Enoshima Yacht Harbor
The harbor was originally built as the yachting venue for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. On June 1st 2014, the new Yacht Clubhouse opened, and this 2-storey building features a wave-inspired roof design. Shonan Port is a pioneering public yacht harbor which hosts a number of yacht races each year, and has contributed greatly to the spread of yachting in Japan. At present, around 1000 yachts are moored here. Following on from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the harbor has again been chosen as the venue for the sailing competition during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Center Promenade has been built as an inclusive recreation area from where anyone can enjoy watching the yachts glide in and out of the harbor. In addition, adjacent to Shonan Port is a fishing area popular with anglers and which provides ideal sea fishing conditions.

Best Marinas in Japan FAQs
Are there marinas in japan.
Yes, Japan has over 600 marinas, with at least 100 marinas able to receive visiting vessels.
Most of Japan’s marinas are located in and around the Seto Inland Sea which separates Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. But big cities like Tokyo and Yokohama also have impressive marinas.
Is pleasure boating popular in Japan?
Yes, but not to the same extent as the US. According to the Japan Marine Industry Association (JMIA), there are only 250,000 registered pleasure boat owners in Japan, with 600,000 people enjoying boating in Japan each year. This smaller market still has a substantial economic footprint, contributing over $250 million to the Japanese economy.
What is the most popular marina in Japan?
Yokohama Bayside Marina is undoubtedly Japan’s most popular.
This 1,500-berth marina is Japan’s most glamorous, offering restaurants, outlet shopping, and superb views of beautiful boats and yachts as they come and go. Its layout and atmosphere are similar to the yacht haven of Nantucket on America’s East Coast.
Can I charter a yacht in Japan?
Yes! Skippered and skipperless yacht charters are an increasingly popular way to tour Japan.
There are a variety of charter brokers who offer every type of boat, up to staffed superyachts with luxury catering and itineraries.
Is there sailing in Japan?
Of course! As an island nation, the Japanese have been sailing for millennia. However, the Japanese sailing culture is nowhere near as developed as the US or UK.
The Inland Sea attracts the most Japanese and international sailors. International sailors will find knowledgeable Japanese sailors, port, and marina staff who can advise on dangerous straits and other challenging waters.
How long does it take to sail from Japan to the US?
The 5,150 nautical mile journey across the Pacific Ocean from California to Japan takes 30 days.
Are there sailing races in Japan?
Yes! The Japanese absolutely love a unique form of powerboat racing called ‘Kyotei’ (Boat Race). The races involve timed races in a dedicated stadium with a giant 600-meter race pond, where onlookers watch from a grandstand.
Kyotei racing is one of Japan’s few legalized forms of gambling making it popular, with huge turnouts at the 24 Kyotei stadia across the country.
Learn more about the fascinating sport of Kyotei in my article: Kyotei: Your Essential Guide to Japanese Boat Racing .
Where do cruise ships dock in Japan?
The main cruise ship ports in Japan are Yokohama, Tokyo, and Kobe. There are several transpacific cruises that sail to Japan docking in these major ports.
What are Fisharinas?
Fisharinas are a Japanese invention of a fishing port combined with a marina.
It is hoped that by providing berths for pleasure craft, a fisharina will attract tourism and economic growth in traditional fishing ports. So these areas are being redeveloped with the facilities for recreational boating.
Rounding Up
As you can see, you can chill out at several marinas across Japan and even charter a yacht for your own private cruise.
As for me, I’m cool with my feet on dry land, preferably indulging in a delicious meal or browsing the marina’s luxury shopping outlets!

