MS Panorama 2 yacht Review

Review of ms panorama 2 yacht.

The 2004-built MS Panorama II cruise ship is a superyacht owned by the Greek travel brand company Variety Cruises ( fleet ). The vessel (IMO number 9325453) is also operated under charter by Lindblad Expeditions and Noble Caledonia (UK). The boat was completely drydock renovated  in 2012.

The vessel (IMO number 9325453) is currently Greece- flagged (MMSI 240201000) and registered in Piraeus/Athens .

Panorama 2 and its sistership Panorama I are among the largest Greece-based superyachts available for private charter.

MS Panorama 2 yacht cruise ship

This 50-passenger ship Panorama 2 is perfect for corporate events, incentive meetings, family celebrations or other private charters. It has LOA length 50 m and max passenger capacity 50 (accommodated in 25 double cabins).

In 2022-2023 (November 23rd thru January 6th) the yacht Panorama II was transported from Europe ( Genoa ) to French Polynesia ( Papeete ) by DYT Yacht Transport (1987-founded company, fka DOCKWISE YACHT TRANSPORT) via its heavy lift vessel Yacht Express (IMO 9346029). The cruise yacht was loaded onto Yacht Express and after the arrival in Papeete started Variety Cruises' season in French Polynesia’s Society Islands on January 13th.

Decks and Cabins

MV Panorama 2 staterooms on decks Upper and Main have windows, while Lower deck cabins are with portholes. All staterooms (ranging in size 100-170 ft2 / 9-16 m2) are handsomely designed and finished with warm fabrics and lustrous wood trims. The fully equipped bathrooms are all finished with marble. All accommodations are air-conditioned and fitted with a telephone (for internal use), smart HDTV, central music, hairdryers, mini-fridge, safe boxes and PA-public address system.

The boat has 3 passenger decks , all of which are with cabins.

Shipboard facilities and amenities

The indoor Bar Restaurant is on Main Deck, but weather permitting, all meals are served alfresco. The dining room can accommodate all travelers and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Both the Library and the Restaurant can be turned into meeting rooms being fitted with audio-visual equipment.

The aft Sun Deck is equipped with chairs and loungers. There is also a swimming platform for exciting dips in aquamarine waters (when anchorage and weather permit). Water sports equipment like snorkeling gear and kayaks is available per request. Indoor spaces consist of a lounge with a library, large smart HDTV, comfortable sofas.

Wi-Fi is available at an additional cost.

Itineraries

MV Panorama II schedule calendar includes Cuba cruises. From December 2016 through March 2017, the Panorama II yacht was chartered to Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic for sailings to the exotic country.

In mid-July 2020, the small-ship company Variety Cruises introduced its all-year-round French Polynesia program starting in 2021 with two island-hopping itineraries in Society Islands and Tuamotus .

Leaving roundtrip from homeport Papeete Tahiti , the yacht Panorama II cruises to popular Pacific atolls and islands and allows touristst to visit pristine beaches, crystal clear lagoons, scenic mountains and sacred temples.

  • "Tahiti and the Pearls of French Polynesia" is a 7-night itinerary visiting the Society Islands Bora Bora , Huahine and Moorea .
  • "Tahiti, Society and Tuamotus" is a 10-night itinerary visiting Makatea , Tetiaroa, Tikehau and Rangiroa .

Panorama 2's inaugural season was initially scheduled for December 2020 thru November 2022, but due to the Coronavirus crisis was postponed/rescheduled for May 2022 thru December 2023.

Variety's itinerary programs offer in most visited islands optional shore excursions, many of which are themed on French Polynesia's culture and history, marine life and unique sea vacation experiences - straight from the yacht's Marina (aft-located swimming platform).

Panorama II

Imagine 173 feet of comfort, sleek beauty, and safety classified by the latest International “Safety of Life at Sea” (SOLAS) standards. Imagine your floating home on board the sleek, classic design Mega Yacht as she spreads her white sails through the seas under the name PANORAMA, waving her Greek flag through the wind.

Discover the world by sea at 11 knots per hour, in her un-rushed pace, one island or seashore at a time on board the ultimate 3 masted motor sailer cruiser. Panorama loves to seduce her select 49 guests with her classic lines and wood paneled lounges redefining what yachting was meant to be. A spacious lounge with ample space, dining areas decorated with warm colors, rich library and two decks for sunbathing, shaded areas and outdoor bar and loungers are just some of the elements that define her essence.

