VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

Garry Lu

From his current position as CEO of Station Casinos to how he – alongside brother Lorenzo and childhood friend Dana White – transformed the UFC into a multi-billion-dollar promotion , there’s virtually endless information about how Frank Fertitta III made his fortune. How he chooses to spend said fortune, however, is a little more mysterious (at least for the fun stuff). One such indulgence we know the elder Fertitta brother has treated himself to is the ultra-luxurious Feadship-built superyacht known as Viva, which comes with an eye-watering price tag of US$175 million / AU$252 million.

Conceptualised by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with De Voogt Naval Architects, while also showcasing interiors accomplished by Peter Marino, Viva was only completed in the Netherlands last year and delivered shortly thereafter.

Back to the matter of Viva, it boasts an overall length of 308 feet / 94 metres with a 13.6-metre beam and gross tonnage of 2,999 – making it the 85th largest superyacht in the entire world; seventh largest ever constructed by Feadship – and can comfortably accommodate 14 guests across seven cabins alongside a capable crew of 18.

Viva has been called the “most environmentally-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” due to it featuring a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to cruise using diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems.

The annual running cost of this enviable billionaire’s toy? Over US$17.5 million / AU$25 million.

Viva was last sighted en route to Martha’s Vineyard by way of Nantucket — but you can check it out for yourself via the Superyacht Times’ video below.

The owner of VIVA set the target of keeping the environmental impact of this ground-breaking eco-friendly 94-metre pure custom Feadship at around the same levels as his previous Feadship, despite that being 32 metres shorter in length. One of the ways in which this highly ambitious goal was approached, has been to install an exceptionally advanced hybrid propulsion system. This will allow VIVA to travel a comfortable 12 knots on diesel-electric power in the pristine areas the yacht is set to explore. The giant glass construction is a prominent feature in the remarkable exterior design by Feadship Studio De Voogt and Azure. They also obviously play a key role in the open beach-house-style interior by Peter Marino Architects. The owner’s ‘less is more’ philosophy has influenced every aspect of the design inside and out, with an abundance of clean lines. Painted in a special pearl-white livery, the hull has been designed, engineered and built to be as efficient as possible and reduce the engine power required to move VIVA through the water.

$175 Million Superyacht Viva Moored Off Nantucket

Jason Graziadei • Jul 06, 2022

If you’ve arrived or departed from the island by boat over the past few days, you couldn’t have missed the gargantuan visitor lurking just offshore.

The 308-foot superyacht Viva was moored off Nantucket earlier this week, just outside the jetties, as the massive vessel was too large to navigate into the harbor. It departed for Martha's Vineyard Wednesday night.

The $175 million Viva, which was built by Feadship in the Netherlands and completed just last year, features its own helicopter which has been spotted circling around the island this week. It is the 85th largest superyacht in the world, and is believed to be owned by billionaire Frank Fertitta III , the CEO of Station Casinos in Las Vegas and founder of Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The yacht’s helicopter sports the tail number N702FF, which was believed to have been chosen for Fertitta’s initials.

"That's definitely one of the biggest vessels I've seen around Nantucket in my 20 years here," Harbormaster Sheila Lucey said on Wednesday.

The yacht has been called the “most environmental-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” as it features a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to travel at 12 knots under diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems on board. Its annual running costs are reported to be in excess of $17.5 million .

Viva has a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. Among its many amenities are a cinema, a beauty salon, a gym, and, of course, a helipad on the upper deck.

Following its construction in the Dutch shipyard, the massive yacht had to squeeze through narrow canals to make it out to sea, as documented in these photos shared by CNN last year.

Feadship launches 94m superyacht VIVA (Project 817)

By Steve Mandaluff   26 February 2021

Feadship’s 94m (308ft) superyacht VIVA, previously known as Project 817, has left the Dutch builder's yard in Kaag for the first time today.

