CHARTER BOAT OF THE YEAR - CRUISING WORLD Lounging around on the flybridge a few steps removed from the helm station on a breezy afternoon in the Virgin Islands is pretty darned enjoyable. In fact so is strolling about the boat and taking in the expansive views from numerous vantage points. On this boat, the great outdoors literally pour into the saloon and sleeping cabins thanks to the wall of glass and overhead skylight that spans the saloon.It offers one master cabin with queen berth, lounge area, en-suite bath and equipped with TV and two additional spacious queen cabins each with en-suite bath.

MEET THE CREW Captain: Mike Marier Chef/First Mate: Julie Marier November 1 2023 -1 April 30th 2024 Mike and Julie met soon after high school and have been inseparable ever since. While raising their family, Mike & Julie took family vacations up north which always meant time on the water boating, fishing, skiing, biking and lots of great memories with the family. They also traveled to tropical destinations to escape the cold winter months. When they took a family trip to the Virgin Islands they knew they would be back for good at some point. They bought a sailboat in Florida after their family was raised, spent time there and made the jump to come back to the islands after selling their home and everything they owned in 2019. They have run successful charters in the Virgin Islands ever since. Mike grew up in the land of 10,000 lakes and took full advantage of as many opportunities as he could to hit the lakes. As a boy and young man he spent many summers up north at the family cabin taking advantage of all water sports. It’s here that Mike developed his love of being on the water. Mike has been an entrepreneur most of his life and has, along with Julie run a personal training business, owned a fitness center and worked in the oil fields. In his free time, Mike enjoys working out, reading and ´wrenching´ on things. Mike looks forward to showing his guests a great time and all the amazing experiences the islands have to offer. Julie was born in Minnesota and moved to California as a young girl. It was then that Julie fell in love with the ocean and the peace and serenity it brought her. Julie’s love of cooking and food started at a young age as her mother was a wonderful cook and teacher and had Julie in the kitchen with her. Because of her early start, Julie worked in the service industry in many different fields after moving back to Minnesota. Julie loves to cook a wide range of foods but her favorites are comfort style, using fresh local ingredients. Julie’s hobbies are crocheting, cooking, working out with Mike and people watching :). Julie looks forward to having you and your family join them for an unforgettable experience. They hope to help others create lasting lifetime memories in their dream destination.

Can It Ever Get Any Better!

Our last evening we stayed in Caneel Bay on St. John, the end of a glorious week of adventure, beauty and fun. This was our first time to the Virgin Islands, the first time on a catamaran and I find it hard to imagine it can ever get better than this. The natural beauty of the islands can only be seen in their entirety from the water. The many deserted coves and beaches, where we walked in the soft sand and snorkeled in the crystal clear water, were an up-close and immersive experience second to none. Our son loved the underwater sea scooters and the wake board. Our oldest daughter would go out on the stand up paddleboards, and our youngest daughters jumped from the upper deck in between relaxing and handing out. Mike was the perfect boat captain. Everything on board worked well, there was plenty of water for showers and all the toys and activities were already for use. He sailed us to the best of the islands, taking into account the weather and waves so we had a comfortable and enjoyable trip. On the longer stretches Miked showed anyone who was interested how to sail the catamaran, how to go fast and avoid the other ships and boats while getting to where we wanted to go. Mike led our weeklong vacation while being kind, pleasant, and confidentially in command. This certainly made it easy for us to relax and enjoy the experience. As Mike led the boat, Julie led the accommodations and especially the kitchen. meals were the highlights of each day! The quantity, quality and presentation of breakfast, lunch, snack and especially dinner was wonderful. Juslie is an outstanding chef. The cuisine was fresh and flavourful while at the same time being hearty, healthy and a joy to behold! She kept the living area neat, clean and attractive! While exploring both the American and British Virgin Islands we felt like we were in a floating luxury hotel. Every day provided a new and unique experience and the transit from island to island was an ever changing seascape of stunning natural beauty. Every person in our family rates this as one of our best vacations ever. The only thing that might make it better was if we had a small convoy of 2 to 4 catamarans shared with friends and family, each crewed by a couple as thoughtful and capable as Mike and Julie. Thank you!

