Appealing to adults and kids, is the 7-acre Popcorn Park Zoo, a non-profit Zoo of the Associated Humane Society providing sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, abused and/or exploited, and elderly animals (farm and exotic) and birds that have been rescued and are cared for at the Park. Visitors can see exotic animals like tiger, lion and bear along with various farm animals and peacocks at Popcorn Park. Eno’s Pond County Park features hiking trails, playgrounds, and birdwatching. Forked River has other local parks and nearby wildlife preserves (Forked River Mountain Wildlife Mgmt. Area, Double Trouble State Park, Upper Barnegat Bay Wildlife Mgmt. Area).

The Jersey Shore is well-known for its challenging recreational sportfishing. Forked River, with its proximity to the Barnegat Bay Inlet and Atlantic Ocean is no exception. The famous Chicken Canyon off the South Jersey coast is one of the hottest spots to fish for pelagic fish like bluefin tuna, sharks, marlin, and mahi in the summer months and is 55 miles east from Barnegat Inlet. The Barnegat Ridge, ranging in depth from 46 to 58-ft, is 16 miles southeast of Barnegat Inlet where sea depth climbs from 95-ft to 55-ft creating an upwelling of nutrient rich water that attracts schools of baitfish to the Ridge, along with the gamefish that feed on them; species like Atlantic Bonita, marlin, mahi and others. The Barnegat Light Reef is made up of wrecks, reef balls, tanks, concrete castings, etc. and is 3.1 miles out of the Barnegat Inlet. Fluke and sea bass are primary game found on the northwest section known as “Tires.” Some of the local, experienced sportfishing charters are TUNA-TIC, a 44’ twin diesel sportfisher with Capt. Barnegat Bay’s protected estuary waters are also great for fishing. Some of the species found in the Bay, inshore and nearshore are fluke, striped bass, flounder, blue fish, sea bass, tautog, weakfish, blowfish, and blackfish.

Forked River area includes waters of the Barnegat Bay that extend eastward to the back (bay) side of Island Beach State Park, a great area for fishing, crabbing or just lounging on the water. Tice’s Shoal is a popular spot for boaters to anchor or raft-up and party during hot summer months and is only a 10-minute run from Forked River marinas, such as Southwinds on the Forked River, which bills itself as “an excellent stop for transient boaters enjoying the Barnegat Bay area” (book with Dockwa.com). The marina is close to the Barnegat Inlet and can accommodate boats to 58-ft length in slips ranging from 20 ft to 55 ft. This full-service marina with fuel dock features Slipstream premium marine fuels—gas and diesel, has pump-out equipment, Ships Store, restrooms/showers and laundry facilities, water, 30 and 50 amp electric and more. Other amenities include picnic area, snack, ice, and bait shop, on-site marine mechanics, 50,000 lb. travel lift, and Dock & Dine service from The Waterfront Restaurant and Beach Bar located next door. The town center of Forked River on SR 9 is only 2.5 miles from the marina at Southwinds and is replete with shopping, bars & restaurants, and specialty stores. The tannic waters of the Forked River, lined with cedar pines, is also a scenic cruise.

Tides End Marina is a PWC service specialist. The fuel dock is open 7 days/week from 9am to 5pm (before or after hours, call for appointment) and features ValvTect marine fuel. The marina has 35 slips from 15-ft to 52-ft with direct river access. Amenities include full bathhouse, fish cleaning station, tented picnic area with grill and sink, firepit, outdoor seating and snack shack. The marina has a 30-ton lift (for vessel storage) and offers year-round storage, including in-water.

Silver Cloud Harbor Marina is part of a full service 3-marina complex (Marina at Tall Oaks, Wilbert’s Marina) with a total of 240 deep water and riverfront slips, and storage for power and sailboats. Located in a safe, protected harbor with boating access to Barnegat Bay, Tice’s Shoal, Island Back State Park, and the Atlantic Ocean via the Barnegat Inlet. Amenities include private dockside pool, Ship’s Store, fuel dock—gas and diesel, pump-outs, restrooms/showers, picnic areas with awning, 15 & 20-ton travel lifts, 70-ft reach lift for mast work, canvas care shop, and rigging and fiberglass repairs.

Holiday Harbor Marina is a family owned and operated full-service marina located in Lanoka Harbor on Barnegat Bay in Waretown, NJ just south of Forked River. Holiday Harbor has 220 slips on fixed docks with a maximum length of 65-ft and maximum width of 20-ft. Dock depth is 6-ft. mean and approach depth of 5.5-ft. The marina is set back in a protected cove off Barnegat Bay, and is only 3 miles from the Barnegat Inlet leading out to the Atlantic Ocean. Amenities include clean restrooms/showers, laundry, water, 30 and 50 amps electric, pump-out, swimming pool, BBQ pit and outdoor pavilion, ice, 15 and 50-ton travel lifts, and more. Onsite Forked River Diesel & Generator is known for excellent repair services including diesel engines, outboard and inboard gas engines, canvas & upholstery repairs, welding, and rigging repairs.