Visit of the Enoshima Yacht Harbor getting ready for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Sponsored by Fujisawa City Tourist Association
When you go to Enoshima Island, you can’t miss the Yacht Harbor and its numerous sailboats on the left side of the bridge. Created for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, the harbor is now getting ready to host the yacht competitions of the 2020 Summer Olympics!
The bridge that connected Enoshima to the mainland.
The Yacht Club House
On the 1st of June 2014, a sailing club called “Yacht Club House” was created. The two story building’s interesting wave shaped roof was designed by two Japanese architects named Yoshiro Taniguchi and Mizuki Yamada.
This beautiful place houses the club headquarters, a sailing equipment shop and a restaurant-coffee shop. When the weather is good enough, you can climb up to the rooftop for a stunning view on the bay! If you go to Enoshima you should stop here, it’s free and less crowded than the islands other observation points!

Visit of the harbor
Since its creation, Enoshima’s harbor has hosted many international sailing competitions. It is also one of the largest public yacht harbors in Japan! More than 1 000 boats are currently moored in the port.
More than 1 000 boats tied up.
The “Center Promenade” is a recreational space open to everyone. I liked watching the boats’ coming back and forth from there.
Nice shading of windsurf boards along the “Center Promenade”.
Along Enoshima’s Yacht Harbor there is a fishing center where a lot of Japanese (including people from Tokyo) go fishing.
Resting room for the sunday’s salorman.
Enoshima Island is well-known for being a romantic place that attracts a lot of couples every weekend. The harbor adds to this reputation: at the end of the day, when the sundown starts, a radiant warm light covers the boats and the coast!
Finally, the port also provides visitors with other facilities such as a skate park and several tennis courts! If you want to sail, you can take a sailing class with the “Chotto Yacht Club”, the children club version that also provides class for adults. It costs around 8500 yen per adult and 7 500 yen per child.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics
As in 1964, the port will once more host the sailing events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
A total of 55 Olympic and Paralympic sports will be hotly contested at the Tokyo 2020 games. The sailing trials basically consist in races between sailboats, windsurfing, sailing dinghy, skiff and catamaran.
Japans sailing team is fairly well classified in the sailing events! They finished 5th (just behind Great Britain, New Zealand, France and Netherlands) amongst 20 countries in Rio during the 2016 games.
If you go there soon, you will see that many construction works are currently under way!
I saw a crane!
And those temporary installations.
I can already imagine the place crowded with the athletes, their teams and all the supporters! I can’t wait to discover the new harbor in 2020! Can you?
From Tokyo, take the Odakyu Line until the “Katase Enoshima” station.
It takes between 65 and 75 minutes from Shinjuku and it costs 630 yen.
There is also a faster and more expensive way. The Romance Car limited express, which goes from Shinjuku to Katase Enoshima. This train completes the trip in only 1 hour for just shy under double the price, at 1250 yen.
If you plan to go to Enoshima before the 19th of February, don’t miss the Enoshima illumination winter festival!

