Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans drag ‘lazy and bad attitude’ Season 5 crew

Diana Cruz and Danni Warren on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are not holding back about the Season 5 crew.

We are our episodes into the current season and fans are not impressed with what’s happening on the Parsifal III sailing yacht.

Their dynamic isn’t the biggest complaint Below Deck Sailing Yacht viewers have had about the crew.

To be fair, not all crew members are coming under fire. Chief Engineer Davide Morosi, who replaced Colin MacRae, Keith Allen, and Captain Glenn Shephard have gotten nothing but love from fans.

However, Chef Cloyce Martin,  Danni Warren,  Diana Cruz, and Emma Crouch are being bashed for their actions.

Over on Reddit, a thread to discuss the most recent episode had fans coming in hot.

“So many lazy and bad attitude crew members!!! It’s making ME annoyed just watching them!” wrote one Reddit user.

Another user shared, “Everyone on this crew is too damn sensitive. Daisy, Emma, Diana, Danni, Cloyce, Gary. Everyone needs to chill.”

A different one compared Emma to Bri Muller from Below Deck Med Season 9, while Danni was slammed for hating to do cabins, which is the job of a stew. One critic also felt the crew didn’t deserve the very generous tip from the current guests.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht critics drag Season 5 crew

The cabin issue was brought up more than once and was directed at Danni and Diana for complaining about doing them. Danni was also blasted for being so flirty, with the critic suggesting she take a cold shower.

“LMAOOOO the shot of emma b**ching on the toilet is peak drunk in the club energy i lowkey loved that,” said a critic about Emma, who also had a user declaring, “Emma is done for.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans come for Season 5 crew

The crew was called out for forgetting they were there to work, not just play. A Reddit user had an issue with Diana wanting to be on service while being unwilling to learn how to make a drink.

“WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE STEWS???? Do they really think they are never supposed to work or have training? And it should have been a fun training. They were simply pre-gaming with their friends before going out. They can take the joy out of everything.” wrote a user.

Season 5 crew slammed by fans

There was one who couldn’t agree more with the remark about Cloyce and the cake. Diana was also laughed at for how she reacted to Emma, thinking she liked Gary.

Cloyce and his horrible store-bought cake was also one hot topic.

“Cloyce – ‘I ordered a cake because I don’t like making cake’ then c’mon can’t you order a cake that’s more impressive than whatever that was,” wrote a user.

Chef Cloyce Martin dragged

It wasn’t just the cake disaster that had critics dragging Cloyce. They also disliked his confessional where he shared his feelings on what older women want. Cloyce’s age was also mentioned.

“I’d rather stay on the boat with Glenn than go out with thee people,” was another comment.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fan comments

Oh yes, Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans aren’t happy with the Season 5 crew. There’s still plenty of season to play out, so maybe fan opinion will change before it’s all over.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo. Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.

I hope Glenn rips into the crew. Cloyce, Danni, Diana, and Emma DO NOT have what it takes. They stink!!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is dreadfully boring, alas

Three people lean into each other asleep in a van

comment icon 5 comments

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season five is on its fifth episode, which opened and ended with the crew partying and drinking, and in between, absolutely nothing happened.

It was almost like this episode was a dream, but usually in dreams wacky things happen. Here, we’re in purgatory with Danni’s desperation and Davide’s dangling balls.

Below Deck traditionally delivers light drama and entertainment from:

  • obnoxious guests,
  • incompetent crew members,
  • and crew relationships.

There are just faint glimmers of the second and third, but Below Deck Sailing Yacht feels like it has its sails up and there’s just no wind.

Seven people in matching orange shirts and white shorts stand in a line; one is holding a tray of champagne glasses

Having tattled on her girls to Emma, Daisy said, “Here we fucking go!”, probably assuming Emma would create some drama. But no. “Why are we mad?” Diana asked. Danni said, “There’s no one against you.”

