The Atlantis Yacht: Your School’s Best Option for Prom and After Prom!

Even as the years pass by, prom continues to be one of the most memorable traditions of a teen’s high school experience. It’s a rite of passage that’s been memorialized in our favorite movies and that offers glimpses into a life of romance and luxury.

As a school, there are many different ways to host prom and many venues to choose from in the New York City area. But one of the most unique, safe, and exciting options is to book your prom or an after prom cruise NYC on a beautiful luxury yacht!

Here are some of the many benefits of hiring the Atlantis for your school’s prom or after prom party, as well as prom planning ideas for the ultimate New York Harbor event.

Prom on the Water

Many people only think of yacht cruises for weddings and corporate events, but they’re actually an excellent choice for young crowds looking to dance and party too. The Atlantis, New York’s premier luxury yacht can accommodate up to 300 guests and can seat up to 210 for dinner with the dance floor. If you prefer a buffet style dinner, we can make that happen for up to 210 guests as well.

Of course, the dance floor is the most important place in any prom venue, and the one onboard the Atlantis is absolutely stunning. Check out our photo album to see what we mean!

We have a professional full event serving staff onboard for proms so your school’s staff and volunteers and relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the NYC skyline. We’ll let you pick out the colors for your table linens and napkins so you can celebrate your school in style. No prom is complete without decorations, and we’d love to design a festive space that’s full of school spirit or the theme of your choice. Our professional catering service is second to none, and we’re happy to offer hors d’oeuvres, a custom-picked menu, a desert table, and freshly brewed coffee and tea.

After Prom Cruise NYC

If your school has already committed to a prom venue, then consider planning an after-prom cruise NYC to really treat your students and provide them with a safe and fun option to enjoy with friends. We can set up a non-alcoholic “mock-tail” bar for your students with booze-free versions of classic and tasty cocktail recipes. Our bar also has a wide variety of assorted juices, sodas, Shirley Temples, and sparkling mineral water to keep everyone hydrated and refreshed after hours of showing off their best moves on the dance floor.

We can incorporate any post-prom theme you like on your luxury yacht, and just think about the amazing photo ops! This is a place where your students can dance all night to their favorite songs, party in style, and create a night they’ll never forget.

Prom Planning Ideas Made Easy

Not only is booking your prom event on the Atlantis fun and exciting, but it also makes planning easy for the prom committee, faculty, administrators, and parents. This is because the New York Cruises team doesn’t just own a boat, but we’re professional event planners too!

We know what it takes to throw an unforgettable prom and turn your prom planning ideas into the most-talked-about event of the year. We have dockage options in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Yonkers, so this is an amazing option for schools all across the region!

So, give us a call at 718-646-8083 or email us at [email protected] to tell us about your vision for prom and learn more about our exciting prom package options.

Skyline Cruises

Our Guide to Your NYC Prom Cruise

April 4, 2019 by Skyline Cruises

party guests

The Skyline Princess is Perfect for Your Prom

Seventeen Magazine recently came out with a list of hot prom themes for 2019 and a cruise ship theme was prominent on the list. In fact, there were several water-related themes including “Under the Sea,” for the movie buffs. But why recreate a cruise ship in a high school gym or a catering hall when you can have a real cruise ship? When you book a prom with Skyline Cruises, you can charter our 3-deck luxury yacht, the Skyline Princess.

We have the most stunning backdrop you could want for prom night. As you cruise past the Manhattan skyline, you’ll view iconic structures such as the Empire State Building and United Nations. You can dance on our Skylight deck as it passes under the Brooklyn Bridge. The topmost Skylight deck can be open-air or enclosed, and our entire ship is climate-controlled for all-weather comfort.

What could be a more memorable keepsake than prom photos by the Statue of Liberty? The Skyline Princess provides our guests with a close-up view of Lady Liberty and we have viewing decks on all levels of the ship so you will be sure to capture once-in-a-lifetime photos.

Skyline Cruises Can Provide the Atmosphere You Want

These days, it’s more important than ever to consider the atmosphere of your prom. Skyline Cruises is sensitive to those needs and we’re proud to provide a welcoming atmosphere that will allow for proper supervision of your school’s students. Even if you don’t book a prom with us, consider the Skyline Princess for an after-party. You’ll know that they’re in a safe, alcohol-free zone.

