Sail Caribe offers catamaran charters to Vieques, Culebra, Cayo Icacos, Palomino Island, and Culebrita.

The difference they offer is a charter where you can sail, and sleep aboard without a captain and crew.  

The service is called “bareboat” and can be very attractive if you’re an experienced sailor.

Charters depart from the Marina Puerto de Rey in Fajardo. Charters are sold by the week. Ground transportation is not included.

Castillo Tours operates its own boats, vehicles, and staff. They specialize in corporate groups.

The tour includes snorkel equipment, beach toys, boxed lunch, and refreshments. 

The differentiating factor is they will provide beach toys to play volleyball, football, or beach paddles .

5. Beauty of Fajardo Day Sail — Catamaran Spread Eagle

The Catamaran Spread Eagle has been providing tours from Fajardo for decades.

The difference factor with Spread Eagle is that they have a larger variety of lunch options.

They also provide you with a brand-new snorkel included in the tour. This is a nice touch, as opposed to a used one.

The Spread Eagle catamarans depart from Villa Marina in Fajardo.  

The tour is 5 hours, and if you’re departing from the San Juan area you should leave 2 hours earlier. This charter company does not offer transportation with the tour.

If you would prefer to see the sights of Old San Juan , this morning mimosa tour is an option.

The tour starts at 10:30 am and includes bottomless mimosas, rum punch, domestic beer, and rum drinks.

10. Morning Snorkel Sail — Katarina Catamaran

The Katarina Catamaran sails on the west coast of Rincon.

The boat is a 32-foot catamaran that can accommodate 17 guests. They include rum punch, lunch, refreshments, and snorkeling.

The Katarina Catamaran is moored in Rincon. You will need to board a small watercraft from the Balneario of Rincon, which transports you to the bigger boat.

This tour might be challenging for people staying in the San Juan metro area. It’s recommendable to stay on the west coast so that you can arrive on time.

I did the tour to icacos island and palomino with the captain Jay, pablito and I forgot the tall guy name but three of them were great! We had a blast on our tour. Drinks were amazing. The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Omar and Arturo were awesome sailors/hosts/guides making sure they got us to Icacos safely for snorkeling, answered all our questions, taught us about Puerto Rico and even served us delicious drinks and snacks. Islands That We Visit:

Destination will be determined by our captain on the day of the experience. The destination is determined based on the weather and water conditions of the day. 

Isla de Palominos

Located some 3.5 nautical miles east of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 104 acres. It is one of a few private islands that exist throughout Puerto Rico. Part of the island is on lease to El Conquistador Hotel to be used as the hotel’s beach. About a quarter-mile south of Palominos island lies Cayo Palominitos, which is a one-acre sandy key with tropical vegetation perfect for swimming or snorkeling.

Isla de Lobos

Located some 1.5 nautical miles east of Cayo Icacos, it has a size of approximately five acres. It is also one of a few private islands throughout Puerto Rico. In the early ’60s, the island hosted a very exclusive hotel, which ran into financial difficulties and was abandoned for a great part of the ’70s and ’80s until it was bought by a local family and converted into a paradise vacation home. Surrounded by small keys and coral reefs, it is great for snorkeling.

Cayo Icacos

Located some four nautical miles northeast of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 163 acres. It is part of a chain of small islands, keys, and coral reefs known as La Reserva Natural de la Cordillera. The island hosts a fairly large amount of marine life, coral reefs, birds, and land iguanas. It is the perfect setting for snorkeling, swimming, diving, and beachcombing. It gets its name from the large number of Icacos bushes on the island. The Icacos is a small sour fruit, which grows to about the size of a key lime. When ready to be picked, they are pale yellow in color and come off the bush quite easily. The best way to eat them is cooked in heavy syrup.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Individual reservations:.

10:00 am the day before the scheduled trip, and the reservation can be canceled for 1-9 passengers, 10 + passengers 2 days prior with No penalty. Full payment is required upon booking with any major credit card to confirm the reservations.

“NO SHOW”  or if you don’t arrive on time, the ticket is  NOT REFUNDABLE  and  NOT REUSABLE unless (and only if) we have space available to reschedule on a future date. Reschedule must be made on the day of the original trip, based on availability, and  a rescheduling fee of $25+ tax per person will be applied.

*All marine activities are subject to water conditions. Please call the prior day for an update; cancellations or change of destination due to water conditions are at the Captain’s discretion. These decisions can be informed upon check-in.