So everyone went back to the boat, drunk, after Keith bought KFC, which Gary ate like he was a drunken asshole, because he is. He was so drunk he couldn’t get in his bunk, and later fell into his closet, naked.

Davide asked Glenn to join the drunks in the jacuzzi, and Glenn said, “100 percent not.” That’s why he’s the captain.

Upstairs, Danni mounted Keith on a lounger.”I shy away when people come in really hot,” he told her. Danni said, “I come on hot all the time,” which is accurate, as long as we’re talking about a thousand suns hot, not microwave hot. Danni clearly forgot what she’d said minutes earlier in the van: “I will never make the first move because I know better.” LOL sure, Jan.

Naked Davide and his blurred balls crawled into his bunk above Glenn, and then he rolled off and fell onto Glenn. The next morning, Davide blamed “who designed that bed.” I think it’s whoever designed that alcohol.

Time for the third charter, and it’s just one night for Tiffany Moon, of The Real Housewives of Dallas , because I guess Bravo doesn’t pay new-ish Housewives enough to afford more than one night of product integration.

At the preference sheet meeting, Glenn said they need to be at the top of their game, and “that means no swimming this charter. Okay, Cloyce?” Cloyce just grynned.

Upstairs, Emma was doing work, and Gary told her, “rolling towels, don’t worry about that,” and then complained that “Emma’s work ethic is not all there,” criticizing her lack of “motivation” and “drive.” She was fucking doing something, bro.

Then Gary said he could “lead by example,” and I laughed so hard I coughed up my spleen.

The guests arrived as Diana, I think, said “they’re walking way too fast,” and we saw them walking in slow motion. I’m guessing this was the editors amusing themselves because they, too, were struggling not to fall asleep.

They also gave us a fun edit when Glenn left Davide at the wheel. Davide said, “Fantastic,” in a hesitant way, and then the camera zoomed out to reveal a guest, Joyce, sitting right there, and asking him, “Are you new to this?”

During the tour of the boat, Tiffany said, “we’re orgy people.” Don’t tease us with something that might actually happen this season!

When sailing began, Danni stood in front of the cabinet door that flung open last time. I Know this boat is falling apart but can they not get a lock between charters? An eggplant rolled down Cloyce’s work area; even the emoji aren’t locked down on that boat.

Danni had some fun with it, sliding across the floor and into the bar.

Glenn said they needed to shift tacks, because of wind or something, and asked, “Why are we slow on this tack?” Cut to Emma sitting, holding a rope like it was a piece of licorice she was contemplating eating later. “I can’t bring any more out,” she said.

A person sits on a boat and looks toward the ocean

So Glenn sent Gary to help Emma, and Gary used all of his man muscles to make the rope move, which Emma recapped this way: “Gary comes down on his fucking white horse, his cape flying in the wind. And of course, maybe I’m doing it wrong, maybe I’m just poor little weak girl, and I can’t do it, and the boys are better me than me, obviously, and I’m just fucking inept.”

The guests did a photo shoot on the shore while Danni flirted with Keith; he said the sun was “that’s beautiful” and she said, “like you.” So hot, Danni, coming in so hot.

Danni told us “it feels like we are dating in, like, a Victorian era.” No, more like a fantasy era because you are not dating! She then said Keith wears a “chastity belt” while working, because I guess he doesn’t whip it out and try to stick it in while guests are around? What does she want here?

The guests asked for Japanese cuisine, and luckily Cloyce admitted “I am not an experienced Japanese chef” but explained that he did have lots of training: “sophomore year of high school, when we studied world cuisine, that honed/boned my craft in the Asian cuisine department. But that was a while ago.”

Cloyce is clearly trying to compete with Jono’s architecture school for Least Prepared Below Deck Chef of All Time.

“This will be either incredibly chill or this will be the worst thing I’ve ever done,” he said.

