The Seattle dealership is located on Westlake Avenue on Lake Union, in a fantastic new building with its own moorage basin out the back door. Ironically, this is the exact location where Jim and Jeanna started the company nearly 40 years ago! The Anacortes facilities were in operation for over 26 years. However, in 2020 they closed the Anacortes locations and re-located the Yacht Sales Office to Bellingham. The new Bellingham dealership is located off Roeder Ave on Squalicum Harbor.

With over 25 years of experience in the boating industry, Dan brings a wealth of knowledge to the sales department. His extensive boating and marine industry experience combined with his degree in Aerospace Engineering and Naval Architecture studies gives him good balance in many facets of boat buying/ selling, handling, design and construction.

Dan has a passion for boating and has sailed most of his life. He holds several American Sailing Association instructor certifications and had a US Coast Guard Masters license. From daysailing to bareboat chartering to performance racing, Dan has taught hundreds of adults and juniors the sport of sailing. He has organized numerous sailing events, cruising functions, race series, and is currently the chair for the Mark Meyer Opening Day Regatta at the Seattle Yacht Club. Dan and his wife Lisa are both sailing enthusiasts. Besides campaigning their J/22 “Bullet” throughout the race season, they enjoy cruising and chartering around the world. Dan has lived, worked, and sailed throughout the Caribbean, Midwest, New England, and the Pacific Northwest. He has extensive charter, racing, and cruising experience on a wide variety of yachts.

Boating in the Northwest became more than just sailing for Dan when Marine Servicenter became the American Tug dealer in 2004. Dan’s experience with trawler style powerboats includes customer training and several deliveries on American Tugs and other trawlers. Most recently Dan and his wife Lisa cruised an American Tug 435 from Sitka to Ketchikan Alaska and then later from Sullivan Bay to Anacortes.

Dan has been a member of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA) since 2000 and has been a NYBA Board Member since 2009 moving to the Executive Committee serving as Secretary in 2010 and Vice President in 2011 & 2012. Dan is also the chair of the NYBA Grow Boating Committee. Past NYBA committees have included the Boat Show Committee, Joint NMTA/ NYBA Sailing Committee, and Grow Boating Committee. He is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) since 2004 and has been recognized by Jeanneau, Tartan, & Hunter on several occasions for outstanding performance.

Dan is an industry leader attending International Dealer meetings for several brands, Regional, National, & International Boat Shows, and has many contacts in the marine industry nationwide with manufacturers, dealers, and brokers to compare experiences and share knowledge with.

Jeff has been passionate about boating from an early age, learning to sail on the shores of Lake Erie at age 14. This love of the water, has led to years of racing dinghies and keel boats of all sizes in Ohio, Florida, and the PNW including trips up & down the inside passage to Alaska.

Doug, a Seattle native and UW Grad, grew up sailing the Salish Sea and is a lifelong member of the maritime community. At sixteen, John and a friend impulsively pooled their money and bought a beat-up Hobie Beach Cat. It ignited a life-long journey for all things sailing and maritime. That beat-up cat was only the first of many boats, from racing dinghies to blue water cruisers. John is grateful to have boating in his life. Jeff started sailing at age 3 in San Francisco Bay with his brother. He has raced and sailed in the Med, crossed the Atlantic, sailed extensively in the Caribbean, took his boat through the Panama Canal, and raced and cruised in LA, San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest. Don grew up in the Columbia River port town of Ilwaco, WA. During his college years at WWU in Bellingham, he worked for the Port of Ilwaco and in the oyster industry on Willapa Bay. He learned to sport fish at the mouth of the Columbia before becoming a commercial fisherman in S.E. Alaska and Puget Sound. He was a skipper in the Whitney Fidalgo fleet and made five round trips on the inside passage between Bellingham and Icy Straits.