The custom-built superyacht includes a number of ambitious features to fulfill the needs of the Owner, a very experienced yachtsman who has owned and chartered numerous Feadships over recent years.

An advanced hybrid propulsion system has been installed in keeping with the Owner’s desire to ensure the efficiency and environmental impact of the 94m (308ft) yacht is the same as his previous Feadship, despite that being some 32m (105ft) shorter. The end result will mean  VIVA can cruise comfortably at 12 knots on diesel-electric power.

Feadship superyacht VIVA on the water

The superyacht's styling is clean and linear, with all exterior doors flush with the design and operating on electric sliding mechanisms, as part of the Owner’s less-is-more philosophy.

A further prominent feature of the latest Feadship build is its floor-to-ceiling windows, which also play a key role in its open beach house-style interior by Peter Marino Architects. The exterior design comes courtesy of Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture and Studio De Voogt.

Feadship superyacht VIVA in shed

This comes at the start of another busy year for Feadship with eight superyachts set to be delivered in 2021, the largest of which will be the 95m (312ft) Project 1009. She will take her place in Feadship's top ten superyachts by length, a list headed by 110m (361ft) ANNA, when she is handed over to her Owner.

It is not yet known whether VIVA will become available for luxury yacht charters.

Take a look at the superyacht the Jefferies CEO just bought from the Houston Rockets' billionaire owner

  • Jefferies CEO Rich Handler sold $65 million of stock — some of which he used to buy a superyacht.
  • He purchased Boardwalk from billionaire friend and client Tilman Fertitta.
  • Here's a look at the multimillion-dollar superyacht.

Earlier this week, Jefferies CEO Rich Handler sold $65 million worth of stock in the investment bank — enough to warrant a press release — partly to buy a yacht from his friend and client, hospitality billionaire and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta .

"My sale of shares today was a gift to myself and my family," Handler said in the release.

It's a pretty good gift. The boat in question is a 50-meter superyacht named Boardwalk.

According to the yacht's shipyard, Westport Yachts, the off-market deal was pending as of last month. The sale price isn't public.

Boardwalk, which is currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , was originally delivered in 2010. She features a spa pool and helipad on her sun deck, as well as multiple bars and 15 bathrooms, of which at least one has a television. The master cabin has a dressing room and a private study, and there are scooters on board to make getting around easier — and more fun.

She can fit 12 guests and 12 crew members, according to industry source SuperYacht Times .

"It isn't cheap, I can tell you that. I just love it," Fertitta told a local ABC affiliate in 2017, referring to Boardwalk's $40 million price tag.

While Boardwalk is technically part of "a series" — one of a fleet of boats built by the shipyard of this size and general design — Fertitta made many custom adjustments, adding lights throughout and opening up spaces to create a less formal feel, he told Yachts International in 2011.

Handler has been a guest on the yacht before, landing on its deck via helicopter when it was moored in St. Barts , according to a video posted on Fertitta's Instagram account in 2018.

"It's a shame when you have to pick your friends up to come see you. This is @handlerrich roughin' it to the @boardwalk164," he wrote in the caption.

"It's one of those things that I've always wanted and I'll always have," Fertitta said during the 2017 interview.

While he won't always have this exact boat, Fertitta, who is worth $9.3 billion, per Forbes, will likely always have a yacht and appears to have traded up.

He teased his new, fully custom vessel — a 77-meter giant built by Dutch shipyard Feadship — in 2019. It was delivered in 2021 and is also named Boardwalk.

The new Boardwalk has a more modern design. The gym has a Peloton and a Mirror ; there's a sauna and beauty salon; and there are six sit-down bars — appropriate for a hospitality billionaire.

"This takes it to a whole new level," his son, Michael, told Boat International .

Looks like Handler still has something to aspire to.

Underwater superyachts? A CEO is pitching fantastical ships that can go 800 feet down and stay submerged for weeks

  • Austria's Migaloo is offering to build a private "submersible superyacht" for the ultrarich.
  • It says the M5 would be able to travel 820 feet underwater and stay submerged for a month.
  • Despite the high up-front cost, CEO Christian Gumpold says the firm is in talks with buyers.