Whatever event you set up is going to be fun. The Skyline Princess will deliver the fun atmosphere of an adult dance club. We will work with you to provide the theme you want. For instance, depending on the size of your class, we can reserve a full deck for fun activities such as a casino night, carnival, or a luau. We welcome performers such as magicians and dancers to spice up your prom.

Booking Your Prom with Skyline Cruises

Booking a prom aboard the Skyline Princess is quite convenient. Our full ship charters leave from our home port located at the World’s Fair Marina, in Flushing Queens. Parking is plentiful and always free. Full ship charters can depart from ports elsewhere on Long Island, Manhattan, New Jersey, Westchester, and Connecticut. If you’re planning a smaller event such as an after party, we can offer a private deck charter on a public cruise. To learn more about our prom packages or to book your prom today, give the event planners at Skyline Princess cruises a call at (718) 446-1100 or use the form to contact us today !

MANHATTAN, N.Y. — St. Peter's Boys High School students celebrated their senior prom on Friday night aboard the World Yacht at Pier 81 in Manhattan.

Approximately 94 couples boarded the "Duchess" yacht docked along the Hudson River for a four-hour party at sea.

GRAND ENTRANCE : St. Peter's Boys students and their dates pulled up in stretch limousines between 7 and 7:30 p.m. After posing for photos along the docks, attendees made their way onto the ship and set sail at around 8 p.m.

BEST DRESSED : Every student was swaggin,' but we've got to give credit to the first couples who pulled up to the boat. Nabi Mwesiga and Miles Calame were rocking sharp, slim-fit suits that complimented their dates' Gia Esposito and Alexis Bourdon red and whites gowns.

New Standard Academy celebrates prom on a yacht

Family members snap photographs with their cell phones of seniors Ihron Wilborn, left, and Shawntella Triplett as nearly two dozen New Standard Academy students showed up in their finest threads at the school on Flint's north side on Saturday, May 14 before heading to the Infinity Yacht in St. Clair Shores in the Safe Harbor Jefferson Beach Marina for dinner and dancing at ÒA Starry NightÓ theme prom. The duo arrived together and were also named prom king and queen. ÒIt feels so good. Yeah, IÕm No. 1,Ó Triplett said with a laugh. ÒIt just feels good. I feel accomplished. I feel like I deserve this, to be able to be prom queen. I am just happy.Ó (Jake May | MLive.com

How to Plan the Ultimate High School Prom Cruise on a Yacht

If you are a high school junior or senior, a parent, or a faculty member you obviously want your prom night to a memorable one. Successful proms are the end result of months of hard work. Here are some steps you can take to ensure that a SF prom night is fantastic.

When the prom committee begins planning they should divide into groups that are responsible for various planning aspects of the prom party. School administrators should require that the committee heads provide a detailed work schedule of who will be working along with time frames for completing the work.

Choosing a theme can be a sticky subject because there are different opinions. The best way is to vote among the students. Ask the student body for theme suggestions over a period of a couple of days. Once that period has ended, the suggestions can be placed up for a vote. Themes are often picked based on a favorite song. The administration should have the ability to veto any inappropriate themes before they are put to a vote.

A SF prom cruise is a great option since the yachts are already beautifully decorated. The San Francisco prom cruise allows students to save money on decorations that either makes the tickets less expensive or puts additional funds towards the food or dessert program.

Typically much of the fundraising is done ahead of time. There are many fundraising opportunities including car washes, magazine subscriptions, bake sales, candles, raffles, dinners, and benefit concerts. Since schools must stay within a budget the prom cruise is a great way to keep costs in control. Yachtsf.com has fixed cost prom party options so you can easily sell tickets knowing that the budget will not be a problem.

Most prom cruises include a DJ but if you want to bring your own be sure that you hire one who has a good reputation for playing great music. If you want to try a new DJ, have them DJ with an experienced DJ to avoid any problems! Your photographer should also be experienced and reliable so they are on time and have the correct equipment.

A San Francisco Bay prom cruise allows free chaperones and usually also includes security. Security can be provided by the school or the private company yachtsf.com works with. Your SF prom party will be a wonderful night to have fun and enjoy your last celebration as a class together.

Lastly, most schools begin planning their proms a year in advance. There is a limited amount of yachts available on the San Francisco Bay so the schools that plan early have their pick of yacht and date. Yachtsf.com says that they begin getting prom calls in April and May a year ahead of the prom. Since most prom cruises are in April or May there is limited availability so call soon to begin the reservation process.