We were treated like family by Nick and Kate and our son absolutely adores Nick. He spent so much time helping Nate fish and educating him on things, that we saw Nate come out of his shell and have great moments of dialog with Nick. We couldn’t be more happy than this. Yacht Name: Sea Dog Rating of Yacht & Crew: 5 Was the yacht comfortable and clean? Yes very good layout and very clean. Was the yacht well ventilated? Very - we kept the doors open during the day and the AC was nice and cold at night Was the crew friendly and accommodating? Our crew was absolutely amazing. Captain Nick was the perfect balance of fun and safe. I knew about 30 mins in to being on the boat that he had our safety as his number one priority and that he knew sailing inside and out. He took us to great spots and when he wasn’t busy sailing he was busy cleaning up, getting toys out, helping Kate, or answering any of our million questions we were always throwing at him. He fished with us every night and that was definitely a highlight of the trip. Kate…no words. I think I speak for all of us when I say we wanted to take her home with us! She was the sweetest, kindest hostess we could ever imagine. Her food was delicious and her drinks were even better! She worked so hard the week we were there and you could tell she loved every minute of it. It would be hard to imagine doing this trip with anyone else. Was the food good and well presented? Yes the food was amazing. Every meal was delicious and our Chef, Kate, took into consideration all of the likes/dislikes we each told her about. Additional comments about the yacht and crew? We can’t imagine a better time than the one we had onboard Sea Dog with Kate and Nick. Every aspect was perfect - from the planning with VI Sailing to the trip itself. The boat was beautiful and safe and our crew took the best care of us. It was hard to leave on the last day. Cruising Area Did you like the area you chartered in? Yes! We were so glad we were about to visit both the USVI and BVI in one trip.

Our Crew Was Absolutely Amazing

We had the best week ever on Sea Dog with Captain Nick and Chef Kate. Every aspect of the trip far exceeded any expectations that we had. The boat was beautiful. Very spacious and the lay out was perfect for our group of 6 to be together or spread out when needed. Our absolute favorite feature of the boat was the flybridge. It was where we ended every day and I can’t imagine being on a boat without that space. Our crew was absolutely amazing. Captain Nick was the perfect balance of fun and safe. Absolute Best Way To See the USVI & BVI

We just returned home from a fabulous week aboard the Sea Dog. We were celebrating a couple of 40th birthdays with some dear friends! We could not have chosen a better boat and crew. Nick & Kate took the best care of us and made the week even that much better! They even joined in on our 80s theme night. Loved getting to know them and would sail again with them in a heartbeat! Sea Dog was the perfect size for our group and we loved all of the snorkeling, SUP, and fishing! The sky bridge was my favorite spot for pre-dinner happy hour. This was the absolute best way to see the USVI & BVIs. We cannot wait to do it again!

A Good Balance - Activities and Relaxation

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for an amazing, unforgettable, once in a lifetime experience. Looking forward to this, but not knowing what to expect, we relied on your guidance and knowledge. We were able to see some of God´s most beautiful creations. Thanks Mike for smooth sailing and taking us to some great snorkel spots. It was a good balance between activities and relaxation. I wanted to send a quick note about our trip. I’ll start with fantastic! Wonderful! Amazing! Spectacular! It TRULY is just gorgeous. It is spacious and very well appointed. Mike and Julie were so great! They were simply lovely people who were thoughtful, kind and anticipated what we would want. They take good care all the way around. We were pampered beyond expectations. (Our only disappointment was on Sunday following our return home we were left to our own devices in our homes to mix our own drinks, prepare our own meals and clean up after dinner! HaHaHa ) I will close with a heartfelt thank you for sharing your beautiful sailing vessel with us.

