The widow of a sailor killed off the coast of Fiji on a New Zealand-flagged yacht says she can’t wait for his body to return home.

Robyn Nothling’s husband, 73-year-old Clive Nothling of Russell, was knocked unconscious when the boom of his boat, the Second Life, hit him late Sunday evening.

Nothling logged his journey, revealing he missed his wife’s eightieth birthday while he was away.

Clive Nothling of Kerikeri on board his yacht Second Life in Fiji in September 2023. Nothling died when struck by a section of the yacht's mast off the coast of Fiji.

“Sorry I missed it but will make it up to her,” his note read.

He posted photographs of himself and his crewmates fishing, swimming, and sailing next to dolphins. His wife spent some time with him on the trip but returned to New Zealand early.

“[It] was great having her with me. [I] love her to bits.”

Crewmate Kevin Harper was also injured. Harper was sailing when the mast’s boom hit the pair.

Nothling was knocked unconscious about 24 hours before help arrived, by which time he was already dead, his widow said.

The cruise ship Pacific Explorer diverted course to respond to the Second Life’s mayday call about 1am on Monday.

The Pacific Explorer winched one person to safety and the Republic of Fiji Navy ship Saveneca saved the other survivor.

Nothling’s widow said, “I’m heartbroken, absolutely heartbroken. I don’t know how I’m even talking right now.”

“He was due home from Fiji in four days when he died. We couldn’t wait to see each other.

“He was a very special, strong man. He was known for being a very safe and competent sailor. This was a freak accident,” she said.

Nothling, born in South Africa and a keen sailor most of his life, had been in Fiji about four months before he died. He worked in the tech industry for several years.

“In his 30s, he built a boat in [his] backyard in Wellington and sailed around the world for eight years,” his widow said.

“I sailed with him for 30 years on our boat - I never ever felt afraid. He never ever took risks.

“We were together [those] 30 years. We were very much in love with each other and we had lovely plans.”

She believed the tragedy unfolded after the craft’s autopilot went awry.

Speaking from their home in Russell, she said details were still “sketchy” and hadn’t been confirmed.

“What happened was; the boom came across and hit Kevin first and then Clive, and he was unconscious for over 24 hours or more before they got him out.”

Harper and a third crew member, whom Nothling’s widow only knew as Sean, were taken to Fiji, along with Nothling’s body. Consular services were notified.

Second Life’s crew were offloaded about 12 hours after they sent a mayday call.

Due to rough weather, the cruise ship was unable to launch small tenders.

The Pacific Explorer ship remained at a safe distance and waited for the Fijian navy to conduct a recovery operation for the sailing ship.

RFNS patrol boat Savenaca intercepted the immobilised yacht after midday.

Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN) sailors were seen boarding the 12-metre yacht via dirigible and removing bags from the craft.

Maritime New Zealand’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCCNZ) confirmed two survivors were recovered from the vessel, while “sadly one person has died as a result of an incident involving a yacht off Fiji [Monday] evening”.

“This was a challenging search and rescue operation in tough conditions,” a spokesperson for RCCNZ said.

“Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre wants to acknowledge the work of the Rescue Coordination Centre, Fiji in leading coordination of the rescue efforts.”

A second response vessel in the area, The Beast, a privately-owned vessel belonging to Sir Michael Hill, also diverted to assist shortly after midday.

Cruise passengers reported that the Pacific Explorer continued on its course to Fiji at around 2pm local time.

A spokeswoman for Carnival Australia, the parent company of cruise operator P&O, said the Pacific Explorer had been first to respond to a call for help via the New Zealand Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our crew, led by Captain Alan Nixon, for their immense efforts in very poor conditions, as well as our guests onboard for their understanding,” they said.

Second Life was last seen in Nadi Bay on Thursday, September 21. Nothling’s widow understood the Republic of Fiji Navy has since scuttled the craft.

Nothling was also survived by his son Zak Nothling, whom he had with his ex-wife Lynn Nothling. He had previously been a member of the Kerikeri Cruising Club.

One dead as cruise ship comes to aid of NZ yacht in distress

The crew of a New Zealand-flagged yacht has been offloaded, 12 hours after sending a mayday signal in the waters south of Fiji.

The small yacht was first intercepted by P&O cruise ship the Pacific Explorer at 1am this morning.

The 2000-passenger pleasure cruiser was repositioning from Auckland to Suva in the Fijian islands when it diverted to the distress signal.

