harbor views, security guard at the gate, easy 9 min walk to the NE Aquarium & subway. We'll be back! (Limited on-site parking so check in early during busy season.)

My wife treated to night in Boston for my 40th birthday and so happy we chose to stay at the Boston Yacht Haven Inn. It was located so close to the North End, The Pointe, as well as Shopping. The General Manager Mike, and maintenance guy Renea were so great! We had a beautiful room that looked out at the harbor. The inn was decorated so tastefully and had beautiful wooden beams and and furniture. We really enjoyed our experience and will be coming back soon!

We had the most beautiful time here for our wedding anniversary! We decided to splurge and got room 210 and it was an absolute dream, worth every penny for those beautiful views all the way around! The front desk was always so kind and helpful, especially the sweet younger girl. The only con was that the parking situation was weird, but apparently the parking nearby was $30/day anyway which was cheaper than theirs, so not really an issue just something to be aware of. We like to walk, so we loved that it was apart from downtown but still close enough to walk everywhere too. Perfect location, perfect views, perfect room, perfect stay!!!

Boston Yacht Haven is all about quality first. Great rooms, clean common areas & facilities, friendly staff, not to mention the best view of Boston Harbor you can get. The marina is kept remarkably well which is why yachts come from all over to stay. Whatever you are looking for in an an Inn + Marina you will find at BYH

I made a booking with Boston Yacht Haven Inn & Marina on 1 April through the inn's website. The promotional rate was for a specific room, and the completed booking was for one night in August 2021. The next day I received a call and email from the inn's general manager. The email stated the rate I booked through the hotel website was an error, and I could either pay the hotel 5 times the rate I booked, or they would cancel my reservation. I replied saying that I regretted their booking system had an error, but I would like to keep the booking I paid for at the rate that was agreed to when I booked it. The Yacht Haven Inn's general manager replied back and reiterated that I could give them 5 times what I had already paid (and implied that I should be grateful for even that deal), or he would cancel my hotel reservation if I hadn't paid the additional amount within 24 hours. Needless to say the experience felt like a hustle, and it is not one that I would wish on any guest or customer. Boston has a lot of options for hotels, and I recommend choosing one of the many others the city has to offer. Shouldn't be hard to find a place with better customer service.

We had an excellent stay at the Boston Yacht Haven. The staff, Cheryl and Rick, were extremely hospitable. They make you feel comfortable and welcomed with their friendly and helpful demeanor. Our room was spacious and had all of the comforts of home such as table/chairs, couch, coffee maker, waters, hairdryer, iron/board,etc...The best part about the room is the view of the harbor. Windows are scattered all over to ensure you see all of the sights on the water. You have an even better view when you step out on your giant patio. The patio is HUGE. We loved taking pictures, drinking coffee, and watching the boats go by on it. Staying here was a truly special one of a kind experience and I highly recommend it.

We've stayed here many times - and will continue to stay here many more times! We typically come in the off season - but would love to spend a night when there is a high traffic of boats coming in and out of the marina, I'm sure it would make the stay that much more pleasurable. The accommodations are unbelievable. On our latest stay, we did not have a ton of activities planned throughout the trip, and I couldn't have been happier to have been stuck on this hotel during the snow/ice storm. It had everything we could have wanted and more. We had a corner room which had phenomenal views a huge bathroom with a large shower, there isn't a bar so we brought a few bottles of wine and snacks, and relaxed in the room/downstairs lobby simply enjoying the amenities of the Inn. The next morning we were a little hung over but the homemade breakfast was a perfect fix. The only thing that I struggle with, is that it is off season and there were zero cars in the parking lot - and they couldn't even assist with parking... It would be nice in the winter when the members are quite as frequent to allow your few guests to park right outside of the hotel, at least a car per room (which I believe there are only 8 of anyways). Regardless, we are looking forward to returning for another enjoyable stay.

