Carefree Yacht Charters

Catamaran Yacht Charters

Our crewed catamaran charters are our clients most popular charter choice, on our BVI yacht charters or our crewed USVI yacht charters

Why Choose a Catamaran?

  • Spacious accommodations: A crewed catamaran offers wide, open spaces, including large, shaded cockpits, roomy salons, comfortable forward trampolines plus fly-bridge decks on many of our newer options.
  • Stability under sail: These yachts provide superb stability while at anchor plus remain flat under sail, making a catamaran an ideal choice for first time charterers and family yacht charters .
  • Ideal layouts: The layouts on these yachts typically provide 3 to 5 staterooms in separate areas of the yacht, providing guests with maximum privacy and comfort.

A multi-repeat client and group of couples that we booked aboard 62' Catamaran Serenity Now in early April 2022 said

Yes, it is a long trip back to Seattle, 18+ hours from the deck of Serenity Now to our front door just past midnight! But the cruise was excellent, starting with your service which was perfection as always. Thanks again for a wonderful trip! Tom M., Washington

The Caribbean is an all-natural wonderland onshore, but likely most of all, it’s an ocean laden with treasures, from miniature shore ridden coral atolls to large mountainous islands exuding colourful and rich traditions. More than ever crewed luxury yachts are starting to investigate distant and more exotic Caribbean Isles, so request captain or your charter agent to find out more on some of these more distant treasures. If you are an expert sailor, now it’s the time to enjoy your Caribbean catamaran bareboat charters . Because of the scale and diversity of the various yacht and catamaran charter regions of the Caribbean we’ve covered the important charter places separately. Please notice that if there’s a charter boat cruising place, not covered here that you’re interested in, please contact us and we’ll provide that info to you in the form of a yacht charter itinerary. Both beginner and skilled private yacht charterers alike are brought to the Caribbean for safe waterways, its warm winds and delightful anchorages. The Caribbean is an unique area that’s beautiful tropical islands that lie as laid out on a big blue sea snug within a tropical isle necklace.

The Caribbean is also steeped in a rich history of sailing experience. Since the days of pirates and galleons the Caribbean has been host to some of the most pleasing sailing everywhere on earth. The trouble is, with charter boat operators and so many outstanding Caribbean catamaran charter places to select type, where do you begin when planning a vacation?

WHEN & WHERE TO ENJOT YOUR CATAMARAN CHARTER CARIBBEAN

The Caribbean main high season is from mid-December to March, when the winter escapees from Europe and North America arrive in their best amounts. Although hurricanes are in general uncommon in the southern Caribbean, the hurricane season is from late July to early October. Sadly, they can be common around Cuba , Bahamas and the east shore of the U.S. every few years. This is the most inexpensive time for chartering in the Caribbean and there are some great deals. Nonetheless, along with running the risk of thunderstorms, this time of year also will be related to lighter (or nonexistent) winds.

As with many places that are boating the Caribbean shoulder season, in this event from April to July, is also an excellent time as there are coast based visitors, some wonderful settled bright weather, and warm yet constant wind to charter a boat. The Caribbean is composed of many distinct multi-state (and multicultural) volcanic isles.

Here is a simple list of some of the Caribbean luxurious yacht charter hotspots to contemplate when you lease you luxurious crewed charter yacht experiencing. This is by no means an extensive list and there’s more info on things to see and do under each Caribbean private yacht charter place in the Caribbean. Additionally, when you hire a yacht with us we’ll give you a customised hand that you and your crew have a couple thoughts to pick from on your own charter written itinerary idea.

THE CARIBBEAN CATAMARAN CHARTER BENEFITS:

Catamarans supply firmness, seclusion, comfort and a big cockpit and are ample. The charters can be incredibly lavish, with all the amenities of a resort. In the Caribbean , cruisers spend nearly all their time lounging, eating or reading in the boat’s cockpit, making the catamaran ideal for a relaxing experience. Monohulls are for those who genuinely love the sport of sailing. They heel over at 30 to 35 degrees, making them wetter and less cozy, but they offer sailing functionality that far surpasses that of the catamarans.

HOW TO PLAN YOUR CARIBBEAN CATAMARAN RENTALS:

The initial step in planning a charter will be to determine how many islands to see given your time frame. Research charter companies and decide which island you want as a foundation; then you can plan an itinerary for the week, taking into consideration distances between islands and factoring in activities like snorkelling, scuba diving, island exploration, volcano hiking and shopping.

The most important part of planning a sailing excursion is selecting your crew members. It’s not unusual to experience and hear about personalities clashing on charters. At these times, money and time is squandered on what could have been a great trip. Choose those who have had at least a little sailing experience. Just as a captain on a plane has the final say, so does a captain of a boat.

CARIBBEAN CATAMARAN BAREBOAT CHARTERS:

For seasoned sailors, it is thrilling to sail among the four principal islands: Martinique , St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada . With constant 10- to 25-knot winds, the sailing is among the best on the planet. Anchoring nightly in peaceful and safe anchorages gives sailors liberty to explore and soak up British and French isle culture.

7 DAYS SAILING ITINERARY IN THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS:

caribbean-catamaran-rentals-bvi-itinerary-week

Day 1st – Depart Roadtown, Tortola for The Bight, Norman Island  You can stop at the entry of Normal Island to snorkel the Caverns. The sea life isn’t really vibrant, but it’s exciting to snorkelling into some of the caverns, which are not rather deep. Pick up a mooring buoy in The Bight. The William Thornton called Willie T is the pirate ship that is floating /restaurant you can’t miss. The feeling is fun and the food is rapid. Ashore is the Pirates Pub bar & grill where you will generally hear live music, pleasure. Beware of the barrelled pirate rum!

Day 2nd – Depart The Bight, Norman Island for the Indians Pick up a mooring buoy. The Indians is mainly a dive and snorkel spot. The stone are dark coloured as they protrude above the waterline, but under the waterline is a view that is completely different! The reef is like a wall of tropical fish, sea fans and brilliant coral.

