Van Der Valk starts building the second hull for 660- series Beachclub

The first hull of the  Flybridge BeachClub  660 series, is nearing completion of construction at facilities in Waalwijk and is due to be delivered this summer, announced the  Van der Valk  shipyard.

The construction of the 20.5-meters second hull 660-series has begun, and it should be completed in spring 2020. The first BeachClub 660 Flybridge has already been sold and the shipyard is putting the finishing touches to BeachClub 600, which is available for sale.

The new BeachClub 660 is the quintessence of the BeachClub concept. The interior and exterior design of the renowned designer  Cor D. Rover , naval architecture by Ginton, all-aluminum construction with a sleek modern profile, as well as a radical layout and engine layout, make these boats the most spacious and impressive in their size ranges.

The 660 Flybridge will have three main open spaces: a beach deck and a sun deck, aft deck with a choice of external steering and an extensive front deck with many options. The interiors consist of the main deck of the saloon/wheelhouse with broad perspectives, the saloon of the lower deck with a galley/dining area and spacious living rooms including a suite for owners, two double cabins for guests and an extra cabin for the crew. Large windows and sliding doors in both the lounges and suites of the owners offer a panoramic view of the world.

More space, in reality, has achieved by dispensing with the normal engine room and placing it in the swimming platform area, where the height is still 1.6 meters. This arrangement makes the most of an aft area of the vessel that is rarely used, freeing up a great deal of volume for interior and exterior facilities. As a result, the BeachClub line has the same amount of space that is usually found on far bigger yachts, reported the shipyard.

Rossinavi and Camper and Nicholsons presented new superyacht concept Infinity with architect Fulvio De Simoni

Rossinavi  and Camper&Nicholsons are proud to debut their collaboration with a brand new concept in superyachts: Infinity, which was unveiled during  the Palm Beach International Boat Show  on March 29. For this collaboration, Camper&Nicholsons will market and exclusively distribute for the territory of the Americas.

The new line has been designed inside and out by Fulvio de Simoni and includes a range of sizes. Fast displacement hull, charming lines and wide outdoor areas on the upper deck are the signatures of this design. The idea for Infinity is to create a boat concept that starts from a simple sharp line that connects two windows; one looking out into the horizon and the other one pointing towards the bow into the beach club and owner’s entertaining area.

These range from the 42 meters to a 50 meter is “entry level” superyacht, a 59 meter and a 69 meter, the flagship of the series.

The hull allows reaching over 20 knots of speed with low internal noise levels. The versatility of Infinity is also going from its hulls thought both for transoceanic navigation as well as shallow waters as her draft is between 2 – 2.75 meters.

Sold for $126 million: superyacht Equanimity finally finds new owners

The Malaysian government has announced that the 91.5-metre Oceanco superyacht  Equanimity  would be sold to Genting Malaysia Bhd for $126,000,000. It was earlier revealed, that  the vessel’s maintenance had cost the government over $3,500,000 since her reclaiming in August 2018 .

Genting Group is a Malaysia-based investment holding and management company, engaging in the leisure and hospitality, oil palm plantations, property development, biotechnology, oil and gas businesses. The group’s market capital is estimated at $8.3 billion by Forbes as of June 2018.

The purchase price is to be paid to the Court by the end of April, and is little lower than the market evaluation done by Winterbothams at $130,000,000. The new price, however, halves the vessel’s original price estimated at $250,000,000.

Malaysia’s Attorney General, Tommy Thomas, revealed the information recently.

“The Government of Malaysia is pleased to announce that the  superyacht Equanimity  is to be sold to Genting Malaysia Bhd or its special purpose vehicle (SPV) company at the price of $126 million,” he confirmed.

He also explained that Genting Group made the purchase directly from the government, without a broker, meaning that no agency commission will be charged on the sale. That will save around $4.4 mln for the Malaysian government.

The Malaysian government seized Low Taek Jho’s superyacht in August 2018 , shortly afterwards putting it on sale as a part of the effort to recover funds stolen by Low and his cohorts from the state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad,  according to The Independent . That resulted in a speculation on the topic, making the vessel notoriously recognisable.

“This will rank as the highest recovery to date for the government of Malaysia from its 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal, within a mere eight months from the commencement of this action,” concluded Tommy Thomas.