Stayed here with the wifey and it was the best time . View straight to the yachts in the back . Felt like a billionaire for a couple of days . Definitely need to come back . It was really clean . Pool table was fun downstairs . The free chips and biscotti were amazing . If you want to stay in the north end And can afford it . This is the place

Harborfront Boutique Hotel in Boston

boston harbor yacht club hotel

What’s truly unique about this small Boston Inn is its expansive luxury marina. Staying at this discrete Inn, you are amongst the biggest most expensive yachts docked at the beautiful marina in front. In fact Boston Yacht Haven Inn has evolved from a previously exclusive private yacht club. Now guest can relax in the resort’s  grand common spaces, like the gracious Captain’s Lounge with its floor to ceiling windows looking out over the harbor and the marina’s mega yachts. Here guest can enjoy billiards, big screen sports events, and a BYOB bar, plus the frequent Wine & Cheese Socials with management and marina guests.

Walk the pretty Harborwalk to Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market . You’re also a short stroll to Boston’s North End and the best Italian restaurants in New England in this authentic, pungent, lively neighborhood. Families – we recommend you walk to Boston’s Aquarium and Boston’s Children’s Museum, or grab a quick cab to the Science Museum, Planetarium and IMax theatre.

The team at Boston Yacht Haven is not only friendly and efficient, they are primarily Bostonians with tremendous knowledge of their city, and happy to give insider tips and recommendations and where to go, to find the best bagel, chowdah, lobstah, where to shop, dine, and how to score tickets to the Sox.

Boston Yacht Club

Birthplace of the U.S. Power Squadron and home of the iconic Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race

ABOUT Boston Yacht Club, Marblehead’s oldest, is situated on the ‘town side’ of the harbor with great views up and down the harbor.  The Boston has established itself as a leader in both power boating and sailing, and is a popular destination over the winter for members of other clubs when their clubs are closed.

HISTORY The Boston Yacht Club was founded in 1866.  The 90 original members included the then-18 year old Nathanael Herreshoff who, in 1877, drafted the first sailing measurement rule that later became the basis for future handicap rating systems. In 1874 the first clubhouse was opened in South Boston.  Club members Edward Burgess and George Lawley designed and built the successful America’s Cup defenders of 1885, ’86, and ’87.  Herreshoff designed and built the next seven defenders, later teaming up with W. Starling Burgess (Edward’s son) who designed the winning J-boats in 1930, ’34 and ’37.  Following the Cup’s hiatus during World War II, Ted Hood stepped up to carry on the tradition. As sail maker, and sometimes skipper and designer, Hood held sway through 11 successful Cup defenses from 1958-77. During this twelve meters reign, the two-time contender for the defense, Nefertiti was backed by a BYC syndicate.  The BYC is also the organization from which The U. S. Power Squadrons was founded in 1914 with a mission to improve maritime safety and education through classes in seamanship and navigation.  The club helped organize the first Hospice Benefit Regatta, now an annual event, to raise money for the Hospice of the North Shore. In 1993 the club hosted the first World Disabled Sailing Championship ever held in North America, and the U.S. National Disabled Sailing Championships in 1995.

TODAY The BYC has 500 members and 400 yachts flying the club burgee.  The club offers a range of on-the-water programs to its regular and social category members, from family sailing in Sonars to junior sailing in Opti’s, to an annual members’ cruise.  The club also operates a restaurant and hotel.  The Boston co-hosts the iconic biennial Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race, the oldest of its kind (1905), and the popular, long-running Wednesday Evening Races, and more recently, invitational team (Jackson Cup) and match (Marblehead Cup) racing. The clubhouse has a formal dining room, porch dining, a bar, and outside entertaining areas all overlooking the harbor. The clubhouse showcases paintings and trophies reflecting the many achievements of BYC sailors in many classes over the centuries.

Founded in 2006, Barton & Gray is a boating membership club, one that hopes to make your life on the high seas much easier. From dayboating to sportfishing to special events like the SailGP ride, the brand can host you, your friends, your business partners, and really whoever you’d like on its various vessels dotted around the U.S. and other locales. B&G is an easy way to get on water without all the boating hassle—an idea, it seems, that has only become more sought after in recent years.

