The Steeler trawler experience

Trawlers have a magical effect, inspiring a sense of adventure among those who love to explore the waters. In the past, these trawlers were wooden boats sailed by men of steel who knew that reaching the best fishing grounds quickly was the key to success. But just as modern industrial trawlers have developed into a very different kind of vessel, so too have the versions made for more leisurely pursuits

These pleasure trawlers are still associated with fishing, adventure and a no-guts, no-glory mentality. However, while owners are among the most steadfast, dedicated and non-conformist of yachtsmen, most trawlers on offer these days are anything but fast and adventurous.

A fresh wind

All that’s about to change after a father-and-son team came to Steeler asking us to create a trawler yacht that we didn’t build at the time. We do now… And the results are impressive.

Superyacht quality

Apart from the demands related to cruising and fishing, this new 65-foot Trawler had to breathe premium Dutch quality and design. Examples include a bespoke interior, the ultimate gloss rate of the coating and an extreme level of detail in the technical installation. The result is a luxury trawler that also meets Steeler’s ambition to fuel and strengthen the reputation for excellence of Dutch yacht building.

Other key aspects of the new S-design Trawler line include:

• Low centre of gravity translates into maximum stability
• Absence of bow wake at all speeds results in minimum resistance
• Higher speeds with up to 40% less fuel consumption
• Minimum spray, dry cruising

Steel and aluminium

The first 65 S-design Trawler has a strong, light and low-maintenance aluminium construction. Steeler wouldn’t be Steeler if we didn’t now up the ante even further by catering for clients who would like to have a trawler in steel. The Long Range version of the Steeler Trawler will also have all the assets of an S-design hull and you can again make as many choices as you like for your interior and facilities. The Very Best of Dutch Yacht Builders

Dutch yacht builders have crafted a reputation as being among the world’s very best, with an extraordinary density of high quality, high value shipyards operating out of the Netherlands.

Part of the reason for the dominance of Dutch yacht builders in the superyacht industry stems from Holland’s prestigious history of boat building, which stretches back centuries and was perfectly poised to make the shift to constructing luxury yachts during the 20th century. The word ‘yacht’ originally comes from the Dutch word ‘jacht’, meaning hunt.

Some of the towering names of the yachting world have emerged from Holland, with the great heritage yards Amels, Hakvoort, Royal Huisman, De Vries and Royal Van Lent more recently joined by other outstanding Dutch yacht builders such as Heesen, Vitters, and Oceanco.

Dutch shipyards are heralded not only for their world-class build quality, high tech yards, and innovation, but are also renowned for reliability in finishing projects on time and on budget. With Dutch shipyards producing many fully-custom ‘one-off’ yachts, many of the yachts launched from Holland’s shipyards are extremely iconic and often win international awards.

Dutch yacht builders have also capitalized on their individual reputations for quality construction by forming strong collaborations including Feadship and HISWA, which serve to market the best of Dutch yachting internationally, thereby growing the influence of the Dutch yacht builders.

Notable Dutch Yacht Builders

This prestige brand is often known as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of yacht builders, constructing fully custom yachts from a ‘blank slate’ beginning. Feadship is actually a partnership between two of the greatest Dutch shipyards: De Vries and Royal Van Lent, with yacht building roots dating back to 1849. The Feadship fleet today is more than 450 strong, and includes some ground-breaking yachts including AQUARIUS and ECTASEA.

Founded in 1918 and boasting the largest and most high-tech shipyard in the Netherlands, Amels turned its hand to superyacht construction in the 1980’s. Amels builds fully custom yachts up to 656’ (200m), as well as their highly sought-after ‘Limited Edition Series’. Known for exceptional build quality and iconic yachts including HERE COMES THE SUN, Amels also builds a popular range of support yachts for superyachts through DAMEN, its parent company.

Royal Huisman

This family-run shipyard was founded in 1884, and has produced some of the finest sailing yachts afloat, with a long line of regatta honors and design awards across its fleet of maxi-yachts and performance cruisers. While its fame is recognized across the world for building sailing yachts such as ATHENA, Royal Huisman also builds motoryachts, including the award winning ARCADIA.

Hakvoort is another illustrious Dutch shipyard which dates back to 1919 and builds sailing and motoryachts up to 215’ (65m). With yachts constructed in steel and aluminum, Hakvoort offers a full-custom service from design to launch, as well as a 180’ (55m) semi-custom series. They have launched many notable, award-winning yachts, from LADY MARINA in 1994 to APOSTROPHE in 2013.

Founded in 1979, Heesen has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the yachting industry, and is now considered one of the most innovative Dutch yacht builders. Initially known as a builder of fast performance yachts, Heesen has expanded its yacht building capacity up to 260’ (80m) and has achieved notoriety for its revolutionary design and engineering, such as the Fast Displacement Hull Form first seen on multi-award-winning GALACTICA STAR.

One of the most respected names in sailing, the Vitters shipyard was founded in 1990 and has gone on to launch luxury sailing yachts known for winning superyacht regattas and international design awards. Constructing yachts over 30m with an uncompromising focus on quality and design, Vitters has received accolades for yachts including SARISSA, GANESHA and AQUIJO. Vitters also owns the Green Marine yard, which is responsible for building the Volvo Ocean Race fleet.

