Yacht charter Dubrovnik
Yacht charter Dubrovnik takes you to the south of Croatia to one of the most beautiful cities in the entire Mediterranean. Due to its beauty Dubrovnik is also called "Pearl of the Adriatic" or "Croatian Athens". Dubrovnik is considered a center of tourism not least because of the sunshine duration of over 2,500 hours per year. Since 1997, the old town, which is surrounded by a 1,940 meter long and up to six meter wide city wall, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Besides many sights, a large number of sports facilities, restaurants and taverns are waiting for your visit in the city.
Six kilometers from the old town and only 27 kilometers from the airport is the Dubrovnik Marina. Here you can start your South Dalmatia cruise in a very well-maintained complex, which houses a small hotel in an old summer residence of the patricians. Destinations to the north are the green islands of Korčula, the Elaphite archipelago and Mljet. If the charter company allows it, the marina is also an excellent starting point for a yacht charter vacation along the coast of Montenegro .
The Elaphite Archipelago - deserted islands and extensive hikes
Just a bit north of the city lies the Elaphites archipelago with its 13 islands, of which only 3 are inhabited. They are also called the "front garden of Dubrovnik", they are separated from the mainland in front of the city only by the Koločeper channel. The most famous island of the Elaphites is Koločep. The forested island, on which no cars drive, is ideal for long walks. The paths are well developed and the forest provides sufficient shade on summer days. The routes along the coast allow again and again unique views of the surrounding turquoise sea and also from the land many of the bays are accessible for swimming. In the very south of the island at Cape Bezdan you can see the southern Dalmatian coast with the Lapad peninsula, the Snježnica mountains, as well as the mountains of Montenegro.
Worth a visit, but only accessible from the water, is the Blue Grotto in the southwest of the island, also on Cape Bezdan. You can swim into the cave through a shallow entrance. When the sun shines in the afternoon, the water inside the grotto glows a brilliant blue, even bluer than the surrounding sea. Also divers have a lot to discover here, so in front of the cape in 16m depth lies the shipwreck of a two-master, which can be visited. The next island of the archipelago, Lopud, also offers beautiful hours to linger. In the north and south of the island there are two sandy beaches, the southern one has simple sanitary facilities, but is otherwise a little less developed than the northern beach, which is more touristy.
Mljet, the greenest island of Croatia
The island of Mljet is believed by its inhabitants to be the island of Ogygia from Homer's Illiad, where Odysseus washed up after his shipwreck and is said to have lived for several years with the sea nymph Calypso. And it is not the worst destination for a shipwreck, because this evergreen island is a true natural paradise. To reach it, one passes a small gap between the forested and uninhabited islands of Olipa and Jakljan.
The northwest of the island forms a national park, which can be reached approximately via the bay near Pomena. The park and the hiking trails are widely laid out, so that one can enjoy the tranquility of nature even when there are large crowds of visitors. There is also the possibility to rent bicycles and explore the rich flora and fauna with more than 100 bird species and over 600 plant species.
The two saltwater lakes in the park are also special. Here you can enjoy the warm water swimming or rent a canoe and paddle across the lake. For example, to the small island in the big lake, where a former Benedictine monastery is located. Today you can enjoy a meal here in the restaurant and café. The beaches in the many small bays of the island also offer bathing fun. For families, for example, the sandy beach of Saplunara, where the shore slopes gently with crystal clear water. For the physical well-being is provided on the island, numerous restaurants offer fresh fish, seafood, but also vegetarian delicacies of the region.
Korčula - already popular with people in prehistoric times
The island of Korčula , located just under 25 nautical miles northwest of Mljet in the Croatian Adriatic, is another worthwhile and easily accessible destination. The town of the same name, located in the east of the island, is worth a trip not only for those interested in history. Particularly worth seeing is the old town on a small spur with buildings from the 14th century. Well-developed hiking and biking trails lead across the island. Set out and discover secluded bays and stroll through overgrown vineyards.
To the west lies the largest settlement on the island, Vela Luka. Here it's worth a trip to the cultural center to view prehistoric finds from the nearby Vela Spilja cave. It can also be easily reached on foot from the town along a hiking trail. Roman finds from the area and modern art by local artists can also be seen here. Of course the bathing pleasure is not neglected here either, so there are numerous bays and beaches along the coastline of the island, for example the sandy beach Lumbarda in the very southeast of the island or the many beaches of the bay of Brna in the east.