The New Zealand-flagged sailing vessel Second Life appeared to have a broken sail and the crew required medical assistance.

One crew member was winched aboard the cruise ship, while two others remained onboard, unable to be moved.

Due to rough weather, the cruise ship was unable to launch small tenders, the Pacific Explorer ship remaining at a safe distance and waiting for the Fijian navy to conduct a recovery operation for the sailing ship.

RFNS patrol boat Savenaca intercepted the immobilised yacht after midday. Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN) sailors could be seen boarding the 12-metre yacht via dirigible and removing bags from the craft.

Maritime New Zealand’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCCNZ) confirmed that two survivors were recovered from the vessel, while “sadly one person has died as a result of an incident involving a yacht off Fiji yesterday evening”.

RFN picked up the remaining survivor this afternoon, in addition to the crewmember who was winched onto the Pacific Explorer.

“This was a challenging search and rescue operation in tough conditions,” said a spokesperson for RCCNZ. “Maritime NZ’s Rescue Coordination Centre wants to acknowledge the work of the Rescue Coordination Centre, Fiji in leading coordination of the rescue efforts.”

Both the survivors are being taken to Fiji, as is the body of the deceased. New Zealand Police and consular services have been notified.

Cruise passengers reported that the Pacific Explorer continued on its course to Fiji at around 2pm local time.

A second response vessel in the area, The Beast, a privately-owned vessel belonging to Sir Michael Hill, also diverted to assist shortly after midday.

A spokeswoman for Carnival Australia, the parent company of cruise operator P&O, said the Pacific Explorer had been first to respond to a call for assistance via the New Zealand Rescue Co-ordination Centre.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our crew, led by Captain Alan Nixon, for their immense efforts in very poor conditions, as well as our guests onboard for their understanding,” they said.

Owing to the poor conditions, the rescue of remaining crew by the cruise line was not possible, but the Pacific Explorer was reportedly in touch with those aboard the Second Life throughout the evening.

“Guests will be kept up to date with any necessary itinerary adjustments as Pacific Explorer renders assistance to those in distress.”

The New Zealand Rescue Co-ordination Centre said that one of the yacht crew was now onboard the Pacific Explorer receiving medical assistance.

“Due to conditions and the comparative size of the Pacific Explorer, assisting the remaining people onboard the yacht isn’t possible.”

Passenger Ali Gilchrist Gilchrist told the  Herald  that the cruise ship had now left the scene and no other crew were taken aboard the ship.

“RCC NZ requested we monitor the yacht from a distance, as it is unsafe for us to get the [remaining crew] off the yacht in their condition,” she said.

The RFN released the cruise ship from observation duties around 4pm and it was now headed towards Port Denarau.

Cruise passenger John McFarlane photographed a rescue and recovery being conducted via navy launch.

“The launch from the Fijian warship went back across, we’re not yet clear on the offloaded passengers’ condition, however,” he said.

The Pacific Explorer is currently on an eight-day itinerary from Auckland with 2000 guests, mostly New Zealanders and Australians.

She was due to arrive in Suva, Fiji on Monday morning.

The 12-metre yacht, which bears the lettering Second Life on its hull, is a New Zealand-flagged ship, last seen in Nadi Bay, Fiji on September 21.

One dead, sailor rescued by cruise ship from stricken Fiji yacht

O ne person has died during an incident involving a New Zealand-flagged yacht off Fiji, says Maritime New Zealand’s Rescue Coordination Centre.

There were three people on-board when the vessel encountered difficulty.

One survivor was picked up by the Fijian Navy vessel Savenaca this afternoon, while the other was earlier transferred to the cruise ship, Pacific Explorer where they received medical treatment.

CRUISE SHIP RESCUES YACHT

Three vessels, including a P&O cruise ship, came to aid a yacht that found itself in distress off the coast of Fiji. One of the passengers was already deceased, while the other two needed medical attention.

Cruise Ship Rescues Yacht

Twelve hours after the distress call, the cruise ship P&O Pacific Explorer was the first to arrive on the scene at 1 a.m. on September 25. The yacht, Second Life, was found with a broken mast amid challenging weather conditions.

Though the Explorer managed to transfer one of the yacht’s crew onboard, the other passenger couldn’t be moved until hours later. “Due to conditions and the comparative size of the Pacific Explorer, assisting the remaining people onboard the yacht isn’t possible,” passenger Ali Christ told the New Zealand Herald .