This Dutch yacht builder specializes in the large yacht market, constructing fully custom superyachts over 260’ (80m) in aluminum and steel. Oceanco opened its doors in 1990 and has been responsible for the launch of some of the industry’s most well-known yachts, including ALFA NERO, ANASTASIA and the largest Dutch yacht to be built thus far, the 360’ (110m) JUBILEE.

Located in the medieval Dutch town of Den Bosch, Moonen Shipyards is one of the world’s most well-known motoryacht builders. Having launched their first boat in 1963, Moonen pride themselves in quality and service and offer diverse options in the upper echelons of the yacht industry for fully customized superyachts up to 150’ (45m), custom series displacement yachts, explorer vessels or fast displacement all-aluminum powerboats.

Established as a family-owned shipyard in 1938, Mulder has become a renowned member of the Dutch yacht building family. The yards’ global reputation for quality has been built upon three main pillars: the classic Super Favorite Cruisers, the later Favorite Superior and a range of Mulder custom-built motor yachts from 42’ to 147’ (13m to 45m).

Van der Valk

A passionate yacht enthousiast, Wim van der Valk started the company that bears his name in 1967, and is still driving force behind it today. In applying the most advanced solutions, systems and materials possible, this pedigreed Dutch yacht builder believes in creating yachts that will stand the test of time. In the late 1990s, they introduced their signature product – the Continental I series. Today, to ensure unrivaled quality and exclusivity, Van Der Valk produces a select, limited number of Continental yachts each year.

Hartman Marine Group

Founded in 2003, Hartman Marine Group has roots which span back to 1775 with a heritage of seven generations of skipper-owners. Hartman yachts hold a timeless and fresh style without compromising practicality and superb comfort, in the true fashion of Dutch boatbuilding excellence. Leveraging on experience, innovation as well as tradition, Hartman applies their robust standards from the drawing table to the unique finishing touches in every custom build.

Remedy , hull 399, was one of the last steel kotters (cutters) built by the Dutch builder, Lowland. Their commitment to a high quality build led them from semi-custom kotters to the building of one-off custom megayachts.

In 2019 she underwent a major refit that included painting the hull, deck and house. In addition to the painting, there was also an in-depth inspection of the hull. She also had a conversion of the forepeak done from an office space to a forward head and a stateroom.

Looking aft in the salon there is a small set of steps leading to the luxurious master stateroom and ensuite head with a stall shower.

Timmerman Yachts is a large scale Dutch-Russian consortium superyacht building yard who constructs top quality displacement motor yachts. Timmerman superyachts are built at Moscow Shipyard which is the leading Russian partner in the Timmerman Yachts project. Other European Members of the project include some of the leading Dutch naval architects and designers of large displacement yachts such as Vripack , Guido de Groot Design and Ginton Naval Architects . Additionally, Timmerman Yachts enjoys the involvement of leading British designers Jon Bannenberg Ltd and Francis Design Ltd.

The range of semi-custom private yachts currently built by Timmerman Yachts and designed by their European partners includes models ranging from 26 – 47m, namely the TM26, TM33, TM40 and TM47. Other yachts include the Timmerman FD-52 which is a custom build, designed by Francis Design Ltd which provides exceptional hydrodynamics and a long waterline length hull. This allows for striking looks as well as a speed of 18 knots with low fuel consumption. Modern technologies and equipment are used in the construction of all of the luxury yachts produced by Timmerman Yachts.

Timmerman Yachts was founded in 2003 and named after Franz Timmerman (1644-1702) who introduced Dutch boat building methods to Russia in the 17th century. Timmerman is credited with convincing Peter the First of both the importance and the charm of maritime affairs and he was entrusted with the construction of great fleets of both naval and trading vessels. As well as forging links between two Great European Embassies, Franz Timmerman was also able to arrange for Tsar Peter to study at the Amsterdam boat yards where the Tsar got his "Certificate of Timmerman" as ship joiner.

The yachting company continues this very successful Russian-Dutch partnership, with more than 1000 people who studied in Holland now working at Timmerman Yachts at the Moscow Shipyard in Russia. The name of Franz Timmerman, co-founder of the Russian Navy, is honoured in the title of this project. "Our aim is to build the best motor yachts from the point of view of the ratio “price-quality”, combining in them the newest technologies of European yacht-building with reliability of Russian ship-building, having military roots" -  Dmitry Mironenkov, the president of Timmerman Yachts.

Timmerman has  powerful production capabilities, broad experience, exceptional  specialist knowledge, and cooperation with the leading Dutch Naval Architects which enable them to realize the most incredible and daring ideas into their superyacht projects. The consortium enables its client to receive a luxury motor yacht with unlimited range and best consumer qualities, at an attractive price and in reasonable time. Names of the luxury yachts delivered by Timmerman include motor yacht Victoria M (2008), megayacht ALEXANDRA (2008), motor yacht Kitty (2008), New Star , (2006), M/Y Nord Star , (2005), Smile (2004) M/Y Olsten 125' ( 2004), and motor yacht Pallada (2003), Novaya Zvezda (2006).

Timmerman yachts comply with the highest shipbuilding standards: certification and supervision of DNV, MCA, Russian River Register. This kind of approach to certification provides complete compliance of yacht characteristics with international standards and allows a yacht owner to charter his yacht in any part of the world and to sell it without any difficulty.

The consortium allows its client to get a motor yacht with unlimited range and best consumer qualities, with attractive prices and in reasonable time.

At the moment the shipyard is building 17 yachts. According to the length of the yachts Timmerman Yachts is among the ten leading shipyards of the world.