Nonetheless,  Equanimity  was famous across the yachting community, well before being pushed into the limelight by this case. The vessel was also the first superyacht designed and built to be fully Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) compliant.

The yacht is trademarked with extensive spa area on the lower deck, plunge pools and customised interior. At 2,998 gross tons of interior volume, Equanimity still belonges to the league of the world’s largest yachts. She offers accommodation to up to 22 guests within 11 staterooms including 4 VIPs and a crew of 31.

The 5-deck superyacht incorporates several pools, massage areas, saunas, experiential showers, hammams, jacuzzis and a gym all designed with the most precious of materials, it directly connects to a beach club from which guests can swim out into the ocean.

Equanimity also comes complete with two custom-designed, 10-meter Hodgdon tenders to ferry around her guests in style. The yacht can cruise for up to 5,000 nautical miles at a speed of 15 knots, with her top speed reached at 18.5 knots.

Regina: Inside Dolce and Gabbana’s 50m yacht asking €18 million

Icons amongst the fashion industry, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have built the D&G empire that now sells over $1 billion every year in luxury clothing. Their activity in yachting has also been noticeable with their custom built 50-meter Regina D’Italia. The yacht is now on the market asking €18 million.

Built by  Italian yard Codecasa  in 2006,  Regina d’Italia  represents extraordinary balance between flamboyance and minimalism, applied to yacht design. Translated from Italian as ‘The Queen of Italy’, she stretches across a beam of 9.5 metres with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

Regina d’Italia demonstrates clean metallic exteriors styled by Della Role Design. She is provided with a lot of space and alfresco zones across three deck areas. A sundeck with several lounging zones and 360 views is one of the yacht’s key trademarks. Another distinctive feature of the boat is her giant custom-built, inflatable water slide.

The yacht’s interiors echoing the owners’ style in fashion, were developed by Lazzarini Pickering Architetti. Conceived as the reflection of high-fashion living, the yacht’s strict minimalistic architecture blends into incomparable richness, both in terms of materials and effects.

Reflecting Dolce & Gabbana lavish fashion style,  Regina d’Italia’s  decoration boasts studded with rubies and sapphires taps, gold veined marble floors and animalistic prints prevailing as a texture. According to the broker’s information, all the precious materials on-board are genuine, whether gold, mink or crocodile skin.

Regina d’Italia  offers accommodation to up to 12 guests on-board within a full-beam owner’s suite boasting a large dressing room and private gym, a VIP stateroom, two double staterooms and two twin cabins. Notably, each of the four guest bedrooms is named after exotic animals: giraffe, rhinoceros, elephant and crocodile. The guests can rely on an elevator to get from the lower deck up to the sundeck and back.

Zeelander Yachts launches the largest yacht to date

Zeelander Yachts  has announced the launch of the  Zeelander Z72 , its largest yacht to date. Zeelander Yachts is a leading Dutch shipyard that creates high-end motor yachts with an elegant New York commuter-style profile and excellent performance. Zeelander Yachts is specialized in building small superyachts. Years of experience combined with the needs of today are behind the development of the newest and largest member in the Zeelander family.  The Z72 is an exceptional flagship  that combines superyacht design features and finish levels with Zeelander’s noteworthy profile.

Each new yacht from this builder impress with her exterior with S-shaped lines and the Z72 is no exception. The distinctively rounded stern unfolds invitingly to reveal a spacious swim platform. Three pairs of large side windows punctuate the elegant hull. The exterior design look of the Z72 has developed in collaboration with Cor D. Rover. Rover also contributed to the design of the bestseller model so far for the yard – the Zeelander Z44.

The Z72 is even more silent than smaller Zeelander models – extra soundproofing and insulation upgraded her to mega yacht level.

As an example of superyacht-level transformation, the curving transom unfolds, and the backrest of the aft settee folds down to create a large sun pad, handy to the swim platform.

The 10 sq. m. platform serves at anchor and is equipped with a cabana to make the shadow on a sunny day. The first Z72 unit does not have a jacuzzi, but it is optional. It can be installed on the aft deck instead of the sunbed. The jacuzzi could then be closed to return to a sunbed.

