The Marina of Porto San Giorgio is positioned in the center of the Adriatic Sea, within walking distance of the art cities and ancient villages of the Marche region. Located in a strategic area for connections, whether highway, rail, or airport, it is two hours from Rome in an ideal location for reaching Croatia. Ancona and Pescara airports are less than an hour’s drive from the Marina.

Ancient tradition, new technology at your service: the Porto San Giorgio Marina is a safe harbor in every season. For more than 30 years, it has offered boaters safe shelter for comfortable boating. The conformation of the harbor and the orientation of the north-northwest mouth allow the safe entry and exit of vessels even in adverse weather conditions. The conformation of the Marina provides adequate protection in all weather and sea conditions, and the distance between berths is such as to allow for easy docking maneuvers.

Porto San Giorgio

Porto San Giorgio is a large, purpose-built marina situated on the Adriatic coast of Italy around 18 miles NNW of the port of San Benedetto del Tronto and 10 miles SSE of the harbour of Civitanova Marche . The marina provides 800 berths for yachts of up to 50 metres in one of the best-sheltered harbours along this coast.

During the summer months, the prevailing winds in the Adriatic are light to moderate coastal sea breezes. In spring and autumn, northerly winds are more frequent and can quickly rise to near gale force, especially in the northern Adriatic, where the much-feared “bora” is caused by high pressure over the mountains to the NE coupled with low pressure over southern Italy. Fortunately, the fiercest “bora” is normally to be expected in the winter months. Thunderstorms are occasionally experienced in spring and especially autumn and can be accompanied by violent winds of gale force and above. Luckily they are rarely long-lasting. In the southern Adriatic, the “Scirocco”, a S/SE wind blowing up from North Africa which can last for several days, is more common. Unlike the “bora”, which can arrive without warning, a “scirocco” tends to build in strength over 24-48 hours, sometimes reaching gale force (especially in winter).

The marina is protected by a long breakwater oriented roughly N/S. The village behind the harbour is not very conspicuous and the marina breakwaters are the most obvious feature. Stay at least 200 metres offshore in the approach to avoid detached breakwaters that protect the beaches to N and S of the marina. The marina is entered from NNW between a line of green and red marker buoys. Depths in the entrance are around 5.0 - 5.5 metres.

Warning: Entry is difficult in strong onshore winds.

The Marina di Porto San Giorgiois the only option.

Berths are assigned permanently to members of the Compagnia della Vela. Members’ boats are often absent because they are used for sailing trips or are undergoing maintenance. In this case, spaces for visiting boats may be available and the CDV will willingly put them at the disposal of guests.

Route to the harbours belonging to Compagnia della Vela on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore: : To reach the island the access to Porto di Lido is normally used, whose access channel is indicated by a white beacon light 2.5 m from the head of the southern breakwater and a pair of alternating red and green beacon lights at 1.3 m from the head of the southern breakwater.

You can only enter from the West (it is prohibited to enter from the East).

Lighthouses and navigation lights: 4239.4 (E 2497.4) – fixed red beacon light, range 2 m in Canale di S. Marco; 4239.6 (E 2497.6) – fixed green beacon light, range 2 m in Canale di S. Marco.

Be careful of the shoals at the sides of the navigable channels. The channels of the lagoon and the access channels to the harbours are generally not equipped with light signals, making it difficult to access the harbours at night. Dense fog in the winter makes it difficult to access the harbour and moorings.

Location: The harbour is located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore and overlooks the Bacino di San Marco (St. Mark’s Basin). It is overlooked by two harbour lights made of Istrian stone and has a narrow quay. Services and facilities: water and electricity – toilets and showers are located in the nearby Darsena Verde (300 metres away). Winds and currents: north-east and sirocco. The harbour is very sheltered so there are no problems of cross wind. The harbour is subject to the normal tidal ranges of the Venetian lagoon.

Location: the harbour is located on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore and directly overlooks the lagoon, facing the island of San Servolo. It is accessed through the Canale dell’orfanello, by the eastern harbour light of Darsena Croze via a channel that runs along the edge of the island. It has an Istrian stone quay with mooring buoys. The harbour has a large tree-lined area overlooking the lagoon where social gatherings, sailing courses and the awards ceremonies for the various races are held. There is a slipway for the sailing school boats and support equipment. Winds and currents: north-east and sirocco. The harbour is very sheltered so there are no problems of wind. The harbour is subject to the normal tidal ranges of the Venetian lagoon.

The sailing yacht Le Ponant has been totally renovated . 

The Ponant Cruises ' vessel is back to sea after a makeover that lasted several months at Italy's San Giorgio del Porto yard.

As well as providing a private setting, the luxurious yacht is packed with cutting-edge eco-responsible innovations. Following an exclusive collection of Mediterranean itineraries this summer, Le Ponant is sailing to the Seychelles where she is scheduled to spend the winter, prior to arriving in Australia for spring 2023.

30 years after her launch, the yacht has been transformed to provide passengers with a unique travel experience. Following a complete renovation, the vessel now accommodates just 30 passengers and as many crew members. The refined layout was designed by Studio Jean-Philippe Nuel & Sterling Design International to create a sense of privacy, tranquillity, and luxury that makes vacationers feel as if they are on their own private sailing yacht.

The 4 passenger decks provide a total of 16 spacious staterooms. The 60 m2 Owner’s Suite, on the upper ‘Zephyr’ deck has a private balcony. The common areas were refitted to allow passengers to fully enjoy the panoramic gastronomic restaurant, to re-energize in the spa, wellness area, or gym, and relax in the solarium. Guests have direct access to the sea from the marina to swim/take part in a host of activities like fishing, snorkeling, taking out an electric underwater scooter, or glass-bottomed kayaking.

2022-2023 program includes exclusive itineraries off the beaten track. In Winter 2022-2023, the yacht is heading for Seychelles and then on to Australia's Kimberley region for spring 2023. Services are offered in English for this destination, but 5 departures will also offer them in French.

The 9-night "The Seychelles under the Trade Winds Cruise" itinerary (roundtrip from Victoria/Mahe Island ) visits African Banks, Alphonse Islands, Poivre Islands, Therese Island, Curieuse Island, Aride Island, Grande Soeur Island (Big Sister Island), Praslin Island and La Digue Island. Le Ponant's Seychelles program has 11x sailings (November 22, 2022, thru February 20, 2023). Prices start from EUR 10200 pp with double occupancy.
