6 More Boats at the Show

History of the international multihull show.

The Multihull Show was launched in 2010 totally focused on exhibiting catamarans and trimarans in the water. Originally, the idea was to hold the show on the Atlantic coast (Lorient ) in even years and in the Mediterranean (La Grande-Motte) in odd years. Now the Show is held every year in April in La Grande-Motte. I guess the weather is just better!

  • 2010 -Lorient- The first show… 50 multihulls exhibited in the water at the Cité de la Voile, Eric TABARLY in Lorient.
  • 2011 – La Grande-Motte, the first Med edition with 60 multihulls on show.
  • 2012 – Back to the Atlantic.
  • 2013 – The fourth edition- the show made a permanent move to the Mediterranean.
  • 2014 – Visitors from around the world and the show continued to grow.
  • 2015 – The most successful edition in terms of boats sold
  • 2016 – 2019 – The show grows from strength to strength
  • 2020-21 – unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid19 pandemic.
  • 2022 – The show returns, bigger and better! The weather could have been better, but did the 15,000 visitors from all the continents of the planet care? No! With more than 65 multihulls exhibited, a record for the boat show!
  • 2023 – the story continues with the premier of the Outremer 52

Sailing A Catamaran

What are the best boat shows for sailboats.

With hundreds of boat shows happening each year, I wondered which boat shows were best for sailing. So many boat shows are more like regional home shows where there are more people selling non-marine products as those selling boat products and services. If you are buying a small boat for a lake or river like a bass boat or pontoon boat, then many of these regional shows are for you. But what about catamarans and sail boats? I did some research and this is what I found.

Only a select few boat shows are focused specifically on sailing and sailboats and with the capabilities of accommodating large sailboats in the water. So What are the Best Boat Shows for Sailboats?

The Best Boat Shows for Sailboats are:

  • Annapolis Sailboat Show

Miami Boat Show

Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Cannes Yachting Festival

International Multihull Boat Show

San Diego International Boat Show

United States Sailboat Show (Annapolis Fall Sailboat Show)

Annapolis is known as the sailboat capital of the world, so it is no surprise that is hosts one of the best sailboat shows in the world. There is a fall and spring show. Both shows take place in historic, downtown Annapolis, which is right on the water. The US Naval Academy is right downtown as well and together with the show provides a beautiful setting and atmosphere for a boat show. The spring show is a smaller, more regional show in April, but does have several nice sailboats and great seminars for those wanting to learn how to sail (first time sailors) or with interest in cruising full time (Cruisers University). The fall show is the granddaddy of sailboat shows and takes place in October. This is a very popular show with boaters that are in the United States and Canada for the summer months waiting for hurricane season to pass before making their way back south to warmer weather in Florida, the Bahamas, the BVI’s and the rest of the Caribbean. This show has more sailboats, first time sailing seminars (Learn to Sail) and Cruisers University Seminars. This is a must if you are a diehard sailor or just getting started.

Annapolis is a great town for sailing. Historic buildings and the United States Naval Academy combined with the harbor, excellent restaurants, beautiful architecture history, music, pubs and plenty of fellow sailors to share your tall tales with. I don’t think there is a better venue for a sailboat show. I love Annapolis and all that it has to offer.

The international city of Miami hosts a large boat show with approximately 1400 boats including many sailboat and catamaran manufacturer’s being present with several in water boat showings. Catering to sailing enthusiasts, Pier 9 is a dedicated sailing specific area. The Miami boat show takes place in February, which is a great time to escape to tropical Florida for nice weather and a huge exhibitor area and many boats to see.

Miami is an excellent city to host a boat show. Enjoy the tropical February weather, Cuban and Latin food and Latin music, Latin flair and all of the nostalgia and art deco that Miami has to offer. This is a very cool place with so many quaint restaurants, bars, culture and life.

The Fort Lauderdale Boat Show has been in existence for 60 years and boasts over 1500 boats, 1200 exhibitors and over 110,000 visitors. This is a huge show. It takes place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (just North of Miami) at the end of October and beginning of November each year.  For those sailors that attend the Annapolis Boat Show, this is a natural follow up. If you miss Annapolis, then Ft. Lauderdale is another great option. If you are sailing south down the ICW for warmer winter weather, Fort Lauderdale is a nice stop after leaving Annapolis and before leaving the United States. Fort Lauderdale is more than Where the Boys Are (old movie that some baby boomers may remember). It is another tropical, Florida location where a giant boat show takes place. Great food and lot’s to do provide entertainment after the show closes for the day. Come in October and miss the hot, humid (ok miss the hot) Florida summer while taking in so many boats and exhibits. Finally, if you book early, there are plenty of low cost flights in and out of south Florida.

The Cannes Yachting Festical (AKA Cannes Boat Show) takes place in mid-September each year in Cannes, France. This large, in-water boat show boasts 51,000 attendees and over 650 boats. It’s claim to fame is that it is one of the first shows of the boating year where manufacturers reveal new models and features with the opportunity to experience a sea trial of many boats on display. Anyone looking for a French made catamaran or sailboat, might have an interest in attending.

Cannes, France. So if you want to enjoy the French Riviera or are just located in Europe, then Cannes is a beautiful place to enjoy a boating and yachting festival. So this isn’t a sailboat only festival, but because so many sailboats are made in France, this one made the list. Cannes is well known for its International Film Festival and getting more known each year for its Yachting Festival. Great Food and ambience in addition to lot’s of boats on display make Cannes one of our top boat (and sailboat) shows.

The International Multihull Boat Show is a show exclusively for multihull sailing enthusiasts. It takes place in La Grande Motte, France every April. This show is one of the newer shows, first launched in 2010 with the simple concept of showing off multihull boats in a single, fixed venue. It features the major catamaran manufacturers, trimarans and exhibits with over 60 boats on display.

La Grande Motte is a wonderful beach type location to experience everything multi-hull. It is a newer (1960’s and 1970’s resort location in southern France. The French love to come and experience the pyramid like architecture along with tropical plants and traffic and buildings located back from the beach. This French resort town hosts a true multi-hull show. Catamarans and Trimarans keep gaining in popularity, but are still working to gain the acceptance of sailing veterans. No worries at this show as it is all things multi-hull.

San Diego is home to an awesome port, many US Naval Vessels and Naval Base and quaint city and also to a wonderful international boat show. Come one, come all sailboat enthusiasts on the West Coast of the United States. This show may be smaller than some of the other shows mentioned on this page, but with 150 boats on display, this is southern California’s premiere boat show. Did you know that Beneteau’s top North American (service) Dealer is located in Southern California. South Coast Yacht’s service is like no other and they are year in and year out a sponsor of the San Diego International Boat Show.