A sanctuary held the Olympic Games twice!Let’s dig deeper into the attractiveness of the yacht harbor.
In 1964 and 2021, the games of the Tokyo Olympic were held here, so Enoshima Yacht Harbor has been called the sacred place of yacht harbor. Many cruisers are captively hold and phenix trees are swinging at the park around the sea coast, this scenery is just like a tropical resort place. Many leisures are available such as a cruising tour, an experience sailing activity, and so on, these leisures are attractive for people even those who have never owned a yacht.
Table of Contents
If you come to enoshima, don’t forget to visit the ocean gate of sagami bay., have fun with marine leisures of the cruising tour and sailing experiences., check the local food fascinated by sailors from enoshima.
Enoshima Yacht Harbour located on the north- east coastal side of Enoshima was developed for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 1964. The ground area is so huge of 110,000 m², most of which is artificially reclaimed.
On the premises, there are the yacht harbor, land storage facility, repair shop, and the Club House playing a part of the gate of Sagami Bay. The Club House is characteristic of its roof designed with an image of gently swinging of waves and has 2 stories, there is the olympic memorial exhibition room for free admission, the free space including the observation deck, and the shop providing many marine related items. In the marine shop called 1964, gears and parts selected strictly by the first-class sailors are on sale. The original marine items and accessories are at high level as fashion items and popular for people who are not yacht owners.
In front of the Club House, the path called the Center Promenade is equipped and you can fully enjoy the atmosphere of the port. At the Center Promenade, you can watch yachts moving through the harbor at a close distance and many remarkable spots are located around the harbor. The former central city is nearby and you will see the scenery which strongly resembles an old fishing town.
Enoshima Yacht Harbor
The boat cruising, Enoshima Cruise, is recommended to visitors who want to try marine leisure at Enoshima. Many crushing plans are ready including the cruising course during sunset time on the boat.
If you don’t know how to handle a yacht, you can try a popular course, the sailing experience course. A trial session provided by non profit organization, Sailability Enoshima, opens at Enoshima Yacht Harbor for the people from the elementary schoolers and older, many elderly or disabled people occasionally attend. You might be nervous when you wear a life jacket and go on board but you will get the best exhilarating feeling soon when the yacht starts running by nature power alone. Try maneuvering, you can handle smoothly earlier than you expect.
Sailing experience (NPO Sailability Enoshima)
The only gourmet spot in the Club House is Cafe Tobiccho Enoshima Yacht Harbor. Cafe Tobiccho is managed by a whitebait wholesaler and 4 shops are opened in Enoshima and Shonan areas. In the shop with a comfortable atmosphere where sun shines, various dishes are served, for example, curry, salad, and pizza filled with seafood, and dishes using Yamayuri pork which is a brand of pork of Kanagawa prefecture.
The most recommended dish is Shirasu-donburi (whitebait on rice), you can choose topping with Kamaage which is fluffy and freshly boiled whitebait or crispy fried whitebait. Don’t miss the donburi using raw whitebait for a limited quantity and time. Whitebait has an excellent taste because it is strictly choosed and cooked on the day when caught in the morning so the texture is nice and slightly sweet. Enjoy the great taste which the sailors who reach the harbor are fascinated with.
Gourmet spots which are worth visiting are scattered around the yacht harbor such as a seafood restaurant and SUNCAFE PARADISE which is a fashionable shop and was renovated from a trailer house at Enoshima-higashi town.

Only a short train ride west of Kamakura , Enoshima (]̓) is a pleasantly touristy island just off the coast but connected by bridge with the mainland. The island offers a variety of attractions, including a shrine, park, observation tower and caves. Views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed on days with good visibility.
Enoshima is divided into a yacht harbor and a forested hill which can only be explored on foot (and paid escalators) and contains most of the sights. Several shrine buildings, collectively known as Enoshima Shrine , are found around the island and are dedicated to Benten, a popular goddess of good fortune, wealth, music and knowledge. Benten is believed to have created Enoshima before subduing a five headed dragon that was terrorizing the area.
An interesting aquarium and some of the closest beaches to Tokyo are located on the mainland just off Enoshima. The beaches on both sides of the island become very crowded with sun bathers and swimmers during July and August, while the long stretches of beach that continue to Chigasaki in the west and Kamakura in the east are popular for surfing.
Visitors to Enoshima should consider purchasing the Enoshima 1-Day combination ticket, which includes admission to the island's main attractions (garden, observation tower, caves) and use of the escalators for 1100 yen (or 1500 yen if visiting the Samuel Cocking Garden after 5pm). The ticket can be purchased at tourist information desks or the escalator ticket office.