Hailing from Alaska, Bradley grew up around boats, beginning with lakes and then on Prince William Sound where the family had a 30’ Californian, The Great Escape. Years later, he experienced those same waters aboard the 53’ Delta Marine, Purse Seiner, F/V Alaskan Spirit, fishing for salmon out of Valdez. An obsession with waterskiing, despite the cold waters of Alaska, entailed many hours on and behind an assortment of water ski boats, over the years. This passion continued post college and after a short stint of competition skiing, in Florida, he joined Sea World of Texas, performing in water ski shows there. An offer to perform at a show in Germany allowed him to explore Europe. It was in Portofino, Italy, where he learned that many yachts cross the Atlantic to get to the warmer climes of the Caribbean, at the end of the Mediterranean Summer. He decided to forgo his plane ticket home and joined a classic 12 meter, Seven Seas, racing in the late summer classic series, held in various ports around the Med. After that he joined the ketch, Oceana, a 71’ Ocean, to sail across the Atlantic, to Antigua. That crossing gave Bradley the true taste of blue water sailing and he spent the next few years racing and delivering boats around the world. A trip across the Pacific allowed him to discover the beauty of New Zealand, where he jumped ship and for the next 17 years made the mountain town of Queenstown, his home.  Bradley now lives in Los Angeles, close to Marina del Rey, where he and his wife, Kismet, enjoy exploring Santa Monica Bay, on Saida, a Jeanneau 349, that they sailed down from San Francisco together, Bradley’s favorite passage of all. Mike is an avid sailor with over forty years of sailing experience up and down the Pacific coast from Canada to Mexico, along with sailing to Hawaii and around the Caribbean. Mike has 27 years of experience commissioning and servicing Jeanneau sailboats along with American and other European-built sailboat and powerboat lines. He has built and managed service departments in San Diego, Marina Del Rey, and Alameda, CA. He has also personally delivered new Jeanneau yachts to customers directly in France.

When a new yacht is delivered to the customer, Mike takes pride in walking the customers through their new product and invites them into his boating family for the entire time they have their boat. Once the new customer is introduced to Mike, they get his personal phone number, and he will answer each and every question founded on his extensive experience in the industry. If Mike does not have the answer he will find it promptly for the customer.

Mike was formally educated as a civil engineer and held a master electrician license and trained his employees ABYC and NMEA practice guidelines for the marine industry. His philosophy is to educate and create a team workplace in which employees come to work and learn engineering and electrical while enjoying work in a recreational atmosphere.

Sherrie Miller comes to us with decades of extensive service, maintenance, management, project and event coordination, as well as a widely varied creative base including sign painting, pastry and culinary, resource management & building, design, reuse, and conservation.

Having grown up in the central flat lands of land-locked Kansas, Sherrie came to the PNW to be one with nature adding water and mountains to the mix. Having graduated at 40 with a BS in Environmental Science she came to Seattle to work with Seattle Parks and Recreation/AmeriCorps as a Facilitator with environmental projects in at-risk youth programs. Years with Seattle Parks, Washington State Parks, and Oregon State Parks have given Sherrie nearly endless joy in so many areas of outdoor life and work. She loves wandering the forests and the shores, especially the rainforests of the peninsula, slugs bring her more bliss than is reasonable and she will always be found at the party in a corner hanging out with the pets of the house.

In maintenance and service, repair and preservation along with zero waste stream and sustainability preferences push her to find solutions that help to maintain good stewardship in our environment. If Sherrie does not have the answer, she has a passion for daily learning and furthering an extensive varied knowledge base and she will find the answer through collaboration and research, questions and reaching out to her network of fellow cohorts. Ripple was re-powered in 2017 (Beta-14 2-cylinder diesel, ~1500 hours currently) Fuel Consumption: ~ 1 ¼ liters per hour @2700 RPM (~5.2 knots).

Rare classic runabout was built in 1954 by Tomahawk Boat Co., Tomahawk, WI. Lapstrake construction of marine plywood with an enclosed bow, windshield, and water well in the stern. Underwent restoration in 2002. All brightwork is a rich, brilliant red mahogany, and hardware was re-chromed. Original 1955 Evinrude Big Twin 25HP OB motor and controls. Included is a 1967 TEE NEE trailer with modern updates including bunk rails, fresh wiring, and larger wheels and tires for highway travel. Serious inquiries only.

Right next door is Anthony’s Restaurant @ Point Defiance and Point Defiance Boathouse, as well as Metro Park’s Public Boat Launch (ramp fees apply & overnight moorage available). Within walking distance up the hill you will find The Antique Sandwich Company, Macaluso’s Italian Restaurant and Cole’s Bar and Grill.  And also within walking distance to the East is Point Ruston which has restaurants and shops.

We are a Full Service Marina offering Moorage – both permanent and overnight – a Service & Repair Dept., a Yacht Brokerage, and our Marine Store w/ parts, supplies and several food items. Stop by and check us out!

Puget Sound is an inlet located in the Pacific Ocean and the Salish Sea that cuts into northwestern Washington, right near the city of Seattle . It is the second largest estuary in the United States, only after the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and Virginia .

Puget’s average water depth is 450 feet deep, with the Sound running 95 miles in length and has an estimated 1,330 miles of shoreline. Three primary basins make up the sound, including: Whidbey Basin, South Sound, and Main Basin.