The three-decks Z72 can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 double cabins. The master stateroom features a king-size bed with a large sunroof, hull side windows, curving bulkheads, and leather-trimmed accents. Additional accommodations consist of a pair of guest doubles located amidships, where angled entry doors optimize the use of space while highlighting the mirror design. Each cabin benefits from the same level of fit. The tender garage on the side completes the key features of the yacht.

Dolce and Gabbana’s yacht Regina d’Italia II has been sold for a lower than expected price

dolce gabbana yacht

Did you know that Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana of Dolce and Gabbana fame owned a yacht? The Regina d’Italia II, formerly known as the Regina d’Italia was recently sold. Although the asking price was €18 million, it was sold at a reduced price of €13.5 million via Edmiston and Torrance Yachts.

The yacht is exquisitely designed. It has three decks, several lounging areas, and 360 views. The interiors are inspired by high fashion living, and combine aspects of minimalism as well as luxury. They have been designed by Lazzarini Pickering Architetti. The décor is embedded with rubies and sapphires taps, gold veined marble floors and animalistic prints prevailing as a texture. All the precious materials on-board are genuine, whether gold, mink or crocodile skin.

The owner’s suite has a large dressing room, private gym, a VIP stateroom, two double staterooms and two twin cabins. Each of the four guest bedrooms is named after exotic animals: giraffe, rhinoceros, elephant and crocodile. The yacht is made to ideally host 12 people.

The yacht features top speed of 18 knots and cruises comfortably at 15 knots at the range of 4600 nautical miles, with the power of two Caterpillars of 2448 HP each. It also has a zero speed stabilization system which reduces roll motion effect. We are not sure who bought the yacht, but we’re guessing the new owners are going to have a smooth and exquisite ride.

The lavish European wedding will be the third time the loved-up couple have tied the knot, following their unofficial nuptials after the Grammys in Las Vegas and their legal ceremony in Santa Barbra.

Kourtney and Travis   shared their first photos as newlyweds with their Instagram followers earlier this week.

Less than 24 hours after legally tying the knot in Santa Barbara, the reality star posted a slideshow of black and white photos from their big day.

'Till death do us part,' the mother-of-three captioned the snaps, featuring her straddling her spouse on top of a black convertible with 'just married' on the bumper before getting into the car and sharing a passionate kiss.

Cornered off: Areas of the street and parking spaces were cornered off for the wedding party and their entourage

The Blink-182 drummer posted an identical caption and same images of their big day as they announced the news to their fans and loved ones.

The lovebirds, who became engaged in October 2021, exchanged vows with a small number of loved ones and their security, including her maternal grandmother Mary Jo 'MJ' Campbell and Travis' dad Randy, at the weekend.

After getting hitched, the reality star and drummer were seen driving off in a vintage car.

For her big day, Kourtney was seen wearing a short white dress with a plunging neckline and red heart adorned on the bodice and a traditional veil over her dark tresses, which were pulled back for the occasion.

She styled her $1,825 Dolce & Gabbana lace bustier frock with a pair of sheer gloves and matching veil.

Known for their love of matching, the star and her husband wore coordinated shoes for their big day. While she opted for a pair of burgundy velvet pumps, Travis matched her in trendy men's Rockabilly shoes in the same color.

Kourtney later shared a snap of their cookie cake iced with 'Mr. and Mrs. Barker' from Command Entertainment Group PR owner Simon Huck and his husband Phil Riportella.

At the time of her prior Vegas wedding, Kourtney took to Instagram to share a gallery of snaps from the nuptials as she said that some drinking lead to the impromptu wedding in Sin City.

She captioned the gallery of retro snaps to her 168million followers: 'Once upon a time in a land far, far away (Las Vegas) at 2am, after an epic night and a little tequila, a queen and her handsome king ventured out to the only open chapel with an Elvis and got married (with no license).'

She also confirmed that it was not an actual legal ceremony as they did not have a marriage license but it will help them for their actual wedding as she wrote 'Practice makes perfect.'

Under her leather jacket Kourtney wore a yellow 2012 vintage Versace bustier with a huge crystal gothic cross down the middle as she and her man packed on the PDA by sharing several kisses.