Day 3rd – Depart the Indians for Cooper Island and Salt Island Cooper Island has a restaurant ashore for dining and a white, palm fringed beach for exploring. The scenery is quite unique from the other islands as it is more open, yet very well protected. At nighttime you’ll be able to see across the Sir Francis Drake Channel and occasionally can catch a glimpse of a 200’ schooner with lighted sails. This is a great area for the children to a little fun on the dinghy. And, one of the finest characteristics it the sunset! It’s certainly fantastic…colours like you haven’t seen! Pick up a mooring buoy. Salt Island is the well known place of the Wreck of the RMS Rhone. This is an excellent location for the divers in your group to take their first dive. It’s possible for you to rent dive equipment to take onboard or you can set up a rendezvous ahead of time. Salt Island is, in addition, great for exploring. Ashore are three salt ponds which belong to the British Crown, but are managed by the local people. You can purchase salt that is picked, research the shore to find several shells, numerous kinds of stone and sea glass.

Pick up a mooring buoy for your overnight stay. Trellis Bay is famous for full moon celebrations, which bring a fantastic celebration with a delicious BBQ, mocho jumbee stilt dancers, fire jugglers, live music and astounding fireballs! Besides the monthly full moon parties, Trellis Bay is also a very energetic bay decorated with tons of local artwork created by Aragorn who owns the art studio in Trellis Bay. The fresh baked bread loaves are delectable!

catamaran-sailing

Day 4th – Depart Trellis Bay for The Bathrooms  Leave early so you can fix a prime mooring buoy at the Baths! The Baths are unbelievable with enormous boulders (house sized) actually piled in addition to each other. There are several routes through the boulders that lead from one amazing shore to the next. There’s a pool, and a restaurant for an enjoyable lunch with an amazing view at the top at the Baths.

The hi-light of the bathrooms is undoubtedly the rock climbing/exploring (there are ladders, platforms and ropes to assist), but the snorkelling is, in addition, awesome. It is simple to spend all day here!

Day 5th – The Baths for Gorda Sound You should depart by early day from the Baths to pick up an overnight mooring ball in Gorda Sound. There are several places to go and explore. Eating at Saba Rock isn’t recommended, but you should truly see with Saba Rock where you are able to walk around the back side of the isle in the Saba Rock Gardens – the landscaping is beautiful and encompassed completely with conch shells. There are hammocks to relax in, a gift shop, a game room and you’re sure to find huge tarpon at the pier after sunset. The Bitter End is, in addition, excellent for night time fun.

This is mainly a snorkel and dive stop. The reef is huge, incredibly vibrant and dynamic. This would be a great location for a dive. Great Harbour is home of the infamous Foxy’s. Really dynamic parties can be discovered several times a year. Foxy frequently plays his guitar live adlibbing tunes as he goes – typically humorous songs about anyone in his presence, when the enormous bash isn’t happening. It’s a good time. The BBQ dinner is really great. There is usually a friendly, crab-chasing gold Labrador on the seashore. You can cool down with a delicious ice cream at the store just a brief walk down the shore.

catamaran-rental

Day 6th – Green Turtle Cay You’ll drop anchor at Sandy Cay or pick up a mooring buoy at Green Turtle Cay. Both offer white sandy, deserted isles with snorkelling, exploring and swimming. This would be a great time for a picnic lunch!

Cane Garden Bay is completely seashore ashore with water sports and restaurants. Quito, a well-known local vocalist is excellent for night-time enjoyment (at times isn’t overly good for children), but the best food is found at Myett’s Garden Inn and Grille (highly recommended.) If you’d like to do some exploring Callwoods rum distillery is also found at Cane Garden. There is some snorkelling, but Cane Garden Bay is best for relaxing on the beach. This is a terrific place to rent a water bike or a kayak if you don’t lease any water playthings for your yacht. You will comprehend the infamous tire- swing ashore whose image is used in several magazines that are Caribbean.

GENERAL AREAS WORTHY OF TRAVELLING TO SEE:

– Gustavia Harbour in St Barts – European quintessence, nightlife, restaurants and shopping – Nelson in Dockyards in Antigua – attractiveness and history in a harbour – Sundown in St Lucia – St Kitts from Brimstone Hill Fortress for the beauty, history and spectacular views – Anegada for its abandoned beaches, reefs that are fringed and the unique flora and fauna of the salt ponds – The BVI s for anchorages and the wonderful beaches – Guadeloupe for its diversity – cosmopolitan flair is offered by one side, bordered by coral reefs and beaches and the other has open lands with volcanic summits, the rich, rainforest and waterfalls.

SHORT LIST OF CARIBBEAN CATAMARAN VACATIONS OCCASIONS:

– St Bart ’s Pail – Grenada Sailing Holiday – Heineken Regatta – a Caribbean sailing and celebration Regatta – The Heineken St Maartens . – Here is the complete list of sailing events and Caribbean catamaran rentals.

SOME OF THE RECOMMENDED CARIBBEAN CATAMARAN CHARTER AREAS:

Please be aware that if there’s a charter boat cruising region, not covered here that you are interested in, please contact us and we will offer you that advice in the type of a yacht charter itinerary.

On all skippered charters the clinet has to take care of the yacht's provisioning or hire a hostess to supply the boat. For crewed yacht charters the food and beverages are provided through the Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA). Provisions can be purchased by your hostess in advance. The unspent part of the charter APA is later returned to the guests or spent on marina fees and fuel during your week.

Is it better to hire a Cook or a Hostess?

Bareboat yacht charter in Croatia  also provides multitude of options to hire various crew members at skippered charters ( cook and hostess ). Please find below which option suits your holiday style better and what are the assignments they do.

1. Chartering a Hostess

Guests usually book our hostess when they want to have a relaxing and a care-free sailing holiday in Croatia. She can perform various tasks, on board and off board, that you usually have to take care alone when you hire a bareboat sailing charter in Croatia . Our crew is all fluent in English and sometimes also multilingual. Together with our local skipper, they will make sure that your cruising adventure in Croatia is and indulging and a one-of a-kind experience.