Sea-Doo enters pontoon market, announces 2022 lineup

BRP announced its 2022 watercraft lineup, along with an all-new category for the long-time personal watercraft manufacturer. Sea-Doo announced it is entering a new era with the introduction of the 2022 Sea-Doo Switch, an all-new pontoon boat that marries the spirit and fun of Sea-Doo with the versatility and stability of a pontoon platform.

“Over the years, we have proven that BRP is able to disrupt the industry by creating new segments. Our team has done it once again with the Sea-Doo Switch, which will revolutionize the pontoon market. Switch is uniquely positioned to attract new entrants and a younger generation,” mentioned José Boisjoli, BRP’s President and CEO.

This is not a typical pontoon – the Switch is unlike anything that has ever hit the water, and it is built specifically to change the realities of what life on the water can be. The innovative and adaptable platform provides the flexibility to fit the dreams of all kinds of recreational water lovers with a completely new and modular design, ease of riding, and affordability.

“It’s a dynamic pontoon with the heart of a Sea-Doo, and its quick-change deck design can be completely re-configured to fit a solo fishing trip in the morning to a family picnic at noon, and a wakeboard session in the evening,” said Annick Lauzon, Director, Global Marketing, Sea-Doo and Ski-Doo at BRP.

Perhaps its biggest point of differentiation – other than its Rotax jet propulsion system and unique, Sea-Doo inspired handlebar steering system – is that the entire deck is made of configurable tiles. Only the helm is stationary, and the rest of the layout can be changed in seconds to accommodate any adventure with easy-on, easy-off LinQ quick attach tiles. There are almost 100 options available, allowing people to add or remove seating, change table locations, and much more.

At its heart, the Sea-Doo Switch remains undeniably Sea-Doo, both above and below the waterline. A tri-hull ensures that fun is at the heart of the experience, with stability and agility allowing people to lean into turns and carve through the water. It also adds that rush of excitement and a dynamic behavior people don’t get from a traditional pontoon and features the acclaimed Sea-Doo iBR (Intelligent Brake & Reverse) – making it the first ever pontoon boat with brakes.

I did a ton of research before I pulled the trigger on this boat and it paid off. My first trip was in San Diego in mission bay and the boat was perfect. My self and father-in-law fished the bay for a week with no issues and were blown away how stable the boat was and received a ton of compliments. The 5hp mercury outboard compliments the boat.

I love my Seaeagle 12 Fast Cat. Use it almost everyday in Florida. Customer service is great. Had a valve leak and they sent me a box and had it back in a couple of weeks with shipping time. Just the right size if I need to deflate it and store it. Great ride and just a solid built boat.

Boat is really great. I got all the extras with electric pump, seats, bimini etc. Sets up pretty quick and easy. I went with an electric 83lbs thrust motor and batteries ( 24 volt). I can run for hours! Great to take on vacation with us. We have an RV and like to bring the golf cart and the boat once deflated takes up no room at all.

The unit fits all of our needs. It is very stable with two passengers. Plenty of room to carry a cooler. The sun shade does act like a sail in the wind but you just make the best of it. The electric motor allows one to do some fishing and not have to stay in one spot for any time. Overall, good quality, came in a timely manner and was fairly easy to assemble. It definitely takes two people to move around when inflated.

Captain Kristofor Olbrich

Kris was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up fishing off the local piers and beaches and had a summer job as a teenager, working as a mate on a fishing boat.

At 19, he began working as a line cook and a couple of years later enrolled in the French Culinary Institute. He went on to work as the head chef for restaurants around the world, opening 6 restaurants from NYC to the USVI, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. One of his favourite cuisines is from Thailand, where he spent 5 years as a chef in Bangkok and where he taught scuba diving in Southern Thailand. While living in St. John, Kris first learned to scuba dive and was hooked instantly. During his final open-water training dive, a large dolphin swam up and did circles around him. Kris decided he wanted to spend as much time in the water as possible. He figured the best way to do so would be to become a Scuba Instructor. He worked for several years teaching and guiding dives on liveaboard boats in Thailand, Hawaii, and the Cayman Islands and eventually worked his way up to becoming a Captain.

