Naomi and Mark’s cocktail style Manly Yacht Club Wedding
It was an absolutely glorious warm May afternoon for this Manly Yacht Club Wedding. The sun set perfectly over the water while the guests enjoyed their drinks and canapes. It was really picture perfect! Naomi and Mark decided to have a cocktail wedding on the balcony. They wanted everyone to feel relaxed and enjoy themselves. As you can see from the photos below, they certainly did!
Despite it being cocktail style, the wedding was definitely family-oriented. Their almost 3-year-old twin girls took centre stage during the ceremony. They walked down the aisle together as a family and the girls stayed close while vows were being exchanged. It was really sweet and they certainly kept the guests entertained!
Because Naomi and Mark wanted to focus on a relaxed atmosphere for their wedding they chose to spend only 10-15 minutes away from their guests for photos. If you’re not too scared of the camera then you don’t need a huge amount of time to get a handful of lovely portraits. My aim is to help you feel comfortable so we can capture these portraits as quickly as possible so you can head back to your guests!
Manly Yacht Club Wedding – All the Details
Bride’s dress: Abbey Bridal / Bride’s shoes: Filippo Raphael / Flowers: Cloud 9 Events / Hair and Make-up Artist: Deanne Dority / Rings: GS Diamonds / Celebrant: Keri Alexander / Venue: Manly Yacht Club / Music: Northern Beaches DJ / Groom’s suit: MJ Bale / Groom’s shoes: Aquila / Invitation: Vistaprint / Catering: Corella Catering / Venue Styling: Cloud 9 Events
Naomi and Mark chose to have their day covered for four hours which included a little of the girls getting ready, the ceremony, congrats, a big group photo and a few family photos, some portraits away from the guests and then lots of mingling afterwards. We also snuck in a lovely sunset photo just before I left! It was important for Naomi and Mark to have their little family captured so they took me up on my recommendation to have an assistant help with the girls and capture additional moments.

Fairytale Wedding in Russia
Photo by Aleksandr Neplokhov on Pexels
How are weddings celebrated in Russia?
- Ransoms: This tradition comes from the south of Russia. The bride is kidnapped by friends and on the morning of the wedding the groom must try to win her back. Generally, this is done by bribery but sometimes dancing or even drinking contests are held.
- Trickery: When the hopeful groom comes round in the morning to collect his bride, some devious parents-in-law present him with another woman dressed in a wedding gown and veil or, if they’re feeling especially mean, they might even dress-up a man!
- “Gorka!”: This one word can be heard at every single Russian wedding. It means bitter and guests chant this at the after-party so as to implore the new couple to kiss earnestly and therefore bring sweetness where once there was bitterness.
- Predictions: After the wedding ceremony, Russians have fun by trying to predict what gender the couple’s first baby will be. Before this used to be done by bits of paper, but now the predictions are often made by text!
Rossiya—that word alone elicits images of opulent churches, resplendent palaces and breathtaking cathedrals. In summer, equally stunning gardens form blooming borders to Russia’s countless palaces and the soft trickling of fountains, tucked away in shady corners, set the pace to the lovely and long days during white nights. And, in the seemingly endless winter, the sparkling white of snow softens the edges of Russia’s formal landscapes; making for a veritable winter wonderland. A more magical setting to say “I do” couldn’t have been dreamt up. Russia is the place where fairytales really can come true.
St Petersburg
A historic city need not be very old. Such is the case with St Petersburg. The city of dreams or, more specifically, of Peter the Great’s dreams has only been around for a little over three centuries, yet its streets are as rich in stories as the ancient cities of the Golden Ring. As the seat of the Romanov family, the city’s grand squares have seen an endless stream of royal wedding carriages roll through them. Though royal weddings are no longer, partners can still declare their love for one another in much the same way as the tsareviches and tsarinas did. A visit to St. Petersburg is still perfect for a wedding. At all the palaces and manors listed below weddings of all shapes and sizes can be effortlessly organized.
Catherine Palace
Photo by Dan Tuykavin on Unsplash
The baby blue façade, edged with touches of white and gold, of Tsarina Elizabeth’s beloved summer retreat makes for an ever so romantic backdrop. Its acres of elegantly structured gardens and wide, open vistas are reminiscent of Versailles. Though outdoor weddings are all the rage, it would be a mistake not to take advantage of the exquisite rooms within the palace when planning a wedding. Many of the lavish halls within the palace were designed by one of the greatest architects of all time, Rastrelli and the Amber room is considered to be one of the most beautiful rooms ever created.