San Diego is a quaint, but large city based around the Bay. With its strong naval presence and influence, arts, music and food that is a cross between Mexican and American, San Diego is another great venue for a boat show and to see some of the new offerings coming this year. San Diego’s weather is almost perfect year around, but June (the month of the show) is about as good as it gets. Expect high temperatures around 80F degrees and lows in the 60F’s with lots of southern California sunshine. You can’t get much better.

Other Sailboat Shows

I know there are many other boat shows featuring sailing and sailboats. If you you have a favorite show that you like to attend, please tell us about it in the comments below. Maybe I’ll add it to the list. By the way, any boat show with sailboats, is a show worth attending.

2022 Boat of the Year: Best Performance Catamaran

  • By Cruising World Editors
  • December 15, 2021

During and in the four days immediately following the US Sailboat show in Annapolis, Maryland, the  Cruising World  judges inspected and sailed on 27 boats vying for recognition. Learn more about the boats in our  2022 Boat of the Year  »

OK, confession time. When the roster of nominees for the 2022 Boat of the Year awards was released, the contest’s team and judging panel couldn’t help themselves, and quietly put three check marks, little symbols of anticipation, alongside a trio of boats: the untamed cats that would vie for the title of best performer in their class. After all, both Balance and Seawind had entered the winner’s circle in previous BOTY competitions, and it was clear they’d have a serious contender for the throne in yet another player from cat-crazy South Africa, the Kinetic KC54. How’d it go? Let’s just say, nobody was disappointed. The conditions on Chesapeake Bay were ideal for putting the three nominees through their paces, and the trio of scalded cats all acquitted themselves superbly.

For 2022, if anything, the trend for flybridge catamarans is on a major upswing. New cats for 2022 from both Lagoon and Fountaine Pajot continued down that design path, putting an emphasis on living accommodations, not performance. But not aboard the latest Seawind 1600 , a brand originally built in Australia that is now produced in Vietnam. And that suits judge Tim Murphy just fine. “This boat was very dialed in,” he said, “and one place Seawind has always been innovative is with their helms. This one was really great; it was -outboard and aft with great visibility, sort of half-protected where you could step in and out. There was also good access to the boom and mainsail, which you don’t always see on cats. The deck layout was excellent, particularly the forward trampolines. Some cats have lacings with large openings where you can twist an ankle, but these were nice and tight.”

“Compared to other Seawinds that I’ve seen, I was just blown away with it in terms of what it could do and how it performed,” said Ed Sherman.  “It’s a fairly conservative boat in terms of technology compared to some of the other boats in the same category, which depending on a potential buyer’s state of mind, could be either a good thing or a bad one. I loved the centralized winch aft which is where all the sail-handling takes place. It’s pretty brilliant for a short-handed crew, and it’s all in a very safe and easy-to-access location that a cruising couple can deal with without scaring the heck out of themselves.”

The Kinetic KC54 is a fresh entry in the cat universe, and we’ll let Tim Murphy get right to the point: “This is a fairly new company that was started within the past couple of years. My breath was absolutely taken away by this boat; it was spectacular. I think it was the best-built boat in the entire fleet. It’s an all-carbon boat, with a foam core, epoxy resin, all infused–fantastic. The whole boat felt integrated. You didn’t feel like there was a conflict between the forces in terms of accommodation versus performance.” With a price tag approaching $3 million, it perhaps should not be astonishing. That was a major factor in evaluating the boat, and while it did not win its class, the experts panel did present it with a Judges’ Special Recognition prize to honor the boat’s overall excellence.

“It was my personal favorite in this year’s contest,” said Sherman. The materials that were used are absolutely the highest quality available in our industry at this point, and it’s a very high-tech boat in terms of systems.” Gerry Douglas was also duly impressed: “This was the Tesla of sailboats. I think that that was their model. In terms of design and execution and technology, it hit all three of those marks. This boat is built without compromise, and what it cost was not an issue, they just wanted to do the best they could in every aspect of the boat. The construction was impeccable, the fit and finish was amazing. There are some very clever design things in the boat, but it all really worked seamlessly.”

With that level of competition, the Balance 482 had a tall order to overcome to win its class. And it did. “The sailing performance was excellent,” said Douglas. “The boat felt really good. The steering was terrific. The structure of the boat throughout was exemplary. Storage is really good. Visibility was good. Ventilation was great. There was even a rain collection system on the cabin top, which is the only one of the boats we looked at had that. It was very well concealed because the gutters formed a handhold going forward. The solar panel installation was also well done. The panels were encapsulated into a fiberglass tray that elevated the deck so the panels wouldn’t overheat. Very clever.”

The driving force behind Balance cats is Phil Berman, a world champ at racing beach cats who brought that passion to developing and marketing fully found cruisers. Judge Murphy knows him well: “Phil comes from a very strong view of wanting to see boats that have solid sailing performance. He’s also a strong proponent of daggerboard boats, which tends to be quick shorthand for the dividing line between cats that are more about payload versus cats that are about performance, but not so much where you’re going to fly a hull or break a rudder. There’s a balance within a boat that really performs that you can still live aboard.” A winning balance, it turns out, with the Balance 482 securing its position as the Best Performance Cruiser for 2022.

The world's biggest boat show is nearly upon us! Here are the best new boats we're really excited about seeing at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show...

There are boat shows and then there are boat shows and the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show is definitely in the latter camp. With over 1,300 boats on display, it’s widely recognised as the biggest show on the water.

However, with such grandiose scale comes a dilemma – how on earth are you supposed to choose which boats to spend your valuable time seeking out?

Well, that’s where our expert team at MBY.com comes in. We’ve scoured the exhibitor list to pick out the most exceptional boats that are particularly worthy of your attention this year.

Read on for our pick of the best boats at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show…

fort-lauderdale-boat-show-2023-Aquila-47-molokai

Aquila 47 Molokai

The Aquila 47 Molokai power catamaran , making its debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, is the new big brother to the popular, cuddy-cabined Molokai 28.

Featuring a new, aggressive double-stepped hull design with a raised tunnel between the twin hulls to create less pounding in big seas, the 49-foot long Molokai should make light work of heavy weather. To add strength, bulkheads are made of carbon fiber, with the hardtop also made of carbon to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity.

The cat’s 14ft 7in beam should also provide plenty of deck space and solid footing for reeling in the big one, with hull doors on both sides for hauling your catch into the roomy cockpit.

azimut-magellano-60-sea-trial-review-video

Azimut Magellano 60

The style of the Azimut Magellano 60 is a world away from the radical cutaways and faceted hull angles of the Italian yard’s Fly, S and Verve lines. In place of unflinching modernity, what we have here feels far more classical and self-effacing and as the new entry point to the four-strong Magellano line, that’s exactly as it should be.

