Everything about our sunset cruise was perfect, fed the ducks on the drawbridge walking in, spent plenty of $ at the gift shop that can only be described as A game stuff for sale, found the staff to all be very nice and engaging, enjoyed going out on the cruise with a few rum slushies and pretzel bites, the guitar player at the front of the boat was excellent music for the cruise, the weather and view was perfect, and the folks on the cruise with us were all very nice and worthy of light conversation!!!! Work this trip in and enjoy something different!

Food is disgusting and service is extremely poor. Definitely a spot to try in chattanooga, but would not return. Could be much better if more detail was focused on.

Over Labor Day weekend, I took my Mom on a riverboat cruise on the Southern Belle. It was such a delightful experience! Felt like we were in another time, sitting on the deck watching the birds fly over the river as we sipped cocktails and listened to live music. Everyone was friendly. And we got to see a beautiful sunset over the river too! A great, low price for such a high quality life experience.

What a wonderful ride we had yesterday on the Southern Belle! We were lucky enough to get a nice table on the upper deck and therefore shaded from the sun. We went up the gorge and it was beautiful. We were blessed to see six bald eagles on the trip. The captain really makes the ride enjoyable. He has a great personality and shares a lot of history about the river and Tennessee. They need help when it comes to lining up to go on the boat. I think they should organize it so that all the elderly are boarding first. And help making sure the line stays organized. It was a hot mess yesterday. It reminded me of concerts in the 70's with open seating. A little scary. Again, the Captain makes the trip!!

Food was divided into who had paid and at what level. We paid $75 and did not get fancy charcuterie board and we got plain cheesecake while those paid more got special toppings. Band was ok. Nothing special. Didnt get to see sites of chatt at night Stayed in dining room. This is not worth the money.

Went Saturday, 5/27/2023 at 5p.m. Beautiful weather and ride. Enjoyed the facts told and the humor during the ride. The young ladies at the check in where very polite and pleasant. When leaving, the dinner/cruise that was waiting to board after we left, over crowded the check in/gift shop area. I think management should utilize the scanners they don't use to help their staff get customers checked in more efficiently. The 2 young ladies were doing a great job and their best with juggling people checking in and those trying to buying tems.

Although the boat was nice, If you do plan on going on this boat, just pay the normal price. My friend and I wanted to get seats by a window and paid $211 for that and it also included a charcuterie/cheese plate with a bottle of wine. We were told there would be live music, a 'big' cheese and meat tray and a Good time. We were escorted to our seats that already had a very sad looking charcuterie and cheese plate. Only a couple of fruits, literally planters peanuts, basically string mozzarella cheese, one slice of Gouda, and two slices of cheddar and meat that had looked as if it had been sitting out for a while. The live music was two floors up so we had no entertainment and the bottle of wine was worth 9.00$ for the bottle according to google. Again, I am sure the people who paid 39$ a piece had a MUCH better experience than us, who paid 106$ a piece. Was very disappointed.

Awesome captain, funny and informative. The PA system was shoddy but the captain included the kids in tid bits and even let them honk the horn/blow the whistle. You get a cute mini moon pie upon boarding. The views were great and you don't feel crowded. We also had a drink which was decent. We didn't try any food.

Surprise Birthday Party. We chartered the Latitude 35/Tadpole pontoon boat for a surprise party for a 2 hour cruise down the Tennessee River. The rental also includes the Tadpole, a barge attached to the riverbank, for social hour before or after the cruise. The process of booking to the cruise itself was great. The staff were all excellent and very accommodating of requests and meeting our needs. Thanks so much to our Captain, Bar Staff and sales (Joy) for a wonderful day on the river. A big thanks to Cupcake Kitchen for the wonderful birthday cakes you baked and delivered for us.

To ensure we have an enjoyable and comfortable boat tour, let’s make sure we pack the right essentials. Here’s a list of items we recommend bringing along:

  • Sunscreen to protect from sunburn
  • Sunglasses and a hat for added sun protection
  • Comfortable clothing and footwear
  • A water bottle to stay hydrated
  • A lightweight jacket or sweater for cooler weather
  • A camera or smartphone for capturing memories

Consider Timing and Weather Conditions

Before booking our tour, it’s crucial to consider the timing and weather conditions to maximize our experience on the water. Checking the weather forecast will help us choose an ideal day for a boat tour. When scheduling our tour, we should opt for a time of day that provides the best views, which might be early morning or late afternoon.

Additionally, we should be aware of the tour duration, which can range from brief 1.5-hour excursions like the Southern Belle’s sightseeing cruises to longer journeys up the Tennessee River Gorge, like a full day whitewater rafting trip up the Ocoee.