Basic assignments of a hostess

  • keeping all areas on yacht clean and tidy
  • handling the provisioning throughout the trip (shopping for supplies, stocking boat lockers before and during your trip)
  • she prepares and serves two light meals daily (breakfast and one simple lunch). Extra meals are option with an additional fee.
  • washes the dishes, cleans the galley and salon

A Tip: We advise to transfer her some APA money (advanced provisioning allowance) so that she can supply your boat before arrival.

2. Hiring a Cook/Chef

The general assignment for cook on board is to prepare 3 meals a day , considering the client's preferences and what kind of food do they want. Usual fee for cook starts at  170€ per day . However, it can vary and mostly depends the boats size and number of the guests aboard.

How much does it cost to hire a hostess?

That depends on the level of the tasks, requests and how many guests are there to cater. Her basic fee is 130€ per day and can go up to 180€ . This fee does not include gratuity nor the meals for the crew; They can join you for meals or allow 30€ pocket money per crew member per day.

Where does a hostess sleep?

The front bow cabins on catamarans are usually occupied with the crew, that is why we recommend to charter sailing yacht with 2 separate crew cabins. Most of the sailing catamarans in Croatia have such a layout. Sometimes, the crew can also sleep in the salon, but it is not something we advise, since everyone needs time to rest, so they can give you their best during the day.

It is also customary to take care of the crew's meals on your sailing trip. Feel free to invite your crew to join you at the dinner, they will be more than happy. If you wish to dine in privacy, they can east separately.

A Tip: When you hire a hostess you already have 2 meals included. That gives you extra time to explore the islands where you can dine in a local restaurant your crew will be happy to recommend. Here you can taste Dalmatian delicacies in fisherma's tavern called "konoba" - a must try!

How to book a private sailing charter in Croatia?

  • Choose preferable date in  inquiry form

What is the best time to sail in Croatia?

Best time for sailing in Croatia is definitively in summer months June July and August when the weather is simply glorious and everything is in full swing.

Is it better to charter a sailboat or a catamaran?

It is all up to your expectations and your budget.

In Croatia you can charter almost everything that floats. To rent a sailing boat in Croatia with skipper assures you to discover the most beautiful islands at your own pace and with a flexible route itinerary. It is considered the most genuine and fashionable way of exploring Adriatic coast.

On sailboats you mostly depnd on winds, but sailing yacht will give you more sailing pleasures with minimum fuel consumption. Catamarans are wider, more stable, and extra comfortable. Commodity however, also means higher rental price, larger costs on fuel and marina fees.

When it comes to quality of staying on board, catamarans ensure more privacy and space. Most of the catamarans for chartering in Croatia have cozy flybridge that provides extra places to chill or sunbathe. If you want to move faster and your main concern is not large fuel consumption, simply hire a motor yacht.

If you think green, rent a sailboat

Less consumption means less exhaust into the sea. Especially if you are an active explorer, you will certainly try to stay most of the time under sails. Hiring a sailboat in Croatia is definitively more exciting, fun and authentic holiday experience with an opportunity to gain some sailing knowledge and participate in various activities during your yacht charter week.

Choosing a sailing boat to suit your travelling style and budget

To narrow your choice, you should first estimate how much space do you need and how high can you stretch. Larger the group, bigger the boat, bigger the yacht, larger the cost. When you plan  sailing trip with children , catamaran might be a better choice. If you stay on a budget, a sailing yacht with 2 steering wheels and bathing platform should do. Usually 2 families rent one catamaran to divide the costs. One hull for one family.

How long does a sailing trip last?

Croatia sailing charter runs on weekly basis from Saturday to Saturday. However, in shoulder season (September, May, October, June ) short sailing trips are also possible. To explore Croatia's coastline highlights and visit the most beautiful secluded treasures of the Dalmatian coast, we recommend to book one of our  7 day private sailing cruises .

Which islands are best to visit in Croatia?

Island hopping is one of the most exciting and authentic ways to travel around this hidden Mediterranean jewel. A week-long private Croatia sailing trip  is an exclusive way to explore some of the most remarkable Croatian islands, impressive marine national parks, hidden beaches with crystal clear water, secluded villages and genuine hospitality of the local people, inviting you to taste the topmost island culinary works of art.

Be sure not to miss these gems on your cruising adventure:

  • Hvar - is the "royalty" of Dalmatian coast, reflecting the perfect harmony between the old and the new
  • Unije - tiny isolated island located In  Kvarner , surrounded with crystal clear waters and one lovely village
  • Silba -  the island of love and intact emerald bays located near Zadar
  • Dugi Otok - the cradle of intact natural parks and a yachting heaven. Visit the highest lighthouse of the Croatian coast "Veli rat"
  • Kornati  - the natural beauty of the lunar Kornati national park is simply breathtaking
  • Kaprije -   charming fishing village near Sibenik is the fusion of unmatchable local cuisine and genuine people
  • Šolta -  the impressive blend of lush green landscapes and sustainable local products
  • Brac -  "stone kingdom of Croatia" for leisure seekers and explorers
  • Vis -  the "secret" island of legends, myths and natural wonders located in the middle of Adriatic. Spend one night in old town Komiža
  • Korcula -  Follow  Dubrovnik sailing itinerary and visit the island of travelers, rich cultural heritage and top Wines

Can you swim in Croatia in September?

September  and October are the perfect months for a relaxing sailing cruise in Croatia . The sea temperatures are pleasant for swimming and still above 20 o (70F). With abundance of sun (especially on the islands) the air keeps constant 25 o (77F) during the day almost until late October. Expect lower yacht rental prices, less crowds on city streets and ports, maritime traffic is lower and you can always get a free berth in marina.

What should I bring on a yacht charter?

With plenty of sunny days and mild Med. climate, Croatia is among sunniest European destinations. Summertime on Adriatic is simply glorious. Sun-soaked Dalmatian islands are literally bathing in sunbeams, while the air is dry and the sea warm. If your sailing trip is in summer season, simply bring your summer wardrobe.

It is highly recommended to bring your soft handbag or a duffel bag  or rucksack instead of a plastic suitcase to gain more space in your cabin. Please read about the Sail Croatia Packing List for newbies and  remember to pack light.