They both also sported a pair of black designer sunglasses, with Travis opting for Enfants Riches Déprimés shades. The musician opted to show off his body art by going shirtless under the outerwear.

Kourtney's social media post was met with much joy from her celebrity family and friends in addition to her loyal followers as many commented on the post sending their love.

Travis commented on the post with two people wearing formalwear emojis with a female gender symbol in between as younger sister Kim replied with four house emojis.

The chapel's wedding packages range in price from $99-$699, with the couple purchasing the One Love Affair package for $199, paying extra for the Elvis impersonator, according to In Touch.

The priciest package includes a limo, photo shoot, a wedding concierge, choice of love song, a fresh rose bouquet and garter belt for the bride, wedding video and a rose petal entrance, but the Kravis' budget ceremony was a simpler affair which lasted 30-40 minutes.

It was a private early morning wedding, according to TMZ , who reported that the pair did not allow the venue to take any photos and opted to bring their own photographer and security.

Kourtney and Travis famously were engaged during a romantic beachside proposal in Montecito, California, in October.

Barker's daughter Alabama, now 16, shared a first look at the massive sparkler — which was oval-shaped and appeared to be at least 15 carats and designed by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz — as they enjoyed an intimate engagement dinner with family and friends after the proposal, with additional footage shared throughout the evening. The ring is estimated to be worth at least $1million.

The proposal took place at 6:30 pm; family members from both sides were in attendance to usher in the happy couple.

The loved-up duo were longtime friends for a decade, before they began dating in the latter part of 2020, and went Instagram official just after Valentine's Day 2021.

Wild PDAs, IVF struggles, and THREE weddings: A look back at Kravis' whirlwind romance history

They're saying 'I do' for a third time this weekend in Portofino, Italy in front of a close circle of family and friends. Here, DailyMail.com takes a look back at the three weddings, wild PDAs, IVF struggles and whirlwind romance of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker...

Travis' first Kardashian crush on Kim

Having been a friend of the family for years, Travis Barker first showed his interest in the KarJenner clan when he confessed to first being attracted to Kim Kardashian - not Kourtney - back when she was an assistant to Paris Hilton around 2006.

'How could you not stare at Kim? Mind you, I enjoyed hanging out with Paris, but I love curvy girls,' Travis admitted in 2015. 'Kim was eye candy. I was no way disrespectful to Paris, but I couldn't keep my eyes off Kim!'

Travis went on to say he spent time with Kim in their Calabasas neighborhood and while he had a 'crush' on her, he said 'nothing ever happened.'

Getting to know the family

Travis then made several appearances on Keeping Up with the Kardashians while he was still married to ex-wife Shanna Moakler, cementing his status as a true Kardashian family friend.

His daughter Alabama revealed in October 2017 that she had been bonding with the Kardashians, along with her father, though she did not specifically mention Kourtney.

'Actually, the other night I had dinner with all of them and they were really sweet,' she said at the time. Travis shares Alabama and a son Landon with his ex Moakler, who he was married to from 2004 to 2008.

Dating rumors

Kourtney and Travis first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted on what appeared to be a date together in 2018 Los Angeles.

For their evening out, the duo attended an evening service at the famed celebrity Hillsong Church, and then later went out for a vegan dinner at Crossroads where they dined with Kourtney's pal Larsa Pippen.

At the time, Kourtney had broken up with French model Younes Bendjima just a few months before.

From friends to lovers

Their relationship was confirmed in January 2021 after growing closer during the pandemic, as Kourtney recently revealed she made the first move while the pair were enjoying a friendly movie night together.

'I was definitely always attracted to Travis. I think it was just the right time in my life,' she said on the show this year, adding: 'We were texting and I put it out there, like flirtatious conversation.'

After Travis failed to make a move and went to put on a second movie for them to watch, Kourtney took action: 'I was like, "I don't have time for this movie marathon,’" so I made the first move.'

Their relationship is going from strength to strength, with the lovebirds happily putting racy public displays of affection on social media.

PDA power couple

'Kravis' became Instagram official for Valentines in February 2021 with Kourtney posting a picture of the pair holding hands, but that was just the start of the wild PDAs that followed. By April, Travis posted a blurry snap of them making out, while they later revealed their signature move on Kourtney straddling the Blink 182 drummer in the Utah desert.