Diana made an espresso martini for a guest named J Mo, and you just know someone who calls themselves J Mo is going to be a pain in the ass. “It’s missing one bean,” he said. That’s when I learned that espresso martinis are served with three coffee beans, which has a long tradition .

Diana told him, “I’m giving you decaf from now on,” and out of earshot, said, “I’m hating you guys right now.” Honestly, I’ve never expected a specific cocktail garnish, so I cannot relate to his disappointment, but also, if that’s the way it’s made, maybe just do that?

Danni made J Mo’s second cocktail, and gave him his three beans, so he jumped up and hugged her and high-fived her and Danni proposed marriage right then and squatted down to have his baby.

Emma was on overnights, and the editing suggested she slept through her shift instead of doing work. “Oh shit,” she said at 6 a.m. when waking up one hour before her shift end. “I’m pretty sure I’ve gone around the whole boat,” she told Keith. Keith was horrified that the deck was still wet, which, okay? It seems like the complaint was she washed it too late for it to dry, which is a problem, but not like she didn’t do it.

Keith told on her to Gary, and then in an interview, said, and I quote, “She’s not getting the whole boat shmick and schmam.” And you are not getting the words right, so we’re all failing here.

The editors were so desperate for footage that we had Cloyce cracking his own back on the floor, and then asking Davide to crack his back, and then Davide saying he learned how to do that on a previous boat, where he had a weird captain who walked on his crew, I guess literally. Anyway, Davide said, “I didn’t try on Cloyce because I didn’t want to kill him.”

The guests woke up and packed because this trip was shorter than the plane ride from Ibiza back to Dallas. To amuse myself, I searched flights, picked some random dates, and the shortest return trip from Ibiza to Dallas had one stop and was 18 hours and 30 minutes. So basically, the length of their charter.

“Another good one. We’re on a roll,” Glenn said. Yeah, it’s pretty easy when guests aren’t even on board long enough to have a bowel movement.

Glenn thanked the deck team for not killing the guests in the tender, and Cloyce for making food. The tip: $25,000. For one day! And literally nothing special!

Then the crew went back out. Emma complained to Daisy that “I feel like I’m becoming a hinderance”; Daisy told her to not let it “eat at you,” which strikes me as useful advice along the lines of just stop being depressed!

Emma got physically ill, saying, “I need water, I feel really faint” and then went out for fresh air, “shaky,” and “sweaty and hot.” But she just went back to the boat.

Danni whined about flirting with Keith, they drunkenly danced in an empty bar, and the editors cut back to Glenn watching sports on TV with obviously fake audio.

A person lies in bed holding a drink

On the drive back, class act Gary told Danni, “Shut your bitch face, beautiful brains,” he told Danni, and she grabbed his neck and started choking him. Finally! Some pay off. “Ooh, I like it,” he said. Me too, keep going, Danni, and don’t stop until he’s off this show.

Danni told us, “I’ve been deprived of attention,” and I’m surprised the world’s TV stations didn’t stop to alert us of that breaking news. “Gary seems to be giving me the attention and the banter that I need,” she said. So they jumped into the water, and then started making out.

That’s when I started dry heaving, and I think I’m done recapping this season for now. Even the preview for next episode was boring: Cloyce making a plain Caesar salad, saying something cocky, Keith and Danni drama, zzzzz.

I’ll probably keep watching, and maybe check in later in the season once or twice, and hope that Below Deck: Sailing Yacht can recover, or at least just hurry up and be done so we can be on to the next ship.

Happy discussing!

WTF is wrong with Emma? I could possibly understand if she was ugly or fat or 10 feet tall, but she is very good looking with a nice body…Yet she thinks she is unfuckable? So weird. I could not believe she actually slept thru her entire shift except one hour. Then acted like she was working all night and nobody should complain about her. And she ruined the sailing because she doesn’t know how to pull a rope in. Has she ever even been on a boat before? I get it that Gary is disgusting, but I don’t think he is being horrible to her when he keeps on having to explain stuff to her. I would be screaming at her by now.