There’s a clean, pared back linearity to the external form and a modest confidence to the trim that makes this boat feel quite timeless.

The block-coloured hull and the weightlessness of the upper deck also lend this boat a much lower profile than you might expect of a 60ft  flybridge cruiser – and at the aft end of the superstructure, like impeccably debonair go-faster stripes, those elegant teak louvres have become something of a Magellano trademark.

The Benetti Osis 34m comes to FLIBS hot on the heels of its global debut at Cannes 2023

Benetti Oasis 34m

With exterior styling by British studio, RWD, and interior design by New York-based architects, Bonetti/Kozerski, the Benetti Oasis 34m follows closely in the footsteps of the Oasis 40m.

Like its big sister, it adopts a clear commitment to informal conviviality, big views and a close connection with the sea – and at the heart of that concept sits Benetti’s ‘Oasis Deck’.

It all revolves around a dramatic infinity pool, set low in the centre of the transom with a glass aft bulkhead. Sunbeds orbit the pool’s forward edge leading to a large open cockpit with drop down bulwarks – and the way that space interacts with the saloon is equally satisfying.

Chris-Craft Catalina 28

Think of it as evolution, not so much revolution. Florida-based  Chris-Craft  has taken the oh-so-successful formula for its much-loved Catalina  center console  line-up of 24, 30 and 34-foot models, and used it to pop-out a new Chris-Craft Catalina 28.

Debuting at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, this new 28fter is arguably the most-appealing size for day-boaters looking for a fun day out on the water with friends and family. We’re counting comfy seating for at least 12, and as many cupholders.

While it’s a new hull design, those Chris-Craft design cues, like the signature Carolina Flare bow, gorgeous reverse transom, and smooth-riding bottom, are all there. And with the beam now stretched to a generous 9ft 1in, there’s extra room to walk around.

fort-lauderdale-boat-show-2023-Cigarette-racing-52-thunder

Cigarette Racing 52 Thunder

The sound of thunder isn’t exactly uncommon in Florida in October. But if you’re hearing a deeper rumble around the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show docks this year, it’ll likely be coming from the latest speed machine from Miami’s Cigarette Racing.

The brand new Cigarette Racing 52 Thunder Center Console packs a 3,000 supercharged horsepower gut-punch, courtesy of six brand new Mercury Racing 500R  V10 outboards  hanging off the back. Flat out Cigarette says it’s good for over 80 knots, or 92mph.

This new 52-footer neatly slots into the Cigarette line-up between the 42-foot Auroris and flagship 52 Tirranna. But in addition to simply going fast, the focus here is on entertaining friends and family out on the water.

Fairline-Phantom-65-test-drive-review-video

Fairline Phantom 65

The new Fairline Phantom 65 nestles somewhere between the  Fairline Squadron 68 and the Fairline Targa 65 GTO .

It’s 4ft shorter and five tonnes lighter than the Squadron 68 yet somehow manages to pack in exactly the same three- or four-cabin layout below decks as well as a crew cabin and tender garage .

On the face of it, the Phantom seems to offer a bit more of everything than the Targa while still looking considerably sportier and more manageable than the Squadron.

numarine-37xp-yacht-tour-video

Numarine 37XP

This is the 37m version of the  Numarine  explorer range, built from a steel hull and GRP superstructure, and it is designed for long-range cruising with an enormous amount of volume and in a great deal of comfort.

Its  full displacement hull  is powered by a pair of 800hp engines for a top speed of 12 knots, but dial that back to 8 knots and you’re looking at a maximum cruising range of around 6,000nm, thanks to a 52-tonne fuel capacity.

The first thing you notice when you step on board the Numarine 37XP is the beach club, which is accessed via the folding transom that folds down to reveal a sea level terrace shaded by a canopy and boasting a bar,  water toys  and much more besides.

Princess-Y95-yacht-tour-video

The Princess Y95 will be making its US show debut at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Princess Y95

When  Princess Yachts  launched the tri-deck  Princess X95  back in 2020, it always planned to offer a more conventional open flybridge version too. The fact that it has taken Princess two years to get round to it is actually good news.

Concerns that the X95’s bold new looks might prove too much for some to swallow have shown to be largely unfounded. As a result, the yard has been so busy churning out X95s (18 built with a further eight on order) that the Princess Y95 got temporarily shifted onto the back burner.

Now it has finally arrived, we can’t see the workers on the Y95 production line getting much downtime either! Featuring a full-length open flybridge with an enclosed bridge deck a few steps forward and down from it, the new Y-model has a sleeker, more conventional profile than the X95.

It loses out on that boat’s spectacular skylounge and the “country kitchen” option of an open-plan main deck with a big galley/dining area under the windscreen but the rest of the interior matches it blow for blow and the upshot is even more outside entertaining space to revel in.

Riva 76 Perseo Super

How time flies. It’s eight years since we tested the original Riva 76 Perseo at the  Cannes Yachting Festival , a sleek and stupendously competent piece of luxury engineering that gave us a terrific high-speed run in one-metre seas, like a thoroughbred racehorse out for a gallop.

It didn’t break a sweat. And the fit and finish were everything you would hope for in a  Riva  – tasteful, opulent, and beautifully executed. In fact there was something so marvellous about it that we gave it a  Motor Boat Award . Unimprovable is the word that springs to mind.

Nevertheless, improvements are claimed for this new Riva 76 Perseo Super version. Various interior décor schemes are offered, which change the look quite markedly: light or dark lacquered oak panelling, for example, or lustrous rosewood if you prefer.

Riviera 585 SUV

America’s passionate love affair with big, honking SUVs should bode well for the new Riviera 585 SUV, the latest addition to Aussie-based  Riviera Yachts ‘ five-model “Sport Utility Vessel” line-up.

The badge is a bit confusing in that bow-to-stern, this sleek-looking  hardtop coupe  measures in at 65 feet. Add to that the SUV’s 18ft 7in beam and it means a whole lot of space inside and out.

Take the dual-level cockpit at the back. At swim platform level, there’s a huge, teak-floored deck with barbecue grille, sink and ice-maker. Three steps up takes you into what’s arguably the 585’s best feature; it’s cosy, well-protected upper cockpit.

sirena-78-sea-trial-review-boat-test-video

Prior to 2017, very few people outside the industry had even heard of Sirena Yachts , which until that point had largely stayed in the shadows, building boats for other brands. But then it launched its own range of motor boats and in the five short years since then, it has grown to become a serious player in its own right.