Chicago Yacht Rentals for Post-Prom Events

Prom night is one of those magical nights that seem to go by too fast. After spending all that time, money, and effort for a social event that is a highlight of high school years, it would be a shame to spend just a few hours dancing and celebrating with friends only to call it a night. But other post-prom activities aren’t necessarily the safest, let alone the perfect way to end an enchanted evening.

If you or your teen are looking for a post-prom event that is as extraordinary as the prom itself, nothing could be better than a late-night cruise on a luxury yacht. As Chicago’s premier yacht charter company , Anita Dee Yacht Charters offers a supervised environment for groups of up to 400 to enjoy views of Chicago’s historic skyline and the feel of the fresh breeze blowing in off the water.

Anita Dee Yacht Charters’s private yachts have every amenity imaginable for outstanding food, entertainment, and celebrating. By booking your private post-prom celebration aboard a Anita Dee Yacht Charters yacht, you get access to our talented team of hospitality specialists, as well as a dynamic venue.

And we are ready to discuss your budget and vision for a one-of-a-kind post-prom event. For an initial consultation, contact our event coordinator today at (312) 379-3191.

Set Sail on One of Our Yachts

At Anita Dee Yacht Charters, we have two yachts for you to choose from when planning a private post-prom party. The glamorous Anita Dee I is named after our owner Mr. Tony Difiglio’s wife, Anita.

Tony and Anita began their yacht charter business with this vessel, adding the larger Anita II to the yacht fleet as the company grew. The impressive Anita Dee II is named after the couple’s daughter, Anita Difiglio, Jr.

Four decades after beginning this journey in the yacht charter business, Anita Dee Yacht Charters has set the standard for Chicago luxury private yacht cruises with our exceptional experience and unparalleled customer service. And our hospitality specialists are just as dedicated as ever to helping our clients plan everything from extravagant weddings to cozy brunches.

Our smaller boat, the Anita Dee I , is a 90-foot long vessel that can host up to 135 passengers, making it the perfect space for your smaller group to gather. Offering the most exquisite cuisine, this two-storied yacht has a bar and dining area on both levels. After a late-night bite to eat, head out to the deck to take in the skyline by starlight. A post-prom event on the Anita Dee I will undoubtedly dazzle and delight you and your guests.

At 140-feet in length, the Anita Dee II can host as many as 400 guests at a time.  With three levels, this luxury craft is large enough to boast a helicopter pad, a formal dining area, a piano lounge, and a large observation deck with ample room for enjoying views of the river. This magnificent yacht can comfortably accommodate large groups while still offering an intimate setting.

Anchored in the heart of downtown Chicago, our two yachts offer customers the excitement of being on the open water paired with high-quality service. And when you book with Anita Dee Yacht Charters, you won’t have to worry about sharing the craft with another party. Every event we host is an entirely private occasion, so you or your teen can have an exclusive post-prom gathering.

Cruise the Night Away

Make prom night even more special by boarding one of our two private yachts and cruising the river. At Anita Dee Yacht Charters, we provide a nautical affair that offers music, more dancing, and the most exceptional food from preferred caterers to fuel the fun.

Prom on Boat (Yay!) Take a Bus (Boo!)

By Jack Cavanaugh

Prom on Boat (Yay!) Take a Bus (Boo!)

NEARLY everyone in the senior class at Ridgefield High School thought it was a fine idea when the senior prom committee decided to hold this year's prom aboard a cruise ship on the Connecticut River.

Nearly everyone in the senior class thought it was a bad idea when school authorities said the students would have to travel to and from the prom by bus.

Petitions and other appeals failed to sway the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David Larson, and the Board of Education, which voted 5 to 3 in favor of mandatory busing to the prom site. As a result, when the prom is held this Friday, nearly 400 Ridgefield High students will make the trip to Haddam in 10 coach buses, at the students' expense.

''For weeks most of the kids were livid about having to take buses, rather than go by car or limo,'' said the president of the student council, Paul Miller. ''We know that they're concerned about drinking and driving, but we still feel that whether we went by car, limo or bus was something that should be decided between us and our parents, and not by the superintendent and the school board.''

Dr. Larson said he recommended that buses be required based on advice from the school board's attorney, John Sabanosh. ''Our position was that because of the distance involved and the fact that the prom was being held on the water and in a remote area, a higher standard of care for the students was necessary,'' Dr. Larson said.