Finally Danni picked the right guy from some action. DUH I understand that there are allegations against Gary. Yes, he goes a bit too far when flirting, but he never has struck me as scary creepy kind of guy. I’m not saying I don’t believe the allegations, but these days everything is different, and if he did do anything wrong, then that is awful.

Okay, this is quite a sticky question these days…And a little off topic I watched the finale of Only Murders In the Building last night and in it there was a discussion saying that no man can ever compliment a woman on anything any more. I absolutely hate that. Is it REALLY such a horrible thing to do? Obviously if it said with a leer or just done really creepy, I would not want that, but IDK, I just don’t get it. Do women really want to never be complimented any more?

I’d suspect most people are just fine with compliments, though like you said, that can get creepy, and I think context affects that. I wouldn’t hesitate to comment on a friend’s outfit or a hairstyle change, but in a workplace, I wouldn’t do that with a co-worker. It’s just about being thoughtful, I think, more than anything else.

For me, I try to be generous with compliments and gratitude and kind words. But I generally avoid commenting on physical appearance since it’s hard to know why something changed. For example, someone might be thinner because they’re dieting, because they’re sick, or because they have an eating disorder—or none of the above! So if I say “You look great!” it might not be for a great reason. Also, even if I know that person and know the reason, it could imply I thought they did not look great earlier.

Thank you for that excellent response!! Very well put! I try to compliment people too, mostly just clothes or whatever, but it usually makes their day in a tiny way.

Welcome! I can’t remember the exact context of the Only Murders joke/comment, but I suspect that comes from a place of anxiety about not wanting to hurt someone’s feelings, and perhaps getting defensive if they do.

Yes, it sucks. The other bravo franchises break or don’t come back, and this one is the proverbial dead horse.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11 Recap: Gary’s Going Sober

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

We’re back with the recap for  Below Deck Sailing Yacht  Season 5, Episode 11.  Last week , Daisy forgot to include rosé in her provision order, which caused a mad scramble to obtain some. Chef Cloyce stepped up his game in the galley, but a communication issue caused a spat between him and Daisy that ended in smiles and awkward giggles. One of the guests was stung by a jellyfish, but Gary’s emergency first aid quickly resolved the problem. Here’s exactly what went down on BDSY Season 5, Episode 11: “Much Ado About Crushing.”

What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11?

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

In this week’s episode, the crew performs a skit depicting Ronnie’s jellyfish attack in a humorous light, and the ladies LOVE it. The guests go clubbing on their last night in Ibiza, and they’re welcomed back with an early morning pizza breakfast. And deciding that alcohol is not his friend, Gary has a shockingly sober crew night out. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 11.

A little blessing from Saint Carmen

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Below Deck (@belowdeckbravo)

Danni and Diana are decorating the dining area for the birthday dinner. It’s a 50 th birthday, so they’re using gold and black streamers. But when the primary comes down and sees what they’re doing, she says, “Oh, no, no, no! No black. I hate gold and black. I’m not dead.”

She doesn’t want any “over the hill” jokes. She even insists they change the placemats from black to white. It’s kind of ironic, because the shirt she’s wearing is actually black.

But before dinner, the guests have requested to go watch the Saint Carmen Festival. Saint Carmen is the patron saint of sailors, apparently.

“So, the ceremony is all about asking her for protection when we venture out on the high seas,” Captain Glenn explains. “I don’t know if I’m a true believer in all that stuff, but why tempt fate? With the jelly fish sting, these ladies need a little blessing from Saint Carmen.”

Gary and Chase ferry the women into the port in one of the tenders. Unlike the last time he drove the tender at night, Gary doesn’t crash on the rocks this time.

Saint Carmen goes by on the front of a ferry boat, but there are so many people on the boat that it’s hard to see the patron saint.

There’s a whole flotilla of boats welcoming Saint Carmen. Ronnie says it’s everyone coming to wish her a happy birthday. Whatever floats your boat, lady.

