Superyacht Deckhand – Package Course

MCA Internationally recognised training to become a superyacht deckhand. This IYT Deckhand Training Course is a qualification unlike the recreational sailing “Competent Crew” course which is being offered through other superyacht training providers.

The IYT Deckhand Training Course certification is the only internationally recognised qualification for deckhands. Your graduation certificate will be accredited by International Yacht Training (IYT) Worldwide, who has recognition with 25 governments across the globe.

The Superyacht Crew Academy’s Superyacht Deckhand package course is a complete training package for starting out in the industry. The package course includes both the STCW95+10 safety course & the Superyacht Deckhand course. This package course places great emphasis on becoming an industry ready and desirable employee. Giving you the theoretical and practical skills necessary to be an active crew member onboard a superyacht. This package is specifically designed to set you on your pathway as a Deckhand. If you don’t have a maritime background or experience in the professional industry this is definitely the course for you.

The S TCW 95+10 is a basic safety training course that is compulsory for all crew on superyachts. The STCW95+10 gives you the minimum standard of qualification required to work on vessels of any size and equips you with a detailed understanding of what to do in the event of marine emergencies. You will study safety and sea survival, first aid and CPR, fire fighting including use of breathing apparatus, personal and social responsibilities and vessel security.

The  Superyacht Deckhand course will ensure students become job ready, receive resume and career advice, participate in interview role plays and undertake further crew management training. A deckhand carries out his or her duties under the direction and authority of the captain via the first officer and/or bosun. A deckhand’s duties include keeping the yacht’s exterior and deck equipment clean and exquisitely maintained, assisting in watch keeping and navigational support, guest services and docking procedures. Students will receive extensive training in these areas and the course provides the theoretical and practical skills required to be a successful crew member onboard a superyacht. Both power and sail superyacht skills are covered in the course, which will increase your opportunities for placement once you graduate.

Certification You Will Achieve

All successful graduates receive the following certification:

International

  • MCA Recognised STCW 95+10

yacht rating course

AMSA – National

  • Certificate I in Maritime Operations to apply for a General Purpose Hand NC Certificate of Competency(COC).5 days of qualifying sea service on commercial vessels of any size is required to apply for the COC. This AMSA (COC) is not recognised for working overseas and is only valid in Australia.
  • Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency ‘Provide First Aid’

Our Internationally Recognised Certifications Are Your Entry To Getting A Job Aboard A Superyacht

The MCA recognised IYT Deckhand Training Course is the only internationally recognised qualification for superyacht deckhand crews. Your graduation certificate will be accredited by International Yacht Training (IYT) Worldwide, who has recognition with 25 governments across the globe. The RIB tender certificate is recognised by the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

In addition, Superyacht Crew Academy is an Australian Nationally Recognised Registered Training Organisation and if you complete the STCW 95+10 training with us you will also qualify for a Certificate I in Maritime Operations to apply for a General Purpose Hand NC Certificate of Competency (COC) with AMSA. This certificate will allow you to work on Australian commercial vessels.

The Superyacht Crew Academy has established over the years a global network with leading recruitment agencies overseas and within Australia. All of these Superyacht Crew recruitment agencies ‘acknowledge’ and welcome the IYT Superyacht Deck Crew certification.

Deckhand Training Courses

Entry-level deckhand courses and qualifications to help land your first job on a superyacht.

Essential Deckhand Training:

Entry-level deckhand courses and qualifications are essential to your success in the superyacht industry. Obtaining your first job as a deckhand is difficult as it is a fiercely competitive position. With a great deal of training available, it may be difficult to understand which deckhand courses are right for you and your budget. Before deciding on which courses to enrol in, we encourage you to understand the role of these courses and certifications so that you are able to make informed decisions.

Below is a list of essential courses you should take as an aspiring deckhand with little or no experience :

  • STCW Basic Training
  • RYA Power Boat Level 2 or IYT Rib Master
  • Proficiency in Security Awareness PSA or Designated Security Duties (PDSD)

You are able to connect with our global network of deckhand training providers for each course, either by selecting a specific course, or by selecting a region in the deckhand course finder section, found below the course content.

STCW Basic Safety Training

In order for you to legally obtain a job on a commercial superyacht (over 24m) you have to be certified with all four basic safety training modules, which are as follows:

  • Personal Survival Techniques | PST (A-VI/1-1)
  • Fire Fighting Fire Prevention | FFP (A-VI/1-2)
  • Elementary First Aid | EFA (A-VI/1-3)
  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities | PSSR (A-VI/1-4)

STCW Basic Training courses can be booked on an individual bases or booked in combination with other essential deckhand courses. You can find out more about STCW Basic Training , connect with an STCW Basic Training Centre near you , or continue to other deckhand safety training courses below.

*Although this is a commercial requirement, it is generally seen as a requirement for employment onboard private vessels by yacht owners, captains, management companies or flag states. Failure to obtain STCW Basic training severely limits employment opportunities.

Powerboat / Rib Training:

As an aspiring deckhand, this course is a necessity, providing you with an essential license to drive superyacht tenders around the world. Unless you have a role that excludes you from such deckhand activities, this is a crucial course that forms the basis upon which you can develop your vessel handling skills. These skills are not only required to drive guests, but also to pass practical examinations required for licenses required to drive larger vessels.

The two most popular courses that do not require any prior experience, are the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course or the IYT Small Powerboat & Rib Master . Although the majority of deckhand job posts request a Powerboat Level II, an IYT Small Powerboat & Rib Master is seen as an equivalent and serves the same purpose. Both are recognised by the MCA.

Savvy Maritime Tender For Training

Proficiency in Security Certificate

(STCW A-VI/6-1) & (STCW A-VI/6-1)

In order to work on an ISPS-compliant vessel, an STCW proficiency in security certificate is required. Proficiency in Designated Security Awareness (PSA)  is the minimum requirement, whereas  Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD)  is required for crew who are designated security duties on such vessels.

Both courses can be done in class or online. *ISPS complaint yachts are commercial yachts larger than 500GT (Usually commercial yachts +50m in length)*

Find out more about the PSA & PDSD Certification and connect with a training provider, or continue reading about further deckhand training below.

Beneficial Deckhand Courses:

Courses to broaden your deckhand skill set and capabilities for common superyacht duties

Deckhand Tender

Superyacht Deckhand Course:

Most "Superyacht Deckhand Courses" are non-accredited and do not form part of a requirement for legal employment but are generally sold in conjunction with essential courses (some of which may be mandatory or deemed as appropriate by the training provider in question) and advertised as a "superyacht deckhand course" package or similar.

The purpose of a superyacht deckhand course to introduce candidates to the duties and skills associated with the role of a deckhand. This course is tailored towards candidates with little to no exposure to the superyacht industry.

Course content is dependant on the training provider but generally includes industry information, general deck procedures, wash-downs, maintenance, cleaning procedures, line handling, knots and bends, as well other topics to help familiarize you with the deck department career path the lies ahead.

Superyacht deckhand courses give potential employers an indication that yous have a basic skill set and understanding of the deckhand duties that lie ahead.  This forms a foundation upon which to build skills and knowledge through onboard training and experience. Depending on the location and school in question, a small amount of onboard training/experience on a yacht nearby may be included.

VHF Short Range Certificate (SRC):

As a deckhand seeking your first job in the yachting industry, it is advisable to obtain a VHF Short Range Certificate, preferably one recognised by the MCA. VHF is a common form of communication not only from the bridge of the superyacht but also from tenders to the main vessel (or other vessels) when out of UHF Radio range (your personal hand held for internal crew communication), or to land based authorities.

This 1-day course is an essential qualification required for further deck qualifications (Such as a Yachtmaster/ Master of Yachts), and is also required for commercial endorsement of a small powerboat license. The sooner you as a deckhand becomes familiar with this equipment the better. It is, therefore, a recommended course for green deckhands to complete.

Personal Watercraft (PWC) License

PWC's often referred to as Jet Ski's or Wave Runners, are common watercraft found on board superyachts. Operation of PWC's is a common duty of a deckhands during guest trips. Certain countries require PWC operators to hold a license, most commonly countries in Europe/ The Mediterranean, making it mandatory for crew to hold a license should they wish to operate one.

This one-day theory and practical course will teach you how to operate and navigate a personal watercraft in a safe manner. No previous experience or qualifications are required. A certificate is provided upon successful completion of the course (to the required standard). The IYT PWC and RYA PWC are recommended, accredited versions of this course.

In areas where jet ski licenses are not required, it is a commonly requested by captains, management companies and owners for insurance purposes. It is very beneficial to hold such a license.