Boat clubs have been gaining traction as yachties and novices alike look for ways to avoid the headaches that can come from owning a vessel, such as maintenance costs, docking fees, and more. The membership programs bring the sharing model (similar to private aviation fractional ownership) to the forefront, making it possible to hop on a boat anytime and almost anywhere, depending on where the clubs are available.

Barton & Gray's

The firm has a tiered system to its membership program, so you can have access to as little or as much of the fleet as you’d like. The lowest rank, Sailor, has a $9,500 initiation fee attached and gives you access to an overnight stay on the catamaran as well as the fishing boats, all for an additional fee. For the other four tiers (Commodore, Admiral, Lieutenant, and Ensign), you can expect a $24,500 initiation fee, with varying quarterly dues attached. For the best value, stick with the Lieutenant level, which includes unlimited reservations on the Hinckley vessels and $14,625 in quarterly dues. If you feel like going all in, it’s the Commodore rank for you, with access to everything B&G has to offer and quarterly dues of $29,625. It all depends on what you’re interested in, how much boating you plan to do, and what exact locations you feel like exploring.

 Barton and Gray

Membership input is the primary driver of opening up new harbors, Barton & Gray says. The brand hears where members like to spend their time and where they would like to have access to the B&G fleet, and it looks for ways to make those areas accessible. This has led to the opening of the Charleston and Southampton locales, for example.

And that growth has been accelerating over the last five years, with a membership base of over 1,000 families. The pandemic lockdowns and the need for an escape influenced the boom, but B&G is still expanding. In the last 24 months, the club has added 16 new boats to the fleet, including that 62-foot catamaran, its largest yet. Though, the brand isn’t necessarily focused on the size of its offerings; it’s really about catering to that member experience.

Freedom Boat Club

“Our goal is to get as many people on the water as possible,” Brenna Preisser, president of Freedom’s business acceleration division, says during an interview with Robb Report .

Freedom does just that by allowing its members to captain their own boats. It’s the only thing you’ll have to do aboard the vessel, since the boat club takes care of everything else from cleaning to maintenance to repair. Of course, the driver du jour has to undergo a safety training before they take the helm; there’s also a pre-departure checklist before leaving the dock and a safety check upon your return. After that, though, it’s smooth sailing on the boat of your choice from the brand’s fleet, which typically includes vessels 24 feet and below—think runabouts, pontoons, and fishing boats.

The base membership for a family provides unlimited boating with four rolling reservations through the season—meaning you can have four reservations at one time, and once one is completed, you can make another—though typically a single boat reservation is time-limited and not for an entire day. The price can vary per market and per participant; generally, though, you’ll find an initiation fee of $5,000 and a monthly price of $350 to $399, says Preisser.

In 2019, when Freedom was acquired by Brunswick Corporation (which owns Mercury Marine, Sea Ray, and other marine brands), it had 19,000 memberships in 170 locations across the globe. Now, of course, that first number has ballooned by 42,000.

Freedom, like B&G, is still experiencing growth in the wake of the pandemic rush. This year, it’s up 2,600 members so far from 2023. One of the main reasons for this that the club allows new boaters to enter the industry. The other is rather simple: convenience.

Amid the continued expansion, Freedom is looking toward the future in other ways. The brand has just launched a pilot of its new Boston Whaler 280 Vantage in Charleston and Chicago, which is something it intends to scale, says Preisser. And, as it moves to larger, premium boats, the boat club will start dabbling in captained experiences, hopefully to make it a part of its core offerings. With the average MRSP of its vessels sitting under $70,000, the addition of the $300,000 280 Vantage will pack more punch in its fleet.

Freedom Boat Clubs

“Other than ownership, you’re not going to find in the market a brand-new 280 Vantage that you can captain for the value that we provide,” Preisser says.

As I sailed upon the Hudson River, it was easy to see the, well, ease of joining a boat club—and it’s even easier to enjoy. After all, all I had to do once I reached shore was hop onto the dock and go about my day. There’s nothing more convenient than that.