Cloyce compares his and Daisy’s relationship to a marriage

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

Preparing for dinner service, Cloyce recalls that he and Daisy had a little communication hiccup the previous night.

“The chief stew and chef relationship is quite a bit like a marriage,” Cloyce interviews. “You have to adapt to each other’s differences and overcome to accomplish whatever mission it is. Happy wife, happy life, as they say.”

“Every time I go into a meal with Cloyce,” Daisy says, “honestly, it’s a bloody rollercoaster . I’m just praying, ‘Please let this be a good meal.’”

After dinner, Daisy had the guys organize a little skit to re-enact the jellyfish attack. They just want to make the ladies laugh and forget how scary and painful it was. Gary stars as Ronnie, while Chase plays the jellyfish.

“There’s a burn and a sting, and her ears begin to ring,” reads Keith. That gets them laughing. They love it! It is a very clever entertainment.

Keith dubs himself, “Dr. Seuss of the Seas, baby!”

Daisy sets an example for Diana

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

After dinner the ladies go ashore to go clubbing. They want an early morning pizza party when they return.

Daisy’s original plan was to have Diana get up at 5:00 and serve the pizza, then go back to bed. But Diana made such a fuss about it, Daisy decides it’s just too much trouble fighting with her over the early start time. Rather than fight about it , Daisy will get up and serve pizza.

When Daisy tells her to get up at 8:15 in the morning, she asks, “But I thought you said at 5:00 a.m.?”

“Well, if you let me finish the conversation,” Daisy responds, “now I’m going to get up. You made it very clear how you felt about it.”

“Diana has this entitlement, like, ‘Why do I have to do this?’” Daisy interviews. “[Because] that’s your job. I also want to show her that I am willing to do what I ask people to do. That being said, I’m f*cking pissed.”

“This is bullsh*t,” Diana says in her own confessional. “She’s just trying to be a martyr.”

“If you were going to do the job,” a producer asks her, “why did you complain about it in the first place?”

“Even though I was going to do the job,” Diana responds, “it doesn’t make it right. Daisy’s making me feel like she’s doing me this huge favor when she was the one making a mistake [by] making me sleep five hours or less. It’s just stupid. It doesn’t make sense.”

Both Danni and Diana are very immature. How did they even get hired in the first place?

When the guests return to the boat after partying all night, Cloyce has mac and cheese, quesadillas (my personal favorite), nachos, and pizza waiting for them. Yummy!

Gary goes sober for the crew night out

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 11

At the tip meeting, Gary turns down the celebratory glass of champagne. He also tells Daisy that he’s “not drinking tonight.”

“So you’re just not going to drink for the rest of the season?” Daisy asks.

“Yeah, pretty much,” he says. “Because every time I drink, I seem to offend people … Alcohol is [not] my friend.”

“I am fully behind this if he is genuinely trying to grow and change,” Daisy interviews, “But I don’t see this lasting very long … Honestly, I’ll be surprised if he even makes it through dinner.”

I think that’s a good idea, especially after he hit Davide in the eye with the lollypop and didn’t even remember what happened. At dinner, when everyone else is ordering alcohol, Gary shocks everyone and orders a “mocktail.”

“I think it’s amazing,” Daisy says. “I’m gonna be your number one supporter.”

But as the night goes on, Gary feels a little out of place. “Being sober around a bunch of drunk people is something I’ve never experienced before,” he interviews. “Everyone’s sloppy. Everyone’s slurring their words. F*ck, normally, I’m probably even worse than these guys are, so I can only imagine.”

Even more impressive, when they return to the boat, rather than going to the jacuzzi with everyone else, Gary goes to bed.

“I know deep down inside,” he says, “I’m a lovable person, and I don’t need alcohol to prove that … I’ve got a problem, and I think I need to learn when to say no or how to stop myself from continuing down this road.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht  airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
