One of the best ways to explore Puerto Rico is by catamaran.

Whether you’re taking a trip to the east coast or the west coast, these catamarans have something special planned for their guests.

We had a group of 8 and the crew was fantastic! We did not experience anything but excellent service. The crew was very engaged and kept the trip fun, specific instructions were given regarding lunch and times of departure. Would definitely do again.

The crew was so friendly and welcoming, the food was outstanding, the drinks were even better and they didn’t stop serving! We had a child (7 years old) who had never been snorkeling and the crew did great having what he needed to learn. Will absolutely be back to enjoy! Keep up the amazing work!

Went with a big wedding crowd. My 7 and 2yr olds LOVED the trip!! It was awesome. The crew was excellent (im a sailor in MA). Professional, courteous to everyone, great service and funny as heck. It was a very nice trip my kids and us will never forget! Thank you guys! Will see you again this winter!

Extremely fun, absolutely beautiful catamaran trip with lively helpful crew! Lunch was perfect, music was as well, snorkeling was amazing and all equipment was above average. The island of Icacos is breathtaking.

I did the tour to icacos island and palomino with the captain Jay, pablito and I forgot the tall guy name but three of them were great! We had a blast on our tour. Drinks were amazing. The crew was making sure we were safe and the most important part make sure we had fun and we enjoy the tour. Thanks for everything !! I will be back.

chart

The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. They went above and beyond to ensure our trip was perfect. Not once I had to order for a refill of my drink. 11 out of 10, 100% recommended, I'll definitely repeat.

logo

Was all of our first time and it was so beautiful and fun. We got to see a barracuda, big jellyfish and a bunch of other little fish. We enjoyed the guys explaining everything, Oscar was fun and kept us entertained since the music wasn't working haha. Loved that lunch and alcohol was included, was so worth the money!

We went with a friend to visit Culebra Island and everything was very nice, the trip was very pleasant, the guides were very attentive, VERY good music and food, I recommend them, 10/10!!

Wonderful experience. Clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches, lush green islands, and a remarkable crew. It was a perfect day of swimming, snorkeling, and positive vibes all around. Highly recommend these guys.

My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. It was our first time experience and we loved it. We are beginner swimmers (to say the least) and the gentlemen were kind enough to get in the water with us so we wouldn’t miss the opportunity. Everyone on the boat was super friendly and made us feel like family! It’s definitely a must do activity when visiting the island. Looking forward to many more!!!

It was soo much fun. We took off on time went snorkeling not many fishes but still a great experience then we went to the flamingo island and got 2 hours to ourself to enjoy l. Crew was super friendly and kept the drinks coming. Would totally recommend

Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. A really beautiful afternoon/evening with super friendly guides, Omar and Arturo.

Puerto Rico Catamaran Tours

Quick Details

  • Hour Glass Duration: 2 hours (sunset) , 5 hours (day)

Experience the Beauty of Fajardo on a Day Sail

SPREAD EAGLE II departs for a palm-fringed tropical island at 9 a.m. from ‘J’ Dock at Villa Marina in Fajardo, a 30-mile drive east from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Then, it’s about a one-hour catamaran sail to an offshore island and the reef.

There’s something for everyone on our day sail adventure. Kids from two months old to 90 years old have enjoyed the trip as much as we’ve enjoyed having them.

Once at the island, we lower a stairway into knee-deep water so you can get your gear to the beach safe and dry. Then you can swim, beach comb, splash in gin-clear water or stare back at the brilliantly colored tropical fish as you snorkel the reef, or just laze on the white sand beach or on board under the cockpit shade awning, the choice is yours.

The reefs are teeming with parrotfish, foureye butterflyfish, sergeant majors, and wrasse. The variety is too long to list, so you should just come to see them all for yourself.

Ask one of the crew to see the fish, coral, and shell identifying charts on board. SPREAD EAGLE II even provides lunch for the fish. With a little patience, you can get the fish to eat bread right out of your hand.

The Day Trip Fee Includes:

  • Free brand new snorkel – take it with you at the end of the trip.

Out of everything we did in PR this was by far my favorite. The guys are such great entertainers and servers as well! Our drinks were never empty and the food was so good. My boyfriend and I had so much fun snorkeling and the island they take you to is so beautiful!

My friends and I booked this Catamaran trip as part of our recent vacation in San Juan. The staff was professional and fun, and the trip went really smoothly. Would definitely book again!

Very enjoyable! Carlos, our guide, was excellent! He was so knowledgable, informative, nice, patient and loved sharing his culture. He was an excellent driver and very personable. He even stopped at a local place for lunch before leaving the forest that we didn't expect. What a treat!