Getting there and around
Enoshima is served by three train and monorail lines, each of which has its separate station: Enoden (Enoshima Station), Odakyu Railway (Katase Enoshima Station near the aquarium) and the Shonan Monorail (Shonan Enoshima Station near Ryukoji Temple).
From Tokyo by Odakyu Railway
Take an express or rapid express train from Shinjuku bound for Fujisawa and transfer to a local train to Katase Enoshima, the terminal station. The entire one way trip takes 65-75 minutes and costs 640 yen. There are connections every 10 to 15 minutes. Alternatively, Romance Car limited express trains run directly between Shinjuku and Katase Enoshima (60 minutes, 1390 yen, or 1340 yen if using an e-ticket) every one or two hours on weekends and holidays.
Odakyu Railway also offers the Enoshima Kamakura Free Pass , which includes a round trip ticket between Shinjuku and Fujisawa and unlimited use of Enoden trains between Fujisawa and Kamakura and Odakyu trains between Fujisawa and Enoshima. The pass is valid for one day and costs 1640 yen. It is a good value if you also visit Kamakura, but it does not pay off if you visit Enoshima alone.
From Tokyo by Japan Railways (JR)
Take the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo Station or the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku Station to Fujisawa Station (45-50 minutes, 990 yen) and transfer to either the Enoden (10 minutes, 220 yen) or Odakyu Railway (7 minutes, 160 yen) for Enoshima. Alternatively, get off at Ofuna (40-45 minutes, 820 yen) and transfer to the Shonan Monorail for an exciting ride to Enoshima (15 minutes, 320 yen, stand or sit at the front of the car for interesting views).
From Kamakura
The one way trip between Kamakura and Enoshima by Enoden train takes 25 minutes and costs 260 yen. There are trains about every ten minutes.

Sailing Takes Me Away: To Enoshima Yacht Harbor
It’s not far down to paradise - in fact, it’s just over an hour from Tokyo on the Ueno Tokyo Line to the shores of Fujisawa City, where you’ll find the darling Enoshima Island and Enoshima Yacht Harbor, a popular stage for yacht races. This summer, teams from over 60 countries will sail away - and back again in the Summer game Sailing competitions. Originally built for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, Enoshima Yacht Harbor is now home to hundreds of dinghies for sailing enthusiasts who come year-round looking to find serenity on the waves. It’s also a popular destination for weekend anglers and has a variety of facilities to support fun and casual visits.
We recently interviewed Kenji Nakamura, the coach for Japan’s sailing team. Read about his background and how he spends his time, both normally, and during his downtime in the Covid-19 pandemic. Read more about Coach Nakamura in this breezy article: https://www.sportsjourney.jp/highlights/555/
From Enoshima Island, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Sagami Bay and the Pacific Ocean beyond it, as well as a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji due west. To the East, viewers can gaze beyond the harbor to Kamakura.
Kamakura, birthplace of Japan’s first samurai government, the “Kamakura shogunate,” is one of Japan’s oldest cities with attractions similar to those in Kyoto, and has a deep history and culture. Visitors can experience Zen meditation, wooden dish carving, or visit the many shrines, temples and historical sites. Marine sports at the beach or hiking in the nearby mountains give more active visitors even more options.
We recommend visiting the Bamboo Garden at Hokokuji Temple, a beautiful grove of hundreds of bamboo behind the temple’s main hall, and the Great Buddha of Kotoku-in, the second largest Great Buddha statue in Japan.
It’s not far to Enoshima island from Tokyo station. It takes about 1hour 30 minutes. Here, the wind is right, and you will find serenity. Just you wait and see!

Enoshima Yacht Harbor ECO Christmas Illumination
An environmentally-friendly light-up event in Kanagawa
There's no doubt that festive illumination events are beautiful, but they do have an environmental impact. The Enoshima Yacht Harbor ECO Christmas Illumination aims to shine an eco-friendly light (no pun intended) on the popular winter tradition, with 40 yachts set to be illuminated using electricity supplied from EV (electric vehicles) and FCV (fuel cell vehicles).
During the day, the harbor will be showcasing some of those vehicles, and there will also be a variety of hands-on workshops that attendees can take part in.
Admission to the event is free of charge.