Its latest model, the all-new Sirena 78, takes things to another level – literally. Thanks to a top deck that can be left open, semi-enclosed or fully enclosed, it is effectively available as a tri-deck yacht, a conventional two-deck flybridge boat with a hard top or something in between.

Once you’ve settled on which of these variants you want, you then get to decide between multiple interior layout options and three different design themes.

The Sunreef 80 Power Eco comes bristling with solar panels

Sunreef 80 Power Eco

If you like the idea of free, renewable energy but don’t like sails, Sunreef would love to have a word. The Polish shipyard’s newest power cat is this Sunreef 80 Power Eco, available in both hybrid and pure electric versions, that positively bristles with solar panels.

These produce a claimed maximum of 36kWp in bright sunshine, although with many of the  solar panels  mounted along the sides, that figure will only be achievable if the sun can be persuaded to shine on both sides at the same time.

So it might occasionally be necessary to top up the batteries using the generators. The batteries themselves are ‘ultralight’, with an energy density of around 200Wh per kilogramme, and you can choose between 360kW and 720kW of motive power.

sunseeker-ocean-182-fort-lauderdale-boat-show-2023

Sunseeker Ocean 182

Originally built as an open flybridge boat with a hardtop to provide shade, the new Sunseeker Ocean 182 will have a fully covered area at the forward end of the upper deck.

This brings two major benefits: first, the bridge station moves upstairs, freeing up more socialising space on the main deck, and second, the enclosed part of the top deck can be climate controlled for use in hot and cold countries.

Prospective owners can choose if the newly covered area is left open at the back with just a security hatch over the internal stairs or closed off with sliding glass doors where the roof line ends.

Tiara 48 LE

Tiara calls it a “power-actuated rotating lounge module”. You might think of it as a new spin on cockpit design. Literally. At the tap of a button, the big-and-comfy cockpit sofa can rotate a full 180 degrees.

Spin the sofa 90 degrees either side, or the full 180, and you get a terrific, unobstructed view of the kids splashing in the water. Or the sunset. Or that ooh-and-ahhh firework show. And it can lock it in place at any angle you want.

Rotate it 90 degrees to port, power down the large terrace-cum-swim platform and water views don’t get much better. And the spinning sofa comes with a lovely varnished table attached, so your sunset cocktail goes with you.

Vanquish VQ55 Sports Line

Be still our beating hearts. The 2023 Fort Lauderale Boat Show will see the official unwrapping of the newest addition to the Dutch Vanquish line-up, the brand new Vanquish VQ55 Sports Line. Two stats you’ll like: 3,000 horsepower from its five  Mercury Verado 600hp V12 outboards , and a literally eye-watering 70-knot top speed.

This is the big brother to the GRP-hulled VQ40 Sports Line featuring a  center console  design by the former Citroen car designer Guido de Groot. With seats for 18 of your closest friends, it’s aimed squarely at the Miami-slash-St.Trop-slash-Ibiza sun-worshipping crowd.

And like the VQ40, its hull is molded in GRP rather than the more typical aluminum used in pretty much all other  Vanquish  models.

Viking 90 Open Bridge

You could hardly call it a downsizing. But New Jersey-based  Viking Yachts  – acknowledged builder of the Rolls-Royce of offshore  fishing boats  – is replacing its flagship Viking 92 with a Viking 90. Not that it was by choice. Since the 92’s introduction in 2015, Viking has built 21 of them, at around $12 million apiece, and wanted to continue.

But tough new emission regs mandated by the International Maritime Organization, would have meant that any new Viking 92 had to be fitted with complex exhaust treatment technology, called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR).

That, according to Viking, would have added weight, reduced performance, made engine room maintenance a nightmare, and sent the yacht’s price tag soaring. So it dropped the 92 and developed a brand new Viking 90.

Wally WHY150

Created in collaboration with Studio Vallicelli, the new Wally WHY150 uses a raised pilothouse design to create what it calls “unparalleled exterior spaces” – but that approach also has a very striking impact on the inside.

In the main deck saloon, floor-to-ceiling glass is paired with flush decking and more than 8ft of headroom to create a profound sense of openness and light.

The absence of a lower helm also frees up the space for a main deck  owner’s cabin , which takes full advantage of the Wally WHY150’s elevated bow and wraparound glazing for 270-degree views from the bed.

A Beginner's Guide to Boat Shows

best catamaran boat show

Being new to the marine industry, I had no idea what to expect when attending my first yacht show. My coworkers could never seem to give me a direct explanation of what it was like or what it entailed. It was a "see for yourself" experience. Lots of hard work went into preparing for my first boat show, but I was yet to see what thrills the week had in store for me. I decided to jot down some of my main takeaways from this exciting new adventure as a keepsake to me and a guide to future attendees!

Starting my week at the Miami Boat Show was no walk in the park. Every time I turned around there was something new to learn. Whether I was running errands or prepping boats, there's some tips I wish I had known from the very beginning. For example, shoes are a BIG deal. My first thought was to wear comfy sneakers that supported my feet while I pranced around a dock all day, but that is not the correct shoe of choice! Although boat shows are typically large and involve lots (and lots) of walking, easily removable shoes are convenient if you want to tour the magnificent yachts vendors have displayed. Many vendors also require appointments in order to take a walk-through on their boats, so make sure you've done your research.

Location is another huge obstacle when it comes to boat shows. A map is your best friend. I learned the hard way that not only are boat shows a lot of walking, but hard to navigate because of the crazy amount of boats in one place. At the Miami International Boat Show, Leopard Catamarans was at the end of pier nine. This meant that we were the farthest space on the dock and the farthest dock from the entrance. Lucky me! It definitely took me a few laps before I knew exactly how to get where I was going.

I realized early on that if I wanted to tour any other boat that was not a Leopard Catamaran, giving out my email address was something I had to accept. Most vendors displaying yachts take your name and email address before you can climb aboard their yachts. A little inconvenient time wise, but totally worth being in on the excitement!

Not only are their early mornings when working a boat show, but many late nights as well. However, these were the kind of nights so exciting you wish they could last longer! This past year, I got to experience the Leopard Party hosted by Leopard Catamarans. This was a VIP event for Leopard owners and those interested in purchasing. Planning the event was a lot of hard work, but it was so worth seeing the turn out in the end! From photo booths, to catering, to drinks and mingling, I got to meet some great people and treat myself to some well deserved fun! If you have the opportunity to attend a party at a boat show-- take advantage!

