Welcome to Seacoast Training School ; based in Beaumaris, Anglesey we offer a range RYA training courses to equip you with the skills required to safely and competently handle your power boat.
At Seacoast Training all our in-house instructors are professional skippers working in the commercial environment.
As well as instructing RYA training courses our day to day work includes running pleasure cruises and wildlife safaris, operating the pilot boat service, diving charters and more. So be assured you will be instructed by a maritime professional who has not just been taught to teach.
Set in stunning surroundings with the Snowdonia mountain range as our backdrop, the Menai Strait provides a perfect environment to learn with lots of examples of navigational buoys, piers and moorings; with tidal currents, but sheltered from the exposed open sea. It really is the perfect area to experience a great variety of conditions under safe instruction.

RYA Powerboat Level One
Start powerboating.
This course is an introduction to boating techniques including launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.
RYA Powerboat Level Two
Powerboat handling.
This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC).

RYA VHF - Marine Radio SRC
The RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required to operate marine VHF radio equipment on a UK flagged vessel. This includes both fixed and handheld equipment with and without Digital Selective Calling (DSC).
RYA First Aid
Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.
RYA Powerboat Level 2
This practical two day course follows the RYA syllabus and is the perfect introduction to driving powerboats. It is also the minimum requirement for anybody looking to join the Marine Club .
The two-day introduction to powerboating will provide you with the background knowledge and basic skills necessary to drive powerboats safely in coastal waters. It will cover close quarter boat handling, before introducing driving at planning speed. The majority of the course will be spent afloat.
Course content includes:
- Launch and recovery
- Boat handling (at low and high speed)
- Securing a buoy
- Leaving and coming alongside
- Man overboard
- Basic theory including engine maintenance, chart work, collision regulations, tides and weather
Useful Information
Minimum Standard: No previous experience is necessary, but candidates must be of a sound physical condition
Minimum Age: 16yrs (under 18yr olds will only be accepted onto the course if they are accompanied by an adult on the same course)
International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
If you want to be able to drive boats aboard legally, you must hold the ICC. On successful completion of your course you can apply for an ICC via the RYA website. It is free for RYA members, otherwise there is a small charge for the issue of the ICC.