- Important pre-arrival information: The Japan Coastguard (JCG) require an Advance Notice of Arrival. See Formalities for all the details .
- Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is located in the Pacific Ocean and lies off the eastern coast of the Asian continent. It stretches from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and the Philippine Sea in the south.
- The total population of Japan is about 127 million, about 90% of whom live in cities. The majority of the Japanese practice Shintoism or Buddism, or a combination of the two.
- Japan operates on Japan Standard Time. For specifics see General Info .
- Japan has four seasons. Spring is characterized by mild conditions whilst the summers can be hot and humid. Autumn can be unpredictable with the highest chance of typhoons whilst the winters are generally crisp with clear skies and snow in places. See Weather section below for more details.
- Japan has over 2,500 ports, so mooring opportunities abound. Visiting yachts typically moor in fishing ports (almost always free), at marinas (of which there about 120 that accept visitors), Umi-no-Eki marinas (“sea stations” – 50 mini-marinas run by local governments), and “Fisherinas” (small marinas operated by fishing co-ops, of which there are about 20 that can handle cruising sailboats).
- Japanese marinas are priced on a par with marinas in other developed countries and are more expensive in/near the larger cities (Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo/Yokohama).
- In general, visiting yachts rarely anchor in Japan (except in the southern islands and a few places in the Seto Inland Sea). Most protected bays are well-developed harbors, and anchoring inside official harbor limits is prohibited. Most other protected bays are occupied by aquaculture operations.
- A major cruising attraction is the Inland Sea (Seto Naikai), which is a large body of water, connected by three passes to the surrounding ocean, and which allows yacht access into the very heart of the country. The place abounds with pretty anchorages or small fishing harbors, but there are also many marinas as well as yacht clubs, which usually offer hospitality to visitors. Those in the smaller places have only basic facilities, while in the larger towns clubs are on a par with the best yacht clubs in Europe or America.
- Typhoon season runs typically from July to October and it is possible to continue cruising during this time as long as you are watchful and cautious. Japan has very well-built harbors/marinas and an excellent early-warning system, allowing cruisers to seek safe harbor when a typhoon is approaching and then stay there until the danger has passed. The Seto Inland Sea is well protected from most typhoons and northern Japan is another good option as typhoons usually weaken by the time they get there.
- For more details on yachting services see Yachting Essentials .
- The Kuroshio, or Black Current, flows from south to north and is a very reasonable way for yachts in Asia to take the North Passage to the US West coast. It is easier to cruise the Japanese Islands moving in this direction.

