Reina Boats Houseyacht

“Houseyachts” will be the next big trend in marine—if Reina Boats has anything to say about it, that is. The nascent U.S. outfit is launching a new line of vessels this fall that can serve as both yachts and luxury homes.

The pair didn’t just duplicate the “outdated” floating homes of the past, though. They set about designing a sleek vessel that would appeal to a new wave of discerning yachters.

“The existing houseboats were stuck in the design of the 1980s, and almost 90 percent of the houseboats on the water were commercially rented vessels,” Günal said. “They were boats that yacht and catamaran owners would never consider buying.”

The line includes five models that run the gamut from a utilitarian “floating RV” to a lavish two-story overwater condo. Ranging from 26 to 60 feet, the fleet members pair upscale decor and high-quality furniture with top-tier appliances and smart-home technology.

Reina’s houseboats aren’t restricted to lakes and canals, either. The fleet has met the U.S. Coast Guard standards and can take to the open seas. Crafted from marine-grade aluminum, the vessels have a similar hull design to a catamaran and should be as equally sturdy. Each one is powered by the latest generation of Mercury outboards that are reportedly greener than other conventional engines.

“They are fuel-efficient, remarkably quiet, and operate smoothly,” Günal adds. “They also are certified with an Ultra Low Emissions rating from the California Air Resources Board (CARB).”

On top of that, seafarers can choose batteries as an alternative power source instead of a generator to further reduce emissions.

Types of Houseboats: Different Home Styles for Living on the Water

10th may 2023 by toi williams.

Rightboat logo

Houseboats have become popular in many places due to the attraction of living so close to the water and the many different types available. Houseboats are built in an array of styles and materials, but all types will have a stateroom that serves as your bedroom, a galley, head, and saloon (those are the kitchen, bathroom, and living room if you’re not familiar with nautical lingo).

Most houseboats also have a helm, a bridge, and a navigation station, although not all of them, as we’ll explain as we explore the differences among different types of houseboats.

Main Types of Houseboats

Whether adapted for canals, lakes, or harbors, houseboats fall into two main categories: cruising and non-cruising.

Cruising houseboats

Cruising houseboats can travel on the water and are typically powered by sails or an engine. They are designed to be used in bodies of water that don’t get too rough, like lakes and rivers, and generally they are not suitable for open water or high seas. They are typically viewed as vacation vessels, although boaters sometimes choose to reside on them full time.

Cruising houseboats can be equipped with a wide range of conveniences that make them feel more like an apartment and less like a boat, but they are also popular with families who use them as a platform for a variety of water activities and excursions. They also serve as homes for some anglers who enjoy taking the comforts of home with them on leisurely fishing trips.

Non-cruising houseboats

Houseboats that remain stationary are sometimes called non-cruising or static houseboats. These boats generally lack a means of propulsion, but they are large enough and stable enough to outfit with the comforts of a land-based home. They are often moored or anchored semi-permanently at piers and marinas.

People who choose to live on the water all the time often pick a non-cruising houseboat as their residence. Non-cruising houseboats tend to be larger than cruising houseboats, with enough space for storage and custom features. They are typically plugged in at a marina with internet, electrical and other utilities.

Houseboat Categories

Canal-style houseboats.

Particularly popular in Europe, canal-style houseboats , sometimes called narrowboats, have a flat bottom and deck that rises slightly upward so the front of the boat is higher than the rear of the boat. This lets the owner easily tie off on banks and docks, and use ramps or steps to disembark. Canal-style houseboats are specifically built to be used in canals and similar waterways.

Canal-style houseboats are smaller than other types, so they have less space for storage, but they are easier to move from place to place. Access to electricity and communication is achieved through a combination electrical/telephone junction box that is typically situated near the bow of the boat.

Pontoon houseboats

Houseboats built on pontoons combine the features of a pontoon boat and a typical houseboat to give boaters the best of both worlds. They are designed with two large pontoons connected by a structural grid and deck with the "house" on top. Typically made out of aluminum, they can also consist of other materials, and they make the boat stable and easy to operate. They are designed to require little maintenance, which makes these boats relatively more affordable than some other styles.

Pontoon houseboats' ease of movement makes them great for vacations and exploring new areas. They are available in a variety of sizes from small enough to comfortably hold a couple of people to large enough to contain full kitchens and bathrooms. They can also be customized with various features to make them suitable for longer excursions, including fishing, kayaking, and other water-based activities.

Floating-home houseboat

The floating-home houseboat is a stationary style commonly used for residential living. These non-cruising houseboats are designed to float on pontoons or barge-like hulls while moored to remain in one place. Often they are connected to local sewer and utility lines.