Be Flexible

Boat shows only last about a week, so it's no surprise how packed they are on a daily basis. Week days are a bit less crowded, but when Saturday and Sunday roll around, the crowds can get massive! There is only enough space on the docks for a certain amount of people, so be prepared to wait in long lines for food, boats, drinks, etc. As long as you go in with an open mind and an open schedule, a weekend at a boat show is worth while.

myblog1

There are two types of people: those who are serious about buying a yacht in the near future,  and those  browsing to figure out what it is they  want in a yacht. Neither group is better or worse than the other, however, if you are seriously looking to make a purchase, there are some things to keep in mind. VIP day is the best option for those who really want details on a specific boat and need to sit down with an experienced agent. This is the time to learn everything you can about the boat and make sure it's the perfect fit for you. Beating the crowds is also ideal, that way you don't miss the great deals on boats before they sell out by the end of the week. All fun aside, making a good buyer decision is worth a few hours of seriousness to find your dream boat.

blog

Lastly, finding a great deal and a perfect boat take some research before hand. Study up on what products each vendor will have available to tour, that way you'll know exactly when and where your desired boat will be located. It is also important to reach out to Sales Agents for each brand you are interested in to see if you can find out what the boat show specials might be. Sometimes you can even get better deals BEFORE the show starts. This won't always be the case, but better to be safe than sorry! Why not score a great deal on your dream boat?

A week at a boat show had it's high and lows (mostly highs) and I'm grateful to have had such a good first experience! I firmly believe that attending a boat show is mandatory for everyone AT LEAST once. I hope these tips created a clearer picture and this inspires the next person to get out there and "see for yourself."

Annapolis Boat Show Wrap Up: Our Top Favorite Catamarans!

We want to thank everyone that took the time to visit us at the Annapolis boat show. The excitement and interest in catamarans reached unprecedented levels and it’s clear that the future is bright for every manufacturer. The industry is seeing phenomenal growth as more and more people decide to set sail. Exhibitors seemed excited to be back and optimistic about the future and boat manufacturers are setting 2023 delivery dates for the boats being bought this year. Also in attendance during the show were the owners of the boats in our various programs over the years who joined us on the docks for a great few days of fun. It was fantastic to see so many owners together in one place. The attendance at the show was at record highs and with restrictions in the Caribbean loosing up, the “vacation basin,” housing the charter companies were booking trip after trip. The demand far exceeds the supply of charter boats and captains which is great news for our charter boat owners!

We owe a special thanks to the Klaczynski and Whittington families, who graciously shared their beautiful new Bali 4.6 and Bali 4.8 with hundreds of visitors at the show. Boat shows provide a great opportunity to compare the different features of the various brands and this show had a full complement of most catamaran models for every manufacturer in the cruising class as well as the performance categories. Several catamaran manufacturers debuted new models at the show and, even though we were besieged by everyone trying to get a personal tour and consultation at the Bali display, we had the opportunity to tour some of the other brands as well.

Favorite New Catamarans For Sale!

The catamarans that most impressed us were the Bali Catspace 40, Kinetic KC54 and Seawind 1600, each for a different reason.

The Bali Catspace 40 debuted in the US for the first time and proved to be a winner with the crowds. It by far has the best use of space for the size of catamaran and is well priced at around $570,000 all in. Aft, the large tilting “garage” door allows you to combine the cockpit, saloon and galley area into a single vast living space. The flybridge lounge aft of the boat’s single wheel is enormous and comfortable for 6-8 people, while the forward deck is yet another expansive lounging and dining area. This boat had more interest than most catamarans in this size range. While not a rocket ship, the Catspace performs on par with most 40ft cruising cats and none of the competition in this size range offer so much habitable volume. LOA  40ft5in  BEAM  21ft7in  DRAFT  3ft7in  DISPLACEMENT  20,600lb

We spent quite a bit of time at the Bali models, and we think that the Bali range of catamarans has really come into its own at this show with a full size range from 40, 4.2, 4.4, 4.6, 4.8 to 5.4, all with the tilting door at the back and the opening front door onto the solid foredeck. Bali’s quality has also improved year over year and is now the second biggest catamaran manufacturer in the world after Lagoon catamarans.

The Kinetic KC54 got our attention because it is high tech yet simple to operate for a couple. It is a new carbon fiber cruiser-racer, semi-custom brand out of Knysna, South Africa, with some very innovative features. The KC54’s deck layout is simple and all controls and halyards are led to the sailing nerve center of the boat, the forward cockpit. Just one step away is the primary helm station at the front of the saloon, where the helmsman has all instruments close at hand, push-button control of the sails and a big moonroof to monitor sail trim. Unlike the competition, their mainsheet traveller is on the coachroof rather than the aft crossbeam. ‘We deem it much safer to keep the aft cockpit clear of highly loaded, sweeping lines,’ designer Voogd says. The mainsheet is hydraulic and its traveller is controlled by an Antal line driver.  ‘It’s a feature we devised to clean up the forward cockpit and make the boat easier to sail shorthanded,’ Scheepers explains. This cat is full of very clever and well thought out features like these which makes it very attractive for adventure seekers who doesn’t want a full crew. LOA  40ft 5in  BEAM  21ft 7in  DRAFT  3ft 7in  DISPLACEMENT  20,600lb  SAIL AREA.

The Seawind 1600 impressed with its very clever captive daggerboards, which are recessed into the deck. Another unusual feature is the boat’s retractable rudders, which make the boat beachable. With boards and rudders up, the Seawind 1600 draws just over 2ft. Seawind has managed to find the perfect way to create a pair of sheltered, yet still well outboard helm stations with the placement of its twin wheels. Both positions are elevated to provide good visibility, while still benefiting from the protection of the boat’s hardtop. It is a simple boat to sail and handle as a couple. LOA  51ft 8in, LWL  51ft 6in, Beam  25ft 10in, Draft  2ft 1in; 8ft 6in max draft, Displacement 28,000lbs

Of course, one can never beat the elegance of the Lagoon Catamaran brand and their Lagoon Sixty5 is a majestic and luxurious catamaran, the latest impressive offering from the biggest catamaran manufacturer in the world. LOA  67ft5in  BEAM  33ft  DRAFT  5ft1in  DISPLACEMENT  88,200lb

Our choices for best couples’ boats at the show are split in two categories: 38ft to 44ft and 45ft+ catamarans .

The Bali Catspace 40, Leopard 42 (elevated lounge area) and Bali 4.2 are the front runners. These three cats are well laid out with good performance in the cruising class and have innovative ideas like the forward opening door to a forward cockpit. The Bali 4.6, Leopard 45 and Fountaine Pajot Saona (Tanna) 47 owners’ versions seems to be a sweet spot for most cruisers, and they are all great options but the trend is for couples to go even bigger. The Bali 4.8, Leopard 50 and Lagoon 50 have seen a surge in sales to couples and are all great contenders. These cats are all a great compromise between livability (interior volume) and performance.

