•  Time of Year – Firstly, know which time of the year you want to book a luxury boat charter on the Brisbane River. Weather plays a big part in the type of experience you are seeking. For instance, during peak summer, it’s often hot and humid, and rain can be frequent and heavy. During the winter, it is drier; however, the evenings can be cold. Fortunately, you don’t have to let the rain bother you too much. Our yacht has many indoor spaces for you to enjoy and the Sun Room and spacious Saloon are completely weather-proof.
• Food and Drinks – With our commercial-size kitchen,  you can hire a caterer and enjoy professionally-prepared dishes. Or, you can throw some snags on the BBQ and chat as you share a casual lunch together.  We have all the platters, plates and cutlery you could possibly require so there is no need to bring any plastic plates or utensils onboard during your luxury boat hire. 
• Time of Day – Do you enjoy the sunset and the stars or want a warm day for swimming and sun-bathing on the bow of the MV Baroness? You may choose to enjoy the sunset with bubbly and light snacks to watch the lights of  Brisbane City and sneak a peek inside the waterfront mansions as you cruise the river under the stars.  The MV Baroness is well-lit for socialising under the stars with twinkling bistro lights on the Bow and Back Deck.   
•  Swimming – Only on a day trip to Moreton Bay can swimming be permitted. The size of the MV Baroness makes it difficult to anchor too close to land so swimmers must be proficient.   The MV Baroness has a swim mat onboard and range of floatation toys for guests to enjoy.  There is also a HUGE water Trampoline available.  Ask our booking agent Janine about it.

Package 1 – Day-trip Beaches & BBQ’s 

Departing at 12pm, our captain takes your crew out Island Hopping for a day of Watersports, BBQ buffet, Cold drinks and fun in the sun. Think Banana boats, cold beers, SUP’s and multiple bars.

Our boats are berthed at Marina Mirage. Please see the ‘contact us’ page on our website for further details and a map. Marina Mirage is about 10 mins from Surfers and 15 mins from Broadbeach.

Where can I park?

There is plentiful free parking at Marina Mirage/Mariners Cove which you are permitted to use.  Please check signage at time of parking and if parking overnight consider street parking to avoid towing.

What about other transport options?

There are lots of ways to get to the boat! The most popular (and cost effective/convenient) is often via Maxi Taxis.

I am short on time can you please help me out with catering/drinks?

Yes, we also offer catering and drinks service for your convenience. Please request our full catering list as advance bookings are required. We offer a range of catering options from grazing boards, to canapes and private chefs.

(Catering and drinks service options may be affected by Government restrictions due to Covid, please check at the time of your charter what the current restrictions are)

Do you have Eskies on board?

Yes we have Fridges & Eskies and we also provide ice. 

Where can we go on our charter?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. Where to go very much depends on what you would like to do and how long your boat charter is for so please feel free to discuss this with our team. In a 3 hour charter during the day our guests usually love a swim stop at Wavebreak Island where you can enjoy the range of island activities on board. Your skipper is knowledgeable in the local area and will make recommendations based on the conditions on the day.  If you don’t wish to swim in a 3 hour charter you instead opt to sail further north along the inside of South Stradbroke Island and see the millionaires mansions at Sovereign Islands.

In the evening we will generally sail north to watch the sunset and return to the southern part of the Broadwater to enjoy the city lights after dark which are just beautiful.

Will I get seasick?

We mainly operate in the calm, protected waters of the Gold Coast Broadwater. If we go offshore (into the open ocean) there is a possibility of large waves. 

Are your charters suitable for guests with limited mobility?

We have welcomed several guests on board with limited mobility. However we do realise that each individual is different in terms of ability and what they are comfortable with. Please take a look at the 360 tours on the ‘ Our Boats ‘ page for an ideal of getting around the boats and do bear in mind a big step up (or carry) is required to board the boats at the marina. Our friendly team will be happy to discuss further to ensure you and your guests are comfortable prior to making a booking.