Remembering these planning tips will help ensure our Chattanooga boat tour is enjoyable and memorable, while making the most of the beautiful scenery and experiences the city has to offer.

Final Thoughts on Chattanooga Boat Tours

We had a fantastic time exploring the beautiful Chattanooga area through its various boat tours and river cruises. The Tennessee River offers stunning views, and there’s no better way to experience it than by boat.

Here are some additional things to consider when planning your Chattanooga boat tour experience:

  • Tour duration: Most tours last between 1.5 to 2 hours, with some private excursions offering 6-hour trips.
  • Price range: Prices can vary widely, from $30.99 for sightseeing cruises to more expensive private charters.
  • Age restrictions: Some tours may have minimum age requirements or recommend certain ages for the best experience. Be sure to check before booking.

In short, exploring Chattanooga’s waterways through its boat tours has been an unforgettable experience. We highly recommend adding one of these river cruises or boat tours to your itinerary when visiting the Scenic City.

Chattanooga Riverboat - CLOSED

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Booked this for Thanksgiving with a few of our friends. Cute idea, but the food was nothing special. The ham and turkey was totally dried out and it really wasn’t anything to write home about. Bartenders served up some great drinks, though, no skimping there.... Wouldn’t do again. More

It was cold and rainy and not a fun day to go on in a boat in the river LOL but we already purchased tickets and were on vacation so went anyway. Stayed inside on the 2nd/Main level where it was warm. Plenty of Windows... and seating. Was still great and got lots of great pictures. Will def go back on a nicer day so we can go to the top deck and really enjoy the river! The food in the bar inside the main place was really yummy! More

We enjoyed our walk around. We happened to be walking by and decided to go aboard and take a look around. It was fun to navigate the boat and take in the scenery. All the people on board were having a good time and the... staff was friendly. We didn't do a cruise as we were pressed for time, but next time we are in town we are going to check into it. More

For the price it’s not worth it,! We when for the “valentines dinner” the food was horrific and cold, the boat smelled musty and stale , smelled like a wet dog! Music was supposed to be “romantic background music” and was so darn loud you... couldn’t even hear you partner speak, the bar was under stock and understaffed with a 20min wait, the “upgrade package “ that includes cheese and shrimp was wrapped in plastic and was stale and tasted like it had been sitting for a day or too, was supposed to be the highlight of our weekend and ended being the worst experience of the weekend! . Overall , it sucked and the pics on their site don’t tell the taste or smell of it. Was an overall 1/10 experience, save your money and go to dinner somewhere else since every restaurant in Chattanooga seems to have great food!! I never review since I’m easy to please and I eat about anything!! But this was the worst I’ve ever done. My .02 cents. More

I called the main contact number and the gentleman answered right away, which was awesome. I didn’t feel comfortable booking the cruise after talking to him. I asked about space for social distancing if I booked a seat and sat in the open air deck.... He then told me that their will be adults on board that will be doing what adults do so there is no guarantee that social distancing will happen. He said he and the company always tell people if they are concerned about social distancing not to book a cruise. To make sure I understood I asked if there will be no chance of social distancing because everyone is seated pretty closely. He then told me that they are only filling each cruise to 1/2 capacity and they are complying with state requirements. I told him that was good. I laughed and said that mentioning that they are only filling cruises at half capacity was a good selling point with everything that’s going on. He corrected me and said there is no selling point they are just trying to keep people employed and he repeated that the company tells people with these concerns not to book a cruise. The call was a little intense for some reason. He mentioned that we live in America twice (I haven’t and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else by the way). Maybe he is frustrated with things going on in the country right now and I just happened to get the brunt of it. I wanted to book a sunset cruise tonight but I’ll follow his suggestion and pass. More

My husband and I were planning a trip to Chattanooga and were buying tickets online to various attractions. Well it rained most of the weekend and we did not make the riverboat trip. I called the following week to get a refund since I did... not use the two tickets I purchased. I was told they have a no refund policy in the fine print before you click buy online. So I will not patronize this business and I suggest if you take the cruise you buy the tickets immediately ahead of your trip. More