For those wanting a more low-key, natural wedding, the estate where Catherine Palace is based, Tsarskoye Selo, has a few smaller palaces and pavilions on the grounds. The bright and airy halls of the Cameron Gallery, for example, with French doors opening up onto a lovely terrace and a grand marble staircase make for a simple yet classy backdrop for a wedding ceremony. While the intimate pavilion on the island, set in a forest of trees, has interiors that are almost splendid as the Catherine palace.

Yelagin Palace
In the very heart of St Petersburg lies an island full of rolling meadows, flower beds and oaks. Apart from being the city’s most treasured weekend spot, it’s also one of the most popular wedding venues. Though the charming Yelagin palace is out of the reach of most Russian couples, brides and their grooms often come after the nuptials to release balloons and pose on bridges arching over the canals.

Ethnography Museum
Yes, in Russia it’s even possible to get married in a museum! For a wedding that will have a lasting impression on your guests, the majestic Marble Hall of the Ethnographic museum is sure to take everyone’s breath away. Just imagine waltzing past the rows of 24 ton rose-colored columns with a vast crystal ceiling above and a sprawling marble floor below; it’s the stuff dreams are made of.
St.Petersburg, Inzhenernaya str., 4 T: +7(812)570 5768
Marble Palace
Due to their historical significance, some of St Petersburg’s palaces can’t be rented out in their entirety; however, the Marble Palace is an exception. Built for Catherine the Great’s lover, Count Orlov, the palace was made to be as rich and lavish as possible. With three-tiered chandeliers and mirrored ballrooms, all the ingredients for a royal wedding are to be found within this rather imposing building.
St.Petersburg, Millionnaya st., 5/1 T: +7(812)595 4240
Yusupov Palace
So affluent were the Yusupov family, that they were said to have more riches than the Tsar. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that their family seat in St Petersburg, the Yusupov Palace , is perhaps one of the most lavish buildings in the city. Despite its beauty, the mansion isn’t as popular with couples as other palaces. Perhaps the fact that Rasputin was murdered in the basement puts people off…
St.Petersburg, Naberezhnaya Reki Moyki, 94 T: +7(812)314 9892
In the heart of Russia, the country’s glitziest and most glamorous shindigs are held. Helipads, floating stages and musical fountains are commonplace at wedding venues. Any desire, no matter how fanciful or flamboyant, can be fulfilled: the question is not ‘how?’ but rather how much one is willing to spend.
Royal Yacht Club
Only a few minutes’ drive from the city center lies one of the most glamorous wedding spots in Russia. With a Michelin-level restaurant (which can accommodate 500 guests), chic terraces, floating stages and faultless service; it’s no wonder so many celebrities have chosen to say ‘I do’ here. Naturally, plenty of fun can be had with the many gorgeous boats at the yacht club (imagine the entrance you could make, arriving by speed boat!).

Four Seasons Hotel Moscow
The most iconic hotel in Moscow is undoubtedly the Four Seasons. Looking directly over the Red Square, it’s as central as you can get and, despite its soviet-esque exterior, it is in reality as modern as it gets, having been opened in 2014. Smoke machines, floating bouquets and ice sculptures, have all been used to make the most memorable weddings. For the wedding of your wildest dreams, trust the team at the Four Seasons to make it all come true.

Tsaritsyno Estate
One of Catherine the Great’s many ambitions was to build an Imperial estate for herself in the south of Moscow. Unfortunately, she died before she could see the surreal beauty of her pet project. Nestled within its picturesque, 405 hectares are countless greenhouses, pavilions, palaces and more that date back to the 18th century. Though the whole estate cannot be rented out, the main manor house can be fully disposed for a wedding ceremony and after-party. In fine weather, newlyweds have the option of exploring the estate on horseback or by boat and giant outdoor tents can be set up on the lawns.