When you compare different types of houseboats, floating-home houseboats are some of the most economical and energy-efficient options available. Then again, that’s often because these houseboats have no self-propulsion or steerage capabilities.

Because these houseboats are mainly used as primary residences, they are often found in communities of like-minded individuals who enjoy life on the water. The Seattle waterfront is well known for such communities.

Catamaran-style houseboats

A catamaran-style houseboat combines the features of a catamaran and a regular houseboat to boost stability and comfort. Instead of a single hull, this design features two long narrow hulls connected by a platform on which the structure of the house sits, similar to some pontoon houseboats. The boats can be made from aluminum, fiberglass, or wood, and typically range between 30 feet and 50 feet in length.

The benefits of choosing a catamaran-style houseboat include good stability, efficient handling, and easier docking. The style is one of the most fuel-efficient types of houseboats, and they often have more storage space than other houseboat styles. There is also more room for amenities for those seeking a luxury experience.

Full-hull houseboat

A full-hull houseboat is one of the most common types of houseboat and has a solid hull made out of a single material, typically molded fiberglass, often reinforced with wood for extra strength. The superstructure, or “house,” is often built from separately molded fiberglass segments and bolted or fiberglassed to the hull. Finally, the boat is fitted out with additional mechanical boat systems plus what you’d expect to find in any house, from wiring and insulation to hardwood floors and custom decor.

Full-hull houseboats are often built with vertical dimensions that provide larger living spaces and storage spaces than other styles of houseboats of similar area. Additional storage space can be found below the deck. Various features can be added to further customize the houseboat to make it more comfortable.

Barge-style houseboats

Barge-style houseboats are some of the largest houseboats available. Boats of this style can be found in both cruising and non-cruising models. They are built with a shallow depth so that they can easily move through shallow water. They are often picked for their low maintenance requirements.

When boaters compare different types of houseboats for families, a barge-style houseboat is often chosen for its ample space. Some models accommodate up to 10 people comfortably. In addition to giving each member of the group some space, barge-style houseboats can be outfitted with amenities that make them cozier homes. Some have full kitchens and bathrooms, and some have a washer and dryer on board.

Trailerable houseboats

Trailerable houseboats are some of the smallest houseboats available and among the most versatile and affordable due to their size. However, for the same reasons, they aren’t necessarily the best boat to take the place of your current house ashore.

Long and narrow, trailerable houseboats can be towed on a trailer attached behind a powerful vehicle and stored in a large garage. Recent models like the 31-foot Lil Hobo have a catamaran hull and trailer in a fashion similar to an RV. Trailerable houseboats are constructed of aluminum, fiberglass, steel, and even wood. This style of houseboat is often used in lakes, rivers, and intracoastal waters, but is not well-equipped to handle more open water.

Once you've launched one, a trailerable houseboats is usually maneuverable, powered by one or two outboard engines, and is good for trips to out-of-the-way places. They may accommodate four people, but quarters are tight for living aboard over the long term. Smaller size means less room for amenities, so owners have to carefully consider what features to add. They also have limited storage space for your other comforts.

River houseboats

River houseboats are designed to be completely self-sufficient and are built with ample living space. They are typically chosen by families or groups of friends, with some models having a capacity of up to 20 people to enjoy an afternoon aboard. However, there are also smaller models better suited to small groups with overnight accommodations for two or four people.

River houseboats are typically constructed of fiberglass, making them sturdy vessels. They can be found in both cruising and non-cruising styles, and offer excellent accommodations with many amenities. River houseboats are available at every price point from economical to luxury, and many can be customized with additional features.

river houseboat

Yachts are really the only type of "houseboat" designed to be used in more open waters, and they typically fall into the category of trawler (power) or bluewater cruiser (sail). Equipped with diesel engines and/or well-built sails, their hulls are designed to perform well in rough water and are typically made of fiberglass or, sometimes, aluminum or steel.

Some cruisers live on their yachts a full-time, but their main appeal is a high-level of fit and finish, plus the ability to literally cruise the world. Depending on their size and design, some are built with multi-level staterooms, multiple heads (bathrooms), extensive galleys, and large gathering areas. Some high-end models in the superyacht category (over 100 feet in length) also have helipads, discos, spas, and an opening transom that gives access to all manner of water toys.

Luxury houseboats

Luxury houseboats may have price tags similar to yachts in that they are usually larger than typical houseboats and are built with numerous luxury features. These often include air conditioning, dishwashers, grills, and granite countertops. They are often in the non-cruising category, parked at the water’s edge as a comfortable floating house, sometimes two-stories high.