Curlew Escape, is a large and luxurious  Bavaria Cruiser 45 luxury designed by BMW DesignWorks USA and architected by legendary naval architect Bruce Farr. 

Curlew Escape is very roomy with an overall length of 14.27 m (45‘) and a beam of 4.35 metres (14 feet). The upper deck has a large bench seating area in the cockpit, with full shade, plus an area to sunbake up towards the bow.

Curlew Escape is a Cruiser Racer. While extraordinarily comfortable due to her wide beam and high freeboard, she is also quick through the water and easy helm with her responsive dual rudders.

How much does a private yacht charter cost?

It only depends on the private yacht charter duration in hours. For example, we do from 2 hours to 10 hours for day charters. It does not matter how many guests you bring with you. 

What is a private yacht charter?

A private yacht charter is where you hire the whole yacht. Only the people you invite as guests are onboard with you, along with the crew.

How long does a private yacht charter take?

It depends on which cruise you select. We do from 2 hours to 10 hours and we do overnight and multi-day cruises.

How many people can I have on the private yacht charter?

You can have up to 12 people. The yacht is roomy and easily takes 12. We also do much smaller sizes with sometimes couples and smaller groups.

What if we have bad weather?

While South East Queensland enjoys great year-round weather we do have the occasional rainy day. We will happily reschedule your sailing day to avoid rain and bad weather.  

Can we do catering on our private yacht charter?

You can BYO or we have catering platters charged on a per person basis.

Can I BYO alcohol on our private yacht charter?

Yes, alcohol is BYO.

Will we be sailing on our private yacht charter?

Yes, we always sail whenever we have wind. 

What if it is too windy on the day of our private yacht charter?

We can adjust the sails in four settings. Reducing sail area reduces the wind force on the yacht. If a strong wind warning is forecast, we will contact you to reschedule.

What if the wind is blowing into our preferred destination on the day of our private yacht charter?

If the wind is blowing into your destination's anchorage at more than 10 knots it will not be possible to do watersports. Therefore we will either suggest an alternate destination or discuss a reschedule with you.

Yacht charters & sailing adventures, family christmas adventure.

Leave the devices at home and take your family for a day of family fun onboard a sailing boat.  For the week leading up to Christmas, Southern Cross Yachting is giving your family an opportunity to enjoy time together again after a busy 2022!  Our skipper will take you off into Moreton Bay for the day where you can work together to set sails, crank winches, pull ropes, dangle your legs over the side (only if you wish) and even steer the vessel. Bring your own lunch and alcohol welcome. 9am-4pm (approx) Price starting from $1000 inc GST (depending on group size)

Yacht Charters and Sailing Adventures

Southern Cross offers the largest selection of skippered charter yachts on Moreton Bay. All our yachts are in QLD Transport survey and are comfortably and comprehensively equipped with everything you could require to make your holiday or corporate event special, including sun awnings, refrigeration and dinghies with outboard’s. All you need to bring is bedding and supplies (or we can arrange for these to be on board when you arrive).

Our area of operation is the partially smooth water limits of  Moreton Bay  covering over 200 square miles of protected waters and beautiful islands stretching from Tangalooma to the Gold Coast. Charters depart and return from our base at Manly Boat Harbour. The harbour is ideally located, boasting a large selection of restaurants, yacht clubs, a pub and shops all within easy walking distance in Manly Village and many beautiful anchorages less than 2 hours sailing time away. Manly is located only 25 minutes’ drive from the Brisbane CBD and 20 minutes from the domestic and international airports.

For those who want to unwind, sit back and relax, we’ll do the sailing for you! Southern Cross Yachting can arrange a day out or holiday afloat to suit any budget. Be it a fully catered holiday on one of our luxury charter yachts or a fun day ‘racing around the cans’ we can arrange a sailing adventure that can be as strenuous or relaxing as you want it to be. Our fully qualified, friendly skippers know the  Moreton Bay  area better than most and will make your time afloat with us as enjoyable as possible.

