The Trimaran Orma 60' Areté was originally named for her sponsor, SOPRA, and was later renamed Emotion. She was purchased in the spring of 2015, and sailed from France to her summer home in the Great Lakes USA. In the summer of 2020, Areté and the owner Rick Warner, an accomplished and well known sailor - sailed in Lake Michigan in an attempt to beat the Chicago to Mackinac World Sailing Speed Record. The effort put in by the team during a 6 year campaign, with extensive modifications and team work has rewarded this team and boat with 3 WSSRC records.

The Trimaran Orma 60' Areté has taken part in races such as the 2006 Route du Rhum and the 2007 Transat Jacques Vabre and represents a rare chance to experience the most exhilarating sailing possible. Areté currently resides at her winter home in Chicago, Illinois.

Originally built by Mag/Ocea (France) in 2002 this Nomex core carbon rocket ship of a trimaran was designed by the renowned studio of Marc Lombard.

ThisTrimaran Orma 60' Areté belongs to the very exclusive group of racing sailing yachts in being able to reach speeds exceeding 40 knots. She can also attain cruising speeds up to 20 knots in medium sea and wind conditions. Groupama 2 was the last ORMA class trimaran to be built , and the most titled. Skippered by Franck Cammas, she won most of the Grand Prix from her launch in 2004 until the end of the ORMA circuit, as well as the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2007.

The challenge was to leverage the emerging technologies of the time to optimize hull shapes and structures using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the finite element method. The aim was to build the first 60’ trimaran weighing less than six tonnes. Approximately 15% of the budget was earmarked for research and development .

After serving as Oracle Team USA’s training platform for the 33rd America’s Cup, Groupama 2 was sold to an American owner in 2014 who sailed this mighty machine under the name Mighty Merloe .

An incredible ex racing trimaran with an unequalled prize list. She has been converted by her current owner who is an experienced multihull sailor into a fast, simple and light cruising trimaran for transoceanic sailing and blue water cruising.   Originally built as PIERRE 1er for the legendary French sailor Florence Arthaud , she won the Route du Rhum in 1990,  making her the first woman ever to win a major  offshore sailing event.   She became LAKOTA in 1993 with new owner and skipper, US tycoon Steve Fossett, who was 5th over the line in Route du Rhum 1994 despite his limited experience in multihull sailing. He then sailed her in Transpac 1995 (1st over the line), San Francisco Yokohama 1995, Los Angeles Honolulu 1997 (2nd over the line), 1999 Pineapple Cup 1999 (1st). Between 1993 and 2000, he broke a total of 12 records.   In 2000, she was sold to the Swedish team 'Atlant Group'. They broke many records. She became successively SONY (2001), PINDAR (2001 - skipper Emma Richards), SONY (2002), NICATOR (Le Cap Rio Race in 2003 : 1st over the line), TIETO ENATOR L’OREAL (2004), LAKOTA (2007) and SJOVILLAN (2008).   In 2011, she was sold to her current owner who has since enjoyed using her for cruising and fast ocean passages.   Current condition - ready to sail.

Passport or Id

Full names of the passengers (as shown on their passport or id). Passengers need to have onboard with them their passport or id or a copy of them, in case the Port Authority runs a check on the boat. A picture on their mobile will suffice.

This truly great experience tied in our stay in Santorini. We got to tour the islands from all the vantage points we missed on-land. The crew was professional and courteous. They hosted us well and knew what they were doing. This sailboat was unique and truly amazing and so was the sunset!

ARGO ORMA 60 Trimaran

To match this massive yet nimble ARGO Trimaran Yacht, the SeaDek design and color combination really needed to pop. Implementing 5mm brushed Storm Gray with an embossed Sunburst Yellow logo does just that and accentuates this vessel perfectly.