Insider Today

Forget megayachts. Forget billionaire basements. If you're unfathomably rich and want a new toy, there's an Austrian company that says it will build you a fully submersible yacht.

And this is no rickety Titan submersible .

The Migaloo M5 concept, the company says, involves a 540-foot base-model superyacht that would travel about 820 feet underwater and stay down there for up to a month.

"The needs of superyacht owners for their vessels are more complex than ever," Migaloo CEO Christian Gumpold told Business Insider, adding: "These wishes do not just include performance, length, or design."

Gumpold said that yacht owners were "looking for privacy, security, and protection for themselves, their guests and their valuables, or for the fulfillment of unique experiences up to scientific desires, as well as for the greatest possible exclusivity."

According to its marketing materials, Migaloo says the vessel's layout and features could be designed around any customer priority, whether that's security, thrill seeking, research, or simply vacation.

The company offers prospective buyers a checklist of options, including LED exterior lighting with a laser show, a helipad, a hot-air balloon, and — for the aspiring Bond villain — an underwater shark-feeding station.

The vessel could feasibly host a wealth of supplemental vehicles, including mini submarines, exploration vehicles, and working boats, it said.

Although at times it's described in the company marketing materials as a "private submersible superyacht" the M5 would technically be able to sail as a submarine — an underwater vessel that can launch itself and return under its own power, rather than having to be launched by a mother ship.

It's envisioned as being able to house up to 20 guests and about 40 staffers.

The Migaloo concept aims to satisfy an increasing desire for privacy and security among the world's richest people.

Related stories

The most expensive megayachts ever sold now run into the half-billion-dollar range or more, with at least three $600 million yachts afloat, owned by various oligarchs and oil-state royalty.

Bobbing about underwater in a Migaloo M5, Elon Musk wouldn't have to worry about a jet-tracking student any longer.

Gumpold told BI he had specialized in yacht design since 2008, and he promised that all the complex arrangements of the Migaloo project — working with shipyards, flag states, and classification societies — would be taken care of by his company.

Much of the marketing material for Migaloo runs to possibilities that sound like science fiction, addressing problems that would either apply only to the ultrarich or which the rest of us would be too dead to care about.

Saying it works with the security company Safe, Migaloo claims it could create a "private submersible fortress," offering protection from electromagnetic pulses, cybercrime, piracy, solar flares, asteroids, and polar shifts.

That's on top of a gamut of features that any megayacht owner might expect, including spas, gyms, a gaming room, a wine cellar, an art gallery, and a panic room.

The cost, however, is the ultimate "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" test.

Gumpold told Fast Company that the price depended on the scope of the client's requests, comparing it to the price tag on large superyachts.

According to Fast Company's estimation, there are only 50 people in the world who could afford to purchase a luxury submergible megayacht.

It remains to be seen if and when any prospective buyers will bite.

Gumpold told BI his company was "still in close contact with several potential owners worldwide" and "very close" to executing the first project steps.

But he didn't elaborate on any concrete steps and wouldn't name any of his prospective clients.

With a turnaround time of about four to seven years, it's also going to be awhile before any of them would take to the seas.

Watch: The search is on for clues in the Titan sub implosion

A TOWERING £68 million super yacht named after its US millionaire owner's dog has glided into Cornwall.

The 209ft luxury expedition vessel, Scout, which is reported to be owned by philanthropist James Berwind, arrived in Falmouth on Wednesday.

Scout, owned by American millionaire James Berwind and named after his dog, arrives in Falmouth on Wednesday

The British seaside town has become a playground for the rich in recent months , with its marina full of super yachts that put Monaco to shame.

Last September eight huge passenger liners also docked carrying around 10,000 tourists within a matter of days, leading locals to blast the visitors for their stingy behaviour.

