Disney’s Newport Bay Club features two restaurants – one of which is a buffet Cape Cod, and the other a table service location known as the Yacht Club.

As part of the InsidEars Hotel and Resorts Discovery weekend, DLP Town Square was invited to dine at this restaurant.  

Theme and decor

As you may imagine, and fitting in with the New England nautical theme of the hotel, the Yacht Club takes on a very nautical flavour. Dotted around the restaurant are beautiful models of yachts with naval decor throughout the whole restaurant.  

Inside there are two rooms, the main dining room and a secondary private dining area (primarily reserved for groups). The combination of decor, lighting and sounds make this feel like a high-class and premium dining experience.  

The most beautiful of the tables is the ‘Captain’s Table’. This table seats 7 guests in a circle close to the window with a lake view.  

Additional fun details come in the way of the napkins which are folded to resemble a boat when arriving at the restaurant – it is details like this that are the Disney Difference, and it’s a joy to see that alive here.  

The menu is a primarily nautical affair opting for more seafood dishes, but with plenty of offer for those who are not fond of fish.  

For starter I took the Vegetable Soup which, presumably, is seasonal. The portion was just the right size for me – I’m not much of a starter person – and was nice and light. The only negative here is that it was a touch too salty, but I still enjoyed regardless.  

For Main I took the cod, tartare sauce and fries. The presentation of the dish looked pleasing, and the taste matched it. The cod was nice and flaky with plenty of flavour. For those expecting a traditional English Fish and Chips, this is not it but it does tickle the tastebuds and is beautifully cooked. The portion was plenty big enough for me as I found myself struggling towards the end.  

Desert was the Tarte aux Pommes (or Apple Tart in English). This, for me, was the highlight of the entire meal. It came presented beautifully with these fine apple slices laid delicately upon the thin pastry base, with a scoop of ice cream on top, all finished off with two small slices of fresh apple. For one, the taste was divine and for second, the fresh apple slices provided that wonderful contrast that set this dish apart. I would eat at this restaurant again especially for the Apple Tart!  

Should you eat at the Yacht Club?

All things considered, is the Yacht Club worth a try on your upcoming Disneyland Paris visits? Without a doubt, the decor feels luxurious and fits with the theme of the hotel and the food is generally of a high standard, I did not hear a complaint about it’s quality throughout the meal.  

Obviously, if you’re a day guest, this restaurant is quite a walk – I would still say it is worth a visit though – but for guests of the Disney hotels, there is no doubt that you should take a visit.  

My tip? Try to book at sunset and enjoy the stunning views over Lake Disney – trust me, that is one mighty fine view!

We had this venue included in our free Disney dining plan, the breakfast times were allocated so we didn’t have to wait long for a table. It was acceptable for a buffet breakfast. But as with all Disney dining not particularly tasty or exciting. But... it is certainly edible. More

Yacht club had a decently sized menu. You can see everything on the Disney app and plan your dinner accordingly. Which is what my husband and I did. Our reservation was early in terms of Europe so around 1830. Check in was prompt. Our waiter... was great but we did feel forgotten about. At the beginning of the night our waiter was serving our wine for us and by the end of the night we were serving our selves. Didn’t bother us, but take it how you will. The starters & dessert was fantastic but we chose POORLY for the main course. During the starters we were checked in on frequently & served bread. Our waiter checked on us making sure everything was well and tasted good. Starters: New England Clam Chowder (delicious) Squid (really big portion and absolutely delicious!! Definitely get this) Mussels (super tasty & really good portion as well) Once the entree was dropped off , we sat there for about 10-15 minutes without being checked on. I had taken a couple bites of the entree to see how it was and my husband did not touch his at all. We did politely let our waiter know that we just did not like the chicken and he was very understanding. Asked if we wanted to swap out but by this point we were full from our starters. No hard feelings or anything of that nature. Our entree we decided to get the chicken. Do not do this if you are expecting the best chicken of your life. First the size and appearance of the chicken was unappealing. The color was a yellow green which was off putting. And then there was the portion which was a very small chicken thigh. The quality chicken was dry and bland. I think the hardest part was the smell of vegetables that came out with it. The smell was pungent & ruined our appetite for the chicken for the both of us. The gravy that was brought out was more of just a bland aujux. And there was some sort of light pesto coating. For dessert we for a cute little chocolate fondant which was a type of mini cake that was absolutely delicious and perfect for that chocolate craving. More

We ate at the Yacht Club hotel restaurant this evening and received brilliant service from a waitress called Laura. It was a very busy night and she was rushed off her feet, however still providing great service to our table, and the tables around us.... Thank you! More

Half board menu was small just a choice of 2 starters, mains or dessert and the same for children. But the food was well cooked and very nice indeed. I think if you like a big buffet then stick to that as the meals are... normal sizes. More

I ordered the Ribeye steak qhich was tough, dry, and flavorless. I tried to send it back but instead of them sending out an improved steak, they insisted that I choose something else on the menu. I chose seafood linguine, which was dry, tasteless, and... had on larve shrimp and the tiniest mussels (5) and clams (2), that you have ever seen. I've eaten better at McDonald's and for a hell of a lot less. I am from America and expect a certain standard feom Disney, but this was an absolute let down!!! More

Super disappointed with our recent experience at The Yacht Club which is one Disneyland Paris premier restaurants. We were on a meal plan so had a set menu. My wife is Vegan and asked what options were available. The repose was Starter: Vegetable soup, main... Linguine and red pesto and desert apple tart. We asked if the soup was made with cream and when our server replied yes we explained that cream is not vegan and if there was a way to not serve it with the cream. We were told no. When we asked what else we could have we were told a salad. Salad is a generous word to describe a bowl of unseasoned rocket leaves and two sun dried tomatoes (see photo). The main was over cooked pasta (which also isn’t vegan but we just gave up at that point). Desert was nice but I also suspect was not vegan as the pastry had lamination suggesting it was made using butter. All in all a poor effort from a 4star restaurant. We went over the road to the McDonald’s in Disney village. They have several vegan options which sadly rate higher than the fine dining the Yacht club offered. More

We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet here. We were allocated a time so walk straight in. There was a really large choice of everything and our children loved the pancake machine and fresh juices. Staff were really quick at clearing the plates and friendly.

We like the Yacht Club for a light meal after meals in the park can be really heavy. I have a dairy allergy which I knew could make things difficult but the cast members could not have been more amazing. They promptly grabbed an allergen... sheet so we could see what was available for me to eat. All tables have a hand sanitiser on and the staff all wore face masks. On the set menu there were no starters or desserts that I could have so they arranged for me to have a custom salad and then the vegan red berry pavlova from the main menu. The vegetable linguine was dairy free. Couldn't fault the food or how brilliant the staff were. More

Wetherspoons or Taco Bell standard food in France is sad, at $50 for a kids menu is terrible. The decor and wine list is ok but at odds with poor cafe style food. You accept the ridiculous price because Disney but I passed my meal... back and haven’t done that in 20 years. Rude staff and a scam tbh. More

Waited an hour for food. Meal plan customers are stuck with a set menu rather than the delicious sounding and smelling surf and turf. Only fish option was... "Tempura battered cod with chips and peas" = fake Brit fish and chips. Worst meal we had... in three days at Disney: you're better off eating in the parks. More

We decided to book the Yacht Club for a special dinner after a long day in the park. The service was somewhat attentive, and helpful with our dietary requests. We decided to order off the Set Regate Menu and Kids Set Menu. The adult starters... was presented well but a bit cold. The muscles were extremely small. When the mains came out they looked like they'd been sitting under the service food warmer for a while, the gravy had a thick skin on top and the chicken was really tough. We decided to end the meal there and only paid for the drinks we had. Would not recommend for a special meal. Extremely overpriced. More

We ate here whilst staying within the hotel. It was part of our full board plus so we were given the set menu. We had soup, mussels, tempura fish and apple pie (between us) All of which we enjoyed. The service was very good and... the ambiance of the restaurant was great too. Not loud and yet busy. More

Had both cod and chips types. Fried batton and grilled. Vegetable starter and ice cram for deserts. Much better food than the restaurant next door. Ice cream is delicious. I used full board option when booking tickets. This restaurant definatlry worth eating

Paid extra for the Birthday cake. It had 30th anniversary themed chocolate decorations which my daughter loved. Staff played music, sang and clapped when they delivered it to the table, my daughter was thrilled! It was delicious and huge (there were three of us, it... could have easily fed double that!) More

Excellent restaurant . Pleasant and comfortable surroundings and good table service - very relaxing compared to the buffet restaurant opposite which is quite stressful! Great menu - for both adults band children. Generous portions . Thoroughly recommend.

Overall rating

We didn't stay in the hotel but made reservations here and enjoyed walking around the hotel and perimeters after eating. It is a beautiful area! I ordered from the 3 course meal where you can pick what your appetizer, main course, and dessert would be. I ordered the clams for my appetizer and they were good! My main meal was the fish and sticks and they were okay. Nothing too special. My dessert was a chocolate cake and was tasty but nothing special. I did have a cocktail and enjoyed it while looking at the beautiful view! Service was quick and kind.

It's a great restaurant inside the Newport hotel. Menu offerings are good with a caveat that beef or steaks are not a great quality you find at the Yachtsman steakhouse in Orlando. They do try to mimic the Yachtsman steakhouse as best they can. It's great if you're staying in the hotel. Good food and wine pairing and desserts

Dream Island: Moscow’s multi-brand, mega indoor theme park

Dream Island offers rides and attractions , alongside a large shopping mall, multiplex cinema, concert hall, restaurants and more

After the launch of a new Hotel Transylvania attraction this spring, Europe’s largest indoor theme park , Dream Island in Moscow, is almost complete.

The presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of the park’s launch ceremony last February signalled the cultural importance of this privately backed, $1.5 billion project. However, it traded for just 18 days before a COVID-19 enforced closure. The park reopened last July with limited capacity and now Dream Island’s operators are planning future expansions.

The ambitious project was realised by businessman Amiran Mutsoev . Chairman of the board at Dream Island, he made his money in shopping malls and real estate with the Regions Group. But these are both crowded markets, especially in Russia. So Mutsoev set out to find another sector in which he could develop a niche.

To find out more about Dream Island, we speak to the park’s Technical Director, Ivan Scholl .

Entertainment, retail and more

Dream Island offers more than just a theme park. Beneath its seven glass domes, the 300,000 square metre building also houses a large shopping mall, multiplex cinema, concert hall, restaurants and cafés. The split is roughly 50:50 between entertainment and retail . In addition, the wider 100-hectare site features an outdoor promenade with family recreation zones.

A 4-star hotel, children’s yacht school, plus some more teen-friendly attractions are on the way in phase two.

One feature of Dream Island is a striking castle-like facade. According to the UK-based architects that designed it, Chapman Taylor, the look is based loosely on historic Kremlin architecture found in various Russian cities. It is also inspired by imposing Gothic buildings of Western Europe.

Bringing themed entertainment to Russia

“The market here is empty,” says Scholl. “There is no concept of a theme park in the minds of most [Russian] people. Some travel to Spain, to PortAventura. Maybe some travel to Disneyland Paris . But it’s not more than 5% of the people from our area.”

Now, Dream Island aims to change this.

Mutsoev was previously quoted as saying Dream Island, “Opens an entirely new chapter in the history of entertainment and commercial real estate market. Not only in Russia but the whole world!” Meanwhile, “Russia gets its Disneyland,” was how The New York Times described the park’s opening.

International IP and style guides

Dream Island has its fair share of intellectual property. After abandoning earlier plans to build a DreamWorks theme park in St Petersburg, Mutsoev turned his attentions to the Russian capital instead and adopted a multi-brand approach to IP. But his earlier efforts in St Petersburg had not all been in vain:

“Once we’d we signed the agreement with DreamWorks, it opened the doors to other IPs,” says Scholl. “They saw that if we were working with DreamWorks, we were serious.”

Dream Island offers visitors nine themed zones. Four of them are dedicated to globally recognised brands: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hello Kitty, The Smurfs and Sony Pictures’ Hotel Transylvania . Other areas include the Snow Queen and Dream Race.

Then there’s Mowgli in Dino Land, which combines a Russian telling of the Jungle Book with a tried and tested Jurassic theme. Guests can also encounter Buratino, a local twist on the tales of Pinocchio.

“There were many cartoons made in Soviet times,” says Scholl, “but they are very abstract and there are no style guides. For the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we received a very bold album of pictures and stories from ViacomCBS. It explained why the characters are like this, who are their enemies, how the place should look. With this, it’s much easier to create a good place that really feels like you are in their world.”

Dream Island – not just another shopping mall

Moscow, of course, is known for its harsh winters. In fact, says Scholl, “It is relatively cold most of the year. And it is raining quite often; more and more I would say as the planet changes .”

Whatever the weather, recreation and retail are available 12 months a year at Dream Island. Guests can also stroll through its wide aisles unencumbered by bulky outdoor clothing thanks to what is claimed to be the largest coat check in the world.

Before they get to the theme park, visitors must pass through the shopping mall at the front of the building. The architectural facades, including replicas of the Colosseum in Rome and Gaudi’s ‘House of Bones’ in Barcelona, were also inspired by two mixed-use developments in Los Angeles, The Grove and Americana at Brand.

“The idea was not to do another shopping mall, because we are full of shopping malls [in Moscow],” says Scholl. “We wanted to create streets replicating different areas of the world. All under the glass roof so, regardless of the time of year, people can enjoy natural light.”

Urban regeneration and a new era of entertainment 

Walking distance from the Tekhnopark metro station and 10 minutes drive from the Kremlin, Dream Island is located inside Moscow’s third ring road, set on a bend of the Moskva River.

“The location is very good,” says Scholl, who began his career in the amusement industry at the Russian ride manufacturer Pax back in 2007. “When we were selecting the site, southeast of the centre, Universal Studios Moscow was announced, located on the same route but further out of the city.”

The Universal project seems unlikely to happen any time soon. The capital does already have some family entertainment centres and small outdoor amusement parks. Yet nothing on the world-class scale strived for at Dream Island. Themed projects are still few and far between in Russia, says Scholl. He cites Sochi Park, built for the Winter Olympics in 2014, as one of the few exceptions.

A strong vision for Dream Island

Phil Taylor from Team Leisure worked with the development team at Dream Island during the project’s early days:

“From the beginning, they had a strong vision to create a unique indoor park anchored by a range of international movie-based IP,” he says. “Given the complex licensing negotiations required to deliver that vision, it’s great that they’ve been able to pull it off, in such difficult market conditions.”

The theme park at the heart of Dream Island was designed by Cuningham in the USA, whose previous credits include projects for Disney and Universal. Land Milano provided landscaping, whilst guest throughput was calculated by the Italian company MIC (Mobility In Chain). Theming was provided by Russian companies including Iolla and Art Berendeevo Studio.

In total, Dream Island features around 35, rides, shows and attractions. Thrill-seekers can get their coaster fix on Shred The Sewers from Intamin , as seen in action above. This 559m long and 25m high LSM launch coaster features four inversions and reaches a top speed of 80km/h as it races through a New York City landscape inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise.

Also featured in this area of the park are Baxter Stockman’s Hammer of Doom (SBF/Visa swing ride) and Kraang Prime’s Abyss (Fabbri freefall tower).

A second roller coaster is located in the Dream Race area. Named Race Of The Future, the spinning ‘mouse’ style ride by Fabbri features added VR content. Close by, Dream Grand Prix features 20 drivable cars by SB International.

One of the largest concentration of rides is within Mowgli In Dino Land. The selection here includes a Suspended Top Spin ( Huss Park Attractions ), Sky Fly (Gerstlauer), Cobra ( Zamperla Disk’O), City of Monkeys (Zamperla Magic Bikes) and Lianas ( Sunkid interactive tower).

Opening soon will be a flying theatre called On The Wings of the Wind. This will feature a 72-seat Movie Base XS system from Huss, supported by AV from Kraftwerk Living Technologies (KLT).

KLT was also responsible for the 4D theatre Snow Queens Library. Twirling its passengers over the same area of the park is the Ice Carousel (wave swinger) by Preston & Barbieri. The Italian manufacturer also supplied a teacup style ride called Sweet Carousel. This is located in the Hello Kitty area, together with a children’s beauty parlour.

