SUNNY is a popular Horizon EP69 that was built in 2012. This exceptional motor yacht perfectly blends long-range capabilities with amenities that make her an entertainer’s dream. She boasts a sophisticated expedition styled exterior as well as a bulbous bow.

The luxury motor yacht showcases a contemporary yet timeless interior styling. The space is adorned with high-gloss Cherry wood and granite countertops creating a warm and welcoming ambiance. The exterior exudes graceful elegance with its sweeping lines. The deck is unusually clean and completely flushed forward of the mast. The 14.8 cubic meters of deck locker spaces are huge. The long cockpit has two L-shaped sofas, a large and solid wooden cockpit table in high-gloss varnish. There is an optional cockpit fridge. The cockpit is well protected by the Hallberg-Rassy-typical windshield with folding softtop or hardtop. The helmsman’s position is unexposed and has good protection through a proper coaming around.

ONE-LEVEL INTERIOR

The interior is located on one level from bow to stern, important for moving freely, whether it is while sailing or at anchor or in port. There is an unusual amount of natural light, with eight hull portlights. You sit in the saloon and look out through the large hull portlights. They provide full contact with the outside world, while blinds can easily be pulled down if transparency or sunlight is not desired. A person of normal height looks upright through the large saloon portlights. The interior design options enables a walk-in closet, a cabin for a deckhand, and VIP guest cabins.

WALK-IN ENGINE ROOM

The engine is unusually well-dimensioned, even for a Hallberg-Rassy. It is a 6-cylinder Volvo Penta D6-300 of 300 hp with a high and flat torque with an increadible 790 Newton meters of torque at 2,100 rpm.

The engine room is large and has room for lots of technical equipment. It is also well sound insulated and easily accessible for service and maintenance.

Nothing but a floating hard-top stands between you and unabashed sunshine up on the flybridge. On this vast deck there is space to aft for tender storage with a Steelhead Marine davit and a chunky upholstered sunpad ideal for sun-kissed afternoons. Further forward you will discover a U-shaped dining sofa surrounding a bespoke timber table as well as a walk-in wet-bar with a grill, chilled storage, stone countertops, a serving bar and a set of leather-lined stools. Up front there’s a port-side helm station for outdoor piloting with an elemental vibe.

A wrap-around side-deck with a Portuguese Bridge on the foredeck, steel guardrails and extensive teak brightwork sit under a structural overhang for convenient access as you make your way across the main-deck. Head to the aft-deck to encounter a wide transom sofa and a dining table as well as side steps down to a full-beam fixed swim platform and access into a stern-side crew quarters with private facilities. Sliding glass doors open up to reveal a main-deck salon with curved high-gloss timber cabinetry, mullioned side windows, a teak sole, grain-matched wood surrounds, leather furnishings and granite accents. Superb visibility is afforded out of forward-sloping mullioned windows, while a starboard skipper’s door leads out to the sidedeck.

Lower-deck cabins match your long-range ambitions, making plenty of room for relaxation and storage. A bunk-berth to starboard comes with a closet and an en-suite, while a VIP stateroom by the bow features two full-height lockers, a double bed and a vast bathroom with a shower. A full-beam master stateroom amidship boasts a double-width armoire, a queen-sized bed, bedside cabinets and a semi-open bathroom lined in marble and timber with separate head and wet-room shower stall hidden behind frosted glass doors.

A pair of 560HP MAN diesel engines deliver a top speed of just over 12 knots, while at an 8 knot cruising pace you will enjoy offshore voyages of up to 1,600 nautical miles thanks to an efficient fiberglass hull and a 2,360 gallon fuel capacity.

69 Marquis Motor Yacht Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

Greetings from Miami, Florida. I’m Patrick Hopkins with Denison Yachting and today I’d like to welcome aboard MINX, a 2007 Marquis 690 . This yacht has a 4 state stateroom layout and is replete with creature comforts. Whether you’re just going for a slow cruise on Biscayne Bay with friends or you prefer to pack up the family and head for the Bahamas, this marquis 690 is the perfect platform.

