The International One Metre (IOM) class is a 1m long hull with 1.7m mast height and a minimum weight of 4kg. The class rules are very tight and limit yachts to 2-function control and 3 one-design rigs. Hull, ballast, draught and construction materials are also limited. There is sufficient freedom to allow different hull and fin/rudder shapes to be developed.

Our workshop opened in 2014 with the V8 IOM. Since then we have produced hundreds of hand crafted IOM yachts in the Vickers design range. Yachts that have helped IOM competitors around the world achieve their potential and exceed expectations in competition.
We are currently offering the V11, the innovative design that finished 3rd at the 2019 World Championships in Port Alegre, Brazil.
When our clients return, they know they are tapping in to smart, competitive technology in IOM design and build. Stiff, Lightweight boats, that are Easily Assembled, Fast and Forgiving to sail. Join the fun!
Improve your results at the club and the regatta, with the fast and forgiving V11 from Vickers RC Sailing
Set Up and Sail
The V11 detailing is simple but effective. In conjunction with the V11 Set Up Guide, assembly is straight forward, and vital tuning information assists you to quickly understand and master your V11's potential
Vickers RC Sailing build processes are well refined and thought out.
Our boats are light, stiff and clever, keeping to a simple and effective philosophy around detailing
The V11 design is a hull, foils and bulb package to compliment the full range of conditions experienced in RC Sailing. The hull design has full volume forward and features the familiar chines and tumblehome of the modern IOM for reduced weight and windage, as well as good tracking characteristics. The V11 features our peaked style foredeck for efficient water shedding when buried downwind and a geometrically strong shape for the forestay and mast ram areas.
Foils are slippery and strategically positioned with the rig to balance the yacht. The V11s forgiving balance through the wind range, allows the skipper to focus on the race at hand, and not rely on micro steering to maintain a consistent VMG.
The rig sits solid on its deck stepped mast step, complimented at deck level with an encapsulating mast gate arrangement over the mast ram. The rudder tube is rigidly supported inside the moulded servo tray.
Hull construction is from E-Glass Fibreglass Cloth and High Grade Epoxy Resin.
The foils are Carbon Fibre Layup with High Grade Epoxy Resin.
Paint system is a 2 pot Urethane and the boat is thoroughly post cured before finishing.
The V11 Features-
Plastic main hatch access.
Ready to accept RMG Winch and Standard sized Rudder Servo
Bow Bumper attached.
Hardware is Bantock including an adjustable mast ram, adjustable mainsheet post and tiller arm.
All necessary fittings attached for standing and running rigging.
The V11 comes out of our workshop in Beach Haven, Auckland New Zealand and is ready to accept rigs and electrics.
We also make sails that can be added to the order, or ordered separately.
So hit the enquiry button to discuss delivery times and options.
We are ready to help.
Essential to success in sailing comes down to the Rig and how it is set up and tuned. The V11 comes with a Set Up Guide that covers all the expert information needed to set up like the guns. It specifies the hardware, construction and tuning information to get your rig and sails set up and sailing near optimum straight off the bat, so you can enjoy your racing and punch above your weight.
Include Sets of sails from Vickers RC Sailing and enhance the experience.
Vickers Rc Sailing is back taking orders again for the V11
We look forward to hearing from you

Click the picture to get to the boat's page The IOM Class The International One Metre class was created by Jan Dejmo, with the support of Graham Bantock and the Permanent Committee of the ISAF-Radio Sailing Division, and adopted by ISAF-RSD in 1988. The intent was to pull together a variety of "One metre" class rules from different countries, and provide for a common, restricted, inexpensive international class of stable, easily-built designs. The result is the most popular RC racing yacht class in the world. The class has enjoyed such success because competitive IOMs can be built by an ordinary modeller at home, and due to the class restrictions competitive boats remain competitive for a number of years. IOM rules The performance of a RC yacht depends on hull lenght, beam, displacement, sail area, bulb draft, ballast ratio and rig plan. The only parameter than can be freely changed is the beam, all others are restricted by the IOM class rules. Therefore it is primarily differing beams and positions of maximum beam, which distinguish the different IOM designs. In addition to performance factors, the class rules explicitly restrict certain materials and construction methods in order to keep the class inexpensive and able to be built by an amateur builder. Radio control is restricted to two channels. Appendages and sails can be made of any material. A competitive boat can be built at home.
US One-Meter Venom Sailboat
U.s. one-meter venom sailboat.
Tippecanoe Boats is proud to have taken over the production of the incredibly fast and agile US One Meter Venom racing sailboat. This design has an illustrious history; between 1994 and 2000, the Venom, as produced by Bob Sterne (Bob’s Boatyard), won six out of seven of the U.S. One Meter Class Championships (as impressively, the winning Venoms were skippered by five different skippers during that time).
Tippecanoe Boats is continuing with Bob Sterne’s design and is proud to announce the re-introduction of the Venom sailboat to our line of fast and high-quality RC sailboats.
Through extensive testing, we have designed a layered carbon fiber and kevlar hull that is infused with a vinylester resin. The result is a hull that is even stronger and stiffer while still remaining incredibly light, fast, and otherwise identical to its kevlar-only predecessor.
At this time, we are excited to be selling two crucial components of the Venom: the lead keel bulbs and the bare hull. As soon as possible, we will be adding additional parts, and, eventually, an entire Venom kit. Please stay tuned as we integrate the Venom into our line of high-quality RC sailboats!
Kevlar-carbon fiber hull : $475.00
Includes the hull only.
Lead keel bulb (4 pounds): $75.50