This trip was amazing! The staff on the vessel are top notch, very caring and made you feel welcomed, safe and comfortable. Willy does a great job helping you learn how to snorkel. This is a must do if you visit Puerto Rico. Had so much fun!!

This was our first family vacations together. We choose to do the Catamaran day trip to Culebra. It was the highlight of our 8 day vacation. The crew of of Alex, Willie, the captain and Coral were awesome. I had been to Culebra before but the other 11 had not and no one was disappointed. The food, crew and organization of the whole operation from booking to the Marina was professional and on schedule. We highly recommend East Island Excursions.

What an amazing ride! My son and I had an amazing time. The ride was awesome as we sat outside the entire time, the buffet lunch was delicious, Flamenco beach was beautiful and the staff was friendly and funny. We had a great time! We will definitely do this again next year.

Great excursion!!!

Great excursion!!!

Excellent day trip and awesome crew! This was my second time taking the excursion. The Culebra Island is absolutely beautiful. The crew members were all very friendly and helpful. It was a great experience.

Culebra snorkeling trip

Do you like crystal clear ocean and snorkeling? Do you like water that is not to cold or too warm? Do you like rum? You get all this and more when you take this trip to snorkel a couple of reefs and then wind down at the gorgeous Flamenco beach (Rated the 2nd most beautiful beach in the world by the Discover channel). I could have stayed here for days – the staff was courteous and knowledgeable. You should be able to swim to take this tour, unless you want to stay on the boat the entire time. I saw children as young as 4, but I would not recommend this for a child under 8 years of age.

The Catamaran is absolutely the best trip ever. The Crew is Exceptional..Levi, aka The Coolest White boy in Fajardo PR Sorren, Jessie and The Captain Manny meet every expectation you will need in this excursion. This is a must with this Crew & company everything is epic!!!Food and drinks are beyond your expectations!

Ops @ East island excursions

This was a very fun and exciting trip for my family and I. We did the trip to Culebra. I want to first say The Crew Levi, Sorren, Jessie and Captain Manny were beyond great and made sure everyone was accommodated. Every few minutes they made sure we were good with drinks. A couple of my family members got sea sick and they were right there to help out clean up and make sure they were comfortable. The snorkeling was awesome and before we went in the crew informed us of all of the safety and dangers of swimming by the protected reef. Then we stopped at flamenco one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. All around a cool experience and everyone enjoyed themselves. Definitely bring a waterproof camera to take lots of pictures and bring cash to tip these wonderful workers. Customer service A+++

Very Fun and informative

Very Fun and informative

Had a great time with this company. Well-organized, which was good because they have many different options leaving at around the same time. We did the snorkeling excursion and then swimming at the Island of Culebra. Amazing views in the clear water. My boys loved jumping and flipping off the side of the boat. If you get sea-sick or are not sure, buy some Dramamine. Quite a few people got seasick but we had all taken a pill about an hour before the trip and had no problems. Oh, and free rum drinks for Mom and Dad!

Catamaran and Snorkeling

Catamaran and Snorkeling

We took the catamaran tour to Culebra for snorkeling and a few hours at Flamenco beach. The ride there was exciting and let me be the first to tell you- be prepared to get wet. The snorkel gear was nice. The boat was clean and spacious for the amount of people that were on it. Lunch was buffet style and was delicious. The rum drinks were very tasty. Flamenco beach is breathtaking and I will go back for sure. The crew on the boat did such a good job caring for us. Alexandra and Herman were the deck crew that made sure we all had everything we needed. They were amazing! This tour was a blast and we would use this company again for sure.

This was the perfect day!

This was the perfect day!

My family and I did the trip to Culebra & Flamenco Beach on July 31, 2017. We had such an amazing time. Levi in particular was there for each and every member the entire day. They were all very attentive and caring. The trip out was very rough because of the current but Levi and crew did their best to keep us feeling better. Once we arrived to go snorkeling, the crew made sure we were fell fed and safe. The best part of the trip was Flamenco Beach. It was an experience my wife and kids will never forget. Beautiful sand and water. I highly recommend this trip for anyone visiting Puerto Rico.

Amazing Trip & Experience

Amazing Trip & Experience

My husband and I booked spots on the Island Flyer catamaran and our guides were Arturo, Julie, Willy and Luis. They were all fantastic. This catamaran was a little smaller than the other ones that are available so it didn’t feel super packed or uncomfortable. We met some great people on the boat. The food and snacks and drinks they served were all delicious and readily available. The snorkel spot we stopped at was beautiful and Culebra island was magnificent. Flamenco beach is in the top 10 in the world for a reason. Thank you east island excursions for and amazing time!!