The average cruiser will do great sailing and cruising on any of these models without having to give up on creature comforts. The one advantage that the Bali catamaran range has is that the bridgedeck clearance  is high to minimize interference between the hulls and it has a lot of reserve buoyancy because of the unique construction , so even when the cat is loaded (which they tend to be for cruising), it still has good performance. This is not typical for most catamarans and production cats often tend to underperform and bridgedeck slamming is exaggerated because of excessive weight. Not so for this brand.

If you have a higher budget, have a bit more experience and are into performance boats, Balance catamarans (South Africa) and HH catamarans (China) will fit the bill. Both these lines have some great features and sail in a whisper of a breeze. The Balance tends to be a more simple and basic boat with some interesting features like the dual helm positions. It is light, extremely responsive and is very lively at sea. The HH is a fast, carefully engineered boat with extensive mechanization and computerization of its complex systems.

While two different philosophies for each brand, the daggerboards, a pair of narrow hulls and a powerful rig ensure excellent performance but like a delivery skipper on a Balance once said, “while it is exciting as hell to sail, you have to pay careful attention at all times or things can get scary!” So, yes, unless you sail the boat very conservatively, you will need some expertise and a thicker wallet to sail one of these guys. The other performance brand of course is Outremer. Their boats are still popular thanks to the La Vagabonde Youtube channel but personally we find them just too small inside. They are fairly basic boats but is priced a lot more reasonably for this category of catamarans.

Our next round of boat shows kicks off in Fort Lauderdale in January and Miami in February, so be sure to join us! We’re already looking forward to next year when we’ll welcome all our newcomers! Drop us a line for more information or to schedule a time to sit with us and talk about your future sailing plans.

The new Four Winns TH36 is the first outboard-powered catamaran introduced by the builder. The dual console design has a walkthrough windshield and room for 15 or more guests. Power is provided by twin 300-hp outboards upgradeable to 350s, making this runabout speedy and fun.

Leopard 40 PC

Joining her 46- and 53-foot siblings, the new Leopard 40 PC is a couple’s cruiser with many of the same features as the two larger models but on a much smaller (and for some, more approachable) platform. Engine packages range from 250 hp to 370 hp, and a top speed of 20 knots is expected.

Aquila 42 PC

Aquila 42 PC

The new HammerCat 45 is versatile and can work as a sportfish platform, a dive boat, a day cruiser, or a superyacht tender. This center console has a hardtop and a Carolina bow and is built in epoxy and carbon fiber to keep weight down and performance up. Expect a 55- knot top end and a 30-knot cruise depending on the engine package selected.

This French-built sailing cruiser has space in spades. The new FP Tanna 47 is based on (and shares a hull design with) her predecessor, the Saona 47, but clever tweaks have made this a whole new boat. The cabin house and deck have been revamped, the flybridge is 40% larger, the salon/ galley has gained storage options, and the helm is more ergonomic than before.

Bali 4.4

Bali has captured the hearts of sailors who love lots of living space, large household-style appliances, and simplicity. Bali cats are unique for their combination salon/ cockpit layout, and the 4.4 joins her siblings in this groundbreaking design. With the touch of a button, a “garage door” lifts, connecting the indoors with the outdoors with minimum redundancy in living arrangements.

balance 442

Fast and packed with proven cruising features, the Balance 442 is the little sister to last year’s 482. Perfectly sized for couples, this boat was designed for distance cruisers by distance cruisers. There’s even an option for a large solar array to make living at anchor easy and just about carbon neutral.

Lagoon 55

French catamaran builder, Lagoon, has introduced a new VPLP-designed cruising cat that you can test in charter soon. The Lagoon 55 slots just above the newly introduced 51and are offered as a large and comfortable flybridge model with up to six cabins to accommodate an overnight crowd.

Minicat 310

An affordable multihull can be had in Europe’s Minicat 310 Sport, an inflatable beach cat weighing only 77 pounds and packing down into a single bag. This cat has sophisticated big boat features like roller furling, a fully battened mainsail, keels, and an attachment for a small outboard.

12 Best Catamaran Sailboats

Best Catamaran Sailboats | Life of Sailing

Last Updated by

Daniel Wade

December 28, 2023

The appeal of the catamaran sailboats in terms of speed , stability, and the ability to embark on long-range cruising has made them hugely popular with today's sailors. But what are the best catamaran sailboats?

Even though catamaran sailboats have become increasingly popular in the last few years, they have a truly rich legacy as one of the most sought after vessels for bluewater cruising.

Thanks to their incredibly wide beams and bigger daft, catamarans have become remarkably favorable for sailors looking to go for long-distance voyages, overnight cruising, and day sailing.

And if space is paramount for you when out there on the water, a catamaran sailboat is the only way to go as they offer extraordinary space to allow you to spend more time on the water with friends and family.

But even with all these amazing features, you're probably still wondering; what are the best catamaran sailboats?

Like their monohull counterparts, choosing the best catamaran sailboat can be quite overwhelming since there are lots of them out there. They come in a wide variety of designs and sizes ranging from small catamarans to huge ones.

The best catamaran sailboats can easily clock 250-mile voyages, offer incredible performance, and have layouts that can be easily optimized for individuals, charter markets, and great accommodation. In essence, the best catamaran sailboats offer respectable performance and offer good load-carrying ability.

That being said, here are some of the best catamaran sailboats that you can get your hands on.

Best Catamarans

{{boat-info="/boats/manta-42"}}

Even though many multihulls are no longer built in the United States these days, the Manta 42 is a true American-built catamaran that brings good living and good value into one package. Designed cleverly for easy handling, this American built catamaran is a great choice for a liveaboard cruiser for sailors looking to go for long-distance voyages. Thanks to its trademark high bows and an enormously curved incorporated forward crossbeam, this catamaran is easily recognizable even from a distance.

It is designed with a uniquely fixed crossbeam, which is very different from conventional aluminum cross beams that support the tension of the forestay. This fixed crossbeam allows for a little bit of movement thereby helping in absorbing enormous twisting forces of the bows. As such, you have to keep in mind that there may be resultant stress crack particularly in the bow area of the vessel.

All in all, the Manta 42 is a superb offshore cruising catamaran that offers a good sail-area-to-displacement ratio as well as plenty of space and accommodation. The cockpit area is refined, luxurious, and is designed with additional stainless pushpit contraptions to help in holding objects such as wind vanes, dinghies, and solar panels. The boat's quality in terms of performance and stability is the benchmark of what a catamaran should be.