360° views of unobstructed ocean are your eyes’ canvas painted with ocean blue and deep green mountains. Embrace freedom as the Panorama sets her white sails seduced by the clear winds of the sea. Mingle with likeminded travelers in our public areas, enjoy a moment to yourself in our ample deck space, or retreat to one of our 25 ocean view cabin-sanctuaries all offering windows or portholes connecting you with mother nature’s wonders.

panorama ii yacht

During the day, life on board the Panorama centers around the outdoor areas: the two bars and the Sun Deck with a sitting area to relax and enjoy unobstructed views, bask under the sun, read a good book or just gaze at the scenery. In the evening relax in one of the ship’s two lounges or the mini library and have a drink while you listen to the piano music or watch a nightly film. The swimming platform on the Panorama’s stern enables swimming in the sea at secluded bays and beautiful uninhabited islands when weather and anchorage conditions permit. Meet the officers and captain to learn about the Panorama’s navigation aboard the open bridge. Wi-Fi is available at an extra cost.

Embark the Panorama II in Papeete Port between 2:30pm and 4:00pm. After a welcome briefing and safety drill, we will set sail for Bora Bora. Overnight at sea.

Early morning arrival in Bora Bora, possibly the most photographed place on earth. Our ship sails into Bora Bora lagoon with Mount Otemanu rising proudly at the center. Over the following two days, we will have a variety of optional activities to choose from, such as: a) A Bora Bora Cultural Tour by 4x4; b) An excursion to snorkel with sting rays and sharks and explore the lagoon; c) The Bora Bora tour by "Le Truck" and more. Overnight at anchor.

Today, we continue our Bora Bora optional activities. After lunch, we cruise the Bora Bora lagoon and sail to Huahine, arriving late in the evening. Overnight at anchor inside the lagoon.

Huahine, once home to Tahitian royalty, is considered the cradle of Polynesian culture. The two islands maintain the largest concentration of ancient marae (temples) in French Polynesia, some of which are believed to date back to around 700 AD. Huahine is a colossal tropical jungle burgeoning with coconut plantations, vanilla orchids, banana groves, breadfruit trees and watermelon fields. Our optional halfday tour takes us by 4x4 vehicle around the island to visit the small villages of Fare and Maeva, an archaeological site, and a vanilla plantation. There will also be an opportunity to see and feed the sacred blue-eyed eels of Faie Bay. Overnight at anchor.

We leave Huahine early this morning and sail to the island of Taha'a, which shares a magnificent lagoon with Raiatea Island. The fertile island is covered with banana, watermelon and coconut groves. The island also acts as a vast natural greenhouse for the treasured Tahitian vanilla orchid. Our optional half-day excursion will allow us to explore the beautiful interior of the island by 4x4 vehicle. Taste the local fruit and admire breathtaking views of the magnificent turquoise waters of Ha'amene Bay. This excursion also includes a visit to a pearl farm and a traditional vanilla plantation. In the afternoon, we will have plenty of time for swimming and snorkeling from a “motu”, or reef islet. Overnight at anchor.

We sail across the lagoon to reach nearby Raiatea, which translates to “faraway heaven” and “sky with soft light”. Originally known as Havai’i, Raiatea is considered the homeland of the ancient Polynesians. Our morning optional excursion will introduce you to the highlights of Raiatea. Meet your guide for an informative & intimate tour by minibus. Enjoy a panoramic drive through the main town of Uturoa -- the cultural and administrative center of Raiatea. Shortly after leaving town, you will see Mount Temehani - - endemic home to the Tiare Apetahi. Our highlight stop is at the main ancient Marae (open-air temple) of Taputapuatea, recently became a UNΕSCO protected site – your guide will cover the origins & history of this famous land mark. Here, we will learn about its Polynesian origins and historical relevance. Optional afternoon tour includes an exploration by kayak of the Faaroa River, French Polynesia's only navigable river, with an expert guide leading the way through Raiatea's verdant interior. Late in the evening we sail to Mo'orea. Overnight at sea.