REPUBLIC OF FIJI NAVY RESCUE

Two other vessels joined the recovery operation: the Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN) patrol boat Savenaca and the Beast, a private vessel owned by Sir Michael Hill. By the same day afternoon, the patrol boat had boarded the 12-meter yacht and picked up the remaining survivor.

At around 4 p.m., the cruise ship with 2,000 passengers onboard was given the green light to proceed to Suva, Fiji, its original destination.

Spanning several hours, the rescue was described as a difficult operation. “RFNS Savenaca finally arrived this morning carrying one survivor and the remains of the sailor that tragically lost his life at sea. It has been a challenging rescue given the conditions and weather at sea at the time and it was rather unfortunate that a life was lost,” read the Republic of Fiji Navy’s post on Facebook .

The two survivors, including the deceased passenger, have been taken to Fiji while consular services and the New Zealand Police have been alerted.

Saltwater Recruitment

Before stepping foot on a Superyacht you first need the STCW or STCW-95 (Standards of Training and Certification of Watchkeepers). An STCW is a fun seven day course which is compulsory for anyone who wishes to begin an illustrious career working on any of the world’s oceans. The course covers five areas: Fire prevention and firefighting, personal safety and social responsibilities, personal survival techniques, proficiency in security awareness and elementary first aid. Once completed you will have gained the main qualification required to join the industry of Superyachting.

The STCW course itself can be done in three different locations around New Zealand; Auckland, Tauranga and Nelson. Follow one of the links below to register for the STCW best suited to your location:

  • Auckland: Manukau Institute of Technology
  • Tauranga: Toi-Ohomai Institute of Technology
  • Nelson: Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology
  • Whangarei: Training 4 safety

An ENG-1 Medical is a relatively basic medical test which is specifically designed for seafarers. This test ensures all seagoing personnel or crew are fit and healthy for sea. The test itself takes about an hour to complete with a specially qualified doctor and covers things such as hearing, vision, blood pressure, and overall physical condition ensuring you are in a good physical condition. After all, you wouldn’t want to be stuck in the Atlantic ocean have not seen land for days feeling sick as a dog (kiwi slang).

There is only one place in New Zealand which does the ENG-1 Medical, Dr Richard Bratt in Parnell, Auckland.

Visit Parnell Medical’s website to book your appointment today.

Once you have completed your STCW, ENG-1 and CV, you are now ready to book yourself overseas!

Your destination will likely be, Antibes in France, Palma in Spain or Fort Lauderdale in Florida, these are the three major superyacht hubs of the world. This is where you will find hundreds of yachts, crew, shore-based services and a great night life to mix and mingle looking to secure your first job onboard a superyacht.

You will need to time your travel to one of these selected destinations which coincides with the season; Mediterranean season is May to August, from here the yachts will cross the Atlantic Ocean into Fort Lauderdale/Caribbean for the Caribbean season which is December to March.

Once a season ends it’s likely some of the crew will leave their current roles, opening up various positions for you or what you may be qualified for. This is why you need to be in the right place at the right time to get that job and have all your qualifications in check.

Do you have any pre-existing medical conditions? —Please choose an option— Yes No

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, please list them in the box below

** All prices are subject to change until paid in full and prices are all subject to availability. ** Prices are for cash/bank transfer, there will be a 2.5% surcharge for Visa/Mastercard and 3% surcharge for Amex/Diners ** Your names on the electronic ticket must be exactly as your passport and you must have at least 6 months validity on your passport upon your return into New Zealand.

As part of your brand new superyacht contract, generally speaking, you will have all of your health insurance and travel paid for, and all medical expenses covered. But this only kicks in once you step foot onto your new yacht.

This is why it is very important to get yourself some travel insurance, to cover yourself if you do happen to encounter some health or travel implications en route which can amount to thousands of dollars, potentially leaving you out of pocket and squashing your superyacht dreams.

Do not fret, our partner Fuzion Travel have got you covered.

Once you’ve landed you can now get excited about checking into a crew house. A crew house is similar to a backpackers but for yacht crew, both aspiring and seasoned. They are places where you can relax, meet people, learn a lot about the industry, be a tourist, head to a local bar or two, do some networking, and potentially land your first gig.

In any of the three main Superyacht hubs; Antibes (French Riviera), Palma (Mallorca, Spain) and Fort Lauderdale (South Florida, USA), the crew are spoilt for choice in regards to crew houses. Let us make it easy for you by providing the links to all of the crew houses and accommodation options available to you in the yachting destinations.