Their PDAs reached a fever pitch in August last year, when Scott Disick reached out to her ex Younes Bendjima on Instagram after seeing Kourtney straddle Travis on a gondola. He later apologized.

They made their red carpet debut at the VMAs in September last year, and their display of tongue-kissing for the cameras set the tone for many more PDA-heavy events including this year's Met Gala.

IVF struggles

While the couple's romance has seen many highs, Kourtney has revealed they've also faced heartbreak as she's struggled to have a child with Travis.

In an episode of the Kardashians, Kourt confessed their doctor had taken them down 'this road of doing IVF' saying 'it hasn't been the most amazing experience.'

The reality star is mother to Mason, 12; Penelope, nine; and Reign, seven — with her former partner Scott Disick, whom she dated from 2005 until 2015.

A romantic proposal

Travis popped the question in October to Kourtney, whisking her away to a beach in Montecito, California, as the special moment was captured for the Kardashians Hulu reality show.

Later, it was revealed there was drama as Kris Jenner made the call not to include Kourtney's children in the happy moment - which resulted in her daughter Penelope becoming upset.

'I woke up all night thinking it was a dream,' Kourtney gushed on Instagram at the time.

Three weddings

Not content with just one ceremony, Kravis kicked things off with a drunken Las Vegas wedding in April this year after partying at the Grammy Awards. But the wedding was void as it was revealed the loved-up couple did not have the correct paperwork.

In the run up to their big wedding in Italy, Kravis legally tied the knot in Santa Barbara in May with her grandmother Mary Jo "MJ" Campbell present, as well as Travis' father Randy Barker. The pair drove off in a vintage lowrider convertible with a 'Just Married' sign.

However, the couple really pulled out the stops for their big bash in Portofino renting out an entire castle for their family and friends. The pair chose the historic house museum Castello Brown located on a hill above Portofino harbour for their official big celebration.

Exclusive: A look at Dolce & Gabbana’s private yacht and inflatable slide

dolce gabbana yacht

Look at what just landed in my inbox – a look on board Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana ‘s yatch, Regina D’Italia . With only a few weeks before they show at Milan Fashion Week at the end of the month, it’s great to see the boys relaxing with friends onboard their luxury yacht – which comes with its own inflatable slide. According to the email, the slide was custom built for the 51 metre Regina D’Italia .

How much would you give to be invited to go cruising around the Mediterranean with them and their friends right now?

According to various websites, the Regina D’Italia is able to accommodate 12 guests and 10 professional crew with its 1 Master cabin, 2 Double cabin, 2 Twin cabins. I guess there would be a whole lotta bed sharing going on?

It has also seen the likes of Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell on board and although it doesn’t have a helicopter landing pad, it does come with a jacuzzi spa. And of course there is the ocean at the back door. You can even inquire about renting it here , not that we think Dolce & Gabbana would loan it out in the Northern Hemisphere summer.

REGINA D’ITALIA LIVING!!!!! but i have to say, their old yacht was much more fierce, i saw it in Porto Cervo in Sardinia a few years ago… it was still a mustang with the chrome lining but it was Chameleon coloured! so it was purple or green or both depending on the angle it was on AND it had the helipad AND matching jet skii’s to the yacht!!! they should have just added the slide to the old one 😛

All About the Superyachts Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker Are Using at Their Wedding

The couple and their guests are staying in special accommodations for the wedding

dolce gabbana yacht

Guests at Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker 's wedding are forgoing hotels for lavish yachts and villa accommodations.

PEOPLE can confirm that superyachts Regina D'Italia and the Fatima , along with a nearby Olivetta villa complex, are where the 50-person wedding party are staying for the big event.

The Regina D'Italia , which was sold by fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in 2019, is a 65m superyacht worth around $50 million, while the Fatima — still currently owned by Dolce & Gabbana — is a slightly smaller vessel, measuring 35m.

According to Yacht Charter Fleet , the Regina D'Italia is set to accommodate up to 14 guests in 7 suites, all designed by Italian design house Codecasa. Not only does the yacht feature an elevator and a swimming pool, but it also has a beauty salon on board.

Fatima can accommodate up to 10 guests, SuperYacht Times reported. The interior was designed by Mauro Micheli, of Officina Italiana Design.