Complementary Deckhand Training

Additional courses to give you an edge (that do not require previous deckhand experience)

  • RYA Personal Watercraft (PWC) Instructor
  • SCUBA Diving Qualifications

Jet ski instructor riding a personal water craft

RYA Personal Watercraft (Jet Ski) Instructor Course

Due to the fact that charter guests and yacht crew require a PWC license in order to operate a Jet Ski in the Med, the demand for crew with the PWC instructor certification is high. Crew with the instructor license (working on a correctly registered vessel) are able to certify guests with an RYA Introduction to PWC Safety Course, allowing them to use the watercraft during their time on board.

Scuba Diving:

Scuba diving experience and qualifications are beneficial in helping land a job as a deckhand. While Dive Instructor and Dive Master courses considerably improve the chances of getting a job on vessels that support guest diving experiences, basic Open Water and Advanced diving qualifications are also beneficial and will improve your CV.

Whether it is accompanying guests on a dive in the Bahamas or inspecting something under the hull of the yacht, scuba diving experience can be a great addition to your skill set as a deckhand.

Deckhand Training & Certificates For Deckhands With Sea Time & Experience

Courses & certification for deckhands that have evidence of sea service and real tender handling experience after 1 to a few busy seasons of employment

  • MCA Yacht Rating Certificate
  • Yacht-Master / Master of Yachts
  • Advanced Powerboat
  • MCA Efficient Deckhand (EDH)

MCA Yacht Rating Certificate

Certain commercial superyachts require a number of crew to hold a Yacht Rating certificate as per the safe manning procedures of the vessel in question. An individual can apply for an MCA Yacht Rating certificate once the required sea time is acquired and by completing specific tasks in the Training Record Book (TRB), signed off by a qualified officer or captain.

For Crew without experience, the yacht service requirement can be reduced if aYacht Rating Course Completion Certificate  or - IYT Superyacht Deck Crew Course is attained but the MCA Yacht Rating Certificate can only be applied for once 2 months of sea service is acquired.

Therefore, although a "Yacht Rating Course" covers some important aspects, usually taught onboard, completion of this course does not qualify a candidate to apply for a job that requires an MCA Yacht Rating Certificate , unless the applicant has sufficient sea service and meets the medical and STCW requirement.

If you are required to be licensed to drive larger powerboats (10m - 24m) during the day and night and have insufficient sea time and experience for your Master of Yachts 200, then the Advanced Power boat course is an option to consider. With an RYA/MCA Advanced Powerboat Commercial Endorsement, license holders are able to drive an MCA coded boat up to 24m in length or 80 gross tons up to 20 miles away from the shore or safe haven. The responsibility of large tender handling is usually only given to crew have built up significant time behind the helm of tenders, under supervision of more experienced crew. If you are new to the industry (unless you have real large power boating experience) you are likely to be accompanied and supervised by a more experienced, licensed crew member during large tender handling duties. It should therefore not be assumed that this course will allow you to take on such duties without time, experience  and training with a more experienced crew member present.

Deckhand Next to Yacht Tender

Yachtmaster / Master of Yachts 200:

Gaining a Master of Yachts Certification is an important step for those who would like to progress their career as a deckhand and start taking on additional responsibilities. A Commercially Endorsed Master of Yachts 200GT opens up more employment opportunities (fulfils certain manning requirements for commercial vessels), allows candidates to work as an Officer on yachts <500GT and allows candidates to begin training modules that form part of the requirement for an MCA Officer of The Watch (OOW) 3000  and is a common requirement for the primary drivers of guests in large superyacht tenders. Find out more about the RYA and IYT Yachtmaster / Master of Yachts.

Efficient Deckhand (EDH) Course

Once you have your Yachtmaster / Master of Yachts under your belt and you are ready to start chipping away at your OOW (MCA Officer of the Watch 3000 Limited), it is advised to begin with the Efficient Deckhand Course. An EDH will ensure that you operate in a safe and professional manner when moving to a more senior role where leadership and instruction is required. The framework for further training can be found on our Deckhand to OOW course page .

  • MCA Yacht Rating Course

Large yachts especially those over 200Gt require Deckhands to have certain minimum certification levels in order to meet manning requirements set out by the MCA. The minimum usually required is the MCA Yacht Rating Certificate.

It usually takes 6 months of sea service + task book completion in order to be eligible for an MCA Yacht Rating Certificate, however, by booking your MCA Yacht Rating course with us, delivered by PYT South Africa, your sea service requirement is reduced to 2 months and there is no need to fill out a task book.

After exploring numerous top 50 bars across America, I've finally discovered the epitome of excellence - Yacht Club. Without a doubt, it stands out as the best bar I've encountered so far. The uniqueness and deliciousness of every drink on their menu left me thoroughly impressed. However, "The Fourth Color" stole the show and became an instant favorite. If I find myself in Denver again, I'm committing to ordering 10 glasses of this delightful concoction every night. Special thanks to the long-haired gentleman who recommended this extraordinary drink. His expertise added an extra layer of enjoyment to an already fantastic evening. Kudos to Yacht Club for delivering an unparalleled bar experience that has set the standard for my future explorations. Cheers to many more unforgettable nights!

This is a fun, funky little bar, which is a nice follow-up to dinner at Brasserie Brixton next door. We just had a couple cocktails/wine. I don't love natural wine, so I might stick to the cocktails/beer next time.

Photo of Ed D.

My friend took me here and it's a pretty cool vibe. Very relaxed and the bartenders are awesome. They have very unique cocktails and the three that we tried were delicious. The prices were good for the quality cocktails. The only downside was it was packed and it was hard to converse because it was so loud. I really had to be close to my friend to hear what she was saying. Anyways it's a nice casual bar to visit

I don't normally write reviews for bars but this place is a hidden gem! Unique and perfectly crafted cocktails. You won't find anything else like this. A huge selection of unique drinks including a ton of clarified milk drinks that confuse your brain with how something so clear can have such a balance of flavors. Super friendly & knowledgeable bartenders (shout out to coleman!). It's the cocktails of your dreams without the pretentiousness of a cocktail bar. Unassuming almost dive bar vibes - you'd think its a place to just get a beer. But obviously don't - the bar tenders are seriously talented. Perfect spot to hang out, have fun, and enjoy amazing drinks. Bonus points is that they serve hot dogs! And not just your normal ketchup and mustard, but specialty items that are a perfect pairing with drinks. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

This bar was recently awarded as one of the best bars in North America by the 50 best discovery list and I can see why. This bar is definitely one of the best bars I've ever been to. The drinks are super unique, well balanced, and full bodied. Each drink had such a cool combination of flavors and the texture of each one was smooth. The bar tenders were also crazy fast at making the drinks but the quality was great. The place surprisingly never got too crowded and we found a spot immediately. Keep in mind we showed up around 9 and it started to get more crowded around 10 or later. The bathrooms were clean considering it's a bar and the place was fun and they played bobs burgers on the wall. All the drinks are very reasonably priced considering it's denver and how the drinks are so amazing. We had the im on soka, south side swizzle, hvr water, laughing bones, and pencil thin chinstrap. The I'm on soka was super refreshing and the bar tender actually gave us a sample of it since they pre make it and keep it in the fridge. The drink is amazing. Not too strong of absinthe and I am not a absinth drinker. The drink is so refreshing and a great way to start the night. The hvr water also is premade and was genuinely one of the best drinks I've ever had. The dill flavor was so prominent and the buttermilk which was strained out gave a really great full bodied feel to the drink. The tequila was not strong at all and the drink was very refreshing. The pencil thin chinstrap was very booze forward and definitely not my style but if you like cognac and stronger flavors like that this is the drink for you. The laughing bones had such a unique flavor and it was so good. You could actually taste the curry leaf too which blew me away. The south side swizzle was a very pretty drink although the ice was super thick and it was hard to enjoy the drink. The flavors were the least complex but it's definitely a trendy drink. The bartenders were fast, attentive, and were so good at their jobs. They were busy and yet had time to answer our questions. Seriously go to this bar and you won't regret it. I'm already planning my next trip back and I don't do that often.

If you hate world-class (and award-winning) drinks, cool ass vibes and insanely tasty hotdogs, then this isn't the place for you. The owners know their stuff-- and the bartenders are amazing. It helps that they are also wonderful human beings as well. I love this place and think you're a gosh darn fool if you don't head here and support this local gem immediately.