Before you jump on the big bird, we would suggest joining these main Facebook groups and Instagram pages from all around the globe. They are basically open forums where people discuss the full range of topics that we as yachties encounter on a day to day basis.

Although you may not be able to contribute too much, it is a good place to start doing some research about yacht lingo, different locations, the shore based industry, challenges which are faced and how they are overcome, and also to gives you an idea of what to expect when you arrive at one of these great destinations.

Our very own Kiwi and Aussie Yacht Club Facebook group is a great location where you can go to investigate topics and search for jobs more specific to Kiwis and Aussies. Happy Browsing!

What people don’t realise is that you don’t necessarily need a visa to travel to these places or to work on a yacht.

In every port or marina, there is an immigration office. Once you join a yacht, a local customs official will visit you on your new yacht and stamp your passport to say you have left that particular country and are now officially in international waters, but don’t worry, you are still allowed to go ashore, as it’s to show that you are employed on an ocean-going vessel. Once you leave your vessel to either go on a holiday or cease employment, local customs will visit you again to stamp your passport and officially put you back onto land.

  • Visa Type Select visa type Visas in Europe Visas in the USA and associated territories

As New Zealand passport holders we are allowed to travel to the Schengen Area, which is comprised of the 26 main European Union countries, except for the UK and Ireland, for three months in any given six month period without a visa, this is your window of opportunity to obtain your first yacht job. After three months though, you must leave the Schengen Area for three months or obtain a Schengen visa, otherwise you will become an overstayer, but hopefully, you won’t have to do either of them because you’ll be cruising the crystal clear waters of Mediterranean by then. Visit Safe Travel's website for more in-depth information on travel in and around the Schengen Area. If you have any further queries surrounding visas working on a yacht based in France, have a read over the basic information from the New Zealand Embassy's website.

Obtaining an ESTA which is what’s required if you want to have a holiday.

As New Zealand passport holders, we are not required to hold a visa to travel to the USA, but instead need an ESTA which allows us to stay in the USA for 90 days at a time, with no set time-frame in between visits, as long as customs officials don’t deem you to be trying to live in the USA. Visit ESTA's website for more in-depth information and ESTA applications.

Obtaining a B1/B2 visa which is what’s required if you want to travel to the USA either with a yacht or to join a yacht.

A B1/B2 visa means a New Zealand passport holder can travel to the USA for Business (B1) and/or tourism (B2) for up to six months. As yachties, these are the visas which are required. Obtaining a B1/B2 visa prior to arriving in the USA is generally done on your own but through the yacht, you are currently employed by, carried out at your local US Embassy at the time, generally somewhere in Europe. This is when you will provide proof of employment to a US official which says to him you are travelling to those areas for business. If you wish to travel to the USA to seek employment on a yacht without a B1/B2 visa, you will find it very difficult. If you wish to apply for a B1/B2 visa at a US Embassy and Consulate without employment it is possible, but it then comes down to the discretion of the individual US official during your interview. Visit Travel State Gov for more in-depth information and on B1/B2 applications.

What to do once you arrive

Once you have arrived at your local crew house, be it in Antibes, Palma or Fort Lauderdale, it can be very overwhelming. You have arrived in a brand new country, you are confronted with other aspiring crew members talking about a whole lot of stuff you don’t even understand, you lay eyes on your first ever Superyacht, and you just want to start working straight away, it’s fine we have all been there. Here at YONZ we understand this is a confusing time and want to help you ease through this period.

A job in yachting is secured in four main ways; Facebook, word of mouth/networking, agencies and dockwalking. It is very important as ‘Green Crew’ (newbies to the industry), that you cover off all of these:

  • Facebook – Make sure you follow the FB pages we have recommended, keep an eye out for the daily job listings, and apply for the ones which you think may suit you.
  • Word of Mouth/Networking – Once you have arrived and settled in, make lots of friends in your crew house, go to the yachtie bars and meet current captains and crew, and just basically be social around town. You never know who you are going to meet and where. But just remember to be presentable, professional, and respectful, people are watching.
  • Agencies – Be sure to register with the local agencies online, give them a follow up email, and go in person to meet them.
  • Dockwalking – This is where you walk along the docks where all of the yachts are parked up and hand out your CV to the crew on board on the chance they may be hiring a new deckie or steward/stewardess. Introduce yourself, tell them a small bit about yourself, if they want it, hand them your CV, and move on.