For more on Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's Italian wedding, listen below to our daily podcast PEOPLE Every Day.

On Saturday, the Kardashian-Jenners and other guests were photographed heading to the Fatima to bring them to the pre-wedding lunch reception at Abbey of San Fruttuoso, which is a small fishing village only reachable by sea or foot.

For the wedding, the two massive yachts were decked out in hundreds of delicate white roses. Since there were so many flowers, they were transported to the yacht via a dedicated boat.

Along with the two yachts, Kardashian and Travis' guests are also staying in the Dolce and Gabbana-owned Olivetta Villa, which features a series of hillside villas that overlook the water in Portofino. The guests' stay is complete with a private direct lift to the complex.

On Saturday, the wedding party changed into their party dresses, arriving at the Portofino port on six Riva tenders. They visited Villa San Bartolomeo, one of the many properties in the complex, for the dinner and party.

The yachts weren't the only accommodations decorated in countless roses: a 300m corridor was filled with specially planted red roses, leading from the entrance of the port elevator to the lush villa.

Since the wedding is taking place in coastal Portofino, naturally there are several boats being used throughout the week. PEOPLE confirms that there are six exclusive wood Riva boats that will bring the party between the superyachts and the mainland. Additionally, there are three smaller boats for tenders, along with more yacht tenders.

For a destination wedding of this scale, it's no surprise that wedding and venue preparations have called for a 200-person team who have been planning for weeks ahead of Kardashian and Barker's special day.

After a Vegas "practice wedding" in April and a legal ceremony in Santa Barbara earlier this month, The Kardashians star, 43, and the drummer, 46, are saying 'I do' once again in Italy. The couple chose to host the ceremony at L'Olivetta, a villa in Portofino owned by Dolce & Gabbana. The reception will take place at 16th century castle, Castello Brown. The couple is also planning a reception in Los Angeles.

This is the incredible $14.2 million superyacht where newlyweds Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker celebrated their wedding.

The Regina d’Italia superyacht was designed by the couple’s friends Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who founded fashion giant Dolce & Gabbana.

The yacht’s interior has a striking regal opulence – with marble floors, leopard-skin throws and gold trim finishes.

The mega yacht was bought by Dolce & Gabbana from building firm Codecasa in 2006.

The couple took their respective children on the yacht to celebrate their nuptials after they were legally married at a courthouse in California on Sunday.

They then travelled to Italy where they had a lavish ceremony with family and friends at Castello Brown on the Riviera coastline.

Kourtney and Travis not only celebrated on Dolce & Gabbana’s yacht, they were also styled by the brand.

The bride wore a corset with a short lace dress and a long tulle veil which featured an image of the Virgin Mary and the words “family, loyalty, respect”.

Dolce & Gabbana creates a capsule collection especially for Moscow

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have presented their first capsule collection in Moscow, which is entirely dedicated to the Russian capital. The Moscow Dolce & Gabbana line includes outdoor clothing, evening and cocktail dresses, skirts, blouses and shirts. There are also hats made of black brocade or wool and decorated with lace, studs, stones or ceramic flower buds.

One of the motives behind the collection was the opening of the renovated flagship boutique at a new address on Tretyakovsky Proezd, in a building adjacent to the previous one. Items from the Moscow Dolce & Gabbana line will only be available at this location.

Russia's newest robber barons are taking luxury to next level

MOSCOW — The billboard appears at mile 3 of the post-Soviet boulevard of big-ticket dreams that is the Rublyovka Highway. "Any house," the sign by a prestigious homebuilder proclaims. "Helicopter as a bonus."

Only in the millionaires' suburb of Rublyovka are houses so pricey that a helicopter is thrown in like a carpet upgrade.

How elite is Rublyovka? So tony that real-estate prices have streaked skyward even on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, the "Rublyovka adjacent" avenue in northwest Moscow — presumably because people who drive along it, as almost anyone who is anyone in Russia does, are probably on their way to Rublyovka.

The Rublyovka Highway shuts down twice each day as President Vladimir Putin is chauffeured between work and his Rublyovka estate in his black Mercedes 600 Pullman, prompting an elite traffic jam that locals love to fume about to acquaintances consigned to lesser bottlenecks.