We’re going to start today’s walk through here on the swim platform. The retractable platform houses this 12-foot AB tender. Just to port are your 250 amp shore power cords on Glendinning reels. Back here, we have access to the crew cabin as well as your primary engine access. As we pass through this watertight door immediately to starboard is your full-size berth. And to port an electric head, shower, and sink. Rounding out this space is a Bosch washer/dryer combo unit.

Let’s move forward into the engine room here we have a pair of MTU-12v 2000s. This engine package pushes MINX through the water at an easy cruise of 20-knots. She’ll reach a maximum speed of 28-knots at 2300 RPM. From here let’s step up into the cockpit.

With teak underfoot which ends at the side decks, we approach one of my favorite items on any boat — an aft docking station. Even today, as we left the slip and return, this was the preferred station for docking. There is a centerline table with fixed seating aft and these four removable chairs just forward. By adding a few chairs, this space can comfortably seat eight.

One of the things that makes this space a guest favorite is the molded hardtop that provides shade to this area. Integrated into the hardtop are JL audio speakers and LED lighting. From here follow me forward to the bow.

Note that there are side decks both port and starboard that converge at this yacht’s foredeck. What I like about this design is the clever use of space by these compartments to port and starboard that are perfect for housing lines and fenders. Also found in this area are large stainless steel cleats, ground tackle, and a raw water wash-down.

Making our way back aft and into the cockpit we slide open this large salon door. To keep pace with the freshness of this space, her owners have added these 3 white leather lounge chairs as well as this white leather sofa. The pop-up LED smart TV is connected to an Intellian — i6 satellite and is complemented by the Yamaha surround sound turning this space into a rainy day oceanside cinema. It’s hard to miss these gorgeous hardwood floors that were just installed in 2019.

Seamlessly we transition over to the galley which is on the port side. There’s a newly added stainless steel oversized refrigerator with two freezer drawers. Moving forward a microwave convection oven, a 3-burner cooktop with a hood, a 2-basin sink and a Miele dishwasher. As you see it in its stored position the dinette is all the way to starboard. When being used for interior dining, this table easily slides the port allowing dinner guests plenty of room to get in and out from behind the table.

As we exit the galley one step up we arrive at the lower helm with the radial settee offset to port. This is a comfortable seating area where you can keep the captain company. Centerline is a captain’s chair and a helm station that is a duplicate of the one on the flybridge.

This space is complete with a Raymarine E120 multi-function display, engine monitors, and autopilot. Directly below to port is your main 12-volt switch panel, spotlight remote and monitor for the aft deck and engine room camera. To starboard, there is a VHF, balance stern thruster controls as well as your MTU throttle controls.

Perhaps the most dynamic control here at the helm is the yacht controller. This option allows you to dock the boat from anywhere aboard. With the yacht controller in hand, you can get a closer look at your docking situation by walking out of this motorized starboard door.

Leaving the helm and moving forward down the starboard staircase, we arrive in the first of four staterooms — the forward VIP. Here, we have a centerline berth, hanging lockers to port and starboard, a TV, surround sound, and symmetric hull side windows. The VIP has an ensuite head to starboard with a full stand-up shower.

Leaving the VIP and moving aft, we arrive in the portside stateroom. This stateroom is very practical with double berths and an additional third Pullman bunk. This stateroom is complete with a TV and a hanging locker. From the stateroom, you have ensuite access to the dayhead with a full stand-up shower.

Moving aft into starboard we arrive in the bunk stateroom, which is just one step outside of the master. Following the lower guest companionway, all the way aft, we arrive at the master stateroom. This full-beam midship master has a king-sized berth to port.

There’s plenty of storage in the stateroom complemented by this large walk-in closet. Turning our attention to the starboard side, we have a love seat which is next to this cabin’s TV. This room also features blackout shades for those who prefer to sleep in. The sizable ensuite contains a vanity, a bidet and a shower stall with a tub. From here follow me back to the main deck.

A rare but great feature for a boat in this class is this interior staircase that leads up to the flybridge. This is the final stop on today’s walkthrough. All the way aft is this open deck space with an aft-facing seat and a great place to set up deck chairs or chaise lounges. This spot is perfect if you want to be out in the sun.