Some are motorized, however, and may be a heavily customized vessel that started life as a working commercial boat as a shipping barge or cargo ship, on a busy waterway in a country like the U.K. or the Netherlands.

The story behind Benetti: The House of Yachting

As one of the oldest shipyards in the world, Benetti describes itself as The House of Yachting to encapsulate its 150 years of history, experience, tradition, and knowledge. Benetti’s legacy includes some of the world’s most recognisable yachts, including Spectre , Freedom (ex: Reverie ) and Soundwave (ex: 11.11) , that have been created by leading designers, such as Giorgio Cassetta and Stefano Natucci.

“The House of Yachting should not be understood as a proper brand per sé,” says Marco Valle, the Azimut | Benetti Group’s CEO. “It is a way of describing the shipyard which contains a promise to its clients and partners. Benetti has such a presence in the yachting industry because it is The House of Yachting, and that is what has allowed the shipyard to develop such a unique and valuable offering.”

Founded in 1873

Benetti’s impact on the superyacht sector is monumental, with 362 yachts measuring over 24 metres delivered to date according to BOATPro. One yacht that proved to be a huge turning point for the brand was the 86-metre Nabila. The largest and most extravagant superyacht on the water when she was launched in 1980 she set new standards in the sector. The build ultimately led to financial trouble for the build, but this then opened the door for Paolo Vitelli to purchase the brand.

Now more than 40 years later, this milestone has been followed by a myriad of modern-day successes, which have all contributed to Azimut | Benetti Group’s status as the world’s most extensive yacht and megayacht network.

In 2016, Benetti took a bold initiative to create a building hub dedicated to the construction of yachts over 80 meters. From this shed came the likes of the 107-metre Luminosity , 107-metre Lana and 108-metre IJE – the trio of yachts delivered in 100 days in 2020 that broke Benetti’s 100-metre barrier and set a new record for the industry.

More recently, the Benetti B.Yond 37M established itself as the greenest model in its class. The technologically forward and revolutionary semi-custom design features four decks and a steel hull powered by a hybrid system.

Not just a builder

While expanding its portfolio, Benetti accrued the knowledge and ability to meet increasingly innovative and demanding orders. Time and time again, the yard delivers on its highly-engineered naval platform with beautiful finishes, future-proof decor and technology – all of which benefits from Benetti’s rich history, experience and heritage.

“Benetti is not just tradition, it is also continuous innovation, a constant effort to put its deep knowledge at play to anticipate the desires of its owners and the latest trends on the market,” explains Valle. “The House of Yachting’s purpose is to set Benetti’s all-encompassing standard as a benchmark in the global luxury yachting scene.”

Another contributor to The House of Yachting’s high standards is the yard’s cooperation with brilliant architects and designers. Since the 1980s, Benetti saw a rising evolution in size and complexity of the yachts, which demanded input and expertise from the likes of Sinot Yacht Design, Bannenberg & Rowell Design, RWD, Cor D. Rover, Bonetti/Kozersky and Studio Lazzarini Pickering. As a result, Benetti was able to become one of the most versatile and innovative builders that delivered on design and functionality in a uniquely recognisable style.

Benetti’s Order Book

Today, Benetti reports a full order book until 2027, filled with a variety of custom builds and yachts from its five-category fleet: Class, B.Yond, Oasis and B.NOW. With 58 upcoming superyacht deliveries recorded on BOATPro, Benetti’s two sites in Viareggio and Livorno are working non-stop.

“There are more than 200 suppliers in our supply chain, and we have developed a relationship of value and trust with each one of them,” explains Valle. “We involve our partners in all of our future projects so that we can keep growing together.”

A superyacht ordered with Benetti can take up to five years to be completed. For Benetti owners, the wait is nothing short of worthwhile. “Our owners are lovers of beauty, deep connoisseurs of aesthetics and art, with very clear ideas about the design and technologies they want on board and are therefore willing to wait longer to have their Benetti yacht,” explains Valle.

“They identify with our values and know that we can guarantee them very high-quality standards. They know that Benetti is able to respond to any of their wishes because we guarantee thorough control over every phase of the project – from design to the realisation of every smallest detail – following them step by step at every stage, including after sales.”

Nautical success

The Azimut | Benetti Group is the world’s largest superyacht builder by total length of yachts under construction in BOAT International’s Global Order Book , and has been since 1999. The secret to this success? “We do really believe that one of the reasons for our success as The House of Yachting lies in our origins,” says Valle. “Benetti has its roots in Tuscany, in what is still today one of the main hubs of the yachting industry, while at the same time being the cradle of art.”