Please note, dockwalking for a non-US citizen is illegal in the US. It is deemed to be seeking work illegally, and if caught, you run the risk of being deported.

Daywork is a term used where you are employed by a yacht on a day-to-day basis to help getting larger jobs, or jobs which the current crew are unable to do completed. Daywork is obtained through any of the four above means. You are generally paid in cash on completion of the days work, and you will be paid anywhere from €100 – €150 or $100 – $150 US Dollars per day depending on your location.

Daywork is a great way to gain extremely valuable experience on board yachts before you are employed full time, as well as helping you out financially while you are staying in the crew house.

Also, make sure you put your daywork experience on your CV!!

Once you feel you are in the best position to start applying for your first position, register with our amazing friends at Saltwater Recruitment. Monique and the team specialise in Kiwi yacht crew and will do their best to link you up with a yacht and position that best suits you.

Fill out your details below, attach your CV and you’ll hear back from the Saltwater Recruitment team very soon.

PADI Openwater – Scuba Diving

You may or may not know this, but when you work on a superyacht, you are fortunate enough to travel to many tropical locations all around the world, it just so happens that a large majority of superyachts are well equipped for scuba diving. It would be a real shame if you were to visit these places but were not qualified to go scuba diving. A lot of positions require you to be qualified scuba diver so you can take guests on scuba adventures, and also to understand, maintain and repair scuba diving equipment which is why we highly recommend you get yourself scuba dive qualified.

There are several operators around New Zealand who run the PADI Open Water. Please explore the PADI Dive Shop Locator to find a location and course suitable for you.

It just so happens that superyachts hold on board a whole lot of smaller boats which are commonly known as ‘Tenders’. When you are employed as a Deckhand on a superyacht it is expected that you know and understands how to drive a tender. To prove to a potential employer you know how to drive one, it is highly recommended to obtain a Power Boat Level 2 Certification to put on your CV. The Power Boat Level 2 is a two day course designed to train you to drive a tender to the high standards expected from the superyacht industry.

Although you can do your Power Boat Level 2 courses in Antibes, Palma and Fort Lauderdale, it is much more convenient and affordable to do it in New Zealand.

The course can be done in five different locations around New Zealand. Please visit the links below to find the best RYA approved Power Boat Level 2 course best suited to you:

The second racing yacht belonging to U.S. America’s Cup challenger American Magic arrived in Auckland early Thursday aboard a giant Antonov cargo aircraft.

US team lands second America's Cup racing yacht in Auckland

  • Listen to this article

American Magic, backed by the New York Yacht Club, landed its first boat, named Defiant, in New Zealand in June and has been conducting sea trials since July.

The boat was built at Bristol, Rhode Island and was flown to New Zealand from via Chicago and Honolulu. The arrival of the 75-foot vessel puts American Magic on course to be the first challenger to launch a second generation of the planing mono-hulls in which the Cup will be contested.

The boats rise up out of the water on thin foils which produce minimal drag and allow them to reach high speeds.

British challenger Ineos Team UK is reportedly ready to fly its two boats to New Zealand, while a boat belonging to Italy’s Luna Rossa team is on a cargo ship heading to Auckland.

The U.S., British and Italian teams will compete in a challenger series in January and February for the right to take on defender Team New Zealand in the 36th America’s Cup match in March.

The America’s Cup has been contested since 1856 and is regarded as the oldest trophy in sports.

Yachting in New Zealand

boatlife

New Zealand is a small island country surrounded by the ocean, known for its hot sun, polar glaciers, and unique wildlife such as kiwis and penguins. It is a place that is both amazing and inaccessible for tourists from the northern hemisphere. With a lot of water around it, sailing has become a national hobby, just like in Australia. They love sailing yachts and motor yachts alike.

Yachting in New Zealand can be compared to Italian wine or French perfume. People come here to explore the ocean, and the city of Auckland considered the Mecca for yachtsmen, has hosted America’s Cup twice. There are many bays, marinas, and yacht clubs throughout the country.

New Zealand is also called Aotearoa, meaning “Land of the Long White Cloud” in the Maori language. It was founded in 1840, and the first settlers arrived about 1000 years ago. Some of the stones here are over 500 million years old, dating back to the time when, as legend has it, the hero-demigod Maui fished North Island out of the sea with his magic fishing hook.

