James B .Robinson, III

President & Founder

Mr. Robinson has spent his whole life on boats and around boat yards. He was raised by a father who was a meticulous engineer and a grandfather that was exceptional at finance. Spending his childhood with these two gentleman repairing and maintaining the three Hatteras’s they owned Mr. Robinson garnered an enormous amount of knowledge and skill in yachting. By the age of nine Mr. Robinson was already skilled at piloting and docking the boats his family owned.

Mr. Robinson decided after high school and a brief stint in college that he was destined for the Yacht Service Industry. He returned to his roots in Solomons Island, Maryland and took a position as Dockmaster at Zahnizer’s Marina. Wanting to further his career and to learn more about the supply side of the business he took a position with Fawcett Boat Supply in Annapolis, Maryland. Here Mr. Robinson excelled in the acquisition side of the business. While working at Fawcett’s’ Mr. Robinson made several business connections that took him to newer heights. Mr. Robinson left Fawcett’s and accepted an offer from The Hinckley Company as Purchasing Manager for their operation in Oxford, Maryland. From there he landed a position with rival and renowned boat builder, Ellis Boat Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine. At Ellis Mr. Robinson was able to be a part of the whole process of making a custom built yacht. From mold prep, hand laying hull to sea trials of a custom 36 foot Lobster Yacht. He was also fortunate to work with some of the most skilled custom yacht craftsmen in the country. From there Mr. Robinson moved a bit further south to Portland Maine working with Maine Yacht Center. This yard gave Mr. Robinson the opportunity manage service on yachts from 40’ to 120’. They also built and prepped class 40 boats for trans-Atlantic races. 

Now Mr. Robinson has his own yacht repair yard in Charleston South Carolina. Where he and his team are working to provide world class service in a timely manner from Murrells Inlet to Hilton Head island. Robinson Yacht, “we do it right”.

As any local Charlestonian will tell you, don't let our weather forecasts fool you into missing out on a gorgeous charter or beautiful sunset! Our weather forecasts call for a 30-50% chance of rain nearly every day! If it does rain, it is usually only for a short period during a pop-up shower.

01 Will I get seasick?

Since we stay inside the harbor, protected from larger waves of the open sea, it is unlikely that you would get seasick. The water is calm and the boats are only subjected to large waves created by other boats. Concerned passengers could bring products that contain ginger, such as ginger cookers, or Ginger Ale because they have been known to help calm an upset stomach. Be sure to start taking ginger or any other sea-sickness medications the day before your charter for the best results. We recommend you stay away from the drowsy kinds. Recommendations are provided for informational purposes only. Please consult your physician with any questions regarding a medical condition.

02 Are your yachts safe?

Yes! Our yachts are clean, well-maintained, and fully insured for charter. All of our vessels meet or exceed safety requirements by the United States Coast Guard with onboard equipment that includes Type 1 Personal Flotation Devices (life jackets) for every passenger, an approved Sound Producing Device, fire extinguishers, flares, a VHF radio, & an approved throwable ring buoy. They also meet equipment, operation, and pollution prevention regulations established by the Coast Guard. Vessel Captains possess a valid license issued by the U. S. Coast Guard and undergo random drug screenings.

03 Can I bring more than 6 passengers?

Yes, on our Motor Yacht Kismet, which has been specifically designed to carry up to 23 passengers. You will find 23 to be pretty tight, we recommend keeping the maximum passenger count to under 20. 

The sailing yachts both are limited to 6 passengers, however, you can rent boat sailboats and take 12, having 6 on each boat.

04 Do children or infants count as a passenger?

Yes, they do. The United States Coast Guard considers every person, except for the Captain and crew as a passenger. Children require supervision by parents or guardians at all times and must be capable of remaining calmly seated for several hours. If you are bringing younger children, we recommend a charter length of no longer than 2 hours.