This sightseeing dinner cruise is a must see for anyone visiting the Chattanooga area! The cruise line made reservations a snap. I received email confirmation immediately and got friendly responses to all emails. The boarding was quick and organized. The cruise left on schedule and... I had a great time from departure, through dinner and dessert, and through the return trip through the gift shop. The food was amazing on the dixieland dinner cruise. We had prime rib that melted in your mouth. The wait-staff was all courteous and friendly. After dinner and dessert, we made our way up onto the top deck to enjoy the view of the Tennesee river. It was beautiful. You can enjoy the breeze from the top deck, or enjoy the view from one of the many tables that line the glass windows on the climate controlled lower decks. Either way, the view is amazing. The music was ok..they had a live band that played dixie style music. As you cruise the river, you will get to see many nice homes that line the river as well as an incredible view of the Tennesee Aquarium at Chattanooga. It is well worth the money--make sure you book this one if you are in town!! More

The lunch buffet consists of stale bread, cold cuts, cheese, a small portion of mushy overbaked beans, salad (iceberg lettuce & tomatoes). Dessert was Moon Pies. Even though there were only 16 folks on the upper deck, no one from the boat spoke unless we... requested something from them; i.e. a fresh pot of coffee. I even emailed the Chattanooga Riverboat telling them my dissatisfaction and they didn't bother to reply. I wouldn't waste my money on this place or recommend anyone else wasting their money. The cruise basically consisted of a man who sounded extrememly bored narrating. More

Booked via phone, picked up ticket on call. Boarding was late and a fiasco. misdirected away from buffet, told to go to upper level. I assumed there was more food on the upper level, since we had paid for the buffet. Husband handicapped, after walking... up two flights (no handicap service, at least non clearly labelled) there was no food. I went back down, stood in a long, long line. Stale bread, tomato heels, no mayonnaise. Plenty of meat. No beans, no macaroni salad. Problem was not that they didn't have food, but that they were woefully understaffed and couldn't get the food out, plus they should have had at least one more buffet set up to handle the very large crowd. Never did get any mayo.:) Not much to see on the river, I was expecting more of a nature cruise, mostly you see barges, buildings and scrap yards. Definately not worth the cost. I would go with the all day Cat and skip this entirely. More

We had been looking forward to a nice romantic cruise for weeks after getting our tickets. But this time on the Chattanooga Riverboat was a terrible time. They had two different parties going on no license's for alcoholic beverage ( I was so looking forward... to purchasing a drink an purchasing a glass for keepsake) . The entertainment was less than entertaining. We couldn't go around the boat due to the 2nd deck having a private party. Then when we went out on the deck was shoveled back due to the clean up of the other party. We had to stand where the cups and glass containers were stacked. The dinner was either over cooked or cold. The waiter passed our table several times asking if we wanted refills I said yes at least 7 times but he never came back to fill my tea which was hot not enough ice and they kept passing us by like we were invisible. This was the worse cruise I had ever been on. So DISAPPOINTED IN THE SOUTHERN BELLE RIVERBOAT CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More

We were very disappointed with the dinner cruise. The food was awful. Prime rib was served and it was practically raw. I could not eat it. The salad did not even have a taste and the plates were not clean. I had to literally remove... particles of something from my plate. I will never-ever take this dinner cruise again. More

My family and I went on the Christmas Carol cruise over Thanksgiving week-end. This was very reasonable for a family of five. The dinner buffet was very good. Good shrimp creole and prime-rib. The bar was reasonably priced as well. Santa came to visit and... we had a great D.J. play all kinds of music. My kids had a great time dancing. This is a must see when visiting the Chattanooga area. Don't miss it! Especially the scenery near the aquarium. More

We booked this at the last minute as a time-filler after our visit to the Tennessee Valley Railway took less time than we had allowed. We booked the trip excluding the lunch, which turned out to be the better option (once we saw the food... on offer). We had coffees in the restaurant on the dockside while waiting for the boat - it is a pretty downmarket set-up and not the cleanest, so we didn't chance the food. The boat doesn't go far enough to get to the scenic parts of the river valley, so I can't really recommend it. More

The Southern Belle was a relaxing 1-1/2 hour ride on the Tennessee River. We did lunch and it was cold cuts (we knew in advance that this was the case). We booked it the morning we rode and had no problems. The guides pointed out... things of interest and we got to sit in the Wheel House with the Captain for part of the ride. Definitely a fun afternoon. I've heard from others that the dinner cruise is excellent. More

For the level of experience, the group enjoyed the staff, show and the boat trip. I wish it had been a little longer and more scenic but overall I think it is worth doing at least once in the evening.

Thornton files libel suit over social media comments on River Gorge Ranch development

by Ben Benton

Staff Photo by Robin Rudd / This view of the Tennessee River Gorge offers an example of the view from Aetna Mountain in November 2021, early in the development of Chattanooga developer John "Thunder" Thornton's 7,500-acre residential development, River Gorge Ranch.