8 Things that you don't want to forget:

  •   boarding pass/voucher
  •   sun protection items (sun lotion, sunglasses for UV protection, hat)
  •   bathing suit or a swimsuit
  •   your passport, or personal ID, enough cash, health insurance
  •   swimming towels
  •   your personal items (prescription pills, medicine for allergy...)
  •   a wind stopper or a wind breaker in summer a long-sleeved cardigan would do
  •   positive vibes (leave your worries at home)

Saronic Island Greece Catamaran Charter Holidays

Tucked south of Athens in the shelter of the Saronic Gulf, the Saronic Islands are well known for their ancient ruins, sandy beaches, and clear blue waters. Our Greece catamaran charter holidays focus on a mixture of inhabited and uninhabited islands that make up the Saronic, with a few mainland harbours thrown into the mix, too. This escape from the tourist rush and bigger cruise boats offers a variety of uninhabited islands to explore alongside the four main populated islands – Salamis, Aegina, Agistri, and Poros. The Saronic showpiece undoubtedly has to be Hydra, known as the jewel of the Saronic. Hydra has no car traffic, so donkeys are the best way to get around! A must-visit is the UNESCO heritage site of the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, one of the best preserved in Greece.

From afternoon anchorages on remote islands lined with crystal coves to the very best, tried and tested tavernas on the main islands, there won’t be time to see it all, and you’ll soon be longing to return before you’ve even stepped foot off the boat.  Read our guide to the Saronic Islands here >

Cyclades Island Greece Catamaran Charter Holidays

Dotted south of mainland Greece, sheltered in the Aegean Sea, the Cyclades consist of around 220 inhabited and uninhabited islands. Our Greece catamaran charter holidays concentrate on the Lesser Cyclades, often called the pearl of the Cyclades, away from the tourist crowds.

Here, it’s all about switching off and adapting to island time. Snorkel in bays and caves, wander local villages, and enjoy traditional Greek tavernas, of which the skippers know the very best.

Zorba Cat anchored greece

A highlight of any Greece catamaran holiday is undoubtedly the dramatic mountain island of Amorgos , home to a breathtaking monastery carved into the rock. Here, the monks are waiting for you at the top with delicious pelmeni (spiced “baked” raki) and loukoumi after your stair climb. On the way back to Naxos, Paros (with its quieter sister Antiparos) offers guests a chance to visit and feel the “real Greece” with its relaxed local atmosphere.  Read our full guide to the Cyclades islands here >

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.

Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.

From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.

The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.

So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

Great knowledge of the area and its history.

Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.

We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Christine August 22, 2021

Yannis is a superb captain

First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.

We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.

The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht

We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!

Thanks Yiannis.

Booking Conditions

Total cost for booking is a combination of fixed and variable rates and includes boat, taxes, crew, fuel mooring fees, breakfast, light lunch, soft drinks, water and tea/coffee.

All bookings typically run Saturday at 4pm to the following Saturday at 10am but shorter bookings and day extensions may be available on request.

Prices shown refer start and finish at a designated “home port”, port of Lavrion.

Being on the south-east tip of the Attica peninsula is indeed an advantage. The port is only about 30 km from Athens’ international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” and is therefore quicker to get to than the yacht harbours in Athens. The Cyclades Islands are practically right at your doorstep and are only a few nautical miles away. It is an ideal starting point to the discover the Cyclades and the Saronic Islands. The good location is certainly a reason why a large number of charter companies have set up their home port here. Equipped with high quality infrastructure, Lavrion offers all the necessary amenities for your stopover.

Lavrion has been a centre for mining since ancient Greek times. Mineral ores are still being exploited today. One of the largest employers in the municipality is the power station to the north-east of the town which supplies power to Athens. The power station can only be seen on the way in to the harbour, but not from the harbour itself. Since 1994, Lavrion has realised the location’s tourist value and since then the town has been making an effort to meet the standards of the neighbouring towns and villages, which are clearly more affluent. Nowadays, the municipality looks very different. In the town centre, around the fish market, the streets are now paved with large cobblestones which makes the town look really pretty. There are many small cafés and cosy taverns between the small park and the main street. Lavrion today has definitely become a very attractive place.

50% deposit is required to make all bookings. BTC accepted.

Cancellation fees as a percentage of total booking cost: 0-60 days 100%, 61-180 days 50%, more than 180 days 10%.

Customers must take adequate travel insurance and provide proof if asked.

Guests must agree to follow the skipper’s instructions at all times.

Cabins are cleaned each day, and linen is changed twice a week.

All customers must sufficiently fit and healthy. The skipper has the right to refuse boarding to any guest who he believes is not sufficiently able and may endanger themselves or other crew-members.

The safety and well-being of our guests is always our top priority, but that commitment takes on special significance in light of the global outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus). We are committed to following recommended procedures and protocols of the CDC, the World Health Organization and local health authorities.

17 Best Catamarans for Sailing Around the World

Catamarans are quickly outstripping single-hull boats for long-distance journeys. They are more stable and comfortable , and some can travel more than 200 miles in a day. In today’s article, I have put together a complete (well almost) list of some of the best catamarans for circumnavigating the planet; the question is, which one is best for you?

The best catamarans for sailing around the world include:

  • The Fountaine Pajot Ipanema 58

These cats focus on speed, safety, and comfort for longer journeys.

This article will show you the seventeen best catamarans for long journeys, and why they’re the best. You’ll also learn some great tips on what to look for in a Catamaran and how to save money by buying a used catamaran. Let this list be a jumping-off point for your future research!

Pro-tip; here are the actual costs of maintaining a cat and here are considerations on how to circumnavigate .

Table of Contents

The Best Catamarans for Sailing Around the World

A catamaran is a double-hulled boat with a deck or cabin area in between (bluewater cat definition in this article ). The double hull design means that the boat rocks less, sits higher on the water, uses less fuel to sail, and can be sailed in shallower waters than a single-hulled boat without worrying about grounding.

