Cosa vedere e cosa fare a Castiglioncello

Castiglioncello è una delle località balneari più belle e famose di tutta la Toscana. Affacciato sul Mar Tirreno, lungo Costa degli Etruschi , Castiglioncello fa parte del comune di Rosignano Marittimo in provincia di Livorno. Questa piccola cittadina di mare vanta una posizione davvero invidiabile su un promontorio da cui si gode di bellissimi affacci sul mare e una vista panoramica davvero notevole. Il paesaggio circostante poi è fatto di belle colline e verdi pinete: un contesto paesaggistico davvero notevole.

Fin dal tempo degli Etruschi, e per moltissimi secoli, Castiglioncello è stato un semplice villaggio di pescatori, isolato ed ignorato dal resto del mondo. Nel XVII i Medici fecero costruire qui una torre di avvistamento ancora esistente. A partire dalla metà dell’Ottocento, Castiglioncello iniziò ad acquisire una sempre più fama come località balneare. In quel periodo era molto frequentata anche da intellettuali ed artisti, in particolare da esponenti della corrente dei Macchiaioli come Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega e Telemaco Signorini. Sul finire del XIX, Castiglioncello si arricchì del Castello Pasquini costruito dal barone Fausto Lazzaro Patrone. Fu il barone il primo a creare anche degli stabilimenti balneari attrezzati dando il via allo sviluppo del centro in senso turistico. Un altro importante impulso allo sviluppo di Castiglioncello come meta turistica arrivò negli anni ‘60 del Novecento quando ospitò il set del celebre film “ Il sorpasso ” con Vittorio Gassman e Jean-Louis Trintignant. Da allora diventò la meta prescelta per le vacanze di molte celebrità del cinema come Alberto Sordi e Marcello Mastroianni. Ancora oggi, Castiglioncello con la sua bellezza, le sue spiagge e la sua vita resta tra le località di mare più glamour e apprezzate della Toscana.

A Castiglioncello ci sono diverse spiagge che si trovano sia a nord che a sud e anche lungo il promontorio. Passando da un tratto di costa a l’altro si possono trovare situazioni molto diverse: alcune spiagge sono infatti caratterizzate dalla presenza di scogli o sassi, mentre altre sono sabbiose. In buona sostanza, se sceglierete Castiglioncello per le vostre vacanze al mare avrete solo l’imbarazzo della scelta!

Spiaggia Fortullino

La spiaggia più a nord di Castiglioncello si chiama Fortullino . Si tratta di una spiaggia sassosa con il fondale che diventa rapidamente profondo. C’è uno stabilimento balneare attrezzato ma date le sue caratteristiche non è certamente la spiaggia più adatta ai bambini. In compenso, il mare è bello e la spiaggia solitamente non è molto affollata.

Baia dell’Arancio

Poco più a sud del Fortullino troviamo la Baia dell’Arancio . Questa bella baia è caratterizzata da una spiaggia con un mix di sabbia e sassi. Nella parte più a nord si trova un piccolo molo mentre in quella più a sud c’è un bar dove si possono noleggiare anche sdraio e ombrelloni. L’area centrale è invece ad accesso libero. Anche qui il mare è bello e l’acqua è trasparente. Alle spalle di queste spiagge corre una fitta pineta, perfetta per ripararsi dal sole nelle ore più calde.

Spiaggia Le Forbici

Ancora un po’ più giù, lungo l’Aurelia, troviamo la Spiaggia Le Forbici . La spiaggia è ben riparata all’interno di una piccola baia. Qui sassi e scogli la fanno da padrone; sicuramente avrete bisogno delle apposite scarpette per potervi muovere agilmente su questa spiaggia. In compenso l’acqua è molto pulita e trasparente. Non vi consiglio di portarci i vostri bambini… a meno che non vogliate fare il pieno di ginocchia sbucciate!

Baia del Quercetano

Con la celebre Baia del Quercetano arriviamo finalmente all’altezza del centro abitato di Castiglioncello. Lungo la baia ci sono ampi tratti di spiaggia sabbiosa per lo più occupati da stabilimenti balneari anche se non mancano dei tratti ad accesso libero. Anche qui il mare è bello, dal fondale affiorano degli scogli ed infatti il fondale in alcuni punti è sassoso. Circondata da colline su cui si trovano alcune ville di gran lusso, la Baia del Quercetano è molto facile da raggiungere. Di contro, non è così facile trovare parcheggio.

