Tipi di barche a vela: modelli e varianti

Quando si parla di barche a vela esistono 2 tipi di barche in base al numero di scafi - monoscafo e multiscafo. Leggi l'articolo per scoprire le differenze tra di loro.

Esistono diverse varianti di barche a vela da considerare quando si procede all'acquisto. Infatti, non esiste un solo modello di barca a vela, ma ce n'è una varietà piuttosto ampia. Da specificare che più di "quale tipo" di barca, si dovrebbe parlare del "tipo di armo".

In gergo marinaresco il termine armare significa predisporre una barca per la navigazione. Per Tipo di Armo, quindi, parliamo dell’insieme delle attrezzature necessarie alla navigazione, in particolare il numero di alberi e vele di cui è disposta una barca.

Altra cosa da considerare, quando si parla di barche a vela, è che esistono 2 tipi di imbarcazioni in base al numero di scafi.

Di questa categoria fanno parte tutte quelle barche a vela composte da un solo scafo. Il monoscafo è il modello di imbarcazione che si associa più frequentemente con questo tipo di barca e si caratterizza dall’uso di vele triangolari. La barca a vela a monoscafo è un ottimo compromesso tra comfort e prestazioni una volta impensabile. Grazie ai materiali con cui viene realizzata leggeri e performanti, e alle nuove tecnologie di progettazione e vele sempre più leggere ed efficienti, questo tipo di imbarcazioni permettono di navigare per vari giorni. Un esempio di barca a vela performante viene dato dal cantiere navale Beneteau Oceanis , barche sì da crociera, ma capaci di esprimere prestazioni che soddisfano anche chi ama navigare a vela in modo più spinto, nonostante sia in viaggio con la famiglia.

Tra i differenti tipi di barche a vela, per vela e alberi, troviamo i multiscafi. I catamarani sono tra i multiscafi più noti e conosciuti che stanno prendendo sempre più piede soprattutto per chi ama la comodità e il lusso. Un esempio di catamarano che vediamo sempre più nei mari italiani è del cantiere Lagoon Catamaran che riesce a soddisfare molte esigenze, soprattutto di chi vuole godere di una lunga vacanza in mare e avere a disposizione una casa galleggiante.

Tipi di vela

Oltre al monoscafo e al multiscafo le barche a vela si distinguono per altre caratteristiche, come i tipi e il numero di alberi e vele. Esistono diversi tipi di vele, vediamo quali sono:

• CAT. Questo tipo di armo ha come vela un’unica randa e un albero verso prua.
• TARCHIA. Anche qui l’armo ha un albero a prua, ma con la randa a tarchia.
• SLOOP. Lo sloop è costituito da un albero, una randa e una vela di prua.
• CUTTER. Il cutter è un tipo di barca che ha un albero con vela aurica e un albero con fiocco.
• YAWL. Lo yawl ha due alberi: l’albero di Maestra è il più grande, a prua; L’albero di Mezzana è più basso, a poppa.
• KETCH. Anche il Ketch ha due alberi, di Maestra quello più a prua e di Mezzana quello verso poppa. L’unica differenza sta nella posizione dell’asse del timone.

• CARAVELLA. Questa Imbarcazione è tra le più antiche, basti pensare alle 3 caravelle di Cristoforo Colombo. La caravella era utilizzata, infatti, principalmente per esplorazioni. Armata da 1 a 3 alberi e con Vela Latina o Vele Quadre, in base al numero di alberi
• BRIGANTINO. Il brigantino può avere diversi armi, a seconda della posizione dell’albero di maestra o delle vele utilizzate.
• VELIERO. Il veliero stava a indicare una nave a tre alberi più bompresso e vele quadre.
• CLIPPER. Questo tipo di imbarcazione veniva utilizzata soprattutto verso la fine del 1800. Il Clipper è dotata di 3 alberi, anche più e una gran numero di vele.
• GALEONE. Il galeone è invece un veliero da guerra molto diffuso tra il 1500 e il 1600, armato con 3-5 alberi.

Da quello che abbiamo potuto notare, ci sono diversi tipi di imbarcazioni a vela, ma è necessario scegliere in base ai propri bisogni, conoscendo ciascuna categoria. Capire qual è lo scopo e il motivo per cui vogliamo scegliere quel determinato tipo di barca a vela.

IL VELIERO SAN NICOLÒ

Ammirare il Lago di Garda da una prospettiva eccezionale e privilegiata, salire a bordo di un pezzo di storia che continua imperterrito a solcare maestosamente le luminose acque del Benaco: questo è il Veliero San Nicolò, emblema e simbolo incontrastato della navigazione sul Lago di Garda.

Varato l’8 dicembre del 1925 a Bardolino, in origine fu utilizzato per esigenze economiche e produttive. Trasportò merce, pietre per costruire porti, legname, derrate alimentari e "stanghe", lunghi pali utilizzati per legare le viti. Realizzato completamente in legno, è il più antico ketch d’epoca (imbarcazione a vela a due alberi) e l’ultimo che naviga sul lago. Opera del cantiere Guarnati e commissionato dai fratelli Giuseppe e Giovanni Donà, fu battezzato "San Nicolò" in omaggio al patrono del paese.