Upon departing the marina in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, our guests will enjoy the beautiful views of the El Yunque Mountains and the waterfront of the Fajardo coastline. After a comfortable sail on our catamaran of about one hour, the Icacos Beach and Snorkel Tour begins as we anchor at one of the small deserted islands off the northeast corner of Puerto Rico. Guests can practice their snorkeling, walk on the beach, beach comb, and swim and snorkel in the crystal clear waters of Icacos island.

A leisurely catamaran sail back to the marina brings us back to the dock at 3:30 pm. Guests can enjoy viewing the fish at the reef through our glass windows and have fun on our water slide aboard our catamaran. Lunch is served at approximately 12:30 pm, where our guests can enjoy local pastries, build their own sandwiches, peruse the salad bar and enjoy fresh fruit.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made 48 hours before the scheduled tour date and local time via EMAIL ONLY. A sales representative will respond with validation of requested cancellation. Those who intend to cancel within the 48 hour time frame will be fully charged by the designated tour operator. There will be absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS under any circumstance to waive any fees.

After submittion of requested tour, you agree to our 48 hour cancellation policy and acknowledge any cancellations made within the given time frame are to be considered a FINAL SALE. There will be No Re-scheduling, and NO REFUNDS will be given.

Please note some tours depend on weather conditions to function and may be affected. Unfortunately, mother nature is out of our control, any changes required will be notified to you immediately. For safety concerns, if a tour operator cancels the scheduled tour, the option of re-scheduling will be given or a refund will be provided.

Important Information

This is a snorkeling and beach trip.

Children four (4) years or younger, pregnant people, and people with back conditions or recent surgery can’t participate of this tour.

Due to water conditions and other unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to reroute to another destination or cancel at the marina.

Cancellation Policy

For individual reservations of 1-9 passengers, there can be cancellations until 10:00 am the day before the scheduled trip with no penalty. Reservations for 10 or more passengers require cancellation at least two (2) days in advance.

“NO SHOW” if you don’t arrive on time, the ticket is NOT REFUNDABLE and NOT REUSABLE unless (and only if) we have space available to reschedule on a future date. Reschedule must be made on the day of the original trip, base on availability and a rescheduling fee of $25 + tax per person will be applied.

*All marine activities are subject to water conditions. Please call the day before your trip for an update. Cancellations or change of destination due to water conditions is at the Captain’s discretion. These decisions will be informed at check-in.

Full Day Snorkeling & Beach Trip to Culebra

This was a FANTASTIC excursion & my family & I (3 adults) would do this again in a heartbeat. The boat is clean, beautiful & well maintained. The crew is so nice & professional, & they take passenger safety & satisfaction seriously while ensuring FUN! Our trip had a diverse mix of ages, which was nice.

The boat ride from the m arina to the snorkeling spot in Culebra took about 1 hour 15 min. to get to & we left promptly at 9am. We snorkeled for about an hour with the lunch buffet put out during that time. An hour was plenty IMO & we did not feel rushed or unable to enjoy our lunch, which was a nice spread. There were even options for my vegetarian husband to enjoy. The beverages did not disappoint. The snorkeling was so beautiful & everything is provided.

Our captain was unable to take us to Flamenco Beach safely due to conditions, so instead we were taken to Culebrita island to spend about 2 hrs +/- for beach time. It was GORGEOUS! We swam, relaxed, & had the best time & it appeared that everyone else did as well. The return trip back to the marina took about the same time as going out.

Highest ratings for Capt. Javi & his crew – Dani, Angel, Adrian, & Diego (sorry if I missed anyone). I was truly impressed with the level of service they provided to everyone on board. I was initially hesitant to book this trip out of concern for it being too crowded or too much of a younger, party-hard crowd, but that was not at all the case. East Island Excursions does a top-notch job & I highly recommend them based on my experience.

This experience is one to remember

I was extremely pleased with the customer service on this excursion. Anyone can take the ferry in Puerto Rico and have access to culebra beaches, but this experience is one to remember and not one to miss. I came with my family (6 people) and at first we were hesitant about the price compared to just taking the ferry but it was worth every $. I vacation often and take many excursions and not often do I feel like you get the true value of what you pay for, but with this company you do.

We did the half day tour to culebra (flamenco beach) and snorkeling. Everything you need is provided for you expect sunscreen and a towel. I will definitely be back.