Culebra Island Catamran

Culebra Island Catamran

My friend and I were lucky enough to come across East Island Excursion for our Culebra trip. Everything was perfect, from the booking to the actual excursion. We couldn’t have asked for a better crew… Captain Manny, Levi, Jorge, Raymond, Alexandra and I can’t forget Domingo who was our transportation to and from our hotel. Although the weather wasn’t the best that it could’ve been, our crew made up for it. They really strive to cater to you in every possible way (even diving for my sunglasses which I dropped when we had anchored). I totally would recommend East Island Excursion for any of their tours… you will not be disappointed!!

A Must Do!!

A Must Do!!

We had a blast! Highlight of our trip! Made new friends and the crew was outstanding! The snorkeling was great. I hope my pictures turn out. I would do this again 100 times over !!!!

Paradise and new friends

Paradise and new friends

This is the second time I’ve used East Island Excursions and I don’t plan on using any other company. We’ve chartered a private catamaran through East Island & have taken a regular public catamaran to Culebra. The captain and guides are excellent, they’re super fun and make you feel at home. You can tell they LOVE what they do. We had Levi, Christen and Carlos as our captain and guides on our private catamaran. They give you advice on the best beaches and snorkeling places but they allow you to make your own decision. The price for a private charter and round trip transportation is EXTREMELY reasonable! I plan on renting the boat again next year.

BEST DAY TRIP IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

BEST DAY TRIP IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

Reserve your spot now! This trip to Culebra, Flamenco Beach is SO much fun and is so beautiful! We sat outside on the Eco Isleno and enjoyed the beautiful views leaving Fajardo cruising to Culebra. Our amazing team of Alexis, Mariel and William took the best care of us – from safety tips, to snorkeling equipment, to a great lunch, and even better drinks – they were so much fun! We would ABSOLUTELY use East Island Excursions again!!

OUR FAVORITE DAY IN PUERTO RICO!!

OUR FAVORITE DAY IN PUERTO RICO!!

The captain and crew were awesome and not afraid to join the fun, snorkeling and sights were breathtaking! The water was clear and they do not cheat you on the rum. Plenty of fish to be seen!

Amazing!!

I was in Puerto Rico with 9 of my friends and we were staying on the other side of Puerto Rico. We drove 3 hours to the place and it was definitely worth every minute. We choose to snorkel in Culebra island and go to Flamenco beach. The staff on the boat were great they checked on you constantly. The food was perfect for the type of excursions. We jumped off the side of the boat and went swimming, took amazing pictures. Snorkeling in Culebra was beautiful, but Flamenco beach was the best part, most beautiful beach I have seen. The music on the boat was great, Alexis was very entertaining and helpful. It was 100% worth our 3 hour drive.

Breathtaking!

Breathtaking!

Just great, we had a trip and was better than expected, snorkeling was an outstanding experience, flamenco beach it was stunning. Also the food its was really good. In addition the Crew of the spirit are super, William the captain , Coral and the others, they are the best, they are welcoming, kind, and they show professionalism and respect for the environment, and they educate people in how to protect the reef. Go Beach Hopping Like a Puerto Rican

Puerto Rico Beaches - Best beaches to visit near San Juan

You’ll be tempted to enjoy the beaches of San Juan and remain close to the hotel.  The beaches in San Juan are nice, but they’re on the Atlantic Ocean side, get more crowds, and lack some enchanting traits you can find on beaches outside of the city.  This small island is packed with great beaches, and we can tell you that once you start beach hopping, you’ll become addicted and return for more.   To maximize your time while staying in San Juan, we have compiled a list of the best beaches to explore near San Juan.

Beach Tours from San Juan

Suggested itinerary from san juan.

Beaches are listed from nearest to farthest from San Juan. Driving times with regular traffic

East of San Juan

  • La Posita de Piñones –  Loiza, Puerto Rico – 20 minutes drive
  • Luquillo Beach – Luquillo, Puerto Rico – 40 minutes drive
  • Beach at Icacos Cay – Fajardo, Puerto Rico – 1 hour drive

West of San Juan

All the following beaches have one thing in common, they are natural pools on the north coast.  Coral walls create a shield from the open rough waters of the Atlantic, creating a natural pool.

  • Mar Chiquita – Manati, Puerto Rico – 40 minutes drive
  • La Poza de Las Mujeres – Manati, Puerto Rico – Best during summer, not safe to swim in winter. – 45 minutes drive
  • La Poza del Obispo – Arecibo, Puerto Rico – 1-hour drive – Please do not climb the wall behind the beach.
  • Playa Sardinera – Hatillo, Puerto Rico – 1 hour drive

During inclement weather, these calm water pools become like whirlpools, making it hard for children and adults to swim.  Please do  NOT climb on the coral walls , they can be slippery, the stone has sharp edges and a big wave could surprise you, causing a fall that could lead to falling in open water and loss of life.  Please enjoy these beautiful beaches safely.