“Being this close to cities such as Florence, Pisa, and Siena, just to mention a few, has certainly influenced the development of this concept of elegant beauty that we want to embody in our yachts and that our owners have come to appreciate and recognise,” he adds.

Houseboats Get A New, Modern Upgrade As 'HouseYachts'

Boat maker reina boats is betting that “houseyachts” will become the next big thing..

Reina Hotel M32

Houseboats were very popular. From people that actually used them as their full- time residence to families on vacation, it was sort of cool to actually reside on the water. But as the years went on they started to look and feel… old. One company is trying to bring houseboats into the 21st Century by reinventing them entirely. Robb Report highlights how one boating company has come up with ‘houseyachts.’

Reina Boats has come up with a complete line of “houseyachts ”. In a statement , company founders Hayri Dayi and Emin Günal said that they came up with the idea of “houseyachts” during the pandemic after seeing a need for something that was spacious and stylish enough to live in that wasn’t still stuck in the past like houseboats of yore.

Many boats do not have the living space to provide all the accommodations and comforts people want. Power catamarans offer more volume but also have become quite expensive. That left houseboats as the only option,” Günal said. In researching the U.S. houseboat market, however, Günal and Dayi realized that the vessel designs largely were outdated. “The existing houseboats were stuck in the design of the 1980s, and almost 90 percent of the houseboats on the water were commercially rented vessels. They were boats that yacht and catamaran owners would never consider buying,” Günal said.

So the duo set about designing vessels that would be modern and appealing and surprisingly, something that wouldn’t “cost a mint.”

Reina Mini T4

Reina’s lineup consists of five models. At the bottom for those that dont need much space, you can go for something like the Reina Mini T4 , described as a “compact floating luxury home.” You get things like hardwood floors, deck area, private bathroom, living room and full kitchen in 24 feet of vessel.

Reina Live L44DR

If you want to go all out you can go for the Reina Live L44DR. The largest “houseyacht” model Reina offers, its a full two story floating condo.

Living area of the Reina Live L44 DR

Technically there are  two bedrooms, but those are made up of one huge master bedroom that splits into two and has enough room for five people; there’s a bathroom and shower and a c-shaped wraparound kitchen. Each model is equipped with the latest in smart home tech and high end appliances.

When its time to move these things, Reina says the ships meet U.S. Coast Guard standards, so they can float in any body of water, from lakes to the open ocean. They’re also described as green and fuel efficient, with engines that are rated as ultra low emissions from CARB (California Air Resources Board). They can also be equipped with batteries instead of on board generators if owners want to go greener.

Reina Boats plans to build its line of “houseyachts” in Turkey with the first model set to make its debut at Fort Lauderdale’s International Boat Show in October. Reina also isn’t talking pricing yet. Don’t count on them being cheap, but don’t count on them costing as much as a regular yacht either.

The Guide to Floating Homes and Houseboats

Here's what you need to know about foregoing life on land for a house that floats.

The Guide to Floating Homes

Floating houses are frequently sold along with their slip, and in many ways sell like a typical house.

Waterfront property certainly has its appeal. Access to the river, lake or ocean can provide endless enjoyment, especially if you're a person who likes getting out on the water. But have you considered living on the water itself?

There are a few options for making your next home on a boat or along a dock, from houseboats to a yacht or sailboat to a more permanently fixed floating house. Here's what you need to know before buying a floating home or houseboat.

What Is a Floating House?

A floating home is most often used to describe a house on the water that doesn't have a motor or navigation system, commonly docked among other floating homes. The hull is often made of concrete. Because they're not mobile under their own power, floating homes typically stay in one place long term and are permanently attached to electrical, water and sewer lines.

Floating homes "essentially are barges that houses are built into," says Scott Collins, who serves as public relations co-chair with his partner, Arleen Ma, for Floating Homes Association Inc. in Sausalito, California. The association located in Richardson Bay, which is north of San Francisco , is made up of a community of roughly 400 floating homes.

What Is a Houseboat?

Houseboats often have a more house-like look than a sailboat or yacht, with a rectangular structure to maximize space indoors. The hull is more often made of fiberglass, steel or aluminum, and the motor and navigation systems mean a houseboat can travel on its own and be hooked up to side systems in a marina slip for access to power and water.

However, you're less likely to use a houseboat for day trips down the river or out onto the lake. Bill Drage, principal owner of houseboat manufacturing company East Coast Houseboats, says that most of his clients plan to keep their houseboat dockside at all times.

