Irisha is a semi-displacement Smart Custom 51-metre motor yacht with an impressive top speed of 26 knots. Her exterior lines, designed by British studio Harrison Eidsgaard, are founded on the successful engineering platform of Heesen’s award-winning 5000 Aluminium class. Driven by the owner’s desire for something “fairly aggressive and dynamic”, the radical design gives her a distinctive edge on the water.

First impressions

Technically challenging from both a design and construction point of view, the curved glass sheets used for her iconic raised wheelhouse are among the largest produced in Europe. Forward on the main deck, a built-in settee is protected by a hydraulically driven canopy that creates a wind-sheltered outdoor space ideal for relaxing in privacy. More forward, in the bow a second seating area protected from the wind is the ideal place for admiring the views when underway.

Step aboard

Irisha boasts a chic understated interior featuring varying shades of light and dark grey (the owner’s favourite colour) with beige and blue accent colours. Rich materials are featured sparingly throughout, including stainless-steel finishes used to highlight architectural details. The sky lounge is equipped with a cinema screen and projector for film nights, and served by a wet bar for the ideal socialising hub.

The 51m (167’32’’) luxury motor yacht IRISHA, built under the project name YN18151 by Heesen Yachts was launched in spring 2018. A semi-displacement full-custom lightweight aluminium superyacht, she was designed, both on the exterior and interior by Eidsgaard Design. Accommodation for up to ten guests on board spreads over five cabins in addition to accommodation for a crew of 10.

IRISHA attracts with her sleek profile, innovative solutions, powerful performance as well as spacious layout. She is stable, fast and built to the highest quality standards. Her striking exterior lines are characterised by the great use of curved glazed areas providing the yacht with an aggressive appearance.

The interior is versatile and offers excellent spaces for socialising, events and group gatherings. There is a fantastic flow between the outdoor and indoor areas, a feature highly sought after by today’s yachting enthusiasts. The aft cockpit can be close off thanks to glazed sliding doors, thus creating a protected ‘winter garden’ area.

IRISHA Specifications

Fitted with two MTU 16V 4000 M93L Diesel engines, she is capable of reaching a top speed of 25 knots, while her range is 2,452 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots.

Yacht Charter Accommodation

Five beautifully appointed cabins offer accommodation for up to ten guests on board. The staterooms include one master suite situated on the main deck forward. This suite has been fitted with a fixed balcony with glass sliding doors as well as ensuite bathroom facilities and other luxury amenities. The remainder of the cabins is located on the lower deck, including two double and two twin cabins. The twin cabins can be converted into a full-beam VIP suite with a double bed and a lounge area with sofa.

Irisha stretches over 51 metres and has won several international yacht design awards in its category.

Dutch yacht builder Heesen has launched 51 metre Irisha , which sea trialed in May, 2018. Now newly released photos give a more detailed look into the interior design and exterior details of this fully custom superyacht, created by Harrison Eidsgaard .

Irisha  was originally envisioned as a day boat to cruise in Sardinia, Italy. As such, she has excellent outdoor living areas, including the expansive sun deck, pictured above. The radar arch provides protection for the sundeck bar, while white canvas gives shade over an al fresco seating area. The superyacht's hot tub is surrounded by sunpads for comfortable lounging.

When the Compass tender is taken out of the aft beach club and the stern door folds down, this creates a further entertaining space directly on the sea. A sauna and massage area is found here, and white curtains reminiscent of Nikki Beach give a relaxing vibe.

Glass-wrapped superstructure.

Extensive use of glass is a standout feature of Irisha's exterior styling. The superyacht has a sleek look, much in thanks to her glass-wrapped superstructure and a design layout that puts the bridge on a half deck between the main and sundeck.

The glass over the helm is also one of the largest pieces of chemically hardened compound curve glass ever to be made in Europe.

The bridge and sundeck are linked by a large sliding glass door and drop-down window. In this way, not only is glass used as a stunning exterior design feature, but as a means of opening up the superyacht to the outside and creating the feeling of being on the bridge of a sports boat.

Clever master balcony

Irisha has a spacious main deck master suite that opens onto a French balcony. This balcony isn't of the fold-down variety, but is fixed in place, meaning that it's always accessible to her owners and doesn't require the help of crew to use.

A press of a button allows the full-length glass doors to slide back, revealing the outdoor space of this cosy French balcony that is all at once open to the fresh sea air, yet protected as well. It's the ideal place to enjoy a morning coffee, curl up and read or have a nightcap before bed.

The stunning staircase

An undoubtable wow-factor on board the Heesen yacht Irisha  is the stunning staircase. This open oval staircase extends through three decks of the yacht.

According to Heesen, besides the impressive use of exterior glass, this was the most challenging feature of the build. The yard's in-house interior joinery firm also constructed the interior.

This sinuous staircase belies its aluminium structure, which is masked by a polished, hand-plaster technique created by DKT Artworks and topped in tempered glass structural balustrades and a leather handrail. It is truly a work of art in itself.

The sophisticated dining room

Harrison Eidsgaard is known its unusual general superyacht layouts, and it proves its prowess with Irisha . The main deck arrangement is unusual indeed, with a main deck aft cockpit that doubles as a winter garden and outdoor living room. This space can be air conditioned or heated to be used in all weather.

This aft lounge is connected to the large dining room by sliding glass doors. _Irisha's _dining room table can extend to seat up to 22 guests. Not only is this a stunning interior space, but it seamlessly connects to the aft lounge via the doors.

WHO IS HARRISON EIDSGAARD?