We have just finished a second cruising season in Japan, having taken CAPAZ from Fukuoka up the west coast to Otaru Marina, in Hokkaido adjacent to Sapporo.
We were able to harbor hop the entire way with no overnight passages. In May the weather and wind conditions were mostly fine as the southern monsoon winds had started. We found the small harbors and towns very welcoming. Most of the tie ups are to a harbor wall and free. Large fenders are strongly advised.
We were able to leave our boat in Fukuoka between cruising seasons under the excellent care of Kirk Patterson, Konpira consulting. He also was a great help in obtaining services, repairs, haul outs, and dealing with local coast guard and customs officials. We were able to get the equivalent of a Japanese cruising permit and were not required to check in to any ports along the way.
Otaru Marina in Hokkaido is a wonderful marina. We are leaving CAPAZ there for another off season. The marina manager, Akira Kadano, was able to help us winterize the boat and source a local boat guy to watch over us, also has helped us with repairs. A good yard and haulout option is there for boats under 20 US tons.
Overall crusing in Japan has been a delight. We have been met with wonderfully kind and curious local people, love the food and affordable prices.
Rob, thanks for this great feedback on cruising Japan. I suspect more and more boats are going to start heading that way now the officialdom has become alot simpler. If you have a blog about your time in Japan, or similar, please do let us know and we’ll add it to our Japan Links section.
Update from Kirk Patterson of Konpira Consulting, Japan: Japan has just entered a seventh Covid surge, setting a new record in infections since the pandemic started (but fortunately not in hospitalizations or deaths). So far, the national and local governments are not re-imposing any restrictions on activities/movement, but they have postponed the start of a campaign to promote domestic tourism. I had previously thought that Japan might open up to foreign visitors in September, but I think this latest surge makes that unlikely (especially as Japan has been carefully monitoring NZ’s experience of a major surge in infections after it ended its long, strict border restrictions). There are some rumors of an October 1 opening, but I think it will probably be late fall or even January 1. All of which makes it hard for the many cruisers trying to make yes/no decisions on whether to prepare for entering Japan next spring (the normal time to arrive in Japan).
The announcement that Japan was opening to all foreign tourists from 1 June led to a great deal of misunderstanding: it does in fact only apply to tightly scheduled tour groups with guides. The number of tourists that can enter Japan each month is capped and maritime borders for yachts are still very much closed. Kirk Patterson of Konpira Consulting Japan told Noonsite; “A national election is scheduled for late July, so it is unlikely that any major opening will be announced before then. September is the earliest likely date that cruisers would be able to enter Japan, however there is still a great deal of uncertainty about what visas will be avail-able. In any case, April-June is the time for foreign cruisers to enter Japan so a September opening is too late for cruisers to come to Japan in 2022.” He adds “I do know, though, that a lot of foreign cruisers are wanting to come to Japan. Compared to 20-30 boats in a typical pre-pandemic year, I’ve got a “possible client” list for 2023-2024 of about 30 boats….and that’s just people who have contacted me, so I would guess that the total number of boats seriously con-sidering coming to Japan as soon as it opens is well over a hundred.”
Hello ? everyone I am an Argentinian living in japan for a while now in Tokyo ! and getting interested in Buying a boat sailing and using the boat as House ! Can someone advise me place to find cheap used boats for buying ! Websites , suggestions, how to save in getting the license for sailing ! Any public institution? For practicing and taking exam ? Any advise is welcome. Messenger Maximiliano Paradiso What’s app +5491164166669
Hi, Maxim…I am a Canadian who has cruised Japan for six years (and lived here for a total of 32 years, 25 in Tokyo). I currently operate a marine-tourism company (see Konpira Consulting ad). For what you want to do, the best way to start is to join the Tokyo Sail and Power Squadron… https://tspsjapan.org ; the membership chairman is John Marshall — [email protected] . TSPS is a group of foreign sailors n Japan, mainly the Tokyo area. Through them you can learn how to prepare for the Japanese boat-license exam and take it in English, can sail on other members’ boats, and get ideas on how to search for a boat (there are several websites for buying/selling boats, but they are all in Japanese). You can’t technically make a boat your official, registered residence, but you can use it as a floating cottage! To moor a boat within commuting distance of Tokyo, though, is very expensive (some TSPS members actually moor their boats in the Seto Inland Sea and fly there 1-2 times a month for some weekend sailing…cheaper than keeping the boat near Tokyo). Anyway, I recommend that you join TSPS and then take it from there. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions — [email protected] . Good luck!
Hey ? Kirk Captain Kirk maybe !? ? Thank you ? for the info ! I will do that ! Is ok with the Japanese websites I have Automatic translation, if you can give me some of them I really appreciate!

I just concluded a passage from Portland, OR to Yokohama, Japan, spending about a month moving from a Wakkanai, Hokkaido landfall to Yokohama Bayside Marina where I left my 60’ s/v Elcano. I had the excellent assistance of Kirk Patterson of Konpira Consulting for the month I spent in Japan and recommend him most enthusiastically for help understanding and navigating through the complexities of Japan. He knows boats having circumnavigated Japan solo and made numerous offshore passages; he knows Japan and the considerable Japanese marine bureaucracy having lived there for decades; he is fluent in Japanese and he is well known in the marinas and sailing communities around Japan. In addition, he is a valuable source of local weather forecasts, local charts and fishing gear hazards, which are ubiquitous, and the specifics of where to find moorage in ports. Kirk can be reached at [email protected]