Russians throughout history have lived large, from the gilded palaces and Fabergé eggs of the czars to the epic miseries of World War II.

Today's prosperity is no exception. Fourteen years after the arrival of capitalism, Forbes magazine's annual survey of the wealthy last year found Moscow with more billionaires than any other city on Earth. (But a new survey shows the city dipping slightly below New York, thanks to the Yukos Oil prosecution's disastrous effect on the company's stock.)

Crass consumerism gone

The net worth of the nation's 36 richest men and women, according to Forbes' calculations, is more than $110 billion, equal to 24 percent of the nation's gross domestic product.

In some cases, the new "new Russians" are the same businesspeople who got rich in the shady privatizations of the 1990s. Now, most have reached their late 30s and 40s, and they've moved their businesses toward legitimate operations. They own oil companies and huge metal mining operations, cellphone companies and real-estate development enterprises.

And after more than a decade of traveling among Paris, London, New York and Moscow, they have begun to expect at home — in districts such as Rublyovka and a growing number of other high-end Moscow neighborhoods — the kind of amenities they have long enjoyed abroad.

Rublyovka, once the exclusive retreat of Joseph Stalin, Leonid Brezhnev and other Soviet leaders, has become the subject of a best-selling new novel, "Casual," the first-ever portrayal of the privileged lifestyle behind its towering, closely guarded walls.

Lots in the community are being snatched at the equivalent of $5 million apiece, and miles of forest are falling under the bulldozers to make way for $10 million homes, some with elaborate turrets, Russian Empire facade styling, private chapels and, in one case, a motorboat grotto. But the trail of Russia's millionaires doesn't end there.

Crocus City, on the north side of Moscow, bills itself as the largest luxury mall in the world — and that's before construction begins on an expansion that will double the size of the shopping center and include 15 high-rise office buildings, a yacht mooring terminal, helipad, 1,000-room hotel, 216,000-square-foot casino and 16-screen movie theater.

Meanwhile, Gucci, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Armani are ensconced fewer than 10 miles away, in a cobblestone nook off fashionable Tverskaya Street downtown. They are within walking distance of an array of high-end clubs and restaurants distinguished mainly by the scowling bodyguards standing beside cars with tinted windows outside and the jewel-and-mink-draped beauties inside — often until 5 or 6 in the morning.

Café Galleria, this year's hot spot, requires a weeklong wait for reservations to dine in its sleek, yellow-and-black-columned halls. Even then, it won't admit those who might "spoil the atmosphere," as owner Arkady Novikov puts it.

California rolls — in a city suddenly mad for sushi, not a single fashionable restaurant can afford to be without it — go for $17 each. A hunk of creamy burrata cheese with cherry tomatoes costs $24. "Practically every restaurant in Moscow has to have this cheese now. Russians can't live without it," Novikov says of the coveted mozzarella, which must be flown in fresh from Italy.

Novikov owns a network of eateries that have at one time or another been at the center of Moscow's social beehive, including the tiny but tony Vogue Cafe downtown and the popular Czar's Hunt and Veranda u Dachi restaurants in Rublyovka. He operates 15 acres of greenhouses outside the city to keep his clients in arugula and wild strawberries throughout the Russian winter.

"People are becoming more sophisticated," he says. "The attitude of people with money had changed toward many things, first of all toward the money itself. Now the money is no longer falling on your head from the sky, like before, and the culture of the people has changed for the better.

"We learned a lot of things from the West, including how to dress, how to behave and how to eat."

Poor little rich girl

Ksenia Sobchak, Russia's 23-year-old answer to Paris Hilton, grew up far from underprivileged circumstances — her father was mayor of St. Petersburg — but insists she's no spoiled debutante.

"Me myself, I never considered myself to be rich, though I get a real big salary. So how did I get this image of this golden rich girl?" wonders Sobchak, who hosts a reality television show and lives with her millionaire fiancé in an apartment on Tverskaya Street.

Then she answers her own question: "I really am a socialite. I don't like to spend time at home in a cozy armchair. I really enjoy going to cinemas, visiting friends, going to restaurants. For me, Moscow is the best city in the world. If you want to have fun for 24 hours, you can have fun."