Fountaine Pajot Elba 45

{{boat-info="/boats/fountaine-pajot-elba-45"}}

Recently named the "Boat of the Year" for 2019 by Cruising World Magazine and Sail Magazine, the Elba 45 is the latest model in the incredible line of Fountaine Pajot catamarans. This boat was designed to replace the outgoing Helia 44 and stands to be one of the most popular catamarans with Fountain Pajot having sold over 100 Elba 45 hulls long before even the first one emerged from production.

This French-built cat brings to the fore a well-thought-out, safe, and dependable features with 10% less drag, efficient motoring, top-notch performance, and high speeds. It's also designed with fixed stub keels and slightly aft-raked bows, which are all essential in enhancing windward performance; something that most catamarans struggle with.

To improve on safety, the keels of this amazing catamaran sailboat are glued into a particularly designed recess in the hulls. This is to ensure that there are no keel bolts that can rip out and put the boat in danger if the boat gets grounded or in the event of a collision. The rig is also ICW friendly and is a true representation of a standard catamaran setup.

This is, without a doubt, a modern-looking cruising catamaran that has a low-profile lounging space on its deck, high topsides and bows as well as a more pronounced reverse sheer that's essential in minimizing the bulk of the windows while creating additional and useful volume below. This is a true catamaran that occupies a sweet spot for those looking to sail along the bay or for those adventurous sailors looking to set sail for more ambitious offshore cruising plans.

{{boat-info="/boats/leopard-48"}}

With its fine design, straightforward systems, and easy handling, the Leopard 48 has everything it needs to be ranked among the distinguished category of the best catamaran sailboats. This is an excellent multihull that is structured with advanced materials, designs, and innovations that are meant to be fun, spacious, and comfortable.

Designed in South Africa by Simonis-Voogd, is probably the best design in the Leopard family of catamarans. Its two hulls are vacuum-bagged using balsa core to offer maximum firmness while ensuring that the weight is on the minimum. This is done by articulately regulating the level of resin in the layup. With such types of hull shapes, this catamaran sailboat is very fast and can consistently clock 12 knots of speed against the currents.

The boat is also designed with shallow keels as they're filled with closed-cell polyurethane foam that's of great importance in increasing buoyancy and preventing water ingress. To enhance the safety of the vessel, the stern and bow both have bulkheads that are essential in keeping out that water if the sailboat is involved in a collision.

The hulls of this boat are deep and narrow, particularly below the waterline. They also curve higher up to practically reduce the wetted surface area while offering enough deck space and plenty of room for accommodations. Its cockpit is another excellent feature thanks to its lavish spaces that give you the chance of kicking back and relaxing.

This boat is designed to offer superior livability, quick and easy to handle features, as well as enough space for friends and family. It is designed with beautiful lines and immense practicality for those who want to go on long cruising voyages.

Antares 44i

While many people often believe that voluminous cruising catamarans should be used as charter boats, the Antares 44i brings a very different perspective altogether. Designed in Argentina as a complete bluewater catamaran, this is a boat that's specifically built for private boat owners looking for a sturdy and well-equipped bluewater cruiser. This is an absolutely gorgeous catamaran that has a fully-equipped cockpit just to ensure that you can safely operate it even when shorthanded.

Like most catamarans, the Antares 44i is designed with features that allow for long-distance voyages. It comes with a minimum bridge deck clearance of 30 inches, which is essential in mitigating bridge deck slap. The helm station is designed to offer excellent visibility over the coach roof without having to perch the helmsman high above the cockpit.

If you're planning to make those long-distance cruising to exotic places, you'll appreciate this boat's layout. The galley is put down in the port hull so that it doesn't compromise the size of the galley and the saloon. The forward-facing navigation station is up there with the best and is up to offshore standards. And that's not all; the Antares 44i comes with good mounting points for electronics, a large table, comfortable seats, and provides brilliant visibility outside.

This boat is perfectly suited for extended offshore cruising and is a great reminder for anyone who thinks that all catamarans are charter boats and all offshore boats are monohulls.

{{boat-info="/boats/dolphin-ocema-42"}}

Designed by Philipe Pouvreau in northern Brazil, the Dolphin Ocema 42 is a truly unique catamaran sailboat that goes against the conventional norm of catamarans. It is equipped with daggerboards, which are essential in enabling it to point higher on the wind while reducing the wetted surface when running or anchoring in shallow surfaces. This, however, requires a higher level of expertise in sailing. This is because lifting the daggerboards higher up will expose the rudders while the daggerboards can also interfere with the hulls in the event that the vessel runs aground.

But even with that, the Dolphin 42 balances incredible performance and cruising comfort in a very compact package; something that is not very easy in bluewater cruising. That's why it's designed using a foam core to make it lightweight by reducing weight wherever possible. This vessel will most likely never let you down if you want to circumnavigate the bluewater on a high-performance boat that is safe and comfortable.

So if you've been looking for a real sailing catamaran that doubles up as a very comfortable liveaboard sailboat , look no further than the Dolphin 42.

{{boat-info="/boats/catana-50"}}

Regarded as the best built and most stylish cruising multihull, the Catana 50 is a very huge catamaran sailboat. Measuring about 50 feet long with a beam of about 26 feet, this is an amazing catamaran that will test your sailing skills as a single sailor or if you're planning to sail shorthanded.

This boat is designed with a rig that gives you the option of using either a screecher or a self-tending jib. This may seem complex since the sheets are led to winches near each wheel while all other controls lead to a centerline winch that's located in the cockpit. But even with that, this sailboat can be easily tacked once on the course.

This is a real performance-oriented catamaran with efficient hulls and rigs allowing for top speed. This vessel is also designed with a long waterline and a subtle underwater shape at the bow to help in increasing volume while minimizing wave drag. The stern platforms can help in stretching the waterline length while also providing easy access from a dock or a dinghy. The board trunks are also very strong and sturdy to protect the integrity of the hulls if a collision occurs.

In essence, this is a very modern catamaran that's designed to safely make long-distance passages with ease. It is subdued in terms of styling but this doesn't mean that it falls short as far as performance is concerned.

Atlantic 42

{{boat-info="/boats/atlantic-42"}}

Designed in 1993, the A42 has cultivated a legion of fiercely loyal fans thanks to its efficiency and aesthetic. This is the smallest of the Atlantic cruising catamaran line and is hugely popular with sailors thanks to its ease of handling, ocean-going capabilities, and superb use of space. From the forward cockpit, pilothouse to the sleeping cabins, and brilliant galleys everything about this cat is a true classic.