Catamarans come in a variety of sizes and can be sail-powered or motor-powered and range from single-person sailing boats to family-sized yachts. Every catamaran design is different, and the twin-hull shape offers many ways to customize the layout of a ship.

Each boat on this list is a larger catamaran (+40ft, more on size here ), so if you’re going to sail around the world, you want lots of space for provisions and rest.

Of course, there are tons of technical specs for each of these boats, but I’m going to focus on the overall features of each of these catamarans, what makes them stand out, and why they would each be an excellent choice for a transatlantic journey.

Antares 44i

The Antares 44i is an excellent option for sailing around the world and was explicitly designed for long-distance cruising. It performs well in any weather conditions, can be sailed easily by two people, and you’ll be able to sail long distances and live in comfort.

Although it can be easily sailed by a crew of two I believe that a true bluewater cat should be set up for single-handed sailing, more on that in another article .

This catamaran features a stateroom on each hull and a forward cabin with plenty of storage space. The living and entertainment features include a flatscreen tv and a high-end deck speaker system.

With this model, Antares dedicates itself to high-quality boats with optimal rigging and engine configurations.

Atlantic 42

Atlantic is no longer building this catamaran, but there are usually a few pre-owned boats on the market. You can also get it made custom if you love the design, but be prepared to spend more money on a custom boat (custom boat also gets custom problems ;)).

The Atlantic 42 is slightly smaller than some of the other catamarans on this list but is a seaworthy vessel. 42 ft is what most sailors I interview ( in this article ) said was the smallest cat to safely cross big oceans. It is also a decent size to counter the risk of capsizing (more on that here ).

It has a forward cockpit and pilothouse, which gives the owner a better use of space and makes the boat easier to navigate. With single-handed capability, one person can sail it easily and let the rest of the crew relax.

One of the best-praised aspects of the Atlantic 42 is its galley, more extensive than most 42-footers (12.8-meter) can offer.

One of the few 50 footers (15.24 meters) that can be sailed by just one person (many would of course disagree on this).

The Catana 50 is a catamaran worthy of an overseas journey. Its size adds to its stability on the open waters and its ability to sail straight through the choppy ocean and windy conditions.

The Catana is also incredibly spacious on the inside, with substantial cabins and showers. The biggest downside to the Catana 50 is its price, as it’s much more expensive than most of its competitors.

Catana also holds up well against some of the fastest cruising cats out there, here’s a list of the fastest cruisers if you are interested in that.

However, if you can find a gently-used Catana 50, you can rest assured that this boat will last!

The Dolphin 42 is unique because of the use of daggerboards instead of fixed keels. This upgrade means that the boat has some pretty decent upwind performance while at the same time being faster downwind.

Centerboards and daggerboards offer some interesting downsides compared to mini keels. This is an interesting discussion and I suggest you read another one of my articles if you want to deepen your knowledge a little.

These catamarans are some of the lightest on the market. Not many Dolphins were made, so they are relatively hard to find. However, if you want a small, lightweight boat capable of going great distances, the Dolphin 42 is an excellent choice.

Fountaine Pajot Belize 43

The Fountaine Pajot Belize is another well-built cruising yacht. Its core is made of foam instead of balsa, which reduces the risk of structural damage due to a rotten core in case of water intrusion.

The design of Belize offers many options for customizability, with large open spaces and a combined saloon, navigation, and dinette area.

There are two styles of Belize catamarans for sleeping quarters. You can either purchase a boat with an entire primary suite on one hull or one with two cabins in each hull. The first option is great if you are sailing the world alone and not expecting many guests, as it increases the storage capacity.

Understanding what factors to consider when getting a cat can be hard, there are just so many of them (such as the daggerboard discussion above), I have tried to compile some of the most important in this article .

The boat also has wraparound windows to increase the sense of space in the galley.

Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40

Fountaine Pajot is one of the best sailboat manufacturers existing today, as their boats are well made and highly versatile. The Lucia 40 is no exception – it’s a smaller boat but has a lot of room for moving around and on-board living.

The living area is remarkably spacious on this catamaran for its size.

The galley and lounge easily accommodate 6+people. The Lucia 40 doesn’t disappoint when it comes to sailing either, as the narrow hulls slice through choppy waters with ease.

Most catamarans today are built to withstand rough weather but that doesn’t matter as much if the crew isn’t up for the task, I firmly believe that the most important thing a boat should consist of, is knowledge. Therefore taking online courses ( two free here ) or reading books ( my favorites here ) is imperative.

Gemini 105M

Gemini’s boats have been on the market for years and are solidly built for cruising. This boat is one of the most popular ever made, I personally would consider something different for offshore cruising, but since it has such a good reputation, I felt I had to add it to the list.

If you want to understand why I am hesitant to take this boat around the world, I recommend you read my article: What are trampolines on a catamaran?

The Gunboat 62 is a great catamaran and set the standards for the rest of the impressive Gunboat lineup. It’s sleek and spacious while being robust and capable of transatlantic journeys. You can easily travel the world in a Gunboat 62 with several people and not feel cramped.

The yacht was made for speed and power and remains one of the fastest catamarans on the market, even rivaling the newer Gunboat models.  GABO

Although the earlier models of the Gunboat 62 weren’t designed for a lot of cargo, you can still find space for everything you need without compromise.

Lagoon catamarans are known for their reliability and ease of use. If you are considering a catamaran for the first time and are unsure about the technicalities of sailing, a Lagoon boat is a great option.

The Lagoon 380 is probably the smallest cruiser on this list, which makes it better suited for solo or couple sailing.

When I go looking to buy something, whether it be a boat, campervan, or whatever, I create a checklist and classify all the things I want either by NEED or NICE to have.

I believe the Lagoon 380 to be sub-optimal for my NEEDS, even though it does check a lot of NICE boxes, there’s a step-by-step article on the NEED and NICE method here .

There are several cabin options available on the Lagoon 380, but if you’re sailing by yourself, you can settle for three cabins and a larger galley and living space. With a smaller cockpit and broader side decks, the Lagoon 380 packs a lot of practicality and ease of sailing into a more compact catamaran.