• Johnson Farm (on Anderson Island) was established in 1896 by Finnish immigrants John and Alma Marie. Today this spot is regarded as a historical site. Dozens of original buildings, farm equipment, and machinery still dot the farm and give you a glimpse into farm life in the late 1800s to mid-1900s. Take a docent tour, visit the gift shop, wander through the museum, or check out one of their many events ranging from farmers markets to concerts, exercise classes, and garden club get-togethers.

• Deception Pass State Park is a 3,854-acre park is the most visited state park in all of Washington State . It is filled with quiet, secretive coves, jagged cliffsides, 33,900 feet of freshwater shorelines, 77,000 feet of saltwater shorelines, breathtaking lakes, clean streams, and 38 miles of pristine hiking trails, and of course, the famous high bridge. The Pacific Northwest Scenic Trail runs through here and stretches from Cape Alva at the Pacific Ocean to Montana’s Glacier National Park.

Boating Laws in Puget Sound

It is important to carefully follow all rules and regulations for any body of water you enter, and to respect fellow boaters and the natural wildlife that calls the area home. Here’s a few important factors to keep in mind.

Make space for whales

• Stay at least 300 yards away from whales and at least 400 yards from the path behind or in front of whales. Slow down to seven knots or less when you are within a half mile of them.
• Use the whale warning flag. Turn off fish finders and depth sounders if you see a whale or a whale flag. This equipment is painfully noisy and disruptive for the whales.
• Check out Whale Wise to learn more about how to stay safe, protect the whales, and all the rules and regulations that surround whales.

No waste or sewage dumping

• Boats that are over twenty-six feet long must display a MARPOL trash placard. Vessels that are over forty feet must have a written Waste Management Plan onboard and stick to it. No trash can be thrown overboard in Puget Sound. Failure to comply can result in up to a five-year sentence, a $50,000 fine, plus $25,000 in civil penalties.
• Raw untreated sewage has to be properly disposed of via a pump-out station or an official mobile pump-out service. Discharging sewage in Puget Sound or any of its freshwater tributaries will result in a $2,000 fine.
• Intentionally draining oil or oil waste can lead to a $20,000 per day per violation fine, plus the cost of environmental cleanup, damage, and property repairs.

Use eco-friendly (or non-toxic) products

The ecosystem in Puget Sound is delicate. Many common products are dangerous, even deadly, to marine life. It is illegal to discharge or allow the discharge of any pollutant. Pollutants are anything that changes the chemical, physical, or biological nature of the water it enters.

Here are easy swaps to make to keep Puget Sound healthy and keep you out of trouble:

• Swap detergent and soap for water and extra scrubbing (elbow grease).
• Swap scouring powders for baking soda.
• Swap brass cleaner for Worcestershire sauce or a paste made of equal parts salt, vinegar, and water.
• Swap copper cleaner for lemon juice or salt.
• Swap hand cleaner for baby oil.
• Swap fiberglass cleaner for baking soda paste.

Washington State Boating Education Requirements

• Anyone born before January 1st, 1955, does not need the Boater Education Card. Personal watercraft can only be operated by those at least 14 years old. You cannot lease, rent, or hire a personal watercraft to anyone under the age of sixteen.
• Children 12 years or older can operate a motorboat of fifteen horsepower or greater with a Washington Boater Education Card. Without a card, the child can drive with the supervision of someone at least 16 and carry their card.

Coast Guard, ferry crew save 6 people, 2 dogs in Rosario Strait

Wave over bow shattered cabin cruiser’s windshield.

SEATTLE — A Washington State Ferries crew on Saturday helped the Coast Guard rescue six people and two dogs from a boat in Rosario Strait.

A 37-foot cabin cruiser called for assistance during “nasty weather” near Decatur Island just before 1 p.m., the Coast Guard station in Bellingham said. A wave over the bow shattered the boat’s front windshield, injuring some of the boaters and causing the vessel to take on water.

The boaters shared their GPS position before their radio shorted out and they lost communications. The Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast — a radio message for all boaters in the area — and dispatched vessels and a helicopter.

Before the Coast Guard arrived, the ferry Samish responded and launched its rescue boat. Four boaters were taken on board the ferry, and the ferry used its size to shield the damaged boat from wind and waves.

A U.S. Coast Guard boat responded and took the two other passengers and their dogs, Buster and Belle, on board. Coast Guard crew members drove the cabin cruiser safely to Anacortes while the Samish shielded it from the wind.

Once on shore, the Anacortes Fire Department took the boaters to EMS to be checked for any injuries.

“The quick response and excellent seamanship exhibited by Washington State Ferries highlights the incredible partnerships we have in the Puget Sound,” Lt. Ryan Sexton, a command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, said in a statement. “The mariners’ use of a VHF radio for their distress call was critical to our ability to quickly locate them and coordinate an effective response.”