In New York City, he operated a private charter boat, running tours around Manhattan and to the Statue of Liberty.

Chef Aneta Siwiec

Originally from Brooklyn, NY Aneta was raised by parents who prioritized travel – she had her first passport at two months old! Growing up in NYC she was surrounded by all the different types of cuisines available to her right down the block. This and her travels have inspired her cooking and love for food. She likes to take inspiration from the surrounding culture and environment. Onboard you will find combinations of Caribbean, Southeast Asian and European flavours. Her dream has been to one day open a restaurant (already has a full menu created for her concept since in college).

Aneta has a marketing degree with a minor in fine arts from Pace University. She has studied abroad in Australia, lived and backpacked throughout New Zealand and worked in Denali National Park in Alaska. She has circumnavigated Manhattan by kayak, guided kayak trips on the East River, and ran the NYC marathon twice. She is also on track to become a Divemaster before the 2022/23 season. Her most exciting diving experience so far was swimming with Tiger Sharks and schools of Hammerheads in Cocos Islands.

Before joining the charter industry, she had worked in NYC for 5 years as an event and hospitality coordinator where she curated luxury travel experiences and events that went into auction throughout the US. She loves the tourism industry and being involved in creating memorable vacations for her guests.

Luxury Crewed Charter Rates

The Horizon Yacht Charters BVI Crewed Charter rates are for 7 nights per vessel and are based on the number of guests. Please see individual yacht pages for detailed specifications and charter rates. Horizon Yacht Charters luxury crewed yacht charters come complete with your own personal Captain & Chef (and in the larger yachts, first mate and hostess).  NB some yachts may be skipper only (with the option of a chef) – they are stated as such. Your meals aboard are included in the rate and prepared to your group’s individual preferences and dietary requirements. Beverages are also included but please note special requests for specific brands may be subject to an additional charge.  Watersports equipment (such as paddleboards, kayaks etc) are also included and some yachts offer all-inclusive diving.

High season rates typically apply from December to April, and Low season from May to November, but please do check the seasonal rates for your yacht.

Each individual crewed yacht may charge for certain additional expenses (e.g. National Park Permit, Cruising permit, different port collections or departures).  Please ask for a full breakdown of costs for your chosen yacht. Additional supplements may apply at Christmas and New Year.

All yachts come with tenders with outboards and safety equipment. Please review the individual yacht specification on our website for further details of available equipment and details of inclusions and exclusions.

Charter Rates shown above are for 7 nights per vessel (Christmas and New Year supplements on selected yachts). Crewed Charters usually start at noon and finish at noon, but please do check times for your particular yacht.

An Environmental levy of $10 per head is payable by all visitors to the BVI on arrival (effective 1st Sept 2017).

Bookings and Cancellations  – We require a 50% deposit to confirm the reservation and the balance due of 50% no later than 45 days prior to charter start date. A smaller deposit and interim fee may be acceptable for bookings made more than 12 months in advance. Cancellation fees apply, and vary from yacht-to-yacht. Please check the specific terms for your yacht at the time of booking.

The Foundation

The Voodoo hull design is a wave-piercing, partially planing displacement hull, with a very low draft and drag coefficient. At 57 feet she is one of the largest catamarans in the world with outboard engines.  Generally vessels this size have large inboard engines which require a lot of space, fire safety equipment, rudders and steering mechanics increasing draft and drag. Voodoo has no rudders and no machinery space at all as our power plants are outside the vessel making her very safe.

Fuel Efficiency

This vessel is very fuel efficient for her size. Voodoo is mostly carbon fiber making her very light. The outboard diesel engines are state of the art and provide immense fuel savings over conventional gas engines.