Corporate and team building days

For corporate entertaining or as an incentive to your staff and customers, yachting is second to none. Southern Cross Yachting specialises in both organising corporate regattas and entertainment and conducting management training and team building courses. Whether your company is large or small we can design a cost-effective program to benefit your business.

Yachting, by its very nature creates the ideal environment to develop skills in management. It is the ultimate in team activities, demanding leadership, determination, commitment and a spirit of co-operation not available in other forms of adventure-based training. Yachting can be used not just as an activity to get your team working together but as an effective assessment for staff recruitment and promotion.

To successfully lead a yacht safely into port participants have passed tests rarely faced in management!

The training on board the yachts can be complemented with shore-based activities leading up to the event, and debriefing after. These programs are an ideal addition to sales conferences and seminars and can set the theme for major sales promotions or product launches.

Southern Cross Yachting can arrange these activities for groups of any size from a half day to 3 full day and nights. We can arrange everything from catering to hotel rooms and flights and the costs involved are much less than you might think!

Bareboat Charters

A bareboat charter on Moreton bay is a unique sailing holiday designed for either families or a small group of friends.

A bareboat charter is bare of crew but fully equipped to sail, lodge and cook for two to ten people. Not surprisingly, you must meet certain qualifications before your allowed to sail away with our catamaran! We require you to fill out a sailing resume to demonstrate your ability to handle the yacht, the weather conditions and the various systems aboard. We’ll also need to see a physical demonstration of your skills upon arrival.

In practical terms, you should have a reasonable amount of recent coastal cruising experience in a yacht more than 25 foot long (this need not be a boat you own however). For lesser experienced customers, we can provide a sailing assistant for part of your charter. This removes the responsibility and stress away from your shoulders and places it on the skipper. Over the years, this approach has worked exceptionally well with guests able to relax more and enjoy their holiday around Moreton Bay.

With so many outdoor activities to keep you entertained and a vast number of secluded anchorages to explore you’ll be struggling to fit everything in. Moreton Island National park is a popular destination offering guests natural beauty at its best. Try your hand at snorkeling around the Tangalooma wrecks while feeding the fish by hand or throw the crab pots over the side and catch the evening’s entre, complementing your BBQ dinner on the back deck of Aristocat.

Heading to the southern end of Moreton, a climb up the Big Sand Hills offers views all the way across to the Pacific ocean and for those adrenalin junkies try your hand at sand tobogganing.

As an alternative, your bareboat charter might have you head south and enjoy the peaceful anchorages offered towards South Stradbroke. After an interesting sail through the winding channels along the inside of South Stradbroke, enjoy some swimming and fishing around Jumpinpin and the popular Bedrooms anchorage. A little further south, Southport offers a great anchorage where guests can take a short walk across to a patrolled surf beach, explore the popular Surfers Paradise and dine at Marina Mirage.

A bareboat charter includes: a unique sailing holiday, marine park fees, RIB dinghy, dinghy fuel , gas, 2 x paddle boards, snorkeling and sporting equipment.

Off the eastern coast of Brisbane lies one of the world’s two largest sand islands which protect the coast from the open seas, making it a spectacular area to enjoy a harbour cruise. This islands name is North Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island. From Moreton Island, south, the coast is protected. These islands provide a protected waterway, perfect for cruising, and only 20 to 30 minutes from Queensland’s capital city and Gold Coast attractions.

Marina facilities can be found at Jacobs Well, it is one of the closest marinas to Brisbane, Moreton and North Stradbroke Islands all offer protected anchorages on the western sides.

The summer months, from November to April, draw average temperatures of 18-27 degrees. January to March is usually the months of highest rainfall with hot days followed by occasional tropical storms. From May to October, winter temperatures average at around 17 degrees Celsius. There are lots of different types of yacht and boat charters available in the Brisbane area.

Moreton Bay is Brisbane’s own marine playground and sea sanctuary. Dotted with unspoilt islands you’ll find that it’s also one of Brisbane’s favourite getaway spots. Packed with natural beauty, Moreton Bay is the place to spot dolphins, whales, turtles and manta rays, as well birdlife all in the one place.