What were the procedures for leaving? Anything special or notice required?
Mar 13, 2019 06:10 AM
Upon arrival in Okinawa from Tahiti (French Polynesia), we were instructed by the Japan Coast Guard (+81(0)98-951-0120) to clear in at Naha harbor. Best to communicate via email (they reply quickly – using on-line translator): [email protected]
You can easily get the “pre-arrival procedure form” (to mail to JCG prior to landing) with a simple web engine search. The pre-arrival procedure form is rather long, detailed, and clearly designed for large vessels, thus no worries if you can’t fill in all boxes.
In your mail to JCG, ask them to arrange landing location with the Naha port authority (+81(0)98-862-2328) as they don’t speak English either.
Our landing position at Naha commercial harbor: Quay 5 – N26°12’34 E127°40’22
Fee: approx. 300 Yen/night (based on tonnage – 5 tons)
Customs office at Naha Port: [email protected] / +81(0)98-862-8529
All Customs procedures are explained and relevant forms available at: http://www.customs.go.jp/english/law/customsform/form_C_e.htm
For tax-free fuel, you need Customs form C2160 – “Declaration of loading of [your] ship’s stores of domestic goods [i.e. Japanese gas!]”
Sailing boats can’t stay in Naha commercial port. Shortly after completing all entry formalities, you will be asked to move to Ginowan marina (West coast) or Yonabaru marina (East coast).
We moved to Itoman fishing port “Fisherina”, where we stayed 1 week at a floating pontoon. The Fisherina office is closed on Wednesday. No English spoken but friendly and helpful staff with whom we could ‘easily’ communicate through real-time voice translation app. Mooring coordinates: N26°07’43 E127°39’04
Tariffs: 1500 Yen/night (based on boat length – our boat is 35′ feet long) Gasoil/Diesel: delivery by truck at the pontoon upon request (provider called by Fisherina office) Fresh water at the pontoon: 50 Yen/hour (long hose available upon request at the office) Facilities: WC, showers (hot water – 200 Yen/shower), beverages (vending machines)
No Internet / WIFI but if needed, possibility to get connected at the Fisherina office Free public WIFI networks widely available in Okinawa (e.g. BeOkinawa, NahaCity, etc.)
A useful website to get the contacts of the various marinas where you can stop in Japan is http://www.umi-eki.jp (English version available). They do not all speak English on the phone though…
Regarding notice of arrival to Japan Coast Guard: The email addresses for the Ogasawara Coast Guard Station in Chichi Jima is [email protected] and for Kawayama Coast Guard on Honshu is [email protected] .