If you like the idea of a Lagoon boat but want a little more space, the Lagoon 42 is the upgraded version of the Lagoon 380. With all of the same benefits, it comes with more space for cabins or storage, making it one of the best-selling Lagoons of all time.

The Lagoon 42 is also a faster cruiser built for strength. While it’s not the fastest on the market, it works well in choppy waters and windy conditions, making it great for the beginning sailor to go on a more extended trip.

Many people have completed an around-the-world sail with this ship.

Although there is a flybridge version, I would recommend the “open” version due to several factors, some including increased windage and a higher boom. More on flybridges pros and cons here .

For stability, safety, and durability, you can’t beat the Lagoon 42.

The Leopard 45 performs better with less storage weight because of the relatively low bridge deck clearance. If the boat is fully loaded, you could experience some wave pounding. However, the cockpit is open and airy, with devices that block the sun and provide maximum comfort while sailing.

The Leopard 45 is an incredibly beautiful boat,   and has a strong reputation for excellent build quality!

Leopard catamarans are one of my personal favorites, as such I have written an entire article about the brand, so if you want to understand its pros and cons then here is the link . Gabo

Designed in South Africa, it features a high rear arch for extra support and very smoothly connected decks. The galley is large and open, and most Leopards offer a four-cabin plan. If you are traveling with another person, this boat is an excellent option for you!

The Manta 42 is another classic catamaran that you can buy used (at a decent price), as it is an incredibly seaworthy vessel. While still in production, the Manta was one of the most popular catamarans on the market.

It is still in high demand amongst circumnavigators. Buying a used Manta 42 usually means that you inherit some of the previous owner’s boat upgrades!

The Manta 42 also made it to my list of the 9 safest catamarans on the market ( link ).

This blue water cat can be sailed by one or two people, making it ideal for liveaboard couples or long-distance shorthanded sailing. The galley is in the saloon ( instead of in one of the hulls ), making the cabins below more spacious and better equipped.

Overall, the Manta is well equipped for sailing around the world.

Nautitech 44

Nautitech is an excellent brand of the catamaran, with several different designs per boat. The Nautitech 44 has a unique feature, you can have it with two options for steering: twin wheels or a single wheel.

The Nautitech 44 also features a cockpit on the same level as the saloon. The door between the two is more convenient than a hatch and dramatically reduces the risk of water damage during rain pour.

This is also the same boat that aeroyacht president Gregor owns, he has offered some great insights into Nautitech in the book Catamarans (amazon link )

Outremer 45

Outremer is famous for being one of the fastest brands of catamarans on the market. If you need speed, the Outremer 45 might be the perfect choice for you. It has a top speed of 16 knots, which is higher than almost every other catamaran of its class.

While the Outremer 45 is known for speed, it doesn’t compromise on the quality of living.

You can settle into life on this boat with complete peace of mind. Even as a beginning sailor, the steering is simple and easy to use, and the autopilot is top of the line, so you’ll be able to sail across the ocean in an Outremer without issue.

Privilege Serie 5

A French-designed catamaran, the Privilege Serie 5 is one of the most comfortable 50-foot (15 m) yachts available. The unique cabin layout includes the master cabin in the boat’s center instead of in one of the hulls.

The Privilege Serie 5 is also incredibly easy to sail, despite its larger size.

The sails and controls lead to the helm, where the raised deck makes it easy to see all around the deck. If you want to cross the ocean with a full crew then the Privilege Serie 5 might be perfect for you!

Seawind 1000

The Seawind 1000 is the smallest boat on this list, measuring 33 feet (10 meters) long altogether. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s not livable. If you are sailing on your own or with a partner, there is more than enough space to live in the Seawind 1000, which includes the option of a centered cabin or two hull cabins.

Because it’s small, the Seawind 1000 is easy to handle. The mast and sails are all manufactured for extra stability and ease of use.

Overall, the Seawind 1000 is an excellent example of a simple, safe, and seaworthy catamaran.

Note: since this is a small catamaran it will also be more sensitive to heavy weather so trip-planning becomes even more important.

The Voyage 44 is one of the oldest cats on this list, having had its hay-day in the mid-1990s. However, this also means that a used Voyage 44 will be cheaper than a newer boat. If you can find a Voyage with previous responsible owners, you will inherit any upgrades and fixes that they’ve made on top of a very seaworthy boat.

The Voyage 44 has more storage and space than most cruisers of its size and is known for behaving very well in choppy waters.

This catamaran does its job well while providing adequate space for cooking, sleeping, and living aboard.

What To Look For in a Long-Distance Cruising Catamaran

If you are planning to sail around the world, you need to be very careful about which kind of catamaran you decide to use. Many of the things you want in a boat really comes down to personal preference, so be sure you know what design preferences you want before you start shopping!

Size and Payload

The most important thing to consider when buying a catamaran is how much space and cargo you need because the larger the boats are, the bigger the payload it can handle. Decide how long you want the ship to be and how much you’re taking with you.

It’s vital not to overload a catamaran, this will reduce performance and increase risk of unwanted behavior in heavy seas.

Cabin Placement

Most catamarans have options for a “Maestro” cabin placement, where one entire hull is the master suite, and the other cabins are located on the opposite hull.

Cockpit and Protection From The Weather

Is the cockpit on the boat you’re looking at covered or open? This can make a difference on the high seas, especially during rainy weather.

The size of the ship also can affect how many people you need as a crew. If you’re traveling by yourself or with one other person, you don’t want to buy a boat that needs a larger crew.

Buying Used?

If you don’t want to spend the money on a brand new catamaran, I don’t blame you. Several of the ships on this list are out of production and can only be found used. However, for circumnavigation, you do want a boat of high quality to keep you safe and dry until you make it to your destination.

When buying a suitably used catamaran, it’s essential to look at the refit history of the boat more than the year it was made. Catamarans are sturdy, and the general design has been the same for at least the past decade.

If you find a newer, larger, cheaper boat, you should look into its history.

Your best bet to save money while buying a catamaran will be to buy an older, probably smaller boat with an excellent refit history and no serious issues. It will still be an investment, and a sturdy used catamaran will serve you well.