This summer, Sobchak is preparing for the "it" marriage of the season, to Russian-American businessman Alexander Shustorovich, a Harvard graduate who helped broker a $2 billion business deal when he was 30. Sobchak is planning a "simple" and "nice" wedding, at a resort near St. Petersburg, for 300 people.

Today's wealthy Russians, she says, are sensitive to the issues that have sent thousands of pensioners into the streets to protest the partial loss of their benefits. There are 25 million Russians who live on less than $87 a month, and the average monthly wage is less than $240. Many of the well-to-do, the young celebrity says, remember what it's like to have nothing.

"I was a Pioneer," Sobchak recalls, referring to the old Communist youth groups. "I remember the songs about Lenin. I remember those huge lines. I remember buying kilos of green bananas and putting them under the bed to ripen, because you didn't know when you'd be able to get bananas again."

Russia's wealthiest classes, says Eduard Dorozhkin, editor of Rublyovka's local newspaper, Na Rublyovkye, "know they made mistakes in the past, and their mistake was to show how rich they are. It's impolite to look rich in a country with so many poor people."

At the same time, many say, the memory of penury is what inspires an abundance of wealthy Russians to spend with abandon.

"If Americans have $1 million, they're not going to spend $200,000 on a car," said Alla Verber, vice president of Mercury Ltd., which operates luxury shopping centers in downtown Moscow. "The Russians, they will. The Russians think, 'You only live once, and God knows what's going to happen in five years.' "

These days, though, most ostentation is anonymous — a phenomenon attributable as much to nervousness about government tax crackdowns and the ever-present possibility of Mafia violence as to a lingering sense from the Soviet years that being splendidly rich is anything but politically correct.

The city's many Humvees and their even-more-fortified Russian equivalent, the $144,000 Kombat, have tinted windows. Neighbors often have no idea who lives in the gated palace at the end of their street. The magazine Arkhidom, Russia's equivalent of Architectural Digest, features glossy pages of ornately decorated mansions and penthouse apartments but not a word about who owns them.

Oksana Robski's "Casual," which sold 50,000 copies in the first 10 days after publication, provided ordinary Muscovites with another peek at life in Rublyovka, which even in the Soviet era was the storied enclave of Politburo members, nuclear scientists and presidents. Today, former Presidents Boris Yeltsin and Mikhail Gorbachev have homes there; so does Nobel Prize-winning author Alexander Solzhenitsyn.

The world Robski portrays, however, is mostly about Rublyovka wives: the thin, carefully coiffed, Dior-clad women who were lucky enough to snag a business mogul, then spend much of the rest of their lives plotting to keep from being dumped for a younger woman.

"These women in the book, they exist," says Roman Kondratov, a stylist at the Place in the Sun hair salon in Zhukovka, one of several elite neighborhoods that make up the district known as Rublyovka.

He says, "Let's see. The typical Zhukovka woman: First, she gets up at 2 p.m. Then gym, spa, hair. They come in here and some of them look like Christmas trees, jewels everywhere. And the things they talk about, they're mind-boggling for me.

"Where they're going on vacation. What they're going to buy. Mostly, they think about clothes. What they're wearing, what their friends are wearing, where they're going to buy the clothes they want, where they're going to fly to buy them. The kind of money they talk about spending is almost incomprehensible to me. And plastic surgery, endless talk about plastic surgery. Most of them go to the States, to the guy who did all Michael Jackson's work."

"It was important for me to portray this world not as it is reflected in tabloids and magazines. It's interesting to show that these people not only go to hairdressers and get manicures, but they live there," says Robski. "They live their lives and lose their loved ones and die of incurable diseases. They fall in love and get betrayed. I think it's stupid to say that only those people who possess nothing have feelings inside."

Robski knew whereof she wrote when her heroine's husband was killed in a contract hit. Her second husband died the same way.

Her next book will deal with Rublyovka as well, but it will take readers far into the world beyond it. Robski plans to write about the female bodyguard agency she once ran, providing stylish armed protectors to wealthy businessmen throughout Russia.

Indeed, for a growing number of wealthy Russians, even Rublyovka is too confining — especially now, when tawdry new dachas are lined up on the roadside and Putin's traffic jams are simply impossible.