This morning, we reach Mo'orea, believed to be the inspiration for the mythical Bali Hai from James Michener's Tales of the South Pacific. Eight gargantuan mountain peaks rise from its magnificent lagoon, creating a distinctive silhouette visible from the western coast of Tahiti. Morning and afternoon optional half day excursions; a/ a Snorkeling and ray tour b/ a Nature & Culture Tour taking you to admire magnificent views in the interior of the island. Tonight we will enjoy our Farewell Dinner. Overnight at anchor. Tonight, we will enjoy our Farewell Dinner. Overnight at anchor.

The crew was terrific.  As was small group, there was much interaction with crew.  Not so stiff and proper that they weren't approachable. We saw many monkeys, so of course that was fun.  The passengers were all pleasant and seasoned travelers.

Accommodations Review

Our room was comfortable and well equipped.

Meals Review

First you must understand I eat very plainly, so not a good judge.  All was presented beautifully - great desserts and the fruit was great. .

Crew & Guides Review

I couldn't imagine that tour without Elliott.  He was pleasant, knowledgeable and had a great amount of patience.  I don't think he ever stopped and was always so prepared.  He kind of made the trip.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Everything that was included with tour was right on time.

Traveler Advice

Travelers should really love bird watching and botanical foliage, and not be in a hurry.  Take a great, but small zoom camera.

20 interesting places in Moscow & Moscow Region you can reach with the capital's newest train system

panorama ii yacht

‘Podmoskovnaya’ historical station.

There are dozens of woodland parks and interesting museums on the outskirts of Moscow and in the nearest Moscow Region, which are best accessible by rail. ‘Moscow Central Diameters’ is a new system of suburban train services that run at several minute intervals and pass straight through the center of the city. You can pay your fare with a ‘Troika’, the main public transport card and can be topped up at any station; transferring to the metro after is free of charge. The fare within the limits of Moscow in 2023 costs 54 rubles (approx. $0.60); in the suburban zone just outside of Moscow, it costs 71 rubles (approx. $0.78). As of today, four ‘MCD’ lines operate in the city and below are some of the interesting things you can see along the routes.

MCD-1: Odintsovo-Lobnya

Skolkovo Station: Skolkovo Innovation Center

panorama ii yacht

The futuristic architecture of Russia’s answer to ‘Silicon Valley’ is visible right from Skolkovo Station. There’s a building in the shape of a cube, a technopark, a business center in the shape of a truncated pyramid and many other unusual buildings in which scientists work all day on the problems of existence. Fancy taking a closer look? You can book an excursion online.

The park that surrounds ‘Innovation City’ is very large, you can spend your entire day there; if you get tired or the weather lets you down, an abundance of cafes is at your disposal.

Fili Station: Panorama museum ‘Battle of Borodino’

panorama ii yacht

1812 Street leads from the subway station to the museum. Apart from the panorama itself, dedicated to the decisive battle of the Patriotic War of 1812, you can also take a look at Kutuzov’s izba. It’s a reconstructed wooden izba (the original one burned down in 1868), in which the military council of Russian generals made the decision to abandon Moscow.

Lianozovo Station: A promenade with swings

panorama ii yacht

The entrance to the Lianozovo Landscape Reserve, a forest within the city limits, is located not far from the station; right beyond it lies the Lianozovo Promenade. It’s a small park with Art-Nouveau arches and swings under canopies. Of course, there’s enough room for walks!

Novodachnaya Station: Dolgiye Prudy Park

panorama ii yacht

This is a large woodland park with a pond cascade and an observation deck that gave the Moscow Region city of Dolgoprudny its name. The remains of former noble estate Vinogradovo, owned by the ancestors of Russia’s main poet, Alexander Pushkin, are lost in the alleys near the northernmost pond. That was back in the middle of the 17th century.

Vodniki Station: The Moscow Canal and yacht clubs

panorama ii yacht

If you want to learn how to sail or just love to watch yachts, get off at Vodniki Station. Apart from numerous yacht clubs, there are themed restaurants and hotels, as well as a promenade with a view of a bustling life. The other exit from the station will lead you to Yusupovsky Park with an amphitheater and to Mysovo Estate, which offers a view of Kotovsky Bay.

MCD-2: Podolsk-Nakhabino

Krasny Baltiyets Station: ‘Podmoskovnaya’ locomotive depot

panorama ii yacht

There’s a historical locomotive depot, one of the oldest in Moscow, near the modern station. Podmoskovnaya Station itself was opened in 1901. Its entire architecture is done in the Art-Nouveau style, popular at the time. It’s not just a depot, but also a water tower, a platform with an elegant roof and the station head’s residence, with a restored interior of the time. Today, this is also a museum (open Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00) and a repair facility for operating locomotives.

Dmitrovskaya Station: Design factory

panorama ii yacht

Many historical industrial buildings that remain in Moscow were remade for art spaces and offices. One of the first was ‘Flacon’ in 2009. The old 19th-century perfume factory turned into a center for modern art. You can find showrooms, master-classes, performances, co-working spaces, as well as conceptual clusters. In general, it’s a dream for every trendsetter (read more about other former Moscow factories here).

Kuryanovo Station: Kuryanovo District

panorama ii yacht

When you get off at this station, you’ll see a Moscow stuck in the middle of the 20th century. This district lies far away from the subway and highways and it kept its initial 1950s layout when it was built as Stalin’s aerator village.

The central part of the district is a square with a Palace of Culture and a Lenin monument. Its streets are symmetrical, with old, two-story houses with front gardens lining them.

Tsaritsyno Station: Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve

panorama ii yacht

This is one of the largest and most beautiful parks of Moscow! A palace complex, flower greenhouses, giant green areas, a light-and-music fountain and a multitude of footpaths for walks attract tourists from all across the country. The residence itself was built for Catherine the Great, but she didn’t manage to use it; the park around the palace was beloved by Muscovites back in the 19th century, so it’s definitely worth your time. Don’t forget to take some nuts along for the curious local squirrels! By the way, apart from the reserve, you can take a walk to the Lower Tsaritsyno ponds that neighbor the Borisovsky ponds. They are also giant green park zones within Moscow’s limits.

Ostafyevo Station: Ostafyevo Estate

panorama ii yacht

This small museum estate with an adjoining park is a popular place for recreation for the local inhabitants. It was built back at the end of the 18th century and was Moscow Region’s literature center. Poet Vasily Zhukovsky, writer Nikolay Karamzin, poet Konstantin Batyushkov and other artists spent time there. Today, it also hosts literature exhibitions and events.

MCD-3: Ippodrom-Kryukovo

Kratovo Station: Moscow Children’s Railroad

panorama ii yacht

Russia has 25 children’s railroad rides ( we talked about them in detail here ), with one of the oldest of them located near Kratovo Station. It was opened back in 1937 and looks just like a real one, only smaller.

Teenagers work as drivers, train conductors and dispatchers. The line has two stations: ‘Yunost’ and ‘Pionerskaya’, with two intermediate platforms between them – ‘Shkolnaya’ and ‘Detskaya’. Adults can take a ride, as well (by the way, on the children’s railway, anyone older than 10 is considered an adult!).

Ostankino Station: Ostankino TV Tower (and donuts)

panorama ii yacht

You can see the entire Moscow from a height of 337 meters if you ascend to the observation deck of Ostankino Tower. A few floors lower, you can have a snack in a cafe with a rotating floor. In 40 minutes, you’ll make a full turn while sipping some coffee!

If you’re not too thrilled about heights, then, in Ostankino Park, you can try the famous all-Union standard donuts. They have been baked there since the 1950s. Your reference point is the intersection of Novomoskovskaya Street and Ostankinskaya Street… and a long line of hungry people!

Firsanovskaya Station: Serednikovo Estate & a movie town

panorama ii yacht

Poet Mikhail Lermontov often visited this old estate in his youth; the sanatorium, opened here after the 1917 Revolution, was named ‘Mtsyri’ after one of his works. Movies and TV shows were shot in these parts; a whole movie town called Piligrim Porto was built from surviving movie props.

You can get into the estate itself by taking one of the excursions that are available on the weekend. The park, meanwhile, is open every day.

Novopodrezkovo Station: the ‘Lefty’ flea market

panorama ii yacht

One of the oldest flea markets of Moscow is just a five-minute walk away from the station. Initially, it was located on Khitrovka (from 1824) in the middle of the city, but, in 2010, it was moved to the outskirts – significantly gaining in size. Fans of rummaging through vintage chests and clothing always line up to be the first to enter when it opens. However, that is only on weekends, from 7:00 to 20:00.

Levoberezhnaya Station: ‘Eco-bereg’ park

panorama ii yacht

This is a promenade along the Moscow Canal, with enough space for children’s playgrounds, chess game tables, a special rollerdrome zone and a variety of forest footpaths on different levels.