Turning our attention forward, let’s now step underneath this newly installed white bimini top. To starboard, we have an L-shaped dinette which is a great place to catch up with friends over cocktails whether you are underway or just hanging at the dock.

Those cocktails I reference, can be made at the adjacent summer galley. This summer galley is equipped with an icemaker, refrigerator, sink and plenty of storage. All the way forward on the flybridge are these three captains’ chairs that face the upper helm.

The helm here is a duplicate of what we saw below but the obvious difference is that of the environment. When you think boating, there’s just something that draws you to be outside not to mention the incredible visibility from this vantage point.

McKinna 69 Series Pilothouse Motoryacht

There are two ways to look at the new McKinna 69 Series Pilothouse Motoryacht: as a really large 69-footer and as a really large 60-footer. If that sounds contradictory, it’s really not.

That’s because both the 60 Series and the 69 Series start with the same hull. Designed by Howard Apollonio to work equally well as both a 60-footer and a 69-footer, the only real difference between the two boats is the addition of a 9-foot cockpit extension.

The 69 Series Pilothouse that you see on these pages is really a “stretch” version of McKinna’s 60-footer, which is available in an open bridge, hardtop, and skylounge version. Those same options apply to the 69-footer, so you can mix or match your arrangement to fit your needs. No matter how you cut it, this new yacht provides a remarkable amount of interior room, regardless of the length.

Unless I were forced to stay with a 60-footer because of docking constraints, I’d opt for the longer McKinna just because she gives you so much for a relatively small cost increase. That 145 square-foot cockpit allows you to install a fighting chair if you want to do some offshore fishing, and it provides a “beach” area for swimming, snorkeling, or diving. It makes access to and from the tender easier, and it provides a secure access to the engineroom even when you’re offshore. You can even add a swim platform or a tender lift to carry the tender aft.

Once you go up the wide curving stairway from the cockpit, however, you have the same spacious luxury as the McKinna 60. While the McKinna hull is from Howard Apollonio, the interior and styling is by Juan Carlos Espinosa, who made the most of the 18-foot, 7-inch beam (wider than many boats in this class) to create a spacious saloon that still allows for comfortably sized walk-around side decks.

If ordered as a 69-footer, the raised afterdeck becomes a California deck overlooking the cockpit, and serves as a transition area between saloon and cockpit. There is a settee on one side, wide steps to the flying bridge, plus room for a barbecue-although that’s better placed on the bridge.

In a thoughtful break with tradition, McKinna has placed a day head to starboard, with direct access to the after deck and the cockpit. It’s a design feature that is so useful I’ll be surprised if more builders don’t seize upon the idea. Besides, it takes advantage of an otherwise wasted corner of the saloon (how many china cabinets do you really need?).

The interior of this particular McKinna, from East Coast dealer Generation Marine of Ft. Lauderdale, was finished in a pleasant African cherry for the look of a men’s club, but American cherry, anigre, and teak are also available. The saloon is designed for entertaining and as a media room, with an L-shaped settee to port, a pair of barrel chairs opposite, and a pop-up television in the cabinetry. Should you want to use the saloon for meals, the coffee table cranks up to dining height.

Of particular note are the large windows, which provide a great view even when seated, and contribute to the general airiness of the saloon. I also liked the pull-out trays, like those in professional sound studios that provide access to the entertainment components.

Adding to the feeling of space is the absence of a pilothouse bulkhead, so the entire main deck is open from the cockpit sliding doors to the pilothouse windows. Up two steps is the pilothouse level, which has the galley, another built-in settee with table, and, of course, the helm.

Granite counters are standard in the galley, as are the four undercounter U-Line refrigerator/freezer drawers and the teak-and-holly sole for easy cleaning. There’s a drawer-style dishwasher and ample cabinets, including overhead lockers for food and cookware.

Anyone who plans to cruise short-handed will appreciate the pantograph pilothouse door that allows direct access to the side and foredecks. The skipper is also provided with a hand-held third station control so he can move around on deck while docking or anchoring.

Another unique feature of the McKinna 69 Pilothouse is that the owner’s suite, located amidships for minimum motion, has a private entry from the saloon. You don’t usually see this in yachts of this size, and even larger yachts often save space by making one stairway serve both guest and master cabins.

I like the privacy afforded by the separate entry, especially in a yacht where the guest cabins share a single head forward. That layout always results in a certain amount of door-banging early in the morning. No owner, on departing his own stateroom, wants to encounter a guest with a toothbrush- filled mouth in the hallway.

The master suite uses the wide beam to advantage, placing the head on the starboard side, a vanity/desk to port, and a centerline berth facing aft. The large master head has a marble countertop and sole, with an oversize shower and Grohe fixtures. The VIP stateroom is forward, with a queen-size berth and built-in lockers and drawers. There is direct access to the head without leaving the cabin, and the spacious marble-lined head has a shower.

A convertible guest stateroom is to port, with both a lower double and upper single berth for kids, or the area can be arranged as an office with a single berth. The guest foyer also has a hidden stacked washer/ dryer for extended family cruises.

Aside from the cockpit decision, the bridge area offers the most owner choices on the McKinna 69. In the simplest (and least expensive) form, the open bridge is the base point but, in today’s sunburn-wary world, every owner will want to add a canvas Bimini top for protection.

Considering the cost of such a Bimini, which will also need replacement in the future, it’s a no-brainer to opt for the fiberglass hardtop. Some companies get by with makeshift hardtops, but McKinna isn’t one of them. The McKinna hardtop is a stylish extension from the radar arch, and it’s beautifully finished underneath with lights and speakers. It also makes a full enclosure an inviting option, which creates an allseason bridge capable of use in rain and tropic sun, cold, or heat.

The fully enclosed Skylounge is a third option, which gives you a more durable bridge with sliding windows and an after door. I would suspect that McKinna will sell a number of Skylounges to people who first talk themselves from the open bridge to the hardtop, then to the hardtop enclosure and, finally thinking “might as well,” into the Skylounge.

Whatever the enclosure choice, the bridge layout remains basically the same, with a fiberglass centerline helm console that duplicates the lower helm (in this case, with a Raymarine E-120 screen) and a doublewide helm seat. Just aft to starboard is a wraparound lounge seat with table and a settee is to port opposite the helm.

Back on deck, the wide beam makes for side decks that are comfortably sized and, with high bulwarks capped by stainless steel rails, secure in a seaway. I haven’t seen the McKinna by night but, judging by the number of LED lights scattered around the decks and walkways, it would be extremely well illuminated.

Forward, there is the ubiquitous sunpad on the foredeck, this time with an iPod docking station for private music. The anchor windlass is tucked under the deck so the foredeck is kept clear, and there are oversize cleats with properly placed hawse pipes.

Access to the engineroom is through a watertight pantograph door off the cockpit. A compartment on the port side is an engineering and electrical flat, with the batteries, stacked 4 kW inverters, isolation transformers, and room for added gear that might not like the heat of the engineroom.

Another watertight door leads to the engineroom, where there is an astounding 6 feet, 8 inches of headroom as well as plenty of room to get around the twin 1,000-hp Caterpillar C18 diesels. With molded non-slip flooring, this is a service technician’s dream come true.

It’s also where you’ll see how thoughtfully and completely the Mc-Kinna has been equipped as a standard yacht, not just in the plasma TVs and galley appliances, but in the gear that is really important-the Wesmar bow thruster and stabilizers, the five-zone air conditioning, and the twin generators. The McKinna is delivered with a 21.5 kW Onan generator in a sound shield plus a night-use genset, an Onan 9 kW, also in a sound shield.

Construction on the McKinna uses well-proven technology with a solid fiberglass hull of vinylester resin for blister protection, Core-Cell reinforcing rather than wood or balsa, and Kevlar, which is used in high-load areas such as window frames throughout the yacht.

We didn’t get a chance to measure the range of speeds because of a dinged prop that would have skewed the results but, with the props in tune, this McKinna 69 topped 23 knots with full fuel and nine people aboard.

Whether you call it a big 60-footer or a big 69-footer, it’s likely that you’ll be impressed by the styling and the construction of the new McKinna 69 Series Pilothouse Motoryacht.