The size and shape of a houseboat makes it harder to direct than a yacht or sailboat – Drage says one client "said it was like moving a refrigerator across the water."

Other Boats as Residences

If you prefer the look of a more traditional boat to a houseboat or floating home, you can choose to live on just about anything you can afford as long as it's comfortable. Yachts, trawlers and some sailboats have enough space to live below deck.

If you're living on a powered boat or boathouse and primarily staying in a marina where you have a slip, know the marina's rules before claiming your boat as your permanent residence. Some marinas have a maximum number of nights allowed on board, while others are more amenable to full-time residents.

How to Buy a Floating Home or Houseboat

Floating homes are frequently sold along with their slip, and in many ways sell like a typical house. Real estate agents will list the property on the market like they would any home on land. In cities where floating house communities are established, you can often find floating home listings on Zillow, realtor.com or other consumer-facing real estate information sites.

However, a floating home cannot be purchased with a traditional mortgage . Floating home loans do exist and are more commonly offered by local banks and credit unions where floating home communities exist than a national bank or lender. Houseboat manufacturers, floating home builders and floating home communities can be a helpful resource for researching your loan options.

Financing a houseboat is the same as financing any other kind of boat, and it is considered a personal property loan.

If you're looking for a houseboat or another type of boat you can convert into your new home, websites for boat sales, houseboat and boat manufacturers and boat dealers are the best places to go.

How Much Does It Cost To Buy a Floating House or Houseboat?

Like with buying a house, floating homes and houseboats vary widely in cost to buy one. For a new houseboat from East Coast Houseboats, Drage says the range starts with a one-bedroom, 22-foot houseboat that starts under $90,000. At the higher end of the spectrum, a two-story houseboat that's 50 feet long and 16 feet wide goes for around $350,000.

Existing floating homes and houseboats on the market can be less than $100,000 and reach $1 million, depending on size, style, condition and location. If a slip comes included, you can naturally expect to pay more.

Floating Houses Have Additional Fees

Don't forget to factor in the monthly cost of keeping a slip or berth on the dock. Collins and Ma report berth fees to be a part of the Floating Homes Association in Richardson Bay can be hefty. "They can be expensive – they're over $1,000 a month. But the property taxes are not set up on the land, only on the dwelling. So your property taxes are less, but your berth fee is more," Collins says.

If you're living in a marina that isn't an established residential community, you may not be required to pay property taxes at all. Be sure to inquire with the marina as you calculate your bottom line.

What to Know About Maintaining a Floating House Houseboat

The amount of maintenance you'll find on a floating home or houseboat is similar to what you'll find in most homes, though how you maintain it may be a bit different.

When it comes to systems that don't operate exactly the same as a home on land, a person with experience working on floating houses is ideal. "Plumbing and electrical and painting – you really should have someone that specializes (in doing the work)," Collins says. In a floating home community, you're likely to find that those specialists are your neighbors.

With so much exposure to water, expect a bit more rust and warping as a result. "Wood and metal deteriorate literally in front of your eyes," Collins says.

Phyllis and Guy Biederman have been residents of Floating Homes Association Inc. on Richardson Bay for about nine years, and they note that regular maintenance issues would be most closely in tune with having a seaside home, because of the similar levels of exposure to salt water and weather coming off the water.

Because many floating homes have a concrete hull, it's important to check on the hull's condition and be diligent to repair any cracks that form. "It would be kind of like having a cracked foundation," says Guy Biederman, who teaches creative writing.

"Except houseboats can sink," adds Phyllis Biederman, a nurse.

Tips for Living on the Water

Here are a few additional tips to keep in mind before you forego life on land for a floating home or houseboat:

Get to know the neighbors. Especially if you're living in a community of houseboats or floating homes, you're likely to recognize your neighbors quickly, and even more likely to become close.

"The minute we moved here we received welcome gifts like flowers, cookies, books," Ma says of the Floating Homes Association community. "I thought, 'This would never happen in the city.'"

Less is more. Like with living in a tiny house, your storage on a floating home, houseboat or other kind of residence on the water will leave you with minimal storage space. To avoid the added cost of keeping a storage unit on land, get strict about how much you accumulate.

"Any time something comes into your house, something has to come out of your house," Collins says.

Prepare for plumbing inconvenience. Even if you're living dockside, plumbing on a floating home doesn't work the same as it does for a house on land – a pump that uses electricity is a key part of getting waste out of a holding tank that's part of your home and to the line that goes to the sewer.

"If the power goes out, which it can do quite a bit in the winter, you don't flush your toilet and you don't use your water," Guy Biederman says.