Final Thoughts

No matter which catamaran you decide to buy for your journey, you’ll be able to sail safely and comfortably. Catamarans are great yachts for long-distance sailing, and the ships on this list are the best of the best. These brands are time-tested and ready to accompany you on an adventure around the world!

Here are Some of My Favorite Catamaran Cruising Resources

Thank you for reading this article. I hope you found it helpful as you hopefully start your sailing adventures. Here are some resources that I use as a sailor that I hope you’ll also find helpful. These are affiliate links, so if you do decide to use any of them, I’ll earn a commission. But in all honesty, these are the exact things that I use and recommend to everyone, even my own family. Sailboats: If you’re looking for the best boat to suit your needs, I would recommend a catamaran. If you’re interested, I can show you the differences between catamarans and other types of sailboats .

Books:  For getting started, I really like  Cruising catamarans made easy . It is actually a textbook from the American sailing association; it is used to get a cruising catamaran certification. There are some other great books, and I have compiled a list of books about cruising catamarans that you will find useful.

Communication:  Being out on adventures, whether it be sailing or climbing mountains, good communications are essential to being safe. I recommend two things Google fi (incredibly simple cellular data all over the world) and Garmin inreach mini (for text and voice in remote areas without cell coverage)

Sailing courses: Online sailing courses are great for beginners starting out their sailing career; it’s an efficient way of learning the basics of navigation, throttle controls, and maritime safety. I suggest starting with two free courses from NauticEd .

Five of the Top Power Catamarans

  • By Boating Tech Team
  • July 24, 2024

Somehow, the anglers knew. When power catamarans first started working their way into the mainstream a few decades ago, offshore fishermen were among the first adopters. They didn’t mind the different look because they knew what they were gaining in the stability and seakeeping that a twin-hull boat could provide. Soon the long-distance cruisers took to them too, as the secret got out that they could take to waters in smaller boats normally reserved for the biggest and burliest of V-hulls. Now? Cats are part of the big-boat circuit as well, with 35- to 50-footers seen roaming the canyons and cruising hotspots. If you like to roam outside the inlet, here are five of the biggest cats that get the job done.

  • Invincible 46 Pilothouse
  • Four Winns TH36
  • World Cat 400 CC-X

Invincible 46 Pilothouse running offshore

Invincible 46 Pilothouse

The Pilothouse version of the Invincible 46 allows you to overnight in style and comfort, or enjoy weather protection en route to the fish, and the 1,000-gallon fuel capacity gives the boat incredible range. When we tested this boat with quad Mercury Racing 450s, we recorded a range of 593.9 miles while cruising at 40.7 mph at 4,000 rpm. Top speed, if you’re wondering, was 71.2 mph. But this angling platform is about so much more than just the performance numbers.

The Invincible 46 rides on a hybrid-asymmetrical hull that combines the best of a proa cat’s efficiency with the wave slicing and stability of identical twin sponsons. The hulls are double-stepped to further improve efficiency and running attitude. This cat can handle heavy seas and provide comfort offshore on days when less-worthy boats are still in their slips.

The pilothouse allows the captain and crew to experience the ride in plush comfort. In addition to the helm seating and the aft U-shaped lounge, there is an aft row of captain’s chairs. However, you can delete the second-row seating and extend the lounge for a roomier feel. If you want some fresh air, the pilothouse opens up nicely with port and starboard sliding doors, helm and passenger sliding windows, and a power-sliding window on the aft bulkhead that opens the cockpit to the cabin. Belowdecks, there’s sleeping accommodations for four, plus a galley that can be custom-fitted to your needs.

Invincible 46 Pilothouse near the beach

Even with the pilothouse, Invincible bills this boat as having 360-degree fishability. There’s plenty of fish-fighting space in the cockpit and the bow, which can convert to a three-person sun pad when the lines are in. Bring all the bait you want with the dual 60-gallon transom livewells, along with the 70-gallon in-floor well. All are fed by a sea chest with six pumps to keep the bait fresh. A rigging station folds out of the mezzanine seatback so cleverly that we might have missed it in our initial inspection if it hadn’t been pointed out. Drawers and tackle-box slots keep gear, tools, and leader spools organized. Six shotgun rod holders on the transom will prove ideal for storage and rigging. There’s lockable rod storage under the gunwales too. The transom arrangement eschews a transom door, but Invincible has an inward-opening portside door for hauling fish to the deck.

Overall, the Invincible 46 Pilothouse is set up to be a badass long-distance fishing and cruising machine.

Four Winns TH36 in the ocean

Four Winns TH36

With an aggressively wide 14-foot-7-inch beam, the Four Winns TH36 packs a ton of creature comforts into this catamaran to exceed the needs of the typical dayboater. Start with the aft living room—er—cockpit, which rivals the setup of many backyard patios. The seating is genius; the cockpit lounges slide and lock in several positions, both with and without tables. Slide them outboard, and two L-lounges reside on each side of a central walkway. Slide them inboard, and you create a giant U-shaped lounge. At the cockpit’s forward end, large plush, upholstered double chaises face aft. It’s all one level from here, right up to the bow lounge. Amidships, a pair of counters to port and starboard house the galley. Lift the faux-stone lids to reveal a cooktop, sink and optional grill, with a fridge hiding underneath. The massive bow lounge provides even more social space for up to eight people.

The dual-console layout evokes the feel of a bowrider on steroids. The helm provides excellent visibility from the adjustable captain’s chair, from where the captain can observe twin MFDs mounted in a pod that extends from the top of the console without restricting the view beyond. We tested this boat with a pair of Mercury 350 Verados, achieving a top speed of 37.1 mph and a nice cruising speed of around 25 mph. With the twin hulls, we found the boat to be as smooth as silk while knifing through swells that might cause a similar-size V-hull to pound.

Four Winns TH36 overhead

While designed primarily for daytime roaming, the TH36 is set up to also be an overnight cruiser. Two cabins with queen berths reside belowdecks, each with its own separate head and shower. So you and your guests, or a family of four, can enjoy some privacy when it’s time to draw the curtains.