The North Island is one of the world’s two best sailing destinations, welcoming visitors with windswept coves and bays, lush vegetation, and the main city of the country, Auckland. It is a thriving international business center and a fantastic tourist destination with much to see and do, high-end cuisine, and boutique shopping. The South Island has a wild and rugged coastline, and spectacular scenery, and is home to Queenstown, known as the extreme sports capital of the world.

The South Island is glaciers, snow-capped mountains stretching into the sea, and untouched coasts. It is almost a primeval region.

The country’s beauty is undeniable, from lush rainforests and warm golden beaches to spectacular lakes and mountains, moody fjords, and trendy cities. New Zealand has a population of just under four million and is about the size of Japan, but it is amazingly pristine for those looking to unwind and rejuvenate.

If you’ve watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you’re already familiar with New Zealand’s landscapes. The snow-covered peaks around Mount Cook, also called Aoraki, which means “Piercing the Clouds”, rise from the unusually blue glacial lakes. On the south coast, waves break against rocks, and picturesque cliffs rise, while stunning fjords promise extraordinary adventure for sailors and plenty of hiking opportunities.

The northern island is full of windy bays and bays with tiny volcanic islands located nearby. There is a lot of vegetation and wild places here, but this region is more developed and populated. Auckland, the capital of New Zealand, is located here and is an international business center.

World-class diving spots can be found north of the Bay of Islands where you can spot whales, sea devils, and many other types of fish. The Marlborough Sounds is another popular luxury yacht charter destination, with spectacular fjords, secluded bays, and the best Sauvignon Blanc vineyards. However, nothing compares to the accessibility and beauty of the scenery with Hauraki Bay, where you can sail between Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula, and the Great Barrier Island.

In New Zealand, you will find a temperate climate, equipped and wild embankments, but most importantly, a lot of unusual places that you will not see anywhere else in the world. You will be able to visit the most popular points among yachtsmen, enjoy the stunning natural scenery, and challenge yourself.

Yachting in New Zealand offers a range of exciting and luxurious experiences. If you’re planning a trip to New Zealand and want to explore the country’s stunning coastlines and picturesque islands, then a yacht charter is a perfect way to do it. Here is a suggested route for your New Zealand yacht adventure:

Day 1 – Auckland to Waiheke

On the first day of your trip, your luxury charter yacht will be waiting for you in Auckland. After exploring the city and its attractions, you will head to the island of Waiheke, famous for its wineries. Take a wine tour and enjoy some of the local fine wines, followed by a relaxing evening on the yacht.

Day 2 – Waiheke

Take in the scenic views of the island’s ominous volcano, Rangitoto, and enjoy a picnic amidst the flowers strewn on the rocky ground. Then, head out on a real wine tour, visiting some of the island’s more than 20 wineries. Afterward, taste some local lobsters and relax on the yacht.

Day 3 – Tryphena, Great Barrier

Spend the day at the former Midlands beach, swim, or go kayaking in Tryphena, the island’s most populated town. In the evening, you will head back to your yacht to relax and enjoy its luxurious amenities.

Day 4 – Harataonga Bay, Great Barrier

Explore the wild beauty of nature in Harataonga Bay. With no crowds of tourists or numerous yachtsmen, this place is perfect for enjoying extensive beaches that stretch over 1300 feet. In good weather, this place will become a real wonderland for you close to other people.

Day 5 – Kawau

Cross Hauraki Bay and find yourself off the coast of Kawau Island. Visit a beautiful Victorian house built in the 19th century where Sir George Grey, governor of New Zealand, lived. Enjoy lunch at the beach cafe, and then relax on your yacht for the rest of the day.

Day 6 – Whangaparaoa

Take a break at the northwestern tip of Whangaparaoa, where you can swim in the calm waters of a quiet harbor. Leave the yacht and take a kayak to swim through the mangrove forests, and put on comfortable shoes for a long walk through the heather fields. Some of the best golf courses in the world are here – enjoy a game and then head back to your yacht for a relaxing soak in the hot tub.

Day 7 – Auckland

On the last day of your trip, the captain will direct the yacht back to Auckland. Spend the day exploring the city’s shops and trying the local cuisine before heading to the airport.

In conclusion, yachting in New Zealand offers a unique and unforgettable experience. With stunning coastlines, picturesque islands, and a temperate climate, it’s a must-visit destination for yachtsmen looking for adventure and relaxation.