The design includes using 17″ custom Sharrow Marine propellers. These props generate another 17-20% fuel savings over conventional models and give us more low end, mid-range and top end speeds, as well as less cavitation and vibration.

Accessibility and Adaptability

Voodoo will be equipped with ballast tanks in the forward bow compartments. From the helm, the Captain can fill the tanks with sea water rapidly to adjust the trim of the boat.

Another unique feature is that she is designed to be driven onto the beach for easy unloading of passengers with her 34” wide bow stairs. These stairs will allow guests with mobility issues to easily board the vessel from the beach or from the water after snorkeling.

The ballast tanks assist with beaching by allowing the Captain to make the bow lighter for beach entry and then filling the tanks once she is set. The extra weight keeps her from shifting in the surf making it much safer for guests. Once passengers are on board the Captain can empty the tanks to easily back off the beach.

The bottom of the hulls are reinforced with 16 layers of carbon fiber and then covered in sacrificial fiberglass. 

The interior of Voodoo is very unconventional. Our goal is for our guests to feel like they are in a lounge not a passenger ferry. Every seat is covered in 3” foam custom cushions with large sunbrella pillows allowing guests maximum comfort. The layout allows for plentiful seating in all areas of the vessel.

On the port side, the seating is arranged surrounding an island so guests can face each other and enjoy a beverage or cocktail and conversation with friends. There is ample seating inside the salon with space for 23 guests to sit comfortably. The starboard portion of the salon features an open feel with a large custom bar, more seating and plenty of stainless steel hand holds so guests can stand underway in comfort even in rough sea conditions.

Voodoo is equipped with two large comfortable bathrooms with a seating area outside each. The stern of the vessel has an outdoor seating area which accommodates up to 6 guests, a wide ladder for ascending to the flybridge and water access on each sugar scoop. The upper deck has seating for 14 guests and a large sunbed. The helm is designed so that guests can sit next to the Captain and be a part of the action. In total, Voodoo has seating for 43 guests and enough interior space for all 49 passengers, ensuring comfort no matter the weather.

The foredeck of Voodoo can be accessed from the sides of the vessel, directly from the salon or from the flybridge. This allows for a smooth functional flow even with larger parties. The foredeck features two large trampolines and bean bags for lounging, as well as retractable stairs to easily access the beach and water. The boat will also feature carbon fiber underwater swings. These swings will hang from the forward crossbeam between the hulls and allow guests to sit just one foot in the water in the shade of the trampolines.

Voodoo Charters aims to make boating in the Virgin Islands as comfortable as possible, and also wants to make the booking process easy and smooth. From booking to checking in and closing out, we aim to make this aspect of excursions as pain-free as possible.

We were a family party of 12 people, 5 children aged 5-13, 6 adults and our 90 year old Nan. We stepped on board and were blown away by the quality and cleanliness of the boat…we were offered drinks and snacks straight away with a great choice of soft drinks, wines, beers and water….and were quickly shown how we could connect up some music to get the party started a little. The onboard toilet was also spotlessly clean. Emilio our captain took us to the most beautiful spot where we got to see dolphins playing in the sea, a real treat for the whole family to watch and then we made our way further down the coast where 2 jet skis had been arranged for us. Carlos and Emilio then helped us to enjoy paddle boards and jet skis for just over an hour and it was no problem for us to swap over people as often as we wanted, with everyone getting a chance to enjoy the fun. I think they were surprised by Nan’s request to ride a jet ski and her overall zest for life and my 5 year old had her first ever jet ski ride too. It was then time for us to head back and on the way we were offered fresh fruit and more drinks. All in all we felt totally spoiled…and relaxed. Priceless. We decided on a 3 hour charter as we were a little worried that the children would get bored but in hindsight we probably wish we had booked at least 4 hours as the time just flew by. There was something special about it finishing and leaving us wanting more though. The boat was immaculate and had so much space for us all.