Unlike most catamarans, the Atlantic 42 is designed with a waist-high cockpit that's located forward of the pilothouse just behind the mast. It brings forth a solid construction thanks to the large metal girder-like bearers that run across the bulkheads. This helps the vessel in having the utmost strength, better air circulation under the engine, and a high level of flexibility as far as the size of the engine and its positioning is concerned.

Initially, the boat's style and its outlook were considered conservative but it soon became clear that it is built of high-quality materials and to last. The internal construction of the boat is impressive, to say the least. The exterior looks very beautiful and perhaps much more beautiful than most boats today. Its large aft cabin accommodation is a top drawer while the space separating en suite heads and shower compartments are considered a bonus.

{{boat-info="/boats/fountaine-pajot-bahia-46"}}

If you were to board the French-built Fountaine Pajot Bahia 46, you'll agree that the high-quality of workmanship, layout, and efficient use of space is quite exciting, to say the least. This cat remains very popular among sailors thanks to its easy handling features and incredible performance under the sails. Well, this may not come as a surprise to many of us given that the Fountain Pajot is known for building some of the most remarkable cruising catamarans out there that it can be quite overwhelming to narrow down to a single vessel, but the Bahia 46 simply stands out.

This vessel is designed with hulls that are broader than those of many other catamarans. It's also designed with centerboards and daggerboards that are meant to enhance its performance. These are essential in minimizing draft while ensuring reliability, generous bilge, and in helping to protect the rudders and propellers.

This boat is big enough to manage any type of serious offshore sailing. This is one of the best cruising catamarans for anyone looking for the right vessel for long-distance sailing. This vessel has a very more generous rig than most cruising catamarans, which is essential in enhancing its performance. The six-post Bimini is very strong and clean and can perfectly hold dinghies.

In terms of its look, the Bahia 36 is designed with gorgeous lines with the deck and hulls sculpted with lines that add a touch of elegance to the overall look of an already excellent catamaran sailboat.

Gemini 105MC

{{boat-info="/boats/gemini-105mc"}}

Whether you're looking for a comfortable catamaran vessel to take you for a weekend sailing trip or a long sabbatical vacation on the oceans, the Gemini 105MC is a very satisfactory liveaboard catamaran vessel that offers spacious accommodation, thoughtful design, and a stable cruising platform for anyone who wants to have some good time on the water.

Designed by the legendary Tony Smith, this is somewhat a sailing cottage. Like a land cottage, it is cozy, comfortable, and very safe. This is essentially a 35 feet catamaran that offers great value for any sailing looking for a reasonably-priced catamaran sailboat for the weekend or holiday cruising.

This boat is designed with incredibly slim hulls, which are teardrop-shaped with flat bottoms and smaller wetted surface area. This is to ensure that drag is minimized and to lead to more leeway under sail. Each of the boat's hull is designed with a kick-up centerboard is of great importance in enhancing the vessel's windward pointing capability. This boat also has its rudders raised to enable it to seamlessly cruise in shallow waters where most vessels would otherwise run aground.

The eccentric narrow beam, which measures about 40% of the boat's length, is very different from today's 50%. However, its low center helps in keeping its stable, upright, and of course, safe.

Lagoon 450 F

{{boat-info="/boats/lagoon-450-f"}}

If you're looking for a catamaran sailboat that offers prestige at its peak, look no further than the Lagoon 450. This cat is widely known for offering an all-around comfort without compromising its beauty, spaciousness, class, and elegance. This is an elaborate French catamaran that brings to the table fantastic craftsmanship while leaving nothing to chance.

This is a very safe 45 feet catamaran that's not just comfortable but also very luxurious. The deck layout is centered on an amazing flybridge, which has been redesigned and redefined to offer both the traditional and modern outlook. You can very easily access the bridge, engine controls, steering station in a matter of seconds. As a result, this boat is efficiently designed to give you the ultimate control of almost every situation while on the water.

The spacious and luxurious interior of this boat is worth experiencing. The cabins and saloons are perfectly lit. We're talking about four to six cabins, eight to twelve berths, and up to four bathrooms. In essence, this boat can comfortably sleep eight to twelve people. This boat is designed to offer ultra-modern accommodations and amenities that come with little but amazing touches; all designed to make your life inside the catamaran enjoyable.

{{boat-info="/boats/gunboat-62"}}

An original performance catamaran cruiser from the iconic Gunboat manufacturer, the Gunboat 62 has truly cemented its place as one of the best catamaran sailboats to ever grace the oceans. Honestly speaking, this cat-inspired a whole range of other incredible boats including HH66 Catamaran and the Balance 526.

This is a boat that can perform admirably well in storms with a speed of over 35 knots despite being built using epoxy and E-glass with carbon-fiber structural components. It's designed with a distinct angular outline than most catamaran sailboats of its size and category. This is a vessel that was built for people looking to add more stuff and more gear for their voyages. In other words, you can have all the gear and equipment on this boat and still outperform a racing monohull of the same size.

Thanks to its lightweight feature, this vessel can sail upwind at speeds of over 17 knots and pinch up to 30 degrees. Just for comparison, the Gunboat 62 can tack through 95 degrees and still outperform the best racing monohulls. This boat is designed with a comfortable helm seat that offers 360-degree visibility as well as plenty of storage space, a functional working surface, and a luxurious cabin. Like many performance catamarans, the Gunboat 62 can attain about 20 knots if the conditions are right.

Privilege 615

{{boat-info="/boats/privilege-615"}}

Combining elegance, comfort, and style, the Privilege 615 is a lovely catamaran sailboat that seems to be always ready for a long offshore voyage. The roots of this incredible cat can be traced back to the 1980s when Philippe Jeantot opened up a boat-building company in France. As one of the best productions from the company, the privilege 615 sports a flybridge that comes complete with twin wheels, a sprawling sunbed, and other excellent features that will make your bluewater cruising a breeze.

Whether you want the charter version or a privately-owned version, the Privilege 615 is one of the most versatile catamaran sailboats. Step inside this vessel and you'll instantly notice the quality of the wood finish and the elegance of design. The advanced navigation station is not only ultra-modern but is perfectly stationed at a dedicated corner where you can control everything while still having a conversation with your friends and family.

This boat comes with multiple sleeping configurations to ensure that you and your guests can live aboard the boat for months on end. Although the boat appears like some sort of maze on the inside, you'll easily get used to it when you enter the forward section. That's not all; this boat has gorgeous lines that make the exterior beautiful just like the interior. Its sleek profile, incredible volume, and versatile interior make it one of the best catamaran sailboats out there.

There you have it; these are the best catamaran sailboats out there. It doesn't matter the one you choose, these cats will make your day out on the water and will serve you just right for your offshore voyages or for day sailing along the bays.