Live updates: Seven dead in 56m superyacht Bayesian sinking tragedySeven people have died in the Bayesian sinking disaster. These include the six missing people who were inside the yacht when it sank, as well as a seventh person who was located shortly after the disaster. The seventh person is understood to be the yacht's chef, Recaldo Thomas. The other six are: - British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, once dubbed 'Britain's Bill Gates'
- Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah
- Morgan Stanley's chairman, Jonathan Bloomer
- Judy Bloomer, wife of Morgan Stanley chairman
- Chris Morvillo, a lawyer working for London-based law firm Clifford Chance
- Neda Morvillo, an American jewellery designer and Chris' wife
It is understood that the yacht was being used to celebrate Lynch's recent victory in a 13-year £8 billion fraud acquittal. No one remembers the mast snapping before 56m superyacht Bayesian sunk, says crewNo one recalls seeing the mast snap on board the 56-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht Bayesian which sank off the Italian island of Sicily on 19 August. The eyewitness account of a crewmember on board the vessel, which was obtained by BOAT International , said that the boat was struck by a freak weather event which led to the yacht heeling at around 20 degrees to starboard. As crewmembers were securing items, the heeling angle began to increase rapidly until the yacht started taking on water and sank rapidly. The crewmembers who were up on deck were able to evacuate the yacht with minor injuries. The yacht is understood to have sunk in just twelve minutes, and it is believed that a "major ingress" of water from the top down would have caused the sinking, according to a captain who wishes to remain anonymous. This is based on the fact that no breaches have been reported in the yacht's hull, and the fact that the yacht should have been able to remain afloat with two flooded compartments. "Very difficult to understand what could have overwhelmed a vessel of that size" says captain of sistershipThe captain of the sistership to the sunken 56-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht Bayesian has said it is "very difficult to understand what could have overwhelmed a vessel of that size" and called the 56-metre Perini Navi series "bulletproof". David Hutchinson, captain of Rosehearty , said he had taken the yacht around the world multiple times and he had "total faith in the boat". "We've been to Antarctica and Chile, and we've had her in 70 knots of wind," he says, and the vessel had never put them in a situation that felt unmanageable. However, Hutchinson noted there were differences between Bayesian and Rosehearty ; notably, Bayesian's 74-metre mast, which would have been heavier and added increased windage. The yacht's layout was also different, with guest accommodation on Bayesian located further forward. Live updates- During a news conference on Saturday morning (24 August), prosecutors confirmed they are in the early stages of investigating a "crime hypothesis" of culpable shipwreck and manslaughter. Authorities also said the yacht likely sunk because of a downburst (powerful wind that descends from a thunderstorm), rather than a waterspout.
- A search and rescue for six missing people has concluded. The final missing person is understood to be Hannah Lynch.
- According to Reuters, six bodies have now been found in the sunken yacht. These include Mike Lynch, a British technology entrepreneur who co-founded Autonomy Corporation and founded Invoke Capital, although Italian authorities have not confirmed this.
- One person was found immediately after the yacht sunk, and this is understood to be the yacht's chef.
- Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, and a one-year-old are among the fifteen people rescued along with Bayesian' s captain, James Cutfield.
- Another sailing vessel in the area, the 42-metre Sir Robert Baden Powell , stepped in to offer assistance in the initial rescue.
- Divers have been able to reach Bayesian' s sunken hull, which lies at 45 metres of depth about half a mile from the coast. The yacht had the largest aluminium masts of any sailing yacht on the water.
- Eyewitnesses in the area reported "hurricane" conditions off the coast but local weather websites did not indicate any severe squall, which suggests that the weather event was not forecast.
- At around 5am local time on 19 August, Bayesian was hit by bad weather and sunk. The sailing yacht was anchored or idle at the time of the incident.
Built in Italy by renowned builder Perini Navi and delivered in 2008, the yacht's naval architecture was developed by Ron Holland Design while the interior design is by Rémi Tessier . She was formerly known as Salute and was last refitted in 2016. She was listed for sale earlier this year, according to BOATPro . The yacht had accommodation for nine guests and 12 crew. BOAT International will update the story as it develops. The Sea Demonstrates Again It Doesn't Care - Yacht BayesianBillionaire or humble steward, old or young, ragged refugee skiff or luxury superyacht, the sea again demonstrates she doesn’t care & takes them all the same. “The sea is selective, slow at recognition of effort and aptitude, but fast in sinking the unfit.” This articles does a good job of describing how the mast probably played a big part in the sinking & discusses the weather conditions. Thanks, don’t usually look at the Torygraph, and its paywalled. But as I said (and being familiar with Perinis) that would be my expectation It looks like you are probably correct. A 20+ story mast might not have been the best idea? But the Torygraph isn’t charging me, probably because of my location & ip address. Here’s the image. I’ve read erratic & sometimes conflicting remarks about being knocked flat, righting, followed by rig folding. Wrong place, wrong time. Who needs a rig bigger than Panamax (60m)? All other big rigs (eg Mirabella V) are carbon. was reading about this in the financial times Subscribe to read and aside from the maritime aspect of this accident i found this piece of the article interesting… “The yacht incident came on the same day as the death was confirmed of Lynch’s co-defendant in the US fraud case, Stephen Chamberlain, who was hit by a car in Cambridgeshire.” Hold on to our tin-foil hats…Conspiracy theories are guaranteed. Ken Lay was killed by a stationary tree weeks before his appointment with the judge overseeing his retirement home plans at Club Fed for millionaires. Maybe Neptune & the Tree God are working together against those so rich they slip through the cracks. The ‘Baynesian’ anchored off Porticello at around 20::00 UTC the evening before the disaster. Another sail yacht, ‘Sir Robert Baden Powell‘, an old classic one (1958, two masts, about 40 meters) was at anchor nearby to NW. Two men from this yacht came over in a small craft, when the ‘Baynesian’ disappeared, to save the swimming people. The wind, after midnight until the disaster, was WNW 10/15 knots at large, at the protected anchorage 2/3 knots. However, there was this singular villain waterspout inside, probably invisible during the night. The water temperature was about 30°C, the air temp at about 26°C (maybe this influences the strength of the waterspout). I have seen many waterspouts, but never what they could do on boats or ships. After drifting away: The first direction arrow is at 01:59 UTC, speed 1.3kn The second arrow is at 02:03, speed 2.6kn The last AIS signal is at 02:05, speed 2.6kn A few from that company have passed away since the court case. Calm down everyone. The cause has been found. You knew it, didn’t you? (Copied from The Telegraph) Climate change contributed to the weather that caused Bayesian to sink, claims expertProf Mercalli, one of Italy’s leading climate experts, said climate change had contributed to the weather phenomenon that caused the boat to sink. He said: “The sea surface temperature around Sicily was about 30 degrees, which is almost three degrees higher than normal. That creates a huge source of energy that contributes to these storms. “We can’t say this is all due to climate change, but we can say it has an amplifying effect.” Prof Mercalli said the sinking of Mike Lynch’s luxury yacht was similar to the boating tragedy in which four people were killed on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy in May 2023. Leading climate expert says crew should have paid more attention to weather warningsLuca Mercalli, one of Italy’s leading climate experts and president of the Italian Meteorological Society, said the crew of the Bayesian should have paid more attention to the weather warnings issued by Italian authorities before the tragedy occurred. While noting the tornado that occurred off Sicily’s coast was not predictable, Professor Mercalli told The Telegraph the authorities had issued a “yellow” then a moderate weather alert and the crew should have been more vigilant of the changing weather conditions despite the darkness. Prof Mercalli said: “I don’t know if there was anyone on board consulting the radar. “Let’s say that if I had been on board, at the first sign of a thunderstorm I would have woken up all the occupants and been ready and alert with life jackets on until the storm was over.” He said weather radar made it possible to estimate within 15 to 30 minutes the arrival of an intense thunderstorm, even though it is impossible to know if the wind intensity will reach dangerous levels. Note: Please advise in replies the number of times you have mustered the entire crew and passengers with lifejackets on at the first sign of a thunderstorm. Surely everybody just does that as standard procedure? [Comment may not make complete sense to non-SUNY Maritime types] I have always thought “mugs” should be made to memorize that quote (from an alumni and superintendent of the school ) and not the so-called “sallyport saying.” (I don’t recall the quote exactly, it’s from Stonewall Jackson and the gist is that junior officers must blindly obey superiors without question). We did…at least 20 years ago. I don’t know what they learn now, but I agree with you. I heard they tried doing away with that, as it’s a quote from a Confederate General. This was back during the hectic Summer of ‘20 when they also said the Fort was racist because of its namesake being a slaveowner. Fort Schuyler is still Fort Schuyler, so I’d have to imagine the MUGS still learn/memorize the Sallyport Saying, among others. I’d do away with it only because it’s not appropriate. I doubt it’s being used in any BRM courses… Family boat and the sleeping owner is your boss…tough decision Pretty sure the radar would be left on and maybe on the captains tv in his cabin? Couldnt know about the wind till it hit you especially if there was no rain in the wind blast so no movement on the radar to see Statements made by experts should be evaluated depending upon whether they are speaking within or outside of their area of expertise With regards to vessel operations the professor was outside his area of expertise.