Gosh I wanted so bad to love this place but the service & drinks just let me down! These may have been the worst craft cocktails I have ever had in my life. Located outside RiNo in the Cole neighborhood next to Brasserie Brixton, The Yacht Club is a whole vibe- it's darkly lit, no sign (except an anchor on the door) and looks super swanky from the outside. When you enter, the area between the door & pub is nature-y vibe & inside, it's super trendy with a dark ambiance & filled with music that is just a little to loud. We picked an open table that sat 4 but was missing a seat so it was a little awkward but we found a barstool that didn't fit but worked. The space holds maybe 40-50 people max so it's super cozy! And, who doesn't love a themed Yacht Club that serves up gourmet hot dogs & craft cocktails? There were ~3-4 bartenders that were interchangeably acting as servers too. We finally got some water as we perused the funky menu. All cocktails were $14 each & the beer selection was awful (think: miller highlife, PBR, etc). I loved the funky names & crafted liquors in each cocktail though! I tried the Milly Grace (corn whisky, mr black coffee liquor, rancio wine & caramelized banana)... served in a highball glass with an ice rock- I wanted to love it but it was so damn boozy I could hardly drink it! Joey got the Beginners Luck, which was the best of all of our drinks, albeit still so strong. My stepmom loves fruity drinks so she got the frozen banana daiquiri & it was soooo boozy too, you couldn't even taste the banana over the booze. My dad got the watermelon la crawl, which was a vodka based cocktail that was all booze & the only watermelon was from the jolly rancher they put on top. This all might have been a little better if the server actually returned to our table to see how the drinks were, or refill our water, or just to provide service... but that didn't happen. Once the drinks were on our table, we had to do the rest for ourselves- filling up water from a large gatorade cooler & getting our check from the bar. Not quite the experience you would expect from a craft cocktail lounge where you're paying good money for drinks with nice glassware...... All in all, the Yacht Club gave me really mixed feelings. I am all for $14 craft cocktails but I want a good flavor profile & not just so much booze that I can't taste anything... but the vibe was on point, I loved the space, so I may come back here for a hot dog & drink sometime but it certainly isn't on my list to return.

4.5 stars. How have I not heard of this adorable cocktail bar within walking distance of my house? Probably because it used to be located in the Source Hotel. Now it's attached to Brasserie Brixton (which I've been meaning to visit) and relatively easy to find if you recognize the nautical logo. Yacht Club gets busy quickly after opening at 4pm, so arrive early! Love that it's one of what seems like a few places actually available in Denver on Mondays. Lots of delicious, colorful cocktails with high quality ingredients. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri which I thought was frozen, but maybe I misspoke. Still tasty and boozy. The vibes are EVERYTHING, from Les Miserables projecting on the far wall to the staff laughing with each other. The Yacht Club menu mentions inclusivity as one of their values, and that's exactly what I felt. So many more drinks I can't wait to try, in addition to the separate menu of hot dogs.

Cool little place. I want to call it a five type spot but the drinks can get a little fancy but either way it had a great atmosphere and drinks were great.

Loved it. What a great neighborhood bar. Denver needs more places like this. Went early evening on a weekend and it was quiet yet but I'm sure it picks up later on

Personal Heroes: Celebrating the People Who Inspire Us

Who are your personal heroes? Are they people you know and admire, or are they famous personalities who have achieved great things in their lives? Heroes come in all shapes and sizes, but the one thing they have in common is that they inspire us to become better versions of ourselves. In this blog post, we will talk about the qualities that make someone a hero, and we will celebrate some of the most extraordinary heroes in our lives.

We will begin by exploring why our heroes are so important to us, and what makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd. We’ll talk about the difference between a hero and a role model, and how we can learn from their experiences to become better people ourselves. We’ll delve into the different types of heroes – from everyday people who do extraordinary things, to those who have made a significant impact on society through their work or activism.

We’ll take a look at some of the most common qualities that heroes possess, such as bravery, honesty, integrity, and selflessness. We’ll also discuss how we can cultivate these qualities in ourselves, and why they are so essential to our growth and development as individuals.

Whether your hero is your mom, your best friend, or a famous celebrity, there is always something to learn from their life and experiences. So, join us on this journey of discovery and celebrate the people who inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves.

Why My Mom is a Hero

Growing up, we all have personal heroes that we look up to, and my mom is definitely one of my heroes. Here are some reasons why:

She is a Supermom

My mom is the definition of a “supermom.” She works hard every day to provide for my family while still finding time to take care of us. No matter how busy she is, she always makes sure that we are fed, clothed, and loved.

She is My Best Friend

My mom is not just my mom; she’s also my best friend. We share everything with each other, whether it’s our favorite TV shows, our secrets, or our dreams for the future. I know that I can always count on her to be there for me when I need her.

She is a Great Listener

One of the things that I love most about my mom is that she’s a great listener. Whenever I need to talk to someone about my problems, she’s always there to listen and offer advice. I never feel judged or criticized when I talk to her, and she always makes me feel better.

She is My Role Model

My mom is not just a hero to me, but she’s also my role model. She’s kind, compassionate, hardworking, and always puts others before herself. I strive to be more like her every day.

She is Brave

My mom is one of the bravest people I know. She’s faced so many challenges in her life, but she’s never given up. She’s taught me that no matter what happens in life, you can always find a way to overcome it.

She has a Sense of Humor

Even in the toughest of times, my mom always manages to find something to laugh about. Her sense of humor has gotten us through some difficult situations and always brightens up my day.

She is My Mom

At the end of the day, the reason why my mom is my hero is that she’s my mom. She’s been there for me since day one, and there’s nothing that she wouldn’t do for me. I am grateful for her every day, and I love her more than words can express.

Final Thoughts

Mothers are truly amazing. They are the ones who love us unconditionally and sacrifice so much for us. My mom is my hero, and I will always be grateful for everything that she’s done for me.

How to Become Your Own Hero

We all have our personal heroes, but have we ever thought of becoming one ourselves? It may seem like an impossible feat, but it’s not! Here are some tips on how to become your own hero:

Believe in Yourself

The first step to becoming a hero is believing in yourself. You have to trust in your abilities and know that you have what it takes to make a difference. Don’t let self-doubt or fear hold you back, and always remember that you are capable of achieving greatness.

Heroes always have a clear mission. Identify your goals and work towards them systematically. Create a plan with actionable steps, and consistently track your progress towards achieving them. This way, you’re always making progress and moving towards your goals.

Be Courageous

Being a hero means being fearless and standing up for what you believe in. Face your fears head-on, and don’t be afraid to take risks. The road to success is rarely straightforward, and setbacks and difficulties are bound to arise, but being courageous will help you overcome them and continue moving forward.

Practice Kindness

Heroes are always kind, compassionate, and empathetic towards others. As you strive to be your own hero, make an effort to help others whenever you can. Small acts of kindness can make a big impact on someone’s day and pave the way towards a better world.

Keep Learning

Heroes are always seeking knowledge and new experiences. Keep yourself open to learning opportunities and constantly expand your horizons. This will help you grow as a person and continually improve yourself.

In conclusion, becoming your own hero is all about believing in yourself, setting goals, being courageous, practicing kindness, and staying curious. By following these tips, you can be the hero of your own story and inspire others to do the same.

My Personal Hero Essay

Growing up, I had a lot of heroes, but one person who stands out to me as my personal hero is my mother. She is a person I’ve always admired for her resilience, hard work, and selflessness. In this section, I will share with you why my mother is my personal hero.

Her Unwavering Resilience

My mother is one of the strongest women I know. She went through a lot of hardships growing up, yet she never let her struggles hinder her progress. She always found ways to rise above the challenges. Watching her overcome obstacles has taught me to be resilient amidst adversity.

Her Tireless Work Ethic

My mother is one of the most hardworking people I know. She always puts in her all into everything she does and never shies away from difficult tasks. Her work ethic has taught me to always give my best in everything I do.

Her Selfless Nature

My mother is one of the most selfless people I know. She always puts others’ needs before hers and goes out of her way to help whoever needs it. Her selflessness has taught me to always strive to help others, even if it means sacrificing my own comfort.

Her Role as a Single Parent

Raising three children as a single parent is not an easy feat, but my mother did it with grace and poise. She was able to provide for us even with limited resources and ensured that we lacked nothing. Her dedication to being a good parent has taught me that being a good parent is not measured by the number of resources available but by the effort put in.

Her Belief in Education

My mother has always believed that education is the key to success. She went back to school later in life to get her high school diploma and has always encouraged my siblings and me to pursue our education to the highest level. Her belief in education has taught me to value it and to always strive for knowledge.

Key Takeaways

  • My mother’s resilience taught me to be strong amidst adversity.
  • Her work ethic has taught me always to give my best in everything I do.
  • Her selflessness taught me always to strive to help others.
  • Her dedication as a single parent taught me that being a good parent is not measured by the number of resources available but by the effort put in.
  • Her belief in education has taught me to value it and to always strive for knowledge.

In conclusion, my mother is my personal hero for her unwavering resilience, tireless work ethic, selfless nature, dedication as a single parent, and belief in education. She has influenced me in many ways, and her qualities inspire me to be a better person every day.

Who is Your Hero Quora?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Who is your hero?” Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t. But if you’re on Quora, chances are you’ve seen plenty of people asking this very same question.

Here are some interesting things I’ve learned about who people on Quora consider their heroes:

  • Many people look up to their parents or grandparents as personal heroes. They admire their strong work ethic, their kindness, and their perseverance in the face of adversity.
  • Others look up to famous figures like Oprah Winfrey, Brené Brown, or Tony Robbins. These role models have inspired them with their words of wisdom and helped them overcome challenges in life.
  • Some people think of fictional characters like Harry Potter or Wonder Woman as their heroes. They admire their bravery, wit, and selflessness.
  • For some people, their hero is someone they know personally, like a close friend, mentor, or teacher. These people have made a significant impact on their lives and have helped them become who they are today.

No matter who your hero is, it’s clear that having a personal hero can be incredibly motivating and inspiring. It can give you hope during tough times and remind you of what’s truly important in life.

So, who is your hero? Take some time to think about it, and you might be surprised by what you discover.

What Makes a Real Hero?

Many of us look up to certain individuals, often referred to as “heroes.” But what makes someone a hero, exactly? Here are some points to consider:

Selflessness

A true hero puts others before themselves. Whether it’s a teacher staying up all night to grade papers or a soldier risking their life for their country, selflessness is a crucial trait.

It takes bravery to step up in difficult situations, and heroes often exhibit courage. This can mean standing up for what’s right, taking risks to help others, or facing dangerous circumstances.

It’s essential to understand and care about others to be a hero. Empathy allows individuals to see things from other people’s perspectives and act with kindness and compassion.

Perseverance

Heroes often face adversity and challenges. Perseverance allows individuals to push through and continue to fight for what’s right, even when things get tough.

Heroes have the power to inspire others and bring about positive change. They can encourage people to strive for their goals, overcome obstacles, and make the world a better place.

In conclusion, being a hero is about more than just having exceptional abilities or powers. It’s about selflessness, courage, empathy, perseverance, and the ability to inspire others. Anyone can be a hero if they embody these traits and act on them.

Who are Some Real-Life Heroes?

Heroes come in all shapes and sizes – they can be someone you know personally, or someone you’ve only heard of through the media. Here are a few examples of real-life heroes:

1. Healthcare Workers

Healthcare workers have been at the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, risking their lives to save others. They have worked tirelessly to care for those who are sick, often putting their own safety at risk. Their bravery and dedication have made them heroes in the eyes of many.

2. Teachers

Teachers have always been important members of our communities, but the pandemic has highlighted just how much we rely on them. Many have gone above and beyond to ensure that their students continue to receive an education despite the challenges posed by remote learning. Their commitment to their students is truly heroic.

3. Emergency Responders

Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics are just some of the emergency responders who put their lives on the line every day. They rush into dangerous situations without hesitation, ready to help those in need. These men and women are true heroes.

4. Activists

Activists fight for what is right, often in the face of adversity. They dedicate their lives to promoting social justice and equality, and they inspire others to do the same. Their courage and determination make them heroes in the eyes of many.

5. Everyday People

Heroes don’t always wear capes – sometimes they look like your neighbors or coworkers. Everyday people who perform acts of kindness or bravery can be heroes too. Whether it’s standing up to a bully or helping a stranger in need, these small acts can make a big difference.

Heroes come in many forms, but they all share a common trait: they put others before themselves. Whether it’s a healthcare worker risking their life to save a patient, a teacher going above and beyond to ensure their students succeed, or an activist fighting for what is right, heroes inspire us all to be better. Who are the heroes in your life? Take a moment to thank them for their service and let them know how much they mean to you.

Who are Your Real-Life Personal Heroes?

Everyone has those people who inspire them and push them to be better versions of themselves. These real-life personal heroes may be famous figures, family members, friends, or even strangers.

Family Members

Our families often inspire us to be our best selves. Whether it’s our parents who instilled values of hard work and perseverance, our siblings who are always there to listen, or our grandparents who share stories of resilience and hope, our family members can be some of our most significant personal heroes.

Friends are the family we choose, and they can make a significant impact on our lives. They challenge us to be better, offer support during tough times, and share in our accomplishments and milestones. Some real-life personal heroes may be the friends who have been there for us through thick and thin.

Teachers are often unsung heroes, but they can make a profound impact on our lives. From encouraging us to strive for our goals to showing us the beauty of learning, teachers can inspire us to be our best selves. They can also teach us essential life skills and help us discover our passions.

Role Models

Many people have real-life personal heroes who are famous figures or role models. These individuals may be actors, athletes, musicians, or activists who have made a significant impact on society. They can inspire us to chase our dreams, stand up for what we believe in, and be a force for good in the world.

Sometimes our personal heroes are people we’ve never even met. These strangers may have shown us unexpected kindness, provided a sense of hope during a trying time, or simply served as a source of inspiration. They remind us of the good in humanity and prove that one person can make a difference.

Everyone has their own personal heroes who have impacted their lives. Whether it’s a family member, friend, teacher, role model, or stranger, these individuals inspire us to be our best selves and make our world a better place. Who are your personal heroes? Take a moment to reflect and appreciate all the people in your life who have made a positive impact.

What Makes Someone a Hero?

When we think of people we admire, we often refer to them as our personal heroes. These heroes could be anyone – a family member, a friend, or even a fictional character. But what qualities do these people possess that make us look up to them? Here are a few qualities that make someone a hero:

Integrity and Honesty

Heroes are people who stand up for what is right, even when it’s difficult. They have strong values and principles, and they always try to do the right thing, even when no one is watching. They are honest and straightforward in their dealings, and they don’t compromise their integrity for anyone.

Courage and Bravery

Heroes are also known for their courage and bravery. They are willing to take risks and face challenges, even when they are afraid. They don’t give up easily, and they keep pushing forward even when the odds are against them.

Compassion and Empathy

Examples of essays about heroes: These Are The Heroes Of The Coronavirus Pandemic By Ruth Marcus

“Is this what they signed up for? There is some danger inherent in the ordinary practice of medicine, but not this much. I confess: I do not know that I would do the same in their circumstances; I am not sure I am so generous or so brave. If my child were graduating from medical school, how would I deal with her being sent, inadequately protected, into an emergency room? If my husband were a physician, would I send him off to the hospital — or let him back into the house in the interim?” Ruth Marcus

Healthcare workers have had no choice but to go above and beyond in recent years. In this essay, Marcus discusses the heroism of those in the healthcare field. He delves into the traits (including selflessness and courage) that make doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers heroes.

2.  Why Teachers Are My Heroes   By Joshua Muskin

“Teachers are my heroes because they accept this responsibility and try extremely hard to do this well even when the conditions in which they work are far from ideal; at least most do. Our jobs as society, education systems, and parents is to do our best to be strong allies to teachers, since their success is essential to ours.” Joshua Muskin

In this essay, Dr. Muskin discusses the many challenges teachers face and what parents, administrators, and education researchers can do to help teachers support students. Muskin explains that most teachers go above and beyond the call of duty to serve their classrooms.

3.  Martin Luther King Jr.—Civil Rights Activist & Hero   By Kathy Weiser-Alexander

“During this nonviolent protest, activists used boycotts, sit-ins, and marches to protest segregation and unfair hiring practices that caught the attention of the entire world. However, his tactics were put to the test when police brutality was used against the marchers, and King was arrested. But, his voice was not silenced, as he wrote his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” to refute his critics.” Kathy Weiser-Alexander

In this essay, Weiser-Alexander details both the traits and the actions of Dr. King before and during the civil rights movement. The author touches on King’s commitment to justice, persistence, and willingness to stand for his beliefs despite difficult circumstances.

“I remember this so vividly because Prefontaine was a hero to me, a hero in a way that no one was before, or really has been since. A British commentator once called him “an athletic Beatle.” If so, his persona was much more Lennon than McCartney. Actually, I thought of him more as Mick Jagger — or ultimately James Dean.” Bill O’Brian

A hero to many in the running world, Prefontaine’s confidence, unique style, and unmatched athletic ability have been heralded for decades. In this essay, O’Brian shares how he, as a distance runner during the era of Pre, related to his struggles and ambition.

“Burr fought against an ugly tide of anti-immigrant sentiment in the young republic, led by Hamilton’s Federalist party, which suggested that anyone without English heritage was a second-class citizen, and even challenged the rights of non-Anglos to hold office. In response, Burr insisted that anyone who contributed to society deserved all the rights of any other citizen, no matter their background.” Carey Wallace

In this essay, Wallace explains why Aaron Burr, the lifelong nemesis of founding father Alexander Hamilton, should be considered a historical hero. This essay exposes someone seen as a villain but much of society with a different take on their history.

It can be interesting to think about your definition of a hero. When describing what the term hero means to you, you may want to choose a person (or a few people) you look up to as a hero to solidify your point. You might want to include fictional characters (such as those in the Marvel universe) and real-life brave souls, such as police officers and firefighters.

A word of caution: stay away from the cliche opening of describing how the dictionary defines a hero. Instead, lead-in with a personal story about a hero who has affected your life. While talking about a public figure as a hero is acceptable, you may find it easier to write about someone close to you who you feel has displayed heroic qualities. Writing about a family member or friend who has shown up as a heroic main character in your life can be just as exciting as writing about a real or imagined superhero.

From Beowulf to Marvel comics, heroes in literature take on many different traits. When writing an essay on what trait makes a hero come alive in a short story, novel, or comic, choose a few of your favorite heroes and find common themes that they share.

Perhaps your favorite heroes are selfless and are willing to put themselves last in the name of sacrifice for others. Perhaps they’re able to dig deep into the truth, being honest even when it’s hard, for the greater good. There’s no need to list endless heroes to make your point—choosing three or four heroes from literature can be a great way to support your argument about what characteristics define heroism in literature.

When someone is named a hero in real life, we often picture them saving people from a burning building or performing a difficult surgical operation. It can be difficult to pin down exactly what constitutes a heroic act. When writing about what constitutes a heroic act, think about people who go above and beyond, performing feats of courage, honesty, and bravery to support themselves or others. When writing about what constitutes a heroic act, discuss real-life or literary examples of heroes at work.

To many people, being a hero means giving back to others. While giving something away or trading in one’s well-being for others can certainly be seen as a heroic act, many people wonder if selflessness is required for heroism or if a hero can serve the greater good in a way that also supports their happiness. When writing about whether selflessness is required for heroism, choose examples from literature and real-life to support your point.

For instance, your topic is ‘My father, my hero!’ Here is how you should begin writing your essay.

My father is a gem of a person. He knows how to take care of his family in times of distress. Apart from this, he is a great teacher, impacting the lives of millions of people. His noble ways of teaching and sharing knowledge make him a superhero not only for me but for all those people whose lives he touched.

My father had a small family. He was the only son of his parents. His parents loved him but were very strict. His childhood days were carefree, but he was a responsible kid, aware of his duty towards his parents. He would never disobey them. His love was unconditional for his parents, and he would go out of his way to serve them. Since he did not have his siblings to support him, he led quite a lonely life. He was a self-made man who struggled in his early years to make a name of himself. His teachers loved him for his honesty and intelligence.

As he grew up to be a man, he was loyal to his job and family. He left no stone unturned in serving his aging parents. He got married and had kids. His love continued to grow for his family. For the sake of our happiness, he would sacrifice his little acts of happiness. He would feel happy when we were happy. The students he taught learned acts of graciousness and nobility from him. They would yearn to be like him, striving in little ways to become a personality he would cherish. Simple acts of kindness made him a superhero. He became a hero in my eyes and in the lives of all those people he affected in one way or the other.

From the milkman to the newspaperman, every person would greet him with great respect. The respect he earned showed how loved and revered he was. His altruism, chivalry, and bravery were exhibited in daily activities. He was a man of integrity, values, and principles. All these things and a lot more made him different from other superheroes. He was neither a celebrity nor an action hero, but he was a great man of spirit who lived in people's hearts.

Personal Narrative Essay: Heroes In My Life

First, my dad has been a hero to me all my life. He has done so much for me. He helped me out with my car problems. My car problems consisted of oil changes, washer fluid, and etc... I think he is a hero because he keeps a roof over our head. He works all the time to keep food on the table as well. My dad is a hardworking, honest, and tough person and I try to be the same.

Secondly, My biological mom is also a hero. She raised me as a baby, into a toddler, into a kid, and basically until I was 13.  Homework was a breeze with my mom to help. It was nice to have help with work. She did take care of me until she left at 13. I was sad for a while until recently I get to see her again. She did raise me and so did my dad. They made me who I am today. My mother was good hearted.

Therefore on the subject, my stepmom raised me with my dad when I was 15. It was tough to have another person again after what happened with my mom and dad. It took a lot of time to get used to her. The only one who raised me was my dad for two years without another person around. I have had some fights with her, but ultimately we get along together. she was also the one who helped me with getting a car with my dad. she is a strong person.

Then, there is my sister. She helps around the house with me. she has helped me with work around the house. She helps me take care of the pets. One of the pets is our English Bulldog, Solo. The dog is not too difficult to take care of. We also have a bird. the bird is hard to take car of because it is a stubborn bird. The bird's name is Mr. Tweeters. Back to the point is my sister helps me with a lot of the work. she is a little stubborn but has a good heart.

Finally, the last person is my best friend Gavin Knard. He has been my friend since my mom left me. He is more responsible in certain areas than me. He does a lot of activities with me. Such as play cards, DnD, and video games. he has helped me through tough times or not so tough times but he has helped me. He is a responsible, good-hearted person, and also a serious side to him. My friend is a serous person when he acts. He will not hesitate to be real around anyone. He will not care if he hurts your feelings. he will tell you how it is. I try to be that way to other people because I'm also a serious person. I'm not afraid to be real either.

My Father Is My Hero: An Epitome of Dedication, Humility, and Compassion

In the tapestry of my life, my father is the thread that weaves together values of dedication, humility, and compassion. He is not just a parent but my hero, an extraordinary figure whose influence has shaped the person I am today. His life story is a testament to the power of hard work, kindness, and selflessness.

My father’s journey began with a remarkable sense of obedience and determination, qualities instilled in him from a young age. His parents, my grandparents, often regale us with tales of his unswerving commitment to his studies and the goals he set for himself. Whether it was acing his exams or excelling in sports, he constantly worked toward his objectives. This determination left an indelible mark on his character and inspired not only his siblings but also his peers.

Yet, his brilliance in academics and sports was only part of the story. What truly set my father apart was his compassionate nature. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to fellow students, making him a beloved figure in his school. This sense of responsibility extended to his family, where he actively participated in household chores, helping my grandmother without hesitation. These actions instilled in him a profound understanding of the importance of contributing to family well-being.

My father’s dedication to education and commitment to hard work were mirrored in his pursuit of a better life for our family. Despite facing numerous challenges, he continued to strive for excellence. His relentless dedication to his work served as a shining example, demonstrating that success was attainable through perseverance and determination. His career achievements were a source of pride for our family, and we learned from him the importance of setting and working toward our goals.

However, what sets my father apart is his belief in leading a simple life. Despite the means to afford a luxurious lifestyle, he chooses to live in a modest flat. His values of contentment and minimalism are lessons he imparts to us daily. He teaches us that happiness is not found in material possessions but in the simplicity of life and the richness of experiences. These values have shaped our worldview and instilled in us a profound appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

One of the most awe-inspiring facets of my father’s character is his commitment to giving back to society. He dedicates a significant portion of his earnings to social work. He actively participates in a non-profit organization dedicated to providing food and education to underprivileged children. Every Saturday, he selflessly spends his time with these children, distributing not only food but also love and care. His actions reflect a broader lesson: that success is not solely measured by personal achievements but by the positive impact one can make in the lives of others. His dedication to social work has instilled in us a deep sense of responsibility to contribute to our community and help those in need.

In conclusion, my father is not just a parent but an embodiment of dedication, humility, and compassion. He is my hero, an inspiring figure who has profoundly influenced my life and the lives of our family. His unwavering support, his dedication to his responsibilities, and his compassionate heart make him the true hero in my life. His life story and values inspire us to become better human beings, to live a simple yet fulfilling life, and to remember the importance of giving back to society. 500 Words Essay on My Father Is My Hero

In the vast panorama of human relationships, the bond between a father and his child holds a special place. It is a bond that transcends the mundane, reaching into the realm of the profound. My father, an embodiment of strength, wisdom, and love, is my hero. His life, a testament to resilience and dedication, has been my guiding light, illuminating my path towards growth and self-discovery.

My Father, the Pillar of Strength

My father’s resilience in the face of adversity is awe-inspiring. He grew up in an impoverished family, where every day was a struggle for survival. Yet, instead of succumbing to despair, he used these challenges as stepping stones towards a better future. His unwavering determination and relentless pursuit of his dreams taught me the importance of resilience. He showed me that life’s adversities are not roadblocks but stepping stones towards success.

Through his guidance, I learned to appreciate the beauty of questioning, the thrill of discovery, and the joy of learning.

My Father, the Embodiment of Love

Despite his many roles – a provider, a mentor, a protector – my father’s most significant role has been that of a loving parent. His love is not the ostentatious kind, filled with grand gestures and extravagant gifts. Instead, it is a quiet, steady flame that warms and illuminates. His love is seen in his sacrifices, his patience, and his unwavering faith in my potential. It’s a love that empowers, nurtures, and inspires.

My Father, My Hero

A hero is someone who inspires through their actions, someone who leads by example, and someone who makes a difference. My father, with his strength, wisdom, and love, fits this definition perfectly. He is my hero, not because he is infallible, but because he taught me that it is our imperfections that make us human. He is my hero, not because he never fell, but because he always got back up. He is my hero, not because he achieved great things, but because he showed me that the journey is more important than the destination.

In the grand narrative of my life, my father is the hero who continues to inspire and guide me. His life, a symphony of strength, wisdom, and love, resonates within me, shaping my thoughts, my actions, and my dreams. As I navigate the labyrinth of life, I am grateful for the beacon that is my father, my hero.

My Story Was Told in ‘Hotel Rwanda.’ Here’s What I Want the World to Know Now.

hero in my life essay

By Paul Rusesabagina

Mr. Rusesabagina is the president and founder of the Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation.

This week, the world will again turn its eyes toward Rwanda. April 6 marks 30 years since the start of one of the most horrific events in modern history, the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Nearer in time but not unrelated, it has been just over one year since I left Rwanda and returned to the United States, released from prison after 939 days in captivity .

I have not yet spoken at length about what those years in a Rwandan prison were like, or about the daily reality for Rwandan political prisoners who, like me, found themselves behind bars for exercising their freedom of expression. It has been a long year of physical and emotional recovery that has allowed me finally to put pen to paper again, and I expect the healing process will last the rest of my life.

The experience of being kidnapped, tortured, imprisoned and silenced by those whom I had used my voice to criticize is difficult to describe. At many times during my captivity I believed I would be silenced for good, and that I would never again see my wife, my children and my grandchildren. But today I am a free man. And as we face this important and difficult milestone, I feel grateful to be able to join with my fellow Rwandans and reflect on what, if anything, we can take from this terrible chapter of our shared history.

For me and for so many Rwandans, the 1994 genocide remains the focal point of my life. The months of April to July 1994 were a time of incomprehensible horror, in which our beautiful country was dragged into hell by brutal violence and killings on a scale previously unimaginable. At some points in the crisis, as many as 10,000 people were butchered in a day, primarily by machetes and other crude weapons. Even now, three decades later, and even for those of us who saw the killings firsthand, it is impossible to process the depravity and the gravity of the loss.

At the time, I was the manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, where I tried to protect not only my own young family but also the 1,268 people who sought shelter within the walls of the hotel. Their bravery, and our daily macabre dance with death, became the backdrop of the 2004 film “Hotel Rwanda.” This film brought to the screen our compromising, negotiating and begging with our would-be executioners to try to keep the waiting militia at bay.

This experience is still difficult for each one of us to relive. I am grateful to have survived it. I am also grateful for the two personal lessons I decided to take from living through this atrocity. The first: Never, ever, ever give up. This is what sustained me when I was kidnapped in August 2020 by an operative of the Rwandan intelligence services and wrongfully detained in Rwanda on charges of terrorism and other crimes, along with others who were critical of the current government. The second: Words are our most effective weapons when we are confronted by those who seek to oppress and victimize others.

Both of these lessons are on my mind today, as the world considers the state of Rwanda 30 years after the genocide brought us to our knees.

Now Rwanda is viewed by many nations as an important global partner — a partner that has bravely rebuilt itself into a thriving and inclusive modern society. But it is increasingly difficult to remain blind to the jailing — and even the disappearances and killings — of those who criticize or challenge the Rwandan government’s power. Independent journalists, human rights advocates and opposition political parties are nearly absent from the landscape of Rwandan civil society today. This is not a reconciled or inclusive society; it is an authoritarian state.

The rest of the world should stop looking the other way. As a global community, we are being confronted with the rise of authoritarianism and the co-opting of institutions meant to support basic liberties, such as the freedom of press, speech and association. Throughout the world, politics is being used as a tool to promote division, and in some cases violence, in order to gain or maintain power. We continue to see the fundamental human rights that we fought so hard for being upheld only for certain people in certain circumstances. And, as is so often the case, the vulnerable members of society are the ones who pay the greatest price. Rwanda, which today lacks strong democratic institutions and free and fair elections, is not immune to these problems.

I believe that it becomes the role of those of us who have been empowered by our circumstances to speak out, to act as a check on abuses of power and to resist the erosion of our fundamental rights. It is imperative to speak against those who seek to reduce civic space and basic freedoms for their own political gain, choose to fuel violence for profit and openly engage in brutal wars for material wealth. This becomes our work, even if speaking out puts us in the direct line of fire, as it has for me and my family.

Thirty years on from the Rwandan genocide, there is still cause for hope. We can see young Rwandans all over the world continuing to advocate genuine reconciliation and the building of a democratic Rwanda, despite the overt risks of doing so. We can see the bravery and unfailing resolve of the women of Iran and Afghanistan and those who support them. We can see the open resistance of people in Myanmar, Ukraine, Syria and Sudan standing up to tyranny and oppression. Their courage reminds us that it is our collective duty to counter autocratic regimes and policies and promote equality and, above all, peace.

This is my prayer, and hope, for the next 30 years, for Rwanda and beyond.

Paul Rusesabagina served as manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali during the Rwandan genocide, a story later told in the film “Hotel Rwanda.” In 2005, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush. He is the president and founder of the Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation.

All might’s evil copy revealed in epic my hero academia movie 4 trailer.

An unlikely villain with All Might's appearance takes center stage in My Hero Academia's fourth movie, and he might be one of the strongest yet.

  • The new My Hero Academia movie features a villain named Dark Might resembling All Might.
  • The film takes place after the Paranormal Liberation arc with heroes facing distrust.
  • The plot centers around heroes investigating a mysterious fortress and battling the evil doppelganger of All Might.

My Hero Academia 's fourth season is on its way, and ahead of its summer premiere, a new trailer was revealed that showed the main villain, a villain using All Might's appearance, and plot. The series' movies have always been an action and animation spectacle, and it seems the producers have turned up the notch for the upcoming film with a surprising antagonist.

The official X/Twitter account of the My Hero Academia movies posted a short promotional video of the movie titled "You're Next".

Class 1-A and the pro heroes are taking on yet another villain, and this time, it is a look-alike of All Might called Dark Might. Although his powers and motivations are unknown, he might give Deku his biggest challenge yet , even more so than the powerful villains such as Wolfram that he had to take on.

Every My Hero Academia Movie In Order (And The Best Way To Watch Them)

All might's evil version comes to real life, produced by studio bones; based on the original manga by kohei horikoshi.

My Hero Academia: You're Next will take place after the Paranormal Liberation arc, in a society that distrusts heroes after the events of the war between the villains and the heroes. A mysterious giant fortress appears out of nowhere and swallows up many civilians, and the heroes investigate the cause. However, the perpetrator shocks them to their core: a man who looks and sounds exactly like the Symbol of Peace, All Might, and his accomplices. And thus ensues another epic battle that is a must-watch at the cinemas.

Based on the trailers, it seems that Dark Might looks up to All Might and misinterprets his message after defeating One For All at Kamino, thinking the number one hero was referring to him when he was actually talking about Midoriya. Furthermore, his power seems to involve capturing people and using their quirks or life energy to boost his powers and achieve physicality almost on par with All Might . Given that he easily grabbed Midoriya, who has multiple quirks, his battle strength must be off the charts, and will present a tough battle for the heroes.

2024 has been a great year for My Hero Academia , with the manga having 100 million copies in circulation and season 7 of the anime beginning in May. This movie will see the young hero take on a replica of his master, and while it won't be canon, like the other films in the series, it has an interesting premise that brings much of the canon story into perspective. The My Hero Academia movies have always been a great success, with the third film earning approximately $50 million, and they are always presented with incredible visuals and animation, which makes this upcoming one all the more thrilling.

My Hero Academia

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.

Science writer David Baron witnesses his first total solar eclipse in Aruba, 1998. He says seeing one is "like you've left the solar system and are looking back from some other world."

David Baron can pinpoint the first time he got addicted to chasing total solar eclipses, when the moon completely covers up the sun. It was 1998 and he was on the Caribbean island of Aruba. "It changed my life. It was the most spectacular thing I'd ever seen," he says.

Baron, author of the 2017 book American Eclipse: A Nation's Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World , wants others to witness its majesty too. On April 8, millions of people across North America will get that chance — a total solar eclipse will appear in the sky. Baron promises it will be a surreal, otherworldly experience. "It's like you've left the solar system and are looking back from some other world."

Baron, who is a former NPR science reporter, talks to Life Kit about what to expect when viewing a total solar eclipse, including the sensations you may feel and the strange lighting effects in the sky. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Baron views the beginning of a solar eclipse with friends in Western Australia in 2023. Baron says getting to see the solar corona during a total eclipse is "the most dazzling sight in the heavens."

What does it feel like to experience a total solar eclipse — those few precious minutes when the moon completely covers up the sun?

It is beautiful and absolutely magnificent. It comes on all of a sudden. As soon as the moon blocks the last rays of the sun, you're plunged into this weird twilight in the middle of the day. You look up and the blue sky has been torn away. On any given day, the blue sky overhead acts as a screen that keeps us from seeing what's in space. And suddenly that's gone. So you can look into the middle of the solar system and see the sun and the planets together.

Can you tell me about the sounds and the emotions you're feeling?

A total solar eclipse is so much more than something you just see with your eyes. It's something you experience with your whole body. [With the drop in sunlight], birds will be going crazy. Crickets may be chirping. If you're around other people, they're going to be screaming and crying [with all their emotions from seeing the eclipse]. The air temperature drops because the sunlight suddenly turns off. And you're immersed in the moon's shadow. It doesn't feel real.

Everything you need to know about solar eclipse glasses before April 8

Everything you need to know about solar eclipse glasses before April 8

In your 2017 Ted Talk , you said you felt like your eyesight was failing in the moments before totality. Can you go into that a little more?

The lighting effects are very weird. Before you get to the total eclipse, you have a progressive partial eclipse as the moon slowly covers the sun. So over the course of an hour [or so], the sunlight will be very slowly dimming. It's as if you're in a room in a house and someone is very slowly turning down the dimmer switch. For most of that time your eyes are adjusting and you don't notice it. But then there's a point at which the light's getting so dim that your eyes can't adjust, and weird things happen. Your eyes are less able to see color. It's as if the landscape is losing its color. Also there's an effect where the shadows get very strange.

You see these crescents on the ground.

There are two things that happen. One is if you look under a tree, the spaces between leaves or branches will act as pinhole projectors. So you'll see tiny little crescents everywhere. But there's another effect. As the sun goes from this big orb in the sky to something much smaller, shadows grow sharper. As you're nearing the total eclipse, if you have the sun behind you and you look at your shadow on the ground, you might see individual hairs on your head. It's just very odd.

Some people might say that seeing the partial eclipse is just as good. They don't need to go to the path of totality.

A partial solar eclipse is a very interesting experience. If you're in an area where you see a deep partial eclipse, the sun will become a crescent like the moon. You can only look at it with eye protection. Don't look at it with the naked eye . The light can get eerie. It's fun, but it is not a thousandth as good as a total eclipse.

A total eclipse is a fundamentally different experience, because it's only when the moon completely blocks the sun that you can actually take off the eclipse glasses and look with the naked eye at the sun.

And you will see a sun you've never seen before. That bright surface is gone. What you're actually looking at is the sun's outer atmosphere, the solar corona. It's the most dazzling sight in the heavens. It's this beautiful textured thing. It looks sort of like a wreath or a crown made out of tinsel or strands of silk. It shimmers in space. The shape is constantly changing. And you will only see that if you're in the path of the total eclipse.

Watching a solar eclipse without the right filters can cause eye damage. Here's why

Shots - Health News

Watching a solar eclipse without the right filters can cause eye damage. here's why.

So looking at a partial eclipse is not the same?

It is not at all the same. Drive those few miles. Get into the path of totality.

This is really your chance to see a total eclipse. The next one isn't happening across the U.S. for another 20 years.

The next significant total solar eclipse in the United States won't be until 2045. That one will go from California to Florida and will cross my home state of Colorado. I've got it on my calendar.

CEOs, Is Your Business Strategy Bold Enough?

hero in my life essay

In a global survey, 45% of CEOs said they don’t think their companies would survive more than a decade on their current path.

There has never been a more difficult time to be a CEO — the urgency for bold and transformative leadership echoes louder than ever. In an environment where the stakes are high and the competitive landscape is rapidly evolving, complacency is a risk few can afford. In PwC’s 27th Annual Global CEO Survey, 45% of CEOs said they do not believe their companies would survive more than a decade if they remain on their current path. This means that a large number of companies are possibly at risk of being lapped by competitors or disruptors. CEOs need to better understand whether their strategy is bold enough to position them for future growth. This article covers four actions that CEOs should be taking now. Business model reinvention demands courage, but with the right team willing to make bold moves, you can propel your company to new and unimagined heights.

Not long ago, I had a difficult conversation with a CEO whom I also consider to be a friend. He operates in a highly competitive industry and shared how proud he was of his strategic agenda and how hard his team was pushing to bring their strategy to life. The team was fatigued, but energized by the progress they were seeing. In many ways, this CEO was right to be proud, as his company was doing well in several important areas. However, in observing other companies, including his competitors, and spending time with his organization, we knew they were falling behind in growth, efficiency, scalability, and regulatory positioning. I took the opportunity to both acknowledge what I thought was working well and share the harder message that we believed they were falling behind. Needless to say, it was a challenging conversation.

Train Network Using Custom Training Loop

This example shows how to train a network that classifies handwritten digits with a custom learning rate schedule.

You can train most types of neural networks using the trainnet and trainingOptions functions. If the trainingOptions function does not provide the options you need (for example, a custom learning rate schedule), then you can define your own custom training loop using dlarray and dlnetwork objects for automatic differentiation. For an example showing how to retrain a pretrained deep learning network using the trainnet function, see Retrain Neural Network to Classify New Images .

Training a deep neural network is an optimization task. By considering a neural network as a function f ( X ; θ ) , where X is the network input, and θ is the set of learnable parameters, you can optimize θ so that it minimizes some loss value based on the training data. For example, optimize the learnable parameters θ such that for a given inputs X with a corresponding targets T , they minimize the error between the predictions Y = f ( X ; θ ) and T .

The loss function used depends on the type of task. For example:

For classification tasks, you can minimize the cross entropy error between the predictions and targets.

For regression tasks, you can minimize the mean squared error between the predictions and targets.

You can optimize the objective using gradient descent: minimize the loss L by iteratively updating the learnable parameters θ by taking steps towards the minimum using the gradients of the loss with respect to the learnable parameters. Gradient descent algorithms typically update the learnable parameters by using a variant of an update step of the form θ t + 1 = θ t - ρ ∇ L , where t is the iteration number, ρ is the learning rate, and ∇ L denotes the gradients (the derivatives of the loss with respect to the learnable parameters).

This example trains a network to classify handwritten digits with the time-based decay learning rate schedule: for each iteration, the solver uses the learning rate given by ρ t = ρ 0 1 + k   t , where t is the iteration number, ρ 0 is the initial learning rate, and k is the decay.

Load Training Data

Load the digits data as an image datastore using the imageDatastore function and specify the folder containing the image data.

Partition the data into training and validation sets. Set aside 10% of the data for validation using the splitEachLabel function.

The network used in this example requires input images of size 28-by-28-by-1. To automatically resize the training images, use an augmented image datastore. Specify additional augmentation operations to perform on the training images: randomly translate the images up to 5 pixels in the horizontal and vertical axes. Data augmentation helps prevent the network from overfitting and memorizing the exact details of the training images.

To automatically resize the validation images without performing further data augmentation, use an augmented image datastore without specifying any additional preprocessing operations.

Determine the number of classes in the training data.

Define Network

Define the network for image classification.

For image input, specify an image input layer with input size matching the training data.

Do not normalize the image input, set the Normalization option of the input layer to "none" .

Specify three convolution-batchnorm-ReLU blocks.

Pad the input to the convolution layers such that the output has the same size by setting the Padding option to "same" .

For the first convolution layer specify 20 filters of size 5. For the remaining convolution layers specify 20 filters of size 3.

For classification, specify a fully connected layer with size matching the number of classes

To map the output to probabilities, include a softmax layer.

When training a network using a custom training loop, do not include an output layer.

Create a dlnetwork object from the layer array.

Define Model Loss Function

Create the function modelLoss , listed in the Model Loss Function section of the example, that takes as input the dlnetwork object, a mini-batch of input data with corresponding targets, and returns the loss, the gradients of the loss with respect to the learnable parameters, and the network state.

Specify Training Options

Train for ten epochs with a mini-batch size of 128.

Specify the options for SGDM optimization. Specify an initial learn rate of 0.01 with a decay of 0.01, and momentum 0.9.

Train Model

Create a minibatchqueue object that processes and manages mini-batches of images during training. For each mini-batch:

Use the custom mini-batch preprocessing function preprocessMiniBatch (defined at the end of this example) to convert the labels to one-hot encoded variables.

Format the image data with the dimension labels "SSCB" (spatial, spatial, channel, batch). By default, the minibatchqueue object converts the data to dlarray objects with underlying type single . Do not format the class labels.

Discard partial mini-batches.

Train on a GPU if one is available. By default, the minibatchqueue object converts each output to a gpuArray if a GPU is available. Using a GPU requires Parallel Computing Toolbox™ and a supported GPU device. For information on supported devices, see GPU Computing Requirements (Parallel Computing Toolbox) .

Initialize the velocity parameter for the SGDM solver.

Calculate the total number of iterations for the training progress monitor.

Initialize the TrainingProgressMonitor object. Because the timer starts when you create the monitor object, make sure that you create the object close to the training loop.

Train the network using a custom training loop. For each epoch, shuffle the data and loop over mini-batches of data. For each mini-batch:

Evaluate the model loss, gradients, and state using the dlfeval and modelLoss functions and update the network state.

Determine the learning rate for the time-based decay learning rate schedule.

Update the network parameters using the sgdmupdate function.

Update the loss, learn rate, and epoch values in the training progress monitor.

Stop if the Stop property is true. The Stop property value of the TrainingProgressMonitor object changes to true when you click the Stop button.

assignment neural network matlab

Test the classification accuracy of the model by comparing the predictions on the validation set with the true labels.

After training, making predictions on new data does not require the labels. Create minibatchqueue object containing only the predictors of the test data:

To ignore the labels for testing, set the number of outputs of the mini-batch queue to 1.

Specify the same mini-batch size used for training.

Preprocess the predictors using the preprocessMiniBatchPredictors function, listed at the end of the example.

For the single output of the datastore, specify the mini-batch format "SSCB" (spatial, spatial, channel, batch).

Loop over the mini-batches and classify the images using modelPredictions function, listed at the end of the example.

Evaluate the classification accuracy.

Visualize the predictions in a confusion chart.

assignment neural network matlab

Large values on the diagonal indicate accurate predictions for the corresponding class. Large values on the off-diagonal indicate strong confusion between the corresponding classes.

Supporting Functions

Model loss function.

The modelLoss function takes a dlnetwork object net , a mini-batch of input data X with corresponding targets T and returns the loss, the gradients of the loss with respect to the learnable parameters in net , and the network state. To compute the gradients automatically, use the dlgradient function.

Model Predictions Function

The modelPredictions function takes a dlnetwork object net , a minibatchqueue of input data mbq , and the network classes, and computes the model predictions by iterating over all data in the minibatchqueue object. The function uses the onehotdecode function to find the predicted class with the highest score.

Mini Batch Preprocessing Function

The preprocessMiniBatch function preprocesses a mini-batch of predictors and labels using the following steps:

Preprocess the images using the preprocessMiniBatchPredictors function.

Extract the label data from the incoming cell array and concatenate into a categorical array along the second dimension.

One-hot encode the categorical labels into numeric arrays. Encoding into the first dimension produces an encoded array that matches the shape of the network output.

Mini-Batch Predictors Preprocessing Function

The preprocessMiniBatchPredictors function preprocesses a mini-batch of predictors by extracting the image data from the input cell array and concatenate into a numeric array. For grayscale input, concatenating over the fourth dimension adds a third dimension to each image, to use as a singleton channel dimension.

Divide Data for Optimal Neural Network Training

This topic presents part of a typical multilayer network workflow. For more information and other steps, see Multilayer Shallow Neural Networks and Backpropagation Training .

When training multilayer networks, the general practice is to first divide the data into three subsets. The first subset is the training set, which is used for computing the gradient and updating the network weights and biases. The second subset is the validation set. The error on the validation set is monitored during the training process. The validation error normally decreases during the initial phase of training, as does the training set error. However, when the network begins to overfit the data, the error on the validation set typically begins to rise. The network weights and biases are saved at the minimum of the validation set error. This technique is discussed in more detail in Improve Shallow Neural Network Generalization and Avoid Overfitting .

The test set error is not used during training, but it is used to compare different models. It is also useful to plot the test set error during the training process. If the error on the test set reaches a minimum at a significantly different iteration number than the validation set error, this might indicate a poor division of the data set.

There are four functions provided for dividing data into training, validation and test sets. They are dividerand (the default), divideblock , divideint , and divideind . The data division is normally performed automatically when you train the network.

You can access or change the division function for your network with this property:

Each of the division functions takes parameters that customize its behavior. These values are stored and can be changed with the following network property:

The divide function is accessed automatically whenever the network is trained, and is used to divide the data into training, validation and testing subsets. If net.divideFcn is set to ' dividerand ' (the default), then the data is randomly divided into the three subsets using the division parameters net.divideParam.trainRatio , net.divideParam.valRatio , and net.divideParam.testRatio . The fraction of data that is placed in the training set is trainRatio /( trainRatio+valRatio+testRatio ), with a similar formula for the other two sets. The default ratios for training, testing and validation are 0.7, 0.15 and 0.15, respectively.

If net.divideFcn is set to ' divideblock ' , then the data is divided into three subsets using three contiguous blocks of the original data set (training taking the first block, validation the second and testing the third). The fraction of the original data that goes into each subset is determined by the same three division parameters used for dividerand .

If net.divideFcn is set to ' divideint ' , then the data is divided by an interleaved method, as in dealing a deck of cards. It is done so that different percentages of data go into the three subsets. The fraction of the original data that goes into each subset is determined by the same three division parameters used for dividerand .

When net.divideFcn is set to ' divideind ' , the data is divided by index. The indices for the three subsets are defined by the division parameters net.divideParam.trainInd , net.divideParam.valInd and net.divideParam.testInd . The default assignment for these indices is the null array, so you must set the indices when using this option.

Best Practices and Tips for MATLAB Assignments on Deep Learning

Best practices and practical advice can greatly improve the quality and effectiveness of work when working on deep learning assignments in MATLAB. In order to ensure that the input data is correctly formatted and scaled before feeding it into the neural network, data preprocessing is essential. Data normalization, augmentation, and feature extraction are crucial steps in enhancing model performance, and MATLAB offers a variety of functions for these tasks. Another crucial component of deep learning assignments is hyperparameter tuning. To find the best configuration for their particular task, researchers should test out various learning rates, batch sizes, and activation functions. The Global Optimisation Toolbox in MATLAB can be especially useful in this situation. Regularisation strategies like L1 and L2 regularisation as well as dropout should be used to avoid overfitting. Regularisation enhances the model's ability to generalize and enhances its performance on new data. Last but not least, researchers can detect potential problems early on and make necessary adjustments thanks to continuous monitoring and visualization of the training process using MATLAB's built-in tools, leading to more successful and effective deep learning assignments.

Data Preprocessing and Augmentation

A deep learning model must be properly preprocessed before being fed data. Data preprocessing functions in MATLAB include normalization, resizing, and data augmentation. The input data is scaled to a standard range during normalization to stop some features from overpowering the learning process. In order for the model to process data samples uniformly, resizing makes sure that each sample has the same dimensions. Techniques for enhancing data, such as flipping or rotating images, can help expand the training set and enhance the generalization of the model. The model becomes more robust and can handle various testing scenarios by including variations in the training data. In order to create a trustworthy and effective deep learning model, proper data preprocessing and augmentation are essential.

Hyperparameter Tuning

Hyperparameters like learning rate, batch size, and number of hidden units have a significant impact on how well deep learning models perform. Researchers can find the best set of hyperparameters for their particular tasks with the aid of MATLAB's tools for hyperparameter tuning, like the Global Optimisation Toolbox. An essential step in enhancing the model's functionality and generalizability is hyperparameter tuning. Researchers can find the best configuration that produces the highest accuracy on the validation set by methodically examining various combinations of hyperparameters. This procedure is streamlined by the optimization algorithms in MATLAB, saving time and effort in determining the appropriate hyperparameter values. Researchers can improve their models' ability to generalize to new data and increase their dependability for practical applications by fine-tuning their hyperparameters.

Regularization and Dropout

Regularisation methods like L1 and L2 regularisation and dropout are frequently used to avoid overfitting. When a model gets too complicated and picks up noise from training data, it is said to overfit, which causes it to perform poorly on new data. Large weights are penalized by regularisation, which encourages the model to concentrate on important features and generalize more effectively. The adaptable way that these techniques are implemented in MATLAB enables users to improve the generalization and robustness of their models. Researchers can strike a balance between preventing overfitting and maintaining the model's ability to learn significant patterns by varying the regularisation strength. Another regularisation technique is a dropout, whereby random neurons are momentarily removed from the model during training to avoid the model overly depending on any particular neurons and to improve generalization. In order to guarantee the model's dependability and flexibility with different datasets, regularisation, and dropout must be used properly.

In conclusion, master's students pursuing machine learning assignments will find the integration of Deep Learning and Neural Networks with MATLAB to be an exciting journey. Students can successfully complete challenging tasks and contribute to cutting-edge research in a variety of fields by utilizing MATLAB's intuitive interface and extensive pre-trained models. Natural language processing, autonomous vehicles, and healthcare are just a few of the fields where MATLAB's versatility makes it possible to handle image and textual data with ease. Master's students who use this MATLAB approach will not only improve their academic performance but also arm themselves with useful skills that will help them succeed in their future careers. They are in a position to revolutionize machine learning and have a significant impact on the field of artificial intelligence thanks to the strength of Deep Learning and Neural Networks.