But the chairman of the senior prom committee, Caroline Ward, said most seniors felt that the distance, about 60 miles, did not warrant the use of buses. ''We timed it during several car trips to Haddam, and it took about an hour and 20 minutes,'' she said. ''That's only about a half-hour longer than it takes to get to the Italian Center in Stamford, where last year's senior prom was held.''

Mr. Miller said the prom should have been treated like a sports event. ''We're allowed to drive to all away games that our teams play,'' he said, ''so I see no reason why we couldn't drive to the prom.''

One of three school board members who voted against the busing, Martha Campbell, said she thought the ruling was unreasonable. ''I would prefer that my own son, who is graduating, go by limousine rather than drive,'' Mrs. Campbell said, ''but I think the kids and their parents should have been allowed to make their own decisions.''

''I think the board was being overly conservative on the matter,'' she said.

For a while, some graduating seniors tried to scuttle the prom proposal. ''A lot of the kids were really outraged and wanted to call off the prom,'' said the president of the senior class, Amy Nitsos. ''Some put up drawings of a boat with the slogan 'Sink the Ship.' But most of them have come around to realizing that it was pointless to keep complaining.''

Holding a four-and-a-half-hour prom aboard a 400-passenger 150-foot vessel is expensive. Rental of the ship, the Camelot, is about $24,000, Miss Nitsos said. She said that the charge for each promgoer was $61.80, and that it included dinner and entertainment, along with the three-hour cruise. The buses are expected to cost about $3,500.

However, students attending the prom will not have to bear all of the costs. A fee of $95 has been set for each couple, which includes both the prom and the bus trip. Mr. Miller said the balance of the expenses would come from $10,000 in the senior class account, donations from a number of school-related groups and proceeds from a car wash that was held last Sunday. In addition, he said, the prom committee was seeking donations from corporations and merchants in the Ridgefield area.

The water, though not boats, will also figure in several other senior-class festivities in Fairfield County. In Westport, several community organizations will sponsor a free party for graduating seniors at the new Compo Beach pavilion after the class prom in Stamford on June 17. The party, which will be held from 1:30 to 6 A.M. at the town beach, is the outgrowth of a report by a town committee that alcohol and drug use by students at Staples High in Stamford was far above the national average.

In Darien, a parents' group will again sponsor both indoor and beach parties after the June 20 commencement exercises at Darien High School. First, a post-graduation party that will include a buffet, music and a variety of prizes will be held from 10:30 P.M. until 3 A.M. at the Canongate Restaurant in Norwalk. Then from 3 to 6 A.M. a party that will include entertainment, additional prizes and breakfast will be held at Weed Beach. The cost for each student is $23.

For the 15th year in a row, a parents' group will stage a free party for seniors at Waveny Castle in Waveny Park in New Canaan, after the high school prom Friday. The party, which runs from 1 to 5:30 A.M., includes entertainment, dancing, a Las Vegas night, a fortune teller, prizes and breakfast. ''Usually, about 90 percent of the seniors show up, including a lot who don't go to the prom,'' said a spokeswoman for the parents' group, Pamela McCusker.

Taking a cue from neighboring Ridgefield, a parents' group in Wilton will hold a post-graduation party for the first time on June 23 at the Middlebrook Middle School from 10:30 P.M. until daybreak. Food and games of chance, a disk jockey, dancing and various other forms of entertainment will be offered to Wilton High graduates in a party that will end with breakfast. There will be no charge. Donations are covering the cost of the party.

The Wilton party is modeled after one that has been held after the Ridgefield High graduation for the last four years. The Ridgefield party has drawn an average of 85 percent of the school's graduates each year, according to June Hume, the co-chairwoman of this year's event, which will be held from 9 P.M. to 3 A.M. at the Parks and Recreation building after commencement exercises June 22.

The Ridgefield post-graduation parties were begun as the result of a hit-and-run accident that killed a Ridgefield teen-ager shortly after he had left a graduation party June 13, 1983. The driver of the car was a classmate of the victim, who had attended the same party.

In every instance, parents' groups sponsoring post-prom or post-graduation parties said they hoped to have graduates celebrate in an alcohol-free environment.

''We've been holding our post-graduation parties for years, and we've proven to the kids that they can have a great time without drinking,'' said Ann Barton, a co-chairwoman of the parents' post-graduation party committee in Darien.