The Wonders of Cruising Japan by Kirk Patterson
Many Moorage Options
For foreigners, one of the most surprising aspects of cruising Japan is that one rarely anchors. Most of the well-protected harbors are fishing or commercial ports (where anchoring is prohibited and which have so much junk on the seabed that one would probably lose one's anchor) or are full of aquaculture operations. Fortunately, though, Japan has many great, and generally cheap, moorage options.
Fishing Ports
Japan has over 2,500 fishing ports, so one is almost never more than a few hours away from a well-protected harbor. One can almost always find a place to tie up (the exceptions being crowded fishing ports near big cities, especially Tokyo and Osaka) and moorage is generally free – in six years of cruising Japan, I've never been unable to find a moorage spot in a fishing port and I've only been asked to pay twice. Here are photos of Silk Purse at the fishing ports of Taisha, Ishikawa, and Ikenma, Kakeroma Island, Kagoshima.
Read more on How to Moor in Japanese Fishing Ports in a "Kirk's Take" column.
There are over 100 marinas that can accommodate visiting cruisers (although not all can handle larger boats). The facilities are generally excellent, the staff friendly, and the fees reasonable (generally lower than at comparable marinas in other developed countries). Here are photos of Silk Purse at Fukuoka City Yacht Harbor (north Kyushu) and Oarai Marina, Ibaragi (Pacific coast).
Read more about Japanese Marinas in a "Kirk's Take" column.
Japan has a nationwide network of over 170 Umi no Eki (Sea Stations) that offer visitor moorage. About 100 of them are marinas, but the other 70 are visitor-only "mini-marinas" that can accommodate only a few boats (sometimes just one). Moorage at the mini-marinas is typically cheap and occasionally free. Here are photos of Silk Purse moored at two of the best Umi no Eki , at Yuge, Ehime, and at Ohmishima, Ehime (both in the Seto Inland Sea).
Some local fishing co-operatives operate their own marinas, referred to as Fisherinas. There are about 30 Fisherinas, many of which are simple facilities catering primarily to small pleasure-fishing boats but some are on a par with marinas. Here are photos of Silk Purse at Fisherinas in Ukujima, Nagasaki (the northernmost island in the Goto Islands, off Kyushu's west coast), and in Amakusa (an area of inland seas and islands in western Kyushu).
Random Docks
Here and there throughout Japan, one can find docks that visitors can use, usually for free, for a few days — some are specifically for visitors (but not registered Umi no Eki ) while others are just unused. In addition, as bridges connect many of Japan's islands to the mainland, ferry docks are often available for short-term moorage (with some of them registered as Umi no Eki ). And even some actively used ferry docks allow visitors to moor on the side not used by the ferry (typically the left side of the dock looking from the water). (Note, though, that floating docks in fishing ports are almost always for the exclusive 24/7 use of fishing boats and any cruiser who tries to moor there will be chased away.) Here are photos of Silk Purse moored at a ferry dock at Ikejima, Nagasaki, and at an unused dock near Watazumi Shrine at Tsushima, Nagasaki.
And, of course, Japan does have some lovely anchoring spots too. In particular, one can find good anchorages in many of the Ryukyu Islands in southern Japan, in the Goto Islands off Kyushu's west coast, in Tsushima's Aso Bay, and in some parts of the Seto Inland Sea. This drone photo shows Konpira Consulting's first client, M/V Buffalo Nickel, anchored off of Naru Island in the Goto Islands.

Enoshima Yacht Harbor ECO Christmas Illumination
An environmentally-friendly light-up event in kanagawa.
Getting there
The closest station to Enoshima Yacht Harbor is Katase-Enoshima Station, which is served by the Odakyu Enoshima Line. From the station, the yacht harbor is just under 20 minutes away on foot.
For those who opt to drive, parking is available – it's charged at a rate of 300 JPY per hour (for standard-sized vehicles) up to a maximum of 1500 JPY per day.

California yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker in vicious showdown, cali yacht owner threatens to kill dock worker drops pants for rude salute, 95 3/13/2024 8:09 am pt.
A California yacht owner's vicious beef with a dock worker has reached death-threat levels -- and their exchange was caught on camera and included a nude, and very rude, gesture!
Check out the clip ... it all unfolds when San Diego entrepreneur Ajay Thakore swings by the swanky Marriott Marquis Marina in his rare $4.5M Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht to pick up one of his employees -- but things boil over when dock worker Joseph Holt tells him he can't be there.
Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, flips out on Holt big time ... and starts spewing threats like, "I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill."
And it doesn't stop there -- as Thakore's pulling out of the harbor, he drops trou to make a full frontal salute in Holt's direction. Stay classy, San Diego!
Holt's only retaliation was flipping the bird, and he later told CBS8 that was all he could do to keep his cool and avoid escalating the situation.
Holt says parts of the altercation were not captured on camera, and he adds ... Thakore not only threatened to kill him, but also claimed to have connections who could totally mess up his life.
Holt also says Thakore pulled out $100 bills and tossed them at him, even chucking some in the water.
BTW, Thakore's done some backpedaling since the ugly exchange -- he now says, "The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange."
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
FWIW ... One of Thakore’s employees claims the whole thing began because other dock workers blocked him from boarding the yacht.
Oh, and if that fancy Lambo yacht looks familiar -- it's the same one Chuck Liddell recently tumbled off just last month. Now it's famous AND infamous!

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.
Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.
"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.
In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.
Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.
"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.
Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.
"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.
The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8. The Harbor Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.
Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."
"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.
Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."
In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."