Family fortune heir Mr Berwind is the son of the late Charles Graham Berwind, who headed the clan’s coal mining company, Berwind Corporation, and is estimated to have a net worth of over $500 million (£400m).

From initial sketches on a napkin by Mr Berwind, Scout was designed by UK-based H2 Yacht Design, before being built at Hakvoort Shipyard in the Netherlands in 2019 - becoming the largest yacht the yard had ever constructed.

Scout is no stranger to Falmouth, with the superyacht's tender T/T Scout being custom built by Mylor-based heritage boat builders Cockwells.

It is understood that the millionaire dog lover's luxury yacht is visiting Cornwall to collect T/T Scout, which was seen leaving Cockwells where it has undergone a winter refit.

Scout was originally named Project Zeus before being re-branded as Something Cool in reference to the Heineken family prior to being purchased by Mr Berwind.

IMPRESSIVE AMENITIES

It can accommodate up to 10 guests and a crew of 14.

The impressive vessel is powered by two Caterpillar engines, which allow for a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

It also boasts a range of impressive amenities, including a gym, lift-accessed sauna, cinema room, and a large sun deck with a Jacuzzi.

The yacht also has a spacious living area for entertaining and a formal dining room, as well as a more casual dining space-cum winter garden on the upper deck.

The owner is a keen gardener, and has his own greenhouse and potting shed on the bridge deck.

One of its most unique features is the sculpture of the Scout the dog and another is a LEGO model of the yacht itself in the main saloon.

World's first 'Transformer' superyacht

superyacht viva owner

THE world's first "transformer" superyacht was unveiled last month , with the vessel unfolding into a floating villa when docked.

Monaco -based designer Stefano Pastrovich finally revealed his aptly dubbed creation X-Kid Stuff on March 24, a mega  superyacht  designed for modern-day explorers and adventurers.

When closed, the  yacht  appears sleek, modern, and seamless.

Yet, when anchored you can open her up to reveal an impressive 15m of storage - purpose built for adventuring toys,  jet skis , a helipad, a swimming pool, an artificial beach or even just additional sleeping space.

These detachable and self-powered units have been dubbed "floating bungalows, with the potential to become a guest-house of sorts.

This is the first concept in Pastrovich's " Parkour  yacht" class, which is said to have taken inspiration from its surroundings and been as efficient as possible.

The X-Kid Stuff, for example, is built in the image of a beehive.

Last autumn , an even bigger 258ft  luxury   yacht arrived in Falmouth.

The vessel, called Rocinante after Don Quixote's horse, is owned by a games developer and managed to pretty much dwarf everything else tied up in the marina when it rolled in in September.

Moored next to Rocinante was the largest catamaran in the world 'Hemisphere', which was built by Pendennis shipyard, which is quickly emerging as an industry front runner.

However, Rocinante wasn’t the only super yacht in town.

Not far away was Game Changer, which is thought to be owned by the  Hong Kong  based billionaire heiress Karen Lo.

If that wasn't enough,  Cornwall Live  reported that six other cruise ships had visited just days earlier.

Pendennis Shipyard emerged from a small boat builders into a global firm in just 30 years.

It is currently building Project Fox, a 35m yacht designed as a luxury exploration vessel. The vessel will be equipped with submersibles and launching cranes.

ANNOYED LOCALS

But the emergence of Falmouth as a playground for super yachts and huge passenger liners has annoyed Cornish locals.

Edith Fasching said previously: "It’s such a pity to let those ships near the lovely Cornwall coast. Other harbours try to get rid of them.

"The passengers spend no noteworthy  money , they consume everything in the ship. It’s just a huge environmental burden.”

Video shows stolen yacht crashing into multiple other boats in California

A boat thief swiped a yacht in Southern California on Thursday, authorities said, then collided with multiple other boats in the harbor.

Joel Siam, 38, was booked on suspicion of grand theft of a boat and possession of a stolen boat and was being being held on $3 million bail, Orange County jail records showed on Friday.