The extended platform between the outboards proved to be a favorite feature. It’s a great spot for taking a dip at anchor when the engines are off, but it also makes for a great boarding spot, showing that the TH36’s comfort factor starts before you even leave the dock.

World Cat 400 CC-X ready to fish

World Cat 400 CC-X

An OG in the power-cat space, World Cat has been producing center- and dual-console fishing catamarans for decades. Coming out on the heels of its 40-foot dual-console, the 400 CC-X is the flagship of its center-console fleet.

With a 604-gallon fuel tank, the 400 CC-X can deliver a range of over 600 miles, as proved during test day when, powered by quadruple Yamaha F300s, we recorded a range of 611.6 miles at a 27.5 mph clip at 4,000 rpm. You can get to the blue water and back, or the Bahamas if you live in Florida, and still have fuel to fish along the way.

Because of its long length and wide beam, the 400 CC-X can fit three high-back seats with armrests at the helm. The captain’s place would be at the center seat, which adjusts electrically behind the brushed-aluminum Edson wheel with brodie knob. The three-sided tempered-glass windshield provides wind and spray protection, while an electric opening vent at the top of the windscreen allows a breeze on hot days. Our test boat sported two 22-inch Garmin touchscreens—a trio of 17-inch displays is also offered—that showed everything, from systems (lighting, pumps, etc.) to the engine readouts. The 400 CC-X comes with a key-fob control, so you can turn on the lights and systems while walking on the dock. Some thoughtful touches at the helm include a padded recess atop the dash to securely hold phones and glasses, plus a handy glove box with a drain.

World Cat 400 CC-X headed offshore

In terms of fishy features, the 400 CC-X is stacked, with an inward-opening tuna door leading into the 200-square-foot cockpit, with padded coamings and nearly 30 inches of walk-around space past the console and T-top to chase fish. In the cockpit sole are a pair of 80-gallon insulated fish boxes (with overboard Grouper Gulper pumps) that can be optioned as bait tanks; another pair of 154-gallon fish boxes (5-by-2 feet) are forward. Up at the bow, there’s actually a casting platform that hides the Lewmar anchor windlass. Our tester boasted the optional Cat Track sliding seats forward, which can combine into a centerline coffin box, creating a sun pad, or separate into a U-lounge. So there’s definitely room to relax and chill. Rod capacity? There are four vertical holders on each side of the console, three rod racks on each side of the cockpit aft, six lockable racks forward, an additional six locking racks under each gunwale, plus six rocket launchers on the T-top—five behind the helm and 11 scattered around the bow. Bring your entire arsenal.

Aquila 47 Molokai cruising

The largest of the cats in this roundup, the Aquila 47 Molokai can take on square-edged seas with aplomb. When we tested it with four Mercury 400 Verados on the transom, we pointed the bow through the inlet and took on some serious swells with nary a shudder. It can run far, fish hard, and cruise in comfort—all in one finely appointed package.

Aquila’s heritage stems from the cruising side, so we’ll start with all the amenities designed to keep you in comfort between marina runs. Tucked into the low-profile console is a fully outfitted air-conditioned cabin with a queen berth; 6 feet, 7 inches of headroom; big windows; overhead skylights; and a surprisingly spacious head with shower. The genset is powered by lithium batteries that provide eight hours of juice for cooling the cabin.

Abovedecks, the 47 Molokai is all fishing. There are 22 rod holders all around the gunwales, plus attached to the carbon-fiber hardtop and in piping along the hardtop stanchions. Twin 42.5-gallon livewells are built into the transom for your baits, and insulated 4-foot, 148-gallon macerating fish boxes hide under deck hatches along the console walkways.

Aquila 47 Molokai anchored

Tucked under the carbon-fiber hardtop (reinforced for the optional Pipewelders tower) are seven Stidd seats: three up front behind the helm and four in the raised mezzanine to spectate the action. That helm is impeccable, from the eyebrowed black dash with twin (or triple) Garmin MFDs, C-Zone switching, custom Fusion audio, and Mercury joystick. Driving the 47 Molokai when equipped with 1,600 hp is an absolute blast. The double-stepped hulls keep the boat at a good attitude while running along at a crisp pace. We recorded a top speed of 66.5 mph with the throttles pinned, while still maintaining a range of 562 miles. Throttle back to a comfortable 48.1 mph cruising speed at 4,500 rpm, and the range jumps to 654 miles.

Overall, the Aquila 47 Molokai is a boat designed and built to go places.

Twin Vee 400 GFX2 running nearshore

Twin Vee 400 GFX2

The new Twin Vee 400 GFX2 is the next generation of the builder’s GFX model , with many redesigned features and a new digital control system to make operation smooth and seamless.

As of press time, we haven’t been able to get on the Twin Vee 400 GFX2, the newest model in the lineup. But we will soon. Here’s what we know about the company’s flagship offering. This boat is designed to be an offshore fishing machine. It will feature more than 450 square feet of deck space, 2,500 quarts of insulated storage, 150-gallon livewell capacity, and plenty of space to fight and land fish.

Twin Vee 400 GFX2 cresting over waves

Fishing-wise, the GFX will have twin 475-quart coffin boxes with stainless-steel inserts and two in-deck 700-quart fish boxes with macerators. There will also be four electric-reel outlets if you’re looking to fish deep. For rod holders, there will be 10 mounted into the gunwales per side, plus eight more on the hardtop piping aft of the helm. The main cockpit will have a rear-facing tackle station to prep your arsenal. A starboard-side tuna door helps for landing large pelagics and doubles as a great spot for dockside boarding. The helm has triple captain’s chairs, with additional seating for three just aft. A fully enclosed windshield keeps the captain and crew protected from the elements. The dash has space to mount twin 22-inch MFDs. A freshwater head in the console and transom jump seats add to the creature comforts.

The 400 GFX2 can be powered by quad Mercury, Yamaha or Suzuki outboards up to 1,800 hp total. Depending on your power choice, cruising speed should be in the mid-40s, with top speeds in the high 60 mph range.