For a great day trip on the west coast of Puerto Rico, leave early and visit the following beaches on the northwest coast, in the towns of Isabela and Aguadilla.

  • Pozo Teodoro in Isabela, Puerto Rico – 1.5 hour
  • Jobos Beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico – Lunch at Jobos, there are plenty of seaside bars and restaurants.  It’s a fun beach with a laid-back Puerto Rican beach vibe, lounge rentals available, and surfing lessons. – 1.5 hour drive
  • Crash Boat Beach in Aguadilla – Spend the rest of the day at Crash Boat Beach for swimming, snorkeling (when the water is calm), sunset, and dinner. – 1 hour and 45 minutes drive

Tips for a Fun, Budget Friendly and Stress Free Beach Hopping Experience

Perhaps you like to plan things well; we encourage you to let that go and go beach hopping the Puerto Rican way, nice and relaxed.

Here are our tips for a splendid experience on the coastline:

  • Rent a car for a day to enjoy beach hopping at your own pace.
  • Pack light , you only need a beach towel, sun block, swimsuit, regular clothes to wear over your swimwear when dining.  If you need anything, you can find almost everything at a Walgreens Pharmacy or local grocery store.
  • Stop by a bakery , load up on water, Puerto Rican treats, and sandwiches, and enjoy the island life.
  • Let your hair down , play your favorite tunes, and listen to them a bit louder than you’re used to.  It’s ok.  That’s the Puerto Rican way.
  • When you get hungry , you’ll find plenty of beachside spots, roadside food trucks, and chinchorros (tiny simple food places) serving inexpensive but delicious traditional fritters.

Driving in Puerto Rico

Driving in Puerto Rico is easy, traffic is congested coming out of San Juan, but once you’re out of the city, you’ll be on your way to a nice adventure on the road.

Best Time to Go Beach Hopping

Weekdays are more mellow since locals are at work, so if you like to be away from crowds, weekdays from Tuesdays to Fridays are the best days to go beach hopping around the island.  However, if you love a lively local vibe, you’ll have a lot of fun joining locals at the beach, they certainly know how to make it more lively with music, laughter and fun water sport rentals more available at local beaches for the whole family to enjoy.  Many beachfront restaurants offer live entertainment during weekends.

Wander to the Wildly Beautiful West

Best places to visit in Puerto Rico near San Juan - West Coast

Ask any local where they love to go for summer vacation within the island and the majority will say, the west coast of Puerto Rico .  When speaking about the main island of Puerto Rico not including Culebra and Vieques, the west coast has the best beaches , the most variety of local eateries, the best sunsets, the best surfing beaches, and the most friendly and lively municipalities.  You can spend weeks exploring the West Coast, to make your vacation planning easier, we have created a few itineraries packed with fun things to do and beautiful places to see in one day.  It will be a long but great day, so leave as early as possible from San Juan to beat the heavy traffic.

You can end your day with a visit to the bioluminescent bay in La Parguera before you head back to San Juan on Route 52, our preferred road to get to San Juan with the least traffic lights and congestion.

Excursions you May Enjoy from San Juan - No Car Rental Required

Itinerary 1.

From San Juan, take Rt. 18 to Highway 52 from San Juan towards Caguas, pass Ponce and continue to the town of Guanica, your first stop.

  • Gilligan’s Island , try and get there early to take the earliest water taxi (ferry).  Stay until noon.
  • Lunch – The best and closest place to get lunch after Gilligan’s Island is Copamarina Beach Resort . If you wish to drive and eat at a local place, we recommend Taty’s Pinchos , a food truck that serves traditional fritters, and it is perfect for a quick lunch.  The average cost per person is $5.00, a little more for chicken pinchos (chicken on a skewer).  If you have room stop for frappes at La Frutera on the way to Cabo Rojo, not far from Taty’s Pinchos.
  • Head to Las Salinas in Cabo Rojo   – see location
  • Hike to Faro Los Morrillos   – see location
  • Visit La Playuela / Playa Sucia    – the beach is at the end of the road.  The road is a dirt road in a nature reserve and gets bumpy and muddy when it rains.

Dinner and Sunset

  • Option 1: Head back to Lajas for dinner at the fishing village.  At dark, take a tour of the bioluminescent bay in Lajas which is right near the restaurants, it is the only bay where you can swim in Puerto Rico.  See location