Dispatchers on Thursday had originally been notified at 9:21 a.m. PST about an act of vandalism along the docks near 1200 W. Coast Highway before another call came, reporting a stolen boat a half-mile away, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Heather Rangel said.

"It was determined that the suspect was the same person for each incident," Rangel said. "The suspect stole the boat and proceeded to leave the area when he collided with multiple boats in the bay."

The suspect, from San Diego, was captured by the Orange County Sheriff's Harbor Patrol, police said.

Siam struck at least three vessels and investigators didn't have an immediate price tag on the damage, sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Braun said Friday.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the suspect’s motive might have been.

“We do not believe the suspect knew the boat owner,” of the craft he allegedly stole, Braun added.

As Siam first started operating the luxury vessel, it caught the attention of real estate broker Dylan Eckardt, who was at his new office right on the docks.

“That was crazy,” Eckardt told NBC News on Friday. “I was on the phone and I heard the boat back out and when the boat backed out I started videoing.”

A man was accused of stealing this yacht in Newport Beach and crashing it into several others before being taken into custody on March 10, 2022.

Eckardt, who grew upon the far east end of Long Island, initially believed there was a mechanical problem with the yacht.

“I grew up on Montauk, I know a lot about boats and I was like, ‘What the hell was going on?’ I thought the engine was stuck, like the throttle (was stuck),” he said. “Then I saw the guy up top taking his shirt off, I knew there was a situation.”

Siam is due to appear in court on Monday, jail records showed. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had hired an attorney been assigned one by Friday, a spokeswoman for the Orange County DA said.

Real Estate Santa Barbara California

A spectacular 3,500-acre California coastal ranch outside Santa Barbara , complete with two sprawling Spanish-style villas and a working ranch , has just been listed for a jaw-dropping $110 million.

It’s the first time the historic El Rancho Tajiguas has been offered since its owner, French-Saudi billionaire and Formula One racing powerhouse Mansour Ojjeh, purchased the property almost 40 years ago.

The $110 million asking price makes the secluded ranch on California’s rugged Gaviota Coast 25 miles west of Santa Barbara, one of the priciest properties ever listed in the area.

What arguably makes the ranch even more appealing is its two 10,000-square-foot-plus homes on opposite sides of the property. Development is this area of the coast is heavily regulated and it reportedly took Ojjeh more than five years to secure approvals for the homes.

Both villas provide breathtaking views of the Pacific across to the Channel Islands and back to the Santa Ynez mountains. The Villa della Costa home was completed in 2014 and features five bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a 60-foot pool, and 106 acres of land. As recently as April 2017, it was listed for $35 million.

The second home, Villa del Mare, was completed in 2015 and features five bedrooms and 11 baths, together with a seven-car garage and separate guest house and cabana. It was listed in March 2017 with a 287-acre parcel of land for $38.5 million.

The ranch also features an historic 7,000-square-foot adobe hacienda in the estate’s central valley. Ojjeh bought the 20-room, 16-acre property, believed to date back to the 1800s, from actor John Travolta in 1988. For the time being, the hacienda is not included in the sale.

What potential buyers will get for their $110 million outlay—in addition to those two homes and 3,500 acres—is a fully-working ranch with 120 head of cattle, around 20 other buildings for the staff, and a farm planted with avocado, orange, and persimmon trees.

If Ojjeh’s name sounds familiar, the 66-year-old heads-up the Luxembourg-based group TAG, an acronym for Techniques d’Avant Garde. For the past 32 years, he’s been a driving force behind Britain’s McLaren Group, especially its Formula One team; he currently holds a 25 percent stake. He also owned the TAG Heuer watch group, before selling it in 1999 to LVMH for a reported $739 million.

The El Rancho Tajiguas listing is being shared by agents Marco Naggar and Aaron Kirman of Compass, together with Randy Solakian of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury .
