Business Description

The Royal Motor Yacht Club Broken Bay, is ideally situated on the beautiful waters of Pittwater and is widely recognised as one of Australia’s premier Yacht Clubs. Since its inception back in the 1920’s the Club has undergone many changes, once a small semi-rural establishment that has transformed into a modern facility catering for a diverse community of cruising, sailing, racing, fishing and social events and activities.

A spirit of kinship and camaraderie has always been evident at our club and continues to evolve. We welcome not only those who own a boat but also those who just want to socialise and enjoy the Club’s atmosphere.

All members enjoy the restaurant, bars and heated pool which complements an international class marina facility catering to all sizes of watercraft. With a 100 tonne slipway and a variety of marine trade services on site most boating services are catered for at the Club.

This review is for the restaurant. I'm not from around here, so take my review with a grain of salt. The restaurant is pub style, where you order and pay at the counter, given a buzzer, and pick up your own food. Get your own water at the bar, and drinks. We put in reservations, so I was expecting table service, but that's on me. I had 1/2 dozen oysters, nice and creamy. SO had the seafood plate. Nice, typical Australian. Friendly staff. Best part seems to be the history of the yacht club itself. Think it would be a good spot to relax as a member.

What's not to love about the Royal motor. This place has it all. And now the pizza oven, delicious. Great spot for somewhere different breakie lunch or dinner. Staff friendly and they make a damn good cuppa to!

My overall view of the Royal Motor Yacht club our first visit outstanding Alistair the marina manager couldn't be more helpful nothing is a trouble for him thank you for giving us a wonderful experience. But there is always a but our restaurant experience was not the same we both ordered steak from the menu unfortunately my husband's was so tuff he left it on the plate uneaten when told the waitress she laughed and said oh well .That is not my idea of great table service .

The RMYC was founded in 1905 by the Royal Automobile Club and was originally known as ‘The Motor Yacht Club’.  It was viewed as the marine section of motoring and was established to ‘encourage and foster the sport and industry of motor boating and yachting’.

The Admiralty Warrant to wear the blue ensign was granted to the club the following year, and in 1910 the ‘Royal’ prefix was bestowed on the Club by HM King George V.

The RMYC led something of a nomadic existence in its formative years, but in 1936 it finally settled on Sandbanks and opened the doors to its new clubhouse.  Today it has around 1600 members, which are evenly split between those with an interest in motorboats and those who enjoy sailing.

On the water, the RMYC has been outstanding in promoting the sports of sailing and powerboat racing and has hosted some of the most prestigious national and international races.   In addition to its on-water activities the club also has a very active social calendar with around 100 events each year.

Whilst the RMYC is proud of its long tradition, it is also keen to move with the times.  In recent years its facilities have been boosted considerably by the addition of a 112-berth yacht haven, together with an extended clubhouse.

The club is always keen to welcome new members who have an active involvement in boating.  There are a range of membership options available to suit families and individuals of all ages.