International One Metre Radio Sailing Great Britain
One Metre Class Boats
Since the IOM design was introduced in the late 1980s dozens of designs have been tried and tested throughout large and highly competitive fleets in Europe and Australasia. It's only recently that one or two designs have begun to dominate, although single design variety has really dominated.
The answer lies in the quasi tolerant nature of the box rule and the relentless pace of development within tight class rule parameters.
Many boats designed between 2000 and 2010 are still very competitive at club level today. Some, like the Italko favour A rig conditions whereas a Lintel seems at its best with B or C rig.
Widgets, Topiko and Obsession are also handy boats as is the more recent Fraktal and Alternative which are all capable of a good turn of speed, have excellent pedigree and capable of challenging Britpops, Kantuns and V9s on a good day.
The IOM GBR is working over the next two years to catalogue European and Australasian designs such as MMX, Sedici, TNT, Atlas, Corbie to create a useful archive.
Two significant additional developments are running in parallel with the challenging catalogue task.
Devoting a webpage for building self made wooden or composite boats from plans, including comprehensive data on IOM designs and their key capabilities.
Developing a buyers guide advice for skippers who wish to enter the IOM world to experience the joy of sailing one of these rewarding boats.

Yacht Classes Sailed
The International One Metre is a class that is sailed widely around Australia and Internationally. It alows controlled development in the hull and can use 3 strict one design rigs. The rules have been developed to produce close racing at an economical cost. A good fleet of IOM's sail at PLRMYC on Tuesdays and although there is a large range of hull designs the racing is competitive. This is the most popular radio yacht sailed in Australia. Second hand One Metres for sale can be found on our information page.
A Laser comes in the distinct blue carry bag ready-assembled so no boat building skills are needed. With a new boat out of the bag just add a radio and receiver and start sailing. The design is simple and exceedingly robust allowing Lasers to easily survive encounters with other boats and rocky shorelines. The relatively heavy keel and standard A, B, C and D rigs allow sailing in all winds up to 40 kts. With no mast stays and a single main sheet rigs can be changed in under half a minute.
The RG65 is an international class. The rules limit only the length 65cm the height of the rig 110cm and the sail area 2250 sq cm. Boats are light, quick and responsive with the typical boat weighing around 1 kilogram complete with rigs rudder keel and bulb. The RG65 is very popular internationaly and is now popular with our members.
Dragon Force RTR (Ready to Run) RC Sailboat. The Dragon Force has been developed to introduce an affordable competition style sailboat to the RC market. This sailboat is based on the ICE design with an ABS hull, profiled aluminum fin and molded plastic rudder. The rig is a full sized, low aspect RG65 rig with carbon spars and a ball raced gooseneck. The Dragon Force also features pre-installed radio and can be on the water and ready to sail within 30 minutes. For around $200.00 it is a great ideal boat for beginers and can be bought from the internet.
The DragonFlite 95 is constructed of several cutting edge components. With carbon fibre keel fin, advanced design keel bulb, shroudless keel step, one piece carbon mast and mylar sails this all new racer has the kind of light wind performance most other radio yachts can only dream of. Its lightweight and long, narrow hull would normally mean an inability to perform in strong winds, even when the boat is overpowered it still remains easily controllable to windward and always has astonishing speed. Around $500 and can also be bought on the internet.
The modern ‘M’ class yacht is a ‘high-tech’ racer, sporting up to 6 measured rigs with trends of profiled rotating masts, unstayed carbon rigs, rotating rigs, pocket luff mainsails, pre-preg carbon hulls and fins offering a wide scope for design freedom. At only 1290mm in overall length, the restricted development allow both the professional or amateur designer/builder/sailmaker an attractive avenue to test their knowledge and skills in one of the most exhilarating radio yacht classes in the world.
There are also many kits and off the shelf yachts you can purchase from hobby shops not recognised as class yachts but can be fun to sail and a cheap way to start and see if you like the sport. All radio controlled yachts are most welcome to sail . Beginners will receive all necessary help to get started.

International One Metre
The International One Metre, commonly known in radio sailing circles as the IOM, is seen by many as the pinnacle of Radio Sailing.
As the name suggests the boats are 1 metre long and they have a rig up to 1.7m high and weigh in at 4kg. The materials allowed for their construction are restricted in the class rules but the designs of the boats have evolved over the years to maximise the performance within these boundaries.
Catsails are at the forefront of the design and manufacture of high performance sails for the IOM and are proud to have been the powersource for many National Champions around the world.
