Sailing in Newport Rhode Island’s waters is world-class and is a wonderful way to experience this beautiful and historic area. Aboard one of our two boats, you can enjoy one of our custom private day sail charters. Tour Newport Harbor, with its classic and mega-yachts and picturesque surroundings before venturing onto Narragansett Bay. Our two sailboats are icons of the Newport Sailing fleet and of Narragansett Bay. Lyra is our 44-foot Reliance sailboat and Wren is our 35-foot Allied Seabreeze. With a capacity of up to 6 guests each, both boats sail on daily charters from Newport RI, beginning mid-April through the end of October. We offer private 90-minute, two-hour, three-hour, half and full-day sailing charters. About this private charter:.

If you like the idea of sailing aboard your own private yacht and are a party of two to six guests, Starlight is the boat for you!  (For safety reasons, no children under 6). 

Starlight sails by private charter only meaning that it is just your group on board the boat.   

Starlight is an O’Day 34 one of the most popular boats in the U.S.  She has a very comfortable cockpit with many nice places to sit and sails well.  Relax in her cushioned cockpit, get an elevated view on her stern perch seats or sit up on the cabin top and stretch out on her foredeck.  There is a well-equipped cabin in which to stow gear or get out of the weather, a cooler for drinks and snacks, a stereo, light jackets and blankets for cool weather, and all required safety gear.

Where will you sail?

Pack a small picnic and come enjoy the spectacular scenery as we sail through beautiful Newport Harbor, into legendary Narragansett Bay and along the shoreline of Newport’s picturesque Ocean Drive.  Your friendly captain knows the history of the stunning sights you’ll sail past and will offer light, informative commentary.  Take the wheel and experience the thrill of sailing, receive casual sailing instruction, or sit back and relax.

What to Bring:

We have an Igloo cooler aboard and you’re welcome to bring your favorite, wine, beer, seltzers or champagne. Please note that no hard liquor is permitted on the private sailing charter. If you’d like light snacks, we suggest you stop at a local market and pick up food on your own. Try Newport Wine Cellar & Gourmet, Drift Cafe or Maho Poke all of which are close to Bowen’s Wharf.

Boarding Restrictions

Note: Boarding and disembarking Starlight is done by taking 2-3 steps up and down a sturdy ladder, permanently attached to a seawall.  Guests need to be able to lift their legs about 16-20″ over the boat’s lifelines and hold on to the ladder to get on and off the boat.

If you have balance or mobility issues, we recommend you consider a sail on Aquidneck which is our most stable vessel with standard stair and handrail boarding.

Charter Durations

Each sail is 2 hours.  Almost all guests find a two-hour sail that allows them to cover a lot of ground, relax and experience the joy of sailing. 

Availability & Booking

This sail is offered 7 days a week during our peak season. Weekend and select weekdays are offered during our shoulder season.  To view our up-to-date availability or book a charter on Starlight, you may Book Online at any time.

Should Starlight be sold out, consider a private charter on Sightsailer.  Sightsailer is larger and can sail with up to 13 guests, however, we do many charters on her with just 2-6 guests.  More info on Sightsailer can be found here.

Newport Kat LLC is our private sailing charter based out of Newport RI . We’re a husband and wife team, and really enjoy sharing our love of sailing with our guests. Our boat, AlyKat, is a 41-foot  catamaran  sailboat that can accommodate up to 6 people  for a day sail. One full-sized guest cabin can accommodate up to 2 guests for multiple-day and overnight sails.

Whether you want to explore destinations away from Newport, or you want to keep Newport as your vacation base, we can customize all trips to suit your needs and destinations wishes. If you want to learn how to sail a catamaran or learn general seamanship I will tailor the sail to be a great learning experience.

  CATERING

Charter payments.

For your private boat charter a 50% deposit is required upon signing our contract. Final payment is due 10 business days prior to the event.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy: For your private boat charter the total charter amount returned if cancelled more than 15 days in advance. Owner will refund 75% of the total charter amount if cancelled 14 days in advance of the charter date (half the deposit is returned). Owner will refund 50% of the total charter amount if cancelled between14 and 5 days in advance of the charter date (deposit is forfeited). Cancellations due to weather are made only by the captain. This decision can be made up until one hour before departure. A full refund or the option to reschedule without penalty is available if the Captain cancels due to weather. If the Charterer wishes to reschedule for any reason with at least a 5 days notice, a 25% rescheduling fee will be applied. If the Charterer wishes to reschedule due to weather predictions or for any reason without the Captain’s accord within 5 days of the event, a 50% rescheduling fee is applied.

We are located off of America’s Cup Avenue in front of the “Landing Restaurant” at 23 Bowens Wharf in Newport Rhode Island 02840.

Parking Information

Metered parking is limited, and traffic can get very congested in the area, plan at least 30 minutes for parking. There are also several pay lots available, and the Gateway Parking Lot, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the boat.