The Harrison Eidsgaard team designed the exterior flow seamlessly into the interior.  They made the interior spacious.  Bathed it in natural light.  There is a unique combination of versatile layout inside and out.  This yacht is ideal for socializing and entertaining.

She accommodates up to 10 overnight guests.  In specific, they are accommodated in five beautifully-appointed staterooms.

Three particularly notable amenities include first, the cockpit.  It is all glass. In addition, it sweeps from the tender bay forward. Further, it proceeds halfway along the sundeck. This unique bridge creates a sense of speed. It gives the yacht a powerful presence on the water. Second, the winter garden. MY ‘Irisha’ – an owner’s team exclusive

We explore how custom vessels are able to use platform hulls without diluting a designer's original concept….

Following the delivery of 51m Heesen-built MY Irisha , SuperyachtNews speaks exclusively with Stuart King, director of Technical Marine UK, to discuss the processes involved in the development of this particular new build superyacht and consider some of the challenges encountered during the build of Irisha from the perspective of the owner’s team.

“We started the project towards the end of 2014 and the contract with Heesen was not signed until May 2015,’ starts King. “When we [Technical Marine UK] first got involved, the project consisted of the proposal drawings from Harrison Eidsgaard Design. Irisha began as a 55m custom vessel and we became engaged in a number of studies to try and ascertain how we could limit her volume to ensure her tonnage was below the 500gt threshold, which is incredibly difficult at 55m.”

Once Irisha’s 55m sub-500gt design had been validated, King explains that the team then approached a number of shipyards in order to ascertain pricing and the viability of the project from the perspectives of a variety of sources.

“Firstly, you need to make sure that the information that is being provided to yards is consistent and that they are able to quote against it,” continues King. “Before we consider a contract, we create a single coherent package of build information. This package will include a specification, GA and some exterior renderings amongst other things. At this point you are able to approach several yards and what you expect is to receive in return is a series of bids that, when choosing a final yard, become a case of comparing apples with apples.”

If, however, a coherent set of information and documents is not created, invariably the quotes that are received in return will fail to represent the needs of the project and may vary wildly from one another.

“Obviously you choose the yard that you feel is best qualified to build what it is you have set out to achieve. We chose Heesen because, unlike the other yards, it presented us with an opportunity to integrate Harrison Eidsgaard’s beautiful design into one of its platform,” King explains. “The yard has a proved 50m semi-displacement platform that does 23kts, the Satori series hull. The yard has built a number of these over the years.”

It is not uncommon, according to King, for shipyards to incorporate custom designs into their tried and tested hull platforms. One may be forgiven for believing that the desire to do this is a time and cost saving exercise, however, while savings may be a by-product of such a process in some cases, the real benefit to both yard and owner is the mitigation of risk associated with the build.

“The main benefit for the yard is risk. If the platform is already proven, they can be confident that the vessel is going to meet the necessary performance parameters; they know it will be stable, up to speed and they will have a designed and tested engineering packaged,” says King. “The slight inconvenience with Irisha was that Heesen’s existing platform only reached 23kts, but she was required to reach 25kts. The yard therefore worked hard to upgrade the engineering package to meet the owner’s requirements. In the end there was quite a few changes to the platform.”

Importantly, Irisha was required to match Harrison Eidsgaard’s original profile. Irisha’s owner would quite rightly not have accepted amendments to the original design that had diluted his vision that had been made real by the British design studio.

“It was quite an exchange of drawings between ourselves, the owner and Eidsgaard to show the owner that the design would not be compromised by using the platform,” continues King. “The forward third of the vessel is completely different to the platform, as is the transom and the entire superstructure. You can tell just from looking at the images that Irisha appears to be completely fresh and new.”

Once the various combinations of custom and platform had been realised, Irisha became a 51m sub-500gt project that achieved over 26kts during her sea trial. For more details on the design and features of  Irisha , click here .

“Looking back, the final Irisha delivered to the owner by Heesen is remarkably close to the preliminary sketches of the custom boat developed by Harrison Eidsgaard back in late 2014. The work carried out by Heesen to integrate the unique custom design into their well proven 50m engineering platform is very impressive given the increase in speed required and the entirely custom profile and layout. Despite the difficulties in producing the extensive and complex curved exterior glass, the result speaks for itself and the photos of the yacht in recent trials look just like the earliest sketches from Harrison Eidsgaard. She is the impressive result of no compromises being made during the build, by a yard that worked hard to accommodate the requirements of the client,” concludes King.

The 51m motor yacht irisha has been built by heesen yachts and designed by harrison eidsgaard (exterior and interior)..

IRISHA is a full-aluminum semi-displacement yacht below 500 GT. The yacht is based on Heesen’s 5000-series but got a unique superstructure design to meet the owners’ requirements. She reached a top speed of  26.1 knots during her sea trials and has an operating range of 3,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.

IRISHA ‘s sundeck has a length of 13 meters and features a sunbathing area, a seating area that can be transformed into a dining area. Furthermore, you can find a bar with a dumb waiter and a hot tube.

The yacht accommodates up to ten guests overnight but has a dining table 14 persons that can be extended for up to 22 guests for formal banquets.

The 30.95m/101'7" open yacht 'Irisha' was built by Azimut in Italy at their Viareggio shipyard. Her interior is styled by Italian designer design house Carlo Galeazzi and she was completed in 2004. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Stefano Righini and she was last refitted in 2010.

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks, she has impressive speed and great efficiency thanks to her planing hull. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V2000 M93) 2,434hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 13 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 45 knots with a range of up to 461 nautical miles from her 12,350 litre fuel tanks at 30 knots. Her low draft of 1.34m/4'5" makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines. Her water tanks store around 2,500 Litres of fresh water. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) classification society rules.