With its new tailpipe rules, the EPA eyes an electric future

Automakers back the tighter emissions regulation, which climate advocates welcome but feel "falls far short of what is needed.".

Heat waves emanate from the exhaust pipe of a bus as it passes an American flag.

Transportation is the largest source of planet-warming gases in the United States, which makes reducing tailpipe pollution as quickly as possible essential to meeting our climate goals. The Biden administration took a huge stride toward that goal Wednesday when it unveiled the tightest limits the nation has ever placed on vehicle emissions.

The rule, which follows three years of deliberation among regulators, automakers, and others, places increasingly stringent standards on the amount of CO2 and other pollutants cars can emit. The goal is to further electrify the country’s fleet through 2032, when President Biden hopes to see every other car sold be electric or a plug-in hybrid.

“Three years ago, I set an ambitious target: that half of all new cars and trucks sold in 2030 would be zero-emission,” Biden said in a statement posted on social media . “Together, we’ve made historic progress. Hundreds of new expanded factories across the country. Hundreds of billions in private investment and thousands of good-paying union jobs. And we’ll meet my goal by 2030 and race forward in the years ahead.”

The guideline, which takes effect with the 2027 model year, drew support from automakers and the leader of one industry trade group appeared with Michael Regan, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, as he announced the regulation. Standing alongside gleaming chargers and spotless electric vehicles — underscoring the point of the new rule — Regan called the regulation “the strongest vehicle pollution technology standard ever finalized in United States history.”

Should the regulation survive the inevitable legal challenges — Louisiana’s Republican attorney general told the New York Times she plans to fight it in court — it will avoid more than 7 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next 30 years, according to the EPA. Those gains will inevitably boost public health as well.

“EPA just took a critical step to address climate change and reduce air pollution,” Harold Wimmer, president and CEO of the American Lung Association, said in a statement . “Stronger limits on pollution from cars, pickups, and SUVs will improve the air that everyone breathes and help prevent future health harms from climate change.”

How automakers meet the new guideline is up to them, as the rule is agnostic of the technologies they use to do so. Despite fearmongering from some corners of society and a specious warning from a fossil fuel trade group that the rule is an “ EPA car ban ,” EVs are but one approach. Plug-in hybrids and increasingly efficient internal combustion engines are other options, as the regulation only requires automakers to meet increasingly strict average emission limits across their entire product lines.

Still, the industry has made a major push into electrification and sold a record 1.2 million EVs last year. Sales slowed in recent months, however, and the new regulation will require a tenfold increase in sales within eight years. John Bozzella, president and CEO of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, called that a “stretch goal” but said Wednesday, “The future is electric.”

The EPA’s standard is less aggressive than what was included when it proposed the rules in April , a concession the Biden administration made to automakers and the United Auto Workers. Manufacturers worried the original pace was too fast, and workers worried about job security . Electric vehicles tend to have fewer parts — meaning fewer people are needed on assembly lines — and many factories are located in right-to-work states hostile to organized labor.

“I know I’ve been a thorn in your side this last year,” Bozzella, whose organization represents 42 automakers and industry suppliers, told Regan from the stage during Wednesday’s event. “But it’s only because automakers are committed to electrification, and we want this transformation to EVs — our shared goal, by the way — to succeed over the long haul.”

Tempering the guideline will likely lead to a slower near-term ramp up in vehicle electrification, but the final rule nonetheless positions the sector to see EVs account for 67 percent of sales by 2032, according to a memo from the Alliance for Automotive Innovation.

While climate advocates by and large applauded the new guideline, many felt the Biden administration should have acted more aggressively.

“This rule falls far short of what is needed to protect public health and our planet,” Chelsea Hodgkins, a senior policy advocate with Public Citizen, said in a statement. The organization issued a report noting the vast resources the industry expended to weaken the rule, and said, “EPA is giving automakers a pass to continue producing polluting vehicles.”

The Union of Concerned Scientists also expressed disappointment, noting that “the science is clear on both the urgent need to cut climate-endangering emissions and the fact that we can make the cuts we need. We don’t have many opportunities to reduce transportation pollution, and it’s disappointing that this rule falls short of what’s possible.”

Still, any slack that may come from the federal effort may be picked up by the states. California plans to ban the sale of new internal combustion vehicles by 2035. Eight states have followed suit, pointing the way toward what is possible.