In Smurfs Village, families can walk between colourful giant toadstools as they seek out attractions including a custom-themed Polyp from Gerstlauer and Gargamel’s Tower – as seen above. Based on the evil wizard of the same name, this features an enclosed Drop ’n’ Twist tower ride from SBF/Visa with added interactive elements from Lagotronics Projects .

Dark ride and holographic shows

Opened this spring, Hotel Transylvania is the first large scale dark ride of its kind in Russia. The attraction had been due to debut along with the rest of Dream Island last year but was ultimately delayed by the pandemic.

Unable to enter Russia for several months, representatives of ETF Ride Systems and animatronic specialist Heimotion had to commission the ride under remote supervision. The results are worth the wait, says Scholl, and it’s quickly become one of the park’s most popular attractions. 

“There’s no height limit, anyone can do this. We wanted to create not only a ride but a story, starting from the moment you enter the castle. There is continuously something happening around you, immersing you into the haunted theme. The ride itself lasts about three minutes. But together with the pre-show, you receive something like 10 minutes of entertainment.”

Holographics are used in two of the park’s shows, featuring the characters Buratino and Mowgli respectively.

Dream Island’s attendance goals

In addition to the theming, lighting, colour and sound provide each area of the theme park with its own ambience.

When repeat visitors to the theme park, shopping mall and supporting facilities are taken into account – and the pandemic has subsided – Dream Island is expected to generate as many as 70 million visits a year. Or 7.5 million for the theme park alone.

Daily capacity is currently capped at under 50%, but attendance has come close on several occasions. Helping swell the numbers were the roughly 300,000 medical workers who have enjoyed free park admission over the past year.

“We were doing relatively good numbers until the second [COVID] wave came,” says Scholl. “Now we are recovering quite well. I am not sure about attendance by the end of the year. What we can say is we will not be the top in Europe, but we will appear in some charts.”

Tweaking the ticketing

In February, the park introduced a new pricing system. This replaced the previous fixed price model, which worked out at around $150 for a family of four. “They were not ready to spend this money without knowing the product,” says Scholl.

Now guests can choose from an all-day ticket, a premium fast pass option, or an entrance ticket/card, on which can they pay for rides or upgrade as they go. The system was provided by Infomatika, which provides metro/subway ticketing in various Russian cities and also worked on the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The entrance card is available for just 500 rubles ($6.85), or 700 rubles ($9.50) at weekends. This has significantly increased footfall inside the park. Buyers of these tickets do not do as many rides as those who buy the all-day option. But they do come back.

“We are learning,” says Scholl – and so are his guests. “This market is not like the UK, Germany or France. “They are not used to queues , and they do not understand rides in ‘boxes’. They are used to flat rides, where you can first see the experience and then pay for it.”

Dream Island’s expansion plans

Scholl describes Dream Island’s overall ride offering as “family thrill ”. To address a lack of attractions for those between 0.9 and 1.1 metres in height, management has already begun adding rides. This includes an evergreen that was missing from the line-up at launch: bumper cars.

Scholl won’t give a firm date for the expansion of the park’s outdoor area. However, it would be understandable if plans were derailed somewhat by the pandemic.

“At the moment we are in pre-masterplan, working with our art director to define the rides and spaces. We see the necessity to build demand during warmer periods. We would like to offer more thrilling attractions to widen the audience to teenagers and young adults.”

What about Amiran Mutsoev’s plans, reported elsewhere, to develop further theme parks and entertainment facilities elsewhere in Russia? “Let us first build this expansion,” says Scholl.

1. Skolkovo Golf Club Course

Skolkovo Golf Club  has one of the finest Golf course in Russia.

Legendary American Golfer Jack Nicklaus designed this Russian Golf course.

The sprawling greens at this course have many lakes and bunkers providing ample challenge to Golfers from all over the World.

2. Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club Course

Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club Course  situated at picturesque forest area 42 km north from Moscow is another fine Russian course.

5. Moscow Country Club Course

The Moscow Country Club Course  is the best-known Golf course in Russia.

Situated outside Moscow, it offers 300 acres of beautiful Golfing greens.

The signature is a 576-yard par five 5th.

This course deserves special mention, as it put Russia on the Golfing map of the world.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive,very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More