Punta Righini

Punta Righini è il paradiso degli amanti degli scogli. Siamo proprio sulla punta del promontorio di Castiglioncello. Ci si può arrivare con una bella passeggiata sul Lungomare Alberto Sordi. Con l’eccezione di un unico stabilimento balneare, Punta Righini è completamente libera. Meno affollata rispetto alle altre spiagge della zona, Punta Righini è perfetta per chi si vuole rilassare lontano dagli schiamazzi … i più poetici sapranno anche apprezzare l’infrangersi delle onde sugli scogli.

Spiaggia del Circolo Nautico

Al termine di Punta Righini si apre una piccola baia semicircolare dove troviamo la Spiaggia del Circolo Nautico . Un tratto è occupato dal circolo nautico e non è un caso se spesso si trovano delle barche ormeggiate a breve distanza dalla riva. Gli altri tratti sono occupati da alcuni dei bagni più famosi di Castiglioncello. È una spiaggia sabbiosa, attrezzata con tutto quello serve e facilmente raggiungibile: se andate a Castiglioncello con bambini, questa spiaggia può essere la scelta giusta.

Spiaggetta del ginecologo

La Spiaggetta del “ginecologo” si trova sempre nell’area urbana di Castiglioncello. Si trova in una piccola baia ben protetta dagli scogli. Ci sono alcuni stabilimenti balneari ed anche un pezzettino di spiaggia libera.

Spiaggia libera I Pungenti

La spiaggia I Pungenti è una spiaggia fatta di scogli… pungenti! Facilmente raggiungibile dal Lungomare Alberto Sordi, per via della sua conformazione non è la spiaggia ideale in cui sdraiarsi a prendere il sole.

Spiaggia Caletta

Spiaggia Caletta è l’ultima spiaggia che incontriamo a Castiglioncello prima di raggiungere Rosignano Solvay. È una spiaggia non troppo ampia, di forma semicircolare, composta da un mix di sabbia e ciottoli. Il fondale è basso e quindi può essere una buona scelta se siete con bambini C’è uno stabilimento balneare ma parte della spiaggia è libera.

Come abbiamo visto, per quanto riguarda le spiagge, a Castiglioncello c’è solo l’imbarazzo della scelta. Ma oltre al mare, c’è qualcosa da vedere? La risposta è sì, Castiglioncello ha anche qualche monumento interessante ed un museo archeologico che merita di essere visitato. Le principali cose da vedere sono il Castello Pasquini e la Torre di Castiglioncello. Gli amanti del trekking possono invece organizzare un’uscita sul vicino Poggio Pelato.

Castello Pasquini

Situato nel centro di Castiglioncello, il Castello Pasquini fu costruito a partire dal 1889. Il castello fu realizzato in stile neogotico ad imitazione delle architetture medievali, con tanto di torre e merli sulle mura. Il castello ha una bel giardino e gode di un’eccellente posizione panoramica.

Torre di Castiglioncello

La Torre di Castiglioncello è un’antica postazione di avvistamento di epoca medicea (XVI secolo). La torre ha pianta quadrata e poggia su un solido basamento a scarpa. Non una grande altezza, una caratteristica che viene accentuata dal suo aspetto massiccio. Proprio di fronte alla torre si trova anche il piccolo Oratorio di Sant’Andrea.

Museo archeologico nazionale di Castiglioncello

Eccoci al momento culturale! Il Museo archeologico di Castiglioncello raccoglie i reperti provenienti da una necropoli etrusca datata tra il IV ed il I secolo a.C. che fu scoperta gli inizi del Novecento durante dei lavori.

Pineta Marradi

La Pineta Marradi è un grande spazio verde abitato da pini marittimi perfetto per una passeggiata all’ombra rinfrescante degli alberi. Al suo interno si trovano alcuni campi da tennis, un minigolf ed un cinema.

Come arrivare a Castiglioncello

Castiglioncello si trova a circa 20 chilometri da Livorno, 40 da Pisa e 110 km da Firenze. Potete facilmente raggiungere il centro sia con i mezzi pubblici che con l’auto. Castiglioncello ha una sua stazione ferroviaria ben collegata con i centri principali della Toscana. Da Firenze ci vuole un’ora e mezzo con Trenitailia; da Pisa mezz’ora e da Livorno bastano appena 15 minuti di treno.

In auto, se venite dalla costa potete facilmente raggiungere Castiglioncello attraverso la Strada Statale SS1 Aurelia (direzione sud da Pisa e Livorno, direzione nord da Piombino e Grosseto). Da Firenze dovete fare la FI-PI-LI, poi svoltare su A12 in direzione di Rosignano Marittimo e Castiglioncello.