Un’escursione sul Veliero San Nicolò è un tuffo nella storia del territorio e della tradizione velistica benacense. Passato e presente si fondono regalando agli ospiti una scenografia d’altri tempi con tutte le comodità di un’imbarcazione modernamente attrezzata con musica stereo, bar e toilette. Accoglienza, stile ed armonia sono gli elementi peculiari del Veliero San Nicolò che si distingue per uno stile classico, sobrio ed elegante. Performance & Range

Vela is built with a wood hull and wood superstructure. Vela comfortably cruises at 10 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 14 knots.

Onboard Vela has a range of toys and accessories to keep you and your guests entertained on the water throughout your stay. Make diving a focal point of your charter vacation, with PADI certified professionals and a dive compressor available alongside traditional scuba diving equipment. Black Pearl, la vera storia della più grande barca a vela al mondo

Il nome di questa nave, Black Pearl, è impegnativo, La Perla Nera , proprio come quella di Jack Sparrow di Pirati dei Caraibi.

Ma sono impegnative anche le sue dimensioni, 106,7 metri fuori tutto , che ne fanno la più lunga di sempre dietro solo alla famosa A , lunga 142 metri, disegnata da Philippe Stark, ma che non può essere ritenuta una vera barca a vela, non solo per motivi puramente stilistici (… non è che ci assomigli molto), ma anche per motivi burocratici, in quanto registrata come “ sail-assisted motor yacht “.

Ma piuttosto impegnativa, e complicata, è anche la storia della sua nascita. Certa è la maternità, è stata realizzata in acciaio (scafo) e alluminio (le sovrastrutture) dalla olandese Oceanco , specializzata in megayacht a vela e a motore, e ufficialmente consegnata poche settimane fa.

Il progetto nasce però nel 2012 e la barca ha toccato l’acqua a fine 2016 . Da allora ad oggi una sconfinata serie di collaudi e messe a punto.

“ Nel 2012 – racconta lo studio italiano responsabile del design di interni ed esterni, Nuvolari Lenard – siamo stati presentati all’armatore di Black Pearl da Moran Yacht e Ship , ben noto broker di Fort Lauderdale e poi ingaggiati per provvedere al design di interni ed esterni, selezionati al termine di una selezione tra i più importanti yacht designer al mondo “.

Tutto semplice, quindi? Non così tanto, perché Black Pearl nasce sulle ceneri di un precedente progetto : “All’inzio del nostro progetto abbiamo cominciato a lavorare sulla “naval platform” di un 98 metri sviluppato anni primi, ai fini di una proposta, da un altro studio di progettazione con cui l’armatore non aveva più rapporti” . La “ naval platform ” comprende tutti i dati e i progetti relativi agli aspetti tecnici di uno yacht.

Ma la sua realizzazione è opera anche di molte altre menti: lo scafo è stato infatti realizzato da Dykstra Naval Architets , che si è occupato anche dello spettacolare armo DynaRig a tre alberi in carbonio da 70 metri di altezza .

Le vele, per un totale di 2.700 metri quadrati , possono essere avvolte o spiegate (spingendo dei semplici bottoni) in 7 minuti. 

Ha partecipato al progetto anche BMT Nigel Gee che ha invece provveduto a mettere a punto un sofisticato sistema di propulsione ibrida, oltre ad altri impianti di bordo.

Degli interni di Black Pearl non si hanno immagini, ma sono anche loro frutto della creatività di Nuvolari Lenard, in particolare di  Valentina Zannier , Partner e Head of Interior Design dello studio veneziano, con cui ha collaborato il francese Gerard Villate che ha curato alcuni dettagli. Lo stile? Luigi XVI , con moltissimi richiami all’ Art Deco . Il tutto, anche qui, realizzato in collaborazione tra i designer e l’armatore.

Black Pearl in sala macchine ha due MTU da 12 cilindri a V e 2.000 CV di potenza ciascuno può raggiungere i 17,5 nodi di velocità massima .

ALMYRA II, a 164’ (50m) Perini Navi offers the classical elements of a pedigree yacht enhanced by a contemporary multi-million-dollar refit. ALMYRA II combines high-performance racing with the comfort of an ocean cruiser. Built with 3Di Ocean 700 sails, designed for long-distance blue water cruising, she is the only Perini Navi with this technology in Greece. CAPTAIN Vassilis holds a Captain Class A’ Diploma and has twenty seven years experience on the sea. He started working in his early twenties on motor vessels as an apprentice deck officer cruising worldwide with general cargo and bulk carriers. He became the master on a sailing yacht after receiving his Captain Class B’ Diploma and stayed in that position for almost ten years, and holding the position of Operations Manager for a fleet of commercial vessels of various categories including sailing yachts, racing yachts, classic sailing boats, near-coastal cruising boats and off shore motor boats. He expanded his solid practical knowledge whilst on several sailing yachts and motor yachts sailing Greece. He has impressively participated and won multiple classic yacht races both in Greece and Internationally. Languages: English, Greek Previous Yachts: S/Y Meliti, S/Y Afroessa, M/Y Mary Mia, M/Y Odyssey CHIEF ENGINEER Stavros was born in Greece and has been an engineer in the yachting industry for the past twenty two years. Sailing Greece and the Mediterranean, he has gained a thorough experience on charters but also when boats were for private use. He has lived for several months in Italy and a few years in Finland while overseeing the building of boats but also during refit. Having worked in the largest yacht ever built by Nautor and some of the most admirable sailing yachts in international waters, he has gained impressive insights and experience. Her key skills include silver service, bar & cocktail mixology, flowers arrangement and conducting events. She has gained a lot of practical experience and knowledge since she was working in various food services, hotel & catering businesses while studying. She got her degrees in journalism and hotel & tourism management. She is a very organised and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, responsibility and discipline. Nikoleta has been in the yachting industry for almost six years and she has mastered housekeeping and service but also worked as the cook for both the guests and the crew. Great team player with excellent interpersonal skills. She will keep all of the guests satisfied with her services whilst keeping her discretion. Possitive attitude and situation awareness can solve problems before they even appear,well trained crew added, we have the recipe for a successful charter. BOSUN Emmanouil Nomikos has thirty years experience on the sea since he acquired his diploma for sailing. He further grew his experience by being an instructor on water sports for several years, on speed boats but also he has received solid training through seminars in regards to safety on sea. Emmanouil has been working on yachts for the past seven years and is excellent when working under pressure and with high expectations. An individual with sharp adaptation, organisational and communication skills who is able to support the team in every critical situation. VELA is a brand new 50m custom-built Phinisi yacht launched in August 2022. Distinctive and elegant, she combines traditional Indonesian aesthetics with modern style. The yacht was conceived for modern day adventurers and experiential travelers eager to explore the most remote corners of the Indonesian archipelago. Each charter is fully personalized to accommodate the preferences of our guests. From scuba diving with manta rays and hiking among Komodo dragons to sheer relaxation on a secluded beach.

DESTINATIONS

VELA  is available for charter year-round in Indonesia. There are three distinct regions where she sails following fair winds: West New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean, Lesser Sunda in the Indian Ocean, and Moluccas in between the two mother oceans. Winter 2022/2023: Available from November to April in West Papua Marine Parks, Indonesia Itineraries on demand including Abun, Ayau Asia, Dampier Strait, Fam, Kaimana, Kawe, Misool, Sabuda Tartaruga and Raja Ampat Islands Summer 2023: Available from April to October in Lesser Sunda Marine Parks, Indonesia Itineraries on demand including Alor Pantar, Komodo, Samota, Sape Strait and Solor VELA sails into Moluccas to reposition in between seasons and has designated itineraries on demand (April and Octobre).

ACCOMMODATION & DECK AREAS

Offering her guests 6 luxurious cabins with capacity for 14 guests, VELA  is perfectly suited for families and groups of friends. She is one of the very few phinisis with two master cabins above deck, including a very spacious Owner's Suite on the Bridge Deck, with a private terrace, and a large Master Cabin on the Main Deck.

Each other suite is tastefully appointed with European fabrics by Hermès and Dedar and furnished with locally produced custom teak furniture sourced from sustainable forestry. En-suite bathrooms are cladded with handmade terracotta produced in Ubud, meticulously selected marble, and equipped with Philippe Starck-designed fittings.  VELA 's guests may sip a cocktail in the spacious lounge complete with a bar and wine cellar, surrounded by unobstructed views, meditate on the serene yoga deck, enjoy a massage in the comfort of their own room, and dine in one of our dedicated indoor and outdoor dining areas. In addition, guests will also enjoy a fully equipped outdoor gym located on the main deck.

PERFORMANCE

VELA , like most Phinisis, offers her guests a relaxed navigation to be able to enjoy the stunning landscapes of Indonesia while sailing from one island to another.

For entertainment onboard, VELA is equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, a yoga center, a fully equipped gym and a video projector and screen for movies under the stars.

TOYS & TENDER

Guests can make the most of the crystalline waters with water toys such as water-skiing and wakeboarding, jet-skiing, kayaking, surfing and stand-up paddle boarding. Whether our guests wish to surf secluded breaks or bask in the sunset while kayaking in a sheltered lagoon, VELA is equipped with state of the art water sports gear for all occasions.

VELA ’s diving facilities are designed to cater to divers of all levels. The yacht's qualified dive instructors are trained to help beginners achieve their PADI certification onboard and a nitrox compressor allows experienced divers to make the most of each dive and shorten surface intervals.