Try it out first. Life in a floating home isn't for everyone. Make sure it's a good fit by visiting friends who live on the water or sign up for a tour of a floating home community. Additionally, Drage says about 80% of his clientele right now are people purchasing houseboats to use as short-term rentals through services like Airbnb or VRBO, which can be an easy opportunity to try out dockside life for a couple nights – or even a couple weeks.

Former top Biden aide confirms reports of WH official's alleged bullying, sexual harassment of staffers

White house chief of staff says bidens have 'full confidence' in anthony bernal's character.

EXCLUSIVE: The reported actions of a top White House official that included allegations of longtime bullying and verbal sexual harassment of staffers are accurate, a former  top Biden aide  told Fox News Digital, who said the claims should trigger an internal investigation.

On Tuesday, the New York Post reported that first lady Jill Biden's top aide, Anthony Bernal, who is openly gay, has a history of questionable work conduct but is deemed "untouchable" because she views him as her "work husband."

Bernal, according to the report, has been known to speculate on the penis size of staffers in a move one of the publication's sources believed was to make people uncomfortable and gain the upper hand.

"It lines up with everything I experienced working there," the former top Biden aide, who wished to remain anonymous, told Fox News Digital of the report.

"I'm surprised it has taken this long for so many staffers to speak out," they said. "I wouldn't be shocked if this empowered current and past staff to move forward."

According  to the Post's report , two individuals said Bernal shared his theory that a person's thumb size correlates with their penis size. He allegedly did so in the current White House, in previous roles in the Biden campaign and during Biden's vice presidency.

"It is to make people uncomfortable and to have power over them," one source told the publication. "It is Me Too – classic Me Too."

Another source told the Post that Bernal had often speculated on the penis size of several individuals, including political aides and Secret Service agents.

A third added that before  Biden's presidency , Bernal told a colleague he had a small penis during a dispute. On another occasion, he commented on a "staffer's bulge in his khakis."

"It was a lot of inappropriate remarks — talking about other people's attractiveness and speculating about their sex lives at very weird moments," the source told the Post. "That's actually sexual harassment."

HUR INSISTS THAT HE 'DID NOT EXONERATE' BIDEN, REPEATEDLY SHUTTING DOWN DEMOCRAT CHARACTERIZATIONS

Bernal also regularly questioned people's sexuality and would attempt to poke into their personal lives, according to the report, which came after the publication spoke to nearly a dozen current and former staffers.

The individuals said they came forward because they wanted Bernal held accountable for his actions.

"If the White House Counsel is investigating the  behavior of a junior staffer  in the scheduling and advance office, does that mean they're investigating Anthony Bernal, an assistant to the president, too?" the former top Biden aide told Fox News Digital. "A dozen sources seem like enough to trigger that type of internal investigation."

White House chief of staff  Jeff Zients  responded to the allegations by saying he and the Bidens have "full confidence in Anthony's character."

"His many fans at the White House know him to be both gracious and tough, holding himself up to the highest standards, with a heart dedicated to public service," Zients told the Post. "It is disappointing that he is the target of unfounded attacks from unnamed sources."

Meanwhile, the former aide also told Fox News Digital that Zients should be furious at the White House over the situation.

"From a comms approach, I have no idea what the hell they were thinking by putting Jeff Zients' name on a statement defending a guy accused by a dozen staffers of being a bully and worse," the former aide said. "If I were Zients, I would be furious that I was left up the creek without a paddle. No one was protecting him in an effort to protect a serial abuser who has been a ticking time bomb for the Bidens for over a decade. If it weren't for that book from a New York Times reporter, this would have continued to go unnoticed."

HUR TESTIFIES HE 'DID IDENTIFY EVIDENCE' THAT 'PRIDE AND MONEY' MOTIVATED BIDEN TO RETAIN CLASSIFIED RECORDS

Anthony Bernal

"Aside from associating the White House chief of staff with a culture of abuse, bullying and harassment, they have elevated a story in an outlet they rarely treat with any credibility," the former aide added. "They go out of their way to tell everyone to ignore the [New York] Post. But when you provide a statement from the White House chief of staff, you're giving the story an avalanche of credibility and providing a permission structure for other outlets and journalists to advance the story."

Sources told the Post they believe Bernal will not face consequences due to his proximity to the first lady. In her book, "Where the Light Enters," she thanked Bernal, saying he provided her with "insights and guidance."

"He knows how much I love him and respect him," she added.

"Working for the Bidens is like living in another century," a source told the Post. "You really cannot speak up without fear of personal or professional retaliation."

"He is by far the worst and most well-known abuser, but the Biden White House is a magnet for ugly and abusive workplace behavior," they continued. "It's totally inexcusable [in] this day [and] age, especially with Biden's own narrative about standing up to bullies."

The White House and  first lady's  office did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment nor did they answer whether they would investigate Bernal's actions.

House passes bill that could lead to a TikTok ban; bill now goes to the Senate

FILE - A TikTok sign is displayed on their building in Culver City, Calif., March 11, 2024.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House on Wednesday passed  a bill  that would lead to a nationwide ban of the popular video app TikTok if its China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake, as lawmakers acted on concerns that the company’s current ownership structure is  a national security threat .

The bill, passed by a vote of 352-65, now goes to the Senate, where its prospects are unclear.

TikTok, which has  more than 170 million American users , is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd.

The lawmakers contend that ByteDance is  beholden to the Chinese government , which could demand access to the data of TikTok’s consumers in the U.S. whenever it wants. The worry stems from a set of Chinese national security laws that compel organizations to assist with intelligence gathering.

“We have given TikTok a clear choice,” said Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash. “Separate from your parent company ByteDance, which is beholden to the CCP (the Chinese Communist Party), and remain operational in the United States, or side with the CCP and face the consequences. The choice is TikTok’s.”

House passage of the bill is only the first step. The Senate would also need to pass the measure for it to become law, and lawmakers in that chamber indicated it would undergo a thorough review. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he’ll have to consult with relevant committee chairs to determine the bill’s path.

President  Joe Biden  has said if Congress passes the measure, he will  sign it .

The House vote is the latest example of increased tensions between China and the U.S. By targeting TikTok, lawmakers are tackling what they see as a grave threat to America’s national security — but also singling out a platform popular with millions of people, many of whom skew younger, just months before an election.

In a video posted on Wednesday evening, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said that the company has invested to keep user data safe and the TikTok platform free from outside manipulation. If passed, he said the bill would give more power to a handful of other social companies.

“We will not stop fighting and advocating for you. We will continue to do all we can, including exercising our legal rights, to protect this amazing platform that we have built with you,” Chew said in his message to the app’s users.

In anticipation of the vote, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin, accused Washington of resorting to political tools when U.S. businesses fail to compete. He said the effort would disrupt normal business operations and undermine investor confidence “and will eventually backfire on the U.S. itself.”

Overall, 197 Republican lawmakers voted for the measure and 15 against. On the Democratic side, 155 voted for the bill and 50 against.

Some Republican opponents of the bill said the U.S. should warn consumers if there are data privacy and propaganda concerns, but the final choice should be left with consumers.

“The answer to authoritarianism is not more authoritarianism,” said Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif. “The answer to CCP-style propaganda is not CCP-style oppression. Let us slow down before we blunder down this very steep and slippery slope.”

Democrats also warned of the impact a ban would have on users in the U.S., including entrepreneurs and business owners. One of the no votes came from Rep. Jim Himes, the ranking Democratic member of the House Intelligence Committee.

“One of the key differences between us and those adversaries is the fact that they shut down newspapers, broadcast stations, and social media platforms. We do not,” Himes said. “We trust our citizens to be worthy of their democracy. We do not trust our government to decide what information they may or may not see.”

The day before the House vote, top national security officials in the Biden administration held a closed-door briefing with lawmakers to discuss TikTok and the national security implications. Lawmakers are balancing those security concerns against a desire not to limit free speech online.

“What we’ve tried to do here is be very thoughtful and deliberate about the need to force a divestiture of TikTok without granting any authority to the executive branch to regulate content or go after any American company,” said Rep. Mike Gallagher, the bill’s author, as he emerged from the briefing.

TikTok has long denied that it could be used as a tool of the Chinese government. The company has said it has never shared U.S. user data with Chinese authorities and won’t do so if it is asked. To date, the U.S. government also has not provided evidence that shows TikTok shared such information with Chinese authorities.

Republican leaders moved quickly to bring up the bill after its introduction last week by Gallagher and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill. A House committee  approved the legislation  unanimously, on a 50-0 vote, even after their offices were inundated with calls from TikTok users demanding they drop the effort. Some offices even shut off their phones because of the onslaught. Supporters of the bill said the effort backfired.

“(It) provided members a preview of how the platform could be weaponized to inject disinformation into our system,” Gallagher said.

Lawmakers in both parties are anxious to confront China on a range of issues. The House formed a special committee to focus on China-related issues. And Schumer directed committee chairs to begin working with Republicans on a bipartisan China competition bill.

Schumer is likely to feel some pressure from within his own party to move on the TikTok legislation. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner announced after the House vote that he would work to “get this bill passed through the Senate and signed into law.”

In a joint statement with Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, the top Republican on the intelligence panel, Warner said that “we are united in our concern about the national security threat posed by TikTok — a platform with enormous power to influence and divide Americans whose parent company ByteDance remains legally required to do the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party.”

Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell, who chairs another panel with jurisdiction on the issue, said she would “try to find a path forward that is constitutional and protects civil liberties.”

Roughly 30 TikTok influencers and others who traveled with them spoke out against the bill on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. They chanted phrases like “Keep TikTok” ahead of the vote. They also held signs that read “TikTok changed my life for the better” and “TikTok helped me grow my business.”

Dan Salinger, a Sacramento, California-based TikTok creator in attendance, said he started creating content on the app during the COVID-19 pandemic purely out of boredom. But since then his account, which features videos about his life and his father, who suffers from dementia, has grown in popularity. Today, he has 2 million followers on the app.

“I’m actually appalled for many reasons,” Salinger said. “The speed with which they’re pushing this bill through does not give enough time for Americans to voice their concerns and opinions.”

Former President Donald Trump has spoken out against the House effort, but his vice president, Mike Pence, is urging Schumer to bring the House bill to a vote.

“There can be no doubt that this app is Chinese spyware and that a sale to a non-foreign adversary company is in the best interests of the American people,” Pence said in a letter to Schumer.

WEATHER ALERT

A rip current statement in effect for Coastal Broward and Coastal Miami Dade Regions

Phony contractor couple scammed miami man out of $135k, left home a wreck, police say, doral duo facing felonies.

Chris Gothner , Digital Journalist

Terrell Forney , Reporter

MIAMI – A Miami homeowner eager to improve his property instead lost $135,000 to a husband-and-wife duo who posed as licensed contractors and left his home in a disastrous state before disappearing, according to police.

Miami police said the victim, who lives in the city’s Buena Vista neighborhood, hired Doral couple Luis Gustavo Arvelo Teran, 34, and Maria de los Angeles Rosales Solorzano, 33, in September 2022.

“It’s an old house and it needed some upgrades but it was still in great shape,” said victim John Thomas. “The house was beautiful.”

The pair, working as Luma Solutions Corp., had Thomas pay 50% down on a $270,000 home renovation contract, police said. Authorities said Thomas found the company online.

“I wrote them the check for $135,000 in September of 2022,” he said.

The pair gutted Thomas’ home and then “disappeared without returning to complete any of the promised renovations,” Officer Kiara Delva, a Miami Police Department spokesperson, said in a news release Monday.

Thomas, whose home was left “uninhabitable,” demanded a refund and police said the couple admitted that their license had been revoked, their arrest reports state.

“Now it doesn’t even have a floor,” he said. “If you wanted to just take my money, take my money. Why did you have to just destroy my house? At least at that point I would have a place to live.”

Detectives undertook a long investigation after the crime was reported to them and located the couple Tuesday at the Party City at 10650 NW 19th St. in Doral, according to their arrest reports.

While police celebrated the pair’s arrest, the charges likely proved to be a party pooper for the couple. They each face first-degree felony counts of grand theft by contractor and organized scheme to defraud, as well as a misdemeanor charge of contracting without a license.

“At least now there is that satisfaction that they didn’t get away with it and that brings a little bit of a peace of mind,” Thomas said.

The Venezuelan nationals were no longer listed in Miami-Dade jail records as of Monday.

“(D)etectives believe that there may be additional victims who have fallen prey to similar scams orchestrated by these unlicensed contractors,” a news release states. “The Miami Police Department urges anyone who may have had dealings with the defendants, or who may have additional information related to other cases, to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.”

Anyone who thinks the duo may have victimized them is asked to call MPD’s Financial Crimes Unit at 305-603-6280.

Moscow River

Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south.

Bridges in Moscow

Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.

  • Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge –  Great Stone Bridge –  is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
  • Patriarshy Bridge  is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
  • Borodinsky Bridge,  erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
  • Bagration Bridge  one of the  pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
  • Krymsky Bridge  used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th  century.

Embankments of Moscow

Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from  Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.

  • Pushkinkaya embankment  is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
  • Vorobyevskaya embankment  is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
  • Embankment in Kolomenskoye  Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
  • Taras Shevchenko embankment  is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
  • Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Monasteries and temples

  • Novospassky Monastery
  • Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
  • Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
  • Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
  • Cathedral of Christ the Savior
  • The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
  • The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
  • Novodevichy Convent
  • The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
  • St. Andrew’s church  (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
  • St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.
